The PGA TOUR returns to the mainland this week for the 65th annual playing of The American Express. This event is the first multi-course event of the season. Justin Thomas will be teeing it up for the first time this year, his first appearance in La Quinta since finishing T7 in 2015. He’ll be looking to replicate the form which saw him claim three-straight top-fives worldwide after missing out on the FedExCup Playoffs. Scottie Scheffler will also be in California this week and has three top-25 results at The American Express in his career highlighted by a solo third in 2020. He also managed a T5 at The Sentry two weeks ago. Min Woo Lee will also like his chances this week in the Coachella Valley as he concluded 2023 as one of the hottest on the planet with a pair of wins worldwide highlighting a stretch of five-straight top-15s. Others to look out for are Xander Schauffele, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler and Will Zalatoris.

Out to the seventh his second here is’s at N9 under at this point yeah just a soft little pitch shot here from about 80 yds inside 5T movement really just sort of twists that lower body massively fast in transition take a look at this yeah it is the isn’t it Randle just perfect

On the right side slight draw I mean this is just a harbinger of things to come we’re going to see more players like this with these swings all about home runs there how good is [Applause] this the advantage of that kind of power just tantalizing look for minwu Lee yeah

After that Majestic mid iron from the Fairway great look here just a little right to left on The Stadium Course the 13th the fourth hardest minu Lee on the box this is our trackman Tracer technology with this t-shot oh uhoh well again we’re going to talk

About a little more in detail in a minute but that is his weakness pickup for minwu Lee in the water here 13 this is third for par Woody yeah took his relief slow putt up the hill but not much in it in terms of break and that’s how you do it how about

That save just a three this is the third shot for minwood Lee at the 15th what’s the play here well you need to bump something into the hill or try and carry something if a Li’s good enough or you just do that George the technical term for that would be filth holy

Moly mino’s got to love this t- shot just the looks if it likes to drive it right to left anything up the right side kicks left and that is you react that quickly to grab the te it’s always good yeah that’s his Forte isn’t it are

Going now but the another thing is these guys hit iron so far nowadays pull out iron from 258 that that used to be three-wood all day long launches it way high up in the air going at the right side of the green now cutting even further right ah perfect actually perfect Miss

Just right there handy back at 16 at the stadium just a tap in for minwoo yep there you go played that hole very very well bogy free so far my man going to ask me and is he going to be wrong and do I need to talk him into something

Here and you’re getting all those lines ready just in case so you’re not fumbling with it when he does ask you 174 plays downhill to 167 this is a big nine iron for Lee and with the bad Iron shots we’ve seen him hit this wouldn’t have been nerve free all right

Beauty thinking about that finish down the stretch yeah I mean that’s Pete die he just keeps you off balance all day long never gives you a let up M will Le such a good putter for birdie there we go birdie birdie on 16 and 17 Le bogey free 66 on this Friday what

Are your takeaways from the first two days at this event knowing you got to keep the foot on the gas come the weekend yeah um pretty solid I played I played good um didn’t have that good of control with my drives and my Approach

Play but um it was pretty like I guess a bit of grit out there um I know you know everyone’s going low so um you know if I’m in bad position hopefully you know I make make the most of it and seemed like I made the most of it the last couple

Days um and hopefully I feel good for tomorrow you’ve won all around the world how do you lean into that past success that could help you here on Saturday and Sunday yeah um yeah the two wins that I had the last couple months there were there were scores that were very low so

Um I guess when I had the lead I kept going and um yeah I mean you know when you’re playing good it’s it’s quite nice and uh if you if you drive it well out here then you can make a lot of birdies too if you H some parts so um I mean

Just keep playing playing good and keeping the same game plan as a first year member of the PJ tour how are you going to balance your schedule knowing the global routine you’ve had in the past yeah um I think our prior SI America for the first you know first

Half of the year um and then see how I go there um right now I don’t even know what I’m doing next week so or next month so um yeah I’m just seeing each week and how I go and if I play well I can get into the next events thanks for

  1. Dude can scramble! His ball striking was all over the place today, but it felt like he could get up and down from anywhere
