Love the questions I love that Brad bigs asked the question didn’t really get answered and Mark Poes followed up later and got an answer out of it but Ryan Po’s defense was great like okay I not we’re pretty happy with what we got out of this whole situation yes CJ stra

Looks like he’s pretty good but um we also got the number one pick Darnell rright DJ Moore another second rounder next year Tyreek you know a lot of things yeah Tyreek Stevenson a lot of things that they wouldn’t had if they had just selected CJ strad last year um

Now they could have traded Justin Fields then too but you know not it the process and I always say evaluate the process the process was still sound last year I think it’s a different conversation this year but I also think there’s another side to the argument that if you just want to be

Like hey look that was a quarterback the Bears could have had and now they don’t have that maybe they maybe it wasn’t the right decision so this is 1,000% hindsight I was not and I don’t think if you look back on it anybody at the time

Was saying that CJ strad was going to win the offensive Rookie of the Year and be headed into his second season as in the NFL as a chance to be a top five to eight quarterback in the game which is where he’s headed so it’s all high in

Sight but I don’t love poll’s answer as much as you do because what do you want him to say I want him to say that look there were perhaps some things that with CJ that I did not see because if I if I had known that the guy was going to be this

Good then obviously I would have drafted him because these guys don’t come around all the time now we are fortunate that we have the number one overall pick so if we want to take the best quarterback in this draft we can or we could continue to do what we’ve done which is

Build around Justin and I’m comfortable with both of those but you know hats off to CJ who if you go back and look at it CJ Stout I don’t know if this impacted the Bears at all I don’t think it did but he had a low test score on one of

Those intelligence tests basically the Wonder look he he scored an 18 Stout took the test multiple times scored the lowest of the 2023 quarterback process 18% out of 100 okay so and there was a lot of talk that that what’s the name of that test the name of the test is the 52

Cognition the S2 I’m sorry the S2 cognition the S2 so the S2 and at that point if I remember right there was a lot of people saying like this actually this test has been pretty spoton in terms of players who haven’t done well on it quarterbacks who

Specifically who have not done well on this test have not worked out it’s supposed to quote scientifically measure an athletes gamee speed cognitive abilities down to a millisecond level St took the test multiple times lowest score Red Flag to some teams I do Wonder like did the Bears red flag trout like

Wow this guy’s not smart enough to play NFL football he scored an 18 out of 100 I don’t know when that test was conducted because well was before the draft right but the Bears traded pick in early March okay well the date on this article is well the date on this article

Is draft day so it’s possible that it was taken after and I I I’m going to guess that they listen at that time they were not ready to move off of Justin they knew that the the roster was in so devoid of talent that they needed

To add on as much as they did however you would still draft the quarterback in that situation if you knew if somebody gave you a guarantee this dude is generational which CJ stoud might actually be you’re going to draft the quarterback so he could have he

Could have said like hey man we were in a position where we needed a lot of talent it was way too big of a swing for me to bet on a guy um who you know didn’t go number one overall wasn’t a consensus and I but looking at what he

Done hats off to him so where I come in on this isn’t so much at that it was a mistake I where I think it’s more relevant is the now whereas can you risk this happening two years in a row right so you are like I I’m down

With the whole idea that the process was fine that the trade was fine that passing on CJ stra was fine that it was totally understandable I think one of the things that keeps getting lost in this conversation is only having two years of Justin Field’s evaluation and

One year in your system with his rookie year basically being a complete waste of time for everybody involved it was too early to make a definitive conclusion on him another year of tape I going into now what will be year four and having having to make a fifth

Year option decision months from now is a completely different situation for me and so it’s more about okay you got a pass for last year you get a pass for passing on CJ strad if this happens again though you don’t get a pass if you keep Justin and we’re in the

Same exact spot having these same conversations about him a year from now and cayb Williams was just the Rookie of the Year and in a playoff game for a team you don’t get a pass then no you’re at all you’re going to look horrendous is what you’re going to look you passed

On the dude who’s leading the Texans who’s the youngest quarterback since Michael Vic to win a playoff game in the NFL you passed on that dude and then you know if Caleb is what people think Caleb is going to be that would be a rough look for Ryan poles you’re a spot on

Getting back to the Crux of the question on the headline of today’s show though do you trust Ryan ran poles I think it’s entirely possible that Ryan poles liked CJ Stout and still made the decision based on the entire picture to do what he did trade the pick anyway get DJ

Moore add help to the offensive line all those things were necessary so I don’t necessarily sit here A year later worried man Ryan poles can’t Scout quarterbacks because he passed on CJ Stout in fact there’s probably some evidence even if there was some luck because it’s not like they

Drafted him but they did seem to hit on Tyson bent at least as a backup sure as an undrafted free agent guys so it’s not like I have more concerns quite frankly that they they’re struggling to Draft wide receivers than than you know the quarterback position at this point is

That I mean does is that all fair well mostly but look if you had to bet on the odds right now that Caleb Williams is going to be a better quarterback than CJ strad I’ll take CJ strout that’s he might but that means that he’s insane I

Mean this guy you know he which he might be which he might be which he very well might be but that is the odds are that he isn’t so again they needed everything that they you know he was in a position of rebuilding a horrendous roster left to

Him by Ryan P so was it was a tough spot to be and it was only year two adjust all these things but if you’re like if you are the sharpest knife in the drawer then you do you know identify um the guy that is the stud and in this one

He didn’t he missed but maybe he’s but maybe he thinks that he’s been looking at Caleb this whole time but the other part about that is like look the Panthers lost a lot of tight games this year yeah they there was a huge element of luck in the Bears being in this

Position so that’s a incredible gamble yep and and I guess one that paid off if he was thinking of it that way I have a hard time believing that he was I think he was just looking to add talent and I just think that he didn’t think stoud

Was going to be this good most people didn’t you’d have to be like you know a a a savant which we don’t need him to be right now you just need to identify between May and Williams who do you like who do you like more who you betting

Your life on because if you go back to last year and maybe Bryce young would have been a whole lot better with Bobby slowick and spe specifically in Houston and and not the dysfunction of Carolina but there you go two quarterbacks one worked out and one didn’t and if you

Look at first round quarterbacks that takeen overall you know it’s about it’s a one and4 shot that they become this level or close to this level I don’t think even the Houston Texans would have thought that CJ this good this early where wasn’t he only the second quarterback to lead the

Especially if they trade Justin so the they traded the 12 of the number 33 last year all right that was jir Gibbs in Detroit that was that was Will Will Lis in Tennessee and then they traded a 2024 first round pick and a 2024 third round

Pick that’s a ton they now they got Anderson come back up from 12 yeah right yeah yeah they got Anderson they got the three overall and they got the 105th selection so a third rounder they gave up a ton to move up the reason why I’m bringing it up the
