Luke Donald spoke to the media ahead of the Dubai Invitational, an event that marks the start of his 19th year on the DP World Tour.
19th year on DP World Tour I think yeah 2002 is when I turned well 2001 when I turned professional so it’s been even more that more more than that uh as a professional but uh yeah I I certainly you know uh 46 years old I turned in
December so you feel the body doesn’t work quite as well but uh still enjoying coming out and competing and trying uh my best against some of these you know great young players and it’s not easy but uh I love I love competing yeah I
Think I was trying to do the math in my head this morning I think it’s 115 days since my last competitive shot um which was the Sunday of wenworth so I haven’t taken a break that long in a long time uh I used to take a couple months off uh
When the seasons were a little bit different um you know 10 12 years ago but you know maybe put the clubs away for a month or two but um you know this was a a good long long break got to spend some good time with the family and
Yeah but ready ready to uh get going again my preparation is slightly different I have to be a little bit more efficient because of just the way my body is I just can’t grind uh out there you know six seven hours a day so try to
Be a bit more efficient with my time um but do enough where I feel like you know I’m I’m sharp and I’m I’m ready to compete um again I feel like most parts of my game just need uh a little bit of work here and there and uh the rest kind
Of takes care of itself yeah yeah I mean day one when I when I announced I don’t know early December that I was going to do it again I was already had some thoughts in my head about you know how we can give the team the the best
Opportunity for to to repeat in in New York it’s going to be a very different Challenge and it will take some some different um you know different uh approaches uh because of that but uh I’m I’m I’m excited I’m excited uh cuz it is going
To be a lot more difficult a lot more difficult away from home um so but uh I’ve got plenty of time to kind of work work some things out and start thinking about things and uh you know I think uh um I’m still optimistic that uh you know
I can give the the guys a good opportunity to to try and win away which which is not easy to do
