At 6 PM right here on San Diego sports, seven 60 darn a trip. You could say friend of the show, right? I don’t know if he’s our friend. Like, is he still friendly with us? We think we’re friends with him, but I think he’s mad at us.
Well, we’ll ask him later in the show. Our producer will join us at 3.30. By the way, then we’re going to join him on his On Friar podcast tonight. So anyway, Darnay Tripp is going to join us at 3.30. Jesse Rogers, ESPN, great baseball reporter. We’ll join us at 4 p.m.
Why is the biggest news of the offseason the Padres’ promotional schedule? So we’re with you until 6. We’ve got a great giveaway for you in the 4 o’clock hour. Janet Jackson, Nelly, North Island Credit Union Amphitheater on June 6. I saw someone reply to your tweet, and I was thinking this earlier today.
Really, the biggest giveaway, obviously, has been Juan Soto. But unfortunately. Shout out to Mark B and SD. Right. Unfortunately, that’s, you know, not really the giveaway we’re seeking. But this is always the highlight of Jim’s year. I’m trying to think, like, what are the three things you look forward to most every year?
One of them is definitely the Padres promotional schedule. What else, Brent, would be on that list for Jim? Like, in terms of what he cares about more than the average person. the D expo every year for the Disney thing when they announced all the new Star Wars and stuff. Yeah.
Like a, uh, I love a good, um, trailer. Like, uh, like I will. Yeah, you do talk. I will watch trailer reaction videos all the time. Brent, same way. Um, I just remember one time we were at like, um, was it universal studios for the Superbowl?
And you got so excited over Harry Potter. i forget was it or like some sword or something you were like ran back in it was the harry potter one that you guys got for free but you didn’t give me one thanks my bad well they only gave you know how much you raced
Back in together it took literally me begging somebody to just get one harry potter wand because we got hedwig the owl yeah and a lot of people that we saw walk by us were getting harry potter wands and I’m thinking to myself wait a second hold on We were in the same line.
How did they get the Harry Potter wands and we didn’t? So I like begged an usher to get a Harry Potter wand. You raced back in. You looked like a kid in a candy store when you walked out with this thing. He was so happy.
I’ve never seen you as happy as that day. And so I got one. And actually, ironically, I gave it away last year to one of my best friend’s daughters who loves Harry Potter. And she’s four? She’s like, yes, four. Yeah, she’s four. So you were really excited as a 33-year-old at the
Time and she’s four. Yes, I made a little girl’s day when I gave her the Harry Potter wand. Anyway, the Padres today, we’ve been waiting for this because there’s been nothing all offseason, but we knew this was coming. I think we even talked about in the last couple of days.
They dropped their promotional schedule. I thought they did a very good job with it. It was cool on social media. They had this lengthy video. They’ve got it at Padres.com. People do legitimately get excited for this, and that’s fine. Jim, I think it’s more excited than most. So what was your reaction today?
Because you’ve had some years where you’re like, this is spectacular. This is amazing. Was that your reaction today when you saw these giveaways or what? Yeah. It was. Yeah. So they’ve outdone themselves again. Look, last year, I think the highlight we can now say, at least for me personally, was the giveaways.
I mean, the giveaways last year were exceptional. Eric Grupner did a fantastic job. Good job on the promotion schedule. So we give credit where credit is due. Absolutely. We’ve always said they’ve done really well with the promotions and the marketing. Seriously. The last couple years knocked it out of the park.
Yeah, I agree. Once everything stopped being 98-themed… Yeah. Yes. No, you’re right, Brent. That’s a really good point. Yeah. That’s a really good point. Great promotional schedule last season. Some of the bobbleheads that I actually have in my office. And then the Dawn and Mud ones I thought was fantastic.
They had a Hasan Kim one last year where his helmet fell. I remember that. Fantastic. This year, I was interested because… Uh, can they not top it, not top it, but can they create a good promotional schedule again? Right. We’re, we’re talking about the team not
Having any money and, and TV, you know, rights and all that stuff. All right. So what are they going to do for the promotion schedule? And yeah, they crushed it again. I think some of the highlights, for sure, for me, and you’re probably like, come on, Jim, it’s a promotional schedule.
Give me your top four. I got my top four. My top four, number one for me, I think this is going to be everyone’s close to the top, is the Joe Musgrove and his dog, Theo Bobblehead. Very cool, because it’s sponsored by Petco, and you get the dog in there.
I’m sure Brent would like that with his new dog. not in my top four wow wow well he’s honorable mention it’s funny because so if you look closely at this bobblehead I know we’re breaking down bobbleheads well this is this I knew this is how you’d want to start the show so I’m
Allowing that to happen hey and maybe if they made a move we’d be breaking down the move but instead we’re breaking down bobblehead bobbles yeah not only what bobbles but the details on the bobblehead okay great radio coming up here so you have his dog theo all right And then he’s wearing his
Joe Musgrove promotional bucket cap from last year. He’s also wearing, I believe it’s still the same, the Joe Musgrove basketball jersey. And then he’s also holding a cup of coffee. So it’s on brand. It’s a very on brand bobblehead with very good details to it. That’s fantastic. Number two for me.
The Tatis Platinum Glove Bobblehead. Fantastic. It’s him jumping over the wall, robbing a home run because he did that last year. With the glove being platinum colored. With the platinum glove. Right. The silver glove. Yep. That to me is number two. And then if I’m going to the
Giveaways that you can wear, right? Because it’s not all about bobbleheads. They also have a couple other good bobbleheads. Hassan Kim, but they’ve done a Hassan Kim bobblehead before like that. The Xander Bogart’s bobblehead I think is pretty cool. Manny Machado. Okay. the Tony or the Tony Gwynn Henley Jersey.
That’s on my list. I wear Henley’s shirts all the time. You do. And this thing, I mean, it looks fantastic. It’s the three button downs, right? It’s the Henley shirt, but it’s like a Jersey shirt. Fantastic giveaway. Okay. John, you love three buttons. I do. I do. Don’t I? I like quarter zips.
Oh yeah. You love me. I’m wearing a quarter zip right now. And then the Joe Musgrove basketball Jersey. I think it’s pretty cool. Brent, okay. What do you think? All right. I’m with Jim with the Tony Gwynn Henley jersey, but I’m also the prior giveaway, the 84 throwback Padres hat. Yeah, it’s good.
You just ripped the 98 giveaways, but you’re cool with the 84. It is the 40th anniversary. I like that. Well, they didn’t do 84 three years in a row. My whole apartment is filled with 98 bobbleheads and stuff like that. So that’s two. Three, I usually don’t like the City Connect stuff,
But I kind of like the City Connect hoodie they’re giving away towards the end of the year. That’s okay. But my number one, we can’t even get because it’s a kid’s giveaway. August 25th, you get a Padres tin lunchbox presented by Chick-fil-A. And I think that’d be cool
Just to have for just to have. Well, here’s the thing. Lunchbox. I could get that lunchbox with my four-year-old son. There you go. But I don’t know if I could pry it away from him. I think I probably could. It’s almost like Jim with his Harry Potter one.
Like, do I go to this game, get the lunchbox, and then give it to Brent and take it away from my four-year-old like I’m the Grinch? Here’s the other thing that people were talking about on social media. This is the most fascinating part of it to me. There’s an August 2nd giveaway.
Jim, do I have this right? Is it a theme night giveaway, or is it just a normal giveaway? Are you talking about the… It is. It’s on camera-related, but it’s not the bobblehead. There’s something else on camera-related. There’s two bobbleheads. There’s one that’s a full giveaway for everybody. That’s in June.
And then there’s a theme game, which is probably where he’s wearing the suit. Okay. The reason I bring it up. So there’s an August 2nd Hassan Kim bobblehead. And all of a sudden you see Padres fans on social media. And I like this angle saying they’re not trading them.
That’s after the trade deadline. And Hassan Kim has an August 2nd bobblehead. Now here’s the thing. You know, I worked in my elite baseball. Wait, what? 15 years. And there have been minor league teams and major league teams that have been caught via marketing promotions because of trades, right?
I mean, things do happen. And the marketing team can only know so much. I mean, does AJ Preller really know what he’s going to do with the trade deadline? Does AJ Preller know what he’s going to do between now and opening day? So we’ll see if they hold on to Hasan Kim.
I saw this whole series of conversations about they’re going to be extending Kim. If he’s a theme giveaway, if they’re doing a bobblehead on August 2nd, they have to be extending him because he’s not going to be available at the trade deadline. But we said the same thing with, oh,
They’re doing the Seoul South Korea series with Ha Sung Kim. He’s got to be on the team for the series coming up March 20th. It’s not as simple as that. I don’t think they go to AJ and say, hey, AJ, will you not trade these players because we’re going to do a bobblehead?
I don’t think that’s part of the marketing strategy, would be my guess, for the Padres in 2024. But it is weird, Jim. When you’ve got a cool marquee giveaway and the player has been traded. Or a couple of years ago, Fernando Tatis Jr. was out on the suspension, right?
Did they do the giveaway two years ago? They didn’t. They pushed it off a year. They used the exact same bobblehead. The next year. But my point is, this is marketing. This isn’t always real life. So give me the dates again for the Hasan Kim stuff.
Well, August 2nd, you said, was the theme. But the actual bobblehead for everyone is June 25th. and the trade deadline is when either the 31st of july or the 1st of august okay I would have been more on the conspiracy theory that like They’re not trading Hassan
Kim if the bobblehead was in September. July 30th. July 30th. Thank you, Brent, this year. And here’s the thing, guys. We see all these stuff, the Korean series. We have the two bobbleheads. He’s on the lunchbox, which Brent talked about and stuff like that. You know, if… if aj preller this
Organization is doing not making baseball transactions or baseball moves to potentially make the team better because of promotional giveaways like everybody should be fired I mean right you can’t think like that um now they could easily still have hasan kim on the team for all of these well most of these
Giveaways with hasan kim involved and still trade them at the deadline. Like there’s a, if this team is not playing well and Hassan Kim is having a really good season. Again, we get to the deadline. Then we’re going to be talking a lot about potentially trading Hassan Kim.
And the good thing will be the Hassan Kim bobblehead giveaway. That’s given out to everybody. We’ll have already happened. So we don’t have to worry about it. Did you realize this? And I didn’t even fully realize this. It’s not going to come into play. You know, there’s a mutual 2025 option on
Hassan Kim. $8 million. Yeah, it ain’t happening. So that’s the problem because it’s mutual. So this is his final year, folks. In terms of being under contract, it doesn’t mean they don’t extend him. I don’t know what it means. But I do know that he’s not going to be back just on a
One-year deal in 2025. Why would you opt into an $8 million deal if you’re Hassan Kim? Even if you don’t have a great year, I would think he could do better than one year. $8 million. So it’s decision time on Kim. They’ve extended a lot of players out over recent
Years under Peter Seidler. I don’t know if they’re going to do it with Kim or not. But it’s decision time on Hasan Kim. And the marketing team made a decision. We’re going to promote him throughout the course of the year. Seoul, June 25th. Lunchbox. August 2nd. So he’s a big focal point here.
He’s not one of the he’s not Tatis, but I mean, he’s a big focal point. He’s been here for the last three years. Yep. And the reason why is because he’s a really good player. He has been. And you want him to help this team win in 2024.
So the whole discussion around Hassan Kim, like being traded. Mm hmm. That, to me, right now, I feel like, even without the promotion giveaways, even without the Hasan Kim bobbleheads and the lunchbox and the special bobblehead and all that stuff, right? Mm-hmm. Don’t trade Hassan Kim. I believe there has to come
A point where they have to think about, okay, we are trying to win this year. Unless you happen to get a frontline starter for Hassan Kim, which I kind of doubt unless you attach a prospect to him, keep Hassan Kim. And if you’re not winning at the deadline, then you trade him then.
But to start the year, you keep him because the goal should be trying to win. Yeah, that would actually, that’s kind of fascinating because remember 2023, they were put in a similar situation. Do we trade off players that are free agents in two months or not? We’re talking specifically
About like a Josh Hader, about a Blake Snell, and they chose not to. Would they have a different course of action in 2024 if they were dealt the same hand? if all of a sudden it’s july and they’re kind of just like treading along it’s not a train wreck but
They’re not having the success they had in like 2022 and there may be two games under 500 and they’re four or five games out of a playoff spot what do they do then they missed out in 2023 that doesn’t guarantee they would miss out in 2024 but does the strategy shift
For both A.J. Preller and Eric Katsenda in 2024 as opposed to the path they walked in 2023? Like revisionist history? Like we didn’t trade away Snell here at the deadline? I don’t know. And we could have gotten some major league pieces back and we wouldn’t be in this hole right now?
I just don’t know. I mean, what would you… Seriously, if you could fast forward right now and they’re in an identical spot Five games out, a couple games under. They’ve been all right. They’re relatively healthy. But there’s also major concerns, and there’s things that you could see with this team. Just not clicking.
Yeah. But they’re drawing, and they’re going to draw. They’ve marketed themselves well. They have a lot of season ticket holders. I don’t know if it’s $3.2 million, but they’re going to draw. Do you go down the same path and just say, we’ll deal with it at the end of the year?
Or do you try to recoup for some of these players, specifically Hasan Kim? Well, we talked about it a lot at the deadline. I feel like it was a situation where me and you thought it was pretty clear. It felt like it. Yeah. They should have been this way,
Which would, which was okay. This, this team ain’t it guys. I mean, we’re, we’re being, you know, we’re seeing what we see on the field and we’re telling you this ain’t it. There’s something off here. It was four months of blah. It just didn’t feel right. And there’s have been teams
In the past that flip a switch and that team last year something off and we ended up being right because later in august they quit and they had a horrible month and then the season was over so going into this year there has to be more of a concerted effort to
Make moves based on the betterment of the team right? Keeping Kim or keeping Snell and keeping Hayter last year was because they had false hope instead of realizing what they see, which was this team ain’t it. And we need to be, these guys are gonna be gone after this year, right?
So we need to make moves for the future of this team. Same thing with Hassan Kim. Right. If this team at the deadline, like you said, just feels off. They’re not playing really good baseball. Maybe the pitching. There’s a couple injuries here and there. They’re like three or four games under 500.
They might be five or six games out of a playoff spot. But Hassan Kim has been playing well. then you seriously have to consider trading them, and that’s going to be a discussion that we’ll probably have this year if those things do occur. Would your opinion change in the offseason if the money
They quote-unquote saved on Soto was used on a Hassan Kim extension? If tomorrow we found out four years, $90 million. Hassan Kim’s been extended through 2028. Four years, $90 million. I’m making it up. He probably can do better than that, but that’s also $22.5 million a year. It’s a lot of money.
It’s a guarantee. You don’t have to rely on your 2024 numbers. If Padres fans found out tomorrow he was extended for the next three to five years, And that’s how they used their money. But they still had the holes. What would your reaction be to that? That they used their money
On Kim as opposed to all these one-year flyers potentially out there of these low-level free agents. Would you prefer they used it on Kim or they addressed the fifth spot in the rotation and added an outfielder that is coming off a down year? if they use the money that
They said they saved for financial flexibility on Juan Soto? No, on Kim. Oh, yeah, from Soto. If they use that money, which they claimed was to gain financial flexibility and use that to improve their team, and they re-sign Hasan Kim to… Did they say a five-year extension for $100 million? Yeah. Whatever, right?
Through the roof. But can they do both, I guess? Can they do the 5-100 and address fifth spot left field? I mean, you could via trade, I guess. But can you take on additional money than the 5-100 for Kim plus pay Jorge Soler and whomever else in your rotation?
I don’t know the answer to it. I don’t know the answer either. But do you think that an extension is likely or unlikely? unlikely unlikely unlikely um at this moment in time right now we have to see how this season plays out what if hasan kim and I’m sorry if any this offends
Anybody what if what if hasan kim actually reverts and is not good this season like have you ever thought about that be good have you ever thought about that because it’s while hasan kim had a really good season last year it’s not like he has this amazing track record of four or
Five seasons playing at that level Yeah, just about one, maybe one and a half. Of the three, right? And I mean, if you look at last year, he did not start out good. He had like a three-month window where he was amazing. And then he tailed off a little bit. He got injured.
He didn’t finish the season. You’re right. And he started the season not really producing. So if you’re being honest with yourself and taking away the fact that Ha Sung Kim, you love him for what he does, like hustle, energy, his hair, his swag, like all that stuff, right? Likeable. Likeable. Totally.
And you’re honest with yourself and you look at his season last year. He had three amazing months. Maybe more, maybe less. You’d have to look. I’m looking right now. But his season last year didn’t start from start to finish being like all-star level. How about this? I have it.
209 March and April with a 625 OPS. September, October, this is 22 games. 176 with a 471 OPS. To your point, then May, June, 800 OPSs. July, 999 OPSs. And then it was 752 in August. But you’re exactly right. He had three huge months for his position. And he had a couple of
Months where he really wasn’t very good. So, I mean, listen, if all things are equal, I would extend Hassan Kim. If I can get a little bit of value there. I feel like there’s a lot of goodwill in it. I think he’s a good player. I don’t know if he’s a great player.
If I can do it, I don’t know if I’m getting a discount, but if I can do it at a reasonable number, considering you’ve done nothing all offseason, I think it gives you a little bit of a shot in the arm. A little bit. To say, hey, we’re committed to this.
We think he’s part of our core. Because if you just don’t do it, I just have more questions now heading into 2024. But you also have to be careful because you might hear a lot of… Fans, rightfully so, love their player. I get it. But you have to be careful saying,
I want to give Hassan Kim this huge contract. If you break it down and you’re honest with yourself, while everybody loves how Hassan Kim plays, me included. Me too. The numbers don’t lie. And like we just said there, there was three months last year where he was fantastic. And the other three…
Not as much. Not as much. His first year in the big leagues was really bad. His second year in the big leagues was bad. And then it turned out that he had good moments. Yeah. Second half was better. Second half was better, but it could be a, okay. They give Hassan Kim that
Money they saved on Juan Soto and give him a big time contract. well, who says that he’s going to actually perform like those three months for the rest of that contract? And then you could argue, why did you give it to Soto? But we’re talking different numbers, obviously, in there, different dollars.
All right, Darnay Tripp, NBC7. I’ve got a bone to pick with him related to something he tweeted out yesterday about the Aztecs. We’ll ask him, would he extend Hassan Kim? We’ll get into the Padres and the Aztecs with Darnay Tripp. On the other side, plus Jesse Rogers, great baseball reporter for ESPN.
He will join us at 4 p.m. Stay with us on John and Jim. All right. Darn a trip. NBC seven has some suggestions for San Diego state on how to use Jaden Lede. We’ll share those with us next. All right. This update is brought to you by staple stores.
We’ll start in the NFL. The Falcons have hired their next head coach. No, it’s not bill Belichick. It’s Raheem Morris, former defensive coordinator for the LA Rams and other news. Deebo Samuel returned to 49ers practice today. after a shoulder injury in the divisional round ahead of the NFC Championship
Game this Sunday versus the Lions. And tonight, the Brian Dutcher Coaches Show, 6 p.m. is when it starts, right here on San Diego Sports 760 with Coach Dutch and John. Staples print sale means the more you print, the more you save. Get $20 off your print purchase of $100 or more,
$50 off your print purchase of $200 or more, and $100 off your print purchase of $300 or more. Ends 2-10-24. See staples.com slash print for details. Print more, save more at Staples. I feel like Darnay could call into the Brian Dutcher show tonight because this is what he tweeted out a day ago.
All right. Darnay trip NBC seven. I haven’t, this is all I’ve thought about for the last 36 hours. We spent an hour texting back and forth at midnight for literally no reason, but we’ve got Darnay back with us here on John and Jim. So he tweets out the Aztecs
Are at their best when the guards look for their shots and the game finds its way to Jaden Lede. San Diego state has such skill and variety on the perimeter. Let them cook. Lede will get his in the flow of the game. That was a fun second half.
Would you like to further elaborate? Jaden Lede right now is third in efficiency in the nation, metrically. But what’s your suggestion here for the way the Aztecs should be running their offense? And thanks for hopping on. I love how John waits no time whatsoever. I’ve been waiting for this moment since we were
Texting at midnight on Tuesday or whenever that was. He wanted me to come on Wednesday. I was at Farmers yesterday, so I couldn’t. And without even saying, hey, Darnay, how are you? How are the twins? None of that. It’s just right into, let me attack you because I didn’t agree.
I didn’t attack you. I said further elaborate. And by the way, I didn’t want to talk about the twins because the last time I did, I caught all kinds of flack for announcing their birth before your wife knew. I know the attack is coming. You’re easing me into it. I’m not.
Okay, so further elaborate, though, because the tweet’s only a couple hundred characters. So, you know… I think they should protect his efficiency and be efficient in how they utilize them. I think most teams are better when there are a variety of options. And I think if you focus
Solely on Jay and Ladee and structure offense solely on him, then I think that does a disservice to the talented, versatile, skilled, at times dynamic perimeter that the Aztecs have. And I think Jayden Lede is an awesome player. I think, you know, I haven’t looked into it. Certainly a Mount West
Player of the Year type of candidate and hopefully All-American, Naismith votes, all of that. I think it’s great. I think he’ll lead the team in scoring. I think he should lead the team in scoring because He would be the most consistent option game in, game out that you could rely on.
I just think they have so many good options that you want those guys to be aggressive. Lamont and Reese and Darion, Micah, and even Myles Bird as he’s kind of coming along. You want those guys to be aggressive, look for their offense, and that will open things
Up and make life easier for Jaden Ledee. rather than kind of force feeding him and letting things kind of develop from there. Also, it’s, you know, it can be easier for, I’ll say this as a Sixers fan, Joel Embiid, incredible, right? Incredible talent. He just scored 70 points MVP last year,
But when it gets into the playoffs, when it gets into crunch time, the game slows down, it becomes a half court game. Sometimes the big guys can, can struggle with, uh to deliver at the same rate that they do during the regular season when there’s a little bit more flow you’re facing
Different levels of competition that’s where having guards that are dynamic that are confident that are aggressive really benefits you so I think long term while jaden the first month the season was incredible and he’s continued to score at a great pace and been super efficient um I think my uneducated opinion is that
Uh this team would function best when Out of the gates, the guards are looking for theirs. Jaden’s going to get his through the flow of the game just because he’s that talented of a player. Thanks for coming on. See you. Bye. No, that’s well said. That’s why I wanted to give
You this forum. Yes, because that’s more than 180 characters. 280 characters. There you go. So, Darnay, not an active Jaden LeDee hater after all. Good to hear. There’s nothing in my tweet that I’m a Jaden Lee tea hater. He’s awesome. He’s super, super good. I just, I’m also a fan of guard.
Like I love good guard play. There’s a lot of really good guards on this team. And I also feel like they can sometimes struggle to like find that right balance of like, how much should I defer to Jaden? And I think there are points of the season where they
Deferred a little bit too much. And so it’s almost like swinging to the opposite end of the spectrum to hopefully find that middle ground. where basically what we saw during the tournament, that’s the type of team that you want to have, where everybody’s kind of getting involved, everybody feels comfortable and confident,
And then you kind of see as the game goes on. All right, let’s move to the Padres and see if you’re a Hassan Kim hater. Should the team trade Hassan Kim? Oh, man. After the soul series. Okay. March 22nd. Yeah. It’s all that’s that’s, you know, so the best before opening
Day then is what you’re saying. When’s the, when’s the bobblehead June. They also have a special theme game bobblehead in August, like August 2nd. I’m I’m like everybody else. I don’t want them to, nobody wants them to. I want Hassan Kim to be part of the franchise for his entire career.
He’s an incredible talent, great personality, super fun. Guys in the clubhouse obviously love him and the fan base as well. I think what, you know, in Dennis Lin’s recent piece that I want to be careful not to misquote him, but he said something along the lines of there being some concerns whether or
Not the franchise could afford him long-term. And so if that’s the case, you’re kind of running into like mini Juan Soto, right? Where it’s not that level of a contract and not level of a star, but, you know, if… If you’re not going to be able to keep him long term
And he’s going to be able to get you something in return, as much as you hate it, that might be the move that they have to make. Not that they would want to make, not that I would want them to make, but it just might be the type of deal that helps
Them round out their roster and save some money. Well, couldn’t they also I mean, Hassan Kim gives like you’re trying to win this year, right? I think I think we can all agree that that the belief is like, OK, we can win with the players we have. But Hassan Kim gives the
Team a better chance to win now. And why not keep him? And if the team ends up not winning and they actually do like, you know, have issues because of the depth and the pitching and they still have two outdoors on the roster. at the trade deadline, couldn’t you trade him then?
And potentially if Hassan Kim’s having a good year, you can have to get, you know, squeeze as much as out of him now as you can. Yeah. But then are, are they going to run into the same situation they ran into last year where the, the team, the season looks lost the
First half and then they sweep the Rangers and you’re like, well, maybe. Yeah, I get it. Yeah. And then they hold, then they hold on and they don’t get anything except for maybe like compensatory picks in return for, um you’re also looking at you know him being the last
Year of his deal and um just the lack of team control what does that do to the value only having him for basically two months and a postseason rather than an entire season um I obviously if if the season is lost then yes you would cut bait with with probably a variety of
Players potentially um you if you’re if you’re selling off um But aside from that, aside from it being like a total tank of the season, then I would say make your moves now and, you know, hope you’re not in such a desperate position where you’re having to really make those types of
Desperate moves down the line once the trade deadline rolls around. Because it would signify that it was really a lost season. Darnay. Darnay Tripp, NBC7. Sorry to cut you off. What was your reaction to the Jim Harbaugh hire? Uh… I think it seems like a great move for the Chargers.
An organization that the Brandon Staley hire, a lot of people were kind of, I think, surprised given his youth’s relative lack of experience. Obviously, the Rams came off a great year defensively, and so there was that part. But I guess it seems un-Charger-esque for them to make just kind of like a
Totally normal, seemingly good hire. What that means for them going forward, I don’t know. Harbaugh obviously has a great track record. I think for like a casual fan, Justin Herbert, like all the potential in the world, but they haven’t been able to like really unlock it consistently and put him in
Position to flourish. And so I think from just kind of a broad NFL perspective, like that’s what’s exciting. What does it mean for the Chargers and them as contenders and this and that? I don’t know. But I think just, having an offensive mind, a guy that’s worked with a variety of quarterbacks and
Had some success, to put him together with Justin Herbert could be kind of cool. So what’s your favorite promotional giveaway? I won a Ha Sung Kim bobblehead frisbee. Yeah, me too. I thought that was a cool bobblehead. That’s not a bobblehead, though. That’s what they showed. No, I won a
I want a Frisbee that has a picture of a hot song Kim bobblehead on it. Like the one. Oh yeah. I agree with you. It’s like, it’s like a secret giveaway. I only have one of them. Didn’t you say you wanted the city connect wetsuit? If I surf,
If I wasn’t terrified of surfing, I would a hundred percent want a city connect. But I was like, I briefly saw that. I was like, wow, that’s $800 like theme giveaway. It’s amazing. I thought they were struggling financially and here they are. Yeah. Amazing. Darnay, we’re going to join you tonight on
The On Friar podcast, right? Is this accurate? Yes. Okay, so is this live or is this taped? Or can people join us tonight? This is live. NBC San Diego YouTube page at 9 o’clock. Wow. With both John and Jim? With both John and Jim. John was trying to get out of it.
I was. I’m like, Jim can do it. I’m like, what? Huh? That was… Literally his response, and then he was trying to blame Jones and his wife for, and actually Brian Dutcher. He was trying to blame Brian Dutcher for why he couldn’t do it. Well, I got the show until 7.
I got a babysitter. My wife’s in Oakland. Soft. Trying to keep the A’s there. How old is Jones, and what’s his bedtime? We’re at 15 months, so the twins are at 6.30. He’s still, dude, he’s amazing. He sleeps 7 to 7. He’s 4. He’s about to be 5. He sleeps 7 to 7,
Like 7.30 to 7 in the morning. He never wakes up. No joke. In five years, he’ll never once come into it. He never wakes up. Why are you busy until nine then? Because I get home at 7.30 from the Brian Dutcher show. Then I got to put him to sleep. And, you know,
We got to read books and yada, yada, yada. And who knows? I might have to give him a bath. I don’t know. All right, Darnay, we’ll see you tonight, 9 p.m. Thanks for doing it. First world problems that I don’t have. Darnay Tripp, NBC7. All right, on the other side.
And Jim’s arguing with me about this, like, off-air. We’re not going to talk about it right now. Brock Purdy is not a finalist for NFL MVP. Okay, that’s definitive. My question is this. Why not? That’s next. It’s the Brian Dutcher Show on the home of San Diego State, San Diego Sports 760.

So let’s get the best source. Our success, though, is the defense and the rebounding. This is the Brian Ducker Show. Get the latest info about the Scarlet and Black. Imagine my surprise when I read the first sentence of an article at ESPN.com today and the sentence, Jim said this Lamar Jackson,
Christian McCaffrey and Dak Prescott are finalists for the APS NFL MVP award. Now see, all you have to do is just scroll down a little bit more paragraph three, Bill’s quarterback, Josh Allen and Niners quarterback Brock Purdy are also finalists for MVP. Now imagine that’s the only part of the article I read.
That’s what happened. I only read the first sentence. I know. So Purdy is, in fact, a finalist. Now, it didn’t get the lead at ESPN.com. Jackson, McCaffrey, and Prescott got the lead. Then Allen and Purdy were further down below. Does that mean that Purdy… Is Purdy going to win this thing? No, right?
No. Is Lamar Jackson going to win this thing? Nor should he. Should he be in the finalists? Yes. But will he win it? No. Should he? No. He had an opportunity versus the Ravens on Monday Night Football on Christmas. Him versus Lamar. If the Niners won that game
And Brock Purdy played well, then… things are different, but he had a really bad game and Lamar played amazing. And the Baltimore Ravens had the best record in the NFL and Lamar is literally unstoppable. So no, Brock Purdy does not deserve to win the MVP, but he does deserve to be in at
Least the conversation. Okay. So obviously who even, I’m sure you’ll agree with this, Mr. We never win the Superbowl, the Niners. I mean, who even cares? Who even cares? No, as I’m saying, if Purdy somehow is able to navigate these two games, I got to get through one to get to two,
But if they can win two games, I know. Then who even cares? Really? And who cares even how he plays? If they were two games, regardless of how he plays, you’re going to take winning the two games over the, I feel like we give way too much attention to something like this.
You know, Aaron Rogers has won so many or yeah, it matters, but it doesn’t really matter. Like the games matter. Like at the end of the day, who cares if Lamar Jackson wins the NFL MVP, but doesn’t win the Superbowl. Does anyone? Does Lamar Jackson care that he won the MVP but didn’t
Win the Super Bowl? Well, the person that doesn’t care the most is Lamar Jackson. I agree. If they don’t win the Super Bowl… He’s already got one. A Super Bowl? He’s already got an MVP. Oh, MVP. Yeah. But same thing with any of those players. Any player… in football that would tell
You they’d rather have an MVP over winning a Super Bowl and being like a major part of it. No, you mean the opposite. They’d rather have a Super Bowl over being an MVP. No, no. I’m saying like if they said they want an MVP over a Super Bowl,
I would have to be like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Cause that’s what I’m saying. Some people might like, Hey, if you’re the kicker, right. Of course I want an MVP, but you know, that would never happen. If you’re on a team that didn’t make the playoffs and you’re up for an MVP award.
Sure. You want to win the MVP award, but once you’re in the post season, it’s like, what defines great play? I mean, are, do you think Aaron Rogers is more defined by playoff failure or MVP award failure? Cause he’s me too. Failure me too. Now again, he’s got one,
But for a quarterback of his quote unquote caliber, that’s probably not enough. You know, so I saw that this morning. And you know who I thought of who’s going to actually have a really, really tough couple weeks here? Tough couple weeks? Just tough, hard, painful couple weeks. Josh Allen? No, no, no, no.
Okay. Ryan Clark. Why? Because of his angles? Look. He already said it was the hardest thing he had to do was discuss Brock Purdy in the same breath with Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. And now look at him. He’s in the MVP. And now he’s going to have to talk about the finalists
For the MVPs for the next couple weeks here until February 8th. Everybody, I just want to, if you’re out there listening. Ryan. No, just people. Just all of our listeners. Just think about Ryan Clark tonight because this is a very hard time for him. Yeah, but he can probably just not mention
Him like John did in the article. I didn’t think he was a finalist. I got so excited earlier today. I’m like, this is great content. Brock Purdy is not a finalist for NFL MVP. Why didn’t they just include him in the opening sentence? Here are the five finalists. Oh, I don’t know.
Who cares? Weirdly written. The same reason how there’s like five Heisman finalists or whatever, but they only care about the top three. So who do you think? Lamar. Who do you think is the top three? Not who’s going to win it. Oh, that’s a good question. I think maybe what they headline with,
Jackson, McCaffrey, Prescott. I think that’s possible. I don’t know about that order. I’d say Jackson, then some combination of Prescott, led the league in yardage. McCaffrey was just unbelievable in terms of scoring like every single week. I would say Lamar. McCaffrey. Yeah. and it’s a toss-up between Purdy and Prescott for me.
Okay, yeah, you’re probably right. That’s probably what it is. I think Prescott, I think Brock had a better season than Dak. Yeah, probably did. And it’s kind of one of those things, too. It’s like, well, the Niners beat the crap out of the Cowboys, and they had the number one seed.
So why would you put a guy that finished below that ahead? Because he’s the Dallas Cowboys quarterback. There’s a reason. You know what I mean? There’s a lot of profiling of that player. But would you agree the top two have to be Lamar and Christian? Well, let me just say this,
Because you’re right. But Prescott led football with 4, 516 passing yards. Maybe he played week 17. He did. He led football with 36 touchdown passes. Maybe he played week 17. He did. And his 105.9 passer rating… Was behind Brock Purdy. Well, how do you… By like two-tenths of a point.
Oh, by the way, he didn’t lead. Brock Purdy had a 112 passer rating. By the way, he didn’t lead football in passing yards. But he had an NFL best 36 touchdown pass. I think… Jared Goff. I think a QBR rating. Jared Goff was… second in the league in passing.
I think Tua led the league in passing yards. Tua led the league in passing yards. But again, it’s one of those things where we know Lamar’s going to win it, and he deserved it. And… It’s a pretty cool accomplishment, I think, for Purdy to at least be in. I mean, second-year pro,
He’s played 20 games. He’s not even in the first sentence, though. All right, Jesse Rogers. He’s going to throw five interceptions this weekend. Jesse Rogers, ESPN. Why has this offseason been so slow, and what does it have to do with Scott Boris? Jesse Rogers, baseball reporter for ESPN. He’ll join us next.

Hour two, John and Jim. This hour, a chance to win tickets to see Janet Jackson and Nelly. North Island Credit Union Amphitheater will do that during Trainwreck Radio coming up in about 40 or so minutes. It is great to connect with Jesse Rogers, great reporter on baseball for ESPN.
Back with us here in San Diego, John and Jim. San Diego Sports 760. Man, it’s not just been a slow offseason in San Diego. It’s been a relatively slow offseason nationally. outside of what the Dodgers have done. So, Jesse, we appreciate you taking some time for us. Well, I read Jeff Passan today.
What is the reasoning for our listeners for this relatively slow offseason, and should we be blaming Scott Boris? Well, I mean, Scott’s MO is kind of to do this no matter what. So that part is sort of the normal part of this offseason, Boris taking his clients deep into it.
So that isn’t that unusual. I mean, I had to be reminded Bryce Harper signed on March 2nd in 2019. I didn’t even realize it was that late. So that part’s not that unusual. The other parts are, because there are other agents and agencies, not to get too inside baseball,
Who actually like to move quickly back in November and stuff. And those agents and agencies and players haven’t done that. So it has been weird. It has been strange. I do think there’s at least one unusual circumstance, and that’s the RSN, the local tv situation don’t want to bore your listeners but I
Do think that has that played a part and I think um as we uh turn the calendar over to february that might resolve itself I think you might see the rangers do some things in early february maybe resign jordan montgomery um but the the rest of it is
Unusual I i can’t I don’t think anybody can put your finger on it I don’t you know jeff and I have talked about it and it’s just a a little bit of everything um The fact that you had a couple of players coming over from Japan, high-level players,
That they had end dates to their situations. So everybody was focused on one, and a lot of people focused on the other. Now, moving on to the next thing, it’s kind of weird. I don’t have a great answer. I don’t think anybody does, other than maybe the uniqueness of the RSN,
The local TV situations. Jesse, in December, AJ Preller was quoted as saying that they were going to wait till prices dropped on the free agent market. But do you think that these prices are going to drop? Because I feel like, I mean, if you’re Blake Snell, it’s not like you’re going
To all of a sudden go from potentially getting $160 million to like $100 million. Do you feel like the prices on these big time free agents and the market for everyone else is going to drop dramatically? at a, I don’t want to say significant rate, but still just drop at a
Rate that would make teams more okay with signing these players. Yeah. Okay. So it’s going to change. I don’t know if it’s going to drop. And what I mean by that is take Reese Hoskins, for example, Scott Forrest Klein. Now he was missing a year. So this makes sense only to
Get a two year deal, right? He was injured all of last year. He gets a two year deal. with an opt-out, but a pretty good price. He’s getting $17 million per year, but he can leave after one year. He reestablishes himself, has some huge year. He can become a free agent again.
I think that is what you might see with some of the bigger names. If people don’t believe in Cody Bellinger because he had two and a half bad ones and one good one, well, then maybe he gets three years with two opt-outs, right? You opt out after you’re one.
Maybe the same thing with Blake Snell. And I will say with those Boris clients, and I don’t want to disparage anybody because Snell won the Cy Young. Bellinger I saw up close here in Chicago. He was great. But maybe there’s a few more doubters out there about some of those guys than the
Bryce Harpers of the world or when Strasburg signed or Insurer’s signed or some of the other Boris guys. So that could be slowing those guys up. Some people don’t believe that those are slam dunk productive guys for the next eight or 10 years, because that’s the sort of going rate. Like everybody’s getting
Eight to 10 year deals. And when you want to buy young and you’re only 28 and you’ve had it, you have sort of a top five MVP caliber season, like Bellinger had, that’s what you’re going to demand. But I think there’s a few more doubters about those
Guys than you usually get for those, for that kind of production. So that’s where, okay, yeah, the years and the contract might look different, but that AAV, if Reese Hoskins is getting $17 million, then Bellinger and Snell are going to get close to $30 million. It just might not be for
Eight to ten years. Yeah, that’s an interesting way to say it, and I think that’s good for our listeners as we’ve been discussing this ad nauseum over the last couple of months. Jesse Rogers with ESPN with us right now. I’m John and Jim, and Jesse, like you said, you’re based in Chicago,
But you’re a national baseball reporter. Did you have any feel… for the Padres spending prowess now on the other side of the passing, the passing of their owner, Peter Seidler, Eric Katsenda has taken over. They were top three in payroll a year ago. They’ve since traded Juan Soto. Their payroll is way down.
The off season isn’t over, but do you have any feel for what the Padres plan is when it comes to spending? Well, I think the trade of Soto was telling, right? I mean, you had a chance to, bring him back and go for it with a new manager, an experienced manager.
Everyone sort of guessed they would have to trade him to drop payroll. And then they went ahead and did, even though they sort of protested a little bit, both Scott Boris, his agent, and A.J. Preller, all the way back to the GM meetings. No, he’s going to be with the Padres.
Nobody really believed that. And they ended up trading him. So I think whether it be on the other side of Peter Seidler or Just the fact that they spent so much, it didn’t work out this past year. I think the Soto trade was selling. I really do. I think that their spending
Is going to come down before it goes back up. Jesse, being the national guy that you are, we talk a lot about Haas on Kim here, but nationally, is that a name that you’ve been hearing discussed in potential trades, or at least a hot name out there that could be a guy
That could be traded either this offseason or this coming year because he is a guy that has one year left on his deal? I didn’t hear who you said. Haas on Kim. No, I haven’t heard his name too much. I really haven’t heard his name too much out there.
I think there are some guys under the surface percolating. He could be one, but I have not heard his name out there in terms of trade talk too much. I do know that the Padres think they can win, just talking to other teams and stuff. They still have a good team,
And I think Preller’s doing as much as he can with the parameters he’s under. So I’m not sure they’re ready to have to move more than they already have at this point, and they certainly did move a big salary. So I have not heard his name out there too much.
Jesse Rogers with ESPN with us right now. John and Jim, San Diego Sports 760. Jesse, what has been baseball’s reaction as you’ve covered the sport over the last couple of months to the Otani? Not just the deal, but the deferral. Will the deferral lead to any real change?
Or is this now going to become somewhat norm moving forward? Yeah, I don’t know if it’ll be the norm, but I think it’ll pop up. in various moments like this, when it’s a huge, huge contract and the player is, is willing to do it or remember that the player
Has to be willing to do it. Um, I, they are going to look when something unusual happens, it becomes a discussion point and it will with a couple more years to the next CBA. Um, but they’re not ready to do anything dramatic just because of one player doing this necessarily. Um, I mean,
There have been other deferrals as well. It’s not really the norm because most players aren’t going to agree to it. But that price, you know, because even though it was $700 million, it was more like $400, whatever million, and that’s what most people thought he was going to get anyway.
So he still got what most people thought he was going to get. It just sounded that much better at the time. So I don’t hear a lot of scuttlebutt in terms of we’ve got to change this rule, but let’s see. Let’s see if it becomes – more the norm, if teams especially are
Going to try to skirt the rules, find the loopholes and exploit it, then it might be a different story. But I haven’t heard anything in terms of we have to react to the fact that the Dodgers are doing that with Ohtani. I asked about Hassan Kim, but just over the entirety of baseball,
Are there names that you predict could potentially get traded before the start of this season? Well, Dylan Cease, you know, he’s in my backyard here in Chicago. That continues to be a subject. I thought Shane Bieber and Dylan Cease would both be traded. But it doesn’t sound like Bieber will be right away.
But I certainly think he could be in July. You know, Cease has two more years of control, but he’s a Boris client. The White Sox lost 102 games. They could get full value for him if they move him now. And I think they want to. They’re just asking prices so high.
That could change. As things progress here, it’s obviously been a late, late developing offseason. So if some teams still need the number two, basically, or, you know, if you go back two years, it was a number one. I do think Cease is going to move in the next three to four months,
You know, between now and July 31st. And if the Guardians are out of it, for sure, Bieber will. It’s just a question of whether any of them move in the next few weeks. A final one, just for me, Jesse, you’ve heard this narrative, this, you know, this good for baseball
Discussion in the off season where the, where the Dodgers have spent what 1.2 billion or so, maybe it’s more than that. And the rest of baseball, maybe, you know, you add it all up. Maybe they’re in that same category is what the Dodgers have done in your opinion, quote unquote, good for baseball.
My short answer is yes, but, But that also, but along with that is a lot of other teams doing things that are bad for baseball. I just mentioned the White Sox. Okay. But you could take any team. Why does the team that won 100 games go to the mat and
Spend and get the best players available while teams that lost 102 games like the White Sox don’t do that kind of stuff or the Pirates or any of these perennial teams? Like it makes no sense. I don’t blame the Dodgers. They are just putting a, spotlight on these other
Teams that won’t do it now there’s there’s caveats to this it certainly sounded like otani and yamamoto wanted to play in la but it wasn’t like 30 teams were bidding on them either like you just that’s where you can make that argument for salary cap I mean the best
Players come on the market every year and there’s five to eight teams that are going to get them once in a while you know lately the padres will jump in and you know that happens normally in the past But really, we kind of know who’s going to
Be in the mix of the best players. So I think it’s good for baseball because why not? Players should get paid. But Austin actually highlights the teams that don’t. Maybe we’re going to be at a tipping point with owners. Peter Seidler wanted to win. Steve Cohen wants to win.
The Dodgers want to win. There’s other teams that say they want to win, but don’t back it up. And maybe there’ll be a tipping point here where there’s more and more billionaires out there Maybe the teams will be owned by players that really want to win and will
Do whatever it takes to do that. So the free market system, why should all the great players go to one team? But, hey, kudos to the Dodgers for doing it. I’m not going to say it’s bad because I think it highlights teams that won’t do it and puts pressure on them,
And maybe they’ll be changed down the road. Jesse, we love your reporting. We appreciate your time. San Diegans, thank you. And we’re looking forward to the start of spring training and the start of the season for the Padres. It’s in Korea, March 20th. Thanks so much for hopping on here today, Jesse.
Thank you. Jesse Rogers with ESPN. It’s an interesting way of looking at it. If you’re going to be fair on the subject, I think that’s a reasonable way to look at it. Listen, if other teams aren’t going to do it, that doesn’t mean that some teams shouldn’t continue to
Pursue the end goal is winning. So if your end goal is winning, put your money where your mouth is. That I understand. And that’s something that Peter Seidler did for the three plus years that he was the primary owner of the team. And Jesse’s right. It should highlight more what teams aren’t doing.
Right. Like Oakland. Looking at you. Miami. Pittsburgh. Well, Pittsburgh. They signed Rolls Chapman. Great. And the A’s signed Trevor Rosenthal two years ago. The Rockies. Yeah. They signed Bryant last year. A couple years ago. Just the White Sox. Yep. All right. The Cleveland Guardians. Sure. All right. It should highlight the
Teams that don’t spend money. Like, what are you guys doing? You clearly can spend money. You just have owners that don’t want to do it. Or they’re people that want to just pocket the money or completely ruin your franchise and move them to Las Vegas. And what if the owner says, well,
We’re going to model ourselves after the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, who never spend any money and they’re always in the playoffs almost every year. The Tampa Bay Rays… It’s easy to say that, but they’re the only one that can actually do it. I know, but that would be my excuse.
If you’re like, well, why aren’t you spending money? You have to spend money. Well, Tampa Bay doesn’t spend money, and they still win. Why aren’t you yelling at Tampa Bay? They are an exception to the rule. They’ve been an exception. But then if I’m a fan of that team, then I’m saying, well,
If you’re trying to emulate the Tampa Bay Rays, why aren’t you winning? If you’re winning, it’s a much easier argument to have. But when you’re not winning and you’re trying to tell me that you’re trying to run a team like the Tampa Bay Rays, it’s like, no, no, no. The argument is invalid
Because they’re winning and you’re not. Well, here’s the other thing. What he said about, hey, it’s a free market economy and the fact that the Dodgers are spending just puts a spotlight on every other team. I’m fine with that. Like we said months ago, I was always content with
Otani signing with the team. Nobody said don’t sign. Yeah. Nobody said don’t get five, six, $700 million even. Where we took exception was the deferral. I would not have taken exception to the deal if the Dodgers signed into a $700 million deal. And we would have said, wow, what money. That sucks.
He’s in division. I can’t believe they have that kind of money. We could have pointed out TV deals and the disparities. The fact that he landed somewhere, no big deal. Of course, he was always going to land somewhere. The fact that It felt as if,
I don’t know if this is fair or not, the system was skirted a bit is where I felt as if they were taking advantage of the rules. Well, when you have a deferral amount that was so large and 90 plus percent of the entire contract, that’s when the eyebrows raise.
If Otani signed and deferred $150 million, no one’s talking about it. Like, because… Because guess what? There’s a lot of players in baseball that defer money. And we didn’t even realize it. And you don’t even realize it because it’s not 90% of a contract. Right, 15%. 10%, maybe tops 20%.
You never see a contract that is signed and… 97% of the deal is deferred. All of it is deferred. That never happens. That’s why this was such a glaring… What? ! moment yeah I agree with you all right eight seven seven seven six seven four seven sixty if you want to weigh
In eight seven seven seven six seven four seven sixty we have jenna jackson nelly tickets we’ll give away coming up at 4 45 we’ll get to the rapid 4 30 dave wants to weigh in dave you’re on with john and jim thanks for calling in yeah thanks again guys to back
To the conversation here on the on the salary to a certain extent um I’ve been of the opinion and I think it’s borne itself out so far that there’s a bit of a reset going on outside of the dodgers now The other thing, guys, you have to keep in mind, look, we spent,
We being the Padres, spent a hell of a lot of money last year, and it didn’t get us into the World Series like it was projected, nor was it even close. So spending money in and of itself is not always the be-all, end-all. I mean, you can include, Jim,
As far as other teams that have not spent money that are outpacing the Padres right now, And we’ll outpace them most likely next year, include Baltimore in that mix, include Cincinnati into that mix to a large extent, even though Cincinnati spent a little bit more money this offseason. So it’s about not spending
All of the money. It’s how you spend it. And I think we’ve all talked together about the spending of the Padres not at a lot of times being as smart as it could be or should be considering the the amounts that are out there or that they’ve spent. So I would offer that.
And, you know, we’ll see what happens. There’s no guarantees that, you know, even with the Dodgers spending the money that they’re going to come in first place at the end of the year. Dave, right? Yeah, we appreciate it. I mean, we had Dan Zaborski on. Thank you, Dave.
He said there’s a 15% chance. I mean, all he does is crunch numbers. He said, analytically speaking, at Fangraphs, there’s a 10% to 15% chance Not that the Padres win it, but that the Dodgers do not win the NL West in 2024. That’s what the math would say heading into the year.
Yeah, and to what Dave said there, we’ve talked about this. It’s about spending the money, like spending smart money. If you sign a guy to a $260 million contract or $280 million contract for 11 years, is that smart money spent? Great question. Or it would have been a
Smarter idea to go out and use that money to get three guys for the same cost. It’s about spending smart money. And Preller has had a very difficult time spending smart money. I think Joe Musgrove, five for 100, that to me, smart money. Because you’re not breaking the bank.
You got him for five years in his prime. And more often than not, when he’s out there healthy, he’s going to perform for you. When you give Xander Bogart’s 11 years a $280 million contract, yet to be seen, but after year one, looks like a bad contract. And you ask yourself,
That’s a great example, because why was it that Boston, the team he won two World Series with, was unwilling to go beyond the $150 million threshold with him? Now, they were criticized within the market. And by the way, they’ve changed GM since that moment. But you have to wonder,
Did Boston make a pretty good determination? Were they thinking more dollars and cents than reacting to kind of what he had meant to the organization? I mean, he had won two titles. Does that mean you should go lock him up for his 30s because of what he did in his 20s?
And if the Red Sox weren’t going beyond the mid-100s, why did a team double that number? Because that’s a completely different stratosphere. Because Boston didn’t value him there. Why did the Padres value him there? Yeah, if you sign Xander Bogarts to a five-year $125 million contract. Great. Great. 11 for 280?
Too rich for a lot of teams. It’s just so risky. And now they might’ve had to do it because again, getting someone here as a free agent, like in the past has been tough. So you have to go above and beyond and overspend and, and to give him that big time contract,
You have to add more years and it creates the AAV to go down. So, you know, 11 years, 10 years, 14 years, right? It’s eight years, seven years. You’re like, well, they had to do it because that was kind of the business that they’re, they’re trying to get themselves into. But you know,
We’ll see. And as of right now, no, no money’s even being spent. So we can’t even discuss if it’s smart money or not. Here’s the thing. It’s kind of like, you know, Colorado typically to get pitching needs to trade for it or completely overspend for it. Yeah. San Diego is the opposite example.
If you want hitting, you got to go buy it because everyone knows it’s not a good hitter’s yard. I don’t know if overpay is the right word, but you absolutely have to pay top dollar to get premium hitters, or you’ve got to make a marquee trade like they did
For Juan Soto because it has not been and will not be a good place to hit. That’s held true for the 20 years of Petco Park. All right, on the other side, we will get to the wrap. We’re going to thank Cadillac John as well. Hope you’re listening, Cadillac John.
Hope you’re listening, Cadillac John. You can call in if you want because we’re going to open up your present on air next. Plus, a chance to win tickets to see Janet Jackson and Nelly later this hour. Stay with us on John and Jim. All right, on the other side,
We’ve got some presence in studio, plus the wrap, plus this hour, your chance to win tickets to see Janet Jackson and Nelly. That’s next. All right, this update is brought to you by Staples Stores. We’ll start in the NFL. The Atlanta Falcons have a new head coach. It’s not Bill Belichick.
It’s Raheem Morris. He was the defensive coordinator for the Rams this past season. Other news in the NFL, Debo Samuel returned to the 49ers practice today. after a shoulder injury in the divisional round versus the Packers ahead of the NFC Championship game versus the Lions this upcoming weekend. And tonight is the Brian
Dutcher Coaches Show, 6 p.m. right here on San Diego Sports 760 with Coach Dutch and John. Staples print big sale means the more you print, the more you save. Get $20 off your print purchase of $100 or more, $50 off your print purchase of $200 or more, and $100 off your print
Purchase of $300 or more. Ends 2-10-24. See staples.com slash print for details. Print more, save more at Staples. All right, about 15 minutes. We’ll give away Janet Jackson and Nelly tickets for this summer at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheater. Tickets at LiveNation.com. We have a very loyal listener, Cadillac John, right? Correct.
And he sent us a package in the mail. Were you expecting a package from Cadillac John? I was not, no. I don’t think any of us were. Okay, so this is out of, like, thin air. Thin air. Got an email from the front desk a couple days ago. Oh, really?
So it’s been here for a couple of days? Well, I went up there the other day. No one was there. Okay. And usually, like, they’re in, like, the room, in the room with, like, the mail room. Yeah. The door was locked, so I couldn’t go in there. And then today…
It’s literally on our desk, just sitting there to Jim from John. And I didn’t know his last name. I was like, who’s this guy? Okay. And of course, you know, the, the letter inside the packaging says this is for John, Jim and Brent enjoy from Cadillac, John. So thank you, Cadillac, John.
So inside the package, just thank you very much. Our three wrapped packages, Purple tin things. Yeah, that are like circular. So let’s open these up. All right. Brent’s got one. I’m guessing it’s like chocolate. I’m guessing. I’m hoping it’s like gold bars. I hope it’s money or money. Yeah, it is.
Ooh, pistachio brittle. from Pajama Sweets. Persian Delight. Thank you, Kev. Look at this. You’re watching on YouTube. This thing is very nice. Smells good. Smells very good. Should we open this up during the show? No, because I don’t think eating brittle on the show is a good idea.
You’d be stuck in your teeth for two hours. It’s kind of hard. Yeah, it looks good. Smells good. Send us things. We’ll open them on air. It’s a new segment. Send us presents. Send us things. We’ll open them on air. Yes, we’ll open them up. So thank you for that.
Thank you, Cadillac John. That’s very kind. All right, so we’ve got these Janet Jackson Nelly tickets that we’ll give away coming up at 445. Trainwreck Radio, which is always a trainwreck, by the way. Very much so. We are hoping to get to the wrap, although Brent right now is
Talking on the line with someone. Yeah, I don’t know what’s happening back there. I can’t wait to hear what’s happening. I don’t know. We’re going to hear about it, I think, at the break. Maybe we’ll get to the wrap then in the 5 o’clock hour? Potentially, potentially. There’s a couple of
Interesting stories there. You’ve had one of them in the update. We’ll see if Brent’s about to get off. But the idea that Raheem Morris was hired over Bill Belichick And then there’s like an article literally right now at ESPN.com. Like, why was Raheem Morris hired over Bill Belichick?
It is a little bit of like a double take. Just that idea. Like, you’re hiring who? You’re hiring anyone really over Bill Belichick? It’s not, you know, Jim Harbaugh. I mean, that is a little surprising. I figured when Belichick, didn’t he interview two times in Atlanta? Twice, yeah.
And then Jim Harbaugh interviewed there. I figured at that point it was done. Yeah. I’m surprised no other team interviewed Bill Belichick. Is he done? I mean, look, if you’re not going to hire Bill Belichick, something had to have gone wrong there. Control? Did he want to do the whole thing? Maybe.
I don’t know. I don’t know. Wouldn’t you say Bill Belichick would be a good coaching hire or not right now? I think he’s a good coaching hire. I mean, I understand that he’s at the end of his career, obviously. It’s not going to be a seven-year fix. Maybe it’s three.
But, I mean, it’s Bill Belichick. It speaks for itself, right? He gets credibility the second he walks in the room. The second he walks in the room, oh, Bill Belichick, seven, six, sorry, six Super Bowls. Six World Series, too. Six World Series. Which is amazing. And six NBA championships.
He’s won six in every single sport. And six Stanley Cups. Perfect. Okay, so Morris was previously in Atlanta. Okay, so there’s that connection. But it speaks for itself. Belichick’s resume. Who even cares? I don’t care if Raheem Morris previously was in Atlanta. I mean, it’s Bill Belichick.
If he wants the job, can he have it? If Jim Harbaugh wanted the Chargers job, couldn’t he have had it? That’s what happened. Well, there’s a lot of things that happened with the Jim Harbaugh Chargers thing that had to be okayed first and agreed upon. It wasn’t just… So you’re
Thinking maybe it fell apart in that process. Yeah, like, hey, be our head coach. No, no, no. There’s a lot that goes into it. Bill Belichick, if he’s going to be your head coach, he’s also going to have say in personnel. He’s also going to have a say in a lot of things.
It’s not just going to be, oh, you’re our head coach. You’re going to have to give him… A lot of power. Like, a lot of power here. And I don’t know if maybe Bill Belichick just said no. Like, what if they offered him the job and he goes, actually, thinking about it more,
I’m going to say no on that one. Well, ESPN says multiple sources have said for weeks Arthur Blank went into the process wanting Belichick, but there were hurdles that couldn’t be cleared. The organizational structure in Atlanta involves Blank and CEO Rich McKay. And a lot of the discussion with Belichick centered on
The idea of what McKay’s role would be if Belichick came to coach the team. To your initial point, it’s a power thing. If Belichick wanted it run a certain way and Atlanta was unwilling to do that, although even that is surprising to me, like you wouldn’t kind of bend over backwards to make
The organizational structure work for Bill Belichick. Why wouldn’t you do that? I don’t know. Because you don’t want to get rid of Rich McKay? Yeah. The whole thing is, if you’re a Falcons fan, which I’m sure there’s a lot of people listening out there, a ton of Falcons fans,
A ton of Falcons fans. We should just go Falcons radio. For the station. Yeah, Falcons wrap-up show, too. I like that. Yeah. That’s smart. Let’s brand our show after the Falcons now. Put a little, like, Falcon in our Jonathan logo. Yes, Falcons talk. Yeah. San Diego Sports 760. 365. Station. Never mind.
San Diego Sports, where we don’t talk San Diego Sports. We just talk Falcons. Yeah, love it. I don’t hate it. Me neither. So, if you’re a Falcons fan, you’re like… Really? How did Bill Belichick get out the building without you offering him the head coaching job? Is Belichick the winner, by the way,
In this? Are you going to go win a Super Bowl in Atlanta in the next three years? Let me answer that. No. You want to go somewhere that it’s pretty much they need a head coach to reign everybody in. They’re close, but they haven’t gotten over that hump yet.
The Falcons have no quarterback. That’s a big problem. It’s a big problem. If you told me Belichick chargers, I’d be like, Oh wow. He’s got a quarterback. And that’s kind of a starting point. Like if you told me hardball and we talked about it, nobody, we didn’t say yesterday and all that talk.
Oh, it’s impossible to win Jim Harbaugh. We didn’t say that. No, we had a full other conversation about it, but Belichick to the chargers wouldn’t have surprised me. The Falcons thing. Maybe he’s better off to be honest. Who, what else is open now? What’s open in the NFL vacancies are the,
It’s a good question. Is Tennessee open or no? don’t think so there’s a today the panthers just hired the offensive coordinator for the tampa bay buccaneers that’s obviously like a dead-end job okay the four tell me if I’m wrong here we have seahawks oh yeah seattle does not have a coach um we
Have commanders commanders do not have a coach panthers you said made a hire today correct yeah um is there someone other than in atlanta that’s it so you have three jobs you got atlanta open jim you got seattle open and you have washington Any of those jobs? I mean, Washington,
You could try and make the case just because they have a new owner there. They have the third overall pick on the draft and get a quarterback. You can do things there with the cap that they have. But Atlanta, I don’t see it. This is going to be one of
The great stories Brent will ever tell us off air at break. He is still on the phone. I mean, can we just… No, I kind of like… Did you ever in your time… Here’s a serious question. Did you ever in your time producing here or elsewhere ever have like a crazy back
And forth with a listener? No, I have, but it was mostly like… over opinions they didn’t like gotcha yeah there was some of that or like hey you guys suck and I’m like sorry you don’t like it and he’s like you guys in a lot did you ever have a lengthy
Conversation with anyone uh curse you out or not like this no no I would i A lot of times, if that person started cursing me out because of things that that person heard on the radio that they didn’t like from the host, then I would just say, thanks for listening. Goodbye. You know,
The most calls that one year I did it for Mark and Rich, there was a lot of Kaepernick discussion. It was in like the year following that. Man, there would be a lot of heated calls over that. That was a very polarizing topic on the radio. You remember that.
When it actually happened in San Diego, right? Yeah, it was super polarizing. The first place it happened was here in San Diego. Preseason. Preseason versus the 49ers. Something like that, whatever it was. I know. But I remember those calls is my point. But Brent has literally been
On the phone right now with a caller Related, by the way, to Trainwreck Radio, and it truly is a trainwreck. Oh my gosh. I cannot wait to hear this story. I don’t know if I want to hear it. I cannot wait to hear this story off air. Oh, that’s one listener.
We’ll see what we can share. All right, on the other side, here’s what we’re going to do. Speaking of Trainwreck Radio, who wants tickets to see Janet Jackson and Nelly? The number to call, we’re going to play trivia. One person will win. We’ll have two contestants. 877-767-4760. Get back on the phone, Brent.
Who wants these tickets? Janet Jackson and Nelly, North Island Credit Union Amphitheater, June 6th. Tickets available at LiveNation.com. This has been a great giveaway for us. Tons of calls on this. Janet Jackson and Nelly, North Island Credit Union Amphitheater, June 6th. 877-767-4760. Trainwreck Radio. That’s next on John and Jim.

Nelly or is it janet jackson I don’t know what the hell just happened We are going to play train wreck radio. We’ve got a good giveaway for you here today. By the way, Cynthia Freeland, NFL network. Here’s how I conjured to join us again this week. Cause she’s a great guest.
I’m like, listen, your lions keep winning. So you’re basically obligated. Oh yeah. Look at Jim’s react. Are you kidding me right now? I said, the lions keep winning. Don’t you want to join us? That was, yes, that was the, and then I replied with a lion emoji. That’s what you,
That’s what the thing you said to her to come on. Let me see the tweet. Hi, Cynthia. It’s Sean again in San Diego, whatever this is. Text. Can you join us again? Then in parentheses, it’s been good luck for your line so far. Exclamation point to preview championship Sunday tomorrow at three 30,
Four 30 or five 30. Thanks again. And she said, let’s do four 30 exclamation point. I said, sounds great. Thank you, Cynthia. Lion emoji, the little lion head. Okay. With this like furry beard or whatever they call that thing. If, The Lions beat the Niners this Sunday? Okay.
It has to do with this? I’m 100% blaming you. That’s fine. I don’t care. That’s completely fine. Would I prefer Cynthia Freeland join us every week or the Niners win? I’d prefer Cynthia Freeland join us every week. It’s for our listeners. I prefer the Niners win. I agree. I would, too,
If I was a lifelong Niners fan. Because then I’m happy. And then I won’t be grumpy. And then the show’s better. And then I won’t sit here pouting all the time. I know. I think she’ll join us either way for the Super Bowl, I would guess. They’ve made it all the way
To the championship game. The Lions. That’s a good run. You’re going to have to ask her to join us next week instead. Next week is the bye week. She’s not joining us for the bye week. Hey, do you want to talk about the Super Bowl in 10 days?
You’re going to have to ask her to join us on Monday. No, she’s coming on tomorrow. You’re going to have to ask her to join us on Monday. She’s joining us tomorrow at 4.30. And we’re going to talk about how the Lions beat the Niners. This happened when we had J.B. Long. Exactly.
And they beat the Niners. I know. They beat the Niners. And J.B. Long is like, you guys are my good luck charm. Cynthia Freeland is like, you guys are my good luck charm for the Lions. Well, she knows you’re a Niners fan, I think. I actually saw a picture of
Her on social media. She was hugging the Lions. I saw that. Yeah. I saw that. Will the lions mascot make the trip? No, usually don’t have mascots for the away games. They should have a live mascot, like a real lion on the sideline. Yeah. Smart idea. Just let them roam. Yeah.
What could go wrong? What could go wrong? Let’s play. You’re so mad. Jim, maybe here coming on has also been double good luck for the Niners. Niners have won. Maybe that’s the only reason they won last week. Okay. Yeah. Maybe. Go glass half full here. Yeah. Maybe that’s the reason why. Okay.
Their lines never win anything. Niners are in the Super Bowl every 10 minutes. They just don’t win. What’s the question? What are we doing? All right, three questions, two contestants, one lifeline. To these two contestants, we have Ron and we have Mitch. Ron, you called in first,
So you have your choice of John or Jim. Who do you want to go with? John. Smart. Thank you, Ron. All right, Mitch, you get me, okay? Okay. All right. He’s like, damn it. All right, Brent, what’s today’s question of the day? All right, guys, the finalists for NFL MVP were announced today.
Believe it or not, since 2013, there’s only been seven different players that have been named MVP. Today’s question, name any of those seven MVPs since 2013. Good question. I like it. All right, so Mitch is up first. Mitch, what is your first guess? You do have a lifeline if
You choose to use it. Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes. He’s been an MVP. A couple times. Yep. A couple times. Ron, you’re up next. What is your first guess? You do have a lifeline if you want to use it. Aaron Rodgers. Aaron. A-Ron. Did he win one last year with the Jets? I forget.
No, he didn’t, actually, because he was on the Jets this year, not last year. No, I mean this past season. Oh, yeah, no, he played three snaps. Yeah, you have to play more than three snaps to qualify. But the American flag was cool. I love the videos of highlights. Yeah, that’s it.
All right, Mitch, you’re up next. What is your second guess? You do have a lifeline if you want to use it. Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson. Bingo. Ron, what’s your second guess? You do have a lifeline if you want to use it. Tom Brady. Tom Brady. On the list. On the list.
Mitch, to go three for three here, what’s your final guess? You do have a lifeline if you want to use it. Matthew Stafford. Stafford MVP. No. Oh, no. Oh, Ron. Okay. I’m okay. Ron, you could walk off with a win here and you have a lifeline. What do you got?
I’ll try the right one. Okay. I have it in my head. I have the correct answer, too. Well, there’s three correct answers, right, Brent? Still left? I don’t know if this is accurate. You know me. This is a little bit of a reach. This is a little bit of a reach.
I’m going to say Russell Wilson. Do you take that, Ron? Yeah, I’ll take that one. He’s like never gotten a first place vote for MVP. Oh, sorry. I don’t have the votes in front of me. The correct answer is Cam Newton. Yeah, that’s a little obscure now. It’s obscure,
But he won it and the Panthers made the Super Bowl. Okay, that would have been a crap. Who else is on the list, Brent? The only two you missed were Cam Newton and Matt Ryan. Matt Ryan, I was thinking that, but I thought you’d say I’m an idiot.
Well, you’re even more of an idiot now. So now we’re going to overtime. Okay. All right, guys, how overtime works is I’m going to ask you a question. When I’m done asking the question, you’re going to yell out the name of your partner today. Yell either John or Jim, whoever you played with.
Don’t yell the answer. Whoever yells out the name of their partner first, you’re going to win the game by getting the question right, or you’re going to lose the game by getting the question wrong. You guys both got it? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Today’s overtime question. Who’s hosting the AFC title game?
I heard Jim. Yeah, I did too. Mitch, what do you got? Who’s hosting the AFC? Yep, that is correct. For the win, Mitch, you are going to see Janet Jackson with Nelly. Speaking of MVPs, you get two right there. Yeah. Right at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheater. Yeah,
It’s definitely a little step up from Brock Purdy and Jared Goff. Yeah, definitely. I feel bad for like, again, Ron chose me. And I got my lifeline wrong. And Mitch chose me, but he didn’t use his lifeline. But then he actually ended up winning, so I feel okay. I know you do.
I feel bad. So you’re saying Russell Wilson was a really bad guess? Really bad guess, yeah. Did he win a Super Bowl MVP? No, he didn’t. No, he did not. No, Skittles got it. Oh, did he? Marshawn? Did Marshawn get it that one year? Was it Marshawn? I thought it was a defensive
Player because they blew out the Broncos. I think it had to have been… like it was a random defensive player. Someone looked that up. It was a random defensive player. You look it up. You’re gonna be like, who’s that guy. Right. But it wasn’t like, didn’t the Patriots have like Butler winning one.
It was a linebacker. I forget his name. Is that right? Yeah. It’s Malcolm Smith. Malcolm. Wow. That’s crazy. Yeah. Well, Mitch, congratulations. You’ve won two free tickets to see Janet Jackson with Nelly at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheater June 6th. Tickets are available at LiveNation.com or keep listening this week for
More chances to win. What day is today? Thursday? Thursday, John. So we have another chance to win coming up tomorrow. All right. On the other side, there is a lot to get into. We haven’t even gotten to the wrap, right? We’ll do the wrap coming up. On the other side,
To kick off our number three plus Jim’s back, Paige is still ahead. Hour three, John and Jim next. Hey guys, it is shave free. You need to get to the brand new Novo Brazil brewing location that just opened about a week ago in Mission Valley because it’s spectacular.

The Atlanta Falcons have hired their next head coach, and it’s not Bill Belichick. It’s Raheem Morris, the defensive coordinator from the L.A. Rams this past season. Other news in the NFL, Debo Samuel returned to practice today for the 49ers ahead of their game versus the Lions this weekend in the NFC Championship game.

Did you see Colorado State last night? I’m sure you were watching. I didn’t watch one second. You didn’t watch Colorado state, Nevada last night in Reno. That surprises me. I watched less than a second. Okay. Well, anyway, Nevada won that game and Colorado state plays again Saturday.
And then look at the Aztecs on Tuesday. So anyway, we’ll talk to Brian doctor about the league, about their 16 and four start about what’s still to come coming up tonight at 6 PM. If you’d like to stick around for it, you’re invited. You could absolutely join. That’s your job, man.
I don’t want to, I don’t want to, I don’t want to intrude on, on, I don’t think you’re in the intro this year though. Oh, was he in the intro for last year? He was in the intro like all year. I was. Yeah. These two years ago.

He’s four. You don’t just be like, hey, let me steal your lunchbox. Do you think they’d give it to Jim? If he shaves. Well, he used to get kids meals at Rubio and they bought that. True. I get kids tickets for movies. Yeah. Of course you do. I am 12. I am 12.
Here’s my birth certificate. To me, the best one, I think the one that people are going to go crazy over the most is the Joe Musgrove and his dog, Bobblehead. That, to me, is probably the one that I think people are going to want the most this year of the giveaways.
There’s a lot of great ones. Don’t get me wrong. There’s a lot of really good bobbleheads, but the Joe Musgrove and his dog bobblehead, that’s a pretty good one. My favorite is the City Connect poncho. What? That to me is the best giveaway. That thing looks like a unicorn got lost in Mexico.
I know why you’re doing that. It’s spectacular. It’s the best, the best giveaway in the history of giveaways is the poncho. The city connects poncho. Next question. No, you know, do you guys think Colin Kaepernick will be offered a spot on Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staff? Wait, what? Colin Kaepernick to the NFL
Coaching staff. why he’s never coached before ever. It’s true. Got to start somewhere. Yeah. Where did you hear this? Cause I pro football talk. Okay. Will Colin Kaepernick be offered a spot on Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staff? Of course, quarterbacks that Niners team made it all the way to the Superbowl.
Jim Harbaugh said coach about what? 10 years ago. Yeah. But he, but he’s never coached before. Yeah, but they didn’t say what he’s going to coach. It’s not like he’s going to make him OC or something like that. No, but that would be amazing. Hey, Colin,
Can you be our stats guy for us? That’s a good point. Can you be like my, I don’t know. Strength and conditioning. He’s still in good shape. At least it looks like it. Is he a trainer? Is he even certified? There’s a lot of things. Okay, PFT reported two years ago that if
Harbaugh landed the Minnesota job, then he would have considered the possibility of bringing Colin Kaepernick as the quarterback’s coach two years ago. Does he even want to do it? And secondly, to your point, do you get your start in the NFL? Maybe. I guess my question is, is that going to violate
His thing that he signed with the NFL? I wouldn’t think so. You know how old he is, by the way? Any guesses? 35? He’s only 36. It’s crazy. He’s been out for how long? Almost a decade. Seven years. Yeah, it’s crazy. So still only 36. So do you say no?
Yeah, I say no. I say no. I’d be surprised. Next question. Gee, I wonder who wrote this one. How is LeBron an all-star and Steph isn’t? Actually, I wrote it, but he was complaining about it, so I put it in there. It’s a valid question, guys. How is LeBron? I mean, LeBron, look,
If we’re giving away lifetime achievement awards, then yeah, put LeBron in there because he’s the leading scorer in all NBA history and they won the in-season tournament. Has he not been good? I mean, I don’t watch much Laker basketball. For his age. The team’s not good. He’s averaging 25 points, 7.2 rebounds,
7.4 assists. That’s good. Is that all-star caliber? I would think it was caliber 25, seven and seven steps averaging 27, five and five. Yeah. Here’s the difference though. What position is LeBron play? everything just run over people but technically they don’t have him as uh front court so he wouldn’t be
Voted in the same thing because he’s not a guard well it’s just a start forward it’s just the starters announced not the actual oh if anything you should be are you mad that the guy from okc that can never say his middle name guilders alexander Yeah.
Are you mad that he made it over stuff? Cause he’s the one that made it over him for a point guard. Nope. Nope. He deserves it. He deserves it. So, okay. LeBron is a small forward. Steph is 27. Good point. I get it. 27, five and four.
Now, which team is… Do they both suck? They’re both not great, the Warriors and the Lakers right now. They’re both… What is their record? Kind of very average. They’re both… Similar records? Yeah. Yeah. I think the Lakers are maybe a game or two. Oh, you know what got it? He’s got a banner.
LeBron’s got a banner this year. Steph doesn’t. Actually, the Lakers are better than the Warriors. All right. There you go. There’s another thing. What is the Warriors record? 19 and 22. What happened? Yeah, but they’re probably still going to get in the play-in tournament. Lakers are 22-23. We should know.
We’re the home of the Lakers in San Diego. True. You can catch them tonight at 7.15. Yeah, San Diego sports. Lakers basketball. What is wrong with you today? Or just what’s wrong with you? Go talk about your poncho some more. Next question. Will Bill Belichick get another job?
I think it’s going to be a year-off thing, and then he’ll be the head coach next year. Oh, really? Okay. How old is he? He’s old. He’s in his 70s. Okay. So, year-off. Year-off. Because there’s better jobs maybe next offseason? He’s 71. Okay. He’s got, what, four years left in him?
I mean, I don’t know. what’s it like to coach yeah yeah definitely he could coach isn’t pete carroll older than him maybe like coaching right now but right I don’t know. I think he will coach again. If he was interviewing for a job this year twice,
I think he still has got the itch. And he even mentioned it in his press conference with the Patriots that he still wants to coach. Would he take a job? Would he settle? Or would he wait? Would he just take a job? Would he take that Washington job if it’s offered to him?
What if Jim Harbaugh offers him his defensive coordinator job? No. No. Kid, I’m kidding. I mean, there’s no imagine. No, I couldn’t. To be honest, I really couldn’t. He either leads another team. But again, do you settle if you’re Bill Belichick? Why would you do that? You wouldn’t.
That’s why probably the Falcons job. Maybe he looked at it like, I’m just settling here. I’m not getting exactly what I want. Then I’ll wait. Maybe he talked to some people were like, dude, Bill, look, I know you want to coach, but this this roster, like it’s going to be a
While before you win. Right. You have to wait and go somewhere that we can win right away. Pete Carroll, 72. The hoodie is 71. That’s crazy. That’s wild. Can you turn off Nelly? No. I do like some country grammar. And again, you can win tickets tomorrow. Janet Jackson and Nelly.
Yeah, I don’t know. I wouldn’t settle if I was Bill Belichick. I wouldn’t settle. So we’ll see if he coaches again or not. I guess it’s a possibility. We’re going to have to wait and find out. We started the show by talking about the Padres’ promotional calendar.
That’s how slow of an offseason it’s been. We then caught up with Jesse Rogers, by the way, from ESPN. And, you know, I found it interesting that if you read Jeff Paston today, by the way, at ESPN.com, he did theorize the Padres as a potential spender once we
Get out of this deep freeze, so to speak. Like… Paston wrote today, don’t expect anything of significance until February. This will thaw out, so to speak, all the Boris clients. And once it does thaw out, he had the Padres among a series of teams, maybe five or six,
To possibly be a spender on the other side. Now we’ve questioned, will they be a spender or not? Paston today kind of confirming, I guess, at ESPN that he does see the Padres on the other side of this. It’s been slow, but as a team that could spend between now and the
Start of the season. See, I would have, and I’m going to tell you the reason why I believe that they could spend. I would have believed you yesterday, and I was on that, like, yeah, they’re not going to spend. There’s no way that we haven’t heard anything about them even potentially
Giving a big-time contract to anybody. But John Heyman reported today that they were not only in on Jung-Hoo Lee, which we knew, But they were offering over $100 million to John Hooley. And what did he get with the Giants? Just over $100 million. $116. Add on like the money that it costs. Posting.
The posting fees. It was like almost $130 million. like total from the giants. Now, John Hooli got 116, but that to me is very interesting. So it was made. That’s interesting to me too, that you had maybe a stare down and the Padres, let’s just make it up,
Offered 100 and the giants went to 116. And then the Padres maybe wouldn’t match. And honestly, do I really blame them? That’s a ton of money, ton of money for someone that’s has never played in the big leagues, but you need outfielders and you need like stability in the outfield.
Jung-Hoo Lee is a guy that, I mean, if he was on this roster right now, we’d be feeling a lot different. And we wouldn’t be talking about the money at all because all I care about is the players in the field. Well, hold on. If I’m offering Jung-Hoo Lee $100 million,
Why don’t I take my $100 million and give it to Ha-Sung Kim? Or you take the $100 million and get like three players. True, but I don’t know what I can do. See, the issue with this free agent class is Is if I’m not getting the top of the class,
Am I just kind of quote-unquote wasting money for stopgaps? You know, 15 on this back-end starter and 14 on this DH. And what am I really buying? Buying one year worth of… Yeah, you’re trying to win. Midness, though? See what I’m saying? Like, what am I buying? At this point in time,
Midness is better than nothingness. But I’m saying, would you prefer the midness or would you prefer Hasan Kim locked up? I’d prefer Hassan Kim locked up, but I’d also prefer them to get an outfield. Right. Yeah, I agree. They have multiple things they need to do. The Hassan Kim contract, to me,
Is something to worry about at the end of the season. Not right now. It’s something that we definitely talk about because it’s a talking point. But it’s definitely below things like who’s going to be in their outfield. They’re starting pitching their bench depth. The last thing I’m worried
About is Hassan Kim getting an extension. Last thing, really? Because I think if you play this thing out, it’s a little bit of game of risk. You play it out. He gets to free agency. You now pay premium dollar, even if you’re going to pay what the market says he’s worth.
You get him now and maybe heading into a walk year, you can get him to commit to you. Like if I’m the player, if I’m the player and someone offers me right now 90 or 100 million dollars. Yeah, you might get to 125 or 150 on the other side, but you might not.
So, like, would you take the guarantee right now if you’re Hasan Kim of four years, $90 million? I’d be tempted to do that if I was in his shoes. Yeah, but do you think AJ Prowler’s sitting there and on his whiteboard, the to-do list, like, man, we would have to really
Focus on locking up Hasan Kim when we don’t have any outfields, we don’t have enough starting pitching, and we have no first baseman that’s better than Jake Cronenworth. We have the bench, which we have, which is not good. Put that to the side, but let’s go give Hasan Kim an extension.
I mean, your point is valid, but I’m not certain all those needs are more important than Kim in his prime remaining here. You just lost Soto in his prime from playing here. You do have three core players that are currently in their prime in Tatis, Machado, and Bogarts,
But two of those players are in their 30s. how old’s kim uh 28 yeah he’s he’s in his 20s like yeah so I i I would want him here through age 32 age 33 and again maybe it’s not the first priority 28 thank you maybe it’s not the first priority but is that
Really a less on the totem pole than going out and signing michael lorenzen well at this point in time after hearing what john hayman said today how they were in for zhang huli for over 100 million right that to me tells me that um yeah these things are more important than ahasan kim
Exactly right now but that was different it’s like time changes things that conversation about zhang huli was how long ago six weeks and now to go yeah so the ship has sailed there and now it’s like well We were going to commit $100 million to Jung-Hoo Lee. Maybe we really liked him.
But we’re not going to now just go commit $100 million just to do it. If you had $100 million to spend right now, how would you spend it? Truth be told, I don’t know if I would spread it out with second-tier free agents. I might spend it on an outfielder like Bellinger.
I might spend it on a starter like Snell. Or I might spend it on an extension like Kim. And that’s been AJ’s biggest problem and his biggest puzzle to solve is if you give him $100 million to spend, are you going to go out and sign one player or are you
Going to go out and sign three players? True. And more often than not, he signs one player. And more often than not, the team has massive holes in other areas that he could use that money to get to fill up. That’s a good point. So… When I look at Jung-Hoo Lee,
Would I have liked Jung-Hoo Lee on this team? Abso-freaking-lutely. Now it would have been a massive risk and… You know, the track record isn’t great, but at least we would have known, all right, they have a center fielder in Jung-Hoo Lee and Fernando Tatis Jr. potentially could be the best center field,
Right field, defensive outfielders in all baseball. And you could not really have that much. And you can sign jerks in pro far to a low term to finish it out, put them in left field. And now we’re thinking about the outfield in a much different light than it is right now.
So you’d feel how much better in that scenario? A lot better or a little better? I don’t think I would feel… I mean, I was excited about Jung-Hoo Lee. I would feel a lot better, but I’d also have reservations of… Just you hope it pans out. I wouldn’t go on air and say
This would be a slam dunk signing. Jung-Hoo Lee is going to be the next all-star guy on this team, gold glove outfielder, 300 average, all that stuff. I would have said it’s nice to hear good things about Jung-Hoo Lee. You just hope he would pan out because that’s a lot of
Money for an unproven guy. Let me ask you this. You could spend $100 million on someone coming over from Japan that had a successful career, but is not some can’t-miss, oh-my-gosh generational player. He just isn’t. So you could do that, or you could look at a 22-year-old in your system,
In Jacob Marcy, and say, let’s see what we have in you. You can win a job in spring training. You make nothing. I’m asking this. I’m just asking the question. Jung-Hoo Lee in 2024 compared to… a rookie center fielder. You just had Trent Grisham, who was a negative replacement value player.
If I gave Jacob Marcy the job making $600K or Jung-Hoo Lee making $25 million a year, is the gap so wide that it’s a no-brainer to go with Jung-Hoo Lee when you tied up all your money in making that signing? No, it’s a good question. It’s the question of what
The teams that win get paid help from within their system because you’re not paying these guys a lot of money. And if you can get production out of your system at a, you know, and win at a high clip, that’s like the dream scenario. Like, wow, this guy is a borderline
All-star and we’re paying him nothing and he’s, and we’re winning or you pay a hundred million dollars to a guy and he’s average and you’re not winning. I get it. Right. I just, I look at it. What’s a, what gives you a better chance to win though? Jacob Marcy or Zung-Hoo Lee?
Long-term, I don’t even know what it’d be. I mean, I don’t know. I don’t know if Jacob Marcy’s going to be, I don’t know. I know he’s been talked about and he’s probably mentioned his name, but. The amazing thing is we’re going to get to spring training.
And like Jeff Passan literally wrote today, expect no movement at the top of the free agent market until February. The Padres, pitchers, and catchers report the second week of February, something like that, whenever the Super Bowl is. What day is that? February 11th. And maybe we do get to spring training with these
Questions unanswered. And you look at their 40-man roster, and there’s two outfielders on it. I never envisioned that to be the case. I still find it unlikely, to be honest. But, I mean, maybe that’s where we are. trending and heading and that’s going to leave a lot of open-ended questions for
Eric katsenda when he speaks with the media in two or three weeks I mean it really will and that’s why I asked um jesse rogers about him like what what is the plan for the padres of spending and he said you know the soto trade is all you need to know actually
That’s the plan words that’s the plan yeah they’re lowering payroll clearly by a lot yeah clearly so It’s going to be fascinating to see how they finish it off. I never thought we’d get to a point where we’d be like, what is going on here? But I mean,
February is going to get here and they’re going to have a lot of questions. I kind of had that feeling after the Soto trade. Cause you’re like, if they’re trading away Soto for, you know, flexibility, why would they just go out and all of a sudden just re-spend that money? Like,
Don’t they need to get rid of that money? Yes, yes. Now, they traded Soto, but then the Lee $100 million was discussed? Like, if I was capped out, if I needed to shore up, like, $100, because I’m broke, and I needed $100 to make sure, like, I…
Could buy food for the rest of the week. And I got that $100. Why would I automatically go out and just spend it on something else when I need to keep that money? Because that’s what people do. But the Padres were in a situation where they could not spend that money
Because of the luxury tax, the CBT. But then why were they in on Jung-Hoo Lee? I know. It’s weird. Now, Jung-Hoo Lee isn’t Soto money. No. You know what I mean? But it’s still a good amount. Yeah. So that’s the part that’s confusing. And maybe they’ve had that because we know Preller’s
Deals are all like kind of obscure. Right. Two years of the mutual and five year deal, a hundred million dollars, but everything’s backloaded. Right. So you get like, and you can opt out after one year. Yeah. You got like 2 million this year and then 22 and five years. Right.
Yeah, I don’t know. It’s interesting. It really is interesting. It felt like, hey, they have no money, and then you see John Heyman reports, well, actually, they offered Jung-Hoo Lee $100 million. They did? Another position player they were going to commit $100 million to. They were willing to do that. Wow.
That surprised me. Well, if you’re a Padres fan, you sit here and you hope that… Cross your fingers. That was a bullet that you dodged. Well, you cross your fingers hoping maybe they still are in the market to spend. Well, that too. That too. I’m just saying that if…
They were as heavily in on young who Lee as John Heyman’s reporting. They were, which I wouldn’t believe they weren’t. Yeah. Um, you just hope that with the giants, he turns out to be a bus and that, that a hundred dollars, the a hundred million dollars that you potentially could have
Spent on young who Lee didn’t turn out to be a disaster. Yeah, that’s true. That’s a good point. All right. On the other side, we’re going to get you ready for championship Sunday. Who does have the most approved this weekend? Plus Jim’s back pages ahead here on John and Jim.

Braden Burries was his name. Do you remember that name or that story? No, but I remember the story. So the reason I bring it up is that one of these recruiting services that covers college hoops has an update on him. He’s, again, like a top 10-ish recruit in the nation.
Braden Burries for 2025. 6’4 combo guard. And according to one of these services that Braden Burries has said that there are basically there are 10 schools that are in contact with him the most. San Diego State is one of those schools. He has visited San Diego State as well. Just visiting.
He was like the highest ranked recruit to ever visit the Mesa. He’s like the 10th best player, according to rankings, in the class of 2025. So something to keep an eye on. You know, you’re coming off a national championship game. You wonder what impact will it have for you in recruiting.
You felt it immediately in the portal. You land Reese Waters. And what impact will it have on them via the prep route over the next year or so? I guess we’re going to find out. What matters more? Is it making a run in the NCAA tournament or is it like collectives and NIL?
I don’t know, but we’re going to find out. I saw a tweet today about Harbaugh going back to the NFL and talking about, look, if you’re going to get like in trouble for your recruiting practices, but yet a student pulls up in a Lambo on National Intent Signing Day
I mean, like, what are we doing? I mean, are you kidding me? It’s just the, the game of college athletics and especially football. It’s a lot of work. It’s not only a lot of work, but it’s so sort of looking for it’s it feels, feels dirty. Like a lot of stuff that’s happening.
You’re like, I can’t do this, but that the players like these kids and the NIL deals and he’s in, you know, agreeing to come here and then all of a sudden the next day he’s going there and they’re like what like how am I supposed to recruit and live in this
World you know we always talk about like it’s hard sometimes with professional sports to keep track of where athletes are because with free agents and guys on one two three or deals they’re moving a lot I mean, college football and basketball in the future, it’s already there. But you look at the future
And now that they’re going to likely eliminate any type of sit out for a second transfer, you’re going to have guys. We already have it playing five years for five programs. Yeah, that’s hard to keep track of. And it’s also hard as a coach. Because it’s, oh, I recruit.
Usually you recruit a guy. He comes in. He’s there for three years. Yeah. Right. And three, four years, four years. Right. Or maybe even two years. And then now in transfers better than one, better than one. But now you’re every single college football team is going to be completely different. Every year.
Every year. Every single year. And it’s not just we talk about San Diego State a lot. Look at Alabama. They have a coaching change. Everyone’s in the portal. Yep. Washington has a coaching change. A lot of players in the portal. I don’t know what’s going to happen at Michigan.
I would assume players will end up in the portal. Also, a lot of players in Michigan came back after they lost to TCU. That’s right. To try to win a national title. Yeah. And they had the stability of Harbaugh. Right. Yeah. And Michigan’s got a large collective, obviously, to work for them.
But yeah, it’s just it’s an interesting time. You’re right. And Brian Dutcher has spoken on it. Maybe I’ll ask him tonight coming up at 6 p.m. He’ll join us for the Brian Dutcher show. Like, what is the impact here of not having to sit out for multiple time transfers? Like,
What impact is it going to have on San Diego State? Because typically the Aztecs have had those like three, four or five year players. to build their culture around. Not all of their players. A lot of the great players in the history of the program are transfers, but they’ve usually complimented transfers with
Four- and five-year players. The Matt Mitchells and the Jordan Shackles and the Lamont Butlers. Is that going to go away? Are we going to still have four-year players on the Mesa in the future? I don’t know. I don’t know. It’s, it’s a question that it’s, it’s evolving every single day in college athletics.
And you’re probably not going to see a situation where you get those four year starters, many of those, at least a lot of them. And it, And lucky for the Aztecs that the last couple years, they’ve had a lot of seniors on this team. All seriousness here, I mean, who is the quarterback
Under the most pressure here? Jackson, who doesn’t win in the postseason. That’s the narrative. Purdy, who for whatever reason is vilified nationally despite his successes. Sucks. Goff, who’s been to a Super Bowl but hasn’t won one. And of course, it’s not Mahomes. Greatest quarterback ever. It’s not Mahomes because he’s won.
And, you know, whatever. He’s going to win again, you would think, in the future. So most to prove isn’t Mahomes at this point. But the other three, maybe. Could you make an argument for all three of those guys? I would say it’s between Purdy and Lamar. Maybe if we’re taking out
All the BS talk and all the noise. Narratives. All the stupid narratives and all the, oh, Ryan Clark, the hardest thing in your life to do is talk about Brock Purdy. That would be so dumb. Like all of that stuff. The Greg Jennings of the world, right? Take away all of that.
And you’re looking at the accomplishments of Lamar Jackson. Which are crazy. Which is going to be two MVPs now. Right. I mean, at some point when you win multiple MVPs, you have to make a Super Bowl. Correct? True. Yeah. And looking at Brock Purdy’s in his second year as a quarterback.
He hasn’t even been a full-time starter for two years. Just one. Just one. Yeah. The narrative, if you’re looking at the narrative, who has the most pressure narratively wise, it’s Brock Purdy because if Brock Purdy doesn’t win, literally on Monday, he will get destroyed. Oh my gosh. Like Colin Cowherd will
Start laughing his ass off, which he actually already is. You’ll have Nick Wright saying, I told you so. I told you so. You’re going to have Ryan Clark literally like on his knees praising that he doesn’t have to talk about Brock Purdy anymore. The narrative wants Brock Purdy to lose because it’s
Easier for these guys to say, see, I told you he sucks. But for the player, if you’re Lamar and you’ve had two MVPs under your belt, you’ve got to get to a Super Bowl. That’s a good point. You win MVPs in this league, multiple, as a quarterback.
All of them have been to a Super Bowl. There’s no way. You’ve got to be to a Super Bowl at least once. By the way, this line is only getting larger. It’s now either seven or seven and a half. For who? For the Niners. Oh, really? Yeah. This spread is only…
Enlarging getting bigger it’s only getting bigger I mean it opened at six six and a half it’s now seven or seven and a half probably because debo practiced today good point good point that’s probably worth a half point or a point and and look the lions they’re very good um
They have questions up front because they’re gonna miss their left guard this game and their center like broke his ankle last game but he’s still going to play. With a broken ankle? He has a high ankle sprain and a knee sprain. But he’s still going to play. He’s one of the best centers
In the league. Defensively, their pass defense statistically has not been good. But they’re a team that I just feel… is, isn’t going to get blown out. I’d be shocked. I’d be surprised if they were blown out. I’d be shocked. Yeah. I feel like it’s going to be a close game either way.
I agree. Um, both teams are pretty similar offensively. I would say, I mean, you both have star tight ends, star wide receivers, star running backs, like running backs that are like, can do it all. Catch out of the backfield, run through the tackles. Um, good, good, Left tackle, Panay Sewell, Trent Williams,
Like pretty damn good. I mean, both of these teams on offense are pretty, you know, Aiden Hutchinson, Nick Bosa. Great pass rushers. Great pass rushers. I think the advantage for the Niners is their linebackers and their corners. But other than that, I mean, you look at, maybe you could say coaching
Just because dan campbell hasn’t been there before but you know but maybe he’s proving people right now I mean he’s won two playoff games this is great he has a great offensive coordinator that should be a head coach one day that game to me feels like it’s going to be more close than
The ravens really chiefs game yeah because you think who wins by two scores I think the ravens won by two scores I think the where they’re at right now, going up against a team who is injured. I think the Chiefs are also going to be without one of their top offensive linemen.
The receiver question all year long, I feel like is going to catch up to them now in the AFC title game. Their inability to score in the red zone has plagued them. They played great against the Bills last week, but the Bills were decimated on defense. True. I know Patrick Mahomes is amazing,
But I mean, guess what, guys? You have to have weapons. Yeah, you can’t do it all yourself. You can’t do it all yourself. Yep. So I just think that the Lions-Niners game will be close. I think the Ravens-Chiefs game could be a two-score game in favor of the Ravens. Championship Sunday.
Will Jim be here Monday? And watch I’m wrong about everything I just said. Right. Exactly. Yeah. All right. On the other side, we will get to Jim’s back page. The Brian Dutcher show is coming up at 6 p.m. If you have questions for the head coach of the Aztecs, 70470.

Brian Dutch’s show coming up in 15 minutes, 6 p.m. Head coach of the Aztecs will join us. We’ll be with you for an hour. So join us coming up in about 15 minutes. The Brian Dutch’s show right here on San Diego Sports 760. What are you doing tonight? I’ll be listening to that.
You’ll be listening on your drive home? Yeah. Okay. Do you have any questions for the head coach of the Aztecs? Just the health of Reese Waters. Yeah, that’s a good question. Health of the team. Health of the team. You can ask him the Darnay Tripp, Jaden Ledee question.
What even is the question there? Where do you think the offense goes through? Offensively, where does the offense go through the guards and not Jaden? Yeah. Or, I like that one. I would ask, where do you think Jaden Ledee offensively is his best? At the low block or at the elbow? Oh, okay.
Where’s Jaden at his best? Ask him who has the most to prove this weekend. Brock Purdy or Lamar Jackson. Did he get to catch up with Mike Schilt the other night? I would say no. Did Mike Schmilt smooch it? Did Mike Schmilt do what? What’s the word?
I don’t even know what the word is. Never mind. Schmooze? Yeah, what is it? You’re not good with S-H. Schmooze? Schmooze. Schmooze. I’m not shoulder surgery. Yeah, that was a tough one. Okay, so people, if you have questions, 70470, start with the word team. Again, 70470, start it with the word team.
All right, let’s get to this. So the headline for this story is Oreo is offering a chance to go to space with launch of new cookie. So, of course, I’m going to include that in the back page. Oreo announced on January 23rd, it’s limited edition space dunk cookies. which are a galaxy-inspired
Take on the popular cookie. That’s not all, though. Ready for this? One person will have the opportunity to take a six-hour trip to the edge of space with Oreo and Space Perspective Okay. As part of a new sweepstakes. Okay. Would you do that? Yeah, no thanks. Yeah, I’m good. You’re good.
Those who are interested in the sweepstakes can head to Oreo’s Liftoff website to enter for a chance to travel to space. Yeah, Liftoff. To travel to space in the space perspectives, Spaceship Neptune. Yeah, you know, because screw NASA and SpaceX, you know, I’m going to go into space with an Oreo. Yeah.
That sounds safe. Yeah. The people in this immersible think that sounds like a horrible idea. The Oreo cookie has a spaceship on the front of it. And the cream filling is colored pink and blue. Do you have a photo for me? Oh, looks cool. Yeah, it looks really cool.
I mean, I would eat it. Yeah, it looks cool. The cookie itself has layers of blue and pink cosmic cream. Cosmic, okay. With a marshmallow-y flavor. and popping candies that create a supernova bursting sensation with each bite. Wow. The Oreos also have a little cutout in the cookie to
Give fans a sneak peek of the cream inside. So you can see inside and see all the cream. Incredible. That is truly incredible. Look at all that cream inside that thing. Wow. Just bursting out with cream. What is wrong with you? What else do you have? You remember when I talked
About the knockoff McDonald’s? Yes, in Mexico. It was called Cosmix. Okay. Well, the Cosmix McDonald’s is actually drawing over twice the traffic of a regular restaurant. Regular McDonald’s? Regular McDonald’s. Cosmix, the drive-thru, only concept McDonald’s debut just outside of Chicago last month, saw more than double the amount of traffic than a
Typical McDonald’s. um mcdonald’s nationwide in their december 2023 wow data I would I’ve expected that no but it’s also one of those like oh this is new and exciting type of thing that’s true so yeah I mean here’s for reference ready Roughly, there’s roughly 14, 000 McDonald’s restaurants across the U.S. That’s crazy.
The average spans between 4,000 and 4, 500 square feet, blah, blah, blah. The amount of traffic was three times a McDonald’s restaurant. That’s amazing. Yeah. Yeah, that’s surprising. And there’s so many. I mean. There’s so many of the knockoffs? No, no, no. There’s so many McDonald’s out there. Like literally every corner
There’s a McDonald’s. That’s amazing. Have you been recently? McDonald’s? No. Brent, have you been recently? Yes. Okay. A lot of people have. I can only eat nuggets now because of the onion thing that they do with their burgers. Oh, wow. The text line wants to know, Jim,
Would you wear an Eagles beanie in space? no that’s very back page no I wouldn’t oh man I don’t even know if I want to go to space I don’t want to go I’m fine here yeah like the two things that I would not want to do go in the middle
Of the ocean oh gosh can you imagine in outer space like I i want to have my feet on land well outer space can be land well I guess not like if you’re on the moon I guess we I mean we fly planes over over water yeah absolutely I
Don’t fly planes but no other people some people do John, have you heard of the Home Run Inn website? No. It’s known for its pizza and restaurants reviews for pizza restaurants in the United States. They conducted a study about the most pizza-obsessed U.S. cities in 2024. Can you guess what is the
Most pizza-crazed city in the U.S.? New York or Chicago? Correct. Chicago and New York are actually, they’re on the list, number one and two, followed by Seattle, San Francisco, and coming in at number five? San Diego? San Diego. Really? San Diego came in at number five on the list for the
Most pizza crazed cities in the U.S., scoring on both overall pizza reviews and share of four-plus-star pizza restaurants. That surprises me a little bit. Top five, man. People love their pizza in San Diego. Everyone loves pizza. But I wouldn’t think San Diego would lead the way because of all of our
Eclectic food offerings. Like fish tacos. Yeah, I would think we’d lead the way with like Mexican food. Mexican food, burritos. Yeah, but sure. I mean, everyone loves pizza, but don’t they love pizza in most American cities? I mean, pizza, I think, universally is… It’s like the number one food that people buy,
Isn’t it? There’s a million pizza places. You just said 14,000 McDonald’s. How many pizza places are there in the country? There’s a million. A million pizza places. It’s not just one. It’s a million places. So, yeah, there you go. But then again, people like burgers, too. I had something for the back
Page Jim didn’t read. christian mccaffrey has sold his north carolina home that he bought for 7.5 million dollars he sold it for 12.5 million dollars it looks very nice so is he getting traded back to the panthers now no he sold it no I mean just like why why
Do you think he sold that john because he plays for the niners right so why does it matter what huh what are you talking about I don’t know why does it matter Because he sold his $7.5 million home for $12.5 million. It’s six-bedroom, seven-and-a-half baths, 12,000 square feet, 500-foot lakefront.
Want to live there? Yeah, I just don’t have $12.5 million. Want to buy it? Let’s combine our money. We still don’t have $12.5 million. Maybe we’ll defer it. True. We’ll defer all the money. We’ll pay you later. We’ll pay you in a couple years. I’ll give you a penny right now.
It looks very nice, though. I would bet it was, but it’s very nice. You’re a millionaire. All right. The Brian Dutcher show is on the other side of a break. If you have questions for the head coach, the Aztec seven zero four seven zero, start your message with team.
