All right, this update is brought to you by Staples Stores. Aztecs lost to Boise State Saturday morning, 67-66. Next up, they take on Wyoming back at home at Viejas Arena, 6 p.m. tip-off. Of course, you can listen to that game right here on San Diego Sports 760. And the championship games

Are set in the NFL. First up on Sunday will be the Chiefs and the Ravens, followed by the Lions taking on the San Francisco 49ers for a chance to head to Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas. This update has been brought to you by Staples. All right. San Diego, Southern California.

What’s going on? Hour one, John and Jim, we are back. So is sports rap. We continue until six o’clock here today. We’ve got great giveaways for you. In fact, we’re going to give away multiple pairs of San Diego state basketball tickets for tomorrow. We also have Janet Jackson tickets with Nelly to give

Away for June that we will give away, but we should start with, first of all, hopefully everyone is taking their time, safe, dry, has avoided the nightmare that has been today on the roads. Now, for me personally, it was easy. 15 minutes, point A to point B. I was

Worried all day because I saw the tweets from Darren, and it looked like an absolute disaster. Now, Darnay has made it to work, apparently. Jim has made it. Jim told me it took him an hour and 20 minutes to get here. It normally takes him an hour and 30.

So you actually made him less time than normal. But everyone’s here and safe. Everyone’s had a different experience, I guess, getting here today. Yeah, it was just hearing from Darren today and the pictures that he put out there on X. I was prepared and I just went around everything.

I went some crazy direction that I’ve never gone before. It took me a long time, but I was constantly moving. So that was nice. Didn’t hit any traffic, didn’t hit any accidents or any puddles, but it just took forever. Now, Darnay, where do you, I mean, how long does it typically

Take you to get to work and how long did it take you today? I’d say it typically takes about 13 minutes and it was double that close to a half hour today. And it got to a point where like, you know, I have to do a little bit of freeway hopping and one

Of them had a long, long line where there are usually no cars. And I thought, oh, well, this could be troublesome and got through that and then ran into a long, long line going down into Mission Valley on the 15th. Started to think I might need to text Darren that

I’m not going to be there in time for sports wrap. And fortunately, I rolled in right around 220, was able to was able to get things done. Yeah. So it was it was a little tenuous at moments, but we got through it safely. For the most part, it wasn’t bad.

Just a couple of couple of long backups. So be careful out there. This town, when it comes to rain, like it’s it’s a it’s a problem. But this is honestly this. I didn’t expect this much rain. Everyone’s like, oh, you know, it’s rained over the weekend and that wasn’t that bad.

Like there’s going to be another storm moving through on Monday. Right. hurricane. And then all of a sudden it’s like one of the 10 rainiest days in the history of the city. And you’ve got flooding on highways in the city of San Diego, which is scary. So again,

If you’re out and about this afternoon, this evening, please be safe. All right. This is where Jim got mad at me, Darnay. And there’s been like a hundred ways he’s gotten mad at me over the last 48 hours. But I wrote into the rundown. Did the Niners win because

Of Brock Purdy or in spite of Brock Purdy? He then followed up in the rundown by saying, I hate this question. So the Niners do move on, which is what everyone in this room was hoping for. Because Brent would have lost his mind. He hates the Packers.

This is the one time he was like, please, Brock Purdy, look like an MVP. And… The Niners win, Jim. I know that you were feeling it and going through it on Saturday, but the Niners found a way. How did they do it? And did they do it because of Brock in the end?

I have no idea how they won that game. I think anybody watching that game would say that they didn’t deserve to win it because there was not one point in that game until… Dre Greenlaw, who decided he wanted to be like Deion Sanders out there after his second interception,

When he finally got down and the game was over, is the only time of the game I felt any type of confidence. And thinking back on it, you’re saying to yourself, if you’re a Niners fan or me or whatever, how did they win that football game? And to your stupid question,

They wouldn’t have won that game without Brock Purdy. Well, yeah, they needed a quarterback, and I agree with that. I mean, they wouldn’t have won without a quarterback. It’s like, well, the Padres only have two outfielders next year. I recognize they’ll need three. Yeah, and Brock Purdy played a really bad game.

But he got it done when it mattered the most. I agree. And he did the one thing that you can’t do in the postseason, which is the most important thing, and that’s turn the ball over. He did not turn the ball over at all. Kept it clean. Now,

There was a couple passes that should have been intercepted, but they weren’t. So he got lucky there, but he did it without turning the ball over, had the drive at the end of the game, scored the game-winning touchdown, got it done, shaky as hell, and I’m exhausted. Yeah. What’d you think, Darnay?

I mean, how would you answer that? Did they win because of him or did they win in spite of him or maybe somewhere? Make that argument, Darnay. Make it because they won in spite of him. They won in spite of him, clearly. They won because Packers DVs can’t catch, apparently.

You don’t even have to flip the turnover numbers. Like if Jordan Love and Brock Purdy had each thrown one interception, Green Bay probably wins that game. Oh, yeah. But Green Bay didn’t take advantage of those opportunities when Purdy was kind of sailing it. And goodness, Christian McCaffrey is good.

And it’s not even that he put… It’s not like he had like 150 rushing yards, three touchdowns. It wasn’t like one of those types of games. But especially in the playoffs, when you have a back like that, that can move the chains, break tackles… kind of get out into open space,

Turn a three yard play into a 12 yard play. It makes such a huge difference. And George Kittle did a little bit of that as well. And to Purdy’s credit, like you said, didn’t actually turn the ball over despite his efforts, the first two or three quarters tried and then,

And then led them on a drive when they needed to. Um, man, I would have loved to see Jordan Love at least put, for an entertainment value standpoint, at least put a drive together because they had the opportunity, and then he throws the early pick, and that is kind of that.

Would you have loved that, Jim, if Jordan Love had a game-winning drive there? Even if the Niners had won, it would have been just good. It would have been good theater. I would have enjoyed that. He’s had kind of a breakout season, and that would have been fun, but obviously things went differently.

Let me answer that for you. No, I would not have had fun at all. I would have been miserable. Is there a worse job seriously than kicking, though, in the NFL? You think about Green Bay’s kicker who’s missed a ton of kicks this year. You think about what happened last night with Buffalo.

You are sitting on those moments for an entire year. You can never really overcome a game-winning kick in a bigger game. Is there anything worse in pro sports? Well, no, there’s not. I don’t think there is. I don’t think there is. And this goes back to like,

If the kicker misses the field goal, then we just blame the quarterback. And you’re like, well, the kicker missed it. And it’s just… Are you saying with Josh Allen on Sunday? Yeah, it’s a weird discussion. I don’t think Josh Allen played a particularly good game, but… you know,

There have been times where the kicker misses it and it’s the quarterback’s fault. Well, if the kicker misses it and the quarterback goes well, then it’s hard to really blame the quarterback, but somehow it always seeps in like, oh, the quarterback should have done more, should have done more here.

But yeah, being a kicker, I told Aaron the other night after that game, we were watching it. And I looked at her and I was like, I would never, ever want to be a kicker in the NFL. Never. That’s like the least thankful job to have in all

Of sports because you make the kick. You’re supposed to. You’re supposed to. And you miss it. It’s like you’ve defined history. And the quarterback gets the MVP. If you miss it, then you literally never come back for everything. Yeah, you can’t pin me enough. Buffalo is infamous for missed kicks.

And now you’ve got to sit on that for a year. That’s the thing with sports just in general. Any time you lose in a heartbreaking fashion, you’ve got to wait another year. But you think about the history of Buffalo football. It’s all this heartbreak. And it’s like now you’ve

Lost again to the Kansas City Chiefs. And now what you’ve got left is Kansas City and Baltimore. You’ve got this unbelievable, intriguing quarterback matchup. Then you’ve got Jared Goff and Brock Purdy on the other side. What’s interesting to me, here’s what I need to know. If San Francisco wins as the

Home favorite on Sunday, will they be favored in the Super Bowl, or do we need to see what plays out in the AFC title game? So the Lions are out for whatever team makes the Super Bowl, like for all the matchups, the four different matchups, which is kind of weird how

They already have lines created. Oh, the Lions are out for all four? Okay, so where are they? So the Niners would be favored in every game. which I don’t understand that. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I mean, they lost to Baltimore already at home. The Ravens would be favored

Over the Lions. The Niners would be favored over the Ravens and the Chiefs. The Lions wouldn’t be favored over anybody. Does that make sense to you? I got stuck on your kicker comment, John. I’m sorry. If somebody offered to pay you $1.5 million a year to be a professional kicker,

I wouldn’t do it. Now, granted, you work out all year round. You got to keep yourself in shape all year long, but your reason is like five months. You’re working like six months out of the year. You’ve got endorsement deals on top of a million dollars a year. Okay. I’m making $2 million.

Who are you? Are you Justin Tucker or are you the guy that missed the Bills? You can be Tyler Pass. You can be Tyler Pass from the Bills. He’s made a lot of big kicks and he’s been a good kicker for that. You wouldn’t take that? No. When’s the next time you’re

Going to sleep? If you’re Tyler Bass, when’s the next time you’re going to sleep? That is something. There’s some PTSD probably in there. It’s when you potentially are living with four forever until your team gets over that hump, aren’t you? It’s so definable. It’s not as simplistic as that, but you lost.

People are going to say you lost because of him. Apparently, he’s had to delete his social media because of some of the backlash, which is unfortunate. I don’t want to diminish that because that does take a heavy toll. But, John, what if you hit the game-winning field goal as the clock

Runs out in the Super Bowl for a franchise like Buffalo or the Jets or the Browns, some franchise that hasn’t done it for a long time? Then you’re a hero. You never have to buy kombucha or an acai bowl ever again. What if I don’t? It’s like with Darion Tremel

At the line last year, he misses the first free throw against Creighton to go to the Final Four. I got no chance of hitting the second free throw. I guess maybe it’s not just kicking because there’s other instances in other sports. Bill Buckner, there’s all kinds of instances where I time out

And you don’t have a timeout against a little tournament. You see things in the NBA Finals play out right. Didn’t that happen with LeBron? What happened? Timeout or something. Oh, J.R. Smith? J.R. Smith, yeah. Thank you. I mean, it obviously happens. It just feels like it’s magnified with me. So basically what you’re

Saying is you’d rather work with me and earn $1.5 million. I’ll tell you what. I’ll tell you what. I’ll take the $1.5 million. Love you, Jim. But I’m going to be a good questioner. You put it that way. I just think it’s a thankless job unless, yeah,

You pick the game when they pick you. There’s a lot of good things that happen to them as well. And if you miss that pick, you’re going to lose forever. Right. And this going on to campus on Sunday, these are the right matches, right? I feel looking at the entirety of the playoffs,

These are the four best teams. There’s no surprises here, I feel like, right? Would you agree, Narnia? I love it. And I love, you know, a team like the Niners. And then… I think the lines for kind of us neutral viewers at this point are like the emotional favorite and the

Great story that everyone’s rallying behind. Right. And have done for long under people’s eyes. Uh, but, Fun to have a long-suffering franchise like that involved with such a, you know, kind of a unique personality and character that they derive from Dan Campbell. And then two MVP quarterbacks, two really good defenses. Like,

Is Chiefs Ravens going to be 17-13 or is it going to be like 34-28? I really don’t know. But the makeup of the team and the star power involved, you know, I’ve got no clue. I told Jim that if you would have told a Niners fan to start the year,

He’s got a home playoff game to go to the Super Bowl against Jared Goff and the Lions. I mean, I would just, you’d have to take it. Considering some of the other circumstances, Dak Prescott, again, they’re not good in the postseason. Or Jalen Hurts with what the Eagles did a year ago.

If they were, you know, let’s say the Eagles were like 15-2 and the Niners were 15-2 and this game was in San Francisco. You wouldn’t feel great as a Niner fan. So to get Jared Goff, I know the Lions have been great. I was critical of them being on Thursday Night Football

To open the season. I’m like, Lions? Give me a break. Another NFC title game. Since 1957. But Jared Goff at home, if you can’t beat Jared Goff at home, if you can’t go through Packers-Lions, then you don’t deserve to be in the Super Bowl. Yeah, especially what happened last year in

The NFC title game when Brock Purdy’s arm blew up four plays into the game. The whole entire thing for the Niners was their season starts now. Like, it was get back to the NFC title game, make sure you’re relatively healthy. The Debo thing does kind of scare me.

But make sure you’re relatively healthy, you’re in the NFC title game, and that’s when your season starts. Because everything before that, if they didn’t get to this point, would have been a failure. And so now, like you said… I mean, you can’t ask for anything more. Take it.

You take that, especially, you know, if you’re the Ravens, you obviously you’re at home versus my homes. Like you, you take that in a heartbeat better than playing there. Yeah. So the Ravens and Niners have it set up just how they want it. You’re facing the best quarterback for the Ravens at home.

If you’re the Niners, you have a home playoff game in the NFC title game to make the Super Bowl. Like, you can’t ask for anything more from those two teams. I’m sorry. Jim, did you have the if Debo hadn’t gotten hurt tweets saved in your drafts, just like the if Brock

Purdy hadn’t gotten hurt? comments and tweets and hot takes that have, you know, floating around for the last year, even though the Eagles were always going to win that game, regardless of who is at a quarterback. Well, you know, Darnay, usually the quarterback is the most important position on the field. So no,

I did not have those ready because we weren’t going to hear that for a full year. Just like we heard about Brock Purdy for a full year. Well, it’s hard when you don’t have a quarterback to play a team. I mean, that’s, that’s difficult, but when you don’t have a wide receiver,

I mean, you still can go out there and win a game. Do you think, let me ask Darnay this. How are the Eagles doing, huh? Where are the Eagles at? Exactly. Oh, they’re horrible. They’re a mess. How do you think, do you think the criticism, I mean, Jim makes an interesting point.

Brock Purdy’s the last overall pick in the draft. He’s gotten to two NFC title games at the very least. We’ll see what happens from here on out. He’s been a good player on a really good team. Like, is the criticism, vitriol, hatred thing too far with Brock Purdy

Like what is it I mean he had a very good statistical season obviously he’s got great pieces around him but so does Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson historically in recent years like is the vitriol fair and and why is it towards Brock Purdy Yeah, that’s a good question. I mean,

I think we’re so used to seeing certain quarterbacks emerge through the draft process and this, that. And every so often a Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott, guys that are drafted in later rounds pop. But I think there’s just a natural skepticism that comes with Mr. Irrelevant being the starting quarterback for one of the

Best teams in the league. And so… Um, I think it’s just one of those things that might kind of follow him around and it might be fair to a degree. I think it didn’t help that there were a couple games this year where he didn’t have his full complement of

Weapons and didn’t play particularly well. And certainly the start of that Packers game looked, um, looked shaky and didn’t look like himself. But you mentioned the numbers. I mean, he put up like insane numbers for the most part this season. It’s just kind of the gift and curse when you are

Blessed with the resources and the supporting cast that Brock Purdy has, or you might have to live with some of that criticism until a situation arises or a season arises where it really is on your shoulders. And there are probably even some people that thought, hey, Patrick Mahomes is

He’s got maybe the best tight end of all time, maybe the best wide receiver of this era in Tyreek Hill, maybe the best offensive mind, great coordinators, all that. Now I think that conversation is long gone because he’s had two straight seasons, one where he won a Super

Bowl without some of those guys, and now where he’s back in the conference championship game. Um, but I think, you know, there’s always going to be kind of some detractors. I don’t think you can be surprised when it’s a little bit louder when a guy comes from, you know, the, the,

The background that Purdy has emerges in a surprising fashion and has one of the best offensive minds and one of the best surrounding surrounding casts, you know, in the entire league, it’s just going to come kind of come with that. This whole thing is Jimmy Garoppolo’s fault. This whole thing.

And why do you say that? Because Jimmy played well under Shanahan. They got to a Super Bowl. But Brock Purdy’s played better than Jimmy. But people want to put Jimmy and Brock in the same system of, well, if Jimmy could do it, then why couldn’t anybody else do it?

Brock’s doing exactly what Jimmy’s doing, even though Brock has played significantly better at moments and has better statistics than Jimmy Garoppolo ever had in his entire career. But I do think the Jimmy Garoppolo thing is a huge reason why people not say, I mean, people not say to dislike Purdy,

But they’re pushing back vehemently on Brock Purdy for anybody that praises him. Because in their mind, it’s, well, Jimmy Garoppolo did it. Of course, anybody could do it. It’s just funny how certain names trend and maybe because it’s a NFC divisional playoff game. I literally went to Twitter when the ball was dropped

By the Packer DB early, whenever that was, when it was thrown right to him. And I’m sure it’s customized for me, but the first thing trending was Purdy. And then throughout the course of the next three hours on the right side of my screen is Purdy the entire game. And it makes sense.

Again, quarterbacks, kickers. People want him to fail. Yeah, it feels like that. Machado trends all the time when the Padres are playing. Just in general, he’s one of these polarizing baseball players. I think he trends outside of San Diego as well, especially when they’re playing a team like the LA Dodgers.

I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world, and I also think it speaks to how good he’s been. He wouldn’t be trending. If he wasn’t good. There’s this love-hate dynamic that’s playing out with Brock Purdy for whatever reason. We said this before the show, Jim. I think you agree.

Even if he wins this Super Bowl, I think people say, well, they won in spite of him. And if they don’t win the Super Bowl, it’s all on him. The only way he even kind of wins… is if they win the Super Bowl, he throws four touchdowns

Versus the Ravens, and he’s the MVP. But even then, you will get people and a lot of people pushing back that it was his weapons, not really him. I don’t think winning in spite, I think you could maybe say that after the Packers game when he objectively did not play well early on.

But if he plays the stand that he did throughout the regular season and they win the Super Bowl, I don’t think anybody will be saying they won in spite of him. I think they’ll just be saying he wasn’t the driving force behind them winning. It’s the whole game manager type of thing.

Of argument and discussion. But I think there were, you know, a number of voices in kind of football sports media saying, let’s, let’s give this guy credit for what he’s doing because the numbers, the efficiency, the lack of turnovers for the most part, QB ratings, like, you know, he, he’s,

He’s put himself in a, some pretty impressive lists in terms of, like, number of games that players had with this many touchdowns and this QB rating and this efficiency and this, that. And I think that should be respected. But there’s always going to be that part of you that’s like, okay,

If you didn’t have Debo and Ayuk and Kittle and McCaffrey… Well, you didn’t have Debo last game, and they still won. And I think what really… where this is really going to matter is like eventually going to have to pay him or somebody’s going to have to pay him.

And that’s when you really get a sense of, okay, how is this guy valued by his own franchise? Four years, 4 million. He’s going to be Superbowl MVP. He’s going to get five years, 10 million. And they continue to build around them. He makes less money than a lot of quarterbacks that

Have transferred this offseason in college football, right? He makes $799,000 or $800,000. Archie Manning made like four times as much as Brock Purdy at Texas. And he didn’t have like, he played like what? Five snaps? It’s crazy. All right. Pitchers and catchers, by the way, reporting in 20 days.

We will get into that over the next couple of hours as well. Darnay, how can our listeners catch sports wrap here tonight? NBC San Diego Roku channel Mondays at nine o’clock. So you can catch the replay then. Love it. Darnay. Great catching up. Good to see you, my friend. Thanks guys. Travel safely.

All right. On the other side, speaking of Brock pretty detractors, ESPN’s Ryan Clark, Adam to the list. We have great giveaways today. Aztec tickets against Wyoming, Janet Jackson and Nelly concert tickets as well. We’re just getting started. Stay with us on John and Jim. 20 days out from pitchers and catchers.

The latest when it comes to Padres rumors, plus Ryan Clark from ESPN, the latest to take a shot at Brock Purdy. That’s next. All right, this update is brought to you by the West Automotive Group. Aztecs, they lost to Boise State over the weekend, 67-66. They return home tomorrow

Night to take on Wyoming, 6 p.m. tip-off. Of course, you can listen to that game right here on San Diego Sports 760. And the championship games are set. In the NFL for next Sunday, it will be the Chiefs and the Ravens, followed by the Lions and the 49ers for a chance to

All right, we’ve got Aztec tickets to give

Away for tomorrow night. Jim just mentioned the game. Six o’clock is the start. Pre-game coverage at five, which means Jim has a short show. Now, he doesn’t realize we are broadcasting from outside of Viejas tomorrow, but you can leave at 4.54, I would say. So you have about an hour and 54 minutes.

What if it’s pouring rain? It’s not supposed to rain. Okay, cool. But if it is pouring rain, we’re definitely broadcasting outside. You text me this morning like, hey, you want to broadcast from outside today? Yeah, we should. Can I go to the game gym? Oh, yeah, you’ll be there.

Yeah, that’s a really good question. Well, I don’t worry about jinxes because I went to a game this year. I went to two games this year already. What are the two games you went to? The opening day and then none other? Oh, yeah, I went to one game this year. Okay,

So you’ve been to one game in the last, what, three years? You’re looking at me like you’re going to kill me. Anyway, we’ll be broadcasting outside VA house arena. It will be 61 and partly sunny. Okay. Okay. So we’ll be there. Six o’clock is the tip time. Let’s do this.

We will give away Aztec tickets for tomorrow night in the next 10 minutes. So do not go anywhere. Be listening. We’ll let you know how to win those tickets before we get to what Ryan Clark had to say about Brock Purdy. Related because if you’re sticking around, you’re looking for Padres rumors. Okay.

Here’s honestly, here’s a summation of the last week. You’ve got what John Morosi said about Alec Manoa, who might be expendable with Toronto. You have what Mike Farron, MLB Network Radio, totals within the last week, which is keep an eye on Jesus Lizardo, starter with Miami. You have John Heyman’s tweet

Within the last week that said, second-tier starting pitching, the Padres, among three or four other teams, are in on. James Paxton types, Michael Lorenzen types. You have a fake rumor about potentially Luis Uribe? Fake rumor about Luis Arias. Thank you. But this is why we call them rumors.

But there are four or five or six names that have been theorized over the last week or so. We’re 20 days from pitchers and catchers. Super Bowl Sunday. Jim had the infamous tweet about a week ago. They still need left fielders and center fielders and starting pitchers and this, that, and the other.

But 20 days, Jim. Rumors are out there, but nothing. It’s not just the Padres, by the way. There have been a team or two that have been active, like the Dodgers, obviously. But Padres, along with half of baseball, have basically done nothing. Yeah. I mean, you just kind of sit and you’re waiting.

And each day that passes, you get a little more anxious and a little more anxious because of how many holes they have on this roster. And you just are thinking to yourself, okay, Is this team really going to go into spring training with two outfielders on their 40-man? No.

Well, that’s what creeps into your mind, that every day passes without them making a move. Like, it’s a question. I’m not saying it’s actually going to happen, but asking the question to yourself, are they really going to do that? No, they can’t do that, right? Are they really? Okay, seven days away,

Still two outfielders on their 40-man. Okay, they’re really not going to do that, are they? If they get to the start of spring training and they don’t have more than Fernando Tatis Jr. or Jose Azocar on their 40 men in the outfield, you start getting a little nervous because everything is accelerated.

You start on March, middle of March in Korea. So it’s not like you can prepare and all of a sudden you have to have like a advanced wrap up here to get to Korea. Then you’re getting there and you have to acclimate yourself for at least a week and

Is it like home alone? They’re going to get to Korea. Like we forgot the outfield. Oh no. Oh my gosh. We only have two of these guys. Congratulations to you, John, for making a quality movie reference. That made sense. It makes sense. That’s a key. Or what would he say?

Jose, we forgot you. That’s exactly. Where are you? Okay. Dude, your point is valid. It’s who are they going to have? It’s who are they going to have? It’s not will they. It’s who are they going to have? Are they going to have Jacob Marcy or are they going to

Have somebody they acquire via trade or free agency? And that’s not even the most intriguing part of spring training to me. What’s the most intriguing part of spring training? Easily, no questions asked, 100%. Eric Cassandra. Eric Cassandra. When he speaks, that is going to be the most intriguing aspect to

Me of spring training. Then after that would be the roster, okay? And the rotation and all that stuff. But hearing from Eric Cassandra, Whenever he’s going to speak, Dennis Lynn says he will speak officially before or during spring training or before the start of the year, obviously. What’s he going to say?

What’s he going to sound like? How’s he going to look? All of those things to me are so intriguing. Is he seven feet tall? Is he 4’11”? Like, I am so fascinated. Does he have this huge beard? Is he like ZZ Top by the time we see him? Because his one head shot,

He’s clean shaven. Yeah, looks very… I mean, aren’t you fascinated by even like what he’s going to look like? Or what he’s going to sound like? Oh, yeah. This guy will be the point person and the chairman of the baseball team for the foreseeable future, whether that be the next

Just year or two years or five years, whenever they figure out a succession plan or if they’re not going to do anything like that, even though I know that the wishes of Peter was to keep the team in a Seidler’s name. Mm-hmm. this guy’s not going anywhere.

He’s not going to all of a sudden speak. And then they’re going to boom, replace him with, you know, a sidler or whatever. He’s going to be the guy. And to hear him speak, how he talks about the team, the spending of the team passing. I mean,

I think one of your first public comments is, How has this offseason been? And what is the impact of Peter Seidler on this franchise? I mean, you got some really impactful things to say when you meet the media for the first time ever. And you got a lot to convey

That is going to be dissected. What you say is going to be played over and over and over again. And maybe he says everything beautifully. I thought his statement eight or nine weeks ago was spectacular, but it was only a statement from the organization. What’s he going to say when

He’s put in front of the media? Yeah, because… what he says will carry a lot of weight. If, if they’re talking about a lot about spending and cost control and, and all that, and don’t expect much as far from the future of them going out and spending money like they used to,

Or at least even spending close to what they used to, um, making big time moves to potentially add a lot of payroll. I, It’s going to be fascinating because that alone right there, whatever he says and whatever questions that are asked to him and how he responds is going to tell a lot.

I think about the immediate future of this team going forward. I agree. All right. So Jim, before the show goes, did you hear what Ryan Clark had to say? I’m like, no. And even if I did have to hear what Ryan Clark had to say, I don’t overly. The thing is,

I feel like ESPN has done a good job. Darren, I think, has talked about this. They’ve done a good job of making their personalities the story. Like, oh, Stephen, I said this about the Cowboys. Oh, yeah. Okay. They are. That’s their job. I know, but now Ryan Clark had this to say

About Brock Purdy, and Jim kind of lost his mind. I didn’t lose my mind. I kind of just was laughing. Like, you told on yourself for saying this. All right, let’s hear it. I’m about to make a confession. The single hardest thing I had to do this year was act like Brock Purdy

Deserved to be in the conversations with the other people we’re mentioning in that tweet. Because he was playing extremely well and operating in that offense and distributing the ball to Kittle and Debo Samuel and Brandon Ayuk, we had to continue to include him in conversations with the Lamar Jacksons.

We had to continue to include him in conversations with the Josh Allen. Those things are not alike. Brock Purdy is a fine player. Brock Purdy can operate in Kyle Shanahan’s offense at an extremely efficient level. Brock Purdy doesn’t raise the level of play of anyone around him.

And so when you talk about Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, The people around them benefit from having those sorts of players at the quarterback position. Brock Purdy benefits from having the sort of players he has at the skill positions around him. And so when we look at that

Game against the Green Bay Packers, even with Jordan Love throwing an inopportune, inexplicable interception to end the game, I was sitting there watching them going, man, the world should be, the NFL world should be excited that Jordan Love doesn’t play for the San Francisco 49ers. And we are starting,

At least in my opinion, to get into the realm the San Francisco 49ers used to be with Jimmy Garoppolo. where it was, yeah, with Kyle Shanahan calling plays, we could be really good. With the players around him, we could be really good. But can our quarterback take us to the next level?

And now that it’s getting down to the critical football moments, to the moments that turn good players into legends, that turn good teams into teams we never forget, you’re starting to see. You don’t take Brock Purdy over Jared Goff right now. And you for sure don’t take Brock Purdy over the two

Dudes on the other side in the AFC. So if you’re the San Francisco 49ers, you’re thinking to yourself right now, this team that we were starting to run through our quarterback, better run through Uncle Shannon’s nephew, Christian McCaffrey. Because if it doesn’t, they’re going to find themselves at home again without a ring.

Man. The hardest thing he had to do this year. Tough life you live, Brian Clark. And by the way, he better hope that the Niners don’t win the Super Bowl because he went pretty strong there that he just said he’s the fourth best quarterback. So if you’re going to win

The Super Bowl with the fourth best quarterback, you’re not going to give him any credit if they win the Super Bowl. It’s going to go all to Kyle Shanahan. Why I say he told on himself there is it’s… it’s pretty blatant that ESPN producers may have been telling people to say things. Right.

And bro, if you say it, that’s on you. Like you just told on yourself, you agreed to go the route. If you felt that strongly about Brock Purdy and how you think he’s average or whatever you’re trying to say about Brock Purdy. then, bro, I’m going to say what I want to say.

I’m not going to have some producer be like, you have to say Brock Purdy’s been good. Like, dude, you just make yourself look, I mean, kind of foolish. If someone tells you something and you don’t believe it and you still say it, that’s on you. Yeah, I agree with that.

So then try to walking it back and saying it’s the hardest thing you had to do this season. Like, give me a break. I agree with you. Okay, on the other side, we’ll get to Is That Good? The best and worst of the sports weekend. But what we’re going to do right now,

Are you still stewing over Ryan Clark? No, because I said a while ago, like, I’m over it. But you’re not, right? No, I really am over it. It’s just, to me, it’s just eye roll. It’s whatever. Let’s get to this. And he played bad. I’m not trying to just say, oh,

He was the greatest quarterback ever. I watched the entire game. He played a bad game. No, he did pull that rabbit out of his hat with the final drive. If he didn’t do that, I mean, you’d never hear the end of it. If he would have thrown a

Pick on that drive or they would have lost, you’d never hear the end of it, but they won. They didn’t lose. Yeah, he played a bad game, but he came up big in the big moment. I agree. Speaking of, 49ers in their third straight NFC championship game, fourth in the last five years.

Is that good? It is good. They’re going to need to win a Superbowl. They’re going to be remembered as a team that just never could get it done. They’re going to have to win at some point. How about Lamar Jackson? This victory for Houston on Saturday, two rushing touchdowns, two passing touchdowns,

Big second half for Baltimore at home. Is he good? He’s good. They were susceptible. Louis 10, 10 at the half. They look unstoppable though, right? Yeah. I mean, their defense only allowed 200 yards. The first half felt like rust. Yes, definitely tight. Yeah. But the second half big return after the,

You think, Hey, return can change things, but no, they dominated it in the second half. Yeah. yeah if they didn’t allow the return they were the one by 30 points yeah they’re really freaking good um patrick mahomes john he’s been a starter in this league for six years

Okay this is his sixth afc championship game wow is that good so they sat him his first year and they still made the playoffs didn’t they Was Alex Smith the quarterback his first year seven years ago? Alex Smith was the quarterback, yeah. Did they make the postseason that year?

I want to say he did. I want to say they did make the postseason that year and they made a face like the Colts. They lost to the Colts. Crazy though. Patrick Mahomes. Amazing. I mean, that was the best game they played all year offensively, it feels like. They look great.

The Bills went on. I don’t think the Bills had any shots to beat the Ravens because the Bills were so decimated on defense. Right. The Chiefs, I think, at least have a chance to beat the Ravens. Well, the Chiefs really fed off being on the road.

This idea, oh, we can’t win on the road. That really motivated them. Clearly, you saw some of the… comments afterwards from Patrick Mahomes. All right. How about the Clippers who continue to play well Sunday against Brooklyn at home? They closed the game on a 22, nothing run. Like you wonder if anyone’s

Ever scored more points in a row to finish a game among those 22 points, Kawhi Leonard, 14 points in the final five minutes Clippers over the Nets with a 22 Oh run to finish. Is that good? What do you think of your Clippers? You’re Clippers. I know they are my Clippers.

By the way, have you seen their new arena? Yeah, Intuit Dome. That thing looks like a multi-multi-billionaire made that thing. And that’s exactly what’s happening. You’re right. That’s exactly right. It looks insane. That’s what it is. I know. And finally, this stat is kind of skewed. Okay.

Because at the start of the fourth quarter, they were trailing by seven, but they hit that field goal. So it was only four, but usually historically, trust me, I’ve watched every single game. If they go into the fourth quarter trailing, they don’t win. And that was the 49ers. They finally won a game

Trailing in the fourth quarter under Kyle Shanahan. They were Owen 30 when trailing by five or more. Yeah. There’s like another, it’s like, there’s a couple of different stats, like Owen 38 when they trail by 10 points, they’re Owen 30 when they trail by five points there. Yeah. So it’s a weird stat,

But they ended up coming back in the game. It was a comeback win and they beat the Packers. Is that good? Yeah. The Owen 30 wasn’t, but if you’re going to find a time to win a game when trailing in the fourth quarter, it would be in the post season. Yeah, pretty much.

Finally, Manny Machado and his wife expecting their first child. Congratulations, Manny. Is that good? Would you like to rip them? Why would I rip them? Just, I mean, you’ve been critical of Manny before. I’m kidding. This guy, are you trying to get me in trouble? A little bit like, Oh,

Manny Machado is having a baby. Who are you going to rep? I’m thinking about the team. Stupid. I want to hit you. Who’s that one guy that did that though? What’s that? Remember we played that a couple of weeks ago. That guy was complaining about Dak having a baby.

The Cowboys, the first round playoffs. Oh yeah. Definitely had to do with dad having a child. Yeah. It’s blame the child. Okay. We will get to the wrap on the other side. Plus in the four o’clock hour, your chance to see Janet Jackson. Nelly will give away tickets coming up during train

Wreck radio five o’clock hour. We’ve got San Diego state Wyoming tickets as well for tomorrow at VA Haas arena. We’ll get to the wrap hour to John and Jim next. J.D. Gaucho, I think you can hear me. Thank you for the Super Chat, man. Guys, if you’re here, please subscribe.

If you’re here, we appreciate the Supers. Just click the dollar sign below the chat box. It’s a good question. We get to our Super Chats during the breaks. Thoughts on San Jose State hiring Ken Niyamata-Lolo. You’re probably glad that that’s a hard name to say, but we’ve said that before.

Yeah, I would not be able to. Yeah, it wouldn’t be good if it was San Diego State. He says, I’m glad he wanted to be a head coach again. He’ll have much more recruiting leeway than he had at Navy. Yeah, highly respected guy. I mean, had a lot of success in the last

Couple of years. It didn’t go well with Navy. I know he was at UCLA last year. I think San Jose State’s been a good program under Brent Brennan the last few years. So I think they have a chance to be successful. They’re not running an option, which makes sense because

It’s hard to run an option. outside of the academies. But no, he’s highly respected. I think they have a chance to continue having a level of success underneath them. I know they wanted a former head coach in that role. So yeah, I think it’s a good hire. I really do.

I think it’s a good hire. We’ll see if he has success. But yeah, the Mountain West has some good coaching right now, including Ken Niumatalolo. So thank you, J.D. Gaccio. We appreciate it, man. We’ll be back in a couple of minutes. And thank you for the super chat. Thanks, man. All right,

Washington Post will join us on the NFL playoffs coming up at 4.30. We had someone off the text line say… Why are you not just solely talking about the NFL today? Who cares about the Padres? After we spent like 45 minutes in the first hour talking about the NFL.

So you can’t really please everyone. No. Also, it’s when people tune in. So I’m sure that person tuned in at the bottom of the hour when we were talking about the Padres and spring training and Eric Cassandra. So to them in their mind, you guys are only talking Padres.

It’s about when you listen. And if you listen to the whole show, which a lot of people don’t, but if you do listen to the whole show, You don’t even listen to the whole show, and you’re on the show. It’s not too far from the truth there. But yeah, we talk NFL, baseball.

Yes, we talk the Padres the most on the show, but… But if you listened, we started the show with the NFL. Honestly, I prefer to talk more Padres. I wish something was happening. But I would have spent more of the first hour on the Padres if something was happening.

To the texter, we would spend more. I know you want more NFL. I’m happy to talk more Padres today than NFL. But if the Padres aren’t doing anything, and you’re a week away from Championship Sunday, and you’re three weeks away from the Super Bowl, I mean, you’re going to talk it all.

We’re a sports radio show. Wait, what? Yeah, you didn’t know that? Breaking news. Gym fact. Are you sure? Um, I’ve checked a couple of times. Yeah. Yeah. We’re sports talk show. I like that. Yeah. All right. This hour, your chance to win tickets, see Janet Jackson and Nelly next hour,

Your chance to win tickets to San Diego state, Wyoming tomorrow night at VA house arena. We’ll get into the game on Saturday as well. Coming up the Aztecs loss in Boise, but a couple of giveaways for you. The next couple of hours, Adam Kilgore from the Washington post on the

Divisional round and now championship Sunday at four 30. And right now let’s get to this. Rank the four remaining quarterbacks left in the NFL playoffs. Mahomes, Lamar, Goff, and Purdy. Are you surprised by that? No, because you would never… You hate to jinx anything. No, I’m being dead serious.

Goff has made a Super Bowl. Purdy has not. That’s why. Okay. That makes sense. Okay, yeah. I agree. I would rank them the exact same way. And until you beat Mahomes in the playoffs… he’s the top and Lamar’s gonna win the MVP. So he’s head of golf and it Purdy in, in golf.

I mean, it’s, it feels like they’re pretty close to each other. How, but But golf’s made a Super Bowl, and Purdy’s got to do it. Well, being in the Final Four is obviously an accomplishment in itself, and you’re going to have to rank someone fourth. And yeah, I mean, obviously, Mahomes has won.

Jackson hasn’t had success in the postseason. He won his second game this past week, and then there’s golf, and then there’s Purdy. And that’s not saying Purdy’s awful. It’s just saying there’s four guys, and somebody’s got to be ranked fourth. By the way, if Purdy wins this weekend, he’s going to be ranked

Second against either Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes. That’s just how it’s going to work. Yeah, it’s pretty simple. Next question. You screwed up. That could have been a pun. It’s pretty simple. Oh, I like that. Next question. Would you like to see the Padres’ top prospect, Ethan Salas,

In the big leagues in 2024? No. I don’t want to see him anywhere near the big leagues in 2024, no matter what. I really don’t want to see him anywhere near the big leagues in 2025, if I’m being honest with you. The closest timetable for him, I think, should be 2026 because he’s

Still very young, very raw. He has all the talent in the world. You develop him the right way and you don’t rush him through your system. This guy could be a generational talent for you. a la like Fernando Tatis Jr. So you don’t want to screw this up.

And you already have a very, very good young controller catcher at the big league level in Luis Campisano. What if Luis Campisano, the next two years, turns out to be a stud? Then is there going to be this rush to bring up Ethan Salas? Probably not. Because then where do you

Put Luis Campisano? Right. So Campisano is controllable for the next five years. I think I have that right. He’s not a free agent until 2029. So he’s controllable for the next four or five years. Yeah, I don’t want to see him in 2024. I don’t think that’s right by him. He’s 17.

So he’ll be 18 at the beginning of the year. I don’t think it makes any sense to promote him in 2024. I could have a different conversation about 2025 based on what he does in 2024, but I 2024, you’re just trying to win headlines, and I don’t think you’re

Trying to win games if you put Ethan Salas up. And I think you’re doing a disservice to the player because what 18-year-old is primed and ready to catch in the big leagues? Nobody really in the last 30 years has done that. So I think you’ve got to wait until at least 2025,

And we’ll see what he does in 2024. We have a signing in baseball. We have movement. Wow. Movement, John. Well, we’ll get to it after the wrap. What’s next? Will Josh Allen ever win a Super Bowl? Well, he might win a Super Bowl, but I don’t know if he’s

Going to do it with the Bills. It felt like that was their best chance to at least get over the Mahomes hump last night. I don’t think they would have gotten past the Ravens. I just don’t. I think their defense was too hurt on the road. Josh Allen makes mistakes a lot,

And he has never been there to get over that hump in the Super Bowl. But you look at his cap hit next year, John, it goes from like 18 million this year to like 47 million next year. There’s still a lot of holes on that team. I don’t know, man.

At some point, it becomes a mental thing. I think he’s talented enough to be the driving force in a team winning a Super Bowl, but as of right now, the bills, I don’t know if that iteration of the bills can do it. They need to change a lot of things. Yeah.

I mean, I would just say, first of all, it’s hard to win a Superbowl and it’s kind of like being blocked by Michael Jordan. Yeah. It’s like being blocked by a player, but not just that. It’s like when you’re in an organization and if, If Ryan Sandberg’s the shortstop and you’re a

Shortstop prospect for the Cubs, it’s hard to become the Cubs shortstop. And it’s like if Patrick Mahomes is in your conference and you’re 0-3 against him in the postseason, not to say it’ll be like that forever, but Mahomes is a pup like Allen. I mean, Mahomes can do this for the next decade.

So it’s possible, but it’s not like I would call it likely at this point based on what I’ve seen. You had to bring up Sandberg. I did. And by the way, wishing him well because he’s got prostate cancer. Yes, I saw that today. He’s my favorite cub of all time.

All right, next question. Are you concerned with the Aztecs’ loss at Boise? I’m not not concerned. So that means you’re concerned. Yes, I’m a little. I’m a little because… at some point you’re going to have to win a road game here. You’re going to have to go on three. I know,

But like in the mountain West conference right now, one against the good teams, like San Jose state was a very close win that if it wasn’t for Jay Powell, they would have probably maybe lost that game. And if it wasn’t for Brock Purdy’s final drive, the Niners would have lost too.

It was a close game. And they have not beaten New Mexico and Boise. Those teams right now are viewed as teams that potentially could win the conference. San Jose State’s not. Is New Mexico beating on the road? I don’t know. The answer is Air Force. And that’s it.

I would like to see them win a road game on the road versus like a top team in the Mount West conference. I’m not saying that that team is like bad or anything. I’m just saying, you know, the, the last two big road tests they had first in Mexico and Boise state.

Would you say they played well? Cause I would say they haven’t. Well, I think they played. I think they played as to be expected against Boise state. You got to ask yourself who needs these games more. New Mexico season was on the line a week ago at the pit. They won the game.

They had all the motivation in the world. They needed a marquee home quad one, win Boise state. Sitting on the bubble needs the game more than San Diego State. That doesn’t excuse, you know, that doesn’t mean you can just afford to lose necessarily, but losing by one in Boise

Was basically an expected result. And you look around the country, number three loses. That’s Kansas at West Virginia. Number seven, Duke loses at home to Pitt. Number nine, Baylor loses on the road to Texas. It’s hard to win on the road. There aren’t a lot of teams in the country outside the

Top 25 that have more than three road wins this year. So your point’s valid. Who wins on the road will determine who wins the regular season Mountain West title, but there’s not a lot of teams that have won on the road in the league against the top six. Nobody’s won at Viejas.

Nobody’s won at the pit, right? Like it’s not going to be easy to earn those wins. it just puts more pressure on this team to almost be perfect at home when you can’t get that road win over a top team in your conference. That is a quad one game that

Is in a must win type of situation for like Boise and New Mexico. We saw it versus those two teams. for those two teams, the Aztecs coming into town was like their Super Bowl. And you got to overcome those things. You have to go in there and

Live up to the billing of, all right, we’re the big bag dogs in this conference. We have been for a long time. We just came off a national championship appearance. Just because you need this game badly doesn’t mean that we’re going to excuse having this loss. I hear what you’re saying. I mean,

New Mexico is favored and won by more than they were favored by. That was a bad game for them in the second half. San Diego State was a pick-em, and Boise State won by one at home. I think Ken Palm had Boise State winning by one going into the game,

So that’s basically an expected result. You have four more opportunities against high-level Mountain West teams on the road. You’ve got Nevada… You have Colorado State. You have Utah State. You have UNLV. So among those four, yeah, you’re going to need to get one or two to win the regular season Mountain West title,

In my opinion. But you don’t need to win three or four is the point because nobody’s going through this league with two or three overall losses. They at worst can’t lose. They have to go two and two at worst, in my mind. Yeah. maybe because if they go one and three,

They could be 13 and five in the league. And that probably wins the league. But then that still means John that they need to basically be perfect at home. But that’s why I said, maybe depending on what they do at home is dependent, depending on what they need to do on the road.

I get the point. Listen, it’s a hard league. It’s hard to win on the road. It’s like, it’s funny when a team like Kansas loses on the road, like, Oh, it’s the big 12. It’s part of it. But then when a team in the Mountain West loses on the road,

You can’t lose those games on the road. You got to win. I say they can’t lose those games. I said that it’d be nice to see them win those games. Sure. If they lost to San Jose State on the road, you can’t lose to San Jose State on the road. Sure.

But if you lose to Boise State or New Mexico with how well those both teams played this year, It’s not like the end of the world, but it’s also a result that if you’re an Aztecs fan, you’re just completely okay with. It’s not the end of the world,

But still you’re looking at it like, I don’t like that. I don’t like the trend here. I don’t like a possible trend happening. This team has not played well in conference play on the road this year. They haven’t. Give me one game on the road this year that they were dominant.

It’s going to be hard. I mean, the road is… That’s the hardest part of college basketball. And in a good league, winning on the road is going to be hard, right? I know it is. Who has won multiple games on the road in the Mountain West this year?

I think the answer is no one. Well, the Aztecs, there is a standard. And I understand that, you know, it’s maybe unfair to put them there. Yeah, I think it’s… Honestly, and I’m not saying you, because I think most… I think most Aztec fans agree with what you’re saying. I think…

In my opinion, based on Saturday, there’s an extreme overreaction. Extreme. The metrics didn’t even move. So this, oh my gosh, it’s a, and you’re not saying this, but people said bad loss. You have to win these games. Metrically, they’re in the exact same spot. I’ve never seen that before.

You know what I mean? They’re fine. If you’re going to win the regular season title, you’ll have to win a game or two on the road. That is fair. Aroldis Chapman has signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates of all teams. I mean, he’s kind of done, right? He’s old and tired at this point,

Isn’t he? It’s not a big time signing, in my opinion. What’s he get? One year, $10 million. One year, $10.5 million. The Pirates are in agreement with a role as Chapman. A bizarre move, but now some free agents are coming off the board over the last couple of days.

But a role as Chapman to the Pirates? Eh, right? $10 million? Wow. That’s a large sum for a guy that… I mean, what did he do last year with the Royals? He’s so old, isn’t he? I think he was okay with the Royals last year, right? So he’s 36. He had a 309.

Six saves, 61 games. But that type of pitcher gets you $10 million. Yeah. That’s wild to me. It is to me, too. And it just shows that anybody thinking the market’s going to go down… good luck because that’s kind of what AJ Preller said. Exactly. What he was waiting for is

The market to go down. That’s, that’s from his mouth, not mine. Like he said it in December is, or maybe the beginning of January. I forget when that their plan was to wait for the market and prices on players to go down. Doesn’t look like they’re going down. Does not look like they’re

Going down much. And the good news is he doesn’t really need a reliever. 10.5 for Chapman is just a weird deal in general. One year, 10.5? To serve what role if you’re Pittsburgh? To trade him at the deadline to get prospects. Maybe, I guess so, yeah. To pay him half that money

For four months and then trade him, I guess. They’re not going to contend. It’s like at the Royals last year. Did he get traded last year from the Royals? That’s a good question. Let’s see, a year ago. I don’t remember. I think he did. Yeah, because he was with the Texas Rangers.

Oh, that’s right. And he made nine postseason appearances for the Rangers. How did I forget that? And he was good in the postseason. So what the Royals did last year is what I think the Pittsburgh Pirates are going to do this year. You have Rollis Chapman be their closer.

Performs well for you, boom, trade him at the deadline to a contender. Get some prospects back. Yeah, in the regular season, he wasn’t good with Texas. Now he’s fine. 3-7-2 in 30 games, but that’s not overly impressive for a late-inning guy, but he pitched well in the postseason.

I think the Padres were a team rumored to be on a roll as Chapman last year. In the offseason? At the deadline. I remember there were a lot of people that were critical because of… off field issues previously in chapman’s career but yeah one year 10 and a half

Million what did we see on friday what was the big move what have we seen oh we saw hater for 95 yeah we saw so yeah there’s been some movement i mean again there’s a lot of players out there the big names what bellinger chapman snell who else am i missing

Uh montgomery and jordan montgomery those are your biggest names left tommy fam maybe it would be a tier below tier below that There’s still a lot of free agents left. Yeah, there are. A lot. Yep. But I don’t know. We’ll figure it out. And there’s also, I think,

Moves to be made in the trade market as well. Oh, absolutely. I don’t know if teams are actually going to pull the trigger. Yeah, no, I agree. Anthony Rendon, do we have the sound? So Anthony Rendon, of all people to say this. Now, you could say that the point is valid.

I just wouldn’t say it if I was Anthony Rendon. Like an actual baseman? He’s on this massive deal. He never plays because of injury. I was just going to say, you know how many games he’s played since 2020? Never more than 50 in a year, probably. 52, 58, 47, and 43.

He never plays, but he wants the season to be shortened. Here’s Anthony Rendon. If you could change one thing about Major League Baseball, if I gave you that power, what would you do? I’m going to say something very lighthearted so I don’t get in trouble when I get to spring training.

So I’m going to give you all an Anthony Rendon answer. The first of the day, hopefully. Yeah. We got to shorten the season, man. It’s too many dang games. 162 games in 185 three days or whatever it is. Man. No. We got to shorten this bad boy up. Let’s go.

What do you think of that? I wouldn’t say it if I was him, but I agree that probably a lot of people feel the same way. Now, are you going from 162 to 154, which is what it used to be until the 60s? Okay, I could live with it.

Are you going to 144? Okay, that’s AAA baseball. Are you going to like 60, like 2020 for Rendon? I mean, I’m okay with them going from like 162 to 154. Beyond that, I don’t know. Say what you want about Jonathan Papelbon. Okay. But yesterday he tweeted out, I played with Rendon and he

Literally hates baseball. That’s hilarious. Our guys like that. Yeah. It’s long. Isn’t that what you signed up for? Just tell the team you want to play half the season and give back half your salary. He’s not the guy to say it. If Machado said it, it has validity. Because he plays every day.

Yeah. He plays every day. But a guy that never plays because he’s always injured. That’s the thing. And I didn’t say he swindled the Angels. But he kind of swindled the Angels. A little bit, yeah. I mean, it’s not his fault that he gets injured. I agree. He’s just injured.

It’s not like he doesn’t want to play. But hey, he says he hates baseball. Some of these guys having road buses with some of these guys for years, some guys do not like it. I’m telling you. They don’t like it. They’re good at it. It doesn’t mean they love it.

Some guys are in love with it. Other guys do it as a means to an end. Yeah. I… it’s where I kind of agree with Rendon on the fact that like, I do think baseball is a, it’s just a, it’s a, it’s a sport that is the great part is,

Is every day, but also it’s every day. Sure. Like it’s every single day and a hundred, like you said, 150 games, 155 games, I think would benefit the sport. Maybe, maybe, but, but yeah, I’m not also not a player. And if I was a player getting paid, 15 million dollars a year

Like that’s pretty good i’m not going to go out there and complain about how many games there are no because to your point i think if if the owners decided there there will be less games then the players will make less money if you took 4.5 percent of games away they

Will earn 4.5 percent less i promise you that therefore you’re never going off 162 that’s why it’s going to be 162 for forever unless they changed it to where the money scale does not change but that’s just a whole but then it’s like then the owners are out you know, home revenue.

Look at when they were locked out. That was one of their biggest arguing points is how much money they were going to get paid for the length of the seasons. Or even the COVID year. Like, oh, we want to be paid in full. Well, you’re only playing 60 games.

So we can’t pay you in full if you’re playing only 60 games. Dude, baseball has the, like, the relationship between the players association and the sport is just… At times, it’s the worst because they can never agree on anything, and the player at times doesn’t get what the league wants,

And the league doesn’t get what the player wants, and then it’s just a lot, man. If you were shortening the season, would you shorten it at the front, as in start games in Chicago April 12th as opposed to March 30th, or cut it off at the back and start your postseason

Like September 25th, not October 7th? Probably the front. Yeah. I’d start later. So we don’t have all these snow opening games, you know, going on and 30 degree weather. And, you know, cause heaven forbid MLB just accounts for that. And it’s like, okay, dome teams, you’re all playing at home

For the first two weeks. Why are the Cubs hosting the Brewers? Not the opposite. Yeah, exactly. Because now the world series ends the beginning of November. Yeah. And before it was like middle of October and then they expanded the postseason. Yes, that’s exactly right. So, yeah, it’s with all sports.

The reason why these seasons are so long, that’s why the NFL is trying to get to 20 games. Yeah, or at least 18. Because of money. The more money you can make, the better. And it’s all they care about. They don’t care about player safety. They don’t care about health.

They don’t care about any of that stuff, right? Families, you’re missing holidays, birthdays, and whatever. Who cares? Are we making money or not? If we’re making money, guess what? We’re going to have the longest season possible. Adam Kilgore, Washington Post. He will join us. He covers the NFL for the Washington Post,

His thoughts of the divisional round and the final four teams standing. Plus, later this hour, your chance to win tickets to see Janet Jackson and Nellie at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheater on June 6th. But Adam Kilgore on the NFL Postseason will join us next. Thanks, Eddie, for the super chat.

It says, question for me. With current athletes, Pokemon alter egos. Snorlax, Magikarp, Mr. Mime, Charizard. Which current athletes Pokemon… Oh, so like I got to… Who’s Snorlax in sports? Right. Who is Snorlax? He’s like the fat one. The lazy one. Okay. Who’s fat and lazy in sports? Oh, look at Snorlax.

He’s fat and lazy. Very large. Snorlax. Who’s Snorlax? I’ll go Zion Williamson as Snorlax. Okay. Magikarp. He literally does nothing. He’s a fish. Yeah, he’s a fish, but he does nothing. I don’t know. Who does nothing? Who does nothing? I don’t know. Kadarius Tony. Okay. Mr. Mime. These are hard. I don’t know.

What’s Mr. Mime known for? It’s a mime. This guy? Yeah. I don’t know. Charizard, Patrick Mahomes. There you go. Thanks for the super, Eddie. Really appreciate it, buddy. Make sure you guys like and subscribe, and we’ll be back after this. Nice job, Jim. Magic heart based Rendon, yes. All right. Adam Kilgore,

We have Aztec Wyoming tickets to give away for tomorrow night at Viejas Arena. We’ll do that in the five o’clock hour. Of course, we’ve been talking divisional

Round and now championship Sunday. And Adam Kilgore covers the NFL for the Washington Post is with us right now in San Diego. I’m John and Jim. So, Adam, we appreciate your time. We spend a lot of time here because my co-host Jim is a Huge Niners fan. We’re in California talking

About the Niners. The Niners coming off this win over the Packers. Is the lead, like, is the criticism of Brock Purdy warranted, considering he led the Niners to a come-from-behind win? Yes, it wasn’t perfect early, but he found a way. So why is the lead being critical of Purdy,

Considering he was able to pull it out? Yeah, so I would say, I guess, you know, it depends on what exactly the criticism is. You know, I do think that it exposed a very specific flaw that pretty has, which is he can’t really play quarterback in the rain very well.

I don’t, you know, I don’t know if it goes from like his upbringing in Arizona or the fact that like, you know, I think it’s hand measured pretty small, the combine. But that was not the first time that he’s been dealt like some, some like bad weather and

Precipitation and did not handle it well. And so that would actually concern me if there’s rain next weekend, which I don’t think there’s supposed to be the forecast, but you know, the weather changes in that part of the country frequently. Um, so anyway, so yeah, I mean, uh, I,

I guess, you know, yeah, like he did not play, uh, well for a lot of that game, but, um, I don’t think the overall point of the, of his performance should be like to criticize him. I think he should be, um, you know, if anything praise for the way, uh, he,

You know, showed some resilience and, um, you know, did not, uh, sort of shrink from the moment. And in fact, um, you know, played his very best, uh, when the 49ers like really needed it. and put together a great drive to win the game. That doesn’t get you clicks, Adam.

You’ve got to criticize Purdy, and that’s going to generate the most clicks and discourse on the internet. It really is true. He can’t win in the race. I think we’ve talked about Purdy before on this show, you guys. He is a good quarterback, and his skills are certainly heightened by the

Talent around him and the system he plays in. But the latter does not diminish the former. He’s good. He’s not the best quarterback in the NFL. I guess there could be a good argument of where he slots in, but he’s better than average. I wouldn’t put him in the very top tier,

But he’s sort of knocking on that door maybe with a little more experience. And at his best, because of the system and the people around him, when he’s playing his best, he is as functionally as like any quarterback in the league as far as, you know, within what he’s being

Asked to do and what he can do. Yeah, no, I agree with you. The rain definitely is a problem, but good for them. It’s going to be 68 and sunny in the forecast for Sunday. The team that they’re playing, Adam, the Lions, a perennial loser franchise over the course of their existence.

And now in the NFC championship game, they are rolling on. I mean, they kind of remind me a little bit actually a lot of it of the 49ers, a lot of weapons, a quarterback who you wouldn’t consider like an elite level quarterback, but he can, when he’s rolling, he’s, he looks damn good.

Um, for you, how, how do you view the lions going up against the Niners this Sunday? Yeah. I would say the other similarity between those two teams is that the lions will, will, will beat you up. You know, they play, play pretty physical brand of football,

Which is what the Niners do as well. Um, Yeah, no, I mean, I think it’s going to be a great game. I don’t think, you know, I think the Niners are a significant favorite for good reason. You know, I do think the Lions are a little bit thin at cornerback. After Aiden Hutchinson,

Who’s been playing great, you know, they don’t have, like, waves of pass rushers. So if Trent Williams can sort of, you know, keep Hutchinson down – you know, then I don’t know if the Lions have a lot else they’re going to be able to do with their pass rush, you know, consistently.

Although Alina McNeil is coming on as an interior rusher for the Lions. But, you know, so I think that the Lions just have like a couple more flaws than the Niners. And those are like, will probably be the difference in my mind. But, you know, they’re playing great.

They have an incredible spirit to them. You know, And like you mentioned about Goff, like Goff is playing really well right now. And it’s only coming from nowhere. I mean, he definitely regressed after he took the Rams to the Super Bowl based on sort of Bill Belichick, like showing the league how

To play that offense in the Super Bowl. But he’s like really rebuilt himself with Detroit and he’s confident and he’s always had arm talent. I mean, he’s, you know, the first pick in the draft, you know, so like the sort of like pedigree is certainly there. And he’s got a lot of confidence.

And I think, you know, one thing that’s obvious is that the team really believes in him. You know, I think that, and the coach believes in him too. And I think, you know, the way that Dan Campbell, you know, is sort of able to instill confidence and belief in

His players is one of his biggest strengths. Adam Kilgore, Washington Post with us right now. John and Jim, San Diego Sports 760. We’ve seen like pre-Super Bowl lines for all possible matchups. And as it stands right now, I believe San Francisco would be favored against both Kansas City and Baltimore.

Would you believe that to be the case if San Francisco gets there? Will they be the Super Bowl favorite, even though they’ve lost to Baltimore in the regular season and Kansas City has Patrick Mahomes? Yeah, I think that, I believe that. I mean, I think that all year long, they, that, you know,

The Niners have been given like the most respect from, from Vegas. You know, and people are going to say like, that’s crazy. Like the Niners got killed, you know, they lost, I think it was 33-19 when they played the Ravens at home. But, you know, I mean, that game, you know,

The Niners committed five turnovers, which, you know, it’s not like a fluke reason the Ravens won that game, like the Ravens kick their butts and force those turnovers, but that’s not really a formula that is going to be sustainable from one game to the next.

So a little bit of variance in that game. But yeah, I think that it doesn’t surprise me based on the perception of the team and the way it’s been all year, but I do think no one’s playing better than the Ravens. They just have star-level talent at every level of their

Defense and at every level of their offense as well. And no one’s playing better than Lamar Jackson right now, even Patrick Mahomes. I wouldn’t say that Lamar is better than Mahomes or vice versa, but they’re neck and neck right now as far as who’s the best player in the league,

Which is what makes next week’s game so awesome because I think whoever wins that game kind of gets the crown. looking at the game between the Ravens and the chiefs, it’s pretty easy for everyone. Like you said, like, okay, the Ravens, they’re rolling. They just beat the crap out of the Texans.

They have been, you know, statistically one of the best teams in the league from like an historical standpoint. Um, but you look at Patrick Mahomes, and he was counted out versus the Bills. They won that game. He has the best defense that he’s ever had in the six times he’s been to the

Playoffs in the AFC Championship in his entire career. Is it wrong to just say that, oh, yeah, the Ravens are going to win that game, or do you think that the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes could pull this one off? Well, yeah. I mean, I think it definitely would be

Wrong to dismiss the Chiefs chances to win the game. You know, they have, like you said, I mean, you laid that out perfectly and very simply. They got Patrick Mahomes. They got, you know, probably the best defense. No, not probably. They do have the best defense they’ve had since Mahomes became the starting

Quarterback there six years ago. They’ve got Andy Reid. They’ve got, you know, Travis Kelsey, who I think really looks for juveniles. I think him sitting week 18 really got him closer to the player that he’s been the last, you know, seven, eight years. But, and so all of those reasons, you know,

That makes me really uncomfortable to pick against the chiefs. Like I, you know, the dumbest and worst thing to do is like being in Patrick Mahomes in any situation. But I think if I had to pick that game, I would pick the Ravens there at home. Like I mentioned before,

Like Jackson is just playing out of this world. And as good as the chief defense is playing, the Ravens defense is playing even better. Like that, that might be, the best unit that’s remaining in the tournament. You could say that Kyle Hamilton is one of the five best defensive backs, safety or corner,

In the whole league. Roquan Smith, it’s probably a really dead heat between him and Fred Warner for the best linebacker, off-ball linebacker in the NFL. Justin Matabike, not a name that I think is really well-known nationally, but He’s a top five, modestly, I think, defensive tackle in the NFL right now.

So they just have elite, elite players at every level, plus a lot of really good veterans, plus maybe the hottest defensive coordinator in the league right now in Mike McDonald. And you pair that with Lamar Jackson, who has mastered all the nuances of the quarterback this year in a way he

Hadn’t under Greg Roman. now that he’s got Todd Monken as offensive coordinator. I just think the Ravens are operating at just an unbelievably high level. And as much as I hate to go against Mahomes, I really do think that they’re going to break through and win on Sunday. Sunday it is.

Championship Sunday and the NFL winners, of course, in the Super Bowl in Vegas two weeks from this upcoming Sunday. Adam, we appreciate your time with us here in San Diego. Thanks for doing it. All right, thank you. All right, Adam Kilgore with the Washington Post. Just looking at the Cancun playoffs, Bills,

Bucks, Texans, Packers, I feel like that would be a good round robin in Cancun. Who won the Cancun playoff between the Cowboys and Eagles? That was a tie. Both teams missed a field goal in overtime. But in the playoffs… In Cancun, you can tie. But then what happens next week?

They stay in Cancun. So you don’t advance to a different part of Cancun? You could, I guess. I kind of like Packers-Bills might be a good game. Cancun Super Bowl? Packers-Bucks? They’re going to have a potato sack race at the Pro Bowl to determine the winner. Yeah, exactly.

I think they are going to have a potato sack race. I think you’re right. All right, call right now if you want two free tickets. This is a great giveaway. Janet Jackson with Nelly. This June, North Island Credit Union Amphitheater. First two callers will be our contestants. Trainwreck Radio, 877-767-4760.

This is two free tickets to see Janet Jackson and Nelly at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheater June 6th. Tickets at LiveNation.com. 877-767-4760. First two callers will be our contestants. Trainwreck Radio next. All right. In the most predictable thing ever before we get to train wreck radio, you’ll hear from Colin Cowherd.

He’ll scare Jim coming up at 5 PM about the NFC title game. But the most predictable thing ever. Nobody else can scare me as much as I’m already scared for it. No one can scare me anymore. You’re like a dog that sees its shadow. Or like chasing its own tail or something.

Yes, no matter what anybody says, I’m still going to be nervous as hell. And Brock Purdy is, after his last game, like, I’m nervous. But it’s not raining. Anyway, Tyler bad. No Debo. This is shocking. Tyler Bass, Buffalo kicker misses the kick. Shockingly, he’s received death threats on social media.

And then more shockingly, he’s deleted his social media. Yeah. Cause this ever played out before. Cause Buffalo bills fans. have no lives and they’re a bunch of you think if the niners kicker missed a field goal the niners kicker would not get death threats i don’t i think he

Would yeah i think that’s the nfl man there’s millions of fans i know so i don’t even know if these if the threats came from like someone in the city of buffalo but yeah he had social media if you’re a kicker here’s the rule you can’t have social media and

Make the kick and make the kick you have one job it’s not hard oh wait it kind of is dude it’s very hard yeah it is whatever happened with that kick it like it looked like the wind maybe took it but then you looked at the goal post

There was no wind like with the little like whatever he just missed it like he knuckled he um he had a fade he had a fade he had a power fade it might have worked for like tory Yeah, it’s such a hard thing, dude. I mean, when you miss that kick and then

You hear Jim Nance go wide right, if you’re a Bills fan, you’re literally throwing up. No, you’re fine. You’re throwing up. You had PTSD flashbacks. Oh, yeah, especially if you’re a 45-year-old. You’re fine. It’s Buffalo. 45, 50-year-old, you’re like, I’m going to throw up right now. It’s just going to work today.

It’s zero degrees. I want the other networks to take a cue from CBS. You know, everyone’s got their little genes, you know, they got their own little skeletor there to do their, you know, booth review questions. Let’s get a place kicker and everything. Jay Feeley’s never been more relevant than he has been

Since he got that job in the booth. Go, hey, Jay, it’s cold out and it’s 60 yarder. Is he going to make it? No, he’ll miss it. Okay, thanks, Jay. Well, Jim, it’s not looking great down here. Wind conditions go back up to you. I found that way more

Entertaining than I probably should have. Man, they asked Gene Sterritore a lot of questions. Like, Gene, was that a catch? Like, yeah. Guys, why don’t you just look at it and make your own opinion, then ask Gene. Let’s get to it. Three questions, two contestants, one lifeline. Today’s two contestants,

We have Corey and Mick. Corey, you called in first, so you have your choice of John or Jim. Who do you want to go with? I don’t know. Oh, man. John or Jim. Jim is good. Jim? Okay. Jim and Corey. All right. Perfect. Mick, you get John, okay? Beautiful.

I don’t know who I want. All right, Brent, what’s today’s question of the day? You sound like the Bears’ war room right now. We don’t know who we want. All right, guys. The conference championship weekend is this Sunday. Today’s question. Name the seven teams in NFL history that have appeared

In 10 or more conference championship games. This isn’t just wins. This is just appearances. So there’s seven teams that have appeared in 10 or more conference championship games. Name them. All right. So, Mick, you’re up first. What is your first guess? And you do have a lifeline, which is John,

If you want to use it. I will go with the Packers. The Packers. Packers, 10 or more, Brent. No. No. All right. Okay. Corey, door’s a little open for you. What’s your first guess? You do have a lifeline if you want to use it. 49ers? 49ers on the list. San Francisco.

Like their 17th NFC championship game. Is that right? Yeah. And Jim’s like, woe is me. It’s been 30 plus years, John. 30 years. Since what? They won a Super Bowl. Oh, it’s their 18th. I don’t care about. Conference championships? I care about my life. And in my lifespan. They’ve won. They’ve won one.

And I don’t remember it. Mick, you’re up. First to Chargers. Mick, you’re up next. What’s your second guess? It’s got to be the Patriots. Patriots. Have they been in 10? Yeah, most of them with Tom Brady. Have they been in more than 10, Brent, or 10 on the nose?

They’ve been in more than 10. 15. Only 15. That’s crazy. Corey, you’re up next. What is your next guess? You have a lifeline if you want to use it. Okay, let’s use my lifeline, please. All right, Corey. I’m going to go with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Do you take that? Pittsburgh Steelers.

Yeah, let’s go with that. Boom on the list. Look at you, man. There we go. Knowledge. Good knowledge. Mick, you need this to stay in the game. What is your next guess? You do have a lifeline if you choose to use it. cowboys cowboys oh no they’ve been a million not

Since 95 though but they were like 17 i know i know i’m just saying like not for 30 years yep what the chiefs and the niners are now me and john’s childhood that was the cowboys every year cory you could walk it off with a win right here or a correct answer excuse

Me you don’t have a lifeline so it’s all up to you what do you got okay uh okay the uh We already picked the Steelers, right? Correct. So you need to pick another team. Okay. Okay. And Dallas was already picked. Correct. Correct. Dallas picked already? Yes. Okay. So let’s go with Green Bay.

Nope. Green Bay has already been picked. One more try. One more try. Buzz it. One more try. Okay. Five seconds. Okay, the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland Browns. No, they’re the Cleveland Browns. No, no. Still tied, Brent. Is it? No, I thought he needed that to stay alive. No,

Corey needed that to walk off to get a win. What’s the score? It’s 2-1. Okay. Nick is up to send us to overtime. Lifeline. As me? Yes, you. I have not been paying any attention to this entire thing. 2-2. And I would like to use my lifeline. Okay. Hold on. It’s two.

Is it two, two or two, one, two, one. I got the Patriots and the Packers. So it’s two to two. The Packers was wrong. The Packers is wrong. How about the Raiders? I’ll say the Raiders. Okay. I’ll go with that. Raiders. boom how about that all right now we’re going to

Overtime we got to get this one quick here cowboys what is happening right now what is going on it’s the corey and mick show what is happening all right let’s get to an overtime question we’re tied explain the overtime rules this is a true train wreck All right,

The way overtime works is I’m going to ask you a question. When I’m done asking the question, you are going to yell out the name of your partner today, not the answer. So you’re going to yell out either John or Jim. Whoever yells out the name of their partner first,

You are either going to win the game by getting the question right or you’re going to lose the game by getting the question wrong. You guys got it? Yep. Yep. All right, today’s overtime question. Who is hosting the NFC Championship game? What do you guys? Jim. I heard Jim. Jim, 49ers.

Who is this? This is Mick. I already got three. No, you didn’t listen. Mick has John. Oh, my. I’m done. Seriously. I got it right. I got three, right? No, you didn’t. The Packers was wrong. Answer it down. Corey. Congratulations. You’ve won two tickets to see Janet Jackson. Nelly rules are rules.

You’ve won two tickets to see Janet Jackson and Nellie North Island credit union amphitheater, June 6th tickets available at live nation.com. Keep listening all week for your chance to win. All right, this update’s brought to you by Staples Stores Aztecs. They are coming off their loss to Boise State this past weekend. They’re back in action tomorrow night at Viejas Arena versus Wyoming, 6 p.m. tip-off. You can list that game right here on San Diego Sports 760. And the AFC and NFC

Championship games are set for this upcoming Sunday. First up, it’ll be the Chiefs taking on the Ravens in Baltimore, followed by the Lions and the Niners in Santa Clara for a chance to head to Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas. And this update’s been brought to you by Staples. All right,

San Diego and Southern California, what’s going on? This is the final hour of John and Jim where we will give away San Diego State Wyoming tickets for tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Viejas Arena. We’ll do that between now and 540, so don’t go anywhere over the next 30 minutes.

Hopefully you are safe out there. I’ve been seeing some videos and footage even from within the last hour. Downtown by Petco, by the MTS lots and all that, and by the trains and transit is completely been underwater. throughout the course of the day. A friend that works at Petco

Park that hooked us up with the suite tickets this past year. Yeah, AJ. No, not AJ. Manny. She sent out a picture today and Petco is flooded. The field is completely flooded. Are you going to send out a tweet if the Padres play today? How are they going to play?

The Padres are just 60 days away from their home opener, and their field’s underwater. And they don’t have any outfielders. Right. They don’t have any outfielders. What are they going to do? Where’s Eric Cassandra? Yeah. Right. Where’s… What’s happening, guys? Yeah, we haven’t heard from Eric Cassandra. Well, Fernando Tatis Jr.

Needs to play on, like, a surfboard. And there’s only two outfielders on the 40-man roster. Yeah, we kind of… Why does this keep moving? Because you don’t tie it on tight enough. You don’t screw it on. Excuse me? Pause. So we started the show. Well, I think we started the show talking

About the divisional playoffs, but we also briefly touched upon this idea that pitchers and catchers report in 20 days on Super Bowl Sunday for the Padres, who opened in less than two months, March 20th in Korea. And they still have all kinds of needs that we’ve talked about all offseason long.

The needs they’ve addressed, bullpen, I would say, with Matsui and Goh. They traded away Juan Soto, added some pieces in that trade, obviously, for their major league roster as well. I mean, they’re not the only team like this, so it’s not like they’re a complete aberration around baseball that they haven’t made moves,

But they really haven’t made moves. It’s such an anti-Preller offseason to this point because he’s been so quiet. Yeah, the moves they made in the bullpen, if you want to argue they’re an upgrade, you can. But the reality is you didn’t really replace Josh Hader. You just kind of are moving

The pieces around and hoping that Robert Suarez returns to 2022 form. Because if Robert Suarez returns to 2022 form and you slot him as the closer, he’s not as good as Josh Hader, but he might be more effective because he might be able to pitch more for you and back-to-back days

And go more than three outs. Who knows? But we don’t really know what Go and Matsui are going to be. So it’s a wait and see from the bullpen perspective. But every other area of this team has not been addressed like it needs to be. You didn’t have a problem in the outfield.

Now you have a problem in the outfield because of the Juan Soto trade. You traded away your two starters. You had a problem in your rotation. Did they address it? Well, I mean, they added Michael King, but they lost Blake Snell. And Seth Lugo and Michael Walker. Right. So did you really address

Your needs in your rotation? No, but again, it’s weird. It’s like talking about a race that isn’t completed. It’s like, well, you’re running a marathon and Jim is trailing John, but you’re at the four-mile marker or something. You never know when someone’s going to turn it on.

The time has nothing to do with it. You can trade tomorrow for anyone. But you’re also pacing at a rate. That’s not great. I don’t know if there’s an off-season transaction pace rate. There’s not because the off-season is always fluid. The season is always fluid until the trade deadline. It’s all fluid.

I get that. Is there a reason for concern? Yeah. To start the year, who’s going to be in the outfield in Korea versus the Dodgers? On opening day. Well, yeah, we said earlier, like, what if they forget the outfielders? Like, oh my gosh. AJ. The one thing we didn’t do, we just,

We literally left the ball behind. Do you feel like we forgot to do something? Where’s Fernando? What did we miss? They’re going to get ready to start the game and they’re just going to be no center fielder. And it’s like, this looks different. No, they’re going to bring Fernando.

They’re not going to forget Fernando. No, they won’t. Or even Jose Zocar. He’ll be there. They’re going to need him. Yeah. Yeah. But they’ll also be looking around saying, wait, who’s our other outfielder? I cannot wait to see the next move. I know, because there has to be a move.

There has to be literally a move. You cannot. No, of course not. Use players from within your system and expect them to play in the outfield. If all of a sudden we start hearing… If they go into spring training without making another move. And they just have 33 guys

That are 40 men all year. And we start seeing like Jake Cornworth getting reps in the outfield in spring training. I’ll lose my mind. Yeah, I’m not expecting that. I’m also not expecting they sign Cody Bellinger. So I’m expecting something in between. I’m not expecting the $100 million deal. I’m not expecting all

Rookies on opening day in Korea on March 20th. All right, Colin Cowherd. Earlier today, he kind of went off on a soliloquy about the strength of the Detroit Lions. Lions are going to be everybody’s. I feel like majority of everybody’s picks. You think? Yeah. If you’re not a Niners fan.

Then you’re picking the Lions. You want the Lions to win. Are people going to pick the Lions to cover or pick the Lions to win like straight up? The line is what? Six and a half right now? That’s a lot of points. That’s a lot. I would suspect that that goes down.

I agree with you. Over the course of the week. Yeah. Because of that, people will. people are probably pounding the lines right now. Minus six and a half. That’s a play that I think… Plus six and a half. Sorry, plus six and a half. People are just… Give me that.

After we saw from Brock Purdy, Debo’s health in the air, like, give me the Lions. Give me Jared Goff on the road. Yes. Give me Dan Campbell and biting everybody’s kneecaps off. Right. I would suspect that goes, the line gets shorter towards the game, but everybody wants the Lions to win.

The Niners are not a team that people want to see win this game. All right. No chance. Well, this is Kyle Coward earlier today. Sometimes we confuse a great story with With a great team. Let’s talk Detroit Lions. Like Joe Flacco in Cleveland. Everybody’s like, oh, that was a great story.

He wasn’t having a great year. Houston Texans season. That’s not a great team. It was a great story. C.J. Stroud, D’Amico, Ryans. And these Lions, they’re a great story, too. But this roster, that pass rusher, that running back, that tight end, that safety, these weapons. Detroit can match San Francisco player for player.

Not quite as old, but arguably just as good as just as deep. The star of the Lions is not the quarterback, though he’s been excellent, or the coach, and he’s been surprisingly good. It’s the front office. The Lions’ rookies are Pro Bowl level. Their second, third-year players are some

Of the best players in the league. Sam Laporta could be the second-best tight end. Panay Sewell. Aiden Hutchison, Jameer Gibbs, like he’s as dynamic and twitchy as any running back in the league. The last three drafts, they’ve hit minimum six home runs, not just good rookies, good second year guys,

Like top of the league good. And Jared Goff with time to throw. We saw this in Los Angeles. He’s really, really good. He wins a lot. He’s now in his second NFC championship game. It’s not all McVay, believe it or not. Don’t confuse Detroit with a Cinderella story. You know,

That small college basketball team at a private school in the South that gets to the Sweet 16. No, that’s not what this is. Detroit has dudes at safety, linebacker, tight end, offensive tackle, running back, wide receiver. They got dudes everywhere. And they’re doing championship things. They draft. They’re patient. They develop.

They found a quarterback. They protected him. They added weapons. They don’t have great corners. You can beat them deep. But, I mean, Baltimore doesn’t have great corners. And San Francisco doesn’t. The truth is, all four teams going forward, you could say one of their weaknesses, corners, maybe outside of Kansas City.

But that’s a weakness in the National Football League. The NFC Championship is where Detroit has landed. And it’s actually where they belong. One of the cool things about this team is you saw it coming. We picked them to win the division. You picked them to win the division. And so often,

Hope and optimism fade in January. Right? The Cinderella stuff. That’s not what this is. This is what championship teams do. Draft, develop, get guys. They have overspent in free agency. No dumb moves. It’s smart. It’s tough. It’s relentless championship level football. And I don’t know what the odds makers think,

But I think they’re a younger version of San Francisco with a better quarterback. I think they got dudes absolutely everywhere. Okay. A couple of things. I’ll agree with him on these points. The Lions are very good. They’ve drafted extremely well. You look at their last three drafts. Pretty good drafts. All right.

They are a good football team. Offensively, they have just as many weapons as the 49ers. Colin. Where Colin was wrong. I feel like he was talking to a scout one day. And the scout used the word twitchy. And now it’s all he’ll use. It’s all Colin says about players.

He’s like, this player is so twitchy, twitchy. He’s like Tyler Bass. You’re not a scout. Stop. I know you talk to scouts because of where you are in your platform, but stop. It gets very cringy when you use the word twitchy. to describe every single player. And number two, bro, um,

The Niners have an all pro at corner in Moody. And like, he said that the lions don’t have corners, nor do Baltimore or San Francisco. Ward is a all pro. Okay. Uh, lenore for them is played out of his mind the one player they have a problem with is ambry thomas who’s

Another corner who got two pass interference calls against him against the packers uh the lions past defense is 26 in the nfl yeah i thought it was 28th is it maybe maybe 28 26 or 28 i don’t know aiden hutchinson has been fantastic yeah um it’s one pass rusher i mean

You know, it’s not. Keep hyping them up, man. Keep hyping up the lines all you want. Keep doing it. Honestly, I think everything’s right. I think the Niners should be favored by six and a half points. I think the Niners at home against Detroit, that’s exactly what you would want.

I think the Niners should have been favored by 10 points against Green Bay. And by the way, if the weather issues aren’t an issue, maybe the Niners end up winning the game. by a touchdown and a half. But the weather was a factor. Packers were… They were playing good football. Yeah.

They came off a really good win against Dallas. But this is the right number. The idea, oh, the Lions are a younger version of the Niners. Well, then that’s why the Niners are favored. Well, then they’re the veteran version and they’re at home. Yeah. It goes with, you look at the Lions and

They’re a good football team, man. They’re really good. And the Niners coming off of… pretty much three weeks of not a three-week buy. Like, they didn’t play any starters. They played the starters the first half, but Brock Purdy did not play against the Rams the last game of the season.

They had two weeks off. Yeah, so all that rust, and then it’s raining. There’s pressure. Now, the Ravens went through the same thing, and they overcame that. Yeah, but it was 10-10 at the half. In the second half, they blew them out. But, like, it’s funny that the Niners have…

They won that game with their C game. If you’re grading what type of game they had, I would say C, C+. At best, C+, just because they won the game. They won that game with their C game. I don’t know, man. Keep saying the Lions are the greatest thing ever.

If you want, we’ll see on Sunday. But it’s going to be a tough game, for sure. I would be shocked if it’s a blowout either way. Yeah, I don’t think either of the two games will be a blowout either way. I am hoping for good games. I thought we got a couple of

Really good games this weekend. Buffalo-Kansas City was iconic. I mean, it was a great game. Back and forth, four lead changes in the second half and a missed field goal. That’s like a legendary divisional playoff game. I think Packers-Niners was a great game with a lot of intrigue.

I hope this weekend we get two really good games. There’s no reason to think Baltimore-Kansas City wouldn’t be a really good game. I’d be very surprised if Baltimore blew out Kansas City. Kansas City lives in the postseason. There’s been one team this postseason that had a game-winning drive with

Under five minutes to play. And it was your Brock Purdy Niners. It was the Niners. Yeah, I mean, so you’re saying the playoffs haven’t been good? No, I’m just saying that that like that a game winning drive and no, no team has done that this postseason when trailing with five minutes to play.

Okay. Oh, great. I’m just, I just stayed in fact. Yeah. I mean, I just hope they’re two good games. I think they will be. Um, yeah, I’d be surprised if either game was a blowout. Don’t get me wrong. Did, did, uh, game versus the packers make me wobbly with brock purdy

Yeah you tweeted out that the game was over for the packers right it was we buried the lead i mean in the third quarter you yes without this game did i doom tweet absolutely i did yes let me find it was i over reactionary yes i was i am the definition of

Roller coaster fan right you said yeah this is over lol and then i quote tweeted after the game yeah for the packers 7 24. I think it was after the 52-yard run. It was after the run. Yeah. Yeah. And then they missed the field goal. And then they gave him an opportunity.

They opened the door for them. Are you going to tweet on Sunday? Yes, you will. I will. Yeah, as soon as I go down like 3-0. Yeah, I think you will. It’s done. Do you like it being game two or game one? It’s game two. But would you prefer it to

Be the first game or the second game? I’d say second because at least you can then watch the first because if you lose game one, you’re not even going to watch game two. That’s how it was last year. I didn’t even care about Kansas City. Exactly. And Cincinnati, was it? Cincinnati. Yeah. Yeah.

I didn’t care about that game. No, you were in a movie during game one. I know. I went to have dinner at Yardhouse, and I watched the Chiefs-Bengals game there, and I was just so miserable. I was like, this is so stupid. So if the Niners go to the Super Bowl.

Yes, I’m going to be erect. Will you go? Vegas being in Las Vegas. No, no, no, no. Actually last year when the Eagles were the Superbowl, uh, shout out to Raphael and Chris at a crew health, my chiropractors, Chris is actually a diehard Niners fan. Okay. And Raphael is a diehard lions fan.

Wow. So it, we’ve been talking for the last couple of months. And we were kind of joking, but also kind of serious. And they’re, I think, 100% serious. They said if the Lions and the Niners faced off in the playoffs at any point, they would go to the game. Okay.

And they kind of lumped me into this whole thing. I haven’t talked to them yet. Are you going to go? But they said, look, if the Niners played the Lions at any point in the playoffs, you’re coming with us. I’m thinking to myself, dude… One,

I don’t think I just could go to a game of that magnitude in the first place. And two, the get-in price for that game, did you see the get-in price? It’s like $700. Probably all Lions fans. You think? I don’t know. The get-in price in Detroit this past weekend was like $700.

I’m not sure. Will Lions fans travel? Do the Lions have fans? They do. I don’t think they’re like a historic fan base like the Chiefs. Like the Chiefs have never been good for the Packers. They don’t win. Like this is the first time you’re like, what is happening?

Which is why they’ll travel, I think. Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. Exactly. It’s been so long. No, I will not go to Vegas, Sean, if they make the Super Bowl. And you won’t go to San Francisco even with your chiropractor? No. There won’t be another spontaneous trip to the

Super Bowl like two days ahead like last year? That wasn’t my call, though. But it could be your call this year. I’m already going to Vegas for my bachelor party. Combine the two. Dude, I was looking at prices in Vegas for the Super Bowl. Yeah. Probably not cheap. Just for S and giggles.

Yeah. Like a hotel room at the crappiest hotel. Mm-hmm. like 1200 bucks a night. It’s almost like the Superbowl is there. Almost like the Superbowl is there. Yeah. No, it makes sense. It does make sense. It does. But last year in Arizona, we found an Airbnb for like relatively a good price.

And that’s not like that in Las Vegas. All right. Here’s what we’re going to do right now. Caller seven. You’ve got two free tickets for tomorrow night at VA house arena. Another mountain West game for the Aztecs. The big one, San Diego state in Wyoming at 6 PM caller seven.

All right, some texts that have rolled in. 70470 started with the word team. 70470 started with team. 619 wants to know he’s a Niner fan. I’ve got a room at the Mandalay Bay all of Super Bowl weekend. I already have a flight coming in Thursday, leaving Monday. My friends work in media and

Will have access to all of the Super Bowl parties and interviewing celebrities. But I’m considering bailing out if the Niners go to the Super Bowl so I can do what I’ve done for every game of the season. Watch it at home. I don’t want to change the mojo. Your thoughts.

Wow interesting what would Jim do what would Jim do I think you’d go right got a room you got a flight I don’t know he’s kind of superstitious when it comes to stuff like that though I think I think I’d still go to Vegas even if I didn’t go to the game.

I’m kind of like the 619 number here. You’re going to bail on it all. Like, I’ll do it for every game that I watch it at home. But, see, it’s different. Like, if you told me 619 number, and I appreciate, like, thanks for the kind gesture here. No, he’s not.

See, he wasn’t offering you his spot. Well, you’re not? I thought that’s what it was. I thought you’re offering me a spot here. What are you talking about? He’s telling you about his. Oh, you’re not offering it for me? Thanks for the offer. I’d be jumping up and down.

The guy offering you hotel and flights to Vegas and parties and you’re saying no? I thought this is where we were going here. This is not where we’re going with 619 number? No, I just read it. I know, but it sounded like he was going towards the, hey, I’m not going to go,

So you want to take my spot? doing that at all well my thought is uh don’t go if you don’t go if you’ve been watched because look i if you’ve been watching the game at your house and you have the same routine and they win on sunday and you

Go to las vegas and they lose and they lose you are going to 100 say it’s your fault but in actuality it’s not actuality jinxes aren’t real and these things don’t matter but i know to people because i’m one of those people okay mr kershaw meme he’s no big deal it’s

Different okay look it’s up to you individually you know if this guy thinks that you know him staying at home is going to help the 49ers win then stay at home you know don’t don’t go to vegas because then you’re going to go to vegas but i should have stayed

Home if i would have stayed home this is all my fault yeah exactly Okay, so you’ve just basically told the texter, though, if there’s anyone else out there that has an extra ticket and everything to Vegas, you’re out. Sorry. Because you’ve got a routine. No, I just… Even if I didn’t have a

Routine. And I didn’t really have a routine. He responded, Jim. He said, screw that. Jim lost it for me on train wreck a week before. Oh, so yeah, you’re not getting the invite. Yeah, I know. But… I’ll go with you, 6-1. But… Yeah, dude, I think if you just watch

The game at your house… To me, even if I didn’t have a routine, I would want to watch the game at the house. Because to me, it’s like, I don’t want to deal with that stress. I would love to go to a Super Bowl if my team wasn’t in it. Perfect. Okay.

You know what? Son of a… That’s perfect. Go to the roof of the Lions. You can go this year. You can go this year in three weeks. That’d be so fun. If my team… The only way that would be cool with that is if my team sucked. And they weren’t in the playoffs.

Right. Sure. They weren’t just losing. They went 3-14. Yeah. Yeah. But… To go to a Super Bowl if my team was in it, dude, I would be a wreck. Of course. A wreck. Yeah, that’s a good point. That is a good point. All right, Brent, let’s get to it. All right.

San Diego state close. No cigar in Boise. Furious late comeback. They showed by eight with 30 seconds left. They lost by one. Boise turned the ball over a couple of times, missed some free throws. San Diego state hit some threes laid. So they had six now four and two in the mountain West.

Outside of first place, they’ve got Wyoming coming up tomorrow night at 6 p.m. We’ve been giving away tickets. Wyoming all of a sudden is sneaky good. They’re 3-2 in the league. They haven’t won, though, on the road. Primary takeaway from Saturday. For Jim, it was they got to be better on the road.

If you look at the stats of that game, they should have won. I’m not good at math. It didn’t add up to me. For some reason. You said if you look at shooting percentage and three-point shooting percentage and free throws and rebounds. I’m pulling it up right now. I’m looking at this here.

I watched the entire game, but if you look at the box score, which someone accused me of, all I do is look at box scores. I don’t watch the Aztecs basketball games at all. Who said that? On social media? Someone on the text line. In this case, I’m looking at the box score.

They both made 22 field goals. All right. Okay. I can’t wait to hear this. Yep. And like, it just, it makes sense when you, when you read it. Cause the Aztecs made six threes boys statement, nine free throws boys. They made 14. The Aztecs made 16. Yes.

The box score is accurate, but they were, it was a very close game. Like it was a one point game. I don’t know what I’m trying to say right now. What you’re trying to say is if you look at the box score, you could easily argue that San Diego State won the game.

They outshot Boise from the field. They outshot them at the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle. That’s what you’re trying to say. And that if they make more… They got to be a better three-point shooting team. Yeah, you could say that. They have not shot well on

The road from the three-point line. Yeah, just in general. Yeah. And once again, I thought that… you know, Jadon Ledeb didn’t play his best game. Like, when you’re on the road, you need your stars to show up. And I thought Jadon Ledeb at times played well, but he could play better.

Yeah, I mean, he’s doubled every single time. I mean, it’s a hard double. It’s not like a hedge. Like, he is immediately doubled, and then you’ve got to make a decision. And when you’re not making your threes, then it’s much easier to double him. Yeah, I would agree with that. I mean,

There’s no question that they need to make teams pay for the double. And even when he is doubled, he’s able to score out of it or dribble out of it. I mean, he’s just so good. There’s no other option. Like, he is getting the hard double and probably will from here on

Out because what do you do with him? If you don’t, he’s going to score 25 or 30 points. Mm-hmm. So here’s the thing. Hopefully home cooking tomorrow against Wyoming, where there’s something like a 16, 17-point favorite, and then a week off between Wyoming and Colorado State in Fort Collins.

And that becomes another one of those big road games where, as Jim talked about earlier, you’re going to have to beat someone in the top six or seven on the road, you would think, to win the Mountain West regular season. Not like, listen, it’s a program built on banners.

So they’re in the business of winning the Mountain West regular season. I would say it’s a little bit like baseball. It’s like you got to get to the postseason. the way to get to the postseason is most important and the regular season title doesn’t guarantee you the postseason but this year of

Course it will so they just need to put themselves in position to get to the postseason so whether it’s a one seed or a two seed or a three seed in the mountain west tournament i just want to see them put themselves in a position to get that large bid for the

Ncaa tournament which is something they’ve already done i mean based on what they’ve done so far they’ve got a good resume they just got to finish it off over the next you know six seven weeks yeah uh hold hold your own at home all right bounce back tomorrow versus

Wyoming and then the road games you know like you said you have four left here that are going to be very impactful yeah you can go two and two in those four road games hold serve at home i mean You’re looking pretty good. And then you have a Mountain West Conference tournament

To really solidify your bid into the NCAAs. Obviously, if you win that, you get an automatic. But still, there’s plenty of opportunity for this team remaining this season to make their resume even better than it is right now. No, you’re right. I think Joe Linardi at ESPN.com today has five

Mountain West teams in his bracket. which would include Boise State and not include Nevada. Nevada’s lost three consecutive games, but if the Mountain West can get five teams to the NCAA tournament after getting four each of the last two years, I think you’re signing up for five, right?

I’m not holding out for six. You’re good for the conference. Yeah, if you can get five… Coming off of a national championship game for your conference? Yeah, it’s great. I think they’re saying the ACC is in a… you know, spot where they’re going to get three or four PAC 12 is

Going to get two or three and the mountain West might get five. And that’s incredible. That is. So we’ll see. Again, there’s a lot of basketball to be played. Any one team, you know, because of these games and winning on the road, any one team is susceptible to the three game losing streak,

Which to me then changes a lot. So you got to avoid that. You got to avoid those losing streaks. As always, we remind you, Aztec Rewind is brought to you by Windmill Farms, the college area’s natural grocer. They’ve got you covered for your game day needs, organic farm fresh produce and meats,

Amazing craft beer, and a full deli with award-winning sandwiches. Visit windmillfarmsmarket.com for their weekly specials. Again, windmillfarmsmarket.com for their weekly specials. You ready for the back page or no? Are you ready? I think so. Okay. By the way, we’ll be outside VAS Arena. If you are there tomorrow going to the game,

We’ve been giving away tickets today on San Diego Sports 760. John and Jim outside from 3 to 5. You know what happens a lot with Fletch? Like, Jim! John! Like, that happens all the time with the pregame. Everyone thinks Fletch is you. Oh, really? Like, John and Jim! I listen!

And Fletch is like, yeah, I’m not Jim. Yeah, we don’t look alike. He’s like, I can’t deal with Jim. I’m like, you guys are Niners fans. That’s, yeah. He’s like, yeah, but he’s a bad Niners fan. I’m a good one. I’m like, oh. Okay. All right. Jim’s back page. That’s next. All right.

Jim is getting ready. His back page is next. By the way, Ryan Mau, M-A-U-E, who covers weather and climate news, what is staying in San Diego County in 100 years? Jeez. It’s been a while. All I’m seeing on social media is pictures of the highways flooded. Cars overturned.

I mean, Pacific Beach is underwater. dude yes again stacy if you’ve been out there today then this town is not built for rain i imagine the usual lake is going to be collected down by snapdragon at the bottom of that hill yeah maybe and and in fashion valley they’re in mission valley

Ramp yeah yeah or the parking parking lot structure is flooded points there are some point loma has received four and a half inches of rain since saturday And that’s crazy. That is a crazy total. So anyway, be safe. The airport has gotten like three and a half inches since Saturday.

So be safe out there. Dry weather coming apparently on the other side. I think it’s gonna be nice this upcoming weekend. It’s starting to light up now, but it’s still a little slick. So be safe. Be safe. Be safe, everybody. All right, let’s get to this. mcdonald’s john is bringing

Back a beloved dessert item to some restaurants the shamrock shake no okay that’s only around st patrick’s day but that’s coming yeah i thought you might say that no okay the strawberry and cream pie yeah those are good so like a little cream pie it’s a little cream pie yes

And to offer them a cardboard crown as a gesture of thanks for ordering a Whopper or anything else on the menu. You think that’s going to impact them positively in sales? They used to just be free. I got you. Just leave them, sit out by the napkins and

You just take one if you wanted it. But I haven’t been to a Burger King in forever. So I didn’t, I don’t like Burger King. Really? I don’t know. I mean, I don’t know. I hate Burger King, but I never, I like Burger King. There just isn’t anybody where I live.

I just have never, like, I don’t think I’ve been into a Burger King in forever to have an employee tell me, you rule. So I didn’t know that. Maybe you should go for a confidence boost. You rule. Right before the Niners game. What do you think about the Niners? Your wedding rehearsal dinner.

Go there. Hey, you guys rule. You rule. Interesting. Okay. This funny 619 number says, Jim, did you ever find out if Aaron, it’s actually spelled E-R-Y-N, had the pizza guy and firefighter show up to her bachelorette party. Or are they going to keep lying to you? Oh, gosh. Yeah.

The 20th annual Puppy Bowl, John, airs on Sunday, February 11th, Super Bowl Sunday at 11 a.m. Pacific. What channel? A&E or something? It’s a three-hour TV event. Animal Planet? Three hours, dude. 80 years. Three hours? You know what A&E stands for, John? Arts and Entertainment? Very good. Thank you. There we go.

Is there going to be a dog like Brock Purdy and all the other quarterbacks? How do you win the puppy bowl? I’m not really quite sure. Do they still do the Bissell Kitty halftime show? The what? They used to have Bissell, the vacuum company, sponsor the halftime show. And it was cats.

They would bring in like kittens at the half they replace the dogs with cats you don’t watch no i don’t watch that and i wasn’t listening get bentley in it the puppy bowl has 73 um from 73 shelters in 36 states bringing 131 puppies together between represented between team rough and team fluff

Three puppies, excuse me, four puppies are from San Diego. Oh, is that right? Yeah. We have Fred. We have Dory. Hannah and Dobby. Do you think any of those four win? Probably not. Odds are against him because he’s 100 dogs. Yeah, probably not. I don’t know how you essentially win this game.

Good point. They’re going to win by giving Dobby a sock. I got that reference. Yeah, I know you would. Don’t ask. You won’t get it. I’ll tune in. Are you going to be watching? Dobby has a sock. Dobby is free. I don’t know what you’re talking about.

If the Niners are not in the Super Bowl, will you be watching? Yeah. If the Niners are in the Super Bowl, would you turn on the dog bowl or whatever? What’s it called? Puppy bowl? Puppy bowl. No. Would you watch any of the pregame, the six-hour lead up? across all networks and

Paramount plus and probably not really because i just feel like the watching like the pregame shows for your favorite team you just don’t want them to say anything to like potentially jinx it right right like oh my god everybody picked my team even though this past weekend everybody picked

The niners in the pregame show versus the packers which Makes sense. I thought it was going to be one of those situations again. Old takes exposed, tweets out, look at the, everybody picked the Niners, right? Right, exactly. You’re like, oh my gosh. They got it right. Everyone got it right in the end.

Yeah, they got it right. As I’m like shaking uncontrolled with that game. Here’s my question. What percent of the U.S. population watches the Puppy Bowl but doesn’t watch the Super Bowl? Like are there people out there that only watch the Puppy Bowl? Yeah, people that don’t like football. Yeah.

But here’s the thing though. you know the NFL will be rooting for the Chiefs to beat the Raiders. Not the Raiders, the Raiders. Because of Taylor Swift. Because of Taylor Swift. I saw a funny tweet. It was like, Taylor Swift is one win away from the Super Bowl. Right, exactly.

It will be Brent’s worst nightmare. If Taylor Swift and the Chiefs make the Super Bowl. No, his worst nightmare is the Packers in the Super Bowl. That’s true. With a 28-0 halftime lead. His second worst nightmare. It’ll be alright if Eminem is there to counteract her. It will not be alright if

Eminem’s there to counteract her. It’ll be the worst thing ever. Who’s halftime? Usher. Oh yeah, Usher. Yeah, Kristen’s all into that. He’s okay. Yeah, 30 years in the making. I like Usher. I didn’t realize it was announced. I saw an ad. I’m like, oh, Usher at halftime? I guess it was already announced.

They announced it like months ago. All right, we are back tomorrow outside Viejas Arena, 6 o’clock tip time, San Diego State, Wyoming. John and Jim from 3 to 5. Countdown to tip off from 5 to 6. Hope you join us tomorrow on the radio or the iHeartRadio app or outside Viejas Arena.

Probably a cat named Brock Purdy will be on the puppy ball halftime. Now we’re talking. It’s all coming together. And I just going to win big now. At least he’s going to make the puppy ball. At least it’ll be the MVP of something for Brennan, Jim. I’m John.

Keep it here at San Diego sports. Seven 60. Okay. Okay.

  1. Kicking in the NFL is another reason I don't like football. Its like you are playing lacrosse for 98% of the game, but at certain critical moments u just switch to the discus to determine the winner. Tie a baseball game? Just start a bobsled race to determine the winner. Makes no sense to me.
