The PGA TOUR continues on the West Coast this week for the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Club. For the third-straight year, this event will be played from Wednesday through Saturday. Max Homa returns this week to defend his title. Alongside winning the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa in November, Homa has not finished worse than T21 since missing the cut at the Travelers Championship last June. Xander Schauffele will also be in California this week. He’s making his ninth start in San Diego where his best finish was T2, five shots off the winner in 2021. The American claimed T10 at The Sentry and T3 last week at The American Express to start the new season. Australian Min Woo Lee will also be in California this week after closing out 2023 winning twice in his last five events worldwide, including victories in Macau and Australia. He’ll be looking to improve on the T21 he managed last week at The American Express. Others to look out for are Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay and Sungjae Im.

Long you drive it accurately you can live on top of that leaderboard yeah this is always a difficult chot here Ned wet rough ball below your feet I tell you what he’s managed it pretty well it may stay in the short cross in fact it might even get on that front

Edge yeah I would agree 100% with you B there’s more room out to the right hand side and it’s a bit more of a flatter Plateau Fe now trying to punch something back there easy now easy okay sort of putting session with instructor Boyd samah is on the green so

Let’s see if it pays dividends and it does I don’t think he’s played from the Short Grass yet as we’re standing here on the 14th T so W He Slipped usually hit it left it started straight it is drawing it’s fine right there mark y didn’t get the bounce did he

Yeah just a touch of a downhill line you could hear him say kind of chunked it there’s a good look at that setup for fenale here’s Tony F now just trying to save that face from flipping there moves it out oh right huge bounce down the car path

Fairway hit that counts back on 16 here’s Tony with that long cart path AED Drive see that is huge on 16 job Tony I just didn’t get the spinning one Tony fenale hey now [Applause] Fen really got to take advantage of these par FES all the way back there probably not more

Than a seven iron for Tony he’s hit a five iron saw the number on the club on this follow through obviously yeah all right Tony fee now with his third shot on the 17th yeah he’s going to have to navigate that slope so he’s taken most of it out

Of it which is why he didn’t run it up there by flying it that [Applause] five sneaks it in he jumps to six under what a great place it’s a great place to start I was perfect to go into the Special Forces I decided not to but I

Was what much of a college guy he’s got to carry this corner at about three bills 290 he can carry that corner and he did now it’s A1 same number you know yeah no wind it’s like it’s disappeared well it’s just kind of comes and goes Tony hold the pose here look at

This yep another good shot you see that little that little Ridge right there that’s very very difficult to get where he stands in this round of course you want to make an eagle but that putter could explode the ball off the face if you get too frisky

And just like it did there a little bit just and fenale will try to make it two holes with all three making [Applause] birdies into that stretch where you got to take advantage of the golf course Golf Course is going to give you some birdie opportunities and Tony’s split

The Middle with this t- shot you know there’s some shots out here where you got to have that discipline to just not fire at the flag this is one you got to be he needs to start this just left of Max’s ball try to hit in here for Tony hit it

10t that’s exactly what he did that’s the shot little half of a little wedge where he just gets a one hop and stop pop stroke with the toe up that [Applause] work yeah I tell you that string is right on that back cut line of this T

Box and there are no shortages of phones out get up and close get ready for the ride Tony fale taking a lash this is a high cut wind’s trying to hold it down the right side will y you got that big tree over there you got to be careful

And that is just fine actually bounces out to the Fairway comfortably easily and Tony phenow trying to grab a share of the lead as well if this long Eagle putt goes down that’s what you have to do you said that Weiss scoff made the golf course a

Little bit more difficult it used to be that it was like a par 68 for the these guys yeah wi SC actually reduced some of the bunkers but he used shot link to find the driving zones his 10th start in this tournament previous nine occasions five top 10 finishes why does this

Tournament in your game seem to match so well yeah I like it around this place I think if you hit it with some distance uh it helps around here um and speed helps hitting it out of the rough and things so um I would say just a

Combination of that and being used to pole putting on pole greens you know growing up on that so I think combination of those things have helped me here what impact has the rain from early in the week had on these golf courses and potentially altered your

Game plan yeah well it’s the golf course is super wet so you can fly everything no matter where you’re hitting it from you can fly to the hole and um you got to watch for spin you know I’ve been um pretty diligent and trying to hit half

Shots and hit the right shot to you not have the ball spin too much so um it’s paid off so far we talked on the broadcast yesterday that at the end of last year you put the clubs away for a couple of months what were you hoping to

Achieve during that downtime that might serve you well over the next rounds yeah I was just trying to get stronger um you know I had just some nagging injuries over the last couple years that I wanted to get rid of and um I know I needed to

Strengthen some areas of my lower body so that’s what I did over the last those couple months and um my speed is up so it seems to be that it’s that it’s helped well it certainly looked good the first couple of days keep it rolling on

Uh the next two nice work thanks for watching the PJ Tour on YouTube watch another video right here

  1. Tony should get rid of those sneakers and get some proper golf shoes. Leave the sneakers for off the golf course man.
