I’m going to give you five ways that you can use your Fairway woods and get the most out of them when you’re on the golf course let’s take a look at number one and unlock this beauty and the first tip and I’ve spoke about this before and
It’s because I love it and I think it’s a great way if you are struggling with confidence especially when you’re in and around the green and you get a lie like this where the grass is really nice but you maybe just find a bit of a bare
Patch or it’s sat down for some reason and you’re thinking if I get my wedge on there and I try and get it in I know I always Duff it or I end up thinning it if we use it as a putter we’ve got a great big sole on the bottom here and
That initial little bit of Loft that we have it’s just going to give it that little bit of lift out of there and all we need to do is basically just adopt our putting stroke the putter generally with no Loft will sort of drive it into
The ground into a little bit of a bad light and Pops it with Spin and it’s hard to control the distance as where with the three wood the fivewood seven wood whatever it may be you just sort of lift lift it up out of that initial
Trouble and then it gets on its normal Journey like a putter would so simply just grip right down to the bottom of the uh the grip maybe adopt your putting grip and from there just get a bit more upright from your normal putting stance but then just imagine what would it take
For me to put this golf ball down towards the flag and once you’re in ball pretty Central from there it’s such an easy shot and a great one like I say if you’re lacking in confidence just to get the ball rolling towards that flag nice and simple hops out takes a
Little bit of break and you don’t need to be the best striker in the world to start actually delivering shots like that where now I’ve only got three or 4 feet to try and save my poers where if I’m nervous and that wedge gets a little
Bit jerky I’m probably going to be a couple of feet in front of me so just adopt that if you are really struggling especially with course designs like when we’re at home on lynxes there’s many ways to play it you may want to run it around greens we’ve seen Marco do that
When we um played with him at St ANS a great little shot he played so just start to maybe embrace the three-wood or the fairway wood not just solely as a club that you try and full swing so tip number two is what we would maybe expect
We use the fairway wood for and that is off the tea sometimes I would say that this is our fallback Club if your driver is not going to plan you need to be able to use your Fairway Wood to get down onto the Fairway the ninth hole here at
Poola golf resort actually is a great example of this because it is a par five but it’s actually quite a tight Fairway and my driver might not be going to plan I might be leaking it a little bit and that brings the water into play for me
It brings the bunkers into play as where I know if I Peg my Fairway Wood down and I hit a little bit of a squeezy cut with it I know I’m going to lose a little bit of distance compared to my driver but I know the majority of the time I’m able
To control this a lot better than I would do the driver when I’m stood over it being nervous over the shot there’s two things that I want you to be aware of when we are playing these shots though and that’s how we’re going to set
Up to it and what I’m going to try and do in this shot so the two things that I want you to make sure that you’re doing number one you’re te height don’t get it too high up above the ground I’m going to try and hit a squeezy shot here so
What I’ve done is actually peg this pretty low to the ground there almost just think that you can maybe just get the tip of your finger underneath here you don’t want to be able to get all your finger underneath so just make sure it’s low down down to that ground
Secondly just make sure as well that you’ve not got it lined up too much in line with that front foot just have it back maybe a ball as you’re going through and then what I’m going to do like I said I’m going to try and hit this squeezy shot because it’s my
Fairway finding shot I’m not going for my ultimate distance so what I’m actually going to try and do at this point is just almost take a little bit of a divot feel that I just graze the ground and then actually just squeeze it off the top top of the turf I’ve picked
My shot I know it’s going to be a cut so I’ve aimed down the left and allow for a little bit of movement into the Fairway and from there then it just takes me to making a committed golf swing good te height ball position’s good and I’m just
Going to squeeze it off with my cut and there a tiny tiny cut little bit High than I would want but it’s in the Fairway I’m not in the wa water and just look there just that tiny little divot as I’ve gone through so make sure you’ve got that Fairway
Finding shot under control because if your driver is not going into plan this is a great way to fall back on your fairway wood so it’s giveaway time guys we want to hit 300,000 subscribers by the time the Open Championship is played at Royal trun and we need your help and
As a thank you for helping us do this I’m going to be giving away one video Lesson every tip Tuesday so you’ll get the chance to have your swing analyzed by me and then a personal video sent back to help you improve your swing
Couple of things you need to do to be in with the chance of winning this number one you need to be a subscriber to the channel number two I need you to leave me a comment in the comments below and then finally I need you to like and
Share the video with your friends because the comment with the most likes will be the winner of the video analysis with myself so make sure you get commenting subscribing sharing and liking for your chance to win that video analysis with me back to the video so it
Wouldn’t be a how to use your Fairway Wood guide if we didn’t actually use it from the Fairway and the big problem I see that when people are using the Fairway woods they simply think that well it’s a fairway wood and on The Fairway that means I can hit this club
That’s not the case we’ve got to get the green light to actually hit it off the Fairway because if you just come with me here two balls two very different scenarios only a foot apart one where I wouldn’t dream of hitting it it’s just pulled pull up towards the back of a
Divot here and as we see as I put the club down the whole club had pretty much engulfs the golf ball it’s almost sitting on top of it on a nicer L as we sit down to it you can almost see that the ball looks like it’s up on a TEEG so
We’ve got a green light here and this is a get something with a bit of Loft on it maybe an iron to actually get it out of there so firstly just be aware of the lie that you are on The Fairway because that dictates whether you can actually
Use this the LIE is the key to actually getting a good Fairway same when we get in the roof if it’s sat down don’t use it if it’s popped up on a nice bouncy little bit of roof get going it’s time to do it other thing I want you to be
Aware of we want to try and use the sole of this club there’s a lot of weight down at the bottom here and there’s a nice Sole for us to actually brush on the ground a lot of my lessons when we think of hitting Fairway Woods they’re
Almost trying to lift the golf ball up off the turf and almost have no interaction with the ground that’s not going to lead to good strikes just try and imagine that you’re going to take a tiny tiny little diver every time that you play your fairway wood so as long as
You’ve got the green light to hit it that’s the first thing when we get in now what we don’t want to be doing is getting too angled as if we’re trying to hit a driver we want to get more into our ironik setup with a tiny bit of
Spine tilt and have the ball a little bit more up our stance but from there the big key that I’m going to do and what you’ll see a lot of tall players doing before they even hit a fairway wood is actually have a practice swing where they try and just cut the
Grass like that so each time cut the grass get into it and when you’re over this golf ball now you know you’ve got the green light to hit it be confident and in your mind all you want to do is take that golf ball and you
Want to cut a little bit of the grass oh nice there popped it up the tiny bit of grass and I’m way there so think about that are you safe to use it and get cutting the grass it all needs cutting for tip number four you join me
In a place where I would imagine a lot of golfers have found themselves and that is in amongst the trees in the trouble whatever it may be and this is where a fairway wood can come in handy depending on how the LIE is and depending on what the canopy of the tree
Is here we see that it’s really low I have got a gap but I’ve got a bit of distance to cover as well and this is where the Fairway W can come in cuz it’s going to lift the ball up from this bad lie it’s going to get enough lift as
Well to get over the initial bit of rof but it’s not going to get up into the trees so many times I see people hearing oh we’ll just chip it out and they end up getting a lob wedge and just whacking it straight up into the canopy of the
Tree as where now I’ve got a three-wood for me here I’ve got quite a tight Gap but I can actually go about 90 to 100 yards so a bit like our putting stance from tip number one I’m going to adopt a smaller stance and I’m just going to
Make a small little chipping swing and what this will do is allow me to get maybe 5 6 feet in the air initially but it’ll carry about 20 30 yards and then it’ll run out to that desired distance what it’s not going to do is pop it
Straight up into my canopy so when you do this again adopter grip that’s down towards the bottom and then get a smaller stance and just see that you make a sort of rocking like motion just to get that strike and just to ensure a bit of list and a bit of distance you
Don’t have to make a full swing it’s just a little chip and a little bump forwards to get out of these sticky situations there we go nice and easy bounding off down the Fairway and it didn’t take anything really just to get that going so make sure if you are in
Trouble you can really utilize this to actually get you back into play and get back on the straight and narrow and this is my fifth and final tip for your fairway wood and this can be used throughout the golf course now little caveat to this it does take a bit of
Skill it takes practice to do this one but if you start to get used to it it is a handy handy shot to progress with and actually to be fair a lot of you have got it in the bag now because it doesn’t have loads of Loft on it you Fairway
Would it’s a little bit easier to shape the golf ball so when I’ve got my golf ball here and I’m actually on the 10th hole at perer par five I want to have a go at it but I’ve actually got a tree directly in front of me I’ve got loads
Of Landing this way I’ve got loads of land that way I can get some shape on this one I’m only 220 now I would normally maybe hit four iron five iron but I don’t think I can get my four or five iron up over the tree quick enough
And if I’m trying to turn it I’ve got to go too far out in one direction to bring it back so I won’t actually get up towards the green so like I say it requires some scale and maybe it’s one that you have a little bit of fun with
On the golf course I like to try and see that I’ve got the slice and a lot of of us have already got the slice in us so what I do for this one I pick a Target my green now actually is directly in line with the tree but I’m actually
Going to aim about 50 yard left here which is somewhere down this line so what I’m now going to do is just lay my club face towards it and then I’m just going to open it ever so slightly but what I’m going to do as well is get my
Body pointing really far left and as I go through again I’m going to grip down on this one and then what I’m going to feel like is that I’m really chopping down and across it because I want to get a ball first Contact I want to get a bit
Of a steep strike and I want to see that I sort of trap it and get some curve on it so I’m sort of getting this low squirty sort of shot from it if I was playing the draw one I would maybe be a little bit different in that I would try
And sweep it and let my hands rotate through the shop and get the face closing but for me like I say I want that cuty one so if you are good at it and you think that you could utilize your slice if you’re at a position where
You think well my three-wood let’s call it goes 180 and 60 but I need to get some bend on it this is a great way to actually use it so for me let’s get aimed let’s get this curve in and let’s see if I can get it somewhere up near
That green with my nice little choppy cut swing oh and that is sasing that is sasing get the green ah go in if you come here I’ve literally just hit the best shot of my life I think we won’t be able to see it on the camera
Here if we maybe Zoom just run by the flag and that like I say requires a bit of skill but it’s a great fun shot to have in your locker if you’ve got it guys five uses for your Fairway would hit that like button if you’re going to
Use those as well subscribe it’s free to do I want to get you better at the game we’ll see you in another lesson soon

Well done matt 👏 😊
I like to use my fairway woods as head cover holders. They're perfect in that role. 😂
Think a very high percentage of golfers use there 3 wood off the tee because driver can be a disaster for alot of people, hope this helps others like it did me 😁
would love some lessons
Great Tips for Tuesday. Thanks so much for thinking of the average golfer that wants to get better and providing some instructional content instead of nothing but the perils of "wannabe" pro golfer.

Great video Matt, but I think I need your skills 😊
Greatvtips! Would these tips apply to a hybrid as well?
If you want to go viral, analyze my swing, and post your commentary of it. At first you will laugh and then cringe.
Great tips, as usual!
Love my hybrid..could almost play a full round with it
Practiced today … Great thank you
Damn – I'd love a personalised lesson – too bad I don't have enough friends to like my comment. Thanks for the tips Matt!
Very similar to an old Rick or Peter video talking about hybrids. Love seeing a video about fairways. I feel like they don't get their day in the sun anymore since hybrids come in every size.
Lovely Matt
Great tips Matt. Thanks!!
With tip 4 in the trees, I normally hit a trunk or branch while trying to come out!
Excellent video. Helpful for me as I am nervous near green
Gave up on my driver a long time ago! 3 wood goes 20-30 yards shorter but avoids trouble!
I love that last shot. I really enjoy practicing things like that on the course. Makes me feel talented 🙂
Tip number 1 would be really useful for your pal Rick Shiels 😂
Nice tips again matt thank you
All all these tips are great. Problem is I’m just not consistent enough for them to always make a difference. Case in point…. There’s this one dog leg Wright that plays from an elevated tee at the course I usually play. Hitting the driver can get you in trouble on this hole. You can actually drive through the fairway and end up with a ferry awkward lie on the side of a hill. You can easily hit it out of bounds on the right. At the same time you can just have a solid five iron keep it low. It’ll catch that heel as it goes down in a roll down and give you a pretty decent lie about 110 yards from the hole. I’ll set up and the ball or hit it fat. I lack consistency..
I get the biggest thrill when i hit my 3 wood clean and reach a green in reg on a par 5
Swazzid? 😂. Good shot 👌
Day/video 34 I'm asking again can I have your ER5
No. 1 is not for the ‘nervous’ playa, it is actually for the thinking playa instead. Around the green one doesn’t always need reach for a wedge. I use a 7 hybrid now for those shots. 👍🏼🏌🏻♂️
Great tips, it all makes sense. Now just go and do it. Thanks Matt.
“a lot of us have already got a slice in us”. 🤣🤣🤣👍🏼
I would need it a lot, but getting those likes is a challenge:) So, please… with sugar on top!
sux to be me ….i have no friends or family to share this exceptional video lesson with or to share anything with …oh well as always i appreciate the content and wish you nothing but success and happiness for all your days 🙂
Great video Matt!
Trying to hit a straight ball is futility. Last year I just aimed left edge fairway and 10y left of target and had great scores. Could be my clubs are flat lie, but it works
My fear is you would look at my swing and tell me to take up pickleball.
Can you do a review if able on the Cleveland Hywood please
