Personally I find way more precision with this method vs the modern technique. The modern technique might have a larger margin for error for beginners because you can hit it fat but also seems to make precision more difficult as well as requiring a perfect lie because the shallow attack causes the club to get snagged in the grass when in rough or in an imperfect lie.
