Pretty composed still and to break down last night’s debacle we bring in our rules analyst Super Bowl referee that would be Jean’s territory simply put talk us talk us through it well you got a touchdown occur Brad Allen has finished that touchdown you have players walking toward him right in 68 by his

Account yells to Brad Allen reporting reporting as you said at that time 70 Skippers coming in now Brad Allen’s got the mix right there where he see he hears reporting and he sees 70 who has reported throughout the game so the Assumption there at that point was 68

Says he’s reporting Brad Allen makes eye contact with 70 Brad Allen says I I announced that 70 was eligible you see him quickly go to the defensive side to verbally let the defense know look 70 is eligible on the play and there you have the beginning of the miscommunication

Yeah and I think we I had those conversations Gan with the officials as I had them with you before a game and talking about trick plays or something you’re going to do to alert them to what you’re doing to make sure they understand what’s right and what’s wrong

And I think in this case you had 70 reporting multiple times before this there was a level of presumption I think on Brad Allen’s part when he saw 70 come in to me six Decker needs to say whoa this isn’t 70 reporting eligible and you saw Dan Campbell in this press

Conference get it confused he said no I mean 6 68 is reporting eligible so you want to bring that element of that I know there’s a little bit of deception trying to be created because you want to be make a look at the same thing G yeah but but 68 responsibilities make sure

That official looks to me I am the one that’s eligible not 70 I’m going to tell you right now Brad Allen got confused and why did he get confused he got confused because Detroit executed exactly the way that they wanted to execute this play now you think back to

The 2014 divisional playoff game between the Ravens and the Patriots and John Harbaugh said after that game that the Ravens were clearly using deception and they also were using a substitution trick against us now the Patriots went on to win that game the flake gate came

The next week because Tom Brady says we know the rules I think Dan Campbell confused the officials the players did exactly what they were expected to do and you know quite frankly it’s a very very chaotic moment in the game and that’s one of the reasons why he was

Confused well I’m confused even more now listen to all this I really am you know listen Jean can once the play is over can the official come back and go I made a mistake he can’t do that not after he’s announced that this player is eligible well not a retraction now when

We’re not going to review and saying now that we’ve changed who is eligible once you make that announc botom you got to make announ the bottom line is you got to make sure the officials understand before you even run the coach you do I there ownest responsibility if I’m going

To do something I want to make sure they got it right I’m watching them report did they report it as is what they did so I’m just telling Taylor Decker you make sure you they know it’s not 70 as it’s been a whole game but how many

Times as a coach or a player do you have to check in with the refs you already went over it you execute it perfectly and you are penalized for executing it perfectly I just feel like as players as coaches we get microphones shoved in our face every day after we make mistakes in

The game I feel like the refs need to speak out because we are all confused I’m not trying to blame them but I do feel like Detroit was penalized for doing exactly what they and listen when Coach Campbell says look I went over this to a t uh I’m not going to imply

That he got on the Whiteboard and wrote down this exact play right when officials go in there an hour two hours before the game coach anything special today did Coach Campbell say you know what crucial plays we’re going to play ineligibles today don’t forget ineligibles are going to be reporting to

You he probably did that and I don’t know how simply put Taylor Decker did say I’m eligible he said he said reporting reporting rep reporting and is that is that fulfilling his responsibility listen if somebody yells to me reporting reporting I’m looking right back at you and I’m saying to you

This is an untime down the game’s on the line are you reporting as eligible 68 yes now make the announcement that it’s 68 Detroit did what Detroit was doing was that against the spirit of the rules no it’s great gamesmanship well time out you go back to that playoff game with

The Patriots and Ravens they made sure after that game that everybody knew who was on the field and who was eligible because of that game there were two penalties on that play and the second penalty was not announced by Brad Allen that’s why I believe he was confused

Last thing I’ll say is congrats to the Cowboys and CD lamb had one hell of a again yes all right love the fact that you and Bill cow have a good relationship even they’re both from Pittsburgh I’m four spots away today

  1. Brad Allen was embarrassed after the play and realized he didn't inform the defense of #68 . He knew it too..

  2. Don't put any money on NFL games (or NBA games with Lebron James in them). Can't trust the league or the refs.

  3. So it's the officials fault that the Lions lost and the officials are the NFL's responsibility so because goodell can overturn the game he should overturn the game the Lions deserve the victory period! That should not be controversial

  4. Burleson hitting that nail on the head.

Brad Allen watched Decker catch that 2 pt and went, "Oh shit. Oh shit. He reported, not #70. Oops."

And it cost the Lions the win.

Btw, not the only horrible call. The tripping call. The obvious PI on like the Dallas 12…

  5. Now for the 2nd time in a meaningful game at Dallas the Lions get screwed by the officials. In 2014 the picked up a pass interference flag with no explanation that time

  6. I stopped the video at 0:14 and I would like to predict what will be said. He will tell us that it's ambiguous. The official in the heat of the moment confused the two players who (purposely) walked over and spoke to him. It's not on the players to make sure that the refs do their job!……….Now I have finished watching the video and am completely correct!~

  7. The Coach knew when the PA said 70 Reporting, that there was a problem. He could have had a timeout, or gotten the player to communicate again.
Get so creative, it's on you to make sure it's right.

  8. I made a couple of biased posts on other videos, knowing that the officials get confused. Wrong numbers are continuously made during penalty calls (this needs to be worked on, use a pen and paper or something), so I understand the ref got 'confused'(being generous), but he or the head office should listen to the parabolic mics to hear who said what. That being said, maybe the rule for reporting as eligible should be changed from 'I am reporting as eligible' to 'Number 68 reporting as eligible'.

  9. Everyone seems to be assuming the initial attempt was successful. But the Cowboys had no reason to cover 68. To them he was ineligible !! If the refs had got he number right the Cowboys would have atleast tried to cover him. Plus the Lions played it cute with 3 lineman up by the ref . No sympathy for the Lions!!

  10. The Lions tried to pull a fast one and got caught. Good grief, Detroit, put this to rest and move on. I hope the Cowboys meet them in the playoffs. Dallas will win that one, too.

  11. 70 Decker is right in front of him, He saw him and heard it, Brad Allen made a mistake yes, Why the Lions get punished? Game is rigged, Goodell could have stepped in but he’s more concerned about revenue.
