The debate around womenâs sports has been worn out and itâs tired.
The jokes are old and they are a reflection of a how immature society is when it comes to athletic accomplishments across the board.
You rarely hear an elite male athlete criticize womenâs athletes. Itâs always non-athletes who have never accomplished anything.
And that is the root of the problem for why womenâs sports arenât as popular.
Menâs sports and womenâs sports have two different audiences.
Right now, 99% of sports marketing is targeted towards men.
This is interesting considering Mom controls what consumer products the family is going to spend their money on.
Overall, men are too emotionally immature to become generational fans of womenâs sports.
Women consumers have shown they will pass on generational brands (Barbie was the highest grossing film in 2023).
Yet, sports marketers continue to force womenâs sports to a demographic that disrespects it (men).
In this video, I give an answer of why this is and solutions for how the perception of womenâs sports can change in the future.

Iâm a former Division I College Basketball Coach (VCU & Jacksonville) and I was the Director Of Recruiting & Advance Scouting at high school basketball powerhouse Montverde Academy. After years of working in grassroots, high school and college basketball, I wanted to take control of my own career and decided to be an entrepreneur. I watch a lot of women's sport. Have since I was a kind bc of Disney. They had a lot of original movies set around women athletes. I've watched every single women's soccer game for the national team and every NWSL game(NWSL even follows me on X). Women's sports is great fundamental sports. They play a way enthusiast love, a way coaches love. NWSL has been growing each year, part of it is they bet on themselves. Instead of trying to get hand out and pity parties. They started their new growth by streaming on Twitch. Then Paramount/CBS picked them up a little so they streamed on Paramount Plus and Twitch. Then the following year CBS wanted them exclusively gave them more money. They air the championship on CBS, every other game is on Paramount plus. They went and got their own sponsor deals with Ally being their biggest. I agree with you that ESPN needs to have a channel for women but also show their games more often on ESPN and ESPN 2. I think ESPNW already exist but only on ESPN+.
The problem is that women don't care about sports like that. Lifetime had sports block where they covered basketball, figure skating, tennis, and nobody watched
I think the WNBA constantly compare themselves to the NBA to much. Not only do they do that, but they are over masculine and dont design the game to play o women's strengths, like Volleyball, gymnastics, and softball does. On top of those things, they are very preachy especially when it comes to the lgbt stuff. There's a stigma with the WNBA.
I think the biggest mistake the WNBA makes is not understanding the entertainment aspect of the game.
Also the playerâs attitudes have to change. Iâm not going to watch you when you disrespect my favorite player for congratulating you.
And letâs keep it real, the elephant in the room is they look a little rough. Women donât want to watch that and men damn sure donât want to watch that. They have an image problem and they were much better at this in the 90âs. When Skylar Diggins first came onto the scene dudes were losing their minds over her. Lil Wayne shot his shot over Twitter at the time. Yet instead of marketing her, they focused onâŠlet me stop itâs a family channel.
Lastly, I think womenâs basketball has to change. People want to see dunks, 150ppg, and their favorite players. When Brittany Griner first got into the league she should have gotten instant star calls. She shouldnât have been hacked to the point where she feels like she has to fight players.
