Welcome back everyone Chris McCormack joined by Blake Smith and Matt from tailor maid and today we are out at the Kingdom facility at Taylor maid’s headquarters in carlbad California taking a look at new Qi iron offering so Matt give us a little rundown on uh what
We’ve got going on here I’d love to so all new for 2024 is the QI iron it’s our core game improve Ruben iron which means it’s going to be the longest and most forgiving in our lineup but what’s new for 2024 in the QI iron is this concept
Of delivering straight distance and when I say straight distance I mean through the entire set this is going to be one of if not the most accurate game improvement irons on the market and the way that we’ve been able to do that is we think about each head on an
Individual level and we design that specific head for its performance Targets in the bag how players need a long iron to perform is different from a mid or short iron and the way you distribute technology in that club head needs to support that performance goal love that so technology helping players
Always a good thing so uh you get to make these things look good for us here I’m going to try to make them sing that’s not that’s not hard when you got that much technology before we take any swings make sure give us a like subscribe to the channel and uh let’s
See what you got here buddy all right let’s go so Blake going to start you out here with seven iron mhm and that was striped this this thing’s really easy to hit now sounds fast first off I mean it looks I mean it looks like game improving iron however it’s pretty Sleek
Right so you know there’s some stuff in there that’s kind of not I’m necessarily hidden but not as inyour face from the top the back of this golf club is really cool it’s it’s really stylish so I think that’s an improvement from last year and I thought last year was really really
Cool so Blake appreciate apprciate the comments on the shaping one other thing to note is this blade length actually got a little bit longer but when you manage the proportions you can keep everything in balance and you get that clean look that you’re talking about but that longer blade length gives us more
Stability in the club head right that’s going to increase your Moi translation forgiveness but it also expands your sweet spot to where you’re 14% larger in sweet spot size with this one compared to stealth which was industry-leading from a performance perspective so we’re just continuing to build on all the
Technology we we have in these irons that was yeah that’s that’s nice and High I mean right there is seven iron I that’s that’s probably 30 ft higher than I normally do and you know I mean shaft’s going to do a little of that but majority of what’s going on is in that
Head so I mean shafts are just kind of like it’s it’s not the biggest part of the equation the head really what’s going on there um loft is number one but if you can start to get the CG down and start to make it really forgiving so not
Going to name names if you look at the competitive Spectrum what you find specifically and most notably in the long irons is they have a right tendency built into them and as you both know a higher handicap player who this is targeted for right this is your core
Gave Improvement iron give me distance give me forgiveness that Miss to the right like a fade or a slice obviously to the left if you’re a lefty um that’s their Miss right% so if you’re not playing a tailor made Iron which we have unique patents around being able to
Deliver this fast face irons will actually exaggerate that Miss so the reason that that happens is how the ball rebounds off the face you have to control the flexibility profile from the heel to the toe because an iron face is asymmetric right so if I was to ask you
At the point of collision the ball hits the face which part of the face is going to flex more the toe or the heel probably the toe the toe exactly and intuitively you know that cuz it has a longer face span so the longer the span the more flexible it is anybody that’s
Ever gotten pissed off after hitting a driver shot right grab by the head the grip you’re like H it’s easy to flex and put your hands close together it gets really stiff so we have to control how that face Flexes in order to make sure the ball is coming off uh straight
Basically you want to actually create a little bit of draw spin to help counteract that rightness but again because of our specific tailor made patented technology we can create the draw spin where the majority if not every other game improvement iron on the marketplace leaves with cut spin why
Would you ever exaggerate the Mist to the right for the game improvement player yeah I mean that’s that’s that’s where people are looking at hybrids all the time right so not that I’m not going to fit them into a hybrid but maybe they can hit that five iron and feel good
About it now so a lot of times right in that five iron four iron area I’ll start telling them like okay you’re probably going to slice this more but with that technology I mean that’s that’s going to be awesome so one of the key talking point um you talk about transitioning
Over to a rescue I’m guessing one of the reasons you do that is cuz it also helps him get the ball airborne right long irons are hard to hit cuz it’s hard to get in the air and it’s hard to hit straight well we just talked about the
Straight element but in order to help launch the ball higher in the air this is where we get into the individual head design and optimization we use a concept called flighted CG where your low Center gravity is actually in your longest iron and we worked really hard to actually
Make the long irons have a lower center of gravity as opposed to just that’s your lowest and letting everything else creep up sure right we want to put as much performance as we can into these so your four iron is going to have your lowest center of gravity making it
Easier to hit easier to get in the air easier to launch and of course we talked about the straight piece and as you work towards the shorter clubs the scoring irons that CG starts to raise strategically inside the club head to give you a a lower flight with more spin
So you can hold greens and again control your bu light so game improving irons that are actually playable for the every man there you go love that I expect High draws Out of You Blake yeah as you start to expand that sweet spot specifically in fast- face
Irons that’s where you build in your consistency right so you look at the consistency in the carry distance that first one that he hit on the thing was he caught that a little heavy the rest of which sitting in a nice little ellipse and again we’ve been hovering
Right around 6,000 to 6500 from the spin rates perspective um consistency is the name of the game and golf yeah this feels like I can hit it anywhere on the face and it’s just going to want to go straight I hit that on the toe and
Usually I get a lot of that torsion that happens and I can feel it immediately and that one didn’t I didn’t feel that as much so let’s make a a little switch Here Blake so let’s go into a little bit longer iron okay let’s have you hit a
Five and then after the five we’re going to drop down bottom end of the bag hit the wedge just so we can get a representation of that flighted Tech and moving CG like Matt was talking about wow that might have been a little bit
Low on the face but it was it was a rocket I mean for a lack of better terms it feels like it’s trampling cleaning off the face so just kind of feel energy would you be happy with a 230 yard five iron uh yeah that would Work that one’s going to go farther that one I released a little bit more yeah Club speed is picking up 240 very very easy to draw I mean I don’t know if I could make this thing fade I’d have to really really hold on to it and that’s that’s exactly what you just
Described and when a player comes into true spec for a fitting I mean we will start to identify objectives what they’re looking for so during the interview process having that conversation of identifying why are we here what is it that your current clubs aren’t doing that you want to see new
Equipment do so having an opportunity to be aware of what is built into new technology and new head offerings really gives us an opportunity to almost pre-qualify product before the player even gets a ball in the air sure so knowing the tech behind what we have in
New Qi iron for that game improvement player that may struggle with a little bit lower launch lower Spin and a right Miss and this gives us an opportunity to say okay for that particular player profile now we have something that’s specifically designed an engineer to help that particular player type exactly
Love it so good sample there with iron still nice high as you said easy to draw High draws so let’s see pitching wedge see if that flight comes down and gives you a little bit more control coming into the green there I mean right off
The bat I’m looking at this and the turf interaction was was uh was definitely a thought wasn’t it yeah uh you think about each iron on an individual basis you have to include the soulle geometry so actually the long irons for example we lowered that Leading Edge a little
Bit to help players get under the ball and then in the short irons um there’s a little bit more uh trailing Edge relief again just to change the way that the club’s going to move through the turf and even in the case of like the a wedge
Or The Sand Wedge there’s a little bit more heel relief um this type of player is not necessarily looking for a lot of Versatility around the greens but we wanted to give them something that’s just a little easier to chip with sure bunkers etc those are crispy well
And like you said this particular player this is a player that’s going to go with a set composition that might go all the way down through those wedges that match the rest of the set yes so clean easy transition that goes from their longest iron all the way down to their highest
Lofted wedge y so taking that into account and thinking about Soul geometry and actual playability for that particular player was great I’m just hearing a stripe show over here while we’re chatting yeah audio is really good here it’s making me sound like I know what I’m doing here this is this is
Really easy to hit D that is a really good sound and for that category of iron that looks really solid for getting into those intermediate short irons and I mean the sound coming off of those is really nice thought I’d flight one and there you go yep as expected making them look good
Usually that’s kind of tough flighting the flighting the game improvement iron that’s that’s that’s pretty cool all right that’s enough of that so really excited to add these to The Matrix at truspec but we have another offering that we didn’t have an opportunity to test today so kind of
Give us a little overview of what we got there yeah sure so there’s two ways to get straight distance in 2024 from the QI iron you have the core game improvement iron which is Qi and then there’s also going to be a qih HL option that HL standing for higher and lighter
So it’s designed to be two degre weaker the club head itself is actually lighter the shaft is lighter the grip is lighter the package overall is lighter should you choose to do that through your fittings um it’s designed for players that are looking for a little extra help
Getting the ball in the air whether that be because you have a slower swing speed and you actually can benefit from a little more spin actually you know slower swing speed players not a lot of people know this you can increase your carry Distance by increasing your spin
Spin keeps the ball in the air spin keeps the ball in play so all the more reason to come to you at true speec and make sure you have not just the right Club head for you but the right Loft and L speec as well so now you got all the
Options to do that love that and thank you again for the time today really appreciate it and with that make sure give us a like subscribe to the channel and when you’re ready to test new Qi product come see us at your local trpc and we’ll see you next time

TaylorMade does it again.
This looks almost exactly like the stealth irons, granted the stealth irons seemed like they were pretty good, but these seem pretty solid, look a little sexier.
Not for me but could be a good fit for my playing partner who is looking for new irons. My only issue is the same as I had with Stealth irons, what is the market for the Core Qi irons: TM already have a great iron for mid/high HCP in the P790 and for the high HCP in the Stealth HD, and now the Qi HL so who should game the core Qi iron
Would love to get a fitting done but prices just to fit are too high.
