Hey golf people I’m out on course with a brand new set of irons I mean brand new they just came in the mail on order from Stu and his father Jeff in Arizona these are The Malt B ts1 IMS this is a players iron it looks a heck of a lot like that

Kirkland Signature iron that I just tried and I wanted to see if we could find a set of irons that would outperform those Kirklands and maybe even be a little bit cheaper I think these ones just might be the ticket we’re out here at carolwood Country Club

And I’m going to put to the test over nine holes of golf my over under is going to be plus or minus two and if we can shoot that plus two or better we’ll know these clubs pass the test first let’s take a look at them let’s first

Take a look here at the 7even iron it’s the happy medium in any bag as you can see this is one beautiful Club if you want to know about the Top Line well that top Line’s a little thicker of course than a blade would be but in

Terms of Offset you can see very minimal very similar to the Kirkland Signature clubs you saw me review you same thing with the sole very narrow now the IM in ts1 IM stands for injected muscle it looks like a muscle back but it’s actually injected with a resin that’s

Going to give you a little bit more forgiveness it’s going to give you some great feel and it could lead to more distance we’ll find out you can see there’s a little tungsten weight there placed at the back I have not seen or heard if that’s a progressive tungsten

Weight but there’s not one at the toe most of these clubs will have one at the toe including the Kirkland Signature this one doesn’t it has it back here as you can see forged the this has a maraging forged face we’ll talk about that later in the video but it does feel

Very very nice at least my swings at the range so far can’t wait to try it on the course here I like the understated logo there the badging is minimal love that here’s a look at the gap wedge in this set now it’s interesting that they

Include a gap wedge I took my gap wedge out of the bag here today that is nice they make these heads in three all the way to Gap wge that is what nine clubs that are available it’s nice nice to have options I think for me this Gap

Wige is a little thick I prefer my vogi probably at least in terms of looks but we’ll see on course how it feels but if I was going to order this set probably four through pitching wedge would be the way I would do it and here’s a look at

The 4r and you probably want to see this down at a dress you can see it’s got a bigger Top Line than a blade would but look at that offset not much not much at all and going to be very similar to those Kirkland signatures in terms of

Offset at least and in terms of overall profile pretty similar to those Kirkland signatures that you saw me hit a couple of weeks ago now the great thing about Mal is you can have these set up any way you like it plenty of customization options and we’re going to talk a little

Bit more about that later here in the show just an absolutely beautiful set of clubs I can’t wait to try them out let’s get to work hey future gab here we’re giving away a driver when we hit 70,000 subscribers so I’ve got a link down in

The description if you want to join the contest and make sure you hit that subscribe button too all right we’ve got 128 wind is in our face so I’m actually going to take a little extra Club here we’re going to go nine iron which is probably more than I

Need but first swing of the day you can see we’ve got water short right got a bunker on the left but that should hopefully not be in play let’s see how we do we’re in the rough but the LIE is actually a great one wo that’s really high in the

Air and I think I might have gone long a lot more pop to that than I would have expected honestly and I hit that really good the feel and the sound of these things I noticed down on the Range it’s a thuy sound to it in your ear and

In terms of feel when you hit them in the middle man they feel so incredibly buttery but even on some off-center hits that I had there on the Range I got to say the ones I hit a little bit thin or a little bit towards the toe I didn’t

Feel that vibration you normally feel on of a club when you m hit it that ball was going right at the pin and we had more Club in our hands so I’m not going to be too displeased that we’re off the green here chipping on but seemingly

These things have a lot of pop and we’re going to talk about Lofts here in just a second let’s see if I can get up and down though I’m way back here I’m 15 yards past the pin that was surprising love to get one close here go come on

Oh okay just made the green took kind of a weird hop there On The Fringe little uphill putt here got to think it’s breaking towards the water so maybe just a little left to right I hit it where I wanted it and it just didn’t break until the after the

Hole so bogy there to start and that’s a little disappointing but we’re not blaming that one on the irons and if I can hit it like I just hit that one I think we’re going to go low today all right let’s talk lofs I’ve got it up on

Your screen here but as you can see at the pitching wedge 44° at the 7 iron 32 1/ 12° at the four iron you’ve got 22° so definitely some Modern lofted clubs here in terms of players irons you should have ample distance and we saw it there with the nine iron probably should

Hit pitching wed there but you live and learn and uh we’ve got a par 4 here that’s long so a little length of these irons will help us for sure all right we’ve got 167 again little wind in our face elevated green I’m going to take a

Little more Club here I’m going to go six iron oh man and these explode off the face really high trajectory and we’re up there that looks pin High to me these have to be some of the best feeling and sounding clubs that I’ve tried in this category they’re

Right up there with the tailor made p790s which I thought were really at the top the Titleist t200s no slouches either but i’ put these in that same conversation they are really really great feeling especially when you strike them in the middle like that shot we’ve

Got a really good chance here for birdie trying to find my pitch mark here with that six iron it’s right here so that only rolled out whoa four feet it rolled out four feet oo not that time m calls it a super maraging forged face and it’s supposed

To really add some ball speed to the club well I don’t know for sure cuz I don’t have my GC quad on here but I would say coming off the club face they’ve got some pop I’m going to go seven iron here we’ve got 158 pins in the middle again let’s attack oh

Yeah right online looked like it was coming right down the Smoke Stack it is long again they’re getting up in the air so high and it’s just it sounds so good if you’re someone like me who’s played a lot of forged irons in the past I’d say

You wouldn’t even skip a beat with these ts1 IMS they feel and sound like a blade top Line’s just a smidge thicker up top than a blade would be but not by much they hide that foam filled cavity very very well and in terms of offset there’s

Very little they look like a blade really similar to those Kirkland Signature irons that you saw me review and very similar of course to the p790s I only rolled out two and a half three ft there maximum so we’re getting great stopping power from these things 17 ft

Here oh I’d love to make one come on oh you know what I say when we start hitting irons like I’m hitting these ones it’s only a matter of time before the birdies start going on the scorecard now another thing I really loved about the Maltby experience with Golf Works is

That you can order the irons to your custom specs and they will build them for no extra charge to make them as personal as they can be for you so obviously you can adjust the shaft you can put something different in these things you can adjust the line in the

Loft but in addition you can order these clubs like St did and he actually chose the lengths custom and how those lengths were distributed throughout the set so he added a/ an inch of length to this set but he did that in 38 of an inch

Increments to make the set a little bit more playable for him you can see here in the Box they followed his instructions and that’s amazing that you can get that level of customization you’re certainly not going to get anything like that from most directed consumer clubs and definitely not the

Kirkland Signature clubs all right par 4 here it’s a shorter hole but this wind’s going to make it longer little dog leg right just got to get us in position now I definitely have some grass that’s going to be behind this ball but the sole of these clubs if you can see is

Pretty narrow very similar to a blade club and so it’s going to cut through this rough a lot better than one of these cavity back irons and that’s why you get a set of these foam filled Hollow bodyi blade looking irons I hit that one with just a little bit of

A fade and man it’s really cooking we’re going to have another chip on our hands but that club did exactly what I wanted it to do with that left to right movement again distance was more than ample let’s see if we can do a little better than that first hole this is

Definitely an easier shot go go go go go go okay we’re going to have to make a tough par putt again same length putt about 7even ft pulled that one oh the short game is letting me down letting me down we’re too over so we got to make up some

Strokes and we better do it quickly if we’re going to make that over under we’re right on the bubble r five about 505 yards so this is the time to do it all right we’re 285 o from the green so I’m just laying up now here is the

Four iron and so you get a little look at that there it is it’s not a butter knife it’s got a little extra up top there but not a lot of offset again these clubs are definitely going to be for you lower handicap players but let’s see how it performs

It’s the toughest Club to hit little bit of an UPS slope here let’s see how we do oh yes that is nice that’s right in position on that shot there I didn’t quite make the center of the club but again I didn’t get that reverberation of that vibration which

You normally get from a 4 ey when you don’t hit it right this is the club that was missing in the Kirkland Signature set it’s a gap wedge and that would have been a really nice addition making that an 8piece set and really filling the Gap

A little bit better for their wedge set which starts at 52° this is a 48° gap wedge oh it felt really good distance is great little right of the hole that stopped on a dime but we’ve got a birdie putt just continue to be impressed by

Not only the distance I’m getting out of these things but the sound and feel at impact and the height that these clubs are getting it’s really something special I got to say I know I said it a couple times already but indistinguishable between this club and

A lot of blades out there great distance control there just absolutely excellent we’ve got an uphill putt very makeable again right to left and we’re due aren’t we come on break come on we’re getting the opportunities we’re going to convert the only two mishaps we’ve got on our scorecard are those two

Bogeys where we missed the green really CU I Mis clubbed on the first hole and I underestimated how workable these clubs would be on the fourth hole so all in all right now I’ve got nothing bad to say about these clubs at all and our score should be better I think it will

Get better though cuz we’re going to start making some putts bird this whole last time I played it so why not do it again huh all right we’ve got 120 here but I’m going to go gap wedge again because the wind has now shifted as we’ve turned

Here on the course we’ve got it a little bit with us now I’d say kind of a crosswind but with us a little bit let’s see if we can get tight with this gap wedge oh gosh it felt so good I lost it in the

Sun I just have to imagine it’s up there you probably see the shot Trace I don’t know where it’s at but we’re going to find out every time I swing one of these clubs it feels better to me these got to be some of the best players distance irons I’ve ever felt

Baron and we did make the green we’ve got a little long longer putt than I wanted but we do have a birdie putt so let’s try to drop one we came up probably 5 yard short there so I’ll say I hit that 115 the wind definitely kind

Of died down as you can see that flag’s not moving up here so it wasn’t as behind me as I thought good distance though for a gap wedge come on oh there’s all this junk on the Green from the trees here so I kind of just hit that one in prey and we

Made another par still I’m giving myself plenty of opportunities and that’s all I can hope for with a set of irons we’ve got a par three here we’ve got 151 I’m going to go eight iron wind a little right to left a it’s good it’s a little left of the

Pin wind really took that one and I’d say we’re probably on the green Maybe possibly On The Fringe long again here hit that about 161 yards we did catch The Fringe and still putet this one though come on come on oh I got scared I got

Scared this has got a little room in it okay all right par five all right I got four iron back in hand on this par five we’re just laying up very impressive with just how easy it is for me to hit this four iron I don’t do great with four irons in

General but this one gets up in the air so easy the forgiveness in the trajectory is absolutely there with these irons it’s just so easy to hit the lower clubs in this bag the four five irons and I’d love to try the three iron even I would never normally think to

Carry a three iron but if it’s as easy as this four iron I would absolutely consider it just so you can see the distance on that 4 and I just hit here it is on top of my watch there you see 213 that’s the number and we’ve got 80

Yards there into this green it’s definitely an easier for iron to hit than the Kirkland Signature iron I seem to push that one a lot maybe to do with the shaft as well but this one is so much easier to hit okay here we go we’ve got 80 yards let’s knock one

Tight is it enough it is I think we’re going to have a really good crack at birdie here oh yeah best cracked birdie all day wasn’t meant to be with this putter I guess oh ah all right ninth hole last time for these irons to shine I think

They’ve performed so very well I’m going to rank these clubs here in just a minute after I hit this drive well I don’t think my driving has been so good today and certainly my short game has suffered as well and so for these clubs to be where they’re at

It tells you how well they performed but let’s break down my thoughts all right first category is going to be distance and in terms of distance I’m going to give these clubs a 4 and 1/2 out of five they are solid I was past the pin a few

Times here today and that doesn’t happen too often on this show as you probably know if you watch it in terms of forgiveness I’m also going to give these a 4 and 1 half out of five I didn’t lose a lot of distance on M hits and shots on

Places other than the center of the club still felt really good and the result was not too shabby four out of five for that one in terms of workability again very strong I’m giving this a four out of five you can move the ball left and right with ease you can control

Trajectory with these clubs really going to be useful for some of you lower handicappers out there in terms of Aesthetics I think you know what I’m going to say here I’m giving it the full five stars for Aesthetics these things look so clean and they sound and feel

Even better than they look excellent stuff here from Maltby in terms of value it’s got to be another five out of five for basically $66 a club customized to your liking it doesn’t get a whole lot better than that and it even comes in a little bit below the Kirkland Signature

Irons so here’s my total score for the Mal iron and yeah it’s a big one these things performed way above my expectations I would say they’re a better Club in the Kirkland Signature clubs and I’d say they perform right up there with anything on the market we’re

Talking all the big Brands tailor made Callaway Titleist all of them these things are just as good these irons did absolutely everything I expected out of them today and I really say it was my short game and driver that let us down that’s why we’re on the bubble we

Shouldn’t be we should be a lot better let’s see if you can come through for me one more time because I’ve got to work this ball left or right with a gap wedge I’m at 100 yards here you can see the red line but the pin’s back so it’s 105

True distance and it’s a little bit of an elevated green and I’ve got to kind of get it around these trees here so I’m playing it in the front of my stance hopefully we can move it just a little left to right well we’re going to have a putt at

It it’s longer than I wanted it to be did get a little bit of movement but not as much as I wanted but we got a putt we’ve got a putt let’s see if we can make It guys I enjoyed my time with these multi TSI 1M clubs so much thanks again to Jeff and Stu for letting me borrow these things I hope you’ll check them out what a great value what a great Club make sure to hit subscribe and I’ll catch you back here next time on another

Edition of let’s play through

  1. After adding a custom shaft, I paid $2,000 for my Mizuno irons. Worth it?? Not sure any longer but..I do love them..🏌️‍♂️

  2. How do you compare them to the Tacoma 101 and 101 T's as far as feel goes which one do you think feels better. Which one would you recommend out of the three considering price feel and everything else

  3. Awesome review Gabe! Glad you got a chance to use them and show the performance and value you get from Maltby. I noticed the distance was really good on my demo 7 iron as well. Can't wait to use my TS1-IM's in the spring.

  4. I am trying to decide if i want something traditional like these, or Cleveland Launcher XL Halo.

  5. New to your channel, but I've used Maltby irons for years. Enjoying your videos and glad to see the TS1-IM getting some love as it is special. I bought TM P770 back before these came out and the Maltby is just as good if not better for a LOT less. I would try the TS3 and TS4 irons as well if you have the time. They are different but no less special.

  6. I bought an 8 iron head in this set just to test. I built it up with a Modus 120 shaft in x flex. Compared to my ZX7 irons (bent 2 degrees weak) the TS1Ms are slightly lower spinning and are higher launching. If my ZX7s were stock lofts I suspect the spin would be basically the same. I do like the increased launch of the TS1Ms though. Having owned P790s in the past (2019 model) I will say these are not as "hot", which in my opinion is good. There is a very slight click to these, but they are quite muted for a hollow body construction. Distance consistency is very good. If I were looking to build a new set these would be right up there.

  7. Thanks again gabe for putting Maltby out there for the golf world to know more about! Awesome work!

  8. I'd love to see the numbers these clubs provide..Will you please review these clubs on the launch monitor?

  9. FYI, according to the GolfWorks, the tungsten weight is internal, what they call "co-forged". They have a cutaway photo where you can see where the weight is.

  10. The set 4-PW,GW $529.99 not as cheap as the Kirklands, but comes with an extra club. Nice review with nice looking clubs.

  11. Maltbys are some of the best deals in golf. High quality heads and shafts at really good prices, at least half of what the name brands charge.

  12. I bought a set of customized Maltby KE-4 Tour irons about 10 years ago (they are a Golf Works brand I believe). The customer service was excellent. Glad to see this new head perform so well. B-T-W, I have played your course as well.

  13. i have been using maltby clubs since the late 80's. always thought they were the equal to anything on the market at a much lower price. the one drawback to them is their resale value. these are not the clubs for the person who like to trade and swap out sets. however if you want a quality high value club that you plan on playing for multible years malby equipment simply cannot be beat anywhere on the marketplace. give them a try, you wont be disappointed, leave the big brands to those that have more money than common sense.

  14. Nice one Gabe. Great that you can choose some changes with the Maltby irons. However, I still come back to the fact that you really need to understand your game to make your own requests instead of leaving it to the fitters once they have seen and recorded all stats to properly fit your individual clubs. My thoughts are the same with this gap wedge as it would fit with the Kirkland wedges better. I’d just need to drop an iron and start with a 5. 👍😎🇦🇺
