Good morning I’m Tom and I promised myself this year after years of grinding the PGA DFS streets that I would um start making some content on my own and see how that went this mostly is going to be an exercise for myself to sort of talk this over but hopefully someone
Finds value out there uh maybe even build a little Community I’d love to talk to people about DFS um so what this is going to be just going to jump right in looking at the uh real briefly at the course and then the players uh in the
Future this will be hopefully a lot more streamlined and thought out but I told myself I would start this at the uh Sony Open and we’re now the day before the Sony Open so if I don’t do it it’s going to be another year so let’s get right
Into this uh this is the Sony Open this is one of those tournaments where the course history truthers point to as of course history mattering a lot you see a lot of repeat um people in the top of this field every year the reasons for this um different people have different
Theories the one that I’ve heard that I’ll go with is that the people that do well here are the ones that were either their offseason prep just got them ready or they’ve been practicing and so you see the same people kind of bubble up to the top because they’re the most
Informed which goes hand inand with why the people who play at the century tend to do well at this tournament because they’ve at least picked up a club some golfers they go months without playing other golfers are still grinding uh their usual schedule so anyway don’t be
Afraid to look a little at the course history but don’t let it be you know completely shackle you if you did that last year you missed out on seiw Kim uh winning he set up perfectly for this course and he won uh despite the fact
That he had not um I don’t believe he played it before so this year for uh DFS we’re looking at a pretty um interesting group at the top there’s only four guys 10,000 and above we have uh oberg Hatton Fitzpatrick and theala and you know going back to course
History the only one who’s played this in the past five years I believe at all is H theala he had a 48th back in 2022 um of these I’d say my favorite is probably Hatton he loves himself in Easy course this isn’t the kind of place that’s going to sort of frustrate him
Send into a tail spin if the wind kicks up a bit he’s you know at least in my mind he’s usually a pretty decent wind player you don’t have to be super accurate off the te um he can get super hot with the putter but again with DFS a lot of the
Times we end up with pretty big group think and at least the top three oberg hat and Fitzpatrick very similar odds to win this so can’t really argue with going with anyone um you know if you get into the ownership weeds and you find Fitzpatrick is significantly lower owned
Than the other two he’s just as good a good a golfer um so I you know I have no problem with any of them my personal favorite is Hatton but I couldn’t fault you for going elsewhere um all four of these played at the sentury last week
The gala was fantastic um he’ll probably be the lowest owned I would guess of this group um but you know cuz he’s a little more Wayward off the te which can get you into more trouble here than at centry but honestly you have to be pretty wild off the tea to run into
Problems um you know we remember Mark Lehman he’s historically been good here you know he’s often live um but he could really spray it and he had some really good finishers at this event so I wouldn’t be too afraid of theala if he’s your guy couldn’t fault you for going
There now moving into the 9k range this you know this is a pretty interesting stacked area you know we range from Brian Harmon our our reigning open champ down to hii who was you know for a long time the sort of hor horse horse course I won’t use that phrase again for this
Um event plays it pretty much every year again it looks like um a lot of people all you hear now is Cory Connors Cory Connor is going to be very popular this week his course history is fantastic um he looks like you know a a lot of content people say good chalk bad
Chalk you know I feel like a lot of that is in in retrospect you know if the chalk hits It’s good chalk if the chalk doesn’t hit it’s bad chalk um but you know he’s played this past five years hasn’t you know in those years he hasn’t
Finished worse in 12 um played at the century you know again going back to the people that played last week it’s more important that you played last week than how you finished so he got a 33rd but uh you know not too worried about that uh considering his of course history his
Form otherwise he had a you know he played a little in the swing season I believe he played at the RSM don’t think he did particularly well but he’s at least been active and he’s so good at this course um he’s going to be popular I personally will likely will be playing
Him um because I tend to fall a little more on the course history truther side than some other people out there who say it just doesn’t matter and place like this I’ll lean into it a little more um you know again can’t fault you for picking any of these guys you know
All of them with the exception of Wills allures have played here before um Eric Co last year he made the cut don’t didn’t do anything but he’s been on absolute fire he’s a new golfer um so you can’t really look at his stuff from Beyond last year too much because he he
Is just at this point it’s not just good form he just appears to be a really good player um you know 9700 though for me that is a lot to pay for Eric Cole um you know looking at the numbers he’s earned it but objectively if you can
Tell me that I can play Russell Henley for $100 cheaper a guy you know has great upside uh someone who’s finished second here um you know very good on these Coastal tracks it’s going to be hard for me to get to Eric Cole but couldn’t fault you if you did the one
Guy I don’t really like here is Will zat torus um you know he’s he’s been dealing with the back injury and now you know he’s had surgery months and months ago so he’s he’s passed that but he you know watching him and again I’m not the
Biggest you know ey test guy but his swing doesn’t seem quite right he’s never played here before he’s still 9300 if he was in the 8ks you know I might have some interest there but you tell me you know Dey he’s going to be very he’s
Not going to be popular he’s at 9,000 he’s crushed year he won back in 2002 I would just rather if I’m going to take a guy who’s a little bit of a risk and Dei is always a wd or just mental checkout risk I would rather go that
Direction personally um so yeah my favorites in this range Connor’s Henley Harmon um JT Poston he’s had some good finishes here he’s had some bad finishes here was great at the century always can get nuclear hot with the putter um I think he might be a little popular
Though I would rather play Dei than Poston if I was going to pick between the two um but again all these guys are capable of winning can’t fault you for taking any of them um if you have a guy you like in this range you know I’d say
You go with them uh the 8K range is interesting because there’s no one above 8,700 and that’s Ben on uh you know Benny on great week last week uh he’s finished 12th here back in 20123 um in his first appearance he’s really rounding you know into a more
Complete player he had some struggles but he’s he seems to be back um like Benny on SEI wo again won last year um you know always a little terrifying with the putter um because he can just go ice cold but obviously you know he won here last year so he’s
Clearly has some comfort um this is going to really in my opinion this is going to be the range that kind of makes or breaks you um because it seems like one you know a couple these guys are really going to go to the top my personal favorite Justin Rose he hasn’t
Played here in a long time I believe he finished third in it was 2018 um but he’s you know former number one player in the world down here at 8200 um had a scorching hot round on Sunday uh played well at the hero you know this is 8200 feels you know
Somewhat disrespectfully low he can go pretty cold with the putter he can be a little Wayward off the te but not anything that’s going to get him in too horrendous of a trouble um at this course I don’t think he’s going to come in very high owned I love Justin Ros at
8200 he’s actually probably going to be my one andone one of my favorite players this week um other notables I would have interest in are you know benan sewu Cam Davis you know Cam Davis disappointed a lot of people at the century so I think that’s going to help keep his ownership lower
Um but you know he has great courts history here I I say great but you know he’s got a top 10 he’s made the cut the you know in this past four years playing here um you know he’s he’s a guy that just at his at easy course can really
Tear it up uh so I wouldn’t fault you for going to Cam Davis I don’t know if that’s where I’m going to go I definitely have interest in Justin Rose um I think Keegan Bradley at 8K is way too cheap if Keegan Bradley was priced
At 8500 instead of 8K I I would wouldn’t have thought that was odd um has a little bit of a mixed bag here alternating 12th places and missed cuts the past four years um nothing special at the century but you know you’re talking about a guy who can just get so hot with
His approach It’s usually the putter um you know can kind of let him down he is capable of having just massive meltdown rounds but if you’re trying to win a gpp you know the difference between a guy grinding out a made cut for 55th and missing the cut you’re you know you’re
Just you’re not going to get there so you want those guys with the upside I think Bradley has it I like Bradley um the 9k range is absolutely enormous um and again this you know a lot of the time feels like feels maker Breaky I mean every you
Know you’re making a a six six golfer parlay to you know make the cut and finish in the top 20 30 for trying to win a gpp so you obviously have to get everything right um but this is so big and and a lot of these guys it’s it’s
Sort of picking what skill set you like the most um you know Matt coocher drawing a lot of interest because he has such great form here he’s was a lot better last year than the year before if I remember um batia was fantastic last week until the last round in which you
Know maybe the pressure got to him he was in that final group and he absolutely imploded um you know loves his loves his Coastal courses anytime you see something that’s on the coast you got to keep ba batia in mind um not sure that I’ll go there uh I I always do
Worry when guys are in contention and then they fall apart but he’s so young I don’t I don’t think that’s going to bother him um it’s not like he’s you know going to be his only chance in his career to to spike one of these he’s got
A long career ahead of him great player um I do not mind going there Brendan Todd is definitely gaining some steam people love mentioning the Paul Tori on the bag you know people for some players caddies make a big difference other players don’t um BR Todd looked like he
Was going to top 10 the century after two rounds and then you know it kind of fell apart on him so you know he’s the kind of guy in the mold of a mat like a bit of a younger mat coocher you know not very long but super accurate off the
Tea and you know can get super hot with his putter uh so like don’t mind going there um for me my favorite player and unfortunately coming in at the higher ownership is Andrew putam played last week great course history here plays this course every year in super hot form
Um shorter hitter but very accurate uh can get super hot with his approach as familiar ity with with this course I you know a lot of times people tell you oh we’ll play this player at you know four times less ownership like your Milano Grio is you know probably going to be at
Least half probably onethird the ownership of putam but you know what I don’t like a Milano Grio and if I’m playing one lineup you know I’ll just I’ll eat the chalk there with puam and and you know let other people play those one two% guys unless there’s someone
There I really like you know if you really like Rio this is just a bonus to me I think you got to pick the players you like um unless it’s ownership’s getting truly egregious and I don’t think it is it’s not like putham is some huge misprice he’s just kind of popular
So you know it’s not like this is should have been a 9k golfer in which case you’re going to see some crazy ownership he’s just a good value at 7500 he’s someone people are comfortable playing and and uh you know I like I like him in
The lineup I think he’s going to do well so I’m going to roster him uh tons of other guys in the 7K range um ABDC I’m not going to try to pronounce his name you know super hot corn fairy grad he’s projecting low but I could people people
Always like the young European player that’s kind of an unknown um you know tore it up on the uh on the corn fairy tour um he’s a guy to keep an eye on I don’t think I’m going to get to him this week um other interesting names you Nick t down at
7200 uh great course history here uh has played well at some you know other similar events uh $7,100 Nick Hardy Taylor Montgomery I like both those guys a lot um you know I I I think down here it’s really take your pick could I fault you for taking
Taylor pendra no guy’s a great player he’s a President’s Cup player and he’s uh you know just a great golf for 7200 would you rather take $7,200 Vincent Norman you know a guy hits at a mile um he’s one events he’s a good player he’s
Going to be less than 5% own uh do I like him this week myself he’s not my pick but I don’t think he’s bad so again you know you got to take your guys down here um if you want a guy who could get really hot with his approach might not
Not show up in all the numbers Alexander Bor super hot on the European tour last year uh I don’t think he closed the season extremely strong but you know if he uh if he spiked this week wouldn’t be surprised um and then down in the 6K range I I
Can’t see myself getting down too low this week a few notables um Vincent wayy interesting player had a very good swing season finished 17th year in 2022 um Bobby Mack you know he he’s a guy that if you want to say kind of maybe a misprice 6900 this is a good
Golfer uh definitely better than that price I would definitely rather roster him than you know Ryan Palmer at the same price or I just think he’s a better golfer than that or KH Lee um I would I would rather give Bobby Mack a shot I don’t think this is necessarily the best
Course for him he’s he’s pretty long um I don’t know if this is the best place for him I think he’s a little better with his longer irons um if this is really like a short wedge Fest I don’t think that’s where he’s going to do well
But but again the talent is there great player um a few other guys that are getting some interest I see I’ve seen some interest in Hayden Buckley I think that’s just pure course history I don’t think that’s where you want to go um you know I I don’t think you really need to
Get too deep into the we weeds in the in the 6K range some of these guys are going to get through the cut but are they going to spike enough to help you win a gpp like you know I’ve seen I’ve seen a little mention of like lonto at
6200 is is lonto g to get in the top 30 I I don’t see it um and if he does you’re still not guaranteed to win anything uh so yeah that sort of takes us through it um again favorite plays at the top Terell Hatton really like that
But again can’t fault you for get going for any of the other guys uh Harmon Connors Henley and then probably Matsu uh in the 8K range Rose favorite play and then uh sort of Keegan Bradley great player Benny ANUK Kim like those names and going back to Cam Davis you know
He’s he’s a guy I definitely want to take a closer look at um in the sevens really take your pick other than putam he’s just to me I I don’t care about the ownership I really think that that he’s going to be a good player there um but
Couldn’t fault you for taking a shot on Tom hogi uh coocher batia Todd and then in the lower range Taylor pendrith Hardy Montgomery all great guys in the 6K range I don’t really recommend I don’t want to say recommend I’m not personally going down down there um
Don’t think you need to if there’s a player you really like if you say you know Ryan Moore is back he’s he’s had an eight and a fifth in the swing season I’m going to have under 5% ownership sure if 6700 makes something work in your lineup that you really need go for
It um it’s probably just not the way I’m going to build so with that thank you for taking the time I hope this is helpful to someone please leave your comments and uh look forward to next week thanks
