It was the bombshell news wasn’t it just a few days ago when the Liverpool manager Jurgen klopp announced he was to step down from his role at the end of the season he was appointed back in 2015 his contract was due to run out in 2026 having signed it just a couple of

Years ago this extension he won the Champions League in 2019 before leading Liverpool to their first league title in 30 years that in the 2019 2020 season and actually if you look at his as the Liverpool manager he’s won everything that there has been to win in his time

At the club just hearing that little piece there Cass I was looking at your face and it still has that Crest Fallen look upon you you know it’s kind of one of those things sometimes you can put it to one side we’re talking about other things we’re talking about the glory of

Maidstone United and then you brought back down to earth when you’ve got to talk about Liverpool and that realization that this is the next few months that you’re just going to have to save her with klopp at the helm I mean few days on from that announcement how

Are you feeling about it now well there’s nine more Premier League games Premier League games to be played at anfield so there’s you know obviously Cup competitions as well um I’ve always had the mindset that if I had ever done management of any player didn’t want to

Play for me for whatever reason it doesn’t have to be you know anything wrong a with a relationship with a player but if he wanted to move elsewhere pastures knew that I would never stand in their way and I feel the same back of manager as much as a don’t

Want to lose klopp and that’s how Liverpool fans feel obviously because he’s been terrific you know not only a manager but he’s not been him an ambassador for the football club as well um and it’s a big loss but the club has to move on um you know today is going to

Be one of them days I’m sure David vogner for norwi is thinking why this week you know because the atmosphere will be you know it will be as noisy as as ever is and and it’ll be emotional but then Liverpool’s always quite emotional isn’t it it’s always that type

Of Stadium you go to um so yeah I’m trying to be a little bit more matter of fact about it because loads of clubs you know man united fans had to face losing to Alex Ferguson and you know and and many times in history great man remember

Brian CL coming to his end of his time at n Forest remember playing against them and it was an emotional City ground it really was uh at the end of each tenure there so it happens yeah well for more on this we’re joined by talk sports Mery side correspondent Matt Jones Matt

Good morning how are you how you Matt good morning guys yes very well thank you good to have you with us and and Cass is sort of talking about from his perspective as a Liverpool fan I I wonder what you’re expecting from anfield today in terms of that sort of

Emotional response should we say from the fans I think it’ll probably raise the atmosphere to what would have been expected at anfield today for for for an FA Cup fourth round Clash because there will be as as Cass says there’ll be that emotion in the occasion that perhaps

Wouldn’t have have naturally been there so it’s going to be really interesting to see how the the the Liverpool fans respond to that I imagine that they’ll be chanting klopp’s name for a large majority of those remaining matches that Cass talks about and that’s a situation that he has himself talked about not

Being particularly comfortable in in the past so it’ be interesting to see how he reacts to that as well but certainly anfield will be a more emotional place I think we’ve seen that from the outpouring uh of emotion that’s been over the last 36 48 hours haven’t we

Fans who weren’t expecting this news um just listening to that package you had a few moments ago and uh there was the chat talking about when shankley left Liverpool yeah and I mean I wasn’t around them but my understanding is that when Liverpool based reporters went out

Onto the streets to ask Liverpool fans about shankley leaving the club people could not believe it they genuinely thought that the guy was was hoaxed in them and I imagine that when they first watched this Klo video or first saw the tweets coming through they probably thought exactly the same that can’t be

True that can’t possibly be what’s happening uh and that’s how em that’s why the emotion is is as it is because it’s just so unexpected I was I was making the point to Natalie ofair earlier and said it’s like you know I remember that because I was a young boy

When sh shankley left the football club um and I saying it’s so different now because these guys are really wealthy you know shankley left and I’m sure he was okay but the super wealth that these type of managers have now and it’s not the reason why they’re leaving you know

We’ just seen Chevy announc he’s going to leave Barcelona at the end of the season is that the pressure of the job and what it comes with and you you can be made Super Rich by being in that position um and I know that’s not Jurgen

Klopp’s agenda but it does give them a little bit of freedom to go maybe other things in life are just as important than being a manager yeah absolutely he’s he’s someone who settles very well on bery side and I wonder if he’ll want to stay here or if he’ll just want to

Leave the the spotlight once he does leave the club in the summer but you’re right that there are different things in in play now aren’t there his family life and what he wants to do outside of football he said it himself in the interview every kind of minute as a football manager is

Dominated by being a football manager you can’t switch off as a player you can maybe switch off for two or three weeks in the summer but as a manager you can’t because you’re always looking at the next season strengthening your squad you’re probably always having to field

Questions about can I extend my contract can I go here can we this player another club’s coming for him do we need him um so he never gets that chance to switch off and you’re right here that he will now be able to do that he’ll get to go

Away and and I think when he left Dortmund he talked about wanting him to take a six seven eight month break from the game didn’t he and that never happened because Brendan Rogers suddenly left Liverpool and suddenly the Liverpool job came up and he thought well if if Liverpool are going to offer

Me that I’m going to take it and he only ended up having a couple of weeks away from the game so he’s just not had that time off um he’s never had the the the time to to think if you like and he’ll now Thrive upon that I think I mean he’s

Talked about having time off hasn’t he but you look at some of the papers this morning and I’m sure we’ll reflect more upon it when we do our payper review in the next hour but some are already linking in with Germany after the Euros for example so you never know he might

Be back in a job sooner than expect to on well you remember when you know this is another case of a manager Frank rart when he was at Barcelona he left and for personal reasons and we’re told it’s not that personal it’s just klopp wants to

Go go a different way for a period of time but he never returned yeah no some don’t some don’t return and he had been so successful at BARC he had a great side yeah uh it’s going to be interesting to see what happens at anfield Matt thank you for being with us

This morning um it is a 230 kickoff uh Norwich not the best Travelers this season they’ve any won four of their 15 away games in the championship this season coning on average uh two goals per game on the road so uh not as we’ve already just mentioned there perhaps not

Even their job’s not made easier by this news that emerged on Friday um uh just ramps up a little bit doesn’t it coming into it does for Norwich as well you know because absolutely you’re going there and the atmosphere will be you know it’ll be great at anfield you know

Even if it’s the sadness towards clock going the no players can feed off that because it’ll be terrific there it’ll be sold out it be they’ll have a huge traveling fan base going to anfield be a great day for them as well weekend Sports breakfast with Natalie Sawyer and Tony cascarino Sunday

  1. Made a whole video about this on the Liverpool fan in Japan channel and its totally correct. Liverpool and Klopp would not purposely derail his own work this season. There are reasons behind the timing of this announcement and I think he is doing it sincerely. Listen to the words he is actually using and this is the rally call to unite everyone with a clear conscience so he has nothing distracting him on his quest to end in the most beautiful way. YNWA

  2. Liverpool fans love klopp that much we don’t want him to go but we totally understand and respect his decision… he gave us fans all our dreams he done everything for us and we are so so grateful to him … it’s sad for us as klopp will also feel but the memories we had together we will never forget..

  3. Absolutely agree i personally think although it doesn't make sense on some level by the time the season is over wed have moved on to some degree going into next season.

  4. Oooh just think…they might not need their huge speakers on at the Tip, during their next home game !

  5. My guess this is family related, Klopp dad and Ulla's parents getting older plus a young grandson that Klopp seems to dote on so Ulla must be finding it really tough.

I am sure he will be commentating on the Euros, then managing Germany and maybe a DoF at one of his previous clubs.

Wish them all the best in the future, he goes with the thanks of a grateful club and fan base, be glad we have had 9 years of greatness with Klopp.
