Hey guys Eric agoro here with performance Golf and in today’s video I’m going to show you what I think is the most important move in the golf swing and if I could only teach one thing to every golfer for the rest of my life I would teach them what I’m about
To show you in today’s video and we call it the long Arc follow through okay now long Arc follow through means this through impact and into the follow through the best ball Strikers get the club head and their hands as far away from them as possible without their head moving
Forward okay that’s so important I’m going to say that again the best ball Strikers get the club head and their hands as far away from them as possible without their head moving forward now how they do it I’m going to run you through part by part on how you can put
This in your swing and the drills and Fields and how they do it but in order to get the club head as far away from me as possible in the follow through that gives me good ball striking consistency Etc I have to have my arms straight okay
And when I reference my arms being straight the straighter my arms are the farther my hands butt of club and Club are away from me right we can see that now if I bend my arms notice how the butt of the club my hands and the club
Head all get closer and closer to me now why is this an issue well if I take this down into impact let’s see what that looks like how is that for good ball striking not so good right but what if I get to the good spot with the arm straight butt
Of the club pushed away Club head away from me with my head back what if I bring that back down and impact that looks pretty good huh so we’re trying to keep that impact position feel through the golf ball and arm straight is the piece that gets the
Club head down to the ball strike ball first ground second consistent contact so to get the long Arc follow through I must have my arm straight now how do I feel my arm straight well I want to reference my elbows notice as my arms are straight my elbows are very close
Together as my elbows get farther apart what happens to my arms they Bend more the butt of the club gets closer to me the club heads closer to me no good so as I straighten my arms I squeeze my elbows closer together if I bring that back down to here the elbows
Are squeezed together the arms are straight good solid as my elbows separate the arms bend the hands get closer to me the clo head gets farther away from the ground bad okay so arms straight is part number one now some body Mo motions we got to go through but
First things first to learn this gosh if you could learn a long Arc follow through your consistency of ball striking is is going to go through the roof forever piece number one I like to do is let’s just start by squeezing the elbows together through the ball getting
The club head as far away from us as possible and we’ll do this with like a half swing with a you know 98 seven iron here so swing number one I’m going to probably hit this eight iron like you know 120 yards little half swing squeeze the elbows get the arms
Straight and get as far away from me as possible okay that’s about very solidly struck shot probably 120 yards now notice my follow through where are my arm straight or bent straight where’s the butt of the Club close to me or far away far away how about the club head
Very far away now notice as I’m doing this where’s my body at it’s rotated towards the target okay so piece number one in order to have the arm straight to have the long Arc follow through I have to have body rotation and let me show you what I mean and why that’s
Important if I take my normal setup and I don’t rotate my body all this will be the bad I’ll keep my shirt buttons and my belt buckle pointed at the golf ball and I want you to try this with me too so you can feel this keep your body at
The ball and try and have your arms stay straight As long as possible into the follow through I can get about there physically before I can’t go any longer I couldn’t possibly keep my arm straighter and keep swinging if my body’s not turned the only way for me to keep swinging now and
Let the club head go is to do what have the arms fold so if you’ve got that chicken wing elbows apart arms fold odds are not enough body rotation now if I can’t keep my arm straight when my body doesn’t rotate watch what happens when I
Start to turn Okay so start turning your belt buckle and your shirt buttons at the Target watch how long I can keep my arm straight easy for me to do that all the way to here when my body’s turned long Arc follow through arm straight elbows close must have rotation
So as I’m squeezing my elbows together feeling the club head far away from me in my arm straight I’m going to make sure my belt buckle and shirt buttons are pointed out towards the target just a little half swing here still just to get a feel arm straight elbow squeeze body
Turned and there’s another really solidly struck a down probably 140 yards so notice my finish position arm straight body fully turned okay that’s piece number number one now I’m going through these fairly quickly guys you might want to stick there for a while okay and just stick on the rotation in
The arm straight but let’s add some layers as you go so we must rotate to keep the arm straight we also must have extension to keep the arm straight what does that mean when I take my setup position if I go into a follow through where I never have extension that means
My chest stays pointed down towards the ground in this forward bend I have it set up try this and see how long you can keep your arm straight chest down head forward I can keep my arm straight till about right there physically and I can’t go anymore to keep swinging I have to
Have my arms fold up okay just like the rotation but now watch as I start to extend now all of a sudden it’s very easy for me to keep my arm straight into the follow throw very easy extension from the down the line angle is me going like
This so my chest and my rib go from down to up now if I do this and I face towards the target from face on that looks pretty darn normal doesn’t it and I’ll explain how we do that with the third piece in a moment my arms are straight with my elbows
Close my body has turned and I’ve also extended so my feel for this is chest and rib cage up towards the sky okay so we’re going to hit with that the arms are straight with the elbows close the body’s turned I feel like my chest and my rib cage point up towards
The sky and I’ll explain how we still hit the ball from there in a moment arm straight elbows close chest and rib cage up and there’s a very solidly struck shot I got a little aggressive there that’s probably almost a full swing but again notice my finish arms are still
Straight chest rib cage are up body’s fully turned but how in the heck can we do this standing up motion and still hit the golf ball on the ground and that brings us to the third piece and final piece which is side bent okay side Bend
So as I do my follow through and I do the extension and I do the rotation and I’m standing up and down like this I would never hit the ground so what do I need to hit hit the ground I need side Bend what does that mean that means shoulder
Down shoulder down so every good consistent ball Striker and what you want to train in is rotation towards the target extension chest and rib cage up towards the sky and side Bend which is shoulder down and it’s the blending of those motions that give you perfect body
Motions through the hit where it looks really easy to do so now as I’m hitting I’m feeling all of those right I’m feeling the elbows close and the arms straight the chest and Rib CAG is up and the shoulder is down okay shoulder down feels like a little sort of side
Crunch same thing little half swing arms are straight chest and rib cage is up shoulder is down and that is as good as my eight iron can be struck right there so that feels so so good I’m going to do another one those feels when you’re doing that that should look like
When you’re watching it sort of smooth and pretty easy and because I’m blending those motions together rotation extension side Bend chest and shoulder or chest and rib cage up shoulder down as the arms are together I have to have all those to get that long Arc notice again in the follow through
The extension is what keeps my head back if no extension my head doesn’t stay back it goes forward what did we say a long Arc follow through is it’s the ability to get the club head and the hands as far away from you as possible while keeping your head back put me on
There against any really good ball Striker you watch online they’re going to see those same sort of motions this is what you want to train in one more arms are straight elbows are close chest and Rib CAG is up towards the sky shoulders down and I’m going to feel that same
Motion same feels long Arc follow through another very solidly struck shot notice my follow through chest and rib cage are up shoulders still down arms are extended bodies turned now when I teach people this a lot in the beginning they say Eric gosh I’m hitting the ball freaking
Good with that but how do I take that into a full swing and here’s the answer to that right once you get into this position just let your arms fold and re hinge the club back behind your neck okay so practice to hear first and then
When you make a full swing you want to go through that spot and just refold into a finish I’ll show you what that looks like here so same feels you’re going through that spot arm straight chest and rib cage up shoulder down and I’m just going to keep
Letting my arms fold then into a finish so any don’t stay straight forever right I’m straight to here and then I can let them fold up getting through that spot one full one just to show you so nothing changes into a full swing you can use
That drill as like a 3/4 swing but same feels full swing arm straight chest and rib cage up shoulder down and I just took that up into a full swing well struck little draw eight iron so gosh I hope I’m not only allowed to teach one thing forever but if I had to
Make that choice long Arc follow through is the thing Club head hand shaft everything as far away from you as possible with your headb that’s how you’re going to hit it solid but also hit it high and far and consistent day today if you have any questions at all

Great lesson.
One of the best golf videos I’ve ever seen. Thanks for sharing
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Another great visual Eric-Thanks-Russ
My dad has threatened me with taking my iphone away if I watch another Youtube video, except if that video is made by you. thanks. one thing, is this included in one of your performance golf videos that he signed me up for, I have the app! Thanks Eric (Parmigiano.)
I have spent thousands of dollars on golf lessons – just wish I could’ve given the lot to you – (you are simply the best) unfortunately I just don’t live close enough for 1-2-1 lessons
Really, Eric, it is a great video; however, the straight arms concept is not easy to realize. Check, e.g., your full swing at about 11:10 minutes of the video. In case you manage to stop the video (I needed several trials) when your right arm is horizontal and straight after the impact (at the impact, the right arm certainly should not be straight!), then you will easily see that your left arm is already pretty much bent. Nevertheless, congratulation for your excellent teaching!
Love this , i play my wedges this way . Very s&t ❤
You're a great teacher… Do you offer a training program? If so, I'd much appreciate signing up.
Hey Eric, does that apply to hitting a driver as well?
So good!
Awesome explanation and demonstration!
Good stuff!
You cheating on your own channel, Eric? :-). Another great tutorial. I love the way you describe all these valuable tidbits. You are an awesome coach!
Good video! Very helpful.
Perfect advise! Thank you!
Hi Eric; I've taken lessons occasionally over the years & none of the pros I took lessons from ever noticed my chicken wing so I lost a lot of time without improving & this is why. Needless to say, I'm less than pleased. My swing always felt like I was too short after impact but I never saw it on video so I didn't know why. 🤬
