This week on The Gravel show we will talk with Sunshine! We are Chili Bowl Teammates next week!! He broke his back last year but closed out the year with a BIG Outlaw Win!! He plans on running the High Limit Racing series FULL TIME in 2024! Can’t wait to have Tyler on the show tonight!

N Dude I did this so bad we don’t want to look like to your crw here yeah we don’t want to look like we’re soft yes is it you or the car oh yeah what’s going on everybody David grael here happy New Year we took a week off from the holidays flew back to

Connecticut got home this Tuesday and it seemed seems like boom we’re here for chili bowl I leave in the morning for the Chili Bowl got a little bit different background I didn’t like the dark background before I’m using like a a spare room at our house and it’s

Really not ideal for podcast but I’m trying my best trying new things uh to make it the best we can I’ll just try not to move a lot and hopefully do a good job for you guys uh really excited for today we got sunshine on who just announced where he’s racing this year

He’s also my chili bow Team mate and I’ve known him for a long long time uh since the beginning of my racing career uh first we got to thank our sponsors we got to thank Marlo’s metal fabrication in do Pennsylvania need any metal work done hit up Donnie over there and

They’ll get you hooked up Lake home retreats in Wisconsin hopefully I’ll be staying there uh at a Airbnb on the lake right by Wilmont Raceway and uh you know sipping on some drinks and and hanging out at a lake right before Wilmont and then we got to thank Todd and his

Racetracks and all those events he’s got going on this year we have the 100,000 to win High Bank hustle uh that’s starting the week and then finishing off with the high Bank Nationals that’s 250,000 to win so it’s going to be the 19th and 20th 100,000 on the 20th

250,000 on the 22nd uh then we have the Jackson Nationals I believe that’s $25,000 to win right after Knoxville and then a new race this year is called the shootout uh it’s their season Ender for Houston Speedway I believe it’s Labor Day weekend and that’s a 40,000 to win

So lot of money on the line at Houston and Jackson this year unprecedented really so really excited um you know it’s a track that I’m pretty good at so and and it’s home cooking our brand new Race Shop will be there this year so uh we could sleep on the same property have

Our cars in the same property where the racetrack is at so super excited for that um other than that guys uh obviously since last time we’ve talked um Chili Bowl uh rosters have been shown uh you know where I’m racing Chili Bowl um you know high limit Outlaws couple

New people have uh came along since we’ve last talked so we’ll talk about that a little bit we’ll talk about high limit Outlaws Australia quarter mid racing um and our glove giveaway or not giveaway but our auction for the um breast cancer awareness uh I believe we

Have a winner um the winner was on Facebook so we’ll announce that in a little bit on who won the gloves but right now the highest bid is $900 with Dana gravel on Facebook so if you guys are you know bidding on Twitter or Instagram or Facebook make sure you

Check each platform we try to update as much as we can and let you know who the winner is but 100% of the proceeds are going to a family battling breast cancer we had $1,000 from um Bruner service center in Inola Pennsylvania uh that also is th being thrown into the pot

Plus all the money we got from our breast cancer shirt so it’s going to be at least $34,000 uh donated to uh a family in need so um yeah so with further Ado let’s uh get sunshine in on here back staway for the final time and into turn

Three threatening weather all around the Port Royal Speedway all day long but at the end of the day it’s Sunshine Tyler Courtney wins night one of The nney Showdown David gravel second James mcfat third Logan shuart fourth and Lance DS in fifth the VP fuels Checkered Flag up top to

Celebrate a very happy Tyler Courtney in Victory Tyler what’s going on how’s it going buddy good you guys embarrassed us at Port Royal the allstars swept our asses uh yeah uh I think we obviously get to race there a little bit more than the Outlaws but uh yeah I think it was a

Good good uh weekend for for the allstar to you know show that um we obviously have you know some they had I guess had now um some some pretty good uh you know Talent you know we had you know obviously don’t race with we didn’t race

With the Outlaws a last year but I felt like whenever you know like me and my me and zeev and then you know a couple other guys we had on the on the tour showed up we we put up a a good fight and then obviously we we obviously got

To Showcase it there at Port Royal so it was a a great weekend for for the allstars yeah tricky track man I feel like it’s a track I’m pretty good at but I can’t win at I I think I have a lot of top fives but never have won there it’s and then

Obviously yeah it’s a tough place like we like we were really good the first time we went there when we first built the wing team uh we went there I think it would have been 2020 we went there for the tusky and we ran like top five

Every night and then uh the next year we go there as a full-time Allstar and I don’t think we finished inside the the top 10 like all year so um yeah we we got a whole you know special package that we take to that place you know just

You know kind of watching what the local guys do there and and so on and so forth to you know get better obviously there’s you know some um you know big money rais is there that and it was a big part of our schedule as as an All-Star team so

We knew we had to get better there and obviously you go into Central PA to any track and it’s it’s tough so um we got a little bit better at Williams Grove too last year and and uh we didn’t we didn’t race Lincoln at all last year which

Another place we kind of struggled at and then uh yeah we obviously got a lot better at Port Royal yeah it’s going to be a different year I think you’ll still go to Williams Grove probably with the all Outlaw events y but you won’t probably go to Lincoln and then um um

You’re obviously going to Port Royal but we won’t be going to Port Royal so I think you could go to the summer nationals right and the national open or is it just a national open yeah I don’t think we’ll I think we’ll probably go do something else Summer Nationals weekend

But we’ll definitely be at the national open um yeah last year we think we I think we were in ninth or something in the ninth or 10th in the National open um you know finale and then the first race we were on the poll and I think we

Ended up like fourth in the the which would have been the first night but it was actually afterwards so um yeah Williams gr is a tough place it’s a it’s not one of my favorite places I’ll be UPF front about that but it’s still a

Place you you want to go win at right it’s you know it’s a half mile and it’s uh it’s legendary so you you want to go win at those places yeah no doubt so obviously man I I felt like we thought you announced where you were racing like

A month ago but like everybody kind of knew where you’re were going to race and you finally announced it I mean did you guys wait till after PRI because everybody was announcing at that time yeah kind of that and just uh we just had some stuff we had to finish putting

In place really to just make sure we had all our ducks in a row to you know have everything announced and um yeah then you know when we got all the ducks in a row you know kind of the market kind of got flooded with announcements so we

Just kind of waited a little bit to to put it out there and um yeah I think I I pretty good idea that pretty much everyone knew where we’re where we were going to go and I know it wasn’t probably much of a shock to anybody to

See us you know sign with high limit but yeah excited to to go high limit racing and um you know kind of be a part of a a new chapter in SM car racing yeah so I I feel like in years past you’ve probably wanted to race The Outlaws and maybe

Didn’t want to go too early and maybe beat yourself down or something like that but I think obviously now you’re you’re ready I feel like and you probably think you’re ready like on a consistent basis now and then the high limit deal pops up and looking at the

Schedules like you know I love the World of Outlaws and I’m going to support the World of Outlaws and Brad swe’s a good friend of mine but this year you know the high limit deal has a very interesting advantage on the you know schedule side W with all the races that

They’re they’re putting up and then you guys aren’t missing really any of our big races so for a lot of teams it makes a lot of sense uh uh doing what you guys are doing uh the flip side is now you know there’s 16 cars doing it were you

Surprised that 16 people would sign up to do it uh yeah I didn’t think I thought we’d kind of be around that 12 number kind of where the allstars were there for you know a number of years obviously a different 12 cars than what the allstars had but um yeah 16 was kind

Of a surprise and really the caliber of 16 cars that we have is um was even more of a surprise but um but for me as a driver you know I look at it as you know a challenge that that I wanted and honestly I think you know if high limit

Doesn’t come out with their midweek Series last year we we we Outlaw raced last year right but then uh we look at the schedule last year and um we can you know compete for our third All-Star Championship run the midweek high limit series and not miss any big Outlaw shows

Like it was kind of tough for us as a team to not try and go do that and then uh yeah then this year um you know we you know we kind of you know we had our foot in the doorway high limit to to do their midweek stuff last year and um

Kind of you know full support of you know Brad and Kyle and what they what they’ve got going on and um obviously the Outlaws is still the World of Outlaws right you want to go win a World of Outlaw Championship but for us is a

Team it just kind of made sense for us to go the high limit route and yeah I’m excited and uh obviously like you said we don’t have to miss any any big Outlaw shows so it’s a it’s a win-win I feel like situation on our part as a as a

Team as a whole and yeah I’m excited I think sprinker racing is in a in a great spot right now whether you’re running the world of outs or high limit series it’s a it’s going to be a great year for sprink car racing yeah I’m excited cuz I

Know the Outlaws are are having some things in their back pockets and I think they’re going to step up in certain regards or races and um I think you know running top three in the World of Outlaws is very very good way to make a living but that’s not guaranteed

Obviously there’s a lot of good guys Racing for it but the point fund money and the toe money is Awesome with the Outlaws and then you know you’re able to race for more money to win with the with the high limit Series so I’m just super

Excited at the end of the season where does it all lay out because you know the allstar guys like you know you guys in the last couple years it it was going to be extremely hard for you to come up with money earned similar uh to World of

Vla guys you’re obviously won the Kings Royal year up there in earnings um but yeah you go win a race like that what you win one of those races you’re gonna you kind of put yourself in a different different spot on the earnings list but you’re not guaranteed to win one of

Those races every year that’s the thing it makes or breaks your year it’s like you can’t Bank on winning one of those right like obviously you’re hopeful but like as far as the average like I’m just really curious how it’s going to turn out the top five in Outlaw points and

Then the top five in like high limit points how that all Lays out with money earned and yeah races run too like I’m very curious you know you know Brad’s like oh we’re GNA race less but I think you guys are actually gonna race more than the world Outlaw guys I think we’ll

End up racing a little bit more than we have the past couple years because of you know the off weekend they kind of have built into the high limit schedule you know we’ll go fill in with a you know a Knoxville local show or uh you

Know go find an out while weekend or something like that right I think we we’ve got a couple built-in weekends ourself um as a team just to you know kind of regroup and things like that but yeah yeah most of our off weekends from high limit will be spent racing you know

Elsewhere and uh I think that’s also the beauty of the the high limit Series right or the schedule to um you got a little bit of freedom to to move around um so yeah it’s I’m excited and obviously like I say nille local show like yeah it’s a local show but for us

It’s it’s the biggest race of the year right like you’re going you’re going there to get ready for you know the the granddaddy of them all and um you know the year we sat on the front row we we spent a lot of time focusing on Knoxville we went there you know twice

Um you know during the season for local shows and then obviously we had our All-Star show there and we we went into uh Nationals you know with a lot of confidence and um in our ability to get around that place and our our setup and I think that’s kind of something we have

To go back to obviously last year was different with uh I got hurt at Kings Royal so for us the whole program was different right and um but yeah for us we we spent a lot of time focusing on any weekend we can get to Knoxville we

Try to go so um it’s just that’s that’s the the race we all we all it’s like we obviously we Circle other races on our calendar but that one’s got a big circle around it right yeah no no doubt Knoxville’s special and no matter what the future holds if it’s the second

Highest paying race or third or first right I feel like Knoxville is always just going to be special it’s our Daytona or Indianapolis right it’s just it’s always going to be number one if not it’s going to be number two if something else changes but yeah it just

They do it the best they have just a unique format on the town you’re in a town y you know all the press conferences and the fan Zone with the kids and just how many t-shirt trailers and all the food vendors like it just unique the camping right it’s

Just you’re so connected with everybody there where you know Elora you camp you know outside the track and I don’t know it just doesn’t it doesn’t well not everybody stays there right people they’ll go to you know Greenville or um Sydney or they they go to hotels around

Right and not everybody camps at at elor but everybody camps at Knoxville or or is at least within 10 minutes of track right and so and then like people ask like comparison to chil B versus Knoxville like chil bow people leave the Expo and they go six different directions right yeah Knoxville you

Leave the track you go across the street to Dingus yeah you come back and and you’re in the campground right everybody everybody’s in the same spot for for seven days and it’s just it’s a whole different atmosphere and yeah it’s uh it’s best week of the year yeah no doubt

So we already got a question so I’ll answer now Garrett Parson says what do you think about The Fan Experience Gio is doing so I don’t know if you read it but he’s offering not offering but he’s doing like a giveaway where if you buy stuff on his merchandise store or just

Maybe follow him you get a free entry if you follow I think and then every dollar or item you get a certain amount of entries and at Knoxville they’re going to pick a winner and some’s gonna drive the car on Knoxville like that be I I hadn’t seen that actually so that’s uh

That’s interesting that’s a honestly a great idea I think it’s fan like that’s nerve-wracking I’m I’m sure it’s GNA be some used up equipment and maybe not their best motor but like yeah and and honestly as a fan I think if you even if they just got to idle around Knoxville

That’s a it’s a one in a million opportunity right and uh it’s uh I mean you know dis rolling around that place is is special as it is but yeah I think as a fan uh to get to go and do that would be be incredible really but yeah I hadn’t

Seen that that’s a that’s a an awesome idea yeah like I think a lot of people have are probably scared and people get to do the two-seater rides but really a Sprint car is so rough and and unique that if nobody’s ever done it before or

If they’ve never even raced a car before it’s going to be overwhelming or feel fast that idle because nobody realized that they idle at like 30 40 miles an hour like they can’t go any slower like so that that is like unsettling for people I’ve never experienced that

Before yeah it’s like uh my my grandparents owned ponville and uh or linol Park Speedway in pville for 16 years and they had a a driving school and uh my mom said she she went out and you know she said I I drove the Sprint

Car and I was like well how was it and she said she said she felt like she was flying and she came in and uh my grandpa said uh you know you can press the gas pedal down she’s like I did but she was literally just idling around but she

Thought she was going as fast as she’s ever gone in her life yeah I did the same thing when I went to Australia a crew guy was there he’s like man I I went rented a Sprint car and it was so fun and they showed me

The video on it and you know he was maybe just barely going above Idol and like it was like the most thrilling thing thing ever so it’s gonna be interesting to see man I hope whoever does it gets on the throttle a little bit yeah obviously props Geo that’s a

Good way to get you know obviously fans engaged with him and and his his merchandise and his just just is following a general yeah I’m guessing I don’t know if the Outlaws had anything to do with it because they shot video and they did that ESPN like spoof thing

That they just did that was pretty funny yeah that came out good I thought they did a good job but uh you know maybe Knoxville’s involved and then his car owner is so involved in that region I think obviously fan engagement is something we we you know we focus on and

Kind of gets lost sometimes but obviously I think I especially you know how important fan engagement is and how important fans are to to spr C car racing right we don’t uh we don’t get to have you know big races like we get to have without fans and uh I think we kind

Of kind of get lost in that sometimes but I I feel like the last couple years we’ve been uh you know on the right track of getting you know fans back in the seats and you know engaging with them as much as we can yeah no doubt I I

Agree I agree so you kind of you know mentioned it a little bit but you’re back injury at at Elora did you know when you crashed that you messed up your back pretty good yeah it was uh pretty immediate like uh I landed and felt like

I had a knife stuck right in the middle of my shoulder blades so yeah it’s was pretty immediate um I lost my breath yeah I can I can still I it’s still a little it’s a little tight sometimes but uh yeah but uh yeah it’s um I knew like

So it knocked the wind out of me and then I couldn’t really Catch My Breath because I every time I tried to take a deep breath it hurt my back so um my first thought was to get out of well my first thought was make sure everything was working right and then everything

Was working so I you know got out of the car and like I knew something was wrong and like normally because I I couldn’t normally I pop right out like it’s just something I’ve always done like you just you just get out and you know kind of

Assess everything and um yeah got out got in the ambulance and went to the infield Care Center Alora there and I walked in they’re like what’s wrong I like well I’m pretty sure I broke my back and uh you know they started you know doing you know working me over and

They kind of ran their hand down my my spine and like it dropped me to the floor like yeah we need to get you to the to the hospital but there’s obviously there’s like four laps into the features so um it wasn’t a a dire situation right so we waited till the

Feature was over and they they took me in the ambulance from there to oh I don’t remember the hospital we went to but um went from there and then you know I did a Cas MRI and determined that my back was broken and um a fracture and uh

I’ve went to a specialist in here in Indie um that uh Dave sharpley got me hooked up with and uh yeah he told me just uh it wasn’t a I got very lucky right and uh it wasn’t a very serious you know break so but I just had to sit

Here right on this couch for for four weeks and and and do nothing so did that went back to him and you know actually you know got cleared to you know right the at the start of Nationals but I knew as myself as a competitor that I I

Didn’t want to make that my first race back um and we we had we had a commment to Anthony to to run the Nationals and I didn’t want to we could have ran two cars but you don’t it’s not a race you go and do that at and um I felt more

Comfortable you know waiting another week to to go run New York and um you know kind of a those are slick slower tracks to to get my feet back under me and yeah um yeah I I don’t want to be at half strength at uh at the bigest race

Of the year yeah no doubt if you work out or do physical therapy or feel like you’re okay not Ville is a very physical track and man your heart rate gets up there and if your back’s a little sore and you get your heart rate up then it

Starts hurting more like yeah then you make mistakes and that’s not a place you can make mistakes at especially not during that week yeah no doubt so it was probably the right call yeah it was a it was a hard decision obviously right because you want to go you want to go

Racing and as a competitor you want to race the biggest race of the year but um and the big picture of things that Knoxville is not going anywhere um you know I knew knew that you know if I just I just be smart about it unfortunately

And and uh you know wait and you know come back this year at at full strength and be ready to go zeb’s in here said he’s a big fan and he misses you is he running chili bow nope he uh so he he obviously had a couple big

Crashes this year um so he he he wanted to take off season and uh you know get himself back to to full strength too and obviously this year is going to be a big big season for yeah especially guys like me and him right it’s a yeah a little bit bigger

Stage for us to be on and um you know I think we’re obviously looking forward to the challenge and um but yeah at the same time you got to be you gota be ready to go and uh he’s uh so Props to him for you know being smart about it

And you know taking care of himself first to to to be ready to go well I want to know how good he’s taking care of himself because I know he rattled his brain at Charlotte I guarantee he’s playing a shitload of fortnite this off season yeah we we we played a lot there

For a little bit but the after the the OG stuff went away um we haven’t played as much but I know’s he’s got into basketball here the last couple weeks so he’s been playing a lot of that yep wow wow well he’ll have to join in at

Knoxville then I I haven’t got to see him play I know I’m not good at basketball so I I’ll gladly go watch at Knoxville but um but he he might be better at basketball than I hope he’s better at basketball than he’s at golf really he’s not good at Golf N he’s not

We’re probably about the same at golf we’re we’re pretty mediocre a that’s funny cool yeah so what did you learn because you know I’m always trying to learn I I broke my back in 2009 at Tero right and I always I had an insert then

And I went to a hybrid and and I’ve learned so much in the last just couple years um right adjusting your hybrid the right way how much foam you need under your ass how to mount uh seat belts um ratchet belt no ratchet belt you know running that extra uh flange deal for

Your crotch belt so it doesn’t happen like what happened with Casey’s crash you know there there’s so many things that we’re constantly learning I think you could have a butler seat and you could have any sort of insert if it’s by sharp or or whoever you want and you

Could still get hurt it doesn’t make you invincible and there’s so many small details that people Overlook yeah I think we I think we there’s a lot of things we’ve done to make racing better right and I think there’s always stuff we can keep doing

To to to make the safety better but at the end of the day sprinker racing is dangerous right like we we’ve done a lot of things in to put in place to keep ourselves safer and you know we keep you know doing more things to be safer but

The at the end of the day man sprinker racing is a dangerous sport and um you know things happen right and I think um so the back injuries we had this year you know across the country we’re all in the same spot that I had like T2 three

And four which is like right between your shoulder blades I feel like the back injuries we had you know 10 years you know 5 to 10 years ago were all lower back injuries and now I think everybody’s got inserts now I think we’ve we’ve kind of I don’t want to say

We’ve fixed the lower back stuff right I but I I I feel like we see less and less lower back injuries and now it’s it’s kind of Upper and so when I talked to my doctor he told me my injury was more of a whiplash injury it wasn’t from Landing

Like I he he said the landing had part to do with it but it was more cuz you I was already forward like this and it’s more like like an actual car crash like Whiplash like so like my my neck went forward and then then compressed down

And uh and so just interesting but you know talking with desire Simpson um I definitely didn’t have my my hybrid set up right so um you know I think just as a a a driver like you you think you’re Invincible right like so you you try to

You know get away with with a couple things and then it’s always it’s not if it’s when it happens right so um you know I learned a lot about you know how to set that and um so Des has been a big help and then obviously uh Dave sharpley

Has been a big supporter of mine for a long time and um he talks with um um I can’t think of his name right now but Dr traml traml so like and and trl’s you know obviously he’s the best guy out there for for I feel like race car

Injuries and race car medicine right and um so they they they do a lot of a lot of research on you know what we can do to keep keep getting you know safer and better but um yeah and we do different things here and there and obviously I

Feel like all of our safety equipment is getting better it’s just it’s still tough like we always come back at the end of the day sprinker racing is dangerous and um you know things happen and it’s just you know it’s unfortunate and you know but obviously we we all we

Keep trying to get better it’s just a matter of what what’s next right and you know you fix one thing and it might actually hurt you over here but we don’t know that till it happens and um you know unfortunately it has to happen for

Us to to figure out what we have to do next yeah for sure I just you know just try to spread knowledge and you know the hybrid when I always checked mine you know I always put my head down and kind of went like this but on the when on the

Tension side you got to keep your head like way up and go forward and they only want to move it I think it’s three in or something like that is what they want for play or one inch I forget exactly but at Char this year I had them you

Know check it to a te make sure mine’s good and if anybody’s listening that’s a race car driver I don’t know if you do this Tyler but every year you should get your your tether replaced um and and maybe even halfway through the year but my thing at Charlotte I leave my hybrid

At Simpson there at the trailer and they put a a whole new deal on and they SFI certify it and you know it’s fresh and and ready to go for the next year so if you guys whoever is listening been running a hybrid for five years and I’ve

Never changed that you’re making a big mistake yeah because it’s it’s just like your seat belts right like Y when you crash they’re stretching you may not even think they’re stretching but they’re definitely stretching and um it’s no different with the tethers on on your stuff and yeah it’s uh it’s

Important but it’s obviously things that get overlooked and um and you know some people ah well it wasn’t that bad it’ll be okay but like I said earlier it’s not if it’s when something happens yep no doubt so uh I’m sick kid said cheers fellas hope you both have a successful

Season and you both win the titles so appreciate it he sent uh 50 bucks I think that’s one of the biggest uh ones ever sent out so appreciate it man and yeah I hope Tyler wins the championship and I hope he thinks I should win the championship too

Absolutely I want you to beat Brad’s ass this year that’s I’m G to try for sure and uh yeah I’m looking forward to obviously um you know obviously with you know series whatever um yeah I think at the end of the day I’m excited to get to

Race against a you know a five-time world B champion and um it it’s going to make uh all of us that didn’t get to race with them all the time I think a lot better and uh it’s just a be a hard season but you know this is something

I’ve been looking forward to the last couple years and like I said like we probably would went all racing last year if the you know the midweek stuff didn’t come up and it just made sense for us to do that um yeah I’m I’m excited to to

Take on the challenge and be on uh you know uh kind of a different level than where I’ve been at the last couple years yeah for sure all right so let’s switch gears so you know people may know or not know but I came from Quarter

Racing and uh you did as well and you know you had your brother you know Tyler and Taylor always the Courtney brothers and uh where where was your home track was terot your home track mini Indie oh mini Indie was okay yeah they’re at the State fairgrounds and then yeah we we we

Really only run Tero um for the grains when they had those because I feel like there was only two dirt tracks that held the grains for the longest time we go to the terot and then hagertown Y and they they switch off years so uh we have mini

Indie um think started my first year was 02 and uh yeah I ran there till like 06 and then moved up to the micros yeah I think I met you at Tero at the grands in like 2003 yeah yeah I I didn’t remember the exact year but your cars looked

Identical you both looked like your guys were from California you had bleach blonde hair back then long hair and uh you know obviously West Mack and stuff like that and uh yeah we had we had a blast there what was the deal didn’t you have like a blue muscular guy with like

A big arm it was a bull so we like ran bull rider race cars that’s what and uh yeah so I don’t it was a yeah it was a big blue just musly bowl that uh I don’t even know how we ended up put them on

There I think we kind of just took like bull rider had like a bow too and we just kind of made our own and because we we were a dealer for as well oh you so we just kind of took it on our our own and put them on the front but everybody

Kind of remembered that then you remember the visors that everybody had that you could they had the little like you could put like mine said like my name across the front of it like everybody like then had ones that had like eyes on it so a lot of people

Remember me from that and um yeah cor is uh is a great time in in uh my life as a kid right and obviously you get to make a lot of friendships you know across the whole country that that U you know I still have today I feel like I can go

Anywhere in the country and I I know somebody right at least from from quter mid racing and then yeah it’s a it’s a great time and uh yeah got to you know made a lot of lifelong friends through it I feel like it’s a good way to learn

How to race I don’t know if Quarter Racing is I feel like we go against a lot what we were taught when we were younger correct um you know the slider line didn’t exist in Quarter Racing right you wanted to Arc your corner have a good exit where you

Know people like Rico or Shane Stewart or even Larson right they’re they’re just entering with as much Wing speed as possible at all times and you watch people like me or Darren Pitman who are quarter guys like just have a little bit different philosophy on like

How to race and it’s just I feel like how all you’re brought up and and kind of what you’re comfortable doing makes it good at running the bottom yeah y That’s why I like good bottom yeah but yeah I think I think quarter mation yeah it’s definitely different but it was but

It’s still teaches you a lot of finesse I feel like as a as a driver especially like I don’t know if they still have a lot of light a or heavy a anymore but uh like L A taught taught me a lot of throttle control right and uh yeah

Things like that and but yeah I think yeah getting the micro stuff is definitely a a better transition to go you know and Sprint carac and for for a guy like me like I think there’s a lot of things that kind of you overlap from micros to you know mid and Sprint

Car especially now the like a wing micro dude is basically like a mini sprint car and it’s uh it’s pretty wild what how how far they’ve come with with the micro technology too yeah I wanted to talk about that as well but I wanted to stick on the quarter racing and so were

You the favorite son did your brother give up racing like what happened because Quarter Racing you guys were equal and then it seemed like your brother didn’t really race micros much right yeah we well we ran micros the same amount of time um so we got to

Basically we got to we were 15 or 16 and my dad’s like hey we I can afford micer racing I can’t afford to do anything else so like it’s kind of up to you guys to to take it from here and um so that’s

That’s when I took the step to to go I went to Tim’s Tim and Brian and told them I want to be a spr card driver or race car driver and um yeah like obviously he’s like well I can’t just just put you in a car but you’re more

Than welcome to come come help and you know learn and and do this and you know kind of see where it goes and so that’s that’s kind of how my path got started down that line and you know kind of you got to meet meet people and learn how to

Do all the things then I you know put my own smart card team together with Kyle Anderson from Texas who he actually raced my dad in mod lights back in the day and um so he helped me we bought out Matt Cheryl from Oklahoma we bought I

Think it was like $10,000 we bought his whole Sprint car operation and um started from there and uh me and my dad went racing into the whole usct tour in 2013 and um you know then you know 14 15 I I think I drove probably 50 different cars Wing non-wing midgets whatever for

For all different guys never really had a full-time ride in anything and um you know then the kind of from there just uh you know I got a full-time my first full-time ride was with top Motorsports who Justin Grant runs for now and um so they’re kind of guys that gave me a

First opportunity and then um you know after Brian passed away we started CMR and uh that was my you know my first full-time ride and then um then we started the spr car team and it’s kind of I think I think going on my i’ have been 27 yeah this be my seventh

Year with cmor now yeah it’s crazy time flies it’s you know you kind of had a late start to your career just because you didn’t have that opportunity late yeah I didn’t I didn’t start racing a Sprint car till I was 19 so yeah um um

Like I ran obviously race a lot before then but um I mean look at Cory day he’s already won you know Outlaw shows as a 17year old so it’s just uh you know different times and you know guys get different opportunities and it’s just uh

You get it’s what you do to make make the most of those opportunities that you get and um yeah I it’s uh I wouldn’t trade anything I’ve I’ve done to get here for anything it uh makes you appreciate it a lot and um makes you

Cherish what you got right now at the at the moment yeah for sure I mean it’s cool you’ve accomplished quite a bit and honestly you know your transition from non-wing to Wing even though you had some Wing experience kind of before you committed fully to the non-wing Sprint

Car stuff and and midgets a little bit but um you know probably one of the best guys to transition uh to Wing stuff for sure and it’s not an easy thing to do it’s just a different discipline and it seems like since you focused on for the

Last you know four years or whatever it’s been I feel like you know it shows in the consistency and obviously you know Jake’s a good Crew Chief and and you got a pretty good motor program it seems like you guys qualified you know pretty damn good this year I felt so um

Yeah it’s it’s uh it’s cool to see that’s for sure yeah it’s been it’s been fun obviously we took took a big leap going from you know obviously we we W A usack spr Car Championship and a usack midja championship and um but just we kind of look at the landscape of

Motorsports and we’re Wing spr c car racing was heading you know as a team and as a driver I felt like that’s the step uh we wanted to take and I wanted to take and yeah it was uh we didn’t expect to well we kind of got forced

Into running a lot of Outlaw stuff that first year because of covid right like we were we had a plan to you know go run Attica Fremont and um you know go hit you know shows here and there and then you towards the end of the year start

Start running Outlaw stuff excuse me and then uh Co happened and uh the only thing racing was Outlaw shows right so um we kind of got forced into it but it’s probably honestly when we look back on it the best thing that happened to us um just you know throw yourself to the

Wolves and um fight for your life and uh it it was uh we had some good runs I think we we actually won the first race out with the wings Sprint car at Farmington there in Missouri and then uh yeah we got our our bus kicked there for a while you know

Racing The Outlaws was is not easy especially when you don’t we we’re just starting a program and but uh it it made me and Jake uh learn a lot and you know he he was kind of new to it with me as well he he did some stuff with Hunter

And a couple other guys on the wing side a little bit but really we were couple couple rookies coming into it as a as a team together and um yeah it’s been been awesome to see the the progress we’ve made together as a team and you know as

A crew chief and Driver um to get to this point and obviously yeah then so after Co you go 2021 we go full-time all racing and um you know we go and win Kings Roy and eight I think eight Allstar shows in the championship and like that’s a Dream Season right for

Anybody and uh like that was our first year so we kind of kind of spoiled ourselves the first year and then you know you kind of get set back down you know the second year we still we won our fair share but we kind of struggled at

Uh at some different places that we hadn’t normally struggled at and you know in this year we come out and we we struggled mightily like it was it was tough like we we’re we just couldn’t figure anything out with that new tire at the start of the year and um then I

Get hurt and uh then I I came back and and uh yeah we kind of hit the ground running and and had a really good strong end of the season with which uh obviously gives us a lot of confidence going into this year obviously there’s

No new tire this year I’m sure it’ll be a little bit different I feel like they change every time they come from from the factory a little bit but um but yeah it gives us a lot of confidence going into to this year and just been it’s

Been fun I sprinker racing in general is fun but uh to to go to the wing side and um you know compete with the guys that uh you know I look up to as a as a sprink driver myself it’s been been a lot of fun yeah no doubt um

Yeah that that’s uh that’s cool um so we’re running Chile bows teammates here um with Brent Cox and Abacus Racing uh are you having fomo here as of late uh watching all these guys racing sprint cars racing for good money in Australia like I I always get confused like half

The guys are one place half guys are in another I went to Australia but I never went to to WBA where they’re at now and I’ve never been to Perth so I guess yeah jealous of you guys racing at Perth Perth is like I wouldn’t like it’s not

Really a mini Alor because it’s not small itself but it races like Alora so it’s just like a it’s uh it’s just an awesome race and I think every race I’ve watched from down there this year has been incredible and uh and I me and Cory

Lion had races down there last year that were just like outstanding like it’s just uh it’s just a place it’s shaped right like it’s not perfect like you get to the top and it it kind of Shelfs off so like but but it’s shelf off in different spots so like you can’t just

Get up and just run the fence the whole race like it gets Technical and it gets slick it takes Rubber and spots it takes doesn’t take rubber in other spots like it’s a it’s a technical fun Racetrack and I think it shows that and obviously you go down there everything’s different

The tires are different it’s not cars that guys run all year so I think Rico is the only guy that’s probably in the same car that he ran this year and uh so it’s it’s fun to watch those races yeah obviously yeah I think any r ever gets F

When watching watching other races but uh but at the same time I I enjoy my my time at home and um yeah and I I love the Chili Bowl so get to do the Chili Bowl again this year especially with the um a team that had great success this

This whole season obv they’ve got a lot of momentum themselves coming into to chili bow and you know hopefully we we can do our job as as drivers to to not let them down so I didn’t know but last chili bow they’re on a different tire

Than the tire they’re on all season and then that tire they’re on all season is what gets run at Chili Bowl as well so I mean that gives me even more confidence uh talking with absolutely the guys working on it because now you know Logan C and Swindell maybe have a lot of

Confidence on what they got going on but it’s a different tire and it’s going to be a learning curve and when you’re only a one or twocc car team right it’s it’s hard to to learn that at a fast pace because there’s just no track time here

At Chili Bowl and you don’t have time to screw around so I’m excited to be in the race of Champions I believe I’m in and I believe you are as well and I believe Pickins is as well I think um yeah I’m not sure I don’t know if Pickins is or

Not but he’s we’re the ones that need the laughs picks runs a all the time so um but either way yeah it’s a yeah that going to the sv3 this year at chville I think um yeah it gives me a lot of confidence because obviously this

Is what the you know Advocates ran out all year um obvious I have a little of experience running midet stuff on SP 3s and um yeah I feel like guys you know had a package around the the Rd stuff and inside the building and yeah the

Guys like like CV and and Swindell they they don’t run an out outdoor car right so but at the same time you have a a great race driver like Logan and a guy that’s won probably more times than anybody inside that building with Kevin you know working on it like they’re

They’re they’re going to figure it out right yeah no it’s uh it’s be fun it’ be interesting to see uh you know kind of what happens and because obviously there there’s you you can run different offset Wheels to then you run outside so be interesting to see if guys run you know

The The Wider Wheels with the S sp3 or they stay on their nails narrow stuff from outside and um you know kind of kind of go from there I think you’ll see a lot of lot of different stuff this year and um you know hopefully a different uh different kind of style of

Racing at CH this year maybe yeah for sure and I feel like The Wider wheel probably less Tippy but less side bite do you want the side bite or yeah especially and the SP sp3 is a lot harder tire than the the Rd stuff so at

Least a lot stiffer sidewall um so yeah it’ be be interesting to see um what what all comes about it so yeah that’s for sure so Austin Cox says excited to see Tyler back at scet for the scet Nationals who are you both excited to

See on each other’s series u i I’ll let you answer that first yeah I’m decided to go back to scet obviously I went there one time with uh with uh Paul and Kevin and the The Works limited 57 and me won one dirt cup um it’s got just a a

Tricky place and it I feel like it changes every time you go out there on the track right and um but I’m excited to go there and uh honestly for me on the high limit side I’m I’m excited for to race against Brad I think you know

He’s he’s been the mark of our sport right right for the last five years so I think that’s that’s what I’m most excited about is to to be able to get to race against a you know a a a five-time champion like like Brad yeah no doubt I

Guess for me um in each other series you know there there’s always you know hype on Young Drivers and they have flashes of greatness and stuff and I know Corey day is ultra talented and and can do it 100% um but does he want to do you have

That drive that fighting desire to fight night in and night out and give it your all every lap and you know not have that many bad nights like that’s what I’m excited to see because you know Ryan Tims and and Corey day and Zeb wise right like all these young kids coming

Through a lot of talent and it’s not easy that you know everybody thinks like you know I’m excited to see Brett marks as well you know Brett Mark struggle on the World of Outlaw tour went to a pick and choose schedule and kicked ass you

Know what I mean so now has he learned enough and know what to do to run a full length schedule and be consistent like he is now being that pick and choose now there’s pressure of points and uh Charters like everybody wants to be in the top five this year with the high

Limit like if you run six this year you’re pissed off like you know you want at least run top five this year so it’s going to be very interesting to see uh both of those guys are at the top of my list could Cory day night and night out

And then yeah that’s what I’m excited that’s that’s a good point I’m excited we’re going to find out a lot about Cory day as a race C driver this season I feel like and uh I think we I think we both know he’s he’s got the the talent

And the the everything it takes to to go do it and it’s uh but you know just as well as I do it it’s uh it’s on you to to make it happen right it’s you’re the only person that can um decide night in and night out how how good you’re going

To be and uh it’s different it’s be a lot different schedule for him but um I think he’s a competitor right and I’ve got to work with him a little bit he ran our car uh once last year the high Li race and he rank some stuff for

Us too and obviously he’s a he’s a smart race car driver and he’s a good race car driver it’s just uh yeah it’s a it’s a whole different ball game when you you go fulltime yeah no doubt I I think uh I like Corey and his dad and you know

Obviously Jason Myers has been there done that and and knows how to build a team and nois he’s been around a long time so I think they’re set up uh for Success right yeah you know but again it it’s it takes a different breed no matter if you have the talent or not

Some people choose that they don’t want to race 90 times a year right like y we’re going to find out and and I think he’s a great kid great driver and and he has the ability to do it so it’s just exciting to see is there going to be a

New guy in the mix consistently you know the sport changes there’s no Joey salana there’s no Craig dely you know like all these guys that used to win a lot of races they’re no longer in the sport so there’s got to be people to take their

Spots and you know he’s on that list yeah on the all side I’m excited to see C goo’s progression this year right like he I think he he ran a quiet fourth in points last year think had a slow start through the season then he was one of

The more more consistent guys throughout the year right and I think we both know he’s got the talent and and team behind him to go go have success so I think he he’s almost like my Dark Horse to compete with with you and and and Carson

And Sheldon on The you know the outlaw deal and uh so it’ be uh it’s going to be fun to watch both series man I think as a fan a spring c car fan this year if uh if you don’t enjoy most of the races then then I think we’re doing something

Wrong right and Y it’s just gonna be uh yeah be be a fun year yeah no doubt and then you you still you know got Donnie and Logan and I feel like Logan had an off year you know so we still have six guys that I think could legitimately

Still win the championship you know yeah like yeah you still have Donnie he’s won Kings Royal and Knox won Kings Royal last year in Knoxville the year before that like Donnie he’s still there man like it’s not like he it he’s he’s got it like he’s not he’s not going anywhere

Like he and he’s he’s still Donnie shots yeah for sure so we got Doug F uh here how much do you guys pay attention to other Sprint Car Series during your respective seasons um I definitely watch highlight videos like I’m not like one of those guys that

I’m like watching flow or watching dirt Vision while I’m racing to like see what’s going on but I’m a guy that after the night’s over or the next morning uh I’m checking highlights or see who won or checking Twitter and stuff like that but um you know I’ll keep up with the

Late model guys and and I’ll keep up with the allstars uh and you know that’s just kind of what I do you know some crew guys they always got to have the other race on their TV in the trailer yeah and maybe it’s a big event a big

Money event yeah I’ll definitely watch it a lot closer but I’m so like focused on what I got going on throughout the night like I don’t try to be on my phone ever throughout the night so that’s kind of where I’m I’d agree like yeah like

Usually if I’m watch if I watch another race that’s on the same night as us in a different series like I usually watch qualif just because as a fan I like watching qualif F so um I’ll do that and um but then yeah you’re just super super

Focused on what you have going on that night on your own own team and own race um yeah then you’ll watch highlights I think you it’s part of our job right to to keep up with you know other Racers and other series because you know you’re

Going to meet at some point right so you you have to keep up with what what other guys are doing how they race what they do when they race and it’s a you know part of our part of our job um to to do that right you like you got to keep tabs

On on guys and try to learn learn their tricks and secrets and you know hopefully capitalize them on on at some point yeah no doubt uh Mi Outdoorsman says Tyler thoughts on Butler last year so I’ve been taking flak for this I’ll let you answer the question because I’m

Not answering it but I went to Butler Michigan in like 2010 or 2011 uh with the all stars and man it was not a good racetrack then the facility was sketchy the lighting was terrible it was dustier than hell uh the front stretch was you know messed up um

There was a tree house on the backstretch in the trees you know it’s still there it’s still there cool but you know me talking smack as people ask me what my least favorite track was I said Butler Michigan and it’s no disrespect to it that’s just my opinion

And it was really crappy back then but to my understanding if they got new owners or what but but I believe they’ve put some money into the racetrack the facility is headed in the right direction and I’m all for I do not want to trash facilities that yeah are

Putting money into their facilities making it better for the racers making it better for the fans so you know I can’t I guess really have an honest opinion on Butler because I haven’t been there since uh the renovations yeah um yeah I think it was

Our race last year was was awesome um I think the complaint I think we all had as a group like as the allstars was was their lighting but I think we we kind of relayed that message to them and um and obviously I can’t speak what it was

Before because that was my first time there this year so I don’t know what it was like before but um this year was was I’m probably a little biased because I won but I thought it was a a great race and you can tell how much they they care

About it and uh I think that goes a long way into um you know making a track great and and um yeah they they were definitely open to you know all the things we had to say and um I think uh they’re going to continue to keep making

It better but yeah I’m excited to go back there um it was it was awesome it was packed like they don’t get a lot of um you know for 10 racing like that especially like an All-Star series or like we’re taking high limit there this

Year and uh it was awesome to see the the fans come out and and it was it was a a packed house and the race was great and uh yeah I think yeah like I like I said I can’t speak to it before but I think from what I heard before to to

Where we were last year I I I think their Leaps and Bounds better than where where it was when I think you ran it yep 104 uh Brett F says World of Outlaws and high limit are each going to tracks they haven’t been on the schedule for a while

Do any of the new 2024 tracks interest you more than others so I looked at the beginning of our schedule and there’s like four tracks I’ve never been to I have no idea what they look like like uh in this Oklahoma Texas area um so I mean

And that’s that’s new for you right because like yeah you’re used to go to the same PL like you know your schedule like you go boom boom boom boom and yeah now now you got some new tracks in the mix to to kind of change it up yeah so

So I don’t know about any of those tracks so I’m interested in all those and then sein’s Grove we don’t go to Port Royal which I’m bummed about but sein’s Grove last time I was there was URC days in probably like 2008 or something like that so um we ran one We

R we ran One race there this year and it uh I it was only my first race there but it was slick top to bottom you could run just about wherever so they’ve done a great job with that place too from the understanding from where it was before

Yep yeah I know you know that’s a good thing about Pennsylvania right now I feel like a lot of racetracks are putting money in facilities and trying to make them better and you know Lincoln’s done a pretty good job Port Royal’s done an amazing job you know

BFFs uh sein’s Grove um you know seems to be a lot of money involved you know now Williams Grove is finally doing some updates to the facility with the the bridge um you know hopefully they do more um I think they’re putting new dirt

On as well so I feel like uh you know Pennsylvania is probably one of the strongest States right now for people putting money back into their facilities yeah absolutely I think for me on our our schedule on the high limit I’m probably uh the track like I’m excited

To go to is uh red dirt and merer Oklahoma I think they’ like Co they had that race between ritell and and Larsson right it was just outstanding so I think um I’m excited to to go there um I ran a few times and every race we had

There was outstanding so I think it’s just kind of one of those places that no matter what they race on it’s just a place that puts on a good race so that’s probably the place I’m most excited to go to yeah for sure I’m excited to go back to

Tar you like ter yeah I like to it’s always been you know a track that takes a lot of balls but you know maybe I’m not known to be the biggest thrill seeker but a track that’s always suited me pretty well and I don’t know why but

It’s fun and the last time we were there with the Outlaws the track was really good and Slick I think you were there in the 57 I believe yeah it was slick it was slick technical you know that play could be really good or really bad but

Most of the time they get it pretty fun and and fun racing so uh Carter let’s get the high limit Outlaw um roster up see if he’s sleeping or not he’s probably searching the were were that boring Carter yeah yeah I guess so and while that he’s not pulling

That up he’s not listening very well but um I’m going to look up my glove uh deal see if anybody put in any more money or not because we’re gonna tell the who the winner is tonight Carter is not listening Carter if you are listening hopefully you will pull up the

Roster there we go there you go buddy let’s see I’m checking out I think it was Dana gravel before 900 that looks like it’s the highest so the gloves I’m giving away I won Devil’s bowl with I won I believe the learner race uh the high limit race

So pretty cool set of gloves and 100% of the proceeds and I’m just double-checking it looks like Dana gravel I believe is a cousin of mine uh they have won the gloves they were the highest bidder so I appreciate you Dana we’ll get your information and uh take care of it you

Could put that R you believe she’s a cousin or or you like you know she’s a cousin she’s a cousin like but like a distant cousin you sounded yeah you sounded unsure if she was actually your cousin or not yeah not first cousins I’m pretty sure I think

We’re second cousins yeah I don’t think gravel is a very common last name no no that’s for sure we’re all from the Northeast that’s for sure yep so Dana won it all right um so we got lson on there that’s asterisk and cap Henry but um man I was

Surprised um you know to see not really real surprised but Chris Windham doing it uh Justin peek um maybe Cory Eliason a little bit till I found out what was going on and they’re doing two teams Cory day I was surprised and then Tanner Thorson was the biggest surprise um yeah

I forgot about Tanner until just now but yeah that’s another guy that would is intriguing right to the to the roster because I think obviously we know he has the talent to do that obviously we don’t it’s a new team right so um be interesting to see what all they get I I

Would imagine he’ll have Lee lingren helping him like he’s had you know throughout most of his career right so um obviously I think he’ll be he’ll be good um it’s just yeah it’s just we it’s unknown right we don’t still know much about his team or or what they got going

On but I think obviously talent wise he’s a a good guy to have on there to to you know kind of throw extra Spice in there yeah no doubt let me do a little count here one two three four four five 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 really

14 guys that are are going to be racing for wins this year no doubt um yeah yeah I mean like you look at that list and well I think sprinker racing in general like we’re I was talking with with chrisopher bell the other day at the

Shootout like there for a while you like you turn on Outlaw show and you pretty much knew that Donnie was going to win right like y it was just it was part of it like that’s Donnie win 20 30 races a year and then like you had a 20 you had

A couple 20 win Seasons um you know Brad won 15 16 races and I feel like now in any series you run if you if you can win 10 races you’re that’s a that’s a good year right like that’s really good like I don’t think with the competition we

Have now I don’t think there’s G to be 20 win Seasons anymore in a series right I think you can win 20 races if you you know go around and not you know to a series but I don’t think like winning 20 races in high limit or the World of

Outlaws is I mean obviously you can do it but it’s it’s a lot harder than it used to be yeah yeah for sure um let’s see I’m sorry I I messed up with Dana but yes they are cousins of mine and uh I messed that up but uh Dana giving you

Crap Dana is a man as well Dana is not a girl so I know Dana from a quarter midgets that was a boy as well but it could be a unisex name but I’m terrible at names I see him once a year he goes to the races once a year and these

Concussions will mess your brain up so my mom corrected me on that so um so on the outlaw side you know if I count one two three four five six I I count six guys that can win any night right now now there’s some guys that you know

Could you know pop in and still win races but you know I hear when you go to Wisconsin the 17b is going to be tough to beat no doubt and that that’s the thing is that that’s probably the guy I’m most intrigued to see on the outlaw

Tour absolutely because he showed up to a couple Allstar weekends this year one week and he swept the weekend right like yeah Bill bogg’s a a good spring card driver and it’s just uh he just obviously you know like he’s R he ran the allstars for a couple years and last

Year he kind of went back to Ira and you know poked around at different places then you know I think for him he saw you know this is a good year to go go do the world of B law Series right and I feel

Like it’s a going to be a great fit for him and his program now I hear rumors that that buddy and you know potentially jmck are gonna join that world Outlaw tour and and I’m not sure but if they both join the World of Outlaw tour I think both rosters are extremely strong

And still absolutely uh you know if you tear these guys you know where do you put Casey Kane or some Jacob Allen you know in comparison to some like a j Mack or a buddy right like I think I think it’s hard to tear Sprint car drivers

Anymore man I think it’s so night to night like y like it’s uh I mean you can literally you can win one night and you can go miss the show the next night it’s just it’s how sprink car racing is right now and it’s I think that’s what makes

It the most intriguing right like you don’t like that’s I think that’s what makes it even harder to win a championship nowadays is like you have to be good every night like and it’s it’s uh it’s hard to do and um but that’s what at the same time that’s what

That’s what makes one a championships so special yeah no doubt it’s just ultra competitive and everybody’s equipment so close and people get on runs and yeah it’s going to be exciting I think BT series G have very strong roster so I think I think where’re everybody’s going

To be able to eat this year and there’s a lot more big paying races than there ever has been so I think uh you know it’s it’s really exciting to be a Sprint car driver yeah I think the driver fan owners I think uh yeah sprinker racing as a as a

Whole is an an outstanding spot and it’s just we got to do our jobs to keep it going in that direction yep Blake Dow says sunshine are you excited to run Davenport Iowa this year I’m I’m excited I’m excited to see how sprint cars do on it obviously the late models put on

Great races there the put on good shows there so um yeah I’m excited to go there it’s uh obviously place I don’t think any of us has ever been to before except maybe a couple guys in a or something so yeah um uh yeah it’s

Going to be cool I think uh yeah it’s I think it’s the right size shape everything to put on a good show and you know I honestly I think where where Sprint car racing is right now I think we could put ourselves in a parking lot

We’ll make a good race out of it so um it’s uh yeah that’s a that’s one of those place that’s a place I think that’s a midweek show I’m pretty sure um but yeah that’d be place I’m excited to go to for this year I’ve never been

There I don’t know what the track looks like so uh used to be a really well I think they might still have a a big track but uh but yeah they they kind of made another track kind of inside of it and that’s what they’ve been racing on

Lately is it a Fairgrounds yeah I maybe raced her one time with I bet you raced the big track yeah yeah it was not good back then I remember it was super Dusty it was a t it almost raced like a mile track like it was dirty dust Dusty um

You know just it it wasn’t good so I know they raced the late models there a lot and I think I watched a late model race the late models put on really good shows there like I think I don’t know it’s last year before but yeah they I

Remember watching race and they finished like in a dead heat it was a really good race yeah yeah for sure um let’s see Todd just came in here and threw in $499 uh he he ma he must have maxed out the chat so thank thanks Todd that’s uh hopefully my Christmas bonus

That I I’ll take I know mine’s in the mail Todd I I’ll just keep checking the mailbox s sadly freaking YouTube takes like 30 or 40% but hey I still appreciate it that that’s absolutely that’s that’s awesome that’s awesome um let’s see yeah this is an interesting topic Marie

Beasley says linkcn Speedways flagman quit I didn’t know he quit but I seen the rumors on that dirt tracker video they are now going to use electronic devices like they do in Australia how do you feel about this uh I mean I I mean to yeah to me I I think

Flagman is is part of the experience right as a fan um I think you know last week you know watching little kids flag like I think it’s just a it’s part of the whole thing being at the racetrack and the whole Fan Experience and things like that and you

Know as a as a driver I think you could probably go either way I think we we pay more attention to the race director in our years than than you know we watch obviously for the the white and the Checker and things like that but well some guys do Rico does it

Yeah uh but yeah as far as like yellows and reds and stuff we’re we’re pretty I think we’re all conditioned now to listen to our to our receiv receivers right and um so I think as far as the driver side of things and flagman I

Don’t want to say is not important but I think as a whole for our sport I think a flagman is important to uh just the whole experience I think you go to Every racetrack there’s at least one kid standing behind the flagman doing doing Flags right and I think you know it’s

Important to have have kids be excited to go to the track whether it’s to to go do the flags and just watch the flagman right um yeah I think there’s a a key aspect to that to to keep in you know the younger generation you know engaged

Into you know wanting to stick around and come to the sprinker races yeah no doubt my opinion on it is it’s a huge opportunity for some mess ups or some controversy or mistakes if you have a system that’s trained to do it the right way or whoever is going to be controlling those

Buttons you know how do you show the White Flag yeah do you have lap counter entering turn one and turn three you know how does that work and then is there a mistake on a yellow or a red um you know things like that because I

Believe at a lot of tracks the flagman is in charge of turning the lights yellow or red I think and maybe some tracks they’re not maybe that’s the race director or whoever the scorer is in the tower but I know old school there a lot

Of them are in the flag stand so all I could say is I’m not against it but you better be damn prepared to do a good job and try not to make a mistake or several mistakes because then that’s going to be the hottest topic talked about across

The country yeah yeah it’s uh yeah I would agree like uh you I’m I’m not for or against it I think but yeah that like if you’re going to do it you you better make sure it’s it’s ready to go and if not especially like if you’re the only

Place doing it like if it go one thing goes bad then you know you know you’re you’re the talk of the whole country right yeah who do you have to bounce things against like or help with or this is the protocols or this is what you do with this situation and that situation

And there’s going to be situations that come up that maybe you’ve never seen before and you have to make literally a split second decision so that’s the hard thing if there was 30 or 40 tracks doing this I think it’d be a little bit easier

But being the only one in America that I know of and maybe there’s others somewhere else but it’s definitely a risk maybe they tried to find a flagman or or they’re just showing respect to the flagman that was there for a long time I don’t really know um you know I don’t

Know the situation I just seen it on dirt tracker yeah yeah it’s like that’s I just followed a little bit on on on his stuff and then you know just kind of the banter people had on on Twitter about it but yeah it’s I don’t know be

Interesting to see um yeah I still I still think um you know flagman’s are I don’t know it’s part part of being at the racetrack right like that’s just it’s what you got my crew chief was one of those little kids his whole life watched his dad race he I guess brought his

Flags to the races and he’s swinging them around and that was his thing back in the day he wanted to be the flagger at Wayne County Speedway so you know somebody that touched his life was you know the local flagman or the flagman at Knoxville or whoever was the best right

He probably knew every Flagger name when he was a kid so I I believe at Tulsa there was a kid flagging every single race in the stands and they brought him down they pulled him down and he was able to flag in the infield so um and

That that kid’ll be a either be a a flagman later on but I guarantee he’s going to be a f for life right like I think it’s as part of the experience of being at the racetrack is is the flagman right and I think it’s a I guess a loss

Art for him I think you know I think flagman used to be a little bit different you know like they used to stand like for most races we right on the racetrack right just like at chili bow or something like that and then obviously as things evolve right you you

Put them in a safe spot and and and things like that but I don’t know it’ be interesting to see um I can’t I I don’t see it taken off I don’t see it you know going to to multiple racetracks in the in the near future yeah no doubt so I got another

One from Dutch 4625 and you know you don’t have to answer this fully if you don’t want but Tyler just curious what input or opinion if any NS had on your decision to commit to high limit which competes with a series they sponsor NOP they had uh no they uh

They’re they’re in full support of uh whatever we wanted to do if we wanted to go outla racing we could we could have gone and done that if we if we wanted to go run P of Fremont we or just go do whatever we wanted to do they’re they’re

A great partner for us that I think we’re going on our sixth year with them um they’re very supportive and anything we want to do and uh yeah they didn’t have any I know I know people you know get on there and talk whatever blah blah

Blah but yeah they had no influence on on what we did you know going high limit or Outlaw Racing like to me Lauren and Nas helped so many people and so many series and everything like it’d be one thing if Nas only sponsored the World of Outlaws and

That was it but they’re the title sponsor for The Midgets and they Sheldon and you and Windom and and the 17 car out in the west coast uh uh El as far as not want’s their name everywhere right so yeah they uh and they do a great job

Of doing that like I think when you think of of Grassroots dirt track racing right now you it it’s hard not to think of something that’s you know NOS isn’t involved in and uh it’s been cool to to be a part of that and um they like I

Said they’ve been a great partner for us I know they’ve been a great partner for multiple series you know including the Outlaws usack um they’re they’re involved with the shootout and chili bold you know these last couple weeks um they’re the title sponsor in Knoxville

Nationals um they do they do a lot uh you know for our sport you know you know obviously out in the public and a lot behind the scenes that people don’t even see so it’s a a great company and uh you know very honored and and uh to to be a

Part of you know a great company like that and um yeah obviously like like I said I think this is our six year with him and you know hopefully we got you know many more to go yeah no doubt I mean I I don’t know if it’s ever going

To happen and I know Lauren probably doesn’t want to happen but our sport is growing and Lauren spends and Nas spends so much in our sport that I mean how does a competitor not come in one day and sponsor against it’s like you know I know Sprint car racing is small scale

But there’s so much volume to it and obviously monster knows because NS is part monster and full throttle and those BRS but you know that all the other BRS are paying attention as well like when do we get viewed as a Supercross right because Supercross is big but it’s not

Big and they have multiple energy companies in there right and um you know I think you know I would think Lauren would take it as a you know as a good thing if a if a competitor came in because that means she’s doing her job right and yeah she she’s obviously like

When you like I said earlier when you think of you know dirt Shack racing NS is a part of that conversation when you think of Supercross you you think Monster Energy right so like she’s done a great job of you know making that a a

Huge you know when you think of you know dirt track it’s you think a non iny and uh yeah I’m I I’m honestly surprised that other companies haven’t come in but at the same time they they might you know want to uh try and compete right

And um yeah for us we we like just seeing NOS everywhere so less less competitors for us on the NOS indine Drink side is uh you know good for us yeah no doubt I mean but at the same time for for our sport I think it’s

Great it would be great to see you know other corporate companies come in and get involved yeah I mean we appreciate it they a lot of 20,000 win races NS is involved and obviously being the title sponsor Knoxville is a massive investment as well and uh if it wasn’t

For Nas right now I think that’s definitely our biggest sponsor in our sport and I I think we’re on the verge of you know Toyota’s being coming involved in our sport more not just with the midgets now you know Ford so I think we’re on the cusp of hopefully how we

Grew up with the world of all Sprint c car game you have you know Mopar was involved hopefully we maybe see Chevy back involved in our sport um and maybe just other bigger sponsors you know ingrasa Rand was huge you know for Stevie Smith and you know there’s a lot

Of big companies out there that I think would benefit from uh you know being involved in our sport I feel like we have a lot to offer and the vi the viewership with these streaming services and how much racing we do I feel like there’s definitely a lot of

Opportunity yeah I think uh I think I think it’s close I me I think I think the way our you know especially Wings sprank race and the way it’s growing I I think it’s going to be hard for you know companies to to look at it and you know

Not want to try and be involved especially with the way streaming is going and things like that I think we’re close to to getting you know back to you know having multiple teams with corporate sponsors on the side of the car and um yeah and I hope it goes that

Way I means that means we’re we’re doing some all the right things and you know when it when companies like that want to get involved it uh it yeah definitely like I said it means we’re doing the right thing to to keep growing our sport

For sure I’m going to flash up my a chil bowl ride what it’s going to look like I don’t know I don’t think you posted or this is kind of like a sell pH photo that I got from my from my sister but uh yeah yours going to look you know all

Nosed up but that’s what mine’s gonna look white and blue and uh I’m so yeah all the cards are GNA look pretty good and they they do a good job man everything they have I went to their shop here in India this is out in California where all the cars are right

Now but uh I went over to the shop before they say went out west and yeah and it’s uh you know just all nice stuff man they do they it the right way and um they’re obviously they’re hungry to to go and compete at the chili bow off the

You know coming off their usack National championship and um yeah so I’m excited and I don’t know if you’ve talked have you talked to Johnny coper much um I haven’t talked to Johnny much I talked to um the crew the the other crew guy I’m terrible at names but I

Talked to him much I’ve talked to Johnny a few times in person yeah we’re gonna yeah it’s a it’s a good group of people and uh I think I think that’s that’s half the battle when you walk in that building is doing it with people that

That you like to do it with and um it’s uh that’s like obviously I’ve never ran for anybody at Chile W um the last seven years except for Marshall so so so obviously like you have that connection with your team right it’s obviously always different going in there with a

Different team but you know luckily I’ve got to know Johnny over the past few years and um yeah just excited and uh Brent uh the the owner is uh a great person as well and got to know him over the past past few months and um it’s

Excited it’s uh we got great cars and um you know I feel like we had a good opportunity to go run well at chil wall yeah I feel I mean a lot of the top dogs are not there you know Logan Stevie and Tanner thoron are the previous winners

And they’re obviously still there and you got buddy and uh Justin Grant so still there’s going to be 20 30 guys still hard to win oh it’s not easy I mean obviously it’s a lot harder when k Rico and Christopher are there but it’s

Uh you got to have a lot of things go your way I mean I think like like everybody’s like oh you’re going to cherry pick as a toast shootout I didn’t even make one feature yeah I was gonna talk about that what the Hellen man like this the shootout shootout and chil

Bille are two very unique races as far as uh you know the the format and how things go like and like we showed up we we were a little off off off pace and and then on top of that we didn’t have think go our way like it’s not it’s not

Just simple as showing up and just winning right like it’s not there’s a lot of things that have to fall into place at the inside that building both weeks to to walk out of there with a golden driller yeah no doubt I seen you

Had a rough go and then I don’t know the wing or nwing and uh you slid that one guy and he slid you back in the last slot last corner you know you weren’t lifting he wasn’t lifting yeah it ended yeah it’s it’s how it goes man and like

Uh like I I probably squeezed him he didn’t know my motor wasn’t running like but and obviously like I’m like it’s all passing points in there right so you’re you’re fighting through your life you for every spot and there’s 400 almost 400 cars in a couple to classes so like

You know one spot makes a big difference and um my motor was running and he slid me I slid him back probably squeezed him and then he he made sure I wasn’t gonna beat him to the line the next lap so um but it’s it’s it’s how it goes man it’s

Sh I’ve been on I’ve been on both ends of that that spectrum and that building and yeah just I was on the you know the you know the the end you didn’t want to be on at at you know last week but it’s how it goes I like supporting the event

And you know I got to um you know work with Christopher I kind of grew up racing micers with him so to kind of go back there and um get to do that with him was a lot of fun and um yeah obviously it wasn’t the week we wanted but it’s still uh

It uh it was it was a fun week yeah that’s cool all right we’re going to wrap it up with questions and then we’ll let you go because I got a 650 a. flight tomorrow uh Stacy Martin says we are making our first trip to Knoxville Nationals this year will each of you

Tell me must try food or drink to try I mean I think you and me agree maybe but Dingus Chuck Norris I mean I don’t know for whatever reason it’s like famous there yeah I think I mean you have to go to Dingus for sure like you can’t not go

There and then I think for food you have to get Hawaiian Grill yep yep ha Grill I at least to get get twice um and then there’s a couple good spots but for some reason I’m not from that area or the Midwest where pork tenderloins are really popular there not where I’m from

But I like to have a pork tenderloin every once in a while well then there’s I think it’s called catman’s it’s in the Dingus parking lot now um they got just good good good like whole like I think it’s almost buff faed sty if I remember

Right but they got a uh a good selection there and then and they they have three they got three Mexican restaurants in Knoxville now so and they’re all they’re all pretty good they they make the margarit is nice and strong just like you like him yeah downtown you know Mexican joint

That’s always been like the staple there now there’s a couple competitors and then there’s a deli in the downtown which is really good do you remember the name of it I don’t no but I just I just know it’s a deli like just I know I can

Tell you how to get there but I don’t remember the name of it yeah there’s one Deli down town that probably has the it’s probably the nicest like little spot they have in Knoxville in my opinion but um I still crave uh ribshack uh pulled pork uh once in a while I

Don’t like to go there every day but I’ll go there once during the week and get my fix and then then I’m good but uh yeah I think and then if you if you had never been to Pella go down to downtown Pella there’s a couple cool spots there

Um there’s like a coffee ice cream lunch spot that’s good there and then the Dutch Bakery yeah the Dutch Bakery you gotta try that um Adam Bunch says did you enjoy the Chateau chocolate milk at Lakeside you know again these concussions this is a long time ago but

Um I don’t know if I man I can’t remember I’ve tried so many chocolate milks so many people have brought me different chocolate milk so man I’m trying to think of Lakeside if multiple people brought me some or not but I’m sure it wasy you do the

Chocol and milk reviews don’t you yeah yeah people bring them to me everywhere so do you like ruers yeah that’s my that’s like top three for me I love ruers CH yeah ruers is good it’s hard to beat it John Powers um debating on when

I should take my boy to the track what age do you think is best for your first race big fan of you both thank you for what you do for the sport see you and Knoxville do you think he’s saying like watch a race or compete in a race uh I

Would I would assume watch I I would assume I mean I was two week me and my twin brother were two weeks old when we went to our first race so I’m probably the wrong person to ask but I I would say I would say anywhere from three to

Seven like because I think three you’re starting to comprehend a little bit you know and seven you’re definitely comprehending stuff but be at the age where you can ask a lot of questions yeah one thing you got to make sure your kids’s not scared to sound if they’re

Scared of how loud sprint cars are it’s probably not a good idea do they watch dirt Vision do they watch flow and watch all the races and all the drivers names that’s probably a good indication uh that they’re ready for it but I don’t know uh if you could put age

On it right like some kids are fast Learners some kids are slow Learners some kids are late bloomers and some kidss just flat out don’t like racing but if your kid is playing with cars every day loves race race card t-shirts and knows everybody’s names I don’t care

If he’s two or if he’s five he he’s ready yeah get him to the track yeah I I agree I don’t think there’s I don’t think there’s a right or wrong time to take a kid to this first race I think I think you just take him and you’re gonna

Find out pretty quick if he likes it or not and um if he doesn’t like it then I’d probably try it a little bit later yeah you know bring ear protection cuz it is scary the first time them hearing and you don’t want to blow them eard drums out Dennis stawinsky says Tyler

What was your car missing at Tulsa didn’t seem like you could get it rolling I’m thinking it was the driver yeah I I was I was getting ready to tell Christopher to change the four bolts that hold the seat in so um I don’t know we just uh we tried everything um just

Yeah just one of those weeks where you just uh you start out slow and it’s just kind of hard to dig out of a hole from there because you can’t like your first race is a heat race right so like it’s not like we felt okay in practice but you’re not racing

Anybody so you don’t really know if you’re actually good or not Y and then uh yeah you go race and you’re just a little off and then you’re kind of searching and then you get you get down One path and you go back where down this

Other past and you know by the time you you start to think you figure something out the week’s over so I don’t know we just uh we missed something but uh yeah I don’t know I I took CH real I do it again next year so um he’s he said he’s

Going to do some different stuff and we’ll we’ll probably go test a couple times to to go there you know hopefully with a a lot better uh intentions and results for you know the shootout next year Well I couldn’t tell you one thing that the car was missing it was just

Just kind of a combination of things I think I know Eric’s a really good mechanic and a good kid and um you know Brian Kem has been doing it forever micros are obviously newer to him but you know Christopher does not like to lose he’s probably

One of the worst sore losers I’ve ever met he just loves to win and he is not going to uh end on that note and Tulsa shootout in the chili bow race is extremely important to him so I know they’re gonna get back to work and yeah

I feel like Brian’s the same way he doesn’t like losing either obviously he’s been around sprinker Racing for a long time and he’s got a couple couple good young kids there that are driving for him right now and um I know I know they didn’t get the results they wanted

So they’re going to I know they’re going to work really hard to you know you know make themselves better I think it’s just uh it’s in their their nature and mindset to you know make sure that they that doesn’t happen again but yeah especially when they’ve got a couple of

Young good talented kids that that are there with them and um they don’t they don’t want to to to lose that for sure well Bob vanderbrink uh became a bronze member so I appreciate you Bob that’s a monthly thing there’s bronze BR gold and or bronze silver and gold um but thank

You Bob for becoming a member and that’s going to do it Tyler I appreciate you for coming on I said an hour it was an hour and 28 minutes um I know you said you’re driving tomorrow I’m flying in I think my seats bolted in but I’m going

To try to get comfy and feel good uh because I’m just not used to midgets there’s not a lot of extra space so no um that’s the thing like and you’re following me that’s like when we were talking earlier uh like I’m not the biggest guy in the world but in a

I’m a bigger guy so I’m kind of stuffed down in there I don’t know how Shane coddle stuff’s down in a it’s It’s gotta be terrible yeah but yeah now excited and uh I appreciate you having me on and uh thanks for everybody for watching and I’ll see you I’ll see you

Probably tomorrow night sometime all right buddy we’ll see you then and good luck in the 20124 season with the high limit and we’ll see a plenty I know we’ll probably race still 20 times plus absolutely so apprciate yep see you all right thank you all right Tyler Courtney

Everybody uh appreciate him for coming on I asked him last night and he said yes uh you know threw a schedule open for me and uh came on and did it so I appreciate it I know we’re gonna have uh Cody Jacobs and Ripper on at some point

When that will be I don’t know but uh really excited you know you saw Todd throwing that big donation here and he watches every show along with family and um I feel like we’re trying to do a lot of cool things in the sport uh and Todd

Is in a position to do a lot of unique things in this Sport and create big events and he’s going to come on the show here this year don’t know exactly what week it’s going to be but he’s going to come on with a couple other uh popular people and talk about the

Business side of stuff and really looking forward to that episode to get his perspective because you know lately you’ve been hearing a lot of drivers perspectives you know we had a couple media guys here uh but it’s good to get the perspectives of owners or track owners or track promoters um crew chiefs

Um stuff like that so uh really looking forward to that so I think we got a couple awesome guests moving forward obviously we’re not going to have a show next week during Chili Bowl because I’ll be busy and during the middle of that week I’ll be flying to My Race shop to

Get fitted in the cars for 2024 so my uh week is super packed so we’re just going to finish off by thanking our sponsors Mar’s metal fabrication um Marlo’s metal fabricating I mess it up every time Donnie don’t kill me um do Pennsylvania need any metal work uh those guys made us nozzle

Guards uh they’ll make you whatever you need they help a lot of local Sprint car guys out lak home retreats in Wisconsin right around the Wilmont Wisconsin area check them out if you want a lak home uh Airbnb weekend getaway check out lak home Retreats and we got to thank

Everything that Todd’s doing this year the first big race of the schedule is the high Bank hustle 100,000 to win on the 20th of June and then the 22nd 250,000 to win High Bank Nationals four days in a row at houet really really big deal then we go to Jackson Nationals uh

For $225,000 to win and then the shootout $40,000 to win August 31st to September 1st so lot of money to be had this year guys appreciate everything he’s doing for the sport him giving me a quality ride and uh yeah that’s going to do it I got a 650 a.m. flight tomorrow

Morning I’m GNA take my vitamins I’m GNA get a little bit of sleep and we’ll see you guys at the Chili Bowl practice Sunday race the Champions Monday my prelim night is Tuesday then I’ll be flying to my shop like I said and then hopefully I’m in that a main Saturday

Appreciate you guys Happy New Year we’ll talk to you next time peace out Dude I did this so bad we don’t want to look like to your crew chief here yeah we don’t want to look like we’re soft is it is it you or the car oh Yeah D The

  1. Can I donate to the breast cancer person, I don’t care if I win anything I would just like to help a person in need

  2. I think two car teams should split the series like Shark. For Roth, McFadden to WOO and Buddy to HL. At the end of the year, the team will have very granular details about expenses, winnings, miles driven etc. to be able to compare and then choose the better series.

  3. Come on DAVID, every other sentence you say NO doubt man. Not trying to be rude but i could only watch not even half this Segment due to NO DOUBT every other word brother need to switch it up with word choice man was giving me a headache bro. Tyler you did awesome brother was not because of you. The 21 half minutes I watched loved what I was watching. Need to bleet the NO DOUBT out just like it’s a Swear word!!
