I was like man this is going to be a huge story today talk about this and how that all came together and everything and then and it is a huge story and then the Nick sain news breaks Nick Sabin retiring and then today we learned bill bich and the Patriots are parting ways

After 24 years I mean what did they wrap my head around it all um h i um first of all Sabin I think I’m assuming that most of you by now have seen my reaction I was I was live on air when the Sabin news broke they’ve turned me into a

Meme because Russ Mitchell was talking and I’m looking at my computer and I saw Chris Low’s tweet and my eyes got this big like um and I was sitting there trying to be measured and to temper my reaction because I’m on air and I’m like got to

Make sure this is right first of all it’s not a meme or it’s not a or a burner account or something like that um and you know then in my head I’m going what are you doing like react react and so I just did whatever came up into my brain and

Uh it was an emotional guttural um release so um Barry Joselyn that’s response at the 106 Mark of AFR will be the greatest thing I’ve seen since the birth of my children oh man Jason H how’s the voice today not good as you can tell um I mean I screamed for eight minutes

Um not smart for someone that um that uses their voice for a living which I always do have great respect for singers that perform every night I have no idea how they do it um I mean I talk but I don’t scream every day um um you sa Sabin leaving

Um retired there’s so many angles to this there’s you know where does Bama go next there’s um the Elation of not having to deal with Nick Sabin and Tuscaloosa anymore more um and then the other part of it which is um obviously respect and uh admiration for his career gratitude for

What he did in Baton Rouge so there’s so many layers to the Sabin story retiring um and the Bo Davis news is massive as well um you know they’re to um T Frank Bo you bring Cory in as well that along with Brad Davis Joe Sloan got a heck of a recruiting staff

And a heck of a coaching staff and when you can blend guys that are great recruiters and great teachers which yell you has a really good staff man um okay we’ll say some good mornings here Zachary Hardy Brian Penton asking will LSU honor saving yes uh they

Will in the same way that you know later in his life Paul deel came back to LSU and was honored and revered I think Nick will be as well he’ll always be remembered for Alabama there’s no doubt about it but he won a national championship at L

So he found out from us and so that reaction was his real live reaction to Nick sa retiring and he broke down on air um James mckenny morning M Logan digs Old Miss make it make sense yeah um let’s say Logan Diggs um leaving LSU is um

Um maybe it wasn’t maybe it wasn’t all Logan diggs’s um decision to leave put you that way that makes sense you know there’s a lot of um there’s usually a lot of factors that weigh into into why guys leave when they leave where they go all that stuff and and there was more

Um let’s just say that maybe maybe Logan Diggs would have been okay coming back to LSU for another year but maybe that wasn’t wasn’t an option uh and so then you’re in the portal you look for the best opportunity uh and I’ll tell you also we know Logan Diggs had a pretty

Obviously Kirby wasn’t leaving Georgia for Alabama I have interestingly enough heard Kirby NFL rumors again and I hold on before let me be clear so I’m not quote minded or taken out of context I have no idea at all what Kirby’s future is going to be at at all

I’m you know one of the things that I’m I’m kind of gunshy31 but I don’t mind telling you what I know along the way um but understanding that things evolve and change um and I think that makes sense to most of you but those of you that are

Able to push the Bo Davis thing across the Finish Line last Friday or or Saturday like after the baker news uh I think Mason Smith would have stayed CU one of the big one of the big selling points to him was was he was was going to get coached by Bo Davis and

Uh when that appeared to have fallen through on Friday I think that was what pushed him the other way um only that time I saw you be that over George and tquan Smith got cut Billy best moments in AFR history I’ve been listening to you for years

Year and I kind of always rolled my eyes my but pointed to nil transfer portal all that stuff and I think it’s a big part of it I do um uh I have also heard so to see some of yall posted about it that um God I’m going to

Be very careful here because again like some of y’all got me gunshot with the way I I love doing this show and I love hanging out with everybody every day but I’m super not okay with what transpired with the Brian Kelly Michigan stuff um with the way that that was

Portrayed and presented um without context and and incomplete without all of my qualifiers and everything but I see y a lot of y’all are posting about uh Nick’s wife Terry um and I don’t I don’t know how or where that’s that’s spreading um I have heard that that um

Maybe her health isn’t the best right now um you know uh and it was pretty she wasn’t as visible this year at games I think that was that’s fair to say you know U usually see her down on the field or you know but but I I I don’t have

Any I’ll be very clear it’s that man’s wife it’s her family I’m being very clear I’m only bringing this up because I see a lot of you posting about it um I have heard that that that maybe your health isn’t the best but I have no idea to what degree

That might have played in this decision and I’m telling you that the reason I told you that I had someone tell me all season this the beginning of the Season that Nick was going to retire after this year is because I don’t believe this is a decision he arrived at yesterday

Um and I think when you go back throughout the year and you see maybe Nick was a little friendlier with the media uh you know maybe his reactions to things on the Seline were a little different maybe you could see some um maybe there were some tea leaves now

With the benefit of hindsight you could say maybe he had arrived at this decision uh a while ago um so um I think I don’t think it was one thing either or I think the culture of college football with nil transfer portal going to a 12 team playoff next year there

Just continues to be new hurdles I don’t know that there’s ever a good time to leave you just feel when it is Nick 72 college football’s about to go through another big shift next year there’s the you know perhaps you know um their family considerations to

Whatever degree you know just um I think a lot of those things factor into decisions like we say man no matter what um coach player whatever the decision is there’s a lot of things you consider just think about your life when you’re making a decision if you’re going to

Take a job leave a job move your family there’s a lot of things to consider money where you live where the kids going to go to school do you want to be by your family do you want to leave your there’s there’s a lot of different things you

Consider and so you weigh all those pros and cons I think it was the same with Nick so like I said we’ll keep saying man um two very drastically uh opposing sides of this conversation um sheer joy and elation that this is over uh and gratitude and respect for

Side of the fence to see if the grass was greener and it was like they loved him so much but he didn’t love them back but it’s been interesting because I think over the last you know maybe 12 18 months I’ve noticed a shift in that conversation when I talk to people

Around the Old Miss program to where it feels like he has really gotten settled and is enjoying being there um I mean I will tell you I know this that he was not happy that when LSU and Florida both came open neither interviewed him

He did not he did not get a sniff from LSU of Florida and and that and that was that did not sit well with Lane um so I don’t think it’s as cut and dry that lane would just up and leave Old Miss because he’s gotten to now 11 wins going

To a 12 team playoff he feels like he can win there and especially against this schedule coming up this year he’s gotten the commitment financially for the portal and everything so I think he’s he’s settled in there but I also believe if he had an opportunity to take the Bama job he

Would take it in a millisecond no see airex have met a lot of people take your word and run with it so you need to be cautious as to what you say unfortunately I I’m always cautious that’s that’s the thing I’m always I’m aware of that I know the

Impact that my words have I’ve done this job a long time I understand which is and I understand for a long time how you handle sensitive information determines whether or not you continue to get sensitive information the problem I have is when I am cautious and I do and I am clear
