Whats in My Drawers Golf Talk is BACK from a 40th anniversary trip to the bourbon trail. We will be talking the trip , golf equipment fitting, repairs, opinions and what we can expect next year

We’re going to talk about surviving in a Bourbon Barrel we’re also going to talk about golf courses near The Bourbon Barrel and something new I’m already getting ready to test all next on what’s on my drawers golf Talk welcome back to MC Golf Shop Jim mcclear here and this is what’s my George golf talk why because old golf club makers and golf club Fitters are tremendous packrats and I’m no different it’s about what’s in my drawers in my shop we talk about Golf Club repairs

Golf Club fittings Golf Club reviews all so your scores can go low and as we’ve been told by a customer that said he said I said it he said I said he said she said I said it that where customers become friends so you’re going to see

That as a tagline here going forward as well all right so numero Happy New Year to everybody hopefully everybody made it through the holiday safe didn’t have any too negative interactions with the new year after celebrating a New Year’s Eve uh and that’s what this one is about we

Celebrate our 40th anniversary with my lovely wife Mrs MC goof I love her very much you there we go so now I can say anything I want going forward and uh and uh and it’s been a you know and we also crested 35,000 subscribers now that is awesome in its

Own right I’d like to see us gain a little bit more traction and a lot of the LA slowing down has been my fault for the last three or four months I’ve just been kind of coasting so I hope to pick that up which will bring me to a uh

A a thing I’m going to show you here in just a little bit but I think we’re going to see and we’ll talk about about some of the new releases that are coming out in retrospect I can’t show any pictures but we can certainly talk about it all righty so surviving the Bourbon

Barrel all right so as you guys notice every time when we sit there I’m drinking something like this either scotch or bourbon okay and here as of late it’s been more bourbon because here in Southern Ohio uh the bourbon is far far far more prevalent than Scotch will

Ever become and and so as a thing I was just trying it out well it’s not bad you know and I don’t condone drinking it all the time this is my nightly thing and it’s not every night anyway but uh good enough so somebody tells me about The Bourbon

Trail and I’m like oh that’s something new and turns out it’s only about three hours from the house and it starts in Louisville and finds its way into the Lexington area or near the Lexington area certainly into Frankfurt and uh several several oh if we would have had the book that would

Have been cool the tour book passport book yep have it I know where’s it at no too far away anyway it has a uh unless you want to go get it but the no you have to go get it it won’t be done by th

And back I know it the uh well you anyway the uh the there’s a passport book or they call it a Founders tour book or whatever it has all the distilleries that are on the Bourbon Trail and what you do is you go visit and they stamp your book with a date and

Time and and that’s what they uh and something’s supposed to happen after I haven’t read it long enough to do it anyway for the 40th we figure we’ll stay a couple of days down there and uh see what it’s all about so uh the first day uh we go into Louisville and we

Visit the museum that’s there very cool by the way and our very first stop now what I’m going to give you is little Snippets they’re only one minute video so don’t panic uh at least on the on the on the distilleries when we get to the bourbon B barrels you’ll see but our

First day was mters now mters is a uh is a an aged company to be sure and in the middle of downtown they have a new building of which next year the product that they’ve been making in there should make it to the streets so let’s see what this one looks Like You Be Okay so mters was a uh you know that’s a small just a fraction of what they’re putting out right now and I’m not going to go into any great detail on these because if you have the interest you really should just go uh just to say

That in every one of these things the differences that will separate these companies is history is number one all right is uh that is history number two is the recipe for the corn rye wheat or or barley mixture and then three is the process of which they get it from

Point A to point B and then the storage and how they keep it stored so that they all have something different and this particular one it was basically storage using uh metal storage racks all right the second one went to because they’re two per day so so two per day and the

Second one was Angels Envy Angels Envy was is a relatively new company and they are only about seven blocks eight blocks away so and just right down the street there are a ton of these places on this area and this is where we got to pour

Our own as you’re going to see Mrs McGolf in Action I get the trash every time she does I do do I do look at that is that pretty All Okay so on that one when you pour your own you get to label it and it comes off of that Barrel that you first saw and you you have to put the labels on by law and and serialize each bottle as they come off so they have a log of where it

Went then you get to the cool part on this one is they give you those little angel wings as a decorative piece that goes on your bottle so uh it it was it’s actually a pretty cool experience there uh particularly when you put the correct serial number on the bottle instead of

The one that was your age but that outside of that it was actually pretty cool uh next is we had to go find our place to live for the next day I got to get credit Mrs McGolf quite a bit of this she she found these things and it’s

A relatively new uh setup where these guys have are uh just got started in 2023 I believe they’re fairly new and they’re from the from the Cincinnati area at least one of them is and I got to say it was very very comfortable but uh I’ll let you take a Look As you can see they’re spread out quite a bit and uh for your privacy they were uh very very cool and for as little as they look they were actually quite Spacious you see here’s a little community area where you have bonfires and Hammocks [Applause] All right so hopefully that gave you a bit of a feel what was going on now and I’m not being promoted by any of these things or any of these companies that we’re talking about by any shape of the imagination but I will say that staying in that Barrel is quite unique it’s

Still brand new it you get in there and you get that new it’s that new car or new new cabin feel uh everything worked fine everything all the lights worked uh once we figured out the the how the uh heat and air worked it it was pretty

Good we got in there and yeah it uh it was smoking hot when we got in there so we turned it off and then as the temperatures came down so did so did the temperature in the room obvious ly and then we figured out get the heat to

Right where we wanted it and uh it it worked out really really well and and the bed massively comfortable I got to tell you massively comfortable so if you guys are down that area and you’re looking for a getaway or something along that lines I would say I highly

Recommend them alrighty so day two day two and and where this is is about 20 minutes from everywhere on the trail except for Buffalo Trace and but you get into Bargetown and places where we went to eat now day two was prettyy cool we got to

Eat at a place called the Scout and Scholar definitely the best Smash Burger I’ve ever had in my life all right so the very first one we went to was maker Mark now again I’m not going to get into a lot of it but makers Mark’s campus is

Humongous if you were interested in pictures and artwork and things like that history you could and history you could spend an entire day just taking all of that in and seeing all the different pieces of artart let alone the bourbon so here we go with that One A Down up one there you go you done that before And I knew which way to take off when I was told how about that so Maker’s Mark was a really cool trip the guy tour guide’s name nickname was cornbread and uh and she was a heck of a treat it was funny just to get through it but

Again uh one one point of reference for Makers Mark this place went this is this place is like 25 miles past where Jesus lost his sandals all right it this thing is out there in The Boondocks and if you use your GPS you’re going to go from

Highway to byway to two lane to a single Lane where you’re dodging tree limbs and stuff and you come in the back way so you might want to keep that in mind when you’re when you’re going up there at least they paved it in its new roadway

Now so you can get through it all right the second one was uh for the day was will it this was kind of a more personal tour was more mom and pop as far as distilleries go uh really cool stuff I it really didn’t have any inclinations or pre-conceived ideas going into this

One as it uh all I saw was the first one or two bottles and I didn’t I really didn’t see too much in it until till we got through pardon me until we got through the tour so uh let’s see what this one has to [Applause] Hold [Applause] There all right so the the cool part about this one is in the in the in the middle of this or two3 way down you saw it look like a bag hanging from the rafters those are actually hams so they were naturally curing hams in this uh Ruck

House where all the bourbon is at and of course the the question comes up so you’re going to sell those so no what they do is they donate them uh to their their doctors because both the owners have had cancer scares and they they donate them to their doctors who have a

Charity to help against cancer and they said the last time they sold a ham it went for $5,000 now these aren’t the little hams you get in the Kroger or that little bitty store these are the fullon monster hams so there’s a lot going on with that

But it was really cool that you could go up there and you could see them while they were in there and so that was really cool now in this part particular one we got there early as we did in all of them but we walked in there and said

Hey I’m an hour early uh just wondering if it’s okay to look around they and they said hey you want to take off now we said well sure so Robin came out and we jumped in this tour and next thing you know we were because they said they

Had plenty of room and next thing you know we’re too heavy well as we’re checking out buying our our bourbon which that’s what this is this is Bargetown uh this is called Bargetown bonded Bond means 100% exactly made in Kentucky bourbon and and you can only

Get it out of you going to get out of Kentucky the bonded stuff that’s all that means anyway the uh they were you could we could hear them talking about well we’re missing the two from their anniversary trip and we turned around and said well that’s probably us and

They said oh well come with us and they took us back into the tasting room and they had an extra special bottle of of Willet that was over 7even years years old and in a really cool black ceramic bottle and uh we we’re able to take a

Small sip off of that one so they they are very very nice all right last two hopefully not too bored on this one again I’m not going into any of these too deep I just wanted to show you where we went through and the next one is

Buffalo Trace all right from a bourbon standpoint and I am not a connoisseur by any shape of the imagination but by Far and Away this one appears appears to be the most popular uh because of the variety of the line that they hold you know from Buffalo Trace and wellers and

All the other ones okay uh they’re they’re the ones that were on the other side of Frankfurt or just on the outskirts of Frankfurt and this thing is like going to Disneyland with this place it was and I’ve been describing it all day today as as you walk up in a sea of

Humanity you won’t see it but you probably the second screenshot the we are a half an hour before the thing opens and you know when you go to Disney or amusement parks and you’ve got to go back and forth and back and forth and back and forth in order to do that we

Were in row four and these rows were easily 50 yards long and we were in row four and it opened 10 minutes later we were heading to the door to get checked in so these guys are massively efficient don’t let them kid you and massively friendly [Applause] too there’s the C right There [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Okay so there was Blends and that was just the the what call the surface tour where they just talk about the surface stuff the this this place has a lot of history in that they the longest continuous distiller in the nation and that during prohibition they were operating because you could get

Prescriptions for bourbon oh my head hurts my shoulder eggs my dog itches funny that kind of stuff and you could get that uh you could get that and that’s how they survive through that particular area all those people that I I put in there they’re the people that

Have these uh Bourbons named after them uh eh Taylor Weller Blandon all these other ones that are going through there they’re all they’re all part of that history and uh now the the cool part about this is they have what’s called allocated bottles which means you can

Only go up there and every and purchase that particular model once every 90 days that’s just a safe some for everybody else to to actually protect the help protect the people that are way out of town from the in Towners because they could go there every day if they wanted

To and so it’s a pretty good idea and so we went in there we ended up getting some Eagle Rare which I’m told is very good I’ve got two bottles now and I have not opened them up yet obviously it’s only been a day but with through the

Tour apparently they sold out and at the end of the tour the the tour guide says well good news what’s that they ran out of Eagle Rare and I said what’s good about that and they said well they put in another bottle and it was wellers so

We went back downstairs got some wellers and got some more bourbon cream for Mrs McGolf so uh very friendly folks super nice fkks they and everybody knows exactly what they’re doing there uh very well-run operation all right the last one and then we’ll get into some golfing

Stuff was uh Bown bourbon not and and this is Bargetown bourbon the company not this particular product and Bargetown is a newer company in fact they’re probably the newest that was started by a tech Mogul but you know the the Gen Z of them all but needed a guy

That was 70 years old to help him get the business running as far as the process so it just goes new and old together to make this stuff uh definitely an interesting concept it’s very much more industrial than the other ones are more more you know have their

Hands in it in trial and error where this one’s more uh industrial and more uh you know science based so let’s see this One [Applause] [Applause] Okay so a lot of those pictures that we showed you were of barrels that probably won’t see you know the insides won’t see the line of day for at least another five years as something that they were saying is that they’re not going to release anything on their own that doesn’t uh

Get to the six-year Mark which is apparently The Sweet Spot of staying in the barrel now that’s a good thing in my opinion because the longer it stays there the the more that it’ll smooth out my opinion and and so they’ve got a lot so this year is the first year that they’ve

Had their own original they’ve got three kinds and so and but they have a lot of collaboration type bottles and what they would call Fusion bottles and they tell you on the side what they put in there in percentages all right so there it is so

From the from the Run of it uh basically what I found is that most of the Baseline stuff I did not like only because I I think it was the very first taste you take and it burns you out and then the rest of them Millow out as they

Go further I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing but it is what it is so hopefully you enjoyed that part of it uh again uh I would certainly if you wanted something unique I would certainly say uh the stand in the Bourbon Barrel was definitely unique it

Was very very nice very very clean very very comfortable the other part is is that I will give you this bit of advice if you’re interested in doing these and going on tours you want to do these things well in advance at least a month in advance some of these places fill up

Very quickly especially especially on the weekends the Friday Saturday Sundays you better get on it quick if you wanted to have a lot less hassle and talking with those people there Mondays and Tuesdays if you want to get in quick all right we’re all done on to the golf

Stuff finally all right so the thing I got is and if you see Jim got a mauno box but uh mauno box as we talked the the new models this year are going to be in the mauno Pro Line and they ought to say mauno Pro on them now because that’s

Where they went to no more MPS mauno Pro and the Lefty stuff uh 241 245 so yes finally for lefties the body Club is going to be available to lefties I think that’s a good idea I think that’s going to sell a lot of golf clubs uh the 241

Model is the blade they gave me a a five iron of all things that’s going to be tough to manage but the other ones will be fine and I got a highfly in here so uh I don’t know when the Embargo date is so I

Can’t show you those but what I can tell you is it’s not a it’s not a very far bar departure from the previous model just a little bit cleaner maybe and the fact that the 245 is versus the uh 243 or the 235 is that 235 two yeah 225 that’s what

225 uh is is left-handed but the the so’s a little cleaner maybe just a hair narrower and uh if all indications were there should be pretty soft so we’ve got that so this we are getting very very close to a lot of releases right the the beginning of

January uh 15th is normally another good date uh and normally when they they say oh they’re released but they’re probably not going to visit the doorsteps until uh February so if you guys are looking for new sticks take a deep breath watch what’s coming out because Callaway is

Coming out with some stuff you’ve already seen it on the Internet it’s called the the Paradigm smoke they’re really making the Paradigm small and making the smoke big uh a little bit more oh there’s a there’s a lot less going on on the club as far as busyness would con

Be concern um but they moved a little bit weight around uh I think the Paradigm driver did very very well this year and they just tweaked that in order to make it a little bit better now the thing that is going to be a real game game changer for Callaway in my opinion

Is that the Callaway smoke is going to be like the Paradigm only it’s going to be a cast product versus a forged product now when we talk about this it’s not going to be a rapid departure from the Paradigm in that what was forged was the

Face okay the it set into a a soft steel body but it the the face was forged so now they’re say they’re casting this thing now experience would show is that most average most average golfers even some better golfers if you put them up next to each other chances are you may

Not feel that all right however it’s going to be as strong it’s going to have a lot of the same characteristics it’s going to look a little bit uh easier to look at I guess than the blue and the gold that was on the Paradigm I thought

That was a very clean look so anybody wants to diss on the Paradigm look I don’t I don’t get it I thought it was a clean look this one looks a little bit more uh camouflages I would say but a neat look nevertheless and it’s going to be significantly less expensive and

There’s what there’s the big deal so you’re going to get all the performance characteristics with a lighter wall or with a lighter price tag and that’s going to carry in the irons I don’t know what it’s going to do in the hybrids just yet or the Fairway Woods I probably

Don’t see that lightening up as much as because the technology is virtually going to be equal but in the irons it’s going to be a pretty decent thing in the uh in Wilson the the D9 Forge is going to get replaced by a what was

That a D9 forged is going to be replaced by a Dina power forged so we’re calling it we are calling it Dina forged and and it looks to be again they’ve made a little they a lot of the same characteristics sticks just a little bit more trimmed up is the way to

Say it uh they’re going to have I think they’re having another wedge and they’re going to push into the upper end of the putter Market with some uh seriously Mill weight added type Putters and I was able to use a couple of them and as far

As when Dave my rep was here and uh they’re nice they’re very very nice so we’ll see something from there from the Srixon from the the Srixon Cleveland group you’re not going to see any change in the Shon because the mark 2s were just released last year but we’re going

To see is a change in the Cleveland product we don’t do hardly any of any with the Cleveland product save the wedges and they are releasing a we’ll call it a full-faced iron and uh it looks to be very comfortable and I’ve asked them to send

Me one so I can test it as well and of course they’re hybrid which is their bread and butter in the Cleveland line is a bit of a tweak up as well so that’s all the stuff that I know that’s going on for that uh hopefully you guys had uh uh we

Did a few repairs before leaving no builds of sets we got two sets coming around so we’ll be able to talk about that uh honestly and we were we’re into 605 I’m normally running a little longer uh I’d really like to talk about the urine review uh but we’ll go through

Some questions first and kind of sneak get in there uh and then see what we got all righty let’s go to the top oh before we get started here’s the perfect time if you would like and subscribe please like And subscribe get those thumbs up going tell your friends about it let

Them join us let them subscribe whatever that takes in order for uh for us to grow a little bit more let’s get you know a little bit more in a few thousand this year okay Matt Matt got 73 and 75 this last weekend nice very good all right as 2024 begins what did

You learn in 23 that can build into your game in 2024 he learned two short game shots that help well my putting that addition of my putter is what I’m going to take away from mine and then with golfing with Bob in the last one uh I’m

I’m probably gonna go back to the a midsize grip not a standard grip a midsize grip and he he caught something in the last two holes of the reason why I was pulling quite a bit so I’m going to be working on a bit of a a a finish

So if that works out man oh man he might be in trouble for a change all right John hi Matt I learned that I put much better with a center shaft putter with a little lighter weight nice lofted up my driver for a little more consistency and

Distance you’ll find John that a lot of people well let’s start with a putter you know it’s funny that I think this might be you know obviously it’s going to be the year of the irons because not a lot of these companies are going to come out with some explosive new driver

Right mauno is not going to do it shon’s not going to do it Wilson’s not going to do it you see obviously Callaway is going to do it with the smoke Taylor May is going to come out with something to compete against Callaway and Titus will be out there uh throwing something out

Just to say that they did it to get out in front of the public ping won’t do it I think because they released one last year so that’s how that works um so we’re going to see irons it’s going to be more inside the driver I think so

Irons maybe some hybrids and Putters and as we saw a Resurgence of or a surgence I guess not re of the lab of putter we saw it on tour and it gained some serious popularity so it’s because the thing works right so that’s a good one

Now as far as lofting up the driver uh even the pros saw that as being a helpful tool for them in order to get that carry that they like and that’s all awesome John Cherry happy New Year Jim and Robin and everyone hit that thumbs up thank you John you are the

Man and look at that Matt saying thank you John was Sharon will I learned to hit higher and lower chips and pitches getting to be very efficient around the greens oh we’re going to see some numbers that start with a six here pretty soon if he keeps it

Up Mr Kaufman how are you sir and Happy New Year to you Matt my short game is what normally saves my butt my dad taught me years ago that any club can be used for chipping he alternates between an 8 and a 58 and he experiments a bit actually John I

Think that’s cool uh I do I started eight iron uh I started an eight iron for uh like the pitch and run kind of shots and and normally end up in the a wedge and then end up into the same area that you’re at so very

Cool the hammer says happy New Year guys same to you sir alrighty Jack King Jack King says good afternoon happy New Year and happy anniversary to us thank you Jack I appreciate it did you get any snow you’re pretty much up there a little further north the sister got a

Light dusting so I’m just trying to figure out where it started and stopped Robin saying hi back Matt saying hello hi Robin congrats on the 35,000 35,000 was kind of cool we just looked up and oh hey look 35,000 so that was pretty neat Jim Anderson thank you for staying

Up uh hi Jim Robin new Happy New Year looks like the trips have been a blast excellent and they were they were a lot of fun we we went in there eyes wide open and it was you know of course they’re in the business of customer

Service but uh you get a real feeling of some you know genuine hey this is a lot of fun and and and stuff like that so you know for instance when we told him it was the 40th like at mters that the upstairs was a a a bar area that is

Pretty hard to get into and as we were putting on our coats and the lady says hey you’re going to go upstairs and we said I heard Robin anniversary oh and uh and and the lady goes and and she says why and the well the same lady goes

Aren’t you going upstairs and I said for what he says well we got you a seat reserved and that’s the reason why he saw the reservation we went to Angel’s envy and we told them about it they give me and Robin a little stick pen to put

Like on your collar or whatnot got a couple of those from them and just little you know little trinkets of stuff like that was all day long there’s Christ how you doing in a snowy Sweden I saw you’re still hitting the IR you’re you’re doing what was it was it some

Iron practice this time he doing pretty good Kent happy New Year guys congratulations 40 plus years Mr Mr McClary thank you sir I appreciate that 35 getting there hopefully it continues hit the thumbs up and share let’s get the MC golf up there thank you sir I appreciate that I would like to

See that get a little bit more too and being in the unique normally you got to be a 20y old kid that hits at 350 yards we’re kind of taking a slow approach route Jake cofin Yes Man probably be there around 11 oh to pick up his stuff

Nice very well very cool I think you’re going to enjoy him dude they turned out very good py you have the background on yeah I know I scheduled myself a training day in the shop to stay on top of the Tech equipment I don’t use often sounds like you had a great trip

You know that’s always a good year so that’s you know the beginning of the year is always a you got to get jazzed up for all the new stuff and checking out the things that kind of stuff and that’s we kind of I don’t necessarily do

What you’re going to do but I I certainly study the stuff and uh this year might have to go a little bit further Paul Van vet how are you Paul thank you sir same to you pass my Prime hello Jim Rob and fellow MC golf Landers I missed

I missed the five last five or six Mondays because life sometimes gets in the way well dude that’s life gets in the way and that’s more than all right that’s why they have a replay button at the end of this if you ever get that opportunity to do that there

Too and you hopefully you had a good New Year and Christmas John says great Matt great rounds Matt seeing you guys still playing makes me just a tad jealous well John you got to keep in mind that Matt plays in you know 30 40 degree weather I’m not surprised he didn’t have to

Remove a little snow Christ said he played his first nine holes around on a track man shot of 34 nice well done and as I just said he loves playing golf in 33° can you imagine what that golf Ball’s got to feel like when he hits it at

33° it’s got to be brutal and then when you get into where it’s warm that thing got to it’s got to be a totally different game and I’ve learned to love winter golf more than the spring and summer H I’m still in summer shorts here at 33

Degrees but you’re tough Ken you’re in that area where you’re you’re just you guys are tough over there man that’s what I was watching you do did some club path practice I was wondering what you were doing there uh when you were taking that swing it almost looked like you were really

Working hard on throwing it out a little bit more but look it looked like it was getting smoother very good three layers for me look at K oh my oh I think he’s not built for that I use the irons for my n Hole Round well look at you go I’ve seen that

Happen before CHR where guys will score remarkably better when they put the driver in the back uh happens quite a bit Matt saying awesome no they didn’t that’s pretty cool all right so you each get a bottle I hope you don’t try and sit on it too long drink

It enjoy super cool experience they were they were pz they were uh now when we go down there and the allocated ones you only get one and and uh some of the other ones they limited you to two you go to some of the areas we could have

Probably cleared a whole shelf off if we wanted to and that and but we did not but we figured the game plan was a minimum 12 and because six two one each that kind of thing however uh Buffalo Trace really threw us for the loop with the extra allocated

Bottles and the the uh the bourbon cream and the extra Buffalo Trace that we could get and Lord knows whatever else I could throw in that Doon basket but the uh we ended coming away what was it 22 so we are 10 over the number so if it’s

Worth doing it’s worth overdoing but we end up getting extra there we got a little extra at Willet uh we got a little extra at well we did there we really went over the top there oh MERS we got a couple extra there and so it just keeps piling

Up and then we also get those there you go the little rocks glass with their logos on them we got a couple of those so now we got a whole shelf load of that stuff as well yeah that’s a uh the casts are that’s how they do it

The uh it’s the difference is in almost every instance they’re the places where they put them are five stories tall on average and normally the first two stories or the first two lines are are where the where their Baseline models will come from because at the top is

Very very hot and so the the wood tends to release and it doesn’t it doesn’t uh cycle and that’s the idea of giving it its color giving its flavor is when the the barrel Cycles from hot to cold it tends to stay warmer up there when you

Get down in the middle they tend to cycle normal and that’s when you get your above average stuff and then the last two in the bottom it’s super duper slow they have to stay in there longer and then that becomes the more expensive stuff because it’s sitting on the shelf

More today I’m a golf live how to build a Bourbon Barrel you can live in no doubt right I’m just we’re kind of looking at uh the Bourbon Barrel to make a few uh decorative tables or opening to store the stuff because we need the

Room you have a brave oh you were Brave and get to enjoy that hot tub no uh won’t say that we got to enjoy the hot tub because now we thought about it both days that we were there and we thought yeah we’re going in not a problem it’s

All good because we were looking you know we jumped in the car checked the temperature 46 oh brilliant that’s not going to be a problem we’re there all good until we get there and the sun’s gone down and now it’s 38° if not cooler and the wind is howling and

Say probably not going to make that one so next time uh next time we’ll make it I’ve been crazy enough to get in hot tub well we thought it it wasn’t that we didn’t think about it now there was a a occupant two two barrels up that we saw

Him standing there and the he was he was sitting there as you can see was the head in the morning with all the steam rising up it was that was kind of funny I was almost going to right I was right tell me another one all right hey Robin you guys look

Like an excellent anniversary date Kudos do you guys you probably deserve it no we we really deserved it buddy but it gives us something to do now we have a place that we can go that is within Striking Distance and make one- day trips if we want to so this was

Just to get a good feeler out there uh at the end on our anniversary we got to eat at what was called The talit Inn uh you want to talk about a serious amount of History it goes back to the stage coach era and there’s there’s tons I

Won’t bore you the stories but the stories in there are are pretty impressive and it was good food too almost almost can’t Dave C say evening Jim and Robin hello there sir Jim is saying hi to you David defo happy New Year happy New Year’s to you

Sir David saying Happy New Year to us both and everyone very good Andrews happy New Year’s to you guys aha here we go golf question are axm shafts worth the cost uh yeah as a matter of fact I’m not even a Fuji dealer and I’ll tell you

That uh the so far so good in the ones that I’ve built the response from these things have been pretty impressive uh I don’t know what kind of fairy Des they’ve put on these things but uh you know every once in a while

What you do is you hit a you hit a mark with the way golf is trending for instance the recoils from us those hit a mark and just sent a company into orbit right they were a an incredibly good uh graphite shaft just like the axioms are now

Uh I haven’t seen although uh the tzs from Acra are getting a lot of the same kind of love but the AC the axioms are really there now the axioms are a little different in that uh they’re made to be tapered off I know I’ve talked about this before and

I’ve done videos so if you want to see them uh where I’ve built a few they’re they’re in the video library about the in fact I do talk about the axium shaft uh where you you cone them for uh uh for taper tip you don’t have to re

Them out they’re made to be shaped that way and then so you can cut them shape them frequency them and get all the get all the good pluses out of them from a builder standpoint so I would say yes how many barrels did Jim come back

With Robin well none but I wanted a few we did find the supplier though apparently there’s a couple called Midwest uh barrel company and they make the Lion Share and know I mean Lon share I mean a lot high percentage of basically all the barrels in for that

Area and places that also need it like wine factories you know some beer places that kind of stuff they’re very very uh they make a lot of barrels let’s put it that way and you can buy used ones from them all those picks making me no

For for oh for Ohio and Kentucky served my apprenticeship in that area missed the old buildings that were built with craftsmanship yeah wooden pipes oh wow that’s a good one yeah my mentor at work is from Bargetown well you can tell them you got to see part of it Bargetown is actually very

Cool uh no I’m not going to say that say Robin no I’m not even going to say it the uh the uh the Bargetown area you know is the my Kentucky Home the talit Inn uh a lot of things there a lot of history back and it dates back into the 1700s so

If you’re a history buff the U that would be a place to go and all these other the the distilleries have a ton of history in them just to learn on their own bourbon genius yeah oh we figured it out Rick and Frank are watching from

That Dean Walker what do you say sir I’m not a bourbon drinker but the Burbon Trail sounds like an interesting trip I toured the ca bardi distillery in Puerto Rico that would be cool I almost got on that one when I was there it was very informative really joining the free

Drinks after well there you go do you have all the fully carbon do you have the all full and carbon TM driver no I do not Andrew I’m not a I’m not a uh tailor distributor or dealer and so I don’t have it now uh I have worked on

Several for folks down in South Carolina and I did get to see the very first ones when they came through and that the PGA show and and that but it’s about a 5050 split on that one I would say what about the new staff models Jim they’re all looking nice especially the

Blades yes uh I didn’t get to see I I’m really liking if that new the cavity back model I didn’t they didn’t have one for me to see uh so I I hopefully they’re coming out with something like that but cuz that one just nowhere I am no where near the

Player for these clubs but because I’m a picker the the thinner Soul works for me so what I have to do is take these really what would be weak by today’s standards Jack them up about a degree or two and then I’m back to where I was and

I’ve done that and I gotta tell you the Wilson those the players cavities feel pretty dog on good what’ Robin say she’s not a bourbon taster but she enjoyed the tasting we have some for you shoot you an email well look at that all right John what’s he saying I

Have a mul shafts shaft deflection board can’t explain the cost oh can’t explain the cost of frequencer yes uh I started off with a deflection board John um it it it does the job in the most basic of functions all right what what you talk about what you get off into is

A tangent on uh what’s called strain gauges and how to measure the strain in a golf shaft versus the frequency that’s always been kind of the battle between Golf Club manufacturers or golf shaft manufacturers is that we measure frequency and and you have to know the

You have to know the profile of it to know how it’s going to respond in the frequency relationship so if you get something two models that are considered to be stiff and one is very butt stiff and the other one’s very butt soft they have two significantly different frequencies that’s because they’re

Supposed to all right and that because of the way that it’s measured much like how they used to measure uh core with the air gun on a golf ball versus contact time okay just different ways to get in the same spot but you had to know what you’re dealing with

Now from the deflection board and here’s one I don’t know where you could find it but if you start looking up uh not a homemade one uh not a deflection board but a homemade look up I think it’s called homemade shaft analyzer or homemade uh

Shaft strain gauge and what it is it’s a it’s a blueprint they sell you a blueprint and you put it together on yourself and there’s a lot of articulation going on but what you do is you take that same thing idea of the deflection board hopefully you’re using

The seven pound weight and and you go down there but what now it’s doing is it’ll strain you at the butt and you move it around and it strains it in the middle and you move it around it strains it at the tip so now instead of just

Having the one curve on the graph paper that you’ll have readings that you can write down in a like an Excel spreadsheet and then once you have that you can tell which ones are consistent and which ones are not and then you can trim to that particular uh you can trim

To that uh but by far in way the bin profile is archaic uh but it gets you to where you want to go if you’re trying to build for consistency now for all those of you guys don’t know what I’m talking about a deflection board and a mulp deflection

Board is about a what is it John about 18inch tall and about a three to well it’s got to hold on so it’s about a 4 foot board and at one end there’s a a piece of square channel that the butt of the shaft fits into and and this thing

Tilts just ever so slightly and the shaft goes all the way out to the other end and behind it there’s a sheet of graph paper what you do is you hang a seven pound weight on this thing which there’s the there’s the drawback John so

If you get these shafts these 50 g 40 G and sometimes 60 G shaft when you go to do this you’ll break the club all right but anyway the normal shaft you would hang it and the the shaft is obviously going to bend and what you do is you

Would take a line and you would draw this line that was the top of the shaft and you would Mark over the side three iron put the next one in four iron five iron and this if you’re doing it right you’re going to see this very similar

Curve okay very similar curve it’s just going to be a little shorter and that way you know if you’re doing something if something was very stiff it would be up high if was very low it would be down low yes I’ve worked with them and the strain gauge was I was

Getting ready to go there but the frequency machines came out life got easier and that’s where we’re at all righty what do you think about the mmt 80 shafts is it true stiff uh Bobby I think they probably play a little bit more Stout in in then stiff

But they’re not bad okay uh to say something is a true stiff in a shaft that’s kind of all on the opinion of the person holding the golf club and there will be a lot of golf shaft manufacturers out there that there is no standard so my stiff is just as good as

Anybody else’s ah all right so again the mmt is kind of in line with the ax just a different methodology of making the shaft there’s there’s definitely two methods to making these shafts now the mmt to me feel it it appears thinner right it appears thinner it’s not it

Just appears thinner I don’t know what if there’s something in the design I I get it uh and I’ve seen a lot of people have very good luck with the mmt uh and if you were considering in all these in that same category would be

Mmt axum and the TZ from ACA they’re all in that same network of styles where they they play a little probably a little stiffer than advertise because the butt section is a little stiffer and then it’s all depending on how how they softened it up as they went

Down what are your thoughts about puring irons and woods oh here we go all right hold on okay uh I’m going to get yelled at about this one I think there’s something to it all right is it a cure all end all for golf club making the answer to that is

No it is not well puring but so puring is the computerized or digital version of flow and or spine and flow all right and and so they both can go they’re both pretty much the same thing again puring is done with a machine right and it leaves a

Little line for you to assemble it on now depending on the person running the machine I have seen where the thing has been out 90 degrees where what that what I mean by that is when we go to when you go to do even on the puring if this is

The golf shaft and here’s the head sticking on it that the P normally you find it underneath so that it’s at six it’s at the 6:00 so they giving you alignment line so you’re not staring at a p on the grip but really it’s at the

12:00 so that it goes up and down now I have seen clubs where they’ve come in where that P was turned 90 degrees now it could have been asked for that and nobody knew right uh and but the thing with puring is when you put this club head

In you still have to there’s still that error okay okay that error of where it goes in could you be off a little bit yeah so what you and that’s the reason why I like flowing is that you you’re putting the club together as it sits you’re checking it you’re getting your

Your Flatline and then you’re putting a mark and those two marks once they’re lined up you you can’t you just can’t be off right so when I get ped shafts from people I will still put them in there to check the flow to make sure they’re

Online just so we get that last little bit in there uh do I think it I think it’s a i i again 50/50 I’ve get guys that wouldn’t know it if you hit them in the head with it and there’s other guys that won’t play a golf club without doing it

So if you feel that there’s a difference then there is no jailbreak in the new caway gym that’s all that’s that’s all about then so much for made so much made of jailbreak when they first released them uh I don’t know if they’re calling it jailbreak but that there’s something

Still behind it uh but I don’t know if they’re going to call it jailbreak uh there’s Timmy how you doing buddy s ping coming out with a Max 10 I do not know uh what I’ve been told by the other reps that come to see me the answer to

That was no but they’re not the Reps for Ping so take for all it’s worth well maybe they are Bill nen just received the perfect putting mat for Christmas I’m going to return it because I can’t get it to lay flat thinking about getting a birdie mat do

You know anything about them the only thing I know about them uh the birdie ball Matt is that golf spy like them Bill uh that’s all I know about him that they the guys like that it rolled pretty true uh and and that they liked it

That’s as much as information as I can give it to you now I saw it I’m not a fan of the color but I shouldn’t stop you from putting well uh I’m just surprised that the perfing mat won’t lay flat for you that’s that’s unfortunate saw travina sporting the lab dual Force

2.1 and was doing very well with it that Branding Iron freaking club man that thing is a monster uh and and of course we had him on here few episodes ago and uh you know he and I talked he said he asked me about that one he says what do you think

I said I can’t I can’t know and and I told him why he said well number one it looks like a branding iron and I said but two the more importantly so you know if the thing looked like it would had was springing legs and getting ready to

Attack me if it made putts I’d be fine with it uh but it had this uh because it’s an aluminum putter it had this Ting and that just absolutely annoyed me when I had some guys that were had them and I was playing with them it putted well but

That you know sound is a real thing and I just I just told him I said it was just too tingy and I think they know Wayne nothing hey happy anniversary the him and his wife just had their 50th it’s a long time wow well done buddy congrats I’ve been working on the

Paradigm triple diamond and can’t hit the center as we talked about possibly some ideas for other options tomorrow okie dokie the uh roll it the wrong way Bill leave it and then lay out and they flatten out eventually there you go good idea I’ve replayed about half of the

Monday programs and missed all the teach the teacher good good stuff yeah that was fun Matt and I spent a whole day putting taken apart and putting back together uh was a real learning experience for both of us it’s been ages since I’ve had to do any teaching and uh

Matt made it very easy for both of us sorry late everyone happy New Year you no problem Dan good thank you so very much uh Michael Moody how are you sir and Happy New Year to you well Dan’s got the birdie mat and he

Loves it and that’s a and and he’s a low handicapper so there’s there’s a very positive and Bill said he tried it didn’t work for me the matte had kinks in the rubber from the way it was wrapped ah a that’s Pro there you go okay good

Enough Jim when were you dipping the maker Mark the looked looked a little sloppy the Messier the better that’s what I say well it says when you were dipping the Makers Mark bottle the look it looked a little sloppy did you get to keep did you get to keep the ones you

Screwed up yeah they only gave us one brother you had to pay for that bottle and to put it in what we’re really going to do is apparently there’s if you guys like maker Mark out there we found a little bit of a secret you know that

That that red wax that’s in there uh they they go down to that certain depth and then they do the they pull it out turn it twice set it down and all that stuff starts running down the bottle well in some of these they call what’s called slam dunks where they shove the

Thing way down in there spin it around and it and it’s really really like the top of the bottle starts getting covered and they do one every so many hundreds and they set them on a special pallet when they dry then they go uh and they

Put them in various boxes so you could go in there and see maker Mark and the average person may not know it it’s just extra covered in goo it’s like finding a an Easter egg when you go to do that unicorn yeah unicorn hello oh that stinks mine went flat pretty

Quick yeah I think the perfect Po’s good oh tried heat I don’t know there’s Wayne Happ anniversary celebrated yep if you get a chance visit the Jack Daniels in Tennessee there we go fact uh of course my other in my other life over here we talk about emergency services and my uh fire

Services manager pulled up the there’s a Jack Daniels Fire Department apartment and the the truck they have there is super huge and it is super nice and of course everybody goes oh why can’t we have one of those say because we don’t work for Jack Daniels can’t have to get out of the

Heat gun is time to return it there you go never a cross word well I don’t know that wife I know married 50 years you you have to call them bill I think they think I would there there you go happy anniversary Jim and Robin yep

We did that one uh very interesting okay cool Bob apparently is watching who in South Carolina if you can say I live in upstate South Carolina uh where where’s the guy that we did all that work for that the uh swing surgeon guy where’s that at guy that we did the Taylor Made

Switches he’s down in I don’t know right now he’s in South Carolina switch Yeah remember the red white and blue one and then we we switched them the guy that’s the instructor that keeps sending his stuff up here Georgia oh Georgia Georgia yeah he’s far St Mountain he’s not far from

Stone Mountain the instructor well I’m sorry it’s in Georgia I thought it was in South Carolina wherever the Swing Swing surgeon is at I don’t know who swing surgeon is but I do okay all right hey Tim talking Ed yes he’s Georgia oh sorry Georgia St Mountain Mark Bor good evening sir been

Watching videos thanks for the repair doing these repairs no problem all right have you ever bent TM rocket blades TM told me only two degrees and they are correct Wayne Uh I wouldn’t go any more than that because TM is the rocket blades are a cast club and they’re very hard I’d be

Surprised if you got two out of them to be honest with you and the rocket balls is a multi-piece construction so when you get ready if you try to force a guy to go with three and it’s really fighting you there’s an opportunity for the face to

Go and and just sail right it will sail and we don’t want that so just think two next time bar go to cesos and the Rick house you know we like the the Rick house we we yeah we really contemplating that but I don’t think that they were open they

Were they remodeling or is that them I can’t recall I just know they were close yeah somebody was remodeling but we’re certainly going to be going back so yeah thank you and yes we’re going back uh Mike delvesco do people still back weight their clubs by putting a weighted plug

In the bud end of the shaft before gripping uh in some cases Mike they do uh they they’ll do that what they have now that’s one way of doing it you know a little plastic case slides down in there pour the weight that you want and then I

Imagine you glue it in and then you put the grip on now what what’s replaced that now is the uh what they call balance certified weights the other one is T something tour lock is tour lock and their prescribed weights of certain you know there’s several to choose from

From lightest to heaviest and they go back in there and they take a Allen key and the Allen key expands it out and it wedges it in there so that it’s easy removal for when you want to switch clubs or whatever Andrew K oh I know who you’re talking about in Colombia yes

Stone Mountain is a fun course that’s right bud that’s the one Stephen happy anniversary hope you enjoyed my old hometown of Louisville and the trip to the current area in Tennessee oh into my current area well hopefully so the in Louisville Steven we used to stop there on in March several

Years ago and several years in a row they had what was called the professional clubmaker Society the PCS and uh they would have a gathering there at the G house and that’s where the grip companies shaft companies head companies would all come for these Club makers because it was a a specific

Gathering it’s like a mini PGA show fun fact of Stone Mountain it puts fall towards the mountain it’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen okay very cool I got your golf ball from there yes you did how do the EMT blacks compared to the discontinued Elevate iron shafts sold the elevates

And love them had to hard step one time and then the magic on the uh and then Magic on the 200s uh I don’t think they’re the same dude uh the Mt blacks are going to be much more uh harsh than the elevates the elevates are

Kind of like a for lack of a better turn you have Dynamic gold and you used to have uh dite Golds right which were Dynamic Golds with a much friendlier tip the elevates are a more modern version of that and that’s the reason why everybody likes them because they’re a

Great it’s a great design the amts are more like a heavyduty version of the dgs that’s where I would get with it swing surge of Don Tran uh wherever that is well John Trahan yes but there was they had a bit of an issue and there’s a bit

Of a falling out and I think there was more than one swing surgeon too uh but you’re you’re not wrong down in Georgia was the golf doctor no that was a different guy too they played Snow Mountain several times last time the cart broke down on the backside so I

Called the police it was so hot no one picked up at the clubhouse 911 came through now that’s thinking ahead Andrew good job that was darling Kim and I got came down on the wrong side of the mountain all putts there we go all right hello Stephen up hey there’s cuz

How you doing T hope everything’s going okay there’s the CIS she’s on Hello thank you so very much we’re done and we got down to the bottom and we’re only 20 minutes over this time not too bad so okay guys so here we are the uh

Watches will be back on Monday next week not Tuesday unless we have some sort of got to haveit uh as I’m told for those of us in the US that’s the college football championship but it doesn’t start till later so don’t be afraid to stay on uh and hopefully we’ll have some more

Stuff for you I’m trying to do the year in review thing and it’s it’s getting we’ll have to really concentrate on that tomorrow as as always guys I appreciate it from all over the world yet again uh it has been absolute uh absolute fun no there’s

No doubt in my mind and hopefully you like what we talked about today don’t forget if you like that kind of stuff you can go visit you know do the research and go see them and uh as we see there’s lots of reviews coming our way and if there’s a question you have

On something you’d like to see a video don’t be afraid to send us email uh so that we can consider it in our game plan as always let’s see your scores go low and happy New Year
