So I’m here with Shaheen got you’ve got loads of accolades in coaching haven’t you Golf Digest International Superstar I’ve been very fortunate let’s put it that way amazing golf coach on all social platforms and I’ll put all his links in the description down below so go and

Check out Shah and he’s going to tell me how to it drive properly this is the one club that I think if I could get right then I would be pretty good because this club loses me balls and we know lost bols aren’t great in golf okay so talk

Me through I guess like what is the biggest issue with your driver what is the flight issue what would you rather see and then I’ll kind of give you the breakdown of like kind of what I looked at and what I saw okay so I sent Shaheen

A couple of swings before I came over here we’re at the Callaway launch for the new AI smoke and um I would say that my driver I can have a big Mis right I’m generally towy and I’ve always struggled with angle attack on hitting up like

When I F when launch monitors first came around you got scared you got scared by the number you saw to negative do you want to Hazard to guess what it was negative I mean I’m going to assume it’s pretty bad given the context so I’m going to say like minus 4ish six yeah

It’s pretty bad and I hit it head and it what’s the best you’ve gotten into now like I have to like proper focus on it but I can get to plus fours now okay but like not exaggerating like you closed your eyes you woke up stiff and you made a swing

In the morning okay and what would be the ideal for you couple up two up yeah two up pretty standard I like to hit what kind of speeds are we talking with your driver um like out on the course probably like 116 117 then if I push 120 122 you can

Get away with a level attack angle but of course if you want that like high launch low spin bombers yeah you know the on then we definitely need to do something about it what have you seen talk to me okay I honestly you go into as much depth as I

Canever you whatever you feel like is necessary okay so have a driver in my hands because I think it’ be helpful to explain this I think that all of your issues there’s obvious the way the golf swing works is there’s always a chain reaction of events that are going to

Take place you’re going to put yourself into some pretty bad spots let’s say either at setup in some cases I think your setup is quite good and then it can spiral from either the takeaway or the top the back swing and there’s like a chain reaction of events that kind of

Come in and bad players what I’ll say that they do really poorly is not even that they necessarily put themselves in bad spots is that they don’t recover from the bad spots well yeah you have a lot more compensations because you’re a better player you have more awareness

Maybe into where the club is or what the club face looks like so you adapt to let’s say like a inefficient position yeah I don’t want to say bad I don’t want to shut on you too much uh a less efficient position throughout your golf swing and you make it work but obviously

A kind of snowballs from something that happens earlier so he was very grateful he kind of said this in the video that you sent me some swings earlier I kind of took a look at it I believe that all of your issues kind of Snowball right

Away from your back swing okay I believe that your leg work is not great oh okay yeah so I don’t know how much you’ve di you know like the one thing I realize especially when it comes to us coaches or just like any good player really is

That we get we have very biased eyes when we look at our golf swing we kind of like either want to cheat it or we’ll try to do something to make it work the reality is like when you have someone else looking at it it’s a little easier

For me to pinpoint something that maybe e you know so I think that your your leg work is not great and in my opinion it just stems from the fact that you simply don’t rotate them well enough and you don’t shift your pressure well enough on this side okay but you have an

Incredible amount of turn from your upper body in the back swing so I don’t know how much other people have ever tried this but if you’re going to create an immense amount of rotation from our upper body but we’re not going to have this I don’t even want to say the same

Amount but proportionally the right amount within our lower half yeah you’re going to build a lot of tension in your golf swing it’s normal like if you try to coil your upper body without turning it lower it’s a lot of Separation it builds tension yeah so what happens is

Because you have this incredible amount of turn from your chest your hands get quite flat in your back swing you have like a pretty rounded kind of Rory esque arm plane at the top of your back swing like it’s on the deeper side deeper just meaning like flatter and more behind you

Okay the problem is because you have so much rotation of your chest and you don’t have enough to support it with the lower half that tension that builds in you’re going to want to release it as soon as the transition starts so what I see from your golf swing and I’ll kind

Of stand here and kind of showcase it for you is when you’re going to create so much turn from your chest and you’re not going to create enough to support it with the lower half your ANS are going to get deep enough because you have this

Big turn but you’re going to build that tension you’re going to want to release it right away so what happens is in transition I’m sure anybody who has a trained eye or you’ve seen this in transition your hands kick out immensely you have this really really outward hand

Path that outward hand path is basically your chest saying holy this is a l of this is a lot of tension this is a big turn from the chest I want to release it so your chest is going to work a little bit more than it needs to at the start

Of the downswing okay the problem is when it does that the hand path is going to come with the chest turning so it’s going to kick very outward yeah now the problem is there comes a point where your hands get so far out in front of

You that if I try to keep rotating from here yeah well you mentioned at the start of this you have already attack angle issues yeah what do we know about covering the chest more what does it do to the attack angle down it’s going to

Hit more down on it you don’t want to be hitting more down on it CU you already do that too much and In fairness you probably did use to cover it more when you started getting into the launch monitor game and saw that number and said well that thanks I want to change

That so you worked on correcting it so what you start to do is your hands when they get so far out in front of you well you’re going to try to level this attack angle out and you’re going to try not to just wipe across it and then you get a

Lot of exactly what you just showed me which is yeah you’ve seen on your videos I’m sure your chest and your head stay really behind the ball and tilt a coming down into impact right yeah the problem is when your hands get really out in front of you they need to come back

Inside to make contact with the ball I can’t keep them out here and hit it yeah so what are you going to do well your chest is going to tilt back to fix the attack angle and the path problem but your hands are going to work really

Inside to try to make contact with the ball yeah so coming into impact especially from face on what you’ll see is like your head’s back but then your hands are kind of working independently inside to try to make it work yeah and that’s where the toe ball comes in from

Is the hands basically getting too far here and then having to wipe inside to try to make contact with the ball yeah if you time those two three kind of compensations up really well you’ll get the attack angle somewhat level if you don’t it’ll Trend steeper I’m sure if

Ever you’re like hey I just want to guarantee a fade get on top of it that thing can get real steep real fast I was going to say like if ever there’s a tight hole and I’m a little nervous I’ll literally aim down there and just

Go yeah but I’m sure your attack angle is like back down it’s a spinny nightmare but you can keep it in play really well exactly so how do I change it so for me the whole chain starts with the fact that this is working too much in proportion to this

Yeah so we want to create an incentive for your chest to move a certain way in the down swing that’s not just spinning out to release the tension that means you can’t have tension at the top of your back swing now you might NE necessarily feel it anymore bear in mind

Because you’ve been swinging a long time this way yeah yeah at some point your body improves it’s flexibility or Mobility to get into a certain position and you don’t necessarily feel like it’s there anymore but your swing DNA started from somewhere it started from doing

That a long time ago right I think it stem from that’s how I create power as well it’s just like a an incredible amount of upper body turning pushing pushing and things like that so because I’m not a big guy and growing up I was like proper small and trying to keep up

My makes that would all of me all the time so it was like how do I hit it hard I’m going to be embarrassed to hit a driver after you’re swinging already faster than I am and I’m taller than you what does that mean for me yeah

So okay so we need to create more turn with this without needing to overdrive the chest now early on the starting point is you just got to Master One move at a time that’s this guy okay so we just want to get this right hip much

More out of your way with a lot more turn of the lower body so your pelvis is going to feel like it’s to some degree opening up a lot more than you’re used to yeah I don’t want to say like we’re going to go crazy extreme but like if

You’ve seen a lot of long drivers what do they do really well left knee works really inside obviously their heel comes off the ground I don’t think we need to go that extreme with it but yeah left knee works really inside right hip works really far back and the right leg

Straightens a lot when they do this if you look at your video and I’ve seen it obviously from faan cuz you sent it to me right knee tends to stay a little bit more bent don’t have an incredible amount of lower body turn it’s a little bit more passive but your chest rotates

An incredible amount we don’t it’s not that we don’t want the chest turning that amount I love that your chest rotates that much but I want the hips to support it and they’re not supporting it enough in my opinion right now okay now the question is can you do

It yeah so okay let’s create some FS first for the video okay cool yeah perfect so starting point would be like this right pocket is going to want to work a lot more behind you this way so of course this knee is going to straighten some amount you’re going to

Feel a big straightening in this leg and up or just straight yes so straightening and it’ll feel like the right hip is getting taller okay but in order for the right hip to get taller this left knee needs to work more inside because it’s going to lower the left hip down so this

Goes down that one’s going to go up it’s almost like that chainsaw Theory right as you’re doing it though it’s really easy and I see some golfers fall into this trap where it’s like they’ll just OV exaggerate both of those and they’ll just lean towards the target a lot and

Not really load so you still want to feel like you’re making that chest rotation and you still want to feel like your pressure is shifting into this foot and if anything more towards the heel because you are pulling that pocket more behind you okay I can do that I know you

Can do that and you look like you’re in good enough shape to do that probably no don’t want me to talk about a down swing yet we are not going to do anything downwing related yet until we can do that okay if we do the first couple of balls really

Well your hands might even get a little deeper than you’re used to the hand path sequence and transition might not necessarily change right away because we haven’t talked anything downwing related but you’ll probably hit more up on the ball and your path will be a little bit more

Right yeah yeah that’s nice that’s got to feel way different than what you were doing you’re probably feeling a little you’re going to feel a little bit more tension kind of in that area I actually feel like when I did that it feels like I’m actually coming off my

Heill wrong or I don’t okay so don’t feel so let’s say if we were to split your foot in half don’t feel like any pressure falls to the outside half of that foot so you shouldn’t feel like your ankle’s rolling and it’s going too far I’m going like standing up okay keep

The he on he on the ground and try to have the toes feel like they’re elevating a little bit if you can you know you ever seen some people almost like put like a wedge like a wedge or something like a cut tennis ball that idea there we go that’s

Better I mean that was you tell me how did that feel is it that was pretty damn straight to me that was a laser what more can we ask from that that is a laser 17 ft of curb that Ball’s not moving very far in the air

Five yards of curb is pretty damn straight when it comes to driver let’s be honest that that’s true yeah and that actually you can see that one actually probably here that felt like that one was that one I know really wish we could show the camera how centered that strike

Was we can we can there’s got to be a way to show that these aren’t all my strikes on there because it’s the test event but it was definitely that one that was pretty CED I’m not shy of hitting over here so bear in mind hands get deeper because you’re opening up the

Pelvis more so by default you’re going to be a little bit more shallow and from the inside okay so the scientific way to think about it your swing direction is moving basically more to the right yeah if your swing direction is going to move more to the right when players get stuck

The strike location typically will shift more towards the heel in your case it takes the toe ball and it pulls it more into the center so it’s going to help you strike it more off the middle nice I’m not going to guarantee it every time but we’ll say that it’s better for the

Most part yeah just all lower body really working differently here that was a little misr that one that was a bit more this side and a high did it feel almost like a little bit more on the plane coming into it feel it felt different to the first one yeah so the

Difference here is back swing was still really good if the chest has a lot of this with the back swing being better the club’s going to be a little bit more inside so you might like push fade a few of them early in this proc you’ll see

Very few of these balls go left unless you flip the hands over really aggressively which because your tendency is to have the hands work so inside you’re not flip yeah you’re not flipping that much keep in mind and people might not necessarily know this but the more

The hands are aring inside the less flippy you’re going to be right yeah so for somebody whose hands work really inside the tendency for you when you’re more shallow it’ll just be a push out to the right it just won’t square up in time yeah okay so we’re gonna hit like

Two three more of these feels and then I’ll start to give you some small ideas for the downswing that you can apply here but yeah really feeling basically like right leg getting straight the the rule of thumb I always used to like to give people is you should almost feel

Like it’s as straight as possible without locking the knee joint so if the Le knee joint actually locks out it’s too far but you want to have it be extending as much as you can up until the barrier right before it locks out fine that’s how much I want you to pull

It back so we’re going to do two more so you’re going to feel up until the point of locking it without locking it out right pocket obviously a lot more behind you still the pressure inside the foot towards the heel a lot of rot the weirdest thing for me being more in

There so cuz I went to Steve fur longer you know Steve fur longer like Lee cck’s friend long drive and he’s like get up here and I’m like you’re standing Mega tall the problem is you got there by standing taller but your hips weren’t turning anymore you just likeo created a

Lot of this and obviously if I do that I’m going way onto my toes so obviously can I get to mind you’re coming here for some accuracy someways so the first of all I will say though the the implication that it feels very awkward to you is a good thing

Because it means you’re doing something different so that’s not necessarily a bad thing yeah that was a heel strike new yeah new I like new new is good is different yeah that was sweet that was sweet like I and that’s what I think amateur golfers are

Scared of doing that kind of thing so so here’s the biggest mistake amateurs make is that they put way too much implication on needing to hit perfect shots when we’re working through a swing change the reality is we want to see something that is different from your

Current pattern if it’s and if anything the opposite in this case you’re used to hitting it off the toe you said it that strike was very clearly off the a little bit more heal bias that implies that something had to have changed in your golf s to make it move towards the heel

Like that excites me it doesn’t worry me lots of people would see that and run back to what they used oh of course cuzz they’re saying what I can do can get me in the center yeah but you in the center one out of 10 times the other nine are still they’re going

Anywhere you know exactly and I said you couldn’t possibly miss a ball left he he it and it goes left out of strike don’t worry and a dodgy top FL oh I love it I love it that was very good yeah let’s see another going one

Here sweet dude that was money it feels like I’m like super turned and obviously we we know feel is not real so the amount in which you feel like you’re actually rotating let’s be real is probably a quarter or fraction of that in reality but it is a lot better again

There’s your money ball 17 feet of curve I mean it’s if that Ball’s not moving too far in the air it’s a good sign and it was and again a little bit on the heel there yeah which again just implies something different different down swing how hard’s this going to be

Uh I it’ll be different you know hard is subjective I don’t like to say that it’s going to be hard or easy I find back swing changes harder than downswing changes you personally me personally okay you asked me to do my back so my swing is a little similar to yours not

Too much like I get a little across the line a little inside but I shallow it a lot and I just get dumped under because I can’t get back on top of the ball I can feel like I can get back on top of

The ball but if you ask me to rear roll out the club at the top of my back swing like instead of being across being more on plane it’ll feel terrible and I can’t do it so like everybody’s very different you know you might feel like a down

Swing change is a little easier to you okay yeah how do we do it okay set up to the ball yeah so in an I do world we would probably have some form of a training a here I’m just going to preface it in advance because if I get

You to stop staying behind it so much by default that means your chest has to be rotating a little better through the ball yeah but if your chest rotates better through the ball your hand path might kick out a little bit more right yeah so what I would probably have you

Do in this situation if I had like my full setup is I would place an alignment stick somewhere as a barrier to prevent your hand path from shooting too far outward when your chest is going to be moving differently so it’s almost like you have an external Focus you want me

Turning but I want you turning but not allowing the hands to get too far out in front of you so it’s very hard for players to do two internal things differently at the same time especially ones that offset each other yeah so in this case I would have an external queue

That’s very basic just swing under the stick don’t let the hands get over the plane but having your chest go on top of it at the same time okay in this scenario we’re going to leave the whole hand path idea alone just for the purpose of this and just get the chest

Moving better with the hip turn so the two main points of focus would be I’m about to break this brand new beautiful Club the two points of focus would be obviously this being very different and then from there your typical tendency is this right shoulder just drops a lot to

Try to hit more up on it we spoke about at the beginning we’re going to be hitting more up on it because of the added back swing change the depth and the swing Direction moving to the right yeah so then from here I would just have you feeling like your chest is rotating

A little bit more over your front leg so something very basic like think about where your sternum is in space and don’t let it fall towards your right foot just feel like it’s not sliding to this side but creating some rotation towards the front side so you know the idea that you

Spoke about at the beginning of this when I just want to hit this like low bullet fade it’s kind of to some degree that idea but with the new back swing that’s how I would approach it how would you hit that low bullet fade like internalize that feel that you have to

Get there but with the back swing being different to what we’re doing now and you don’t want hands going this way in this scenario Let It Be it’s fine and you might not actually kick it out much more than you’re already doing let the hand path be alone just focus on that

Feel you have for the down swing but with obviously the back swing being a little different in this case so more this way exactly it’s going to feel like the chest and the head are turning a little bit more over the over the ball oh I didn’t do that at all

Then the joys and challenges of making changes to the golf swing and I think it cuz it’s at speed as well with a driver do you find that it’s harder for people in that respect yes but only because your intent is to try to sustain the

Speed you usually have cuz I was going to say before I said that my only worry is that when I do this feel I’m not going to swing it as fast and I personally like it’s like I don’t want to lose speed so it’s like I’m gonna

Have to work quite and here I was horribly cutting you off before and you didn’t even get to tell me this okay so the short answer is yes but that’s such a shortterm issue that you’re smart enough to know wouldn’t last long term yeah the amateur golfer yeah they’re probably going to see

Something where they’re like well if I go full speed my chest is going this way we don’t necessarily want my chest to go this way so I’m going to instinctively just swing fast again yeah it ends but this is probably why a lot of amateurs if you think about it don’t necessarily

Get better with their driver yeah is they focus way too much on I don’t just want to get better with the delivery I want to get better with with delivery while still hitting it as far instantly some people have the golden standard where they can make a swing change and

They can do it at speed and instantly hit it farther which is great you correct the slice you correct the slice and it go straight like most people will hit it better because the spin rates and so on will be better unfortunately you’re at a situation where you’re not

But bear in mind what did I say at the start of this video you master one thing at a time so if I’m you and you’re going out and playing tomorrow I’m just you’re just doing this like I wouldn’t even remotely have you thinking about anything chest related on the way down

Yeah perfect but I’ve got the weapons there to take away and to be fair the bonus here is this is probably going to build you a little bit more speed in even if you might not necessarily think it because you’re going to be using your lower body a lot more efficiently yeah

Like it one more let’s see it one more because I think I can only do the back swing he’s almost halfway there I I have to concentrate on the back sing still and I can’t get to the down sing for yet I and to be fair you

Probably wouldn’t be able to get there for the next little while yeah like cuz I’m when I’m over it I’m thinking right I need to get to here and by the time I’m here I’m like the speed wants to go the speed wants to well because the

Problem is you’re at a position where your speed comes from firing the chest out of sequence really aggressively but you’re so focused on making sure the hip turn gets bit that you can’t fire the chest that way so it’s a work in progress then work in progress but it

Comes from two separate problems that eventually are going to be Blended together but the chain starts with the back swing and specifically how the pelvis moves and how that sets that whole chain in motion like it I’ll send you some more swings oh I’m happy to

Look I will be happy to look at them for you thank you very much for your time check out um all the Social Links in the description thank you very much for your time great to meet you at last officially officially social media friends forever but he exactly yeah give him a follow

  1. Loved this. Whilst youre a pro, a hacker like me can clearly see the huge benefit in more hip rotation to then allow the torso to rotate wothout feeling like you're twisting in half 😅

  2. Cheers, really interesting video, even for this old dog that can’t learn new tricks was really good seeing pupil and teacher both good at what they do working it through.

  3. A very interesting video. Shaheen's reputation is clearly well deserved. You responded so quickly as you are a great golf athlete. Another quality content video that was a fun learning experience.

  4. Beauty of golf is different ways to slice the apple. Shauheen is awesome but I dont agree with him here. I think turning the hips like he is suggesting isn't a great way to load the system and Lockey was pivoting fairly well in the backswing. I think it's much more related to the downswing issue of the hand path moving too far out too early because of chest rotation too early in transition. The trail side bend is in there to shallow the club as a result of lead arm being too far out. Ultimately, great players match chest rotation and side bend. Usually, more rotation compared to side bend is a good recipe to be down and across. To me the solution is keeping the chest closed early transition and letting arms fall while still maintaining left side bend and then turning on the rotation. That way all you have to do is turn because you are in a better position to release it without having to side bend so much to get down to the ball

  5. The driver makes me crazy. Sometimes it just works great (do not hit it that far but straight and decent distance) and you think you know why. A few swings later it does not work, and you do not understand what you have done different. When it comes to irons I pretty much know what to do to make it work and can identify what is wrong when it does not work.

  6. So fantastic to find a coach that knows what he's talking about and can see the flaws in your swing pretty quickly. Amzing Coach Lokey that he spottd flaws in your swing and yu hit the ball a long ways. Here's to impriving your driver strikes andm by impliction, your iron strikes as well. Mark, lookout, here commes Coach Lokey with his long drives straighter and longer. Cheers.

  7. Don't quote me being as cynical or anything, but how many golf instructors does it take for the average golfer looking for help to finally get advice like this?

  8. Bruh….. Had to watch this twice. I was focused on the young lady with the short skirt in the next bay. Great video on the rewatch…lol

  9. I’m the same. I have better than average speed and distance with driver but have never been able to find the consistency. I’m at 13.5 and usually hit 3-5 errant drives a round. I think I could be high single digit if I could decrease penalty strokes.

  10. I have heard those chipped range balls they use at Top Golf are horrible for the modern metal woods and drivers because they are so hard. It's like hitting an actual rock…

  11. Great stuff Coach! The vulnerability and the chat were both insightful and relatable. I can see how putting together the puzzle together can take some time for most of us, but it’ s also encouraging to see the road map laid out!!!

  12. Interesting about the hip turn, will try this down the range this afternoon. I see your point about doing too much at once, concentrate on one change at a time. Too many changes at once confuses the hell out of me. Loved this video and looking foreward to the next muppet tour to see the difference.

  13. I love these instructions.
Really helps me think about my swing, and how I turn, transition and where my handed are.

  14. That's a big eureka moment for me!!! 🎉🎉 Thanks! Just got back from shooting 77 in the cold heavy Welsh air 😊.

  15. Really liked this video
I noticed that I was also having the same issues. Been doing core training 3 times a day for about 10 minutes each time. Really helpful for me to get everything to turn together with stronger core, stopped my over the top and helped level attack angle.

  16. Amazing how the coach could analyse so easily what was happening in the swing and then correct it. Wow – wish i could find a coach like that .
