This is the new Qi 10 driver family from Taylor Maid let’s see what they’ve got for us now every time tailor maid launches a new driver family it’s a really big deal in the golfing world so what have they got for us this year well before we get

Into the models the first thing you need to know is the red has gone now the red face of the stealth and stealth 2 models were pretty divisive so there’ll be as many of you jump in for joy as there will be mourning the loss of that red I

Have to say I’m in the jump in for Joy Camp I was never quite a big fan of the red the red has been replaced by a really nice new deep navy color which I think is a lot more subtle and will appeal to the masses a little bit more

When you get to the crown of the club you’ll notice that the little Banner strip that usually appears on tailor made drivers over the past few years has also disappeared we’ve got a new Infinity Crown which is the same throughout the crown there’s no breaking up and no different segments it’s just a

Nice clean black gloss finish all over which I really like so we’ve got three different models we’ve got the QI 10 standard model which is kind of the mid-range mids spinning mid- launching model we’ve got the ls model which is more the low spin bommer tour inspired

Kind of model and then we’ve got the headline of the piece really this year which is the qi1 max designed for maximum launch maximum forgiveness and maximum stability firstly to explain the name Qi 10 well Q is for Quest I is for inertia or moment of inertia Moi and 10 is

10,000 essentially what they’re talking about is the Quest for inertia 10,000 so in recent years a lot of modern drivers have plateaued around the 8,000 Moi Mark and what do I mean by Moi well think of it in terms of a measurement of stability if you stood bolt upright with

Your feet together and I tried to push you over it probably wouldn’t be that difficult because you wouldn’t be that stable if you put your back leg out behind you as in dragging weight away and changing that center of gravity you become more stable and that’s essentially what tailor made are doing

Here with the Quest for 10K inertia so how has tailor made reached that magical 10k of Moi and does that Moi 10K number translate through the whole range no it’s only the QI 10 Max model that I’ve got in my hands here that has reached that 10K Moi Mark the ls and the

Standard qi1 models have increased their Moi from their previous processors the stealth 2 and stealth 2 plus but they’re not quite the 10K it’s just the QI 10 Max so how have tailor made achieved that 10K Max well firstly the head shape of the qi1 Max has been squashed and

Stretched backwards and sidewards creating more extreme perimeters and more extreme locations to put internal waiting this gives the QI 10 Max a much more rounded and actually larger footprint which which I really like the ls model doesn’t really have that that’s more similar to the kind of peir shaped

Models that we’ve seen over the last few years from ta drivers but the qi1 standard model is somewhere in between the two not quite as big and round as the max but certainly a different shape to what Taylor Maiden loyalists will be used to the new head shape isn’t just

About Aesthetics when they’ve stretched and pulled that head as wide as they have internally they’ve created more space to move the weight to a more extreme location as in a more extreme back location which really influences that Moi and stability so in terms of the looks I’m

Sold the new shape and the new colorway I think is a real Step Up from Taylor Made and will appeal to more of a mass Market than the somewhat divisive red on the stealth and stealth 2 models the tech in the standard model is pretty similar to The Q 10 Max but just

Slightly less dramatic its head shape has changed it’s become more rounded and is a slightly larger larger footprint than last year’s stealth 2 however it does have that lower CG projection for increased Moi it’s the same CG projection Andi story in the ls model but this comes with an 18 G sliding

Weight at the front to bring that spin down and really help dial in your spin requirements all three models come with this handy white line here across the top edge with the crown and the face now so similar the Red’s gone it provides a really nice break between the two and

Makes it a lot easier to like the face up so in terms of the claims tailor made aren’t really promising us any more distance from good shots here just more full speed retention and tie to dispersion when you miss the middle of the face so I want to test this out and

I’m going to start with the qi1 ls so from a broad data and numbers point of view the qi1 ls is a really strong per performer as you’ll see from the data but also as you’ll see from the data it doesn’t seem to have moved on massively in terms of its raw

Performance numbers from the stealth 2 plus similar ball speed similar spin numbers similar launch all equate to a very similar overall distance output but that isn’t really the story here the story here is more about the forgiveness and the high higher Moi if you like now that’s very difficult to

Really quantify over a short test period and that might become more apparent over more time but for my initial testing I honestly couldn’t tell you that I felt significantly more stability or any notable more retention of ball speeds for example and that’s no bad thing because the stealth 2 plus was an

Exceptional driver in its own right but I would be lying if I said I felt the qi1 ls was revolutionary in terms of its progress It’s probably just more evolutionary now let’s see if there’s any more notable improvements in the standard qr10 model and I’m pleased to say there is

For me whilst the qi1 max is probably the headline product of this family the Q I10 standard model has actually performed the best for me and that’s somewhat of a surprise because at my speed I’m generally around sort of 119 120 mph Club head speed I’m generally

Steered into the lowest spin models of all the families but if you take a look at the numbers from the qi1 and compare them to to the numbers from last year’s stealth 2 which would be the equivalent I’m getting more ball speed I’m getting a similar launch but I’m getting quite a

Lot less spin which is equ to a really nice healthy distance output of 295 yards of carry which is excellent for me so I’m really impressed with this driver so let’s take a look at the hero product of this range the QI 10 Max okay so what

Did I see from a raw data and numbers point of view with the QI 10 Max well despite Tailor’s claims I did see a little little bit of a drop off in ball speed which can happen when you’re increasing Moi it wasn’t dramatic but it wasn’t insignificant I got a slightly

Higher launch I actually found this a very very easy driver to launch and a higher spin rate again which you’d imagine which manifested itself in a slight loss of distance for me I was only carrying this at 285 compared to some some higher numbers certainly with

The qi1 standard model I also noticed a little bit of a left bias now that’s not really been discussed in that and there’s no sort of nod to it with a Max D or a Max drawer or anything like that but it’s definitely still present I was turning

This driver over a little bit more than the other two models and that can be seen in my kind of left dispersion on the chart there but the real story around this driver for me and somewhat predictably is the stability across the face feel whether I was hitting it

Severely out the heel or out of the toe remained really really solid and I didn’t see any huge plummeting ball speeds and even dispersion despite being a little bit left because of that draw bias I’ve spoken about was very very tight I can see this driver for for the

Right player who needs a bit of extra launch and wants to neutralize that fade and need some serious playability and forgiveness I can see this making real Splash in the market so I’ve not really touched upon the sound and the feel of these drivers yet and historically tailor made drivers have stayed pretty

Similar over the past few years and that’s no bad thing they’ve listened to a lot of feedback from average players all the way through to tall players and they’ve created a really nice muted and deep feeling driver and that continues in these three and I really like the feel of these so

What we’ve got here are three very very different drivers which is great because that means there’s something for everyone if you’re a highspeed player who tends to spin the ball a lot then the tour inspired LS model will probably be the one you go for at the other end

Of that Spectrum if you’re a lower speed player who struggles to Launch the ball and could do with that extra forgiveness and maybe even a slight left bias then you’re really going to have a friend in the QI 10 Max the Q10 standard model was probably the most surprising for me is

The one that suited me the best and I may be a bit biased here but I think that sits in a really nice middle ground and will probably suit the broadest range of players lovely Middle Ground of spin launch and distance overall so as you would expect tailor

Has done a really really good job with this new driver range the new aesthetic I think is a real winner it’s really cleaned things up and while some might not agree who might have loved the red face I think this is a lot neater and will appeal to a lot more people with

The variety of models on offer here I can see this driver family being equally as successful on tour as it is in the retail stores and I expect this family to make a real Splash in 2024

  1. Great to see “Joe the Pro” on here. Has the knowledge and experience and a fantastic golfer and most importantly has the likeability factor in spades.

  2. Not a huge fan of TM driver shape but the colorway in the new driver is superb. My big concern with the glorious infinity crown is sky marks. The other concern is how many of the previous two models with face breakage.

  3. Nice review Joe le Pro! Not a fan of/user of TM but I think the ditching of the red is a plus – I only wish Titleist would remove the red from their logo!
