Congrats cam um we know you were worried about your RIS before the match started but now getting the straight set Wing does it help you clear the ques and heading to the Future matches yeah I think I I really did the basics really well today especially manag my service

Games well and I think that was the difference in the match uh wasn’t not not easy to play at all was very really quick conditions and it was the court was quite uh moving around quite a lot with the wind um um but yeah happy to be through on

Theor build up disrupted by the aftermath of whatever with your sorry what was the question build up it’s all disrupted by the aftermath of whatever you had going on with your wrist the build up like mean the practice days and everything yeah I think it was not ideal

But uh was able to lucky enough to to play on Tuesday so I had a few more days to to get ready um and and yeah I think was lucky enough to be able to manage the the practice and and uh give myself the best chance to to be ready um to

Compete and I was able to still do a lot of movement and a lot of Fitness before so it was it was good you seemed a bit more sort of vocal on court either talking to yourself or your box or just a bit more fiery maybe than we used to

Seeing from you is that maybe a deliberate mindset switch or just it was hot and heavy out there I don’t know yeah I was uh it was a first round is always tough you know uh was a bit nervous obviously always coming into the first slam of the year so uh wanted to

To really get big push with the energy and I think it’s when it’s hot like that you know I can’t think you you go with the mentality you’re going to be like trying to save a little bit I wanted to go out with uh with a lot of energy and

Um yeah like I said earlier I think I did the basics well and I served well in the big moments and I think I won a lot of points on my first serve when I did uh did make it I didn’t think I served that well but I won I didn’t lose many

Points on my first Ser which was good to see how much you know about your second round opponent yeah I actually played him once in Rome and he beat me last time uh there um but young talented player um Lefty uh and I watched the end of his

Match he uh played really well and and uh he competes really well uh kind of plays a little bit similar to me um but yeah it’s definitely going to be a tough match and looking for some Revenge from last time because he he beat me really easily last

Time how much do you think well there’s been a lot of discussion about the balls changing each week and stuff how much do you think that’s played a role in your wrist issues honestly I don’t know what it what it came down to and

Um I I don’t know um but I think we’re the players are having to adapt always to the the balls and I think there’s a lot of discussions around that and I think it’s I don’t know be be nice to see the the balls be the same for each

Kind of Swing um and I think the the players have been pretty vocal about that and yeah I think it it is what it is kind of managing to the balls and I think yeah I think I said already that the ones they get quite worn out but I

Mean in these conditions the when I was out there today with the balls absolutely flying around and really tough to control especially on that court that was quite windy blustery so yeah I think it was when when the ball slowed down it was actually we had a few

Rallies but it was a lot of Errors today consistency would help to reduce that kind of injury with wrists yeah I think so I haven’t really had any wrists injuries in in the past and and um yeah I’m not really sure too much but I think I think why not you

Know having that but I know there’s always other things going on with the sponsors of the balls and and uh having that but I think be nice to see the the balls be the same for kind of the whole slam or whole um lead up to the slam

Which they did here in Australia which was good and and for wimby as well they they used the Slingers and uh yeah you always seem to play better the warmer it is when you saw the temperature was going to go up today do you welcome that and is there is there a

Temperature where you think that’s too much and you wouldn’t relish it yeah I I I do like playing in the the warmer conditions when it’s bouncy the ball’s bouncing around and it’s traveling um and I think yeah I like to play first as well so I was coming from

Oakland have was really in the right kind of time zone kind of to play first I was up pretty early so um yeah I think it’s it was hot but I think I managed it and I felt better and better as the match progressed you sorry you ask to

Play first because of the heat no I didn’t ask to to play first but uh no I think even playing later on the day when it’s even hotter maybe but yeah and I I like to play first and it was it was a good day to to win and straight sits and

Not avoid being out there for too long it looks like fans have been letting after each game I just wonder if that something you’d been made aware of and you know especially on a smaller Court like that it seemed quite noticeable What would the fans coming in

Out yeah for me I I think if the the fans are aware of you know what what they’re doing it’s it’s okay and I’m not really too bothered about it you know playing in college that you could shout out in the middle of the point and there

Were some crazy rules in my conference that we played that that was I was pretty used to it and you could walk around and there’s coaches on the court there’s people running around there’s other players yelling uh so I think from playing in college I think I was quite used to it and

Um I think yeah I think the most people that come to watch Tennis they know um kind of how to behave and and how to uh what the rules are with that so if it’s if it’s too much it can be a bit distracting but today it didn’t bother

Me or I think it didn’t bother my opponent at all either that been that fans allowed in like I of waiting yeah I think it’s a fine line but I think why not I think when I was a fan and I was having to wait for the the change of

Ends I was like wow this is ridiculous you know playing uh long juice games and and you’re having to to wait um but no I understand why they do it um so I think it’s just about the fans being smart about it and not doing it like on breakpoint or this

It’s tough to tough to control but yeah it’s I think as a fan I think it’s I’d prefer it having to let people in but it’s it’s a fine line could get too much or or not but for me I don’t it doesn’t bother me too

Much um it was reported in Germany um overnight that Alexander Z will face a trial over domestic violence charges um in Berlin is it we know he denies those allegations but is it appropriate that he remains on the ATP players Council while that trial happens I think it’s

During the French Open yeah honestly I don’t know too much about that and I can’t comment at all unfortunately um but yeah as that trial is happening just wonder people consider that appropriate yeah honestly I don’t really know too much about that and what happened so tough to

Comment C just obviously you you come in here with a wrist issues but you’ve been seated for a while the grand slams I just wonder in terms of the mindset coming into slams these days how beneficial is it for you just knowing that you there’s a lot of good players

Out there but you’ll be playing two lower ranked opponents in your first two rounds yeah for sure it’s massive you know to to work yourself into the the tournament and I I felt like I didn’t do anything that special today and I did the the basics and the the fundamentals very

Well and I think that was enough you know I think it’s playing against some of the other seeds can be you have to really uh rise your level to to have a chance with them so yeah nice to to work yourself into the tournament it was a

Decent day I want to improve a a lot of things tomorrow um but yeah it was a big big goal to to do well in the the slams this year and how can I do that is to prepare as well as I can and make sure I’m mentally

Fresh and get enough matches and finding that balance to making sure I can can play well um over five sets cuz I I always think I can I’m tougher to beat over five sits but I’m I’m still need to prove that you know and and do that so

Um yeah nice to to take care of today but uh keep building another tough match on Thursday I just if you saw any of Andy yesterday or saw what he said afterwards and kind of what your reaction is it seems like you know he is maybe coming

Towards the end yeah I didn’t see what he said afterwards I watched a little bit of the match um I thought iiri played really well and didn’t really do anything wrong at all um and yeah i’ not seen Andy that relaxed on the court before but um I

Give credit to to jaar and yeah I didn’t see what he said after what did he say he said that this could very well last all the open kind of the windows closing basically yeah I mean uh yeah he’s obviously had an unbelievable career and he’s he’s keeps

Grinding he loves traveling he loves the sport so and um I think he’s still playing well really really well and he’s he’s still so dedicated so um I think he’s he’ll be ready to go on the next one for sure just ask one things said yesterday it’s

Frustration that he can’t take what he does in the practice court out for matches Ian I’m not sure how much if you’ve hit with him recently and how much you’ve seen how well he’s playing in practice maybe talk a little bit why he can’t take that out there yeah I

Think he can only answer that question you know I think it’s always you want to try if you’re practicing well you know there’s no guarantees you’re going to go play well on on the match court I think it’s just trying to to get I think he’ll know better than anyone you know trying

To get the best out of yourself day in day out and trying to feel like you’re trying to improve and evolve your game and and I always see he’s working on stuff and trying to do that and um I don’t see why not and I think he’s

Probably the he’s yeah one of the the best guys of that is going out and competing and playing and winning you know he’s done that year after year in his career so I think he’s definitely got all the answers and and he can go

And do it and just needs to to go and I mean he he’s done it so often I’ve seen it so much so he’s one of the best competitors out there so I think no reason why he can’t do it the last you with him um not for a while now

Yeah yeah just curious um have you ever had periods where you’re playing really well in practice but on the on the you know it just doesn’t translate and how do you kind of accept that and you know get past that yeah I think it’s you have

To think it’s only of a practice you know and I think you you’d rather be playing well in practice you know than not playing well in the practice so it’s I tend to to Really approach every practice match or practice set with full full intensity and and kind of competing

Like I would do in a in a proper match and other guys kind of are a bit more relaxed so I’m I’m really just trying to to kind of make make it the same you know make it as realistic as the actual match you’re never going to have that

Same feelings or the same people watching or the Umpire or any buids or anything but that’s kind of how I like to to do it and and yeah this can been plenty of moments when I’ve been practicing really really well and it’s just a matter of staying patient and

Staying relaxed and and committing to it I mean it’s it’s it’s it’s a tough Sport and it just takes another you’re playing against someone else always so it’s you just have to be better than the other guy on that day and yeah some guys going to come out and play too good against

You and beat you so um yeah a lot of opportunities and our sport So yeah thank you very much perfect thanks Guys
