I agree on training or not training if it hurts to a degree. Yes go light to see how you respond, but I also got into Body weight squats. The first few days it hurt a lot to do. After about a month, it feels great and I have no pain anymore. Unless it poses a serious risk of injury, some pain cam also be relieve by exercising because it develops a weakness in that area.
