THIS IS NOT WHERE DETROIT TENDS TO PLAY OUT OF.

BUT THEY GOT NO CHOICE IN THIS PLACE.

THEY GOT TO OPERATE. >> Kevin: AND NO AMON-RA ST.

BROWN. OVER THE MIDDLE.

HE CAUGHT IT! HOW ON EARTH DID HE CATCH THAT?

HE’S GOT A FIRST DOWN. ARE YOU SERIOUS? >> Greg: I MEAN, COBY BRYANT HAS TO BE LIKE WHAT ELSE DO I HAVE

TO DO? NUMBER EIGHT THINKS HE’S JUMPING

THIS. AND THE BIG BODY OF LaPORTA, NOT ONLY TO SECURE THE CATCH, BUT THEN TO HAVE THE UNDERSTANDING

TO KEEP HIS BALANCE AND PICK UP THE REMAINING YARDS FOR A FIRST DOWN. I MEAN, THAT IS A CRITICAL,

CRITICAL CATCH THERE BY THE YOUNG ROOKIE. AND YOU CAN SEE WHY DAN CAMPBELL IS SO HIGH ON THE SECOND ROUNDER

LIONS, YOU LIKE TO GET THE TOUCHDOWN FIRST AND FIND YOURSELF DOWN THREE. >> Kevin: HERE’S GOFF LOOKING TO

THROW OVER THE MIDDLE. HE BREAKS FREE.

LaPORTA INSIDE THE 10. SAM LaPORTA, WHAT A DRIVE. ANOTHER BIG CATCH AND IT’S FIRST AND GOAL FOR THE LIONS.

AND GOAL FOR THE LIONS. >> Greg: I TELL YOU WHAT, THIS KID IS IMPRESSIVE. JULIAN LOVE THINKS HE WILL RUN A

GO BALL. THE SECOND TIME WHERE HE’S MADE A CONTESTED CATCH AND RUN THROUGH CONTACT AND BE ABLE TO

PICK UP ADDITIONAL YARDAGE. LaPORTA COMING OFF THE FIELD.

CARTED OFF. D

DAN SKIPPER IS IN THE GAME. OPEN TO LAPORTA, HE’S GOT IT, HIS FIRST ENVNFL TOUCHDOWN!

GET THAT FOOTBALL FOR THE MANTEL!

>> Mark: HE COMES THE OPPOSITE WAY, WIDE OPEN. AL: THIRD DOWN AND 5-4 DETROIT. PACKERS ON TOP 3-0 TAKING

ADVANTAGE OF THE INTERCEPTION. GOFF RETREATS AND FIRE IS OVER THE MIDDLE. CAUGHT ON THE RUN.

INSIDE THE 30! AND THAT IS SAM LAPORTA. A GREAT-LOOKING ROOKIE TIGHT END OUT OF IOWA WHERE THEY GROW

OUT OF IOWA WHERE THEY GROW THEM.

KIRK: YOU CAN GO MAN TO MAN BECAUSE OF THE MOTION.

GOFF KNOWS WHO HE WANTS TO GO TO RIGHT AWAY. SECOND YEAR, THIS BEN JOHNSON OFFENSE ESPECIALLY ON THIRD DOWN

— HE HAS A GOOD IDEA OF WHERE HE WANTS TO GO WITH THE

FOOTBALL. NOT BAD COVERAGE BY DOUGLAS. ROOKIE TIGHT END HAD THE BIG PLAY LAST WEEK AND GETS THE

FIRST DOWN. AL: 35 YARDS.

LOT OF HIS LIVING THERE. AL: WIDE.

AVOIDS THAT SACK. MYERS REACHING UP.

CALLING IT IN. OH MAN.

WALKER COVERS. GOFF DOES THE ESCAPE JOB.

FIRST OUT. KIRK: GOFF IS NOT A DUAL THREAT GUY BUT HE’S ATHLETIC ENOUGH TO GET AWAY FROM THIS AND KEEP HIS

EYES DOWNFIELD. THE TIGHT END WORKS TO FIND THAT

OPENING. GOOD JOB OF HELPING THE

QUARTERBACK. WHERE CAN I GET OPEN?

GETS AWAY FROM THE LINEBACKER WALKER.

THEY HAVE BEEN A GOOD FIRST QUARTER SCORING TEAM. AND TOUCHDOWN, SAM LaPORTA FROM JARED GOFF!

>> Daryl: ONE OF THE THINGS HAVE YOU TO DO IS CONTAIN BRIAN BURNS AND THAT IS JOSH REYNOLDS, A WIDE RECEIVER COMING DOWN AND

PUSHING HIM AND WASHING HIM PAST THE POCKET. THAT ALSO MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR SAM FRANKLIN TO GET IN COVERAGE

THROWING LANE. >> Chris: JACOBS HAS PLAYED

WELL. EMMANUEL MOSELEY GOT PLAYING TIME BEFORE BEING INJURED. BACK TO JARED GOFF AND WIDE OPEN

AND HE TAKES IT INTO THE ZONE. THAT IS A LIONS TOUCHDOWN! A LITTLE TRICK BY BUT TWO FOR SAM LaPORTA TODAY!

INTERCEPTION. THREE TAKEAWAYS TODAY.

>> Daryl: VERY SIMILAR TO JOSH REYNOLDS.

SELL IT. SELL IT.

TAKE YOUR TIME. BE PATIENT.

NOW GO! AND YOU ARE ON THE TOP OF JEREMY

CHINN. >> Chris: JARED GOFF, A THREE

TOUCHDOWN GAME. HE IS THROWING LIKE A RICH MAN’S

MATT RYAN. >> Daryl: ONE OF THOSE GROWING HOW MANY TIMES YOU SEE RECEIVERS RUN THROUGH ZONES AND RUN

THEMSELVES INTO COVERAGE? PART OF THAT IS LaPORTA AND PART IS REALLY GOOD COACHING BY BEN JOHNSON.

>> Joe: THEY PUT TWO SECONDS BACK ON THE CLOCK. THERE HE IS, THE ROOKIE, LaPORTA, AND THE LIONS HAVE

22-YEAR-OLD SECOND-ROUND PICK FROM IOWA.

WE’RE GETTING EVIDENCE AS TO WHY HERE TONIGHT. >> Troy: YOU’LL SEE HIS ROUTE. WATCH JARED GOFF WHEN HE TURNS

THIS LOOSE. HE STARTS TO THROW IT AND HE’S

JAMES RIGHT HERE. JIM: IT’S THIRD AND 2.

THERE IT IS. LAPORTA WITH A BIG GAIN IN THE

SECONDARY. TONY: AND THIS IS A BIGTIME

THROW-CATCH. YOU THINK IT’S GOING TO BE MAN-TO-MAN ON A THIRD AND 2 AND THE CHARGERS TRY AND SNEAK IN A

ZONE WHICH I THOUGHT WASN’T A BAD CALL FOR ALL THE CROSSERS BUT JARED GOFF, THE VETERAN THAT HE IS NOW, SEES IT QUICKLY

THEY’RE GOING FOR IT ON FOURTH AND 2.

GUTSY CALL. THE PASS IS CAUGHT.

CAUGHT BY LAPORTA FOR THE FIRST DOWN. AND NOW THEY’LL BE ABLE TO SET UP AND USE THIS CLOCK AS THE

CHARGERS HAVE ONLY ONE TIME-OUT TO SET UP A FIELD GOAL AT THE END. TONY: A JOB BY LAPORTA TO FIND

THE SOFT SPOT AND GOFF STAYING POISED AND FINDING THE ONE LITTLE AREA TO MOVE THE CHAINS. NOW YOU CAN TAKE IT DOWN AND NOT

HAVE TO PUT YOUR DEFENSE BACK OUT THERE.

THE YEAR. A FAKE TO MONTGOMERY.

GOFF COMES RIGHT BACK THE OTHER WAY.

LaPORTA WITH A THREE-POINT LEAD, 29 SECONDS TO GO. 29 SECONDS TO GO. >>> Mark: ALL OF THE ACTION WILL

COME THIS WAY, THE HIGH BEHIND IT. WATCH HIM BLOCK IT, AND THEN NOBODY PICKING UP LaPORTA, THEY

CALL THAT A HIDE, HIDE BEHIND EVERYBODY TO GET YOURSELF TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE. REALLY WELL DESIGNED TWO-POINT

THIS LIONS OFFENSE. >> Kevin: THEY’VE GOT TWO TIGHT

END JUMBO FORMATION. GOFF HAS ALL DAY.

THERE’S A CATCH BY LaPORTA, INSIDE THE 10. AND THE LIONS ON THE MOVE. IT WILL BE FIRST AND GOAL OF A

>> Greg: THIS IS THE LIONS OFFENSE, THIS IS HOW THEY WANT TO OPERATE. EARLY DOWN PLAY ACTION PASS, LET

THE RECEIVER CLEAR THE ZONE AND, I’LL TELL YOU, SAM LaPORTA, THE LAST CROP OF YOUNG TIGHT ENDS THAT HAVE COME INTO THE LEAGUE, I’M NOT SURE IF THERE’S BEEN A MORE WELL-ROUNDED, WELL-PREPARED

DOWN 7-0, AND IT’S SECOND AND GOAL.

GOFF, OVER THE MIDDLE. FIRES.

IT’S CAUGHT FOR THE TOUCHDOWN, SAM LaPORTA. >> Greg: USUALLY WHEN TEAMS TRY THREE TIGHT ENDS, THERE’S

ANOTHER OFF THE SCREEN TO YOUR RIGHT.

EVERYONE IS THINKING BRING IN BIG BODIES, PERSONNEL. WHAT DO THEY DO? THEY SPREAD THEM OUT AND THROW

IT SHORT TO SAM LaPORTA. WE JUST TALKED ABOUT HIS ROUTE RUNNING, HIS ABILITY IN ZONE. HE’S A GOOD TIGHT END THAT’S

THE ONSIDE KICK MEAN ANYTHING. GOING TO GO QUICK.

GOFF OVER THE MIDDLE. FIRES.

AND THE TWO IS GOOD. SO A SEVEN-POINT GAME. HERE COMES IS ONSIDE KICK. >> Greg: NICE LITTLE SIT ROUTE

HERE. JUST TELLING LaPORTA GET ACROSS

THE GOAL LINE, I’M GOING TO STICK IT ON YOU. WELL-TIMED BALLS HAVE COME ALIVE IN THESE NO-HUDDLE SITUATIONS.

YOU JUST HAVE TO WONDER IF IT’S TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE.

PIECES. SECOND AND TEN FROM THE 46.

GOFF, HE’S GOT LaPORTA. THE ROOKIE TIGHT END DOWN TO THE

25. HE ALREADY HAS A TOUCHDOWN AND

29 MORE YARDS HERE. >> Daryl: FUNDAMENTALS FOR THE HE ALREADY HAS A TOUCHDOWN AND 29 MORE YARDS HERE.

>> Daryl: FUNDAMENTALS FOR THE SAINTS. IT’S JUST TACKLING, RIGHT? YOU HAVE GUYS ALL AROUND THERE,

AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE THAT PLAY AND IT’S YARDS AFTER THE CATCH. IT HAS TO BE DISAPPOINTING FOR DENNIS ALLEN.

COUPLE OF YEARS. THEY HAVE BOTH RUNNING BACKS FOR

THIS FIRST DOWN PLAY. LOOKING TO THROW. WIDEOPEN, LaPORTA! SAM LaPORTA RACING INSIDE THE 15

YARD LINE. 49 YARDS.

BIG PLAY FROM GOFF TO LaPORTA. >> Daryl: HE RUNS THROUGH BIG PLAY FROM GOFF TO LaPORTA. >> Daryl: HE RUNS THROUGH

LINEBACKER LEVEL. LaPORTA AND NEPHI SEWELL WAS SUPPOSED TO RUN WITH HIM. >> Joe: INSIDE THE SAINTS’ 15

ON THIRD AND EIGHT, GOFF DELIVERS, AND IT’S LaPORTA! WHERE THERE’S BEEN A NEED, THERE’S BEEN SAM LaPORTA.

ANOTHER MONSTER DAY FOR THE ROOKIE TIGHT END, AND A FIRST DID YOU KNOW FOR THE LIONS. >> Daryl: A GREAT JOB OUT OF THE

INSIDE OF THAT BUNCH. YOU’VE GOT INSIDE OR OUTSIDE LEVERAGE, SO HE’S GETTING A LITTLE BIT OF HELP FROM THE

SAFETY THAT’S IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD.

JORDAN HOWDEN LETS HIM GET INSIDE.

LAKEVILLE LA IN WAUWAUKEGAN, LA COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL. THEY GET THE SNAP OFF. GOFF INTO A TIGHT WINDOW FOR SAM

LaPORTA. THAT WAS ONE OF HIS BEST OF THE AS WE COMES OFF THIS THING, HE’S GOING TO LEAN IN BEFORE HE GETS

TO THAT WINDOW. WATCH JUST THE THROW, THE CONFIDENCE AND THE ABILITY TO THROW — IN COLLEGE THAT’S

COMPLETELY COVERED. YOU GO AWAY.

FOR JARED GOFF, THERE’S NOTHING COVERED. zone. Goff is off to a terrific start. Ten of 14 101 first and ten Gibbs was in motion outside

It goes Laporta gets by Josey Jewell to the pylon. 18 yard touchdown pass by Goff to his celebrated rookie tight end Sam Laporta. I love the design of this play. Watch out of the

Left. But Denver’s defense all over it, forcing the throw away. Third and goal. It is Goff well poured on. Touchdown. Touchdown Detroit Lions Kevin Goff the rookie Sam Laporta has just

20. Well this same concept three touchdown passes in a row. You clear out the inside guy. The DALLAS DEFENSE PLAYING SOFT. HERE’S ONE FOR LaPORTA AGAIN,

AND A STRONG CATCH TO THE 40, AND THE LIONS ARE IN BUSINESS CAREER BACKING OFF AND GIVING HIM CLEAN LOOKS IS I THINK IN SOME WAYS DOING HIM A FAVOR. HE’S GETTING GOOD PROTECTION,

AND WHEN HE IS PROTECTED, HE CAN BE DEADLY. BECAUSE OF THE QUARTERBACKS, THEY’VE BEEN LEANING ON THE

DEFENSE. MONTGOMERY, EASY TOUCHDOWN FOR

THE LIONS! >> Daryl: I DON’T KNOW IF THIS

OF TIMES YOU WILL DO THIS. WATCH SAM LaPORTA.

THERE’S NO WAY TO THROW IT TO 87.

>> Joe: TENTH TOUCHDOWN OF THE SEASON FOR THE ROOKIE. 82nd CATCH OF THE YEAR, MORE CATCHES THAN ANY ROOKIE TIGHT

END IN NFL HISTORY. LIONS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE >> Mike: SOME? >> Cris: WELL, ENOUGH TO CHANGE

THE SEASON. BUT, YEAH.

>> Mike: LaPORTA LINED UP IN THE BACKFIELD AND THEY SWITCH IT OUT HERE. FOURTH AND A LONG YARD.

TWO FOR THE TOUCHDOWN. GOFF LOOKING TO THROW.

HE THROWS BACK OF THE END ZONE AND LaPORTA!

TOUCHDOWN, DETROIT AGAIN! THEY ARE 3 FOR 3. >> Cris: MICHAEL HOYT DROPS OUT IN COVERAGE MORE THAN ANY OTHER

  1. First! As a niner fan the lions had a great season! Congrats to them and I will fear them next year!

  2. What a rookie. I picked this guy up off the waiver wire in fantasy football after the first 2 weeks as both of the tight ends I had my first 2 weeks stunk it up, lol. Him and some running back I picked up off the waiver wire helped me win the championship in my league, lol.

  3. I think its great to see these young TEs coming into the league & giving the position some much needed flair. Congrats to the Lions fans!! U guys look like u can only get better as a team!! 💯

  4. Wow, imagine the top plays with a ClearClub custom mouthguard – protection and style! 😎

  5. I see a future superstar tight end in Sam LaPorta who had an awesome rookie season with 86 catches for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns. He is very physical and can play on a high level. He is a route runner who catch passes to beat his opponents. He is learning from the best who has played this game before. Soon he is gonna be in the top 10 as the best tight end to play in the league

  6. He proved yesterday that he’s the best TE in the league. We are blessed in Detroit with him and the rest of our rooks.
