From Sunderland star Jack Clarke to Leeds United’s Georginio Rutter, HITC Sevens takes a look at a number of footballers in the Sky Bet Championship who already appear to be capable of playing at a much higher level.

Ah the championship the stupidest league in World football a division in which everyone loses money most teams roll the dice and risk their long-term future in a desperate bid for promotion and at the end of it all three recently relegated teams got regardless because parachute payments mean that they have a budget

Two to three times the size of everyone else don’t you just love it and ironically yes I do which is convenient because it is where my CL Hall City have spent most of my life competing tasting three promotions and one relegation the championship is a brutal 46 game SLO

Which can break players who are unfamiliar with the English game but it can also provide a brilliant Launchpad for players to go on to bigger and better things almost everyone in gareth’s South Gates England squad from Jordan pford through to Harry Kane has some experience playing in the

Championship and it is where the likes of Jon stones and Jude Bellingham two of England’s most important players began their careers that is to say nothing of non-english players like Ruben Nez Dogo jot Tim Cahill or Gareth Bale I would bet my life savings that at least five

Current Championship players will go on to Wing caps for England and that at least one of them will be nominated for the Balon door that’s right I’m so confident in that that I’d be willing to put £70 on the line so who are are they well in today’s video I’m going to pick

Out seven players who I think are too good for the championship and are destined to play at a much higher level with only one caveat I am going to be limiting myself to a maximum of one player per Club given that pretty much Leicester City’s entire starting 11 is

Far too good for the championship and I just think that it’s more interesting that way I also won’t be including any loone players sorry Fabio carvio just as a bonus at the the end I have actually made this video twice in the past about players who I think are too good for the

Championship once in May 2020 so almost 4 years ago and once in March 2022 so roughly 2 years ago and I thought that it might be fun to take a quick look back at the players who featured on those two occasions to see whether I was

Right about them and they’ve gone on to much bigger and better things or whether I was wrong and they’re now languishing in lead 2 before that though here are in my view and in my view only with a maximum of one player per Club seven players who are simply too good for the

Championship right now seventh Sammy smodic a man with an unfortunate set of initials but I am told absolutely no Nazi leanings Samy smodic is the oldest player in this seven by at least a couple of years and that is slightly depressing for me to say because I will turn the same age as

Him at the end of this month you know lesser Mortals would be beginning to think that maybe their hopes of making it as a professional footballer were over but not me it’s quite remarkable given the manner in which he has performed this season that Samy smodic

Hasn’t won a single cap for the Republic of Ireland at the age of 28 smodic has been called up twice by Ireland but he’s never got on the pitch and now there are rumors that Hungary who smodic is also eligible to represent through a different grandparents maybe planning to

Poach him ahead of Euro 2000 24 with Ireland having failed to qualify for the tournament and Hungary more than capable of getting out of group a up against Germany Scotland and Switzerland one would imagine that would be a tough invite to turn down why smodic has caught the eye of hungary’s excellent

Italian head coach Marco Rossi is pretty obvious one of the outstanding players in the second TI of English football this season smodic currently leads the championship scoring charts with 16 goals in 25 games factoring his hat-trick in the FA Cup and a cameo in the efl cup in which he fail to score

Against Cardiff and smodic has scored 19 goals in 27 games in all competitions this season averaging a goal once every 122 minutes that’s incredible output especially given that smodic doesn’t play as a nine but as a 10 typically just off Sam Gallagher or more recently SEI talovich industrious inventive and

So varied in terms of his finishes this season typically I would be reluctant to include someone like smodic in a seven of this silk based upon the fact that age 28 neither of his two previous Seasons at Championship level were anywhere near as prolific or as impressive as this one and he could

Therefore just be in a very Purple Patch of form I loathe to use the term but a one season wonder you might even say having watched him at least five times this season though including live I just don’t get that impression of course he is coursing with confidence but I also

Think that he’s very talented and so by the narrowest of margins ahead of several honorable mentions that I’ll discuss later on it’s the Blackburn Rovers man who gets us started and you have to imagine that Blackburn would be in real trouble this season without him sixth Gabrielle Sarah for the second

Successive campaign Norwich City of underwhelm this season whenever Norwich are in the championship they are expected to compete at the top end of the division but they slumped to a 13th Place finish last season and it would be no great surprise if they ended up in similar territory when this season

Finishes as well for all of the Doom and Gloom though the canaries are blessed with two genuinely outstanding players by Championship standards one of them is Jonathan row who is still only 20 years old and may have the highest ceiling out of the two of them and the other is

Gabrielle Sarah both are destined for the Premier League almost certainly in the summer transfer window at which point Norwich will have to very wisely reinvest those funds or risk falling even further down the table but for now they’re Championship players and we’ll focus on the positives either could have

Featured in this seven but four years Rose senior I think Sarah is the standout candidate at this moment in time signed directly from sou Paulo in the summer of 2022 following norwich’s relegation from the Premier League for A6 million transfer Fe Sarahs isn’t a quintessentially Brazilian midfielder within the English psyche technically

Sound but not outstanding and rarely overly elaborate his biggest strengths lie in terms of his in-game intelligence athleticism and weight of pass aoeing in any Championship 11 in central Midfield Sarah is the Beating Heart of a subpar Norwich City team and everything about the way in which he plays the game

Suggests that he will have no problem succeeding at a higher level as one could even argue in light of his two seasons at sou Paulo he already has if I was the chief Scout or sporting director of any bottom half Premier League team or even Newcastle I’d be keeping a very

Close eye on him fifth Jack Clark on sheer Talent there aren’t many championship players who can compete with Jack Clark even at the three relegated clubs it feels like Clark has been around for a while now having enjoyed his breakout campaign at leads United 5 years ago but he only recently

Turned 23 Clark’s teenage promise was such that following his debut campaign at Elm Road Tottenham signed him for in excess of 10 million Clark never played a single minute of Premier League football for Spurs and just 95 minutes at all competitions going out on loan to leads QPR Stoke and eventually

Sunderland after helping the black cats to promotion from League one Sunderland May Clark the their Marquee signing back in the championship reportedly for a fee of just £750,000 that now looks like one of the bargains of the century Clark scored 11 goals and made 14 assists as Sunland reached the

Championship playoffs last season and this season he has proven to be even deadlier in front of goal it’s worth noting that Clark’s creative output has dropped off a little he has only made two assists this season but 13 goals is the fourth highest figure in in the championship despite the fact that he

Plays on the Left Flank a class above every other player in the sundland squad Clark is quick he has great feet and his right foot is capable of both finding the back of the net and whipping a Sumptuous ball into the box with equal appla and without him there’s not a

Chance in hell that Sunderland would be in playoff contention this season Clark’s game still has deficiencies don’t get me wrong he’s weak allergic to defending and his tendency to drift in and out of games may cause him headaches at some Premier League clubs but in moments he’s as good as almost anyone in

This division the Premier League beckons whether that’s with Sunderland or someone else fourth Carle Walker Peters it was inevitable that one player each from the three relegated clubs was going to feature in this seven and none of them were straightforward decisions the most obvious candidate at Southampton is

Paps Adam Armstrong who has a mightly impressive 25 goal contribution in 27 games so far this season and if Lone players weren’t ineligible 21-year-old Taylor Harwood Bellis would have to be in with a shout ultimately though I think Kyle Walker Peters is a premier league fullback and a good Premier

League fullback at that in all but name indeed the Southampton man has already played well over 100 games in the Premier League for the Saints and previously his Boyhood Club Spurs where he was touted as a potential successor to a famous fullback with a very similar name in the end Walker Peters joined

Southampton for1 million to get more game time and Tino leave rento’s sale last summer after Southampton were relegated ensured that he has continued to get it a quick tireless and attack-minded fullback who is almost as comfortable at left back as he is at right back walker Peters is defensively

Capable and a menace when he bombs forward still only 26 he has chipped in with a couple of goals and a couple of assists from right back so far this season in a Southampton team that is currently on an 18 game unbeaten run breathing down it switches neck in the

Hunt for automatic promotion Walker Peters has been a big part of that I think that he is Comfortably one of the two best fullbacks in the division and good value for a spot in fourth third K and juy Hall the Leicester City squad looks like a premier league Squad cost

As much as a premier league Squad and is being paid paid like a premier league Squad it is Little Wonder therefore that they are performing like a premier league Squad in the championship sitting pretty at the top of the table with a 10-point cushion on Southampton in third

That to Leicester City player should feature in this seven was a formality then but which one that was a much trickier decision just to jog your memory if you don’t follow the championship Lester have Yanick vestard and v f at Center back Ricardo Pereira and James Justin at fullback Harry winks

And Wilfred and Dei in Midfield and the likes of Jamie vardy patson daa and klei and ater up front it is an embarrassment of riches but their standout performer this season in my view who is still only 25 years old has been Kier and jewsbury Hall on the one hand you could argue

That jewsbury Hall has already had two seasons of regular first team football in the Premier League in which he only made Seven goal contributions in 59 games so by that l logic how can you say that he’s too good for the championship it’s an argument that I’ve seen made on

The other hand I suppose it is just worth emphasizing that jewsbury Hall plays in Midfield so the numbers that he is putting up this season are the anomaly rather than his time in the Premier League having been particularly underwhelming especially for a young player allowed to flourish in James

Madison’s absence becoming the foxes star man this season jewsbury Hall has become almost talismanic he has scored nine goals and made nine assists in 26 games in the championship averaging a goal contribution every 120 minutes from Central or attacking Midfield the reality is that jewsbury Hall looked too

Good for the championship on loan at Lon Town 3 years ago he looks much too good for the championship now and he and Leicester won’t be in the championship next season second georginia routa leads United are doing well this season currently fourth in the championship and virtually guaranteed now of at least a

Playoff place but I actually think that when you look at the star power by Championship standards and the individual talents of some of their players arguably it would constitute a failure if they missed out on automatic promotion not the leads fans will care if they manage to win the playoffs of

Course for my money there are three standout players at leads cresencio Somerville Ethan ampadu and georgino Ruta and all three of them are capable of playing and indeed have played in the Premier League any could have featured and I think Seville has actually been lead his standout player this season

Which is reflected both in his output he has scored 12 goals and made Seven assists and the number of man ofth match awards that he has won 11 which is the most of any player in the division nonetheless I’ve picked georgino routa because I think he’s better at football

Is that a simple enough explanation probably don’t need to add much to that In fairness routa really ought to be too good for the championship given that leads signed him for a club record breaking £3 36 million from hoffenheim which is more than most championship squads cost to assemble the decision to

Spend quite so much of their budget midseason on someone so young backfired for leads last season as routa failed to score and made only one assist and leads were relegated in the championship though with more time to set in away from the pressure of a relegation dog

Fight and of course up against weaker opposition roor has proven his class gifted skillful and Incredibly creative all rout really lacks his a bit of composure and Cutting Edge in the final third that’s why he has only scored four goals this season as well as making nine

Assists but he still stood out in most of lead his games and if he can add the finishing touches still aged only 21 he should have a really bright future in the game zero honorable mentions a lot of my short list for this seven was just narrowing down players

From one Club so the likes of ether ameru cresencio sumerville Harry Winks Ricardo perea patson Daka klei inacho and Adam Armstrong all earn very honorable mentions meanwhile elsewhere I think Cardiff City’s Perry and G whole City’s Jacob Greaves and Plymouth our GS Morgan Whitaker are all capable of

Playing at a higher level the most notable emission or emissions and this carries a hint as the top spot is the absence of any IP switch Town players despite the fact that the tractor boys are Flying high in the automatic promotion places I could understand some disagreements with that but personally I

Think it just speaks volumes about the fact that IP switch are a team in which the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts Sam morsy Connor chaplain and perhaps most notably Leaf Davis all made my short list it should be said but each

On their own I don’t think that they are better individuals than any of the seven who feature or any more obviously too good for the championship which is an enormous credit to the job that Kieran McKenna has done and now for top spot which I imagine will cause a fair bit of

Outrage in the comments but I’m confident that barring any disasters it will age as well as Jeff Bridges first Jaden figing I know I know he plays for Hall City you support Hall City you have therefore put a player who plays for Hall City top of a list of

Seven players who are too good for the championship while supporting Hall City you are ludicrously biased and should be shot in the head I am way ahead of you the reality is that Jaden ferene playing for Hall City actually made me less likely to put him top because I know

What people will say in the comments and just just putting him fifth or something would save me a lot of hassle I don’t think that he should be fifth though I think that he deserves to be first so that’s where I’ve put him the only other

Time that I’ve said Hall City had the best player in the championship was Jared Bowen along with eberet ch at the time and I was also told that that was my black and Amber tinted spectacles he wouldn’t make it in the Premier League etc etc but you know so far so uh not

True Bowen is a full England International one of the most productive wide players in the Premier League and he scored the winning goal last season for West Ham in a European final and yet I would say with some confidence in fact that Jaden fene ceiling is considerably

Higher than even Bowen’s and indeed I think he has the potential to be the best player who has played for Hall City during my lifetime it is just a shame that he’ll probably leave in the summer or at best we might get one more season

Out of him signed in the summer for five million from Aston Villa unai Emory told philene that he was part of his first team plans after he starting Villa’s preseason tour of the United States but that he was unlikely to start games following the arrival of Musa diab

Rotation wasn’t part of filin’s plans age 21 and having played regular first team football on loan at Cardiff City last season so he effectively forced Villa’s hand I had high hopes for ferene having watched him star a Cardiff against us but nothing could quite have prepared me for the speed of his feet

And mind the effortlessness with which he beats players and his healthy dose of end products as a bonus before getting injured in early December ferene had made 11 goal contributions in his last 10 games from the Left Flank making him the most productive player in the division and it’s no surprise that Hall

City’s form has fallen off a cliff while he has been out of the team look I don’t want to delve into Hyperbole and there are so many variables into terms of attitude application injuries and sheer fortune or Misfortune when it comes to young players but ferene should at a

Minimum play for England and if everything falls into place he is capable of doing almost anything within the game phene has spoken about his own ambition being to win the Balon door and whilst I’m not going to go that far just yet because this will get cliped he is

The only whole city player I’ve ever seen who is capable of it and I think that he is the most gifted player in the championship so those are my seven but I promised you in the introduction that I would revisit my 2020 and 2022 less from

Four and two years ago so you can either do your caps to my incredible scouting abilities and footballing wisdom or mock andde me writing off my most recent seven as the inan ramblings of a Madman as well in May 2020 my seven players who are or were

Too good for the championship were B Benjamin white who now plays for Arsenal olle Watkins now of Aston Villa Calvin Phillips who doesn’t really play for anyone but is contracted to Manchester City Alexander mitrovic who scored 15 goals in 28 games of Fulham last season but now plays for alhilal in Saudi

Arabia Matas Pereira who somewhat unusually is also contracted to Al Halal but is currently on loan with cruo in Brazil s Ben Rama who is now in his fourth season at West Ham and in top spot eberet CH who is still one of the best players that I’ve ever seen in the

Championship and now plays for Crystal Palace where I would argue he is still a standout player and will likely end up joining a rich seven Club at some stage in March 2022 my selections were Jed Spence who just joined Gena on loan from Tottenham bournemouth’s Mark Travis Liverpool’s

Fabio carvio who recently joined H City on loan I know I can’t believe it either Harry Sutter who now plays for Leicester city Fulham star Harry Wilson and in top spot featuring for a second time Alexander mitrovich in 2020 I mean let’s just be frank about it

I smashed it faultless 10 out of 10 in 2022 Spencer sort of CED to the bed a bit following his move to Spurs Travis has been usurped as number one at Bournemouth and car hasn’t become a regular at Liverpool but I still think he has a huge future some of the

Honorable mentions notably Morgan Gibbs white Dominic San and Brennan Johnson have probably done better than those three so you know a bit more of a mixed bag than 20120 that is it for today’s video though thank you all very much as of for watching hit the like button if you

  1. The logic thing with KDH is stupid he’s been an 8 when we were in prem? Want him to get a million goal contributions? And in his first season in the prem he got Leicesters player of the season and was one of the most consistent players in the league

  2. not including yaser asprilla from Watford is criminal, the most flair player in the entire league

  3. Good to see Sammie Szmodics getting a mention! Col U through and through and one of the best I've ever seen for the U's.

  4. Fabio is an entitled brat, who rejected the under21 call to the Portugal NT and now he won't be invited to the Portuguese team or the English team. He acted like an entitled diva in Liverpool, was a flop in Leipzig and now he even looks quite unfit.

  5. Respect for Jaden Philogene for wanting first team football instead of sitting on villa's bench, he always looked like he was heading towards playing at the top level, I've seen nothing in his spells out on loan, and now at hull to suggest that opinion is wrong.

  6. You must not watch the championship. Summerville is the best player in the league and Philogene was unbelievably average against Leeds.

  7. Feel that Van Ewijk, Sheaf, O'Hare or Sakamoto from Coventry could all be on this list. And I think it might have been better to not include the relegated sides at as it would be more interesting to be looking at players who weren't in the Prem last season. Great video either way

  8. As a Stokie I'm chuffed that Wouter Burger appears to be flying under most peoples radar. He's the best we've had since relegation, which admittedly is a low bar. We need to keep hold of him whoch could prove difficult

  9. Im not watching the video but once the cheaters man city are relegated there will be pkwnty more players for the list

  10. Alfie – would love to hear you talk about the history of international B teams i.e. the England B team the likes of Matt Le Tissier and Paul Merson turned out for. Cheers

  11. Philogene is unreal – as a Villa fan, I hope we use that buyback clause…£5m was a snip for you guys. I actually wonder whether FFP was something of a reasoning for the sale. Glad he's getting the playing time that he deserves though

  12. Love how bias this is, No Hayden Hackney? I guess all the clubs including Spurs, Man United, Man City, Liverpool and more that want to sign him. Must be wrong 😂😂

  13. do you think about nazis constantly? what has to be going through someones brain to hear a name and think about nazis? is hitler in the room with you right now?

  14. Just pointing out to this fool Andy Robinson who’s won everything in club football as a world class left back played for hull fool and they have never had a player like him. Just a bit embarrassing lad

  15. As a Villa fan, I'm dying for us to buy Philogene back. I saw him in person in the preseason in America and other fans sitting around me were asking who he was and remarked that he was "electric". Indeed he was. I doubt we'll get him back but I'm glad to see how well he's done for you this season
