Thunder Down Under

A scrub session but good to see them all out there and none of them breaking down on the track which is always a good s of course truck racing been around for a number of years now it started back in about 8990 I’ve been here at levels for a number of years

Now always been a big supporter of the South kenry Car Club and in the South kenry Car Club obviously being a big supporter of the super trucks and they tend to bring the big crowds in Brendon you can walk down the bank and see people that you not wouldn’t normally

See um during a normal car race weekend they come from all over they certainly do they come from all over the South Island uh our neighbor comes out camps out here for the weekend but he’s got a mate that comes down from the top of the South every year wouldn’t miss the

Trucks get ATA grah and team sitting down there at the South End of the circuit hope you enjoy your weekend of course you stayed out here last night too Brennon yourself in the Caravan up the top end what was the the mood like last night around the pits be

Uh was she flat out people working on the cars or was she pretty relaxed yes I got out here about4 to 7 and there was still plenty of action in the pits people doing those last minute fatling to get their machines ready for the weekend and then um after we’ set up

Camp had a couple of liquid Refreshments chatting to a couple of the competitors good there’s a good VI on in the campsite I was camping next to Chopper Ste son who we’ll see later on in the SS cup and he’s you know getting race fit for the year living on kale and spring

Waterer and running 5Ks every morning he says well it didn’t sound like he was getting race fit this morning he was actually uh the curtains were still drawn when I walked down to the control tower to greet you all this morning but a great atmosphere camping out at levels

Raceway thank you very much to trust our Rey 16th year they have supported this event bringing the super trucks to the central South Island For Your Entertainment without their support and also the support of all the other sponsors and volunteers this would not happen so thank you all for your help

Yes there’s a whole list of them Brendon too long to go through but yes are the main ones trust AI of course we’ll mention a few different ones over the weekend as we just um wait to get all the safety personnel back out on the track for um qualifying for the MX5

Heritage cup yes when we have the super trucks out on the circuit all the marshals all the incident intervention Vehicles do come in to get into a safe spot because if those 5 ton trucks hit you doing 160 km an hour you’re not going to come off the Beast so everyone

Gets moved to a safe area while the trucks are out on the circuit and then when they come back into the pits as they are now we put the ambulance and the incident Vehicles back where they normally sit in a race weekend the Marshalls will go back to their their

Posts the track looking in pristine condition once again Hood’s been flat out on that lawn mobile looks a bit she’s dried off completely we had a lot of rain during the week and thought I thought things might have greened up a bit but she’s very dry off on that grass

And in fact you know what mode grass is like Brendon it’s very slippery so if you do still get out and that stuff it’s going to be very very slippery indeed yeah sometimes when you go off onto it you actually feels like you’re speeding up rather than slowing down um those of

You that live locally will know that the prevailing wind here in South Canary over the summit is on nor West which is very dry wind sucks moisture out of the people and out of the ground we’ve had a few 30° odd days through January and it’s just um devastating The Greenery of

Our crops and pasture yeah as soon as you go back to work Brendon all the good weather comes out you know the three days I went away in the Caravan over the Christmas New Year period just happened to be the three wet days isn’t isn’t

That light yes I had 15 15 nights out at um out at the hut out at the parior Huts there and of those 15 days nine of them were rain so you I know exactly what you mean and now I’m back at work beautiful camping weather what are the

Chances at least we don’t have rain here today of course we’ve had a pretty bad run of um bad weather here at some of our big main events so it’s good that we’ll be at that window Brendon there won’t be too many tents being put up today I would think so no anything

That’s on the banker on the pits as well stri stripped down we’ve had a few uh few of the gazebos were strapped to their race cars overnight to make sure they wouldn’t take off flags are definitely flying proudly in the breeze as we look out of the control tower

Window to the north side of the circuit just if you’re on the bank today make sure of course your sun safe slip slop slap stay stay hydrated enjoy your motor racing so up next to the MX5 Heritage Cup qualifying for them we’re just talking about that Brandon and

They’re pretty much a standard MX5 Road car um with the roofs removed you so they’re pretty much coups but they’ve got the uh the big roll cage on them and that’s the way that you’ve got to run them you can’t run them with the roof and um pretty much you can’t do any

Modifications really to them except the earbox anything outside of the outside of the the um you know the earbox so they run the standard brakes everything’s pretty much standard a lot of these motors have got uh these cars here today are running second head Motors brought from the Wreckers the

Mazus 1.6 BP engine T twin cam be intered to see how they go for times like we were discussing this morning yes so we do welcome the MX5 Heritage cup 2 levels Raceway in the central South Island um these cars very very popular when they were new they really

Revolutionized or reintroduced the open top Roadster to the market earlier on of course you had the little British sports cars MGS triumphs Etc but they had fallen by the wayside but Mazda bought them back very good handling little car as Paul said not too many modifications they must run without

Their roof which at the moment that’s going to be probably quite a good thing they’ll also need to be Suns safe the reckon these a b if they had all the these cars put together for a meeting there’d be 40 of them I reckon there’s

40 of them them built up already and I hear there’s a few more being built up too so um trying to get the series going down here in the south island and pretty much on the lines of the 2K cup class but the one M Class the

MX5 and the problem probably finding a nice first generation MX5 now for the right price is probably getting a bit tricky cuz they’re actually getting a little bit collectible well they reckon there’s one one of these for sale up in the north island somewhere for for $10,000 that’s race ready with the cage

People think oh that’s a bit of money well it is a bit of money but you go try and build a good reliable race car for 10 grand some of these cages here they were they were saying $5,000 for one of the good cages or save $25,000 for a

Fairly basic cage for one of these mx-5s so interesting to see what the times these things do 1.6 L and like I say most of these guys from the North Island there’s a couple from Christ Church car number 69 Benny Yen and Mike harot and car number

81 and Raymond Quinlan also too from Christ Church so there is a few cars down here in the south island but just not many at this stage like you say Brandon they are they are starting to creep up a little bit and you’ll find as race car classes

Start up 2K Cup’s a great example um when the series first started up you could pick a lot of those cars up for around the 2 Grand Mark you try and buy one of them now and it’s like uh you’re just talking 10,000 yeah you try try and

Find a good truno or a Levin or a ingra Integra yeah Rick ‘s got rid of most of those for those people out there that wanted to buy one he’s he got a we supplyer has he well he’s got a wrecking out of them I think the

Um the Reynolds team up from up Nelson way they’ve got quite a few integrals tucked away in the shed up there so these guys have’ only done about five or six laps around here yesterday in their test session that’s all they got and that’s pretty much most

Of the laps these guys have ever done around level so it’ll be interesting they’re still learning that track but they uh one of the guys said it reminded them of a go-kart track he done a fair bit of go counting I think car number 9906 was the guy I was

Talking to Shane hater and um he said levels reminds him of a go-kart track be well suited to a small Nimble light well- handling car so a go-kart track is probably ideal for a Heritage MX5 car and they look pretty cool too looks like something you might find over in

America running in some of those uh those club classes over there they they quite like the roofs off over in America with the big cage as you mentioned very um quite a popular class in the north Ireland also they do run MX5 in Australia yes have seen them racing over there and as

Support races to supercars I think the biggest field they had up in the north island was about 26 so few of them round but we’ve got the first car come across the line to set his fastest lap car number 59 a 69 bie Yen so we’ll get a time on him short L who’s in the black and gold car there Paul that’s very smart looking machine as it gets around the track not too sure what the number was on that one bring when it went through was it triple one is that Dean Dean Evans Dean Evans from from the

Tron got his passport stamped came down to the mainland to rac’s MX5 triple one you did right he’s following the number nine car of Alex called going up the back straight Alex from Fielding okay we have times now so we have a 11 198 for the 69 of Mr

Yan D Evans the triple one car we were talking about 12.3 for his first assault car 9006 is hater doing a 124 and then the number n car we just mentioned a COR doing a 122 but that’s just their first time first stake in the ground for the qualifying session for

The Heritage MX5 Class so they got a 10-minute session so really it’s only about six OD laps to get in and when you’re still learning the track really it’s anyone’s um anyone’s shot of getting that pole position really number 66 guy Brandon all the way from palson North on the wh

MX5 getting ready to start a hot late by the looks Here Comes car number 89 across what can he do 69 is it so Shane hater shot to the top 11 195 so they’re starting to get down to the 19s now some of them so we were

Talking about times earlier on Paul um before we came on air how they’d compared to the SS cup cars so they’re in the ballpark aren’t they for their first assault at the track well they’re still learning the track BR there still a couple of seconds in that I would say we a good

Second um obviously the more laps you do the quicker you get try different lines different Corners no doubt some of them have been watching YouTube and some on boards on screen now that’s the smart looking black and gold car the triple one doing a 123 last time across the strip Dean

EV at the moment he’s sitting in third place here he comes down there across the line and doesn’t go any faster still third fastest on a 12.6 Shane haer again in this 9006 he’s the the one to chase at the moment he comes across the line again and it doesn’t go any

Faster car number 81 Mike Harcourt like you say they were very popular when they first come out in fact the South Canterbury has quite a uh quite a big MX5 club with about 30 odd cars of all shapes and sizes of MX5 up to what up to the latest Versions Shane hater there in the 9006 he’s the man currently holding on to that P1 position through the Kink coming down to re off another one and let’s see if he goes any faster no he doesn’t so it’s he from Yan from Evans and then the number nine there of Alex

Corp then it’s hortt bosselman in the 89 car then Brandon in the 66 so can’t be too long left in the session now although the lights are still green so we’ve got at least a couple of minutes so two minutes to go in the session we can pull a rabbit out of the Hat get onto the front row of the grid

That’s right he’s going to take bragging rights the moment it’s Shane hater he goes a little bit quicker a 192 not too not too far behind it’s um sorry it’s Yen’s gone fastest car 69 up to a 11 184 so Yan hater and Evans currently fastest qualifying for the MX5 Heritage Field who can cross the line before it turns red and get another laping right at the end to a fast Dash that’s right don’t see that the lights blinking as they come across the start finish Stak which tell them tells them there’s only 2 minutes left in the session down to about a minute now Benny Yan car number 69 is the man at the moment trying to beat 11843 Shane hater at

1192 So Daniel Harris just crossing the line currently setting eight fastest P for Daniels are 1278 he’s right there bro the advantage of not having many in the field at the moment Bron is obviously clean air so it’s going to be a little bit different for the qualifying sessions

For the SS Cup and the 2K cup later on this morning Paul they will struggle to find clean air to get a good time in that’s right that’s what it’s all about those huge fields but at the moment for the Heritage cup it’s Benny Yan and car number 69 the man to

Beat so checked Flags out anyone go faster as they cross the line he goes car 89 what can he do so just waiting on some times to come through but it was Benny Yan who was the man to beat still a couple of cars to complete their hot laps Here Comes hater across

The line and car 59 the 83 coming through there two mik toll so so we we’ got someone having a lock up there out in the grass on the exit of power and Co so checked flag out now for all the competitors all right MX5 Heritage cup

Thank you very much for coming down to the South Island there we go Benny Yan on pole in car 69 Shane hater second the 906 MX5 then Dan evens third Alex cour Mike harkort Richard boltzman guy Brandon Daryl Harris and MC toll ring out the nine car field a 1184 was the

Fastest first up for the mx-5s and qualifying interesting to see how fast they go under race conditions of course the circuit it will heat up with the sun that’s streaming down today and that will influence the cars lap times as the day progresses and heats

Up there we go another shot of that blue MX5 getting a little bit loose yeah lost the rear going in the exit of power and Co did well to gather it back up so up next qualifying for the 2K cup always look forward to this good

Qualifying and if you don’t get a good qualifying in it can hampy your whole weekend we’ve had the three drivers pretty much on top for um P1 in qualifying yesterday oh sorry the P1 and P2 yesterday hey mevans of course defending Champion he is two-time

Champ so with the races for the S uh the 2K cup over the weekend of course the first race is based on their qualifying time so particularly those chasing the championship they want to get out onto the circuit and try and find a gap which

Isn’t going to be easy with a 38 odd car field and put a good timeout races for the west of the weekend uh marble draw for the 2K cup field so it’s a bit of a you’re in the luck of the Gods after that marble draw

Race for race two and then the third race is a reverse marble draw which mixes up the racing CU you have the faster competitors mixed them with the rest of the field they might get a good draw and start off the front all right I’d like to welcome

Supporting the 2K cup Jeff hi how are you welcome to a lovely sunny weekend at levels motor Raceway in the central South Island as the 2K cup field supported by digital Fusion once again heads out onto the track Rex edar the first one out he’s a man who likes to

Have many panel colors on his car he uh has certainly got a few of those in his paddock at home so we got quite a quite a Big Field here today and uh it will be interesting to see with a big field like this and Rick’s

Heading out so quickly uh that they slow ones are probably going to get caught even before they get out of the Trap Rex likes to get a good start on the field yeah we were saying Jeff it is going to be tricky to find a clear a

Clear spot of the circuit get your car your tires brakes up to operating temperature and then put out a blistering lap so you can be near the front of the grid for the first race this weekend yeah absolutely I think Rex is almost coming up to the ha pin

Already and they’re still still um coming out of the out of the shoot there’s a couple here to watch there’s there’s Herman the German which is the BMW heading down the back straight there by Greg Mitchell and right behind him is Michael gunstone they’re two to watch

They’re pretty quick cars so we got some new competitors here this weekend Jeff we we’ve actually got um a young fellow he is just coming past on the back straight there now um number 18 he’s he’s just I think he’s only like 14 so it be interesting to watch him he just

Turned 14 watch him run oh that’s good isn’t it what did you do in the school holidays I went camping I played golf I went Motor Racing yes apparently you can get dispensation race at 12 but I don’t know I’ll be that Keen on that my

Favorite car I have to say my favorite car is number 77 that’s my son he’s the fastest one there surely hey you remember Paul racing inas Ronda the Honda out there today in the 24 Red Racing and tigas Paul’s old Honda does hold the 2K cup lap record at

A 118 dead they have been faster cars but the 118 time is the breakout time for 2K cup so if you go faster it doesn’t count oh I love it I love it having a commentator holding the record he speaks with authority it’s just like working with

Sterling MOS it really is he he doesn’t bring it up often in conversation or anything oh occasionally it does get mentioned doesn’t talk about as we laser that started often though does he no no the laser doesn’t get mentioned at all just that was just a bit of a mobile

Chicane the laser I believe it’s still on a shed in full 2K Cup racing regalia so they can drag it out again just didn’t quite have the straight line handling of some of the other vehicles out there right feel full field there’s not many giips here no great f field of 2K cup

Supported by digital Fusion for the Thunder Down Under Super Truck meeting brought to you by trust Ali and we s make we thank you to premium insolation as well for uh for live streaming this so those of you that aren’t lucky enough to be here in person can enjoy

All the action this weekend through pits media right they can’t be far away from actually posting some times here so here’s the Beamer you were talking about earlier Jeff just crossing the line now k 11 Greg Mitchell a bit of a story of that one he worked so hard

Getting the the the handling so perfect he did one adjustment and mucked it all up so he’s not sure how it’s going to go this we you so he’s putting out a 11 188 um but the fastest car so far is that one we mentioned was the Michael gunin a

1186 they will definitely get faster from there they were posting s of 117s yesterday in test although it’s a fairly good headwind out there SL down there back straight so um we mentioned the 118 breakout time for 2K cup are they allowed to qualify faster than that time

Yes sir all the rules are off the table today for for the qualifying session for the qualifying session so they can go faster than 11 to put it on the front row of the Grid it’s just while the racing is on if they’re going faster than 118 it’s actually not to their

Benefit is it no it’s not it’s really hard to tell if you’re going that quick um it’s some guys say it’s a bit of a badge of honor uh if you get right Young go too fast that’s a good thing so reigning Champion hes Evans doing a

1177 with gunstone pushed back to second now car s doing a 11 186 and we have the 11 car the BMW we’re talking of Greg Mitchell there from Darfield currently he’s a 11 188 third fastest qualifier and with such a big field for the for the guns they really do need to

Be up the front of the grid for the qualifying for race one which is based on qualifying times they do watch out for 3si as well which which is Greg barklay he’s he’s sort of one of these guys that pulls numbers out of the bag at the last

Minute okay there the one 125 124 car just crossing the line now Tim Leonard that’s in Paul’s old Honda Ronda she was affectionately named while Paul was racing it yeah gr re was that confident yesterday he took the cover off the car looked at it for 6 hours and put the

Cover back on it excellent we’ll just see how that pans out for him over the weekend Jeff he’s a gentleman racer that boy big mix of competitors in 2K cup there’s some people that were new to Motor Racing some people that have returned to Motor Racing perhaps they

Were motor racing in the younger years of their life and then you know you get mortgages and families and things and yeah and that’s exactly what happened when we start back later on yeah we started this we had a lot of younger fellas but they exactly happens get

Marriages get mortgages get you know have to build a deck for summer type of stuff and um some of them are come back again but there’s a lot of people in here that are been around a long time um local businessmen and bits and pieces like that it’s just their passion they

Don’t want to go any further we’ve had a large number of people come through and into SS cup and open wheelers and all sorts of things so it’s been a great feed of class for the for the uh Motorsport and I think you should also mention the camaraderie of the track

Jeff um when Paul was racing in 2K cup i’ quite often go to the afterm match functions where you know people were telling lies about the weekend and there’s a great deal of comaraderie and also during the race weekend if there’s something that needs to be done on a car

You’ll soon find youve probably got half a dozen of your hard competitors giving you a hand to fix whatever is needed to get you back out there on the circuit that’s right and the currency of a box of beers seems to go a long way in this

In this class um we had an incident actually round one where the the H integ decided didn’t want to go it turned out down a dizzy and gr Reynolds is across there and he was stealing a a the spare dizzy off wrecks and where we s of go so

Missed one race but not the didn’t wreck the season and that happens all the time that’s what makes the uh 2K cap digital fusion class such a good C to get into if you are sitting on the bank and think I wouldn’t mind giving this motor

Racing Caper a go this is a great class to get involved with race all over the south island so it’s interesting to see got Hamish first Greg and a BMW second then we’ve got a Honda then another BMW then Honda and then the Toyota so really

Mixing it up um but those those uh E36 BMWs really do like a nice warm track at levels they certainly do so the BMW that’s entered their Jeff I it’s 323 so that’s a 2.3 l car is it compared to some of them which are 2 L how does that

Work in 2K car um Euros can go up to 2.5 so both of the BMWs that are out there they’re only rear wheeel drive cars in the whole track but um number 11 and then obviously Cole be one as well they are the only cars that are over 2 L um I

Guess the theory being that they’re just a little bit heavy and a little bit bit slower than some of these um fast cars so the power to weights comparable to the smaller lighter like the integras or the truno and the vins yeah they are but by gosh they’re quick in a straight line

Get those cuz they’re of course six-cylinder up and gone up and gone and they do like to W their tail as they do it in different driving Style course re Drive platform compared to the most of the fast cars over the years have been the truno Lin or the

Integras there’s been a massive rivalry between those two two um mares um and there’s all sorts of comments on which one’s faster and which days and depends on whether it’s track’s hot or cold and it’s it’s a great ban and it’s a great way to wind somebody up just integras

Need bigger breaks for Christmas that’s what I’ve been told yep somebody’s decied have a we off bit of action off the end of the front St talk about those those Germans working their back Tails Greg has done that exactly in the uh the BMW um this

Is the car I was talking about before that had the performance perfect and he decided to just alter something and now he’s deciding to be a lawmar just went the wrong way in the handling Department it’ll be somebody else’s fault you ask him he’ll tell you it’s somebody else’s fault very

Sheepishly hitting down the back straight at the moment we hopefully he doesn’t have a mechanical incident we can get back up to speed but at the moment it is the number one car hes Evans ramming champion in the Toyota Corolla on a 1177 now you can buy that car it’s for

Sale that car has a massive pedigree used to be the Booth’s car and it’s won the 800 and it’s won several championships so uh if you are thinking about getting a 2K cup go down and see those boys I’m sure they’re happy there’s actually a couple of cars

There’s a Honda and a Toyota so we talk about those mares you can take your preference so 2K cup where does 2k come from when these cars were initially built the purchaser had to show that they had purchased the car for no more than $2,000 once they purchase the car

Of course they can put money into making it go faster a little bit there’s very mild modifications that are allowed to be performed but most of the changes are to do with safety so they put on their cage their harness their seat and they go Motor Racing yeah they do it’s become

Harder to find those 2K cup cars for 2K um so actually up the limited this year and they’ve also changing the 20- year rule well it’s basically 20 years used to be pre-2000 now it’s actually 20 years old um just to try and keep prices

Down and and but P it’s very hard to find Sometimes some Le indicators because um one Le drivers don’t use them but they certainly like to rub them off and leave them on the side of the track so it was getting hard there for while

To find it so hence they’ve made them a little bit newer in the way of the cars you can actually run and from memory Jeff they used to have a schedule of cars for 2K cups off the cars on the schedule you’re automatically able to race it but then you could approach the

Committee if you had something that was a little bit more interesting to be considered yeah and there car coming past now Nick Hilton is a classic of that that’s the first um new shape Cela we’ve had there are six speed so you you start to get a few of those coming in

Next l automatic thing and we’re starting to see I know there’s another one being built of those at the moment so it’s good to see those different cars no lasers though I hunting for lasers couldn’t find any those mobile canes but when the when the series started out people probably weren’t

Necessarily aware what the fastest cars were going to be but it didn’t take long to establish that it was really going to be a true no livein or an Integrity you were going to need to be at the sharp end of the field we had all sorts we had

Puos we had Alphas we had all sorts of things that actually tune up and and and give it a crack and you’re exactly right you discover very quickly which ones are the quicker ones and what are the more reliable ones we had a lot of trouble with the Mitsubishi originally um you

Know once they go around the corner they lose all the oil and next thing you don’t have a motor so you’re not allowed to baffle the sump cuz that’s not really a performance Advantage it’s a reliability you’re allowed to baffle the sump now but that was a part of a change

That came on so it sort of evolved a wee bit with with that so you can do a few more things now than you could um but it’s quite stringent there sort of like you know you’re racing the car not the bank and that’s the whole point used to

Be the motto of the of the of the brand um as as everybody’s trying to create something that’s reasonably equal something you can you can relate to as as a spectator um in the early days most of the cars were driven here they didn’t have roll CES you don’t actually need a

Roll C Cas for this and they’re generally driven home unless you’re’ being fairly hard on them um so that’s that’s something that you know you’re looking at these cars they are stock standard engines what they come out with with the Integra what they come out with

With the uh black top Livin that is what you actually pick up and drive around if you just buying one off Facebook marketplace with trade me so you could race it on Sunday and Mom could go get the groceries in it on Monday yeah she

Could yeah she could as long as she can get the groceries in around the roll coage that’s sticking in the hatch of her Integra yes we do like safety features okay top 10 we have hes Evans on a77 fastest there Greg Mitchell is going to be second on the grid Michael

Gunston’s going to be third Greg barlay fourth he went through in a 11 182 then fifth on the grid in the 1 197 car is Harry McDonald sixth is 325 Kyle bedley seventh is Mr Graham renolds 128 he went through in a 11 186 then we’ve got the number eight car

515 James swy ninth is Jonathan Prince raning out the top 10 for the digital Fusion 2K cup class is going to be Gavin Thompson in car 56 so as we mentioned first race of the weekend for this very large field is based on their qualifying

Time and after that it’s the luck of the Gods cuz it’s Marble draw it’s look it’s going to be interesting there’s two two a couple of integras and there’s a couple of mr2s there’s there’s um a couple of Levens there’s you it’s a real mix of vehicles there too so what

Generally is there any particular brand that launches better off the line at the start of the race je yeah2 this particular em2 the one of Greg Barclays I don’t know how he does it but he seems to get about four or five spots in the first 100 meters so he’s got all the

Weight over the back wheels The Driven Wheels yeah he does and and um you’ve also you also got gav Thompson um racing his one his quadrant um land survey car so he’s I think he qualified 10th watch him by the first corner he will be about fifth and they’re some of the easiest

Positions to get aren’t they those off the start line yeah they are but they do piss everybody else off with the way they do that so oh we’re in hango you got to spend the rest of the race trying to get back past well thank you very much Jeff for your professional

Comments in regard to the digital Fusion 2K cup field we’ll look forward to catching up with you later in the weekend you go and get all the gos thank you so welcoming now Brendan Cooney or B2 on the mic this morning hello B2 how are you morning Brendan

Yeah pretty good thanks good to see the weather’s held off although that wind’s being a bit of a nuisance so B2 lives uh just down the road for the circuit here in South canbury so we can hopefully rely on him for the local weather predictions he’ll stick his lick his

Fingers stick it out the window and then bring up the Met Service app and have a look at what’s happening yeah I was uh talking to Andrew catching this morning and he and he said uh what’s up with this wind and I said look mate I got rid

Of the rain for you what more do you want that’s right can only afford so much weather can’t you yeah yeah so yes I am lucky enough to to live only about 800 M from the track so uh it’s a it’s a fantastic spot to live all right so coming out onto the

Circuit at the moment for their qualifying session is the Mazda racing series these very smart looking RX8 race cars um obviously the me aric very good handling car to start with so it is a good basis for a race machine we have two classes of the rx8s here this

Weekend this one includes the earlier generation of rx7s just heading out onto the track okay so coming up now as we mentioned is the m MDA racing cars for a 15-minute qualifying session and then we will be moving on to the qualifying for the New Zealand super trucks so there’s a flying farewell

Tomorrow afternoon and it’s not necessarily going to be the first up competitors in these trucks that are driving so they’ve got their own qualifying session we’ve got the Oscars then we’ve got formula 4D SS cap on the screen you’ll see we’ve got the MX5 2K cap Mazda racing series Super Tracks

Oscar Formula Ford SS cup again Mainland muscle cars look out for them the V8s are amazing enough for the Ford fans the shf pans shf fans rather and of course if it’s Mopar or no car we have some Mopar in the field for you we do got to got to

Have the odd mopa here and you don’t see too many of them racing one of my favorite parts of the day they’re just squalling through lunch lunch time mini SS pre 65s then we’ve got Mazda racing series again 2K cup Oscars formula fors sa C SS cup huge field as we mentioned

This morning the most Fields we’ve ever had at the race all right we’ve got a car there that hasn’t made it around the circuit safely car 92 just parked up there coming out of the cat evaluation hapin see if we can get an incident vehicle there cuz they won’t be a to do

Much with that sitting in the way there is a marshall post over the other side of the circuit if he could get it across behind the wall that would be ideal Red flag the session so they can remove that vehicle to safety so we will have a reset for the qualifying session the Okay so we’ve got a flag of the 92 RX8 going off coming out of the cut evaluation herein it looks like it’s just may have cut out for whatever

Reason it’s certainly no uh incident there between any other vehicles it doesn’t look like there was any assistance to move to the outside of the circuits just carefully parked on the outside so we’ve got the incident vehicle there to turn back into the pits hopefully it might be a little

Electrical Gremlin or something that they can address and get that car running again so that’s mat Templeton out of cross s at number 92 so hopefully nothing major going on there as we see the car’s just pulling into the dummy grid just in pit Lane so the crew there will be letting the

Driver know what’s happened won’t take too long to get that RX8 to a safe spot on the circuit with any luck there was no order or anything coming out of that vehicle it looked pretty good from our Vantage Point up here they’ll get M templeton’s

Car into the pits and then we’ll be able to get the qualifying session for the Mazda racing series underway once again as I mentioned got a couple of uh old generation first generation ma rx7s out there as well was originally the ma RX7 racing class that sucked up all the as the

Rx7s that were Japanese Imports off the road it’s quite hard to find a first gen RX7 there and then we moved on to the RX8 so the series evolved overtime starting 33 years ago Gary cliff and Roger townend big names and Motorsport in the central South isand Christ Church car dealers

Has got together to come up with some rules for a cost effective one make series originally thought that they would use debts in 1200s and 1600s but decided on our rx7s as a better option after many successful years running the rx7s the series evolved into using

Series 4 rx7s and then the series six Batman’s before 2014 where the first RX8 was built so that’s why you see a mixture of the the different cars so the category actually has over 50 rxh throughout the country which is awesome as we see them uh heading out towards the track again

Um so that’s the 76 car will kitchen local young Legend leading the rx8s out onto the circuit sorry Brendan who was next Chris White in the Triple Eight car uh and Matt DOD in the number 15 all right there we go oh one of the cars

Over there’s got the Bonnet up no Bonnet back down shut the doors get them out on the track la so that’s the same car templon yep that’s the same car that just run off at the hapin there so it must have been just something really really annoying

Cuz they they’ve just poked around got it running again it’s just interesting to see where he heads whether he heads back out or into the grid now looks like he’s heading back out onto the track so Matt Templeton in the New World St Martin supported maner RX8 getting back out onto the

Circuit for the 15-minute qualifying session for for the mesda racing Series all right so it is the 76 car of will kitchen that crosses the tape first to stter Flying lab so will was uh the Series champion in the our mesda class last year doing very very well support Ranger coding a lot of other South kenary businesses have their name all over as

Vehicle we’re hoping for big things for will Kitchen in his Motorsport career started off in the 2K cup class his father was racing 2K cup and SS cup initially but I think uh Wills now pushed dead to the other side of the garage and we’ll play on our race cars

Now well there might be another race car on the wings is there another race car in the Rings yes I believe so all right just a we message there for our viewers please excuse the bouncy camera is very windy out here today hopefully you’re not going to get motion sickness sitting in

Your lounge with your feet up on the lazy boy yeah Big Ups to the guys out on the sizzor lifts in this wind uh probably they’re probably used to it but uh personally I’m not a fan of going up in those things in the wind so good on them

And thanks very much for what you’re doing so that’s M templon just crossing the line in car 92 doing a 12 129 just as he does a Sidle out we do have will kitchen now at the sharper into the field 11174 will in the 76 car then we

Have the 28 car Elton witchman from Orland second fastest at the moment just as we start the qualifying session for the Mazda racing series he did a 1144 with the 67 car of anque sitting their third fastest at the moment all Triple Eight car there of Chris White Jr just

Crossing the line from pebbleton he’s done a 11 10 n I see his sponsors of the bank of dad uh GRC audio on North and the North Island rounds the mrl group so Chris White Junior very very quick behind the wheel a young fell be good to

Have a bank of Dad wouldn’t it be too oh if only if only we had a bank of dad but good time there from the triple eight carat a w 10 n well capton will be desperately trying to hunt that time down in the 76 Ranger coding

RX8 wanting to put on a good show in front of his home crowd so there’s the 92 car that stopped the incident a little bit earlier on m t crossing the line doing a 1138 now so looks like whatever Gremlins there have been exercised from the

Vehicle got the 28 car crossing the line now that’s Elden Witchman doing a 144s best for that car so longer qualifying session for the the Mazda racing series they’ve got 15 minutes compared to the 10minute sessions we’ve had earlier on just got the Batman RX7 the car 44 crossing the line so Chris White just leading the

Time there with a 110 793 followed by Will katching On A 11479 and D price on a 112 396 Matt DOD 11272 and uh Mr Collins in a 112 977 and the number 44 of course the Collins boys just down the road in parior current Farmers races of anything that they’ve got in the shed Brent Collins are racing in the super trucks this weekend also been very successful over the years pr65 racing The Minis Bren Collins was the inaugural Toyota Racing

Series champion back in the day there’s a nice painting of Brent in the Toyota Racing Series car up in the club rooms just to the south of the control tower and also owns the Don grinley uh V6 powered RX7 which has just had a bit of

A tidy up after a an incident last year so quite often see print out in that RX7 when we have the Classic Motor Racing which kicks off next weekend scope and Christ Church All right still the Triple Eight car 117 as the fastest qualifying time Chris White Jr from prebbleton Okay just got the 94 car Crossing line there that’s Andy French from rolliston currently sitting 10th fastest and qualifying on a42 all right there’s will kitchen we’ll be looking for big things for will does he go any faster no he doesn’t still sitting second fastest with his best

Time at the moment of a 114 as we mentioned Series champion last year will kitchen with his dad building something new in the garage says B2 yeah well I don’t know if it’s for him or or if it’s a a new car for will I’m not too sure but there’s there’s certainly something

Going on there yeah I’m not one to gossip bad all right something like that we’ve got Steve spear just crossing the line there Steve all the way down from Orland he obv got his passport stamped as well sitting a little fastest at the moment he is on a 1157 green flag qualifying session those of us enjoying the lovely Norwest weather here at levels Raceway meeting as we’ve mentioned supported by trust ouri thank you very much ladies and gentlemen for supporting us once again as we mentioned earlier 16th year that they’ve supported us at bringing the super trucks to the central

South Island and putting on a great show for you at lels Raceway well we got a car just easing on down the back straight now one of the first Generations rx7s car 50 it’s the Collins car done a 1161 at the moment few cars coming into the pits got the 94 car got another car sitting on the top of the circuit up there one of the series one earlier rx7s by the look of it hopefully in a safe space unlike earlier when we

Had to stop the qualifying session for the Mazda racing series so we’ve got number 46 sitting in the pits and we’ve just been informed that he did had a bit of an incident yesterday so hopefully it’s nothing to do with that and they just doing a

Couple of checks so he can carry on his Way a good shot now Will Smith going through the card evaluation here and in the number 76 Ranger code supported RX8 well sitting second fastest in qualifying at the moment as a local boy who’ll be wanting to do better than that he’ll be wanting to be on the front row of the grid

To provide a response to all his supporters that have got him out racing in that lovely RX8 but it’s still the Chris White Junior car sitting on a 1106 the Triple Eight car currently has provisional pole so it’s 08 of a second just ahead of well catching

There which is quite a bit on that little circuit isn’t it B to it is quite a bit on our Wei circuit yeah um and then will is almost a second ahead of D price but then we’ve got a whole bunch of them uh in in the 112 so those first

Two or three competitors just that little step ahead of everyone else at this point in time but all those competitors sitting in the 112 113 area that’s going to make for a very enjoyable race later on today isn’t it indeed it is when you’re all fighting

For that same little bit of circuit yeah battles within battles battles within battles so yes we’ve got the car of down price and the 94 car there andy French just sitting in the pits at the moment getting tickled a little Bit okay here’s will kitchen going across the line was he any quicker no he was not still 114 best time for the 76 car well that last lapy must have slowed down there somewhere that was a 116 so obviously just taking a little easy there maybe just taking a little bit of

Temperature out of the car just to get ready for another hot lap you know the best is if you can get that fastest time at the end of noas can go better than you that’s it that’s probably the Sweet Spot isn’t it and qualifying it’s going to be awful hot

Inside those cars today too it’s it’s hot enough outside as we we all know but inside those cars you can add a heap of extra degrees to that temperature we also appreciate as we mentioned the marshals out there all those on cameras can’t be a pleasant day for them oh

While we’re talking about that could you just take the Aon down a degree there boys it’s just getting a bit bit warm up here oh that’s rough it is rough isn’t it if only we were stting on cold liquid Refreshments as well it’s very hard to get the perfect vantage point I don’t

Thr all to swear our commentary no not allowed to SAR our commentary so there’s the 50 c of Collins crossing the line fastest time for that car at the moment Stella 116044 see Brent Collins just just popped up a spot there in front of Matt DOD a little change there with the 112

644 so he’s driving the older generation car and the the Batman RX7 the 44 Car so there we have the number 12 car D price that was just come out of the pits so he’ll be out to set a good time see if he can get us further up the field but it’s still Chris White Jr the Triple Eight car sitting there on a 110

Can anyone challenge that for P1 on the grid so we’ve got around just under 2 minutes left in our qualifying session the green lights have gone all flashy enough for a couple of laps if you try time it right can anyone take out Chris White Jr relegate him back down the Grid so arur Bram just pulling into the pits now in the triple two car so that Batman of uh of Brent Collins is actually eligible to run with the rx8s in the same category the same class but there are separate classes for the oldest I don’t think don’t if there’s

Any series 4S here and series 1 rx7s couple series ones of course we got the Collins car there the Series 6 ARX 7 bones had also uh qualify for the Masters as well I see here that they run a rookie and Masters title for over 4

He is a senior competitor in more ways than one isn’t he Mr Collins check a flag out into the qualifying session so that might be it well could be drinks to Chris White Jr in the Triple Eight Master RX8 is anyone else on a hot lap at the

Moment Still Still Flags coming up so we’ll just wait for a little minute for everyone else to finish their lapse too early to call is it it is too early still a few giving it a red hot go so these rx8s are a good basis for a race car excellent handling machines my

Mom used to have one actually and wasn’t yellow it could it could yeah the yellow color wasn’t like the best option I don’t know who would have picked that when they bought it from the dealer but lovely handling car of course you’ve also got the likes

Of uh the V EX Mr Marcus fan clink from Christ Church with this triple RoR rally car rally car oh now he’s got a quad rador C uh t r car as well if if you know two roers aren’t enough and three really doesn’t do your deal

Either it’s looking like that’s where uh the qualifying is going to stay so as you said before Brendan Triple Eight Chris White Jr uh in P1 well kitching P2 Delan price and P3 M Templeton P4 number 4 four bones Collins in P5 Matt dot in P6 seven ant torque 8 triple2 Arthur

Browan h 9 28 Alton witchman and number 10 antie Andy French I big your pardon that’s running out the top 10 that’s all right with uh Steve spear heish Collins David Ferguson and Aaron Clyde there just raning out the NDA series field so that’s it from now from B1 and T B2

We’d like to bring Clint Brown and Paul Lancaster in for the expert commentary and guidance as we have the Nappa supported Super Tracks well done to the master class look forward to the Super Tracks hello gentlemen yes up next it’s the qualifying for the flying fwell of course flying fwell is

Normally a race that’s held at the end of the race weekend we’re going to have um a couple of different drivers in the trucks this time Clint for the flying Farewell by the looks of things yes P1 I’m going to be B3 for the weekend along

With B1 and B2 certainly I hope you’re enjoying our live coverage from pits TV as we stream it here in The Sensational Sunshine of levels Raceway in Timaru yes so the president of the New Zealand Truck Racing Association ironically is Dave West number 26 in the freight liner

Out of pooi who leads the series of the Nappa NZ super trucks after round one at Manfield back in October his idea was to um help build the Next Generation so over the years they’ve had the flying farewell where different drivers have been uh given a chance to actually get

Behind the wheel and um what they’ve done now is actually got the uh their own little week Championship so Ricky West who’s the son of Dave West he currently leads the flying farewell with 27 points Malcolm little is the owner of number 66 where Brent Collins no doubt will try

And get his tricks this weekend uh he’s back in his own truck he’s a three-time truck racing champion with 22 points Gary Price the legendary Larin out of Southland he’s uh 22 21 points he’s driving the number 63 scaria of Ron Suter hard case Ash hay he’s going to be

Our co- commentator former truck racer and uh also top truck mechanic uh he’s driving the 2 for international of Mark King out at Muna the login contractor with 19 points Jason Lincoln he’s the silver back he’s the crew chief for Troy eding he’s the dude who forgot to fill

Up the diesel yesterday and qualify so uh he he was coping a bit of flag today so he’s he’s he was very nervous at Manfield first time driving the truck that he works on uh and then you’ve got Shane Gray who was uh racing his own track number five but this weekend we’

Got John hiitburn local man out of uh out of Tim Johnny he knows trucks inside and out he’s been there and done that in them before so a former truck racing champion from 2013 and 2014 Keith wlson 65 years old first time in a truck he’s been working on Conor Innings Volvo he

Was nervous as hell at Manfield he nursed it around there but um he’ll be looking forward to actually driving that one and getting more relaxed and more sort of sort of used to it yeah yeah just getting you know the feeling of putting it not not on the wall yeah into the right

Part of the track at the right time and then Peter Bart never got a chance to do it because bones had problems and they didn’t get a chance to get that other track out there with the diff problems for Alex little number number one so that’s the flying farewell and this is

The uh the chance for these drivers to get out there and they normally do the scrub sessions as well so they get out there and warm up the Nappa NZ super trucks and give them a chance to actually get the field before they go out there and have their own little B

Race so when they do the um the series over in England or over in Europe the European truck racing series they have what they term as the promoters class so you have the other drivers coming through so you’ve got your your top drivers then you have the other drivers

And they’re getting a chance to be promoted to get into it so this is exactly what they’re doing with the Nappa NZ super trucks and the flying farewell as you take a look at Ricky West 19-year-old mechanic out of pooi son of Dave West Who currently leads

They are big Detroit Motor City fans with their freight liners and he’s currently leading that flying farewell competition so this is a very important qualifying session because it’ll be the final race of the weekend and what a weekend it’s going to be with trust AI Thunder Down Under here at levels

Raceway in Timaru it’ll be uh over six laps a reverse grid Showdown to finish the weekend and we’ll start getting those first times coming through for the um for the Napa nzed Super Truck yes Ash hey out there on the number 24 truck that’s Ash’s old truck so he’ll know it

Inside and out and you can already see um how quick he’s got the thing going uh especially when he comes down the front straight but it was a bit of a loose cannon back in his day Ash used to put a good show on for the crowd and good to

See that he’s getting a bit of payback back in the number 24 truck normally run by Mark King good to see the Bedford of Tony brand out of rangor national forest yes getting that truck back out onto the track which is actually great and there’s one of the uh is that the Volvo

That’s the Kenworth the Kenworth of U that’ll be Keith Wilson Keith Wilson in that Volvo yeah number 12 the Volvo NH so like you say it’s good to see one of the bedfords here they haven’t been here for the last couple of years Clint so uh there is a couple of them around

Now that’s Tony br’s Bedford you’ll see him coming into shot very soon as the two two trucks go charging down the main streak so that’s Malcolm little 66 and right behind him Peter Bart and number one Alex little but Craig Mason is the son in-law of Tony Bram and he looks

After that truck so he’s got the job of driving it over the weekend and the flying farewell so he was nervous as hell as well so that’s the great thing about this you’ve got a 10-minute qualifying session you work on it get out there and drive it see what it does

See how you go try not to break it so you can have a bit of time off when you get back in grin it don’t bin it as as they say so Craig Mason son-in-law of Tony Brandon the Bedford right behind the Elder Statesman Peter Bartlett getting a chance to uh get the

Alex little machine and of course it’s interesting talking to Ron Suter full-time champion who bought the Denny Holmes Scania that um Gary Price will be driving number 63 he was saying that we all learn to drive by the seat of the pants in New Zealand

But he says as he’s got older he’s had to adapt by using data and it’s interesting that when we do the racing he was saying the data is actually telling you to go harder on the brakes and harder on the accelerator which is no there’s no hiding from data Clint you

Can blame this you can blame that but there’s no hiding from the data and there’s no hiding from the sunshine here at levels there is Gary Price and Ash ha on the track coming down towards the front straight look at Gary Price He knows how to lean on it and so does Ash

Ha as well that two one’s going to be fascinating when you got nine trucks going into the the start of the race first laps always very exciting there’s always a bit of touching going on down through there and I love Timaru with all the truckies like Hilton H as you can

See there the way they’ve got their big supporters sort of lounges all set up there around the big sweeper you got the grand stand over there stand they’ve been doing that for years too there’s been uh many a story probably started over there in that container no doubt

Over the years I’ve been over there and done some interviews for TV many years ago when we used to come down here with the likes of the V8s and stuff so it’s uh Johnny hiitburn no surprises a 120 number 5 filling in for Shane Gray the Brent Collins truck has been driven by

66 Malcolm little a 126 alen little Peter bartler to 137 24 Mark King just trying to get some time s up there at the moment yeah looks like a couple of these trucks might not have the transponders working out there Clint just the four on

The screen at the moment and four on the other computer too so perhaps a couple of timing issues there for some of them but like you say at the moment it’s the number five truck out there Johnny hiitburn who’s the quickest on a 120 and that’s a strategic move by Shane

Gray to come down here and catch up with Johnny hippon very similar their business practices also their mindsets and Shane Gray was great he just loves Timaru he says it’s the home of truck racing in New Zealand because when other circuit says no we don’t want you too

Much diesel too much noise too much rubber Timaru levels yeah come on back we love the trucks so that’s why Shane Gray loves having Johnny Hipp and a former truck racing champion from Timaru driving his Kenworth and driving it and also as a former Champion he can suck

The Living Daylights out of that and say how do I make this thing go faster mate well it’s it’ll also be um a bit of a marker too for Shane just to see what John can get out of it um and it’s probably a truck that Johnny hasn’t

Really driven anything like that it’s very solid in its setup the little number five truck of Shane gr doesn’t move around hasn’t got a lot of the body roll that some of the other trucks have so uh it’ll also be a learning experience for Johnny as well so now we

Get two different types of classes out there the class A trucks basically PL of horsepower they are over 12 L and round about 5 1/2 ton pumping up to 2,000 horsepower Class B trucks under 12 L normally with the old C12 Motors and R about the 5 ton Mark in 1500 horsepower

It’s ironic that Ron Suter and number 63 the Scania they actually went back from class A to CL Class B and they’ve actually going a bit quicker because sometimes you can go harder on the breaking and harder on the accelerating coming out of the corner want to take

Advantage of the lighter weight and just get that bit of a power down earlier as with the class A trucks as you’ll see over the racing over the weekend will probably motor down that big long back straight and catch up in the straights with the power well you see though hit

The 100 mile on hour mark pretty much uh opposite the opposite us here in the commentary box plint down the back straight and that’s hitting 100 m hour a lot quicker than most race cars here so they from where to go to 100 mph they’re pretty quick and remember they’re

Restricted to 160k if you break out you get pinged like 66 Bon gons is to be done they weigh them as well and they’ve actually got to calculate how much diesel you may use and the weight of the driver so when you come back you’re not underway so there’s a lot to be

Considered when driving a super truck yeah all the rules are there it’s not just um bring your truck and H would go that you know like over the years there’s been a bit of protesting here in there Clint but um the I think it’s pretty well you know mate Paul P1 in

Fact you’ve got their ideal starting position you got P1 he’s on pole position for the whole weekend P1 NB3 oh that’s me I’m in the back um rules are there and we people like to you know be in the rules they’re always pushed yeah they’re always pushed in fact I heard

That there was another class that had uh someone uh disqualified from the qualifying too so you know like that they are checking and they will check even right down to the 2K cup they check so um um rules are there for a reason so there’s the Volvo and that is uh Keith

Wilson of Conor eding and the Kenworth of Troy eding driven by Jason Lincoln the silver back is down the other part of the street so the 65y old statement doing a good job at the moment it’s still Johnny Hein out in front with a 120 Malcolm little driving Brent Collins

At 66 getting the tricks with a 121 Ricky West the leader getting up to a 1221 26 the freight liner Gary Price driving Ronnie Salter scaria the XNY home truck a 124 Craig Mason driving the Tony Brand number eight the Bedford 128 Alex little truck has been driven

Pretty well by Peter Bartlet in the 130 marks uh Troy yiding that’s Keith Wilson uh that is Jason Lincoln he’s done a 136 Connor eating which is Troy Keith Wilson he’s down the back of 13 37 what’s happened to Old my mate the inter where’s where’s Ash hay he’ll have a lot

To talk about during the commentary they did have a he’s leing back towards the pets they had a massive job yesterday redoing the diff ripped that out they had guys from sulter team they had guys from other teams helping them put it back in uh it was a massive job um and

So obviously you might just have a little bit of a problem seemed all right in the scrub down but hopefully won’t affect Mark King out of iduna one of the great characters of the Nappa NZ super trucks no we looking forward to the racing all weekend for the super

Trucks cage bought this weekend by Bosco which is Bryce O Sullivan Contracting out of Wellington who’s one of the mates of Shane Gray of course Nappa right behind the trade the retail trade of uh helping these truckies a lot of them are customers keep their uh trucks on the on

The road so the tray part of looking after the heavy truck industry and the heavy industry as well which is why Napa get behind the Napa NZ super trucks so that their race is going to be the flying farewell the last of all the 34 races over the weekend so these guys

Are then going to be basically working on these trucks and they’ll be getting them back out ready for the first race six laps starting from Pole Position will be Alex little the two-time defending champion in P1 to the 119 and there you have it Johnny hurn we’ll be leading off the flying farewell

To wrap up the weekend here with truste Ori thundered out under followed by Malcolm Collins three time Champion Gary Price then you’ve got Ricky West ah good work Ash he’s up there then you got Peter Bartlett You’ got Craig Mason in the Tony brand truck uh Troy eting will

Be Jason Jason little and then you’ve got um Keith not Jason little Jason Lincoln Lyndon and you’ve got Keith Wilson in The Conor eating truck number 12 so I’ll will actually go and give those um names and numbers to the team from Pitts TV because that’s just the unique part of

The flying farewell with the Napper NZ super trucks there you go Paul what do you think yeah know like I say it’s going to be a good weekend it’s just hoping the attrition rate keeps all the trucks on the track I think last year we didn’t lose a truck all weekend so he’s

Hoping fingers crossed same again this year thanks very much good on you boys so uh we’ll be back with that opening race to see how these big rigs go the battle of the big rigs oh look at old Ash she’s taking a bit of a shortcut

There the good thing is they’re all out in the B they’re all coming back into Pet Lane and so there’s uh not too many dramas so hopefully we can turn on four great races over the weekend because she’s going to be hot stuff certainly is thank you very much Clint brand we’ll

Catch up with you later on for race one of the weekend for the Nappa super trucks looking forward to that as we get all the safety Vehicles back out onto the track with all the Hilton h p finger lifters Mr two pies so getting set for the first race

Of the race weekend here at lils Raceway for the trust AI super trucks it’s going to be the Oscars looking forward to this one eight lap race and a local man on Pole Position from what I can gather don’t to just trying to bring them up now the results are qualifying for the

Oscars now I won’t be a local man that’s for the SS cup I’m talking about so the Oscars it’s going to be Steve Ross on the pole position and the big TransAm Jaguar all the way from Denon the car number five followed by cam Jones these

Two only 0 one of a second between first and second so it’s going to be very good up there good race between them of course it’s the old TransAm from way back that bit of a classic now the Trans Ams Brendan certainly are we used to have a big TransAm field travel through

The summer Motor Racing Series in the south island so the cars were running uh running the same space frame chassis and either running a General Motors or Ford V8 and they had the option of many body styles generally the Camaro or the Mustang was favored but because Ford and

Jaguar were in bed together for a while you can also run the Jaguar body so Steve Ross is on pole in a Jaguar which I must say is quite close to the my heart I’m a member of the uh local South can Jaguar owners Club you’re the

President aren’t you I am the president currently of the South can Jaguar owners Club so good to see a shaguar on P1 yeah P2 cam Jones he’s the man to watch though they very very rapid RX7 third fastest was cam Davies great effort for him all the way from wmy and another RX

Or an RX8 with the V8 powered RX8 and fourth fastest was Simon Barry and another RX7 so featuring quite prominently again in the Oscars of the rx7s but a wide variety of cars there as well P NE older TransAm Mustang he’ll be in car number 58 and quite a few Honda Civics here

Jordan Ray another one to watch car 61 Terrence Phillips 96 so it’s going to be a pretty good good race and of course another local Man car number 29 Matt Dunn and is a little too out of coroller he’s been campaigning for a number of years yes those that live locally will

Obviously know the dun family Alan Dunn head of the been a car racer and car builder for many many years I remember when I was very young Alan dun had a Helman imp with a K series Toyota motor in the back which was a bit of a thing in its day

Hard to believe also uh they had a toy truno for a while which they had a 2J super motor in it made it rear whe Drive was very quick in the Oscar class and also other saloon car racing classes in it day but we’ve got Matt done there out

At the moment in the DX Cora that’s had a little bit of a horsepower injection very quick little machine looks like we’ve got a few NZ Sixers joining the Oscar super saloons oh that as well first word of Oscar is open so right they do get a good selection oh what’s

That sexy little red machine going out there car 15 low Lise or something looking very similar to that lus at least not on the entry list Brendon so obviously got his HRI and nice so we might have more than 210 entries this weekend if we’ve got a

Couple of cars that land on the program but great to see a huge variety of Motorcars out running in the Oscar field car number 5 95 at the Jimmy Linberg this is his new car the nisson 350 Z that he’s spent a lot of time building reckons that he’s built about

Eight cars you reckon this will be his last but well just the last for now do you think last for now of course he’s got his wife and daughter racing in the SC cup class as well so you see some Lindberg there as well other cars that Dad has built no

Wonder they’ve just built a a huge Workshop down at uh the farm just uh just out of Timaru or do they manage to squeeze a bit of farming in you know in the car racing season well we don’t know about Jimmy but there’s certainly other

People doing it for him as we see Steve Ross coming up now to P1 position got that beautiful big leap Jag on the side of the car there Paul yes he’s he’s doing quite good in this car Steve he owns a number of cars he’s got one of

The ex Oscar cars Rod canard’s old Mark fortina used to be the in the purple and silver colors one of my favorite alltime cars he’s got that sitting in the shed he’s got some 5000s no doubt he his Road car is a Ferrari and no doubt he’s got

Some other toys tucked away too Steve Ross a very uh dedicated Motorsport man did you say I think he has the Motorsport and petrol head a flection quite bad by the sound of it there Paul I would think so looking forward to some action there

With the uh the Jag in the number one car of Cam Jones on the front row of the grid right so cam Jones of course it’s a rolling start so going to be interesting off that start line with um the pair of the V8 versus the rotary when the power goes down cam

Davies here car full 47 great starting position for him on the second row and beside him Simon Barry car number 135 the M 10 trade RX7 Gary Duncan from tamuka down there two car 26 starting on about row five row four Brian Scott Pi NE that older Mustang we

Were talking about P’s had this car for a number of years before he that he had a threee looks like we’re missing someone off um the fifth row of the grid there beside Matt Dunn then so in 10th we should have Alan Turner in the 146 car so no sign of ell Turner

There so mistake for him so 10 laps for the Oscars rolling start they’ll follow the Jackson’s transport safety UT around so big thank you to kimok Kumo ties for bringing the Oscars here this weekend for the Super Truck meet so not too sure got one of the

Quads on the track just up there doing a bit of a check but they’re letting them away now for their warm-up lap first race of the weekend for the Oscars car number 91 there the 24 red racing Honda Civic there of Andrew Gibson good to see gabo back out there

On the track had a bit of a misfire yesterday but um he’s double running that car also in the SS cup there’s no doubt quite a few of these cars are being double run see few of the NZ sixs out there as well getting their money’s worth interesting to see how the speeds

Go compared to qualifying yesterday there was only a 100th of a second in the qualifying times between Steve Ross and cam Jones they were the class of qualifying everyone else 2 seconds or so back behind our front row starters as Paul mentioned be interesting to see how the

Rotary turbo goes compared to the V8 when the green light goes on and the action and shoes so huge field for the Oscars they were down on the numbers here like most classes were over the last couple of years good to see them bouncing back though they had a anniversary was it a

50th anniversary for them recently you know in the last couple of years Po and they did a good job at getting a lot of the other competitors back out onto the grid that had been parked up for a while there’s also a number of new cars in the

Field so lights out on the safety truck as they come into the Carters evaluation here Steve Ross this is your poll sitter cam Jones here in second look at cam Davies trying to stay right on the back putting a wee bit of pressure before this is before the start so they’re

Getting ready safety truck is in they’ll gets peered up as they come through the Kink and wait for the lights to go out hopefully the Stars happy in we’re away heading down across the stripe now down at the parano for the first time it’s going to be Steve Ross who leads

Him through side by side there is um oh getting out of shape as the third car cam Davies I think was he’s taking the the wide line and down the back straight for the first time look at this battle it’s cam Jones going to put a bit of pressure on

To Steve Ross bit of a gap already back to the mod mod trade car and then it’s back to just see someone diving up the inside there who was that that’s Pan the big mustang up to fourth place as they hit up round through the mcka curve and cam

Davies uh sorry JN is closed right up on the back of Steve Ross as they go up round through the mckiss curve through the wi right hand Kink and into the C’s valuation hereen Steve Ross is going to lead first lap opened up bit of a gap

Already back to the third place car the RX7 what can Jones do early on the race but he wants to keep the pressure on he might try and have a we look around through the K he’s eyeing him up have a look down the inside as they go into the

Breaking Zone but not close enough cam Jones he’s decided to just keep the pre on Steve Ross and to see how he goes left and right he’s loing as they go into martiall transport sweeper bit of a gap back to third place car which is Cam Davies then it’s Simon

Barry so already these front two opened it out good G battle going on P coming back at Davies the big mustang got too much in a straight line for the RX8 and then Brian Scott’s tucked on the back and then he comes back at them under breakes does Davies gets that

Third spot back some great stuff there or fourth place back so it’s Steve Ross from cam Jones just the one1 between them then it’s Barry NE Davies and Scots your top five as you look back down through the field a little bit and they starting to spread themselves out down

Towards the back there the NZ Sixers so race leaders through the leftand sweeper coming down towards the Kinks same again just starting to close as Jones as they come down onto the front straight but not close enough you’ll have a sniff again but he’s uh

He’s on the inside so it’s not the best line to be on into there he’s just biting his time as Jones well the cam Jones car pull is all over the back of that TransAm obviously a lot lighter more Nimble in the tighter parts of the circuit it just appears that Steve Ross

Has the torque out of the corner and can just pull a car length or two heading off down the back straight which cam Jones closes in again at the end good pass there too from Kellum stalker on the Roberts car he’s up another spot further back

So out the front it’s still Steve Ross from Jones then Barry then Davies we got a Porsche passing for position there Paul R the top part of the circuit going to the mckisic curve leaders back in the ha Steve Ross under all sorts of pressure from Jones through the left-handed sweeper

That’s about a 2 second odd Gap back to bit more than that back to third place just got a good enough gap down the front straight there there’s no way that cam Jones is going to get Ross from there then it’s back to this third and fourth place

Battle it’s still Barry over Davies opened up a bit of a gap back to to Scott who’s now managed to drop p a little bit then it’s Gary Duncan in seventh and it’s back to Matt dun in that very quick we Corolla he’s got to Phillips Terry Phillips right behind him

Then Jordan Raves ran out the top 10 at present still the battle ragers out in the front though Steve Ross in that Jaguar of course we’ve seen a couple of jagu bodied um cars over the years in the TransAm Andrew forcet ran one and uh also two Mark Porter got the oric 7

Slowing down the back stke that’s the 744 car so troubles for him and that’s Kellum Stalker Kellum in the RX7 from won but still Jones setting a couple car back from the Steve Ross Jag as they come across the stripe once again no we near close enough this time closes up under brakes but you got to be right on the

Tail of Steve Ross there at the end of the front straight if he wants to get through as a hit up into the Marshall sweeper which was always been known as the Castrol sweeper but now it’s been renamed Marshall sweeper uh sweeper so just Steve Ross using the

Torque of That Jag to get out onto the back straight c car although we’ve got some lap traffic coming up Paul yeah Callum stalker there is pulled into the infield so that’s race over for him so may not be too long before we see these front two starting to catch some

Of these in sixes and the likes of at the back oh we got a car off at the top there Paul with a bent front end one of the nz6 cars Blue Falcon car have 22 by the looks of it and that’s Cody Welsh of course Cody’s one of the top in six

Drivers so hopefully he hasn’t got too much damage he’s pretty lucky but he might have gone in that wall there looks like he might just missed the sand trap up the top end there that’s up through well we might have a change of position we’ve got the RX7 just trying on the

Inside of Steve Ross there no doesn’t pull it off though the slap traffic might provide some assistance for him Ross trying to trying to look left and right see what’s going on I’m not too sure they haven’t safety car borders out so safety car car is coming out that’ll

Be for Cody Welsh up on the top and that was very close there from Steve Ross and cam Jones they got past one of those nz6 but um safety car lights are flashing they should should see that now down the top end of the Track although we do have that Falcon now slowly making its way back into the pits poool right so coming in under its own steam which is good to see hope them can uh rough out the bumps and we’ll get to see that car racing its class a little later on

Today oh got another car with trouble coming into the pits Honda cific smoke yeah Gibby yeah maybe another gear box he’s known for his gear boxes as Gibby so um either way it’s bad luck for him we’ve also lost cam Jones he’s dropped off the

Back of the St Ross Jaguar yeah well not too sure what’s going on there either too cuz safety car conditions so you shouldn’t be passing anyone should be all forming up behind one another but he’s dropped way back from Steve Ross coming through um whether Steve hasn’t seen the

The lights or not he’s still going pretty quick in a straight line as he heads down towards where the safety truck is we’ll just keep an eye on this maybe he’s seeing the lights now that’s probably the reason why I would say so just that one car that’s off in the

Middle of the field here Callum stalker who was putting a bit of pressure on earlier on back there in the fourth and fifth place is parked her up down on the old part of the track so now it’s going to be a bit of a job we got another car

Coming in there too to the pits Gary Duncan it looks like and he’s pulling it out the back so it’s bad luck for Gary and the number 26 car another one of the lat entries in Gary Duncan think he former series champ to Gary from few years

Ago so the safety Utes picked up the lead car which is number five Steve Ross the man in P2 is in the liquid Molly number one which is cim Jones and there’s a couple of cars in between slower cars hopefully they might get a

Bit of a wave around and we go back to third place at the moment there’s still Simon Barry showing at the moment there Paul Simon Barry from cam Davies so Simon Barry in the master RX7 from paliston North shows is P3 so yellow flag caused by one of the

Ed Sixers that went off up the top managed to get back to the pit so there’s no no recovery as such so we should be back racing as soon as this Ute comes back around the Jackson transport safety Ute so of course all these laps under the safety car Camp

P certainly do doesn’t play into Cam Jones’s hands too much no it doesn’t give him the opportunity to find a passing opportunity Yep so we have that stricken RX 7 coming in on a rope at the moment the racing is pretty much halted as everyone follows the safety car well they should have left that Eric s there till the end of the race I would have thought br rather than Mr T here

Tow it back and uh it’s going to cost him another lap under the safety car I would say as the safety truck just comes past where you’ll see uh two p park there ready to tow them the mezda back in they could have left that and gone green again

Now it looks like the um checked flag’s coming out so that’s the way it’s going to end is under yellow Steve Ross is going to take the race win from cam Jones then it’s going to be Barry then Davies Brian Scott’s going to be in the fifth spot P six Jimmy Linberg great

Start from him seventh Matt D eth Terry Phillips 9th and Jordan Ray rounds out the top 10 here we go there so race one ending under yellow and there’s the rest of them there Gary Duncan may get classified as finishing the race but uh a d for

Him so hopefully those cars that had a little technical malade might be able to address whatever issue they had and get them back out onto the grid for the next race for the Oscar field supported by Kuma ties so very short amount of entertainment there yeah just the race

Highlights there obviously um Good Start From the the top two didn’t really do anything wrong it’s all the way they stayed and um we just have a look and see what did happen to Cody Welsh perhaps but had that big lose up there atet curve I’m very lucky to not get in

The wall that the up the top end through there Brendon through the series of left-handers there that’s not much runoff before you hit the wall up there so yeah no the the Wall’s very close and uninviting at that part of the circuit looped it around and Tagg the wall when

He saw the front of his Falcon but he was able to drive it back in so hopefully there’s no damage Under the Skin and it’s just cosmetic and they can uh straighten it out a little bit maybe use a little bit of duct tape and have that car fighting foot out

On the circuit once again today so as they tow the Oscar field survivors and the other cars come back into the pit area will’ll be waiting for the New Zealand formula Fords to hit the circuit for a 10lp grid race formula fors qualified yesterday I will pass over to Mr Shane Drake welcome

Shane give him a minute Bron get his gear on thank you very much so Mr Shane Gray welcome back to the levels Raceway I mean you’re normally here at most meetings anyway but welcome back how’s how’s things down there at the moment with these these young Lads down there I

Think there’ll be a little bit of um nerves little little bit of uh tension building there’s um not much space between the the top 10 cars so uh I think we’re in for a bit of a treat to to find our future Champions so take a

Look out there shortly see if you can find yourself a favorite and one day you might hear it uh in supercars or indie car or Formula 1 so this is where they start yeah we talked about that this morning didn’t we um for the for the

Intro to the show but a lot of these young guys um overseas at the moment Racing for us uh all around the world different classes they all start here in the formula forwards some of these young guys here Seb Manson’s one of them we we said it’s a different day for Seb today

First day hasn’t been on qualified on poll it is and uh he has won 12 out of the 13 races that he started this season uh and he’s been on Poll for um four of those four of those race meetings all all weekend so he is quick but um and he

Was the man to beat yesterday uh on form but will Neil pulled an amazing lap out and uh there’s also a whole lot of others uh right behind him Blake NES uh rookie Isaac Fletcher fantastic performance by by him in his first ever season of Formula Ford so um and there’s

A lot more further back as well that um have have a chance blinko from the North Island Dylan Grant current North Island champion um the list goes on the list goes on Simon Hunter Mason Potter Dylan pitch and the newly acquired Liam SKS stealth yep Jack Noble Adams Daniel

Kelly Caleb buers is another one who might not have been right at the front yesterday but um he was very good in testing and then of course we got our class two guys uh Jacob K the local man from Jing Cameron tenner uh Auckland now living in reciting Christ

Church and of course Cameron Freeman from dened so and then we’ve got our South Island guys yes yes great name here Jackie big yes yes good to hear that name back he was here um a couple of months ago yep and he’s I remember looking at the Times Paul and uh I’m

Looking at the times today and he’s improved he’s improved hell of a lot right so we also have our um CEO of Motorsport New Zealand in the blue 99 Spectrum having a taste of formula for Alton’s uh used to race these cars raced in Europe and uh this is his actually

First time racing around Timaru so right sort of equated it to running a marathon around a clothes line so but not so much on these cars but certainly in a big thundering V8 like an Oscar or a muscle car yep so through qualifying she was pretty tight a second covering

The top 10 11 cars yep yep exactly a second um probably not R resented of of of actually how close it is because a lot of these guys work off a toe to get a time and Will Neil did get a toe gave him that extra 210 that that

He qualified on pole I don’t think many others got it so um you know this is just to get your position on the grid how does it how does it normally work like they working they peered up working together or some of them do some of them

Do but otherwise you just got to find um find a mug or um just fluke it you know um but most of these front guys actually get out of the way when they see someone following them and uh and you know so they so they don’t get the toe you know

They’ll they’ll suddenly pull to the left and break or um you know but not not um impeding the other gu is is very crucial not impeding but not helping so there’s a fine line and um you know thankfully yesterday we got uh we got through it with um no

Discrepancies on the track of blocking or deliberately slowing people down but the this is a tactical category so you do sometimes have that have that happen so a fair bit of that checking goes on uh yeah well I mean someone will um you know yell and scream quite quickly if

They feel that they’ve you know been hard done by but none of that happened so um you know great for us very good it’s good to see the numbers back again isn’t it getting quite thin there well not as much as the New Zealand series but um certainly the South Island series

Was getting quite thin there at some stage oh I think both of our series uh and the North Island and the South Island are just a little bit thin but it is actually we didn’t expect to have this level uh of of field all this number of of field look at these guys

Lining up fantastic um and and all of a sudden everyone come together and look it’s it’s we’re not in an easy world at the moment you know MoneyWise money is is tough so um it’s nice to see that these guys have um committed to the category

Like I said some of these guys will have big aspirations so a lot of them have plan in place like what they’re going to do the rest of the year maybe after this uh some of them certainly will have a plan others will develop as as time goes on

But um it’s it’s clearly one of those horrible old things that revolves around do pool so um that’s right otherwise we’d all be doing it yeah yep yep be too easy yeah if we can fit into these things these days they’re pretty skinny now aren’t they compared to the old

Bathtubs of Wayback yep right looks like we’re getting ready for the start of the race in the front row There Will Neil and SE Manson in the 69 car like you say he might be too happy didn’t qualify on that P1 as we’re waiting for the lights and away they go

A good start from pretty much everybody as they head to said Manson comes across and it’s going to lead them through to panko we’ve seen it over the years um dry P2 is the best place to be on and that’s work for see Manson well Neil actually got the start but Manson

Managed to put the power down later on so this wasn’t part of the plan for Will Neil but he’ll jump in behind and the biggest thing that these guys have got to do is stay together as close as they can if they want to if they want a

Chance here’s Dylan Grant having a go on Isaac Fletcher down the outside and the Napper Auto Parts van demon down into the Jon Jones breaking Zone there and normally that outside line suits but it hasn’t paid off for him in that stance didn’t pull that move off but

He’s gone up the inside Fletcher so Grant into P4 Will Neil over the back of Manson y it’s going to be good battle between these three at the front into the C’s valuation happen for the first time s Manson leads in the 69 car and it’s Will Neil tucked in behind Blake

NOS through the left-handed sweeper down towards the K they’ve spread out a car the two they look pretty safe at the moment nothing’s going to change at the front drakey as they head down menson got a great run out of the final turn pool Dylan Grant there sitting in fourth

Place just starting to drop back off these the top three when I say drop back off it’s couple more car lengths there yeah what he’ll be hoping for now is that will Neil pulls up on the back of Manson makes him go a little bit

Defensive and only take a half a lap or so for for Grant to to uh pull that Gap in as NOS has a go on Neil down the end of the back straight side by side still side by side he’s got an overlap he a

Small overlap in the in the dirt he goes but I think we still have the the spot these guys actually have to be a little bit smart and work together here and maybe uh just just go he for leather for maybe four or five laps so that the Gap

Doesn’t increase from 1 to two so it’s Manson into the haen again with that dust still being kicked up there by some of the others with wellne up to the second place now from NOS bit of a gap back to Grant then Fletcher Bryant at the 77

Car he’s doing a great job in that car he’s C come original scholarship participant for South Island Formula Ford here’s Mason Potter up the inside of buyers into one yeah job done great great job there Potter yep Potter didn’t have a great um qualifying performance so his next victim will be Caleb

Buers uh Bryant actually yep Bryant so just starting to open up that lead out in the front now s Manson just out over half a second of the as these two battling behind Will Neil and Blake NOS battling away there normally that’s what happens is it drakey you get a

Battle going on and allows someone to creep away yep Simon Hunter who started from the rear just gone around two people down the back straight so he’s on a bit of a charge so s Manson back into the Heen you see that the two have caught him

Back up again though they have the only thing here is that Manson gets a very good run out of these two uh two corners out of the here and then the right uh the um left-hander but will certainly closed it down he only needs to get another sort of 15 M

Up the road and Manson’s going to have to think about changing direction to uh to break the draft three power and K they go up towards the Marshall sweeper still stus Co out in front with Bryant putting some pressure on the back of oh sorry NOS putting some pressure on the back and

Neil will he get a toe down the back straight this time he’s looking like he might y he’s a he’s got a good one and I don’t think will Neils fought him to be honest maybe he said like you have a go mate no he’s pulled back in and they’re

Right behind Manson now that’s right so this is where the uh South Island Boys seem to have a little bit of time on Manson is up through that the end of the front straight across the across the back yep 4 5 six then through seven now into

Turn eight Hein look at this he throw CL over the three of them yep so if Manson doesn’t get the best run out of here he’s going to have to think about uh narrowing the corner up here into turn1 it’s probably got about a 10 m Gap

Not enough but you blink in this game and you lose a spot that’s right yeah but no we near close enough as they head into the power and coers still line of steering those top three nles keeping a Neil on us though keeping those mirrors

Full so how would you like to be in the sandwich you’re trying to attack front and you’re getting getting attack from behind as well yeah it’s hardw now Will Neil is closest he has ever been in the race so far here he goes he’s got a bit

Of a toe going on Manson’s going to have to go left does he yes he does Will Neil goes to the outside they’ll go cyber side but I don’t think he’s got enough to go around there Neil will cut it down low and try and cut back he has a look

Manson’s gone defensive he knows it’s on he’s come across in front of him didn’t he as they headed up towards kisser curve and this has allowed NOS to stick onto the back of them still a three car battle let’s see how long it takes Dylan

Grant to to shut this gap down if we go further back Potter now behind Bryant barers blinko Hunter Dan cell pitch good battles all the way down through the field as these top three still going hammer and tongs but none of them are close enough to force any sort

Of move as they come through the Kink down on the front straight and You’ got Grant sitting there in a lonely fourth place at the moment he’s neither here nor there but sitting fourth at the moment from Fletcher he’s doing a great job there in fifth place now potten now

Up to six from 10th so been a good race for young Potter so far as well in the 93 car just going to wander back through the field pool as we go through t one and two camon Freeman leading Class 2 Jacob kff coming past our commentary

Position in a bit of trouble Cameron Tanner in P2 at the moment pretty much line of a Stern for the rest of the field some of the older cars down towards the back class two cars look it’s a it’s a hard place to get past but um I think if we wind the

Clock back to the last time they raced here the two the guys in first and second come together and around around the back of that area I wasn’t here but um that was the only race that Manson hasn’t won so he’ll be well aware of maybe the error

That he made last time and sure he won’t want to want to make it happen again this is round one of the Nappa Auto Part New Zealand formula 4 Championship three more rounds to go after this 14 races a long long way to go Dylan Grant in that fourth place is

Slowly catching these three at the front he got the 3/10 of a second last lap on these top three so very shortly there might be a fourcc car battle going on four laps to go and once again we see a bit of attack down there towards Jon Jones Steel NOS having a look

Yeah Potter into um sixth position he passed Bryant Fletch is next on the list but a a big gap here these guys are right round the back it’s nose to toil I reckon Manson will probably just be slowing them up a little bit to to do everything at his

Pace but he’s got to be careful that um one of these guys doesn’t have a go these two boys in second and third uh are pretty good mates and they race very well together so they’ll just probably give each other this space they need to to be both in a position to

Attack so NOS is in in a bit of a spot now to have a look at will Neils they come down towards p as he comes across his no way manages to hang on to it still status quo between those three Grant now another couple of tents closer

From that fourth spot yeah something happened uh between 1 and three the Gap has opened up I think Will Neil might have made a little error now NOS is over and this will be timed to to actually um attack look how close those wheels are together the front left and the rear

Left uh rear right it’s going to be tough for NOS oh he’s going he’s going around the outside he’s he’s he’s done it what a move around the outside had two wheels out and the dirt as well yeah only just I mean it’s very difficult to

Get two cars around there well Neil goes back up the inside he what a spot what a pass but in the meantime Manson’s got enough breathing space and Dylan should be boying into this as well as KES comes into the pit Lane smoke coming out of

The back of that car did have a problem with a h gasket yesterday so maybe it’s a little bit more terminal but of smoke like that doesn’t look too good so he’s in Jacob kov bad luck cameraman doing a great job here in front of us blowing blowing around oh

Stephan yeah he’s going down meanwhile uh first three guys have just lapped Keith Miller from the North Island Here Comes Dylan Grant he’ll get a nice little toe of him I think these guys will probably find it about position where they are on the track now

If at your top end of the track they uh come off the embankment they’ll be getting a decent old shove from the wind and uh these cars do move around quite easily when the in uh with the wind and Direction change but it’s all Manson yeah that that battle between those two

The two passes is just given him the breathing room that he was after even though it’s only three or four car lengths that’s it that’s all you need though all you need it’s all you need Paul especially when someone’s breathing down your neck um you know like Blake

Noers yep and no’s knowing near close enough this time to force any sort of move onto will nil last lap borders out so it’s the last lap let’s see if NOS can do something about Neil now as they go up through the martiall transport sweeper you will want a good toe down

The back straight and try and repeat what happened a couple laps ago yeah look he’s he’s in the prime position he’s nice and close yep it’s exactly what you need to do Neil goes to the inside got to make NOS go I think NOS has actually got a very good run he

Might get this done a little bit easier than last time but they’re going to go in there locked and locked side by side question is will NOS live here he’s easily on the track not enough not enough no so I think you’ll find that that that position might just settle

Itself that’ll be it that was his one chance wasn’t it as it is yeah these hot conditions also with these uh with the Yokohama Tire probably things getting a little bit greasy right about now there’s NOS poking his nose just slightly into the back of Will Neil at the

Hapin here we go SE Manson in the 69 card will come through and take race one win for the Nappa Auto parts formula forward and continues what has been a great season for him so far but takes the maximum points for race one uh Neil will be second then NOS

Grant Fletcher will come through in fifth and a great drive two from Mason Potter up to sixth from qualifying 10th Jake Bryant behind him the first Sith competitor so that’s a fantastic effort his car caught fire yesterday so they managed to patch that up quite well after that so there’s your top 10 there Seb Manson well Neil Blake NOS Dylan Grant Isaac Fletcher Mason Potter Jake Bryant Simon Hunter Zack blinko and

Caleb buers great drive from Caleb as well rounds out the top 10 and looking down through there Dylan pit in 12th and Jack dble Adams another one who I thought might have been up closer to the point end the field in 15th and rounding out the field there Elton goonan by the

Looks of it Jack Noble Adams actually had an engine change last night so you know just wonder whether or not things aren’t quite quite right there right well thanks very much drakey that’s the uh the formula forwards done race one good on you putting on a good

Show thanks Mark and um we’ll welcome in B1 and B2 again and I’ll go and try and Chase s banson down and see what his thoughts were on the race For W Me All right B1 here B2 beside me to entertain you for the next field out which is the Goodyear Auto Care SS cup field do have a couple of public service announcements though for those of you that are at the circuit enjoying the motor racing um at the South End of the

Pits in in the club rooms we have free face painting I don’t know if there’s an age restriction on that I did not get all the information so if you’re a 50 and want your face painted maybe turn up probably is more aimed at the younger Motorsport Enthusiast out here today but

Most importantly those that came in the gate and got a winner ride in a race car this I’m afraid is restricted to the Motorsport Enthusiast that are between the age of 8 and 15 you need to get your entry form in to the box at the secretary’s office before 12:00 so if

You want to win a ride in a race car and there’s 10 lucky kids that are going to win this if they’re aged 8 to 15 you must get your entry in to the box in the secretary’s office and that is just at the South fence in the pit area and you

Must have your entry in before 12:00 there are extra entry forms there kids so if you’re aged between 8 and 12 and don’t have an entry form yet Trot on over to the secretary’s office Badge of them get an entry form get your name and

Details on it and get it in the box and you could be one of the lucky 10 going for a lap or two around level’s Raceway in a real race car during our lunch break today that will be something quite good I’m I’m a bit disappointed that

They you know the discriminatory I I I I could identify as 15 do you think B2 do you think they’ll let me away with that to the lest you think that’s right I identify as a 15year old today so I can go for a rideing the race car at

Lunchtime well sense of humor wise anyway yes that’s right M my my wife will tell you maturity is probably at that level sometimes but anyway coming out onto the circuit now we have the goodye Auto Care SS cup field so large field today we’ve got 36 uh cars on the

Grid uh which is fantastic to see um so just a little overview of of these cars um they are modified cars and they they kind of fit somewhere between the the 2K cup and the Oscar Series so sort of a a middle ground if you will between those

Um but there are also breakout limits um and um so yeah there and there are three classes within the race as well so the a classes they can’t go any faster than a minute 9 B Class can’t go any faster than a minute 11 and the C Class cannot

Go uh any faster than a minute 16 so you get good racing amongst the field but with those limits there’s no point getting your checkbook out and trying to make your car go a whole lot faster because there’s not a lot of point no absolutely not no so stay

Within your breakout class it’s also very open that you’ll see there’s a variety of cars out there some X 2K cup cars that have been modified to go a little bit faster of course um I’m camping with Camp CD down there the number 900 car Chopper Stevenson in the

Staran which is sporting a freshly rebuilt FJ 20 motor with uh local Motorsport Legend Trevor ped there I can see him down in front of me keeping an eye thumbs up giving us a wave he’ll be waiting hoping for good things out of Cho and Stevenson in the

Fj20 okay we’re just crossing now to a quick interview s Manson from the Formula Ford register okay thanks guys are down here with s Manson the winner of the race one for the Nea auto parts formula forward s how was the race from your point of view

Yeah it was a good race uh got the early jump and then yeah it was just uh just maintaining the lead and just sort of looking after it from there bit of early pressure coming from um Neil and Nos and and behind but uh towards the end of the

Race there though having a bit of a battle gave you a bit of breathing space yeah yeah so the end I think well missed a gear and ended up giving me a bit of a space for the end of the end of the race here so it’s been a pretty good um year

For you so far far um obviously eyes forward for the championship yeah definitely definitely well congratulations s we look forward to meeting you again hopefully you win race too thank you cheers s Manson thanks Paul and thanks s congratulations on your race win as we wait for the final cars just

To set their grid positions so we’ve got a we bit of a gap on the front row of the grid there B2 who’s supposed to be sitting in P2 Andrew Gibson so he had Gibby had that trouble earlier on all right so they’re off on the formation lap way they

Go so as you said huge range of cars in here anything from you got a A little datson 1200 out there from the 1970s through to much more modern cars so yeah Brent Finley there the datson 1200 Coupe normally gives that a good spanking around the circuit in the classic car field

Yeah but there we’ve got the uh 188 car trying to give the PO setting Commodore a bit of a carry up as they head down the back straight into Jon Jones still still Commodore leaving them through the Jon Jones going into the tighter part of the circuit now into the mckisic

Curve named after jald mckisic local Motorsport identity that was one of the founding members that got the circuit underway and was Clerk of the course here for many many years is as I was growing up still have the field leading onto the front straight Pitter pulling out a good lead now as he

Crosses the line at the end of the first lab 751 C goes across the line that’s Gerald harves and the torter altezza from just up the road in Winchester so at this point in time it’s Mike gold leading the way as Brendan mentioned followed by Richard Simpson Gerald

Hargraves Josh Ward Greg Wilson and Chopper Stevenson in the black Starion okay Steve Parker there in the GT86 MTF Finance proprietor there in the 129 car sitting in p7 good mixture of cars on this field we’ve got that 280Z going around the circuit now Jason

Cy from dened that car knows its own way around the circuit previously pedal by his father probably just about close your eyes and the datson would find its own way around nice to see that little Mark to Escort getting around there too the number seven pretty cool little car

Don’t see too many of those on the track these days so Jong Ling from denen pedling the escort yeah but it’s sto there Mike gold dominating in the Holden commodor as he comes across the line at the end of lap two pretty big gaps between those first four

All opened out a space for themselves all bit lonely at the moment so getting a little bit more interesting there with Warden Wilson in The 216 and 23 car Greg Wilson pedling the M RX8 a lot of these cars of course have come from the Mazda racing series The

Getting another crack at the circuit fastest lap of the race so far Gerald harra 1 minute 10 we’ve got the oh the little I put the commentator’s curse on him the put the markers on him Bron the little number seven Mark to escort Sean Ling just going slowly down the front

Straight in the 07 car us to mobile which is good so if he has a problem he can hopefully get himself into a position where he’s not a danger to anyone else on the circuit and yeah we can keep the motor racing underway as Mike gold leads them into the cat

Evaluation here pin once again still got the Simpson car sitting in second and Gerald hard Graves as B2 mentioned was fastest car so far sitting in P3 making most of the clear air so little escort has parked himself behind the tie wall down at the Marshall transport sweeper so the racing can carry

On all right so we have someone there got the 158 car just trying to give Steve Parker a bit of a carry up as they come down the end of the front straight so Mike Gul doing quite well at the moment had a 1.6 second lead as he

Crossed the tape last time round now heads off into Jon Jones Steel just got Cory Ashworth there in the Toyota Sak from ash Burton crossing the line going through the p and CO’s little Cora FX GT just losing a bit of traction down pathway around uh Marshall transport sweeper

Smart looking little car that is number eight Chris Buckley from arot toown back in the day there was a few boy M Racers my age that were sporting around town in one of those lovely little FX GTS just about a classic now they are a classic now the 4 AG Toyota engines but

It is Mike gold that is dominating at the moment in that Heartland Suzuki Commodore had a 1.6 second lead as he crossed the stripe last time Gerald hard Graves has made up another place there and set another fastest lap so he’s positioned himself up into second so

He’s got a long way to catch up with Mike gold mind you yeah so 2.7 seconds up the road is Mike gold so that’s a fair bit of work for Gerald to do making the most of it though getting that car up to speed just got the 77 car there that

Is Michael dver from in the Honda Pacific from Christ Church just crossing the Line as the rest of the field who ID there in the 24 car another local lead he’s sitting in 10th position in the mesar ex8 so still Mike gold leading Gerald Hargraves out of the C cut evaluation hereen coming down onto the front straight once again at a 2.7 second lead

As he crossed the line last time let’s see what’s happened on this SL jald Hargraves is slowly eing out a gap over the 188 car behind him so 3.3 second lead now for Mr Mike gold in that very fast moving Comer at the sharp end of the

Field oh we’ve got the 65 car the Honda Integra just pulling slowly coming into the circuit Steve Parker has had an incident in the GT86 looks like he’s uh no that wasn’t him that was the 26 Red Racing Integra it also come off at turn

Two so yellow flags out at this point in time local so three to go as they cross the line last time Mich Jared har Graves so it’s just Steve Parker that’s sitting at the end of turn two there right on the outside of the corner we can’t we can

Just see his roof over the top of the club rooms doesn’t look like that car is moving too far so it sounds like he may have had a bit of assistance uh in ending up in the position that he’s in at this point in time so possibly the other car involved in

That incident now just crossing the line the 348 car of Brent Finley the classic datson 1200 Coupe we were talking a little about earlier on so yellow flags are out that car is up and moving again which is good to see so it’s probably worth mentioning Brendan that there’s um there are five

Um female drivers in this class which is pretty cool to see um Carmen Lindberg Brenda Wilson Rebecca Lindberg um Belinda Hargraves and Haley mccon so very good to see some ladies involved in Motorsport of course there are a lot of them also involved on this side of

The pit wall yeah um we have a number of Volunteers in the South canaby Car Club the ladies of course there’s also race technicians and mechanics in the pits it’s a game the whole family can play last lap bought out now for Mike gold in that very rapid Holden

Commodore the Heartland Suzuki car there we go Chopper Stevenson crosses the line in the Starion he’s in sixth place at the moment in the fj20 Starion as they say Chopper is focusing this season on eating Kow drinking spring water and jogging in the morning so he’s race fit that might not be

Fully correct B of fake news anyway Mike gold leading the field just waiting for to cross the line all we’ve got that 280Z and the number 8 FX GT having a dice now as they head into the last lap as we mentioned the 280z does have a

Bit of an advantage that it knows its way around the circuit rather well been campaigned here for many many years autopilot yeah has the autopilot button see Mike gold just coming around the he pin round into the last couple of turns before the checker Flag and checked flag is out Mike gold takes the win going back to P2 Jared har Graves coming across the line now in the very rapid to altea and then Runing at the top three the 188 car Richard Simpson Richard Simpson good battle between those two

And P4 Greg Wilson P5 Josh Ward P6 Chopper in the Starion p7 Dave mclan p8 Eddie ARA nine Brent Finley and rounding at the top 10 we have James Black k b of action there in the SS Cup race supported by Goodyear autoare thank you very much goodye supporting the SS

Cup field once again all right that’s me for the moment I will P1 I will pass on over to P1 have pull back on Ear so some great stuff there from the SS cup up next though it’s the mainland muscle cars which uh would be one of my favorite classes of course lot of them are the big V8s eight laap race it’s going to be for them and starting off the pole position

We should see reys gold in the X Perkins Falcon the big V8 so um looking forward to this there a few local guys in in there as well Rod Heyman and the Pontiac Firebird which is a bit of a crowd favorite he’ll be in the car number 56 bit of a

Personal favorite of mine that one too Paul being a previous pontec Firebird owner back in the day oh here we go what is it it’s just you know yeah hugs at the heart yeah it does I can tell yes you didn’t tell us what car that was Brendon that I presume talking

About the Dwayne engley number 77 the Dodge Challenger oh that’s a that’s also a personal favorite oh you got another one now well now now owning a mopa you know yeah you know just just switch of legendss as a bit of a fence jumper yeah yeah why not why not but there’s some

Some fantastic Machinery in there too I seen Bruce Tinley here last Friday testing the Holden manaro and that sounds very strong at the moment too so be interesting to see how they all go but Big Field of cars Tony Johnson in there too from phy in these holding Commodore Ryan tenley’s running the

Number four car that’s the the tribute Holden Monaro the nor Beach he won I’ve just recently learned that car as a nickname Elvis Elvis Elvis I’m not sure how it got that nickname but uh apparently that’s it there’ll be a reason behind it Bron Mason and the Chevy moner car number

35 there’s a couple of them in the field actually count number 151 Mike Wallace and another Chevy monser qualified second so he’s going to be on the front row trying to wind up REO and then we’d go back to the second row just trying to read my own writing

Um Mark Scott he’s going to start off in fourth in number 70 the big Chevy Camaro so there’s lots of big cars for the uh petrol heads the Dodgers the shfs Fords the holding something there for everyone to support yeah of course Rod’s gone a bit different he’s gone the

Pontiac so like I said huge field of cars for the mobile one Mainland muscle cars big thanks to mobile one they’ve been supporting the mainland muscle cars for a few years now so that’s all good and congratulations to uh Mr Gold for winning the race just previous okay so we got bringen down

There now with Mike gold go all right B1 here with Mike gold winner of the SS Cup race and the very fast hland Suzuki MK gold what did you think of that that was fun that’s my first ever win in the car um so a credit

To my dad that built it and my wife for funding it um and everybody that supported me to get here I’m so grateful and that was the best fun I’ve ever had in the car in 5 years that was awesome so you turned the poll into a good win

The jeers were hunting you down but they just couldn’t get there at the end I was probably pretty lucky that gibby broke his car in the Oscar race so I had a spare spot beside me on the grid so I knew if I got the jump I didn’t have to

Worry about me and Gibby hitting each other in the first corner so it was great it was um pretty nervous pretty nervous on different tires I’m not used to so it was a we bit shaky but I got the job done so can’t be more happy so

How’s the rest of the weekend going to go you think Mike oh all the next three races for me handicap races so I’ll be coming from dead last in all of them and threading my way through the traffic so that’s probably more fun than it is

Fighting for a win to be honest how’s your racecraft you think your passing skills are up to speed yep yeah I um passed a lot of cars yesterday and qualifying I come from a motorcross background where if you get it wrong there you hit the ground so um bit of

Cting and finally getting a kraken and and T seal racing so I’m wrapped absolutely stoked congratulations on you when Mike we look forward to see you for the rest of the weekend great thank you very much and thanks to all my supporters all right back to you and the

Control tower thanks very much Brendan Mike gold down the very happy man indeed no doubt got quite a few people on the bank that know Mikey owns the local Suzuki dealership in Timaru and congratulations to him for I don’t know he’s had his trying times with this car

They’ve done lots of testing and had uh plenty of downsides but good to see he’s finally getting upside as we release the big f8 beasts out of the track out onto the track car number 151 Mike Wallace the first one out then it’s Johnny hitb and car number 52 then it’s car number

77 Dwayne engley and that Dodge Challenger we were just talking about car number 35 another one of the Chevy monsers Brendan Mason car 55 that’s Gary Morgan 16 Mike small and we got a big Falcon there the 351 which is a Michael bushel that is a genuine GT Falcon

Believe it or not is that right it is yep genuine GT 351 four-speed Falcon not often you’d see one of those on a racetrack no not not particularly so rest of them will come out car number 44 the G Gary Shaw running the pre-65 car in the mainland

Muscle cars probably see him a little bit later on again in the pre 65s but the huge field of these cars Tony Johnson coming out his commodore beautiful HDT Tana Coupe there yes and Ted him behind him a pul a re gold in the big red Ford Falcon the X Perkins car number

75 car number 18 another beautiful example of a car out there Hamish through in the big Chev Camaro as they uh they’ll come around a form up and behind the truck the Jackson transport Ute I should say Mike small there Mustang and that Falcon just weaving away there trying to warm the tires

Up Gary Morgan and car number 55 Rod Hyman Rod Heyman car number 56 apparently the legion know one here he uh before he brought the car out the track he brought the cows into the milking shed uh down the track and his Pac Firebird bit of a a loose cannon his

Rod count number one5 one there Mike Wallace nice to see the little 71 tyano out there of David King as well six-cylinder car that one actually one yep from the early’ 70s yeah we normally have a couple of three of them running in the class but uh he’s the Lone Wolf

Today he’s the Lone Wolf today that’s for real you see that big number 77 Dodge Challenger pull up onto the grid mean looking piece of kit that thing it is she’s a big weapon isn’t it Dwayne inly all the way from where is he from Queenstown so Rod Hyman he qualified

Pretty good up around the uh sixth B I think it was yeah he had that thing cranking last season so really stepped up and and really challenging all the lead guys in that car now keeping them mind anyway he’s going to have his hands full with hit bur in

Front of him although normally we see hit bur like the tires up off the off the line so he might get a clean run through there as Bruce Tinley pulls into p8 car number 29 that’s his new car that he’s well would to say new it’s a season

Of two old um and that thing was flying here um in practice last Friday so got a very strong engine back in that car as we wait for re gold to come up to the front row in car number 75 so they’re all big tanks really aren’t they Brendon there’s no real um

Smaller ones in there the x1’s probably the smallest car out there yeah looks like we’ve got one missing there as well in P4 as Mark Scott right so waiting on the lights and we’re away the lights are out pretty good start from everybody Bruce tinley’s lit the tires up a bit so

Bruce um so hymon but it’s going to be Wallace that leads him through the power and Co for the first time from Reese gold and then H burs in third place and we got the other Monza car number 35 tucked in the back as they come round through Marshall transport sweeper down

The back straight the first time let’s see what re skull can do on the Chevy mons are both pretty much evenly match for that top speed though as they head down to the breaking zone for the first time re gold has a we sniff up the

Inside but no way through for him so great stuff good good stuff from everybody perhaps except for Rod hymon and Bruce tley smoking the wheels a little bit was pretty good start as they head up round through the mckisic curve it’s still the5 one out in front Mike

Wallace and the Chevy monzer as they come into the haen for the first time gold tucked right in behind him then it’s HB then it’s Brendan Mason through the left-handed sweeper they go down through the king who’s going to be able to do it under the brakes at the

End of the front Straight No One by the looks of it no one’s close enough to force any sort of move and that’s lap one out of the way as they go into p and Co line of stern all of them bit of a gap back to engley who’s got Mike small

And then Tinley tucked him behind him so far though looks like all cars are still on track no incidents as the leaders go down the back straight again got the things wound up Mike Wallace and re SC of course driven all sorts of machinery over the

Years and there’s won plenty of races in this big Falcon as they head back up into the mckisic curve having a we sniff up the inside there of Wallace should still be a pretty wide Chevy Monza to try and sneak that Falcon up through as his head Burns right on

The back he’s looking for something to happen there into the haen again for lap two there you go still Wallace from gold hit burn bit of a gap back to Mason then you got Hyman tucked in the back there then a l Gap back to Dwayne engley so your top five all

Within a second or two of one another wall slowing down pretty re I thought reasonably um early down that front straight but he’s got gold all over the back him as they go round at the martial transport sweeper again what can hitb bur do now he’s pretty close onto the

Back of gold but you see the Falcon getting a away but twitch as he gets it out side by side looks like he might have the job done this time reschool is he Wallace comes back at him as they head down to the breaking Zone who’s

Going to break yeah W Wallace a bit later on the break so and allows him through so he’s gone up a spot looks like he bur’s going to get through as well up the inside and into the mckisic curve so hitb burs up to Second so Wallace back to third in

The space of a couple of corners and that first five is all bunched up again now Paul yes we’ got the Hyman on the of it now as well tucked him behind Mason so the top five all line of stern we should see ree gold pull away we bit

Here though now already opened up to about 6 or eight car leads back to hitb bir but hitb bur’s got clear air as well six laps to go for the mobile one Mainland muscle cars the top five where it’s at big gap back to engley then it’s

Tinley then small and then the car number 89 Matt Cory met all the way from denan Michael Eden and car number 165 and you see opening that Gap up already as it head is down towards Jon Jones Steel is resoed if anything the battle there is

Going to be hmon on the back of back end of that back end Mason good battles going on down through the pack two car number 18 just going through on Michael eeden in fastest lap of the race so far res scored not surprisingly 107 283 but

Johnny hitb bur 107 568 as well so the first five are all in the 107s just holy gone to that lead out in front at the moment gold he was just under a second uh between himself and hitb bur last time through looks like it’s opened up a little bit hit burs

Opened up a bit of a gap back to Wallace 1.3 seconds there Paul so you’re right we’ve got Bruce Tinley pulling off under the field infield up there in car number 29 so bit of bad luck there for Bruce I just put the the mockers on him as K was going

Good peps wee bit too hot for it car number 18 Hamish F going through as well he had a good pass on Michael Eden last time through and Tony Johnson having good battle towards the rear there with car number four or 04 I should say Colin Campbell

And 44 Gary Shaw just going through with his Ford Falcon just looking at car number 18 Paul he’s got a window hanging out the side of his car it’s it’s come out of the frame by the look of it on the um right hand side of the car should

We say we’ll keep an eye on that next time through but leaders out of the Heen again so four laps to go probably three laps This Time i’ Imagine for ree G he’s just opening out that lead a little more as you said before Paul yeah to 1 and

1/2 seconds now back to hurn then it’s Wallace and Mason Hayman’s been that way for a while and back to engley who’s out on his own in the sixth so we still got Mason all over the back of the other Monza the two Monas having a good battle

Together but it’s all reschool at the moment not much actually Rod Hyman can do from that fifth place he he’s getting on the back of Mason but not been able to do anything more at this stage so the lead is now dropping down into a 106 bracket that’s the first five so all

Sticking with each other car number 62 just going through the HQ holding there Dave Berry from Oxford so leaders out of the left-handed sweeper coming down through the Kink onto the front straight still resched with two laps to go from hitb Wallace Mason Heyman big gap back to Dwayne

Engley R hon in the big Firebird there very passionate um member of the Mainland mobile one as der farmer down at the too there is right he he seems to be able to close up on the back of Mason down the back straight but just um can’t do much more

After that Tony Johnson now getting close to the 351 Michael Bushell with the big Falcon the genuine one like you said yeah I was surprised to learn that everyone’s a bit precious about those sorts of things these days but uh pretty cool to see one out on the track

So Reese golden laap traffic now he’s managed to pass the xu1 there and two yes H’s gone through Tony Johnson pass Michael Bushell there down the back straight it’s not it’s not about where you are on the track is it it’s as long as you’re having fun looks like we got

One of the other commodor parked over the fence over there as well yes gu that’s the walk Walking Shore livered VL so looks like Um so um with a Lap of two to go it’s all reschool out in front and well into lap traffic see Tony Johnson trying to Chas chase down at Ryan Tinley in the number four Monaro just trying to pick up the race leader here he is coming into the hapin

Little bit of lap traffic starting to play aart in things now yep starting to slow them up but anyone’s going to get Advantage it’s going to be hit bur which he has he’s closed up within a a half a dozen he’s got to be able to get clear

Of the HQ pretty quick and that’s the flag out checken flag out we didn’t even see the last SL board but um however it’s a race win to rec scho race one of the weekend for the mobile one Mainland muscle cars so Johnny hurn coming in the second

Followed by Mike Wallace Brendan Mason Rod Heyman and the Pontiac Firebird and DNE Engley so there you go re gold the race winner from hurn then Mike Wallace bring in hymon and fourth rod Heyman and fifth there wasn’t much change between those the top five then Dwayne engley Mike small Matt Cory Paul Clark and heish F round out your top

10 Tony Johnson making a few passes there finishing in 14th Place Michael Bushell 15th Colin Campbell 16th Barry Morgan 17th and a couple of dnfs in there too Mark Scott and Williamson in the uh holding car parked over at the start of the back straight so great stuff there from the

Mainland muscle cars we’ll see them again later on today for another One All right as I mentioned earlier if you came in through the gate and got your entry form in to go for a ride in a race car at lunchtime you must be between the ages of 8 and 15 you need to get entry in to the box in the secretary’s office

You’ve got about 20 minutes to do that so if you’re between the ages of 8 and 15 you got the little entry form as you came in through the gate well there’s also extra entry forms in the secretary’s office get your name on the entry form and get it into the box you

Could be one of 10 lucky Motorsport enthusiasts to go for a ride and a race car at lunchtime also there is face painting in the club rooms at the South End of the pits I don’t don’t believe there’s an age restriction on that could be corrected but there is face painting

Which is free in the club rooms at the South End of the pits and there’s also a clown there entertaining the kids and that’s a real clown it’s not Paul B2 or myself it’s a real clown like with clown face and everything entertaining the kids so you’ve got the face painting

You’ve got the clown and more importantly if you’re between the ages 8 and 15 and really want to go for a riding a race car around the track at level’s Raceway make sure you get your entry form into the box in the race secretary’s office before midday and I’d

Like to welcome Jared parment here to offer some expert comments for the rx8s as they are about to head onto the circuit yeah great to be here um pro8 have got uh 13 cars this weekend down a little bit unfortunately we’ve had a few that have got blown Motors so they’re

Not running but um good field out there there’s going to be some pretty serious competition at the front there between Jared P um we’ve got Jared Pike and Ben mccon was split by 100th of a second in qualifying yesterday so it’s going to be a great battle between those two out

There today so you think they might be fighting they might be fighting for the same bit of circuit you think Jared yeah and the same team even so it could be uh who’s buying the beers later who’s buying the beers so who’s got the best engine builder um I think they’re both

Got the same oh dear okay yeah p a r m n t e r so uh number 13 number 13 Tom young in the front row just about to come onto the track um he had a bit of an issue with his clutch yesterday so the gearbox has been out

And the new clutch has been fitted this morning so it’s great to see him back out there that’s awesome to see them back out there racing cuz that’s where we want the cars on that side of the circuit is unfortunately we can see the 177 Commodore get toed into the pits

From the last Mainland car muscle race B1 so what’s been happening in the uh since the last time you were here Jared um we’ve got a few more Builds on the go um there’s a couple at work um unfortunately F Mitch had a bit of a

Crash at in vagle so he’s having to get another car built at the moment luckily he’s he’s actually got two cars so he’s in his other car this weekend so it’s great to have people like him in the in the class um putting back and getting

More cars out there you got a couple shelves at the back of work have you ready to go for someone there is a few there if someone’s looking for a car to come and see me so what is the difference between this class and the other RX8 class we’ve

Had out there is there significant differences between the cars Jared um probably the most major difference is they’ve got abs where we don’t run it yeah um there’s a a few different theories on why why we don’t run it is because the ABS is not always um there

It’s not consistent no it’s not consistent it’s more of a road car ABS system so it can lead to people going into walls and stuff and there was a lot of accidents early on in the north iseland Series so we chose to disconnect it and it’s been really good in terms of

Consistency of the brake pedal yeah it’s it’s all about the D not about what the computer wants to do yes totally totally so that’s the biggest so any other difference in the like the drive train engine modifications Bodywork uh no in terms of engine gearbox clutch side of

Things we we’re identical uh we have a slightly different diff ratio is the only other thing um and we’re running on different tires we run n Kings okay yeah good oh got 24 Red Racing RX8 out there once again Eddie C it’s out there in a couple of classes this season we’ve

Got the MX5 Heritage cars coming out as well good to see them in the South Island Jared yeah it’s really good to see they fun we cars to drive they are like little go-karts aren’t they in the handling yep might have had a little bit of a hairdresser

Name there when they first came out on the market as road cars but they’re very popular and as Paul mentioned earlier on we have a very popular MX5 sports car club in South Canterbury so days like today when the sun is out and the rain isn’t they’re out and about enjoying top down

Motoring so who’s going to be the big mover in the field do you think Jared who’s the Dark Horse in terms of qualifying um Jared Pike obviously bought out the red flag um by spinning and putting in the wall but carried on he came in we ripped his

Bumper off um so I’m not sure if he got a penalty for that or not so if they have given him that penalty we’ll see when they line up if he’s on the front row or not if he’s back a wee bit um he’ll be the guy he’ll be the guy y

Providing all the Action so the pro8 NZ class and MX5 grid start over eight laps and then after the pro 8s and MX5 we will have the super trucks out to entertain us for their first race of the weekend six laap Good Start if anyone’s looking to get into

The pro eight racing feel free to go down and see the guys um obviously there’s one out there that’s got four sale on the side of it that’s Flyn um go and see him that’s a really good car so ballpark figure what would you be looking for to buy a car that’s already

Set up Jared um I think you you can own that one for about 41,000 yeah so over over the season like how long’s an engine last what how many sets of tires do you go through what’s it like to keep one running for a for a season um in terms of running costs

They’re probably one of the cheapest forms of Motorsport you can get into obviously E’s Cup’s probably the cheapest um and um 2K cup should I say uh in terms of running costs if you’ve got a fresh engine or a new engine you probably get three SE out of it

Yep and a lot of good racing and it’s a car you can go and using lots of classes also do club ofo events when there’s no circuit racing on so popular motorc car or you could be like Marcus van clink put some R Tires on it and go skitting

Doing that too true so Jared Pikes has been given a grid penalty so he’s starting out a fourth even though he qualified first obviously yesterday so you’ll be watching for him to try and make his way to the sharper end of the field yep okay we’re just passing to reys gold and

Paul reys was the winner of the Mainland muscle car race on okay so we’re down here with the res scool winner of race one for the mainly muscle cars how’ you find that yeah hot work actually it’s hell of a wind out there at the moment

But um no it was a good race I started on pole but um uh Michael Wallace beat me to the first corner and had to wait behind him for about three laps uh to get the opportunity to pass him so um but no it was a good race after that

Just um trying to keep it steady but it’s bloody hot out there today and windy yeah yeah car looks strong uh like you say what what’s the winter Fe how’s the win feing in the car uh we bit slower down the down the um straight and

That sort of thing but no I me not too bad I suppose there’s a bit of dust in that on the circuit today so the times aren’t as uh as good as yesterday so um but no we’re doing all right the car’s going good and um Simon’s got it all

Cranked up there for me and U doing a great job so yeah no we’re having a good time first race in best of luck for race two reys great thanks cheers there you go ree go thanks Paul congratulations Reese on your W one but since we’ve have a chat

To Reese we’ve had the start of the pro8 MX5 race Ben mccon looks like he’s doing the business at the moment there Jared yeah he’s pulled out quite a we Gap um Jared Pikes made a good start obviously started fourth up to Second already so

You did say he would be the man to look out for being the fastest qualifier though did have a good penalty for his little incident holding up qualifying earlier on Good Start by Corin spr to be in third okay B mccon leads them across the stripe for the first of eight laps for

The pro eights and mx-5s so who’s doing the business as far as the mx-5s go so for the MX 5S we have the 59 car there 69 car sorry leading them down the straight guy Brandon palston North Ben mccon heads around to the mckisic curve leading the pro8

Through off into the card evaluation herein very good lead there for Ben at the moment over the Jared Pike AR Ex8 just waiting to see what the Gap is as they cross the stripe for the punishing the second of eight laps for the N King supported pro eight Class oh someone’s had a little bit of a love tap there by the look of the Jared the uh bump hanging off the back of that RX8 yeah Chris Macky robbin’s racing but we do like to see the cars keeping running B mccon now pulling out a big lead over the pipe car

As it heads off down to Jon Jones Steel all right coming into the mckisic curve now near looking to have a got around the outside maybe right on the back isn’t he’s yeah definitely giving them something to think about that’s the 221 carries chasing of Cory Stewart Cory from preon down the

Inside made it stick coming into the cat evaluation here pin the Press got to it Eddie AR goes up a place but it’s still the Ben mccon car doing the business Bradley dawon coming up on the back of him now comes across the strip got the 97

Car there of Corbin spra proudly wearing the order guest sponsorship I see Jared yeah good to be helping the young fell out obviously the spra name very famous around South Canterbury going back a few Generations Ernie spra a bit of a legend in his time and then he provided some Suns now

We’ve got the grandsons coming through keeping Motorsport strong in South Canterbury so who’s doing the business at the moment so Ben mccon doing a 118 fastest lap of the race so far though goes to second place man Jared Pike on a 1115 as Jared pment beside me mentioned it was

The fastest qualifier yesterday but did put po back back down the grid just got the 66 MX5 crossing the line first weekend here for the MX5 Heritage Cars and we have Ben mccon now coming across the line for the pro eight class still leading Jared Pike jumped out a we B those two haven’t they they certainly have pulled out from the rest of the fields getting a bit more exciting there with Corbin spra and

Eddie orai though as they coming through the p and Coes Eddie orai just sitting there giving Corbin something to think about as they come into the Marshall curve and head off down the back straight at levels Raceway got a couple of car on him then we pop back to the 221

Car so who’s pedling that one Jared Cory Stewart Cory Stewart all right got the MX 589 crossing the line now starting to the uh leaders just catch few the MX5 there so they’ll make it a little bit more interesting perhaps offer a passing opportunity for the Pik RX8 he’s caught up a lot he certainly has making the

Most of the back markers expected dive if he gets close enough okay what’s he got one and a half second lead though Ben mccon over Jared pipe Cordon spray Eddie arah and we got the Stewart car sitting back there bumper still holding on to the back of the Macky RX8 at the moment

So the two two guys at the front obviously Ben and Jared are fighting for the championship um they’re looking obviously to get the drive we’ve done recently done a deal with the um RX8 Series in the Australia so that our winner of our series goes over there and

Races at one of their tracks that’ be quite a cool thing to win wouldn’t it very much so are their cars very similar to what we race out here a lot more Street orientated in terms of um like the gear ratio and how heavy they they haven’t lightened them very much um

They still got standard clutches and stuff like that so a wee bit slower but yeah the Fun’s still there Fun’s still there yeah well I think I think you might have been to Australia recently to drive one of those cars haven’t you Jared I did yes the opportunity to go

And race at be that was really good I guess something we’ve all grown up watching so the race on the circuit itself is very good as Ben mccon leads Jared across the line once again as they pass the 66 MX five what’s happening further down the

Field Eddie hasn’t be able to make a d under Corbin sprags lead at the moment of course Eddie arai comes from a bit of a motorsporting family as well with the Leonards really good to have him along he obviously run a Honda and SS cup a couple of seasons ago so it’s really

Good that he’s um bought an RX8 and come to do one R series obviously very good for the racecraft if you’ve all got the same car the stars shine don’t they Jared they sure do yep makes you dig a bit deeper when you’re getting beaten I know that

Much and also stands out why is his faster than mine why is he faster than me you’ve got to learn what to do don’t you yeah very much so all right oh Jared getting right up on the back of B mccon now coming into the card evaluation here pin also got a

Back marker there in front of them which might give Jared P the opportunity to make something happen not this stage still Ben mccon leading them across the line one lap to go can Jared do anything pulls in behind him into the p and CO’s now they’re off

To the Marshall curve can he get a good run out and get a run down the back straight what can Jared do do you think he’s close enough to get a tow there Jared no he a be bit far back bit far back yeah can’t make something

Happen there’ll be a big dive under breaks down here but he won’t be close enough but he’ll certainly put pressure on give Ben something to think about as they head through Jon Jones still and off into the mckisset curve Flyn Mitchell having a run down the outside of Chris Macky coming in the

Off the back straight so there was only a tenth of a second between those two Mack and Mitchell last time they crossed the line they’ll be coming across to get the last lap flag as does the mx-5s they pass on through formation finish for the BMC

Team as they come up to the Finish Line looks like bonic is going to get a start flag to finish flag win for the N Kang Pro eights good finish there for the Jared Pik car started fourth as you mentioned because of a penalty through qualifying there we’ve got spren AR go

Through Cory Stewart but winner is Ben mccon for the masterda pro eight racing class we’ll see the uh pro8 back out a bit later in the uh marble draw grid position so that one will be really good cool so top 10 we have Ben mccon P1 Jared Pike Corbin spray Ed AR Cory

Stewart Bradley Dawson Chris Macky managed to keep the bumper on the back of his number four in car there to come through on Seventh Flynn Mitchell Tom young and we’ve got Michael Court rounding out the top 10 for the nanang pro8 thank you very much Jared pment for

Your assistance you go down and get all the gos bring it back to us we we we won’t tell everyone their secrets I promise [Applause] Right [Applause] [Applause] A [Applause] [Applause] N so does it talk to well it’s a beautiful fine sunny day with trust aori as we get the field of the mighty Mazdas Off the Grid and you can see in the background the beautiful Plains and levels Raceway what a sight race day Saturday as we get ready to go and

Rumble with the battle of the big rigs round two of the Nappa NZ super trucks and joining us is Ash hay who’s fresh from doing the flying lap where’ you go mate in your Briant flying lap today you did a um a good time driving the 24 uh

In fact you did a international for Muna 1246 oh that’s not too bad only half a second or a second so away from Mark who normally drives it so that’s a pretty good start to the weekend we can keep especially after all the work you guys

Had to do to go racing after putting a diffing it again yesterday pulling the diff out pulling it apart stripping it and finding a few problems with it and putting it back together and he only got to test it out this morning in the warm

Up and yeah she’s she’s good to go now great to see the crowd turning out for race day Saturday here as part of trusta Roi Thunder Down Under in the beautiful sunshine today uh thanks to all the the volunteers from the south canary car club that come out and make Motor Racing

Days like this happen it’s fantastic to see I love it the way the the fans turn up down here at Timaru as you can see we’re on our way to about 28° it’s fine and C but my God she’s windy out there she’s blustering getting up to over in

About 30ks at times and some of the mares and the tents very dusty yeah it’s actually the grass is really dry around here too and plenty of it’s blowing around the pits but see the weather there it’s about nearly 28° here which is warming up so it’s pretty hot for

Some of these guys in these Vehicles as well some of them will be coming out dripping with sweat just like you were yesterday when you were working very very hard and very impressively changing that diff after uh 2 hours of hot stuff and that’s what happens when you come to

Motorsport isn’t it plan for the worst and expect the unexpected and hope for the best yeah well that’s it you don’t really like to come away and do these things and do too much work you’re you’re supposed to be here enjoying the atmosphere and all the racing and stuff

But that is a part of it and hey we weren’t the only team either suters had a turbo blow up on their truck in one of the warm-ups too so so they were half the night last night Machining up new housings and stuff like that to put

Their old turbo back on it so yeah everyone’s everyone’s doing a little bit of work I think the littles had a fa bit of work to do overnight too to set up some chassis stuff and I’m sure all the other guys would have been working on

Them as well great sits from Pitts TV as you can see the ohow quaries big Kenworth in honor of Carl Carl Gibson yeah the truck’s a legend and there’s a picture of a legend on the back of it as well 50 years of Volvo racing and 50 years of racing

Trucks as you can see but also uh Hamish from Bosco bryo Sullivan Contracting is driving that truck today because they’re the round sponsor for the racing on the track here today at levels Raceway in the sunshine race day Saturday 2.4 km and it’s going to be a very interesting

Grip because it’ll feature number one the two-time defending Champion Alex little if you go back through the history of NZ super trucks Nappa super truck racing when a guy gets a good truck and a good team together they can tend to dominate for quite a few years

Look at Troy wheeler did it for six years in a row didn’t he yeah Troy six-time champion and yeah even back in the early days like the Lo of Ron stter when they started off with their trucks he got a good truck out of Aussie and uh

Out of England sorry and he dominated for three or four years the porters were the same nalic were the same and yeah like you say Troy’s not here unfortunately he’s off away for a season but if if he was here it would be a neck and neck battle between those two guys

Out the front as well and the littles have definitely dominated for the last couple of years now talking about the porters Andrew Porter still has the lap record for a super truck around here at levels Raceway it’s almost 20 years old too goes back to 2003 and it’s a 118.2437

As you may have heard on trucking Radio and on NZ trucking magazine over white tongy weekend big Kenworth celebration yeah that’s that’s a big show all right I think they said it could be one of the world’s biggest truck shows with a one make truck I think I’ve registered about

900 Kenworths for that show which it could be a world record they reckon for a one M Truck Show so a magnificent truck has these Battle of the big rigs come out to play for round two of the NEPA NZ super trucks we certainly hope you’re enjoying our live stream on the

Sunshine day Saturday race day here at levels Raceway in Timaru after the opening round it’s Dave West from pooi that leads the field with 48 points in the freight lineup don’t forget they’ll be doing the rolling start behind that beautiful big Kenworth Ron sta currently second and the scaran number 63 with 46

Points and then it’s uh Alex little the defending Champion is on 41 points followed by Shane Gray 38 Mark King your m in the international out of iduna 36 points Connor eating in the Volvo 33 points Bren Collins my God he had a bad day in

The Manfield opening round he had a DQ in qualifying and a DQ in race two couple of seconds to have 27 points and Troy eating had a dnf in that last race with 27 points so Dave West is the man there he is number 26 the beautiful freight liner followed by Shane Gray

Watch out for those two guys as they line up behind the the TR today thanks to bryo Sullivan Contracting out of Wellington Hamish the driver there sponsoring the round this weekend and of course uh the other drivers will be taking part in what they term as the flying farewell which

Includes Ash and all the other guys that do the hard work behind the scenes with the uh the crew chiefs so here’s the grid as we line up for race one Nappa inz super trucks and on the P1 position it’s number one NZ Alex little out of Wellington in the freight line along

Side him Shane Gray out of Wellington and the Kenworth then it’s number 26 the freight liner of Dave West out of ockland currently leads the series Tony br’s done a great job coming out of rangiora the Ashley Forest to put that beautiful Old Bedford right up there in

The P4 then Brent Collins from Timaru he’ll be a man on a mission to try and drive back through the field after being red flagged during the qualifying session so he’s done it all Connor reading in the Volvo out of Auckland number 12 Ron Salter watch out for him

And the extend Hol Scania 69 years old four-time Legend and uh loves the motor racing loves the truck racing alongside Troy eating had problems in the qualifying session with diesel and then number 24 will be your mate from euna the login contractor Mark King so the

Trucks are ready to go mate yeah yeah well Mark starting off the back here too without registering a qualifying time cuz we still had the diff out of the truck so unfortunately he will start from the back and I think he’ll want to try and get in front of a couple of

These guys early on in this race as well so he can hold them off for the rest of the race tight track here 2.4 km and of course uh a legendary turn one then the big turn and three around that sweeper then the big long back straight down

Towards the southern part of the northern part of the circuit um around the mckisic curve so a few places to pass the mck Curve will be one um I think turn one bound to be very interesting uh potential for Collision yeah turn turn one’s always um very

Tight to get around at a start of one of these races with the trucks cuz the house so big and they all be bunching up and they’ll all especially these two on the front out of the two of Alex little and Shane Gray both of them will be

Wanting to get into that first turn first if they can to get a clear run back out onto the back straight four races over the weekend we start with the grid race first up over six laps followed by the reverse grid to finish day one later on tonight for the

Napper NZ super trucks then another scrub session tomorrow followed by just before the lunchtime break tomorrow race three which will be a reverse split so that gives the top drivers four chances to get points in qualifying races 1 2 and three 16 points for first 13 for

Second 11 for third 10 for fourth and then 9 8765 back down towards the field so plenty of chances for the top drivers to make the points up if they’ve had problems in practice problems in qualifying Andor problems during the race like a DNS to not start DQ or D not

Dnf and then the final race of course it’ll be the six lap of reverse grid Showdown with the flying farewell where guys like ash ha and Johnny hurn and all the guys that do the hard work behind the scenes Keith Wilson Peter Bartlet Jason Lincoln and Ash hay and Co the the

Crew chiefs and the mechanics they get a chance to spin the wheel whe of these big trucks and have a bit of fun out there he mate yeah and it’s a good um it’s a good initiative that they’ve come up with this year to set it up as a

Little bit of a separate sort of Championship to the main event cuz it’s um yeah it draws those guys that have put on the hard yards in the offseason to work on these trucks to give them a taste of what it’s like and the hope

That hey maybe they go away and they go home and they think well I spend all this time working on these other guys trucks maybe I could build me own one cuz I actually quite like driving them as much as I like working on them what a

Great sight not just the the beautiful big ohow quarry’s k with but look at this field of Nappa NZ super trucks Alex little Shane Gray on the front row of the grid Westy and brand Collins and Connor Suter and eating then King who’s going to make the king pass where will

The be able to make the pass perhaps around the The Hairpin if you can basically send it down the inside there might be an opportunity yeah the ha pin’s a good spot for passing as well as off the back straight there but I think

If you if you keep an eye on Brent um Collins in the start of this race he’ll be the one that wants to try and move in as as quick as he can up the field and he’ll probably put the hammer down down the back straight and pass a couple of

These guys out with the power that he’s got and we’re ready to go here think 6 months since the opening rounde at Mighty Manfield now we’re ready to go it’s time to go up the truckies round two of the Nappa NZ Super Truck series and they go flying into

Turn one at levels Raceway and Timaru and Alex little makes a nice little we pass maintains that pole position Ronnie Suter trying to follow up with old bones Collins as they sweep around turns two and three in the heading father and Sun combo try to make a a brand move on Tony

Brand down the back straight little gray West Collins brand the scarier of Ron solder he’s made a bit of a move got up past I think Connor yeah it’s pretty tight going and off the back straight there these guys will have to be careful here but oh

Collins just getting a little bit wide and shows you how much dust can be blown up by these big rigs remember two classes Class A and then there’s Class B Class A over 12 L up to about 5 1/2 ton 2,000 horsepower so lots of Grunt and Class B

Is uh just under 12 ler and and about 5,000 5,000 ton and about 1500 horsepower yeah Alex little right out in the front now he would have this is an ideal start for him he can hopefully sit comfortably now just just keep an eye on

His mirrors and hold a nice Pace here to make sure those other guys don’t catch up looks like Mark King here maybe going to be doing a move on Connor eting off the front straight here Connor locks up breaking down into turn one and also two

Three that bones trying to make a move on Westy as the plumes of diesel comes claming out around turn one little gray westest Collins bran eating Troy eating’s made a good move Ron solder Connor eating back in the Volvo Mark King 24 how’s he going in that International you’ve done so much hard

Work to try and keep it going so he’s still on the track mate yeah he’s still doing good he’ll be fighting away here with Connor they quite evenly um match trucks there too so they’ll have their own good little battle at the back of the field here and even Dave West doing

A really good job I don’t know I’ve done some work to that track but he’s doing an amazing job holding off Brink Collins here for the first few laps yeah Westy’s been very good with that pace in the the practice session sitting around about that 123 Mark 120 this

Morning for Brent Collins although 66 watch out for him not quite getting his full box and tricks just struggling a bit with the limiter setad of getting up to 160k which is what these trucks are restricted to say about the 154 you know what he’s like never happen n no if he’s

Not going too slow he’s normally going too fast and gets done for speeding as well oh Bren well the man from Timaru no doubt plenty of fans will be out watch number 66 as he gets him behind Dave West 26 out of PUO and the two freight liners different style of freight liners

One’s the cab over the other one’s got the big Bonnet great to see the fans around turns two and three great spectacular spot to watch the truck racing levels Raceway to Maru and uh the opening race of the weekend for the Nappa NZ super trucks and I tell you

What Alex Little’s game plan very very C get a good qualifying position get out in front and stay out in front let the other guys do the Carnage at the back of the thing because then that puts him in a good position to make up points that

He lost at Manfield it looks like Bren Collins here making a move on Dave West just off J Jones here trying to S it down the inside you always know that Collins bones is going to be uh get amongst the the black tarmac as much as he gets

Amongst the black currents with the f down in poora and Westy though he not going away the man that leads the series with 48 points had some good form in Manfield but Alex little number one blowing them away at the moment big big lead doing a great

Job Shane Gray maintaining a nice second spot battle heating up for third now as Brent Collins has got past Dave West there’s that change as you can see on our live stream thanks to Jason and the team from Pitts TV experts in Speedway stock cast you name it on the dirt stuff

And now doing a superb job here with the live stream on a hot Tac day and Alex little actually just done a 11 184 there which I think that may even be a new lap record was it it’s knocking on the doorable a lap record 11 18242 oh he’s

Not far away there he’d be looking to probably set a new record here while he’s out in front if he can he’s only2 of a second off there Ronnie Sal 69 years old four-time champion in the Scania there’s the Father and Son combo of Troy eating and Connor eating one’s

In the Volvo one’s in the uh the Kenworth Mark King just sitting back there watching what they’re doing in case he can pick up some uh pick up some scraps if these guys battle each other too hard so a few guys had some problems in qualifying with the blow turbo of

Mascaria the diesel that ran out of struck Diesel’s all up let’s see what our mate Alex little is doing this time a 1178 1187 so he’s knocking on the door of that uh that fastest lap good battle further back down the field cuz it’s not just about the guys

Up in front you can pick up some valuable points in this opening race over six laps in the sunshine oh a little bit sideways rock and roll here that’s what the fans like with the big rigs and Connor might be able to make a move on him here now after a little slip

Up like that he’s going to go down the inside here of two and one is he can he send it down past the inside of the old man he might think twice when it’s the old man I guess Tony BR the out of Ashley Forest got the Old Bedford it’s

Like a mobile museum piece but he loves it quter back in 2010 still goes really well that Bedford too and Tony does a great job of driving it and his uh son-in-law will be racing it in the flying farewell up against you so there’s the Father and Son there’s the

Old man in the Kenworth and cter hey Dad see you later dad puts the old Volo down and of course Malcolm little was racing with his son Alex little out of Wellington the coach Builders so a fantastic Family Sport when you look at the Nappa NZ super

Trucks let’s see what the speed will be for Alex little game plan right on Q at the moment great time in practice superb time in qualifying great time in the in the actual r race here today oh he’s really slowed off now he’s doing a 121 so he’s probably he’s probably taking

His chances at a la record here and he’s got nothing left in it now so he’s just backed it off I think banking the points for the chase in the championship currently third behind Ronnie Suter and Dave West but picking up valuable points here after dominating qualifying and a

Dominant performance in race one by the two-time defending Champion Alex little out of Wellington and one lap to go and I’d dare say Brent Collins might be trying to make a move here on Shane Gray if he can with not many many laps left the hand is on Mark King really slowed

Down too so he may even have a problem now just crawling past the the start Finish Line at the moment no doubt Mark King will be thinking I’ve got to save the truck for ash ha my mechanic for the flying very well well and he wants to

Just get around if he even if he’s last he’s still got to pick up some points of some sort okay bones Baker Shake Rattle and bake what’s he going to do where’s he going to send it looking for a move here at the Heen I’d say backing your

Line up at 52,000 T and fake down he did it though in Manfield fake down the inside did a Shane Van gburg and was outstanding so we’re talking about checked flag time we got the big checked flag screen look at that that’s flash Booyah rock and roll Alex little he’s

Number one and he’s number one finishes P1 in race one and Shane Gray is going to hold on for P2 followed by Bren Collins number 66 coming home to wrap up the top three Dave West another good drive Steady As She Goes number 26 rounding out the top four Ron Salter

Will be next no it’s Tony BR out of rora the Kant coming out and Blasting that Bedford just for the South Island series good skills Rod Suter will be uh like an old dog with new tricks all the time yeah and then Connor eating Troy eating

And Mark King just bringing it home so a 11 18.480 almost knocking on the door of a lap record that stood for 20 years so Alex little Champion Drive mate yeah that was a great drive from Alex here and I’m sure that’s the way he wanted to start the weekend as well especially

With some reverse grid races coming up later on it’s definitely harder for those guys to get through the field when you’ve got um all those other trucks in front to try and pass so yeah great start for their weekend great start for Shane Gray too there in finishing second

And of course he’s got Johnny hippo who’s another local from Timaru doing the flying farewell and uh he’s um if you take a look at some of the replays he’s helping to get a bit more Need for Speed out of that truck and just tweaking it here and there so

That’s really good smart thinking by Shane Gray yeah and Johnny’s a great driver too he’s won the series twice in two different trucks and he’s um obviously a champion motorcycle rider and stuff too so he’s a yeah he’s a great guy that they should have should

Have maybe tried to look at him a year ago and get some extra tips off them and I’m sure it will approve change times over the season to come if they use a guy like him to help one of the truck’s almost getting it sideways and then

Connor said thanks very much Dad he made the move some great passing moves there by Brent Collins as we take a look at some of the highlights from the opening race of the Nappa NZ super trucks of the sunshine on our way to 28° we are

Talking hot stuff and we got a whole stack of hot Motor Racing still to come after the lunch break B1 B2 Brendan Nichols and uh Brendan Cooney will be back along with Paul Lancaster and of course plenty of other great motor sport to watch out for don’t get the second

Race for the Dapper NZ super trucks coming up at the end of the day to wrap up the day and that’s going to be a reverse grid Showdown so it’s lunchtime sit back relax the team from the live stream will have a bit of a break and we’ll be back

Motor racing as well after the lunch break when we come back with mini SS and pre 65s around about 12:30 at the moment it’s
