Really been following this team number one in New York state right now now that’s all schools that’s not small that’s not big that’s all schools they are currently 12- one I believe they’re on a 10 or an 11 game win streak and Eric last week got Tim Bell on hand to

See them defeat a Powerhouse Pittsburgh team on the road 3 to one uh this team is flying high and they are in the zone yeah Steve you know listen uh I got to tell you there’s no team that plays a two on2 better than Pittsburgh and I

Love watching it cuz they do it with unbelievable chemistry you got to bring your lunch boox every time you play them that’s why they’re so good year in and year out and for this team to knock them off huge huge win for them but uh we’ll

See uh and and as as John AR is actually in the arena tonight if they are up to the task so uh this is going to be a doozy a barn burner no question about it Steve they made that track in from Victor it was no small feat last night

Got canceled coming in tonight from Leroy was uh was treacherous at best and that’s why you know Dale’s not here he couldn’t scoot across the street so to speak so um you know well Kelly does have a disability ramp which I think he could probably get up if need be that’s

Record it’s a nice rivalry and you got to get up for it and getting back to BN D Eric they are barraged with information from Sports writers uh there’s a guy did a podcast the other day talking about this team what I really love about this team right now is

They take all that in but they still show up playing like a number one team it doesn’t go to their head they’re dialed in and they’re enjoying it yep and tonight should be on full display yeah no that’s the the you know what the affection they have for each other Steve

And you know it’s it’s it’s a good locker room great kids on and off the ice had an opportunity to work with many of them in the try hockey for free I know I sound like a broken record as the teachers hit the stands now uh teachers there’s Rick rapone senior

Miss boding oh all of the ND faithful coming in so it’s a a good crew they’re very happy to be here tonight to watch this b& D B and D team and their favorite uh players who selected them as their favorite teachers uh Hey by out of curiosity see when is the parents

Who’s in The Suite we talked to Danny gar Danny gar was the coolest guy to talk to last night and I was telling Jake and Sam I’m like you don’t really appreciate this guy’s career he was a 50 goal scorer maybe one of the best captains in saber history uh very easy

To talk to he told me that his last uh year in the NHL he played one year with Edmonton and lived with Wayne Gretzky did he really yeah so Danny gar was great uh the Sabers win three nothing back-to-back shut outs who knows we’ll get it going but talking about another

Sports team in Buffalo we were going to wear our bills gar tonight we’ll probably have it on tomorrow you were there for the Pittsburgh game talk us through it a little bit what you got it was a great day to be in the stadium Steve there’s no question about it I got

To be honest it was cold but we were feeling no pain there it was uh it was excite exciting it was electric I hope not even a fraction of what it’s going to be this Sunday because we got to bring it this is our opportunity we’ll

Gold and he loves the bills as well too so he was such such a great guy to talk to you didn’t have his poster you did have Ron du’s poster but you did not have Danny gar I did I had Danny Gars I was wearing my perau jersey last night too oh that’s

Speed Johnson going to rip it right on Saved By McBride Johnson on the down low Sammy Pi’s trying to keep it in and uh Victor gets it out to Center Ice where B and D will throw it back in and B and D starting to make a quick player change

On the half wall there coming out now Victor trying to get out Motika right on rebound where is it McBride going to hang on right up the little turnover in the Victor Zone and Jameson Motika I should say the very dangerous Jameson Motika just ripped it

In mcde nice pad save and he’ll hang on for a face off and uh Brady Johnson with a few Choice words as Mark Johnson looks on glowingly oh wait there’s some coaching uh oh face off in the Victor Zone controlled by Victor taken out there now by Dylan Welden captain now

Jacob Hutchin right on and McBride little blocker save that goes up and out of play so B and D putting on the heat here early in the Victor end Divine will take that into account and let him know about that later so malov Hutchin and darcio this is the the

Two-headed monster line we’ve talked about all year long Eric uh they just they don’t have a Top Line it’s one and one a Victor trying to get it out Hutchins nice pressure malov sauce for deeso kept in at the line by Wickham but no delayed offside so Victor now with a

Lost his footing kept in there by Victor but taken behind the net by Brady Johnson going to scissor there with Bool Sammy pies trying to get it out can’t do it right on that one got blocked in front and right again Tanner save to the

Corner Boltz going to try to chip it up on the wall Sammy Pi’s trying to take it his man but kept in by Victor not of play Eric I one thing I brought up last game and all year long this B and team plays in front of their

Goenda this is what makes this team this is why they’re a big reason of why they’re the number one in the state all listen nothing better than selling out for your teammates this is a designed face off this is the stretch Motika over the line he’s got pi going to the net

Motika down low looking right out in front and that one just missed everybody and that one’s now taken back by Victor number 21 Donley gets up over the line Donley hits the B and D line B and D trying to get it out they will Motika in transition Motika finds Johnson little

Three on three lost his stick taken there by Victor in their own end they’ll try to get it out but Motika trying to be a pest and keep it in taken back there now Donley chases his man takes there by Victor they’ll get it out but taken

Again by b and d and they’ll throw it in the Victor zone no icing round the horn there taken there somebody upset about the call there Victor trying to break out can they get it out they’ll get it to Center they will there’s the stretch recovered

By Hutchins he’ll throw it back in his own end we’re taken by burer burer going to take a look gets it up on the wall there taken by Donley Donley throws it back down low and Oliver Cole brother of Simon cole right on Tanner sends that

One to the side and oh oh clutching clutch’s gonna step into his man number 18 Caleb Clark and starting to get a little physical on the wall now Burger he and his man that’s Simon cole gets it up over the line kept in by Victor right

On nice stick there by malov mov gets it back from Hutchins mov gains the line going to duck the shoulder and throws it down below the Victor goal taken there by Victor going to try to get it out high and another Aon stick up in the air

Theo going to kick it there for malov and looking they going to call a hand pass and the Victor faithful up in the crowd wanted a h slash not going to get it yeah clearly Joe diio I think that they might have heard that and says catch youan he wanted the slash call

He’s very upset about it but how about clutchin with a uh all he knows the fans are watching back home he laid one out there so uh yeah he stepped into his man and divine with just a little smile not full smile just a little crack of one

If I’m not mistaken from the 70s to the ’90s yeah uh I actually started uh 1981 I taught in Oakfield for 13 years before that oh you were at Oakfield before and then uh Tav stole me from uh from Oakfield and I was there for 27 for

Total of 40 years was your main component I know you you’ve done a few Sciences but was it mainly biology was it chemistry or was bi biology was my main and then environmental science which we started at uh at the school in the 80s and then couple chemistry

Classes when they needed me to you know to help out I never had you Eric and I uh CL uh class of 88 uh I think you had to be smart to have you you were one of the the upper science guys but I’ll tell you who did have you who’s watching

Tonight in Portland Oregon is Dave prey former ice devil and when I texted him today when I texted him today I said Dave Wickham is going to be our first intermission guest his response my favorite teacher well that he’s too kind I appreciate that um if I’m also not

Mistaken you brought in a new you were very curriculum based you were uh from what John Kirkwood told me high-end learning curriculum you introduced environmental science to bavia high I believe in ‘ 87 can you talk a little bit about that I I did we uh when I got

There uh there was no environmental program so we uh chatted about it and I and I uh got together with some people and we uh got this class going and in those days we didn’t have block scheduling so what we did was I I put

The word out for a number of kids hey you want to try some environmental they had to come in early if I’m not mistaken they had to be in they had to be in the room at 20 after 7 oh and then so they were there from 20 after 7 and then

First period started a little around 8:00 so we had a we had a double period because in those days kids could drive and so I take attendance and uh okay get your cars meet me in the circle and we drive to Burton swamp uh for for

An hour or so we go down tananda Creek and do water chemistry studies and so on we go to the county park we go to a lot of nature areas around and you know this area has an awful lot of you are totally correct on that you are absolutely spot

On with that so uh and you know I I see kids uh well they’re all kids to me you know I see them in town and and they say hey Mr work come I always remember environmental remember when so and so fell in the creek and you remember when

So so and so fell through the ice you know and stuff like that uh but U it was a it was a great course and uh we got a lot of benefit of it and the kids most importantly the kids learned I was told to ask you about a term and maybe you

Can talk us through it the term is Spud zuka what can you tell what can you tell us about Spud zuka now wait a minute you’re going to get me in trouble here well I I was told to ask you well okay so you it was a it was a potato shooter

That was made out of a PVC pipe that was uh neck down to throw a projectile you taking like a baked potato well we take we take a potato and you and you stick it in the end of the uh of the uh PVC and push it down into the uh into the

Chamber and then you take a uh uh something with oh I don’t know there was a number of different things use the aerosols and you spray the back end and quickly you screw the cap back on we had a a lighter for a grill and that thing

Would shoot a potato piece you could do some damage with that three 400 yards out out on the athletic field so uh uh that was not a good thing for me to have cuz then I turned into a kid along with the kids and uh we could have gotten a

Lot of trouble doing that could you do that today could could you do that today I’d probably lose my job yeah I was going to say times have changed yeah all right well in any event um you have a your reputation as a teacher uh Eric and I have so many great memories

Of of just going to high school here in bavia and your legacy as a teacher is off the charts but now switching to hockey you’ve been around the game aogi really a good portion of your life uh you were uh once uh the vice president of gaha you coached with the late Dave

Meyer you coached with Paul Peterson BHS your late son Richie was a day one gaha your two boys now Ryan and Jeff both play in men’s league and your grandson Noah Jeff’s son senior on this team right now playing at a very high level you’ve been around this game a long time

Uh what are your the game has changed dramatically you and I have talked about that at other times but where are you at with this program right now and the game in general well I think the program right now is uh is a as you mentioned is

A very high level program and and kids come to work every day and they take this very seriously uh and they’ve got excellent coaching and uh good support staff and everything and it shows I mean you uh right now we’re ranked number one in the state in division two uh all schools all

Of all schools and um you know uh that doesn’t get there if you don’t work hard and you don’t love to play the sport kids kid these kids you know we’ve started them since they could barely walk four years and of age and now they’re teens so they’ve got the

Knowledge and but now they they’ve fine-tuned the knowledge to think faster on the ice and make plays and be a little free willing a little chance to be creative and so on and uh this creativity and working together uh definitely shows these kids love each other they hang out with each other all

The time we were up in Glenn’s faults a couple weekends ago and you know in the hotel they’re just they’re just hanging with each other I was telling ER about that trip yeah that was awesome and uh so it it shows that these kids they like each other and that goes

A long way too that you’re playing hockey with your friends and the success comes from the knowledge and the effort that you put in the game that is uh that is great analysis uh I asked you the other day when uh Ryan and Jeff are playing against each other in men’s

League I said who are you cheering for can’t do it and Ryan and Jeff if you’re watching I know Jeff’s here his answer was I hope they both play well and I’m just thrilled to see them both out there you know it it is I I watched them play

Uh up at the police and fire tournaments up in Buffalo you know at Harbor Center and uh you know it’s it’s so nice to see uh gu well guys like you and and and Eric and and so on that when you were little kids you know in the beginner

Programs and the Squirts and and the and the midgets and so on uh you’re still involved in some way shape or form with the game today and that’s how you pass it on and that’s how you keep hockey going uh this town is a little hockey

Hot bed oh I I’m glad you said that cuz I say that too in the world of USA Hockey we are 30 miles equidistant between Buffalo and Rochester where NHL studs Patrick Kane Brian Giana uh I know I’m missing a lot of other uh ones but uh you personally if I’m not mistaken

Have roots from the French uh Quebec Province am I correct on that my mother was born in Quebec and I spent probably 16 or 18 Summers up in the gas Bay which for those of you that know your geography it’s where the St Lawrence empties into the Atlantic Ocean and I I

Uh this was summertime of course but uh first hockey game I ever saw was in uh was in the Old Montreal Forum in the in the I’m dating myself now in the 1950s yeah we were talking about that the other day before because I had an uncle

That lived in the suburb of Montreal and we’d go up and see hockey and hockey up there is it’s fabulous a religion well you love to see the the parks because every park has a hockey rank in it the the park people go out there and they

Flood the they flood an area and they keep flooding it night after night after night and uh W and behold you’ve got a you’ve got an ice surface to plan with heated warming rooms and everything I mean in every Park so uh it’s uh yeah I got my roots up in uh

From my Canadian Heritage uh you still have a pair of leather skates I’m told that Ryan wants to hang in his manave my dad had a pair of leather skates I think they were Sher Brooks and I couldn’t imagine taking a puck off of one of those skates present

Day you’d break your foot I I I’ve had that happen unfortunately and uh you don’t ever want to take your skate off because your foot’s going to blow up and you’re never going to get your get your skate back on I still have those old skates

I know where they are you know with the iron post on them and everything and uh you know kangaroo leather line I never wore a sock skating ever it was always Barefoot cuz I could you know you can feel the ice better and all and uh but yeah technology and everything has come

A long way I look at these kids sticks for hundreds of dollars and we used to get the old sherwoods and uh you know the like and uh we talking we were talking coo Northland Titan they were they were indispensable and they cost $15 yeah now they’re
