Tim took the Takomo 101, 101T, 201 and 301 MB irons to our office and hit them on our trackman launch monitor to see how the numbers stack up for him.

Each iron set has KBS Tour 120 S Flex shafts in the irons so the only variables are the club heads and Tim’s swing.

In this video I’m going to be doing a comparison between the Tacomo 101 101t 2011 and 301 iron sets I’m going to be hitting them on our trackman here in the studio and showing you the numbers here’s the thing there’s a lot of different ways you can do this test

Do this comparison but today I’m keeping it simple I have the four iron 7even iron and pitching wedge from the 101s 101 T’s 2011’s and 301 MBS and all of the irons have the exact same KBS tour 120 slex shafts so they’re about as

Equal as they can get so now let me tell you how this test is actually going to work forgot the light I’m going to hit each of these golf clubs five times on the track man I’m going to get all of those numbers put them together in a

Nice chart that we can all look at together and then we’re going to talk about it and one additional thing I’m going to do at the very end is I’m going to hit my own gamer irons which are 301 CBS with a little different different

Iron shaft in them that I will tell you about I’m going to hit the 47 in pitching wedge from that set so you can see what my kind of stock numbers are as well and we can compare them to these four iron sets that I’m hitting today if you’re wondering why I’m only

Hitting the 301 MBS and not the CBS well there’s two reasons one they’re the same Lofts so as long as I hit these decent they would give you very similar numbers to what the CBS would be additionally I’m already going to be hitting a large number of iron shots so I thought I

Would save my a little bit of wear and tear and only do the mb’s for this specific test if you want to see a direct comparison between the MB and CB irons get in the comments let me know all right this is going to take a while so I’m just going

To get right into it and I will see you when I’m done all we’re going to get things started with the 1014 Iron every time I grab these irons I just want to swing as hard as I can all right I’m moving on to the 101 T4 iron all right we are moved on to the 2011’s All right I am finally moving on to the 301 MB irons um these are not forgiving I don’t know why I save this for the end when I am quite tired but here we Are I mentioned that the iron shafts that I use for my gamer irons are different than the ones that were in the rest of the sets um they are the KBS tour Seer 130 xflex shafts or as my buddies like to call them rebar um I don’t recommend

These for most people just know that that um but for me uh they actually help me with dispersion help me actually get a little more accuracy with my irons which is super Important all right I’m done and the very first takeaway is I am tired there is a lot of golf shots to hit um okay I’m going to put all the numbers on the screen now all of the averages for all of the clubs 101’s definitely the easiest to hit uh there’s something

About when you look down at those clubs I just feel like I can be really really aggressive and it’s going to be okay I don’t have not worried about the big Big M hits so I feel like I can be more aggressive with that iron set 101 T’s um

I really love how they look down at the ball now as far as specific speically for me I get this feeling like I’m going to launch them too high it’s just a mental thing for me because I tend to hit my irons high in general so um really enjoy how they feel really

Enjoyed uh hitting them and they are very forgiving 2011’s to me it’s the most slept on set of irons that we have uh love love hitting these clubs and I tend to hit them well uh so really really enjoy every time I play the 2011’s the only reason they’re not in my

Bag is because when they have the right shaft in them they actually tend to go a little bit too far and because they have a little more offset uh I tend to hit them a little more left I tend to turn the ball over more than I want now the

301 MBS um are absolute missiles when you time it up when you get good contact but I had to take out several shots with those cuz it was the last iron set that I used so I was tired and the contact was just not there um I had to kind of

Find the swing for those and after hitting 101 301s look tiny behind the golf ball um but all that to say for most golfers 101’s 101 T’s or the 2011’s are going to be fantastic and you should definitely definitely look at those sets of clubs and for most golfers the KBS

Tour either the regular Flex S Flex are going to be great options honestly you’re not going to go wrong with those for me I have just a bit above average swing speed in general um so I’ve got a couple other considerations I have to keep in mind all right so that’s it for

This video um this is the first video like this that I’ve tried to do that we’ve tried to do for you so let me know what you think let me know what specific information you would like to see from this type of video uh what comparisons you want to see what specific numbers

That you want to see and uh yeah we will try to create more content like this if this is what you enjoy as always thank you for watching and I will see you on the next one

  1. Hi Tim I received a message that I had won a set of 201's through a Alex Etches and sidekick, not been told what happens next ref; shaft-lay-length cheers.

  2. I know it's on the website, but you should put the lofts of each club on the chart as well.

  3. Nice yardages but a 100mph 7 iron! That's quicker than PGA Tour average. Us mere mortals swing a 7 closer to 80mph which would give a more realistic outcome. You swing a PW about the same speed as I do my driver!

  4. You should of done a win a set competition if you hit all the sets we win one lol!! Sweet comparion video Tim and Takomo!!🏌⛳

  5. Thanks for the side by side through the sets, Tim and Takomo. To save some wear and tear on yourself Tim you could try spacing data gathering out over the course of a week?

  6. It looks as though the 101T and 301MB have close numbers for spin rate and total/carry distance. these clubs are 2 degrees different. 32 vs 34 for the 7iron. Not sure my point but was interesting to me

  7. Love the video. Great content to aid in choosing your irons. Love my 201’s with c-taper 120 in them.

  8. I have 101 carbon since march , love this clubs.I didn’t understand this test : weird data’s , no ?.

  9. What would you compare to let's say a taylormade 770? I've been considering an upgrade in my irons this upcoming season.

  10. Would really love to see launch & descent angle info on these. I wouldn’t have expected the 201s to be slightly longer than the 101Ts. I can only assume that with the slightly higher ball speed & spin rates, the 101T must launch considerably higher than the 201s.

  11. Great video Tim, a really nice comparison of the irons and who each ones might suit.

  12. We’re the 201 the old lofts or the new lofts for this test? They were made weaker at one time. Original PW 44degree…new PW 46.

  13. Tim it would be great to see comparison videos with each set of irons, against the major brands that they are competing against if that is possible.

  14. What club head speed would you consider for stiff flex. My irons are 87mph. I have stiff flex now but would like a little more insight before buying Takomos

  15. Wow, a video such as this has been overdue on youtube. Props for the very own company to review their amazing price products.

  16. Being a Direct to consumer iron . I would love to see the performance for the average golfer how would by these . Ie 80 mph swing and reg shaft for peak height ,decent and spin rates

  17. I currently have the 101t and happy with them but have been curious about the 201 and 301CB. I am not as fast as you but similar in I tend hit my irons high and being in windy Texas can be a bad thing sometimes. Interesting you mention you feel like you’re going to hit the 101t’s to high. I would be interested in seeing the peak hight #s. I know CG location is part of it but if I remember right the 101t is 2 degrees stronger then 301CB.

  18. Great video, One small note, it would have been nice to include the lofts for each club on the comparison chart for reference. Cheers

  19. Great video. I have the 101's but thinking of adding either the 101t or 201 to my iron stable. Some thoughts on the video and things to show or discuss.
    1. Display a table of each iron with the lofts for each model and individual iron (4, 7, P).
    2. Use the track man software to show dispersion for each model/iron along with the numbers to the right. See 2nd Swing for what I mean as they do it well.
    3. Maybe having a friend with a more "normal" swing speed do the same test for comparison.
    Otherwise, great video.

  20. For me, distance is not the most important factor but consistency with distance is. I just went back to my 2006 Callway X Tour irons because my Titleist 100T's are not consistent for me on distance. I can fly a 7 iron 190 or 160….too big a difference. So for me, I would love to see two things, the standard deviation of distance and the overall dispersion. While I am "good" enough to play forged blades, I am getting older and liking the more forgiving nature of the callaways. So my goal is to loot at the Takoma 101's and the 101t's.
