Feels like two to me but uh take a look back at the bowl games y’all do you were you able to watch many of them over the uh two weeks there as much as I could Bear yeah the semi-finals of course but uh everything else I just yeah I think
We’ll Riff on this in a moment but the bowl games are just it’s it’s just so bad something’s got to change quickly well I consumed a lot of them Brian but that’s also because I like to gamble so that always makes the games better yes they were all interesting to me okay

Was good it was nail biting all the way and um too Heavenly uh you know I think either one of these teams could have represented well in the national championship on both of these games so um I’m pleased but uh you know I don’t need to wallow much more I’ve spent the
Last few days wallowing uh you see for our audio audience I am wearing Maze and blue today because I lost a little friendly bet with a fan a friend of mine who’s a Michigan fan so uh he I was isn’t going to put on a jersey but so
I’m wearing um amze and blue here but yeah it hurt I mean um would love to see Alabama have thrown at the end zone instead of quarterback draw but you know I think the better team won in that one if I’m being honest about it I think
Michigan uh was the better team at the line of scrimmage which is you know we did our picks um previously going into the semi-finals and I picked Alabama because I said what a lot of you know so-called experts believe that Alabama’s built for those kind of line of
Scrimmage games and that Michigan hadn’t seen a defensive line or an offensive line like Alabama’s but Michigan was the more physical team and that’s what kind of surprised me the most so I think even though Michigan made some big mistakes on special teams uh that kept Alabama in
It I think Michigan was kind of the better team had the better quarterback and and prevailed ultimately and so but I do want to show you um this little uh for our audio audience this yellow shirt I’m wearing is actually a a sloth on a bicycle which is this is me going into
2024 I’m I’m a sloth and I need I would thought that that was a wolverine but no that is indeed a SL sloth on a bicycle but yeah I thought like you said two great semi-final games and I still believe that would have been the right
Thing to do to put Florida State in I can’t say uh what would have happened if we had put Florida State in and you know then you wouldn’t have had all these opt outs you would have had four weeks to get Tate rodmaker ready with Florida State’s defense I think they could have
Given Michigan a good game too but you know it’s hard to argue with the result results though and uh and that’s really what it comes down to I think fsu’s bow finish um you know predictably awful after all those opt outs but you know I don’t know maybe I would have had a
Different feeling had they as you mentioned kind of you know went in there with a somewhat full cupboard minus Jordan Travis but I also think Georgia kind of made an exclamation point as to why maybe they deserved a chance to be in there too and they they had a handful
Of opt outs as well but I just I can’t wait for that 12 team playoff so as you look at uh this National Championship Showdown um you know I love it because it’s you know I I we’ve had you know SEC domination for years and I know that
Unbk love that but you know I think it’s nice to kind of reset the field a little bit have kind of an unusual cast of characters although Michigan has you know been in the the semi-finals here in recent years uh I love the contrast and styles you have you know a Washington
Team that is just you know big offense Big Time passing attack and aerial attack and uh against the Michigan team the this unrelenting defense and you know tough ground game game uh I love you know both of these kind of the coaches are kind of polar opposite in
Terms of how they come across at least to the media both of them are probably heading to the NFL here shortly um or at least in the next couple of years um but as I look at at how this kind of plays out it will be tough because I do think
That neither one of these teams has faced anything like what they’re about to face uh but you know I could pull a little bit you know when I look at Michigan’s running attack which it’s good it’s not it’s not excellent um it’s but it is pretty good um you know I saw
A Washington team beat an Oregon team that had a much better ground attack than than Michigan and uh they beat him twice you know Texas I think that they’re you know they’re pretty good defensively they’re not Michigan but we saw you know 37 points scored against
Them um in a big time moment so I just think you know you got you got a great Showdown here and I can’t wait to see how this plays out we’re going to have our pick segment coming up later on and we’ll kind of dive into what exactly we
Think is going to go down but uh I don’t know your thoughts on on the matchup I love again like you said the contrast in Styles number one offense in the country Washington versus number one defense and more importantly to me I think the number one pass defense that Michigan
Has that’s one they really got after jayen milro and that was the defensive line getting pressure um Washington’s offensive line better than Alabama’s I think it comes down to can they give penx just a couple of seconds to to unleash that Cannon of his and get the
Ball out to those Playmakers I know we’ll do our picks later in this this podcast but I I think that it if if uh Michigan can get the kind of pressure they got against Milo I don’t think they will I think Washington’s offensive line is better but also I think Michigan’s
Secondary is better than anything that Washington has faced and so and and you mentioned Michigan’s running game you’re not sure how strong it is I I think it is and I think we’re going to see I think it’s good I’m just saying I think that I think Washington has seen better
I mean I thought Oregon’s ground game was better than Washington’s um but you know that there’s other components you know Michigan strength is not their offense obviously yeah I mean they’re going to win by by beating you you know mercilessly defensively but I’m want to
See if they get how much they get JJ McCarthy’s legs involved we saw him come up with some huge plays at the end of that Alabama game and maybe that’s kind of an X Factor too it’s to me it all comes down to how can you bottle up
Michael penx can you can you rattle him he just seems so unrl you know a new word here in 2024 I like it uh but you know this guy he he rarely throws interceptions he has 10 sacks nine interceptions all season long I mean he his elusive in the pocket and just I
Mean even in that semi-final game I me there was so many throws that were just I mean they were just so pure like you could not have thrown that ball any better and even like when he’s like you know moving backwards or you know kind of navigating his way through the pocket
It’s not just like take a three-step dropping fire like I mean this guy on the move when he’s kind of you know I guess ad liing a little bit I mean he’s still throwing darts all over the field and so I’ve just seen it I’ve seen it consistently all season long
That if Michigan gives him just the slightest window I I just have a feeling this guy’s going to make it happen so you know Michigan that is their strength I mean they got I think they’re top 10 in sacks and interceptions in the nation I mean 33 sacks let’s see 16
Interceptions so yeah I mean that that’s that’s The Showdown to me it’s it’s how can you get Michael Pennock off his game because you know running back could be injured for that game for Washington and and if you know you could turn them this was my prediction last week was that you
Know that that I I thought Texas could make them one dimensional but I think even if you know if you do that and you you know eliminate the the ground game I still think penx is the issue my question to you is do you think the Heisman voters got it right because
When I watched this guy play last week and you know in the conference Championship game and really toward the tail end of the season it’s hard for me to find another player that means more not just to his team but you know that is a bigger like big time player in the
Big Time moments than Michael pennick yeah uh you know Jaden Daniels is he he’s athletic he’s put up good numbers but LSU is 10 and three and and I know it’s not the Heisman is not a team award but if if you lift your team to the highest highs and you’re there playing
In January that should account for something right I mean should we slide back the Heisman vote till after all the bowl games and after the the championship is done no I know it’s popular now to think that penx was robbed and should have gotten the Heisman but no I think the Heisman
Committee got it right I think we just I know it’s a shouldn’t always be a stats driven award but it largely is I don’t like trying to make it um the best player on the national championship team which is what it has been too many times
In often years I’m fine with LSU here’s my biggest thing is Daniels had you know passing numbers not quite okay fewer yards than pinnick but more touchdown passes fewer interceptions four four ints to pinck is nine but here’s my biggest thing is that Daniels used as legs to run for over
1100 yards he so he was really he was their entire offense and yeah he was the hardest guy to stop in college football I think a lot of people too reacting to this pinck performance which was outstanding against Texas I think we had a lot of casual football fans that were
Tuning into the semi-final game and there is an East Coast bias and so they probably hadn’t seen penx play a lot and they’re like oh this but you have to remember too that uh pennx disappeared in several games this season like they won one game where they scored zero
Offensive touchdowns there was a stress there about four games where he was inconsistent and he was off he wasn’t like he didn’t lead his team to Victory Every Game LSU won it’s because of Jaden Daniels so I think it was one of the easiest Heisman decisions in years that
They also lost three games you know yeah well they would have lost seven if not for Jen Daniels no I mean you yeah you sure you could say that but I mean my point is is that like there’s something yeah you’re not going to be perfect on
In every performance but I I do think that there is a team component so it’s not all or nothing it’s not yeah the best you know the best player on the national championship team I don’t want it to be voted on by that but I do think
It means a lot when you are clearly the best guy on one of the best teams in the nation and the reason you’re that good is not because you’re around a bunch of blue chippers not that not that you know Washington doesn’t have good players he
Has they have a great receiving core but I mean you just watch this guy play and it’s hard to argue with it and and I’ve been watching him all season so I think your East Coast bias that could have something to do with the Heisman vote
Too I mean us for as much as uh you know it has to do with people jumping on the bandwagon late but I don’t know I mean I I just don’t think you can make push the date of the Heisman back and because then it becomes let’s just call it a
Postseason MVP award but but don’t do that that’s what I’m saying I I think it take the full account of that player and the the full season into the picture and yes yeah but the guy who’s still the guy who’s still playing is going to have just the recency advantage I I just
Don’t think that’s the the best way to do it call it playoff MVP if you want to do it that way that’s why casual fans aren’t voting right in the Heisman so it’s people but there are a lot of actually there are way too many of Heisman voters there there should be
Educated voters I mean that if we want to redo the system then that’s what I’m I think that it should be the full Full Count of of what they’ve done the entire season and if you ignore what they’re doing here in the postseason and what they’re doing to to bring their team up
I just think you’re missing a big chunk of what what they’re all about I mean the winning Factor you know just the the the ability to lift your team um H I don’t know penx has it to me anyway so uh maybe uh to your point that would
Have incentivized Jaden Daniels to play in his bowl game if the Heisman were still on the line maybe he would have opt it out well you know a Yahoo article kind of echoed a lot of the sentiments that we recently brought up and what kind of changes need to be done to these
Bowl games in order to incentivize players from you know opting out I mean you had around 500 opt outs I would say probably 80 90% of that is transfer portal guys and so you know the the Yahoo article kind of pointed some of the things that we discussed in you know
Moving early signing date back moving transfer portal date back I think those are easy and and no brainer fixes they also talked about incentivizing bowl games I didn’t realize that the NCAA has actually they are the ones that are are blocking bowl games from offering nil
Deals to players so the NCAA would have to loosen its grip on that uh but to incentivize players players to to get a cut of some additional dough if they play in these bowl games and you know maybe even have it to where the winning team those those winnings that would
Traditionally go to the program will go to individual players as well I I think that makes sense because honestly Chris these bowl games some of them were so awful and it’s like what are we doing here I mean what why are we even playing these games the Orange Bowl fsu’s
Performance um that it’s a joke to me there’s no sense in playing the game who who were these games for who are they for just to get to get to get practice Reps for next year’s team is that what it’s all about you see the ratings for
That awful Orange Bowl 11 million people still watch that garbage that’s who it’s for it’s for TV contracts I’m not saying I’m not saying that’s what we want people are going to stop watching people will care less as they see that list that ticker of opt outs people don’t
Care I mean look at some of these games Georgia beating FSU by 60 points Ohio State losing 143 to Missouri just they’re a different team Notre Dame over Oregon State 40 to8 Miami losing to Rutgers Miami you know losing a bunch of their highend talent I mean it’s just I
Don’t see the sense in even playing these games I don’t like the the fact that we’re the the only reward is backup time now wait a minute those games still meant a lot to ruter and Missouri who did who didn’t have guys opting out no
They most of them did most of them did have Missi didn’t have Missouri had almost Missouri had everyone playing all there a lot of players you can’t just say let’s not play bowl games because there could be a lot of teams that want to be there I don’t want to not play
Bowl games I want the bowl games to be the teams that played during the regular season to be the same teams that show up in December and in January that’s what I want to see I don’t want to see some skeleton of a team that has no right to
Be on the field yeah I think I mean that those are embarrassments and I think for the fans that pay money to go to these games and travel and tune in and watch and even for the networks I’m not there’s no pity party for the networks but they’re paying big dough to watch
What you know like at the end of the at the end of the day it’s just an opportunity for a commercial for you know Tony the Tiger or something you know it’s like that’s all that that really is and it’s not about the football and so we have to figure out a
Way to change that I mean look I I know the Oregon Liberty game and obviously I’m an Oregon fan but Oregon had one opt out and it was a it was a backup running back I mean b Knicks well Liberty had no opt outs right and Liberty had no opt
Outs so we saw was that final score it was a lot to a little and everybody knew that and I didn’t like the matchup because honestly Oregon had really nothing to gain and everything to lose in that one but but the the point is is that bonck didn’t have to play in that
Game a bunch of Oregon players didn’t have to play in that game but they did and so that’s nice when you get that kind of Buy in but as we see across the college football landscape that’s never the case and it’s going to increasingly become so if they don’t change it I do
Like the 12 team playoff but you know honestly if if this is what we’re getting with bowl games if they’re just going to continue to take this downward spiral then expand the playoffs to even more teams because I want more meaningful games when it matters most in
These bowl games honestly I just I hate to see them turn into jokes and that’s what it felt like to your point we’ll have 12 playoff it’s going to be so much fun we’ll have 12 playoff games this coming season there will still be 35
Bowl games that will mean even less so I think you’re right we’ll see more of this I I pulled out a couple of examples of teams and you pulled out one in Oregon that kept their players interested that that had you know that will to be there and that but I agree
With you that that’s going to become fewer and farther between it’s going to be tougher to keep these guys engaged and I think one of the solutions other than expanding to even a broader playoff field is what we touched on earlier and it’s you’ve got to if if we’re moving
Toward paying players which we already are then whether it’s the TV networks or the title Bowl sponsor you got to incentivize these guys to play all right coming up on the other side the NFL playoffs of course right around the corner who’s not hot and who is not
Heading into the postseason we’re going to discuss when the nod pod Continues welcome back to the no off days podcast we are in week 18 of the NFL season which means teams positioning for the playoffs what teams are looking good as we get to that playoff Finish Line and what teams are kind of limping toward the finish so uh Chris we’re going to do
A little hot or not segment uh teams that you think are are positioned well for a nice little playoff run based on what we’ve seen the last couple of weeks and teams that you know honestly you wouldn’t be surprised to get get see knocked off here um in maybe the the
First round of of the the the postseason okay team okay okay I like it sorry I was tripping over my peas right there did no all right so you know I think uh we could throw out the the first two Hots and I think they’re pretty easy
These are the teams that are the uh already locked in as the one seeds and that would be the Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers the Ravens have won six straight games uh meanwhile the Niners have won seven of their last eight and that loss was to Baltimore so is that a
Potential preview of what we’re going to see in the Super Bowl I mean the the Niners have had a little bit of limping along the way still managing to pull out victories uh you know injury to Brock pie that kind of hobbled them a little bit but um man these two teams they
Still you know you look at that roster and the way they’ve been playing down the stretch and I think you like what they uh where they’re at I I’ll go a little off that and I’ll I’ll pick a hot team that um you know I’m not sure how
Long they’re going to make a run but I think they’re playing well right now and that’s the LA Rams okay I mean they’ve won six of their last seven that loss coming in overtime at Baltimore uh in that stretch Matt Stafford 16 touchdowns four interceptions I just think you have
A veteran quarterback you have a team young team that has grown throughout the course of the Season you found some really key contributors throughout the course of this season that is Ken Williams uh puka akua uh you know you get Cooper uh Cooper cup back and of
Course they have you know maybe the best defensive player in the league in Aaron Donald I just I mean man the way they’re playing right now I I wouldn’t be surprised if they can keep some of these guys healthy down the stretch and it looks like they’re going to keep a bunch
Of their starters out this week against San Francisco that they might be able to ruffle some feathers how do you feel about them possibly it looks like if things were you know as they are today they would be playing at Detroit we would have Matthew Stafford’s return
Yeah that would be quite the show a lot of a lot of high emotions in that one um that’d be a good one wouldn’t it I yeah it sure would I mean that’s the storyline that the NFL wants I think a little goof against his former and
Stafford against his former so um are you wanting me to call that right now we’ll do that later but I I like your hot one that was one near the top of my list um you want me go hot or not let me give give me yeah I like that about you
2024 it’s your choice it is an election year after all um so let’s go a not one in stay in the NFC not hot the Philadelphia Eagles my my birds that were flying so high they’ve lost four of their last five they offense looks so just blah they lost to the Cardinal
Somehow um and just going into you know they they had at one point like four weeks ago they had like the 90% chance of winning the NFC east and and maybe still a shot at locking up the number one seed it was kind of between them and
The ners falling off a cliff since then so yeah I don’t know what they’ve got to do there to get this turned around but Eagles not hot not a good trajectory um let’s go with another hot from me um I like the bills I mean the winners of
Four straight I don’t think that the teams that they’ve really beaten recently are World beaters but uh their defense is playing better the the defense over these last four games has forced seven turnovers uh Josh Allen has kind of kept the the turnover thing down a little bit uh his numbers have not
Been off the charts but I mean look you have a chance to play for the AFC East title uh this week and uh that says a lot compared to where they were you know just about a month ago where you’re like is this team even going to be in the
Playoffs so they’ve turned things around and the fact that they’re being led by their defense to me that could be something that that gives them a little bit of a Spur into the into the off season I like it even though I’m going to probably pick against him later in
Our pick segment but I think it’s a good call let me give you a hot one this one’s on a heater who saw this team at 11 and five at this point in the season and that’s the Cleveland Browns yeah the brownies wow they’re headed in the right
Direction um their defense is is so good and then you got Joe flacko with this wonderful incredible yeah he’s 75 years old but he’s still doing it he’s still younger than Brady who’s considering coming out of TY but no you don’t want to get that started but yeah I like the
Browns I like let’s see where they would be I had this pulled up a second here a second ago here so they won four straight they would play at Jacksonville If This Were to be played today and boy I like the Browns in that match up I
Like that match up too yeah no Joe Flaco for coming off the couch I feel like he’s he’s progressively gotten better which is good and he’s been has has Flaco did he has he won has he won a Super Bowl uh yes with the uh Ravens the
Ravens right he did so I don’t know maybe you know maybe a little Renaissance I’ll tell you one thing he’s done he’s ruined guaranteed contracts for all these other I’ll give I’ll give you a knot um okay the Kansas City Chiefs yeah so you know they start the
Season six and one they’ve lost four of their last five in these last nine games or their their four and five over the last nine games uh but here’s the biggest concern for me is that half of their games this season they’ve scored 20 points or less uh they’ve lost their
Last three games at home I mean this is just it’s not trending in the right direction obviously we know one of the big issues is like uh who’s Patrick Mahomes throwing the football to that that’s a big problem but I mean they’re going to have to find it somewhere I
Mean this this Kansas City defense is going to have to you know play off the charts or you know I don’t know where they’re going to find it but you know Patrick Mahomes is hard to bet against and they’ve been there I mean you kind of think like once they get to the
Postseason everything’s just going to click and you know it’ll just be what they’ve done the last few years but I don’t know they’re not trending in the right direction right now and if if they don’t win their division um then that’s going to be a problem um yeah no and
That would be unimaginable to see them already well let me see let me see maybe I’m maybe I’m uh missing something here uh looking at the standings uh yeah so they’re they’re definitely they’ve already won their division so I don’t know what I’m talking about but but they
Would have to play they’ll have to play a road playoff game which is something we haven’t seen them have to do in is there a chance they could be a four seed cat Mahomes era yes uh is if Jacksonville wins I don’t know I don’t know there is a chance they could be
Here I have it uh yeah not looking good uh I’ve got one that’s I don’t want to call them uh hot is there something a tepid okay not David terer cuz that would be cold uh cold like a cold beer poured on your face yeah but kind of hot
You know and and headed in the right direction although they still might not make the playoffs and that’s the Steelers the Pittsburgh Steelers have won two in a row against teams they were supposed to lose to the Bengals and the Seahawks on the road um their chances of
