From the floor he’s going to have to step up this would be a nice night for him to have a good game just for his own mindset our officials Jeff Clark Clarence Armstrong Nathan frell Yukon and the home whites depal on the road blacks the Huskies have taken the last

16 meetings between these two teams it’s great chance early the first four minutes or so before that first TV timeout to kind of set the tempo of this game a you Yukon get your crowd into it students are back on [Applause] campus Caravan was rejected a vicious block by Jeremiah

Odin yeah there’s some athleticism there by Odin caraman has to understand you might have to find some body when you’re getting to the basket against a guy like Odin Blue Demons coming off a win over Chicago State on Saturday they were able to shoot well for free Odin off on his first first

Attempt and that’s probably the difference if they can make threes the they could be in the game now there’s a couple other areas that they really have to clean up but making that three ball erases a lot of issues when you’re on the road here is Stefon Castle up top to

Johnson and to [Applause] turnover and know The Scouting Report is out you know Caravan really good getting to the rim but just too much air space between Odin that’s when you want to lean in a little bit hit that body contact and maybe get a whistle it’s a depal team that just had

Their full compliment of players for the first time this season on Saturday and that’s not just talking about games you need all those guys to have solid practices as well shot clock trim to eight down to six to the corner it’s Henley and Newton with a Foul Dan Hurley in year six at the helm and in non-conference games in the last two regular seasons Donnie Marshall a record of 21 and one that’s the best two-year run in Connecticut basketball history spectacular really is and he’s done a really nice job of picking his spots

When he’s getting into the RS backing up a little bit he’s really found a way to trust his players giving them so much confidence Spencer off to Johnson Newton travel yeah these are those games where you can’t get lazy you know that that’s a that to me right there is a pro bono

Turnover they they didn’t earn it it was free you just gave it to him Tony’s double field on the other side of this match have been years three he said to his guys after the win over Chicago State you close 2023 the ball drops gentlemen when we turn the page of

January let’s make this a blank slate a new year that’s that’s what you have to do you got to tell your guys forget about what happened before WIS and losses a fou on desan Nelson so a couple of turnovers look the the they’re not a great rebounding team at either end of

Paul they have athletes it’s what Stubblefield wanted when he went into to that portal in the off season he said I want to get athletic but it’s the small things that make the difference the fundamental setting good screen so you don’t lose a possession those are the things that have really been hurting

Theal all season [Applause] long here is Tristan Newton Newton attacking and the Huskies with three early turnovers I think it’s interesting when you think about Yukon and what they’ve done this season they have only one single digit assist game all season long so moving without the ball has really been a

Specialty of their that was a nine against Kansas but this has been a Yukon team that they share the ball they’re unselfish and they move very well without it so not like them to have this many turnovers this early Henley now driving with the right hand I think you can gain your

Confidence and put some pressure on Samson Johnson if you’re depal and understanding when Yukon goes to the bench it gets small because kinging is on the menend Jaden Henley the Minnesota transfer T stuble field Miss staff really attacked the portal in the off seon here’s Caravan and it is a fourth turnover by

Connetic it’s an interesting thing because Yukon they don’t turn the ball over they just it’s not what they do it’s not who they are that’s just a great drive again you attack a bigger bigger player in his body Samson Johnson has done a nice job career-high in

Minutes the last game 30 staying on the floor but it’s different when now they relied upon so much without anyone to back you up the size of clinging you’re so right this Connecticut team ranks fourth in the country in kentom adjusted offensive efficiency new nearly got to it or with

Eight on the shot clock here’s Carter Henley with three Jaden Henley Johnson denied him cam Spencer paraban with the offensive rebound here’s Tristan Newton the Paul holding Yukon scoreless for the opening four minutes and last in defensive rebounding in the Big East is dep Paul so the fact that that they

Giving Yukon no second opportunities gives him a chance to stay in this game that was the priority area for this toal staff this morning rebounding Stefon Castle to the rim that’s a long time for these fans to be standing up they don’t sit down in this building until the first bucket is

Scored by the home team it’s okay we all just sat around for the last week you’re so right you’re so right [Applause] spacing for depal has to be a premium you got to get out of each other’s way too many guys jammed up Henley with a head of Ste and again

Johnson rejecting that one taking us to a timeout Yukon players understand what it’s like to play in this building they’ve won 22 of their last 23 it’s paying off right now Samson Johnson he was a teammate of Adama sonogo in high school yeah at the Patrick school so he’s been

Around greatness in terms of big men you know the last four five six years of his basketball career sh clock violation on the inbounds they wanted to continue playing I don’t I agree John you you have this is to me a situation where the refs have

To overrule that buzzer on the side that that the violation I get it it goes you don’t to blow whle let’s go we we have the ball now you’re taking it away from us because theyve turned the ball over so you’re helping the offense who fail to

Convert let him play is what you’re saying let him play here is Cam Spencer Spencer getting separation in scoring wow what the big body cam Spencer tough kid you know he can shoot the basketball I don’t think there his toughness is talked about enough as mental toughness one but also

Physically you stand next to him you realize he’s got some good size to him here’s Jeremiah Odin oh good move Jeremiah Odin and Johnson’s having his own block party three rejections such great activity start your break Castle ah an airball yeah it’s one of those spots where he’s been struggling this

Season only made one three on the season Castle but everything can’t be perfect to first year I mean got to be able to learn and grow a little bit got to have something to work on Plenty of upside absolutely ma eten is just checked in for deal eten with the turnaround in the

Right hand and sometimes when you’re a team like DePaul that struggles you know you have three three-point Shooters you’re coming from behind you forget about your bigs down low Caravan answers that’s big for him it’s a great throw ahead to caraban and trusting that he’s going to do something

Right with it good to see that ball go down for him that type of momentum shooter is Caravan John the straight up defense but fer still scored yeah you love those plays those are those to me are the plays that now put the onus on the refs

To have to call you’ve already decided we’re going to go right into the big man’s chest they don’t call it you got to finish strong terrific finish by Fisher you brought up to Paul’s Talent Donnie Elijah Fischer was a five-star recruit out of high school as Castle commits the offensive

Foul El Elijah Fischer’s coming off a 16-point game as well one of the few bright spots the Paul’s had this season it’s another one you know it’s just the the bigger stronger guy against the smaller player and you know I I don’t know what happened to the 95% of these calls

Or you know I I are going to be blocks I don’t understand when you’re moving or you’re sliding but again it we we see that happen a lot early in college basketball Seasons point of emphasis and then it fades away once conference play comes now here’s Henley transfer from Minnesota one of

Eight newcomers on this defal team down to eten and a travel I don’t know if it was a travel I don’t think he really had possession of the basketball but this is because of the hands from Yukon look at that Sol the ball in there Samson Johnson ready to attack

And that’s just real good activity with playing defense with your hands without fouling Caravan again Alex Caravan ready for 2024 and that’s big again for him mentally to see that ball going through the net talked about his last three he’s three of 13 from three-point range they already got two [Applause]

Tonight nine points against St John’s last time out but was battling that shot and look at Castle there’s the part of his game that Dan Hurley loves that defensive intensity yeah SOLO ball does a nice nice job of getting his hands in again playing defense with your hands without

Fouling it’s we talked a lot about castle but to to me solo ball and probably because he stayed healthy and Castle missed some time solo ball has really done a nice job of of utilizing the minutes that he’s gotten from from coach Hurley you’ve brought this up now

With clinging out as well this Freshman Class who can step up from this first year group some opportunities knock Johnson and how about the defense on the backside from ring as big basketball even though you’re at home teams are going to play technically behind half cour this is

This is when now the insurance uh guys come in and say was he technically behind half court the line or was he a little over I mean they’ll go in the monitor to review that no let’s go take a look y well after further review our crew

Says he was behind the line what I’m getting in my ear they’re telling me he was behind the line okay TV is his Don’t Rain On parade 40 in shotpocket 10 it’s been in the hands of Henley quite a bit early on they’ll keep it the issue that Deal’s having

Right now though is they’re getting downhill they’re getting downhill though off the dribble when they put the ball on the floor four or five times anytime you put it down more than say three times a defense as good as Yukon is going to be set and they’re ready and

Waiting for you it has to be off the catch catch down to five that’s him with the hand to Henley Henley with two step back tough shot yeah it’s I I think it’s terrific terrific defense great job with The Scouting Report understanding what the out- of- bounds under is going to

Be it’s a Yukon team only allowing 64 points per game that’s top three in the Big East and now a foul on Henley I I just think that theal is trying to do it too much off of the dribble if they Swing Swing switch sides of the floor catch and then go now

You catch the defense by surprise a little bit now there’s a a read in to react defensively now the next guy is open they’re making it difficult on themselves because they’re putting the ball down too many times before they attack the basket maybe it goes back to

What we were talking about earlier with the fact that they didn’t have their full compliment of players this season until December the 30th yeah it’s tough because you can’t practice one and two you just really don’t know what your comfort level is with your rotations on the floor and

That’s what trist Newton gives you with his size he’s he’s not going to you don’t see it in terms of his bulk and his weight but he is aggressive he is physical has some great sides at that point guard spot here is Newton a fade pass to Johnson but he got

Held Tristan Newton did about six things just on that catch he showed a shot he moved the ball to the right showed another little hesitation put it on the floor showed a fake and then threw it inside it just he’s just so intelligent from this and it’s a it’s a small thing

But as we watch him the rest of this game he does so many little things that you’ll never see in the Box sheet but that make this team so much better Solomon ball everything but the end result two fouls by the way on KT Ry he just sat down for the [Applause]

Ball Blue Demons have not scored in three minutes and there you go so now what happens is you dribble dribble dribble get to the top bad angle on the interior pass and now you put your big in a bad spot just take a look that’s

Just just a a a tough tough pass because your big now has to come out four more feet to catch that he’s not comfortable making a move that far but great deflection defensively there by Yukon they’re really being disruptive since the last time out Terry jayen Terry from

Downtown yeah that’s big because when you get past Carter and RAM and Odin no one has taken five more than five threes on this dep team after those three so you need other guys to step up and knock a couple down you said it Terry has struggled

From three this season as diara can’t connect I love it in the zone you change the look and the only reason you can get in that zone is because you make a basket on the offensive end look as much as yukon’s being disruptive this is a one-point game we

Played 10 minutes and these teams have only scored n points combined and now a Foul ball swings look at that one dribble step back that’s what we’re talking about there John you make the move on the swing pass now you get the defense off off kilter a little bit and now you can knock down a three he was one for nine on the season from three

Before that one it’s interesting curious with your thoughts on this a depal team that just played Saturday a Yukon team that has not played in 10 days yeah that’s tough you don’t get rusty you get bored you know you’re tired of seeing the same guys every day in practice

There’s Henley from Terry on the back door and the Blue Demons lead and now his own well it worked once change the look but when you’re playing against a team with veterans like Yukon that they can figure out those scams Soloman ball figured it out the weak

Spots are the lines the free throw line and the Baseline if you can get that ball to those spots that zone breaks down but you have to get the right guy to those spots and now a foul on Tristan Newton that’s his [Applause] second yeah nice job getting behind again look getting to the Baseline sneak along the Bas Baseline you get a bucket and then the foul line on the other end for Yukon in that zone you got to get the right guys in those spots so Donnie two fouls on the Yukon

Star point guard and he sits down so it’s Castle ball and diara in the back court so now we knew they were going to get smaller Yukon another nice back to our pass this time to Terry the Paul has to take advantage of of their size now you’re

Now a small ball in favor of them Terry driving Nelson can’t stick it back diara to Spencer and Spencer that’s where they’re dangerous solo ball catch I tell you what he has grown up so much in such a short time you can see it in his play his confidence but his body

As well that baby fat is all gone here they come at GLE Odin off to Nelson Spencer got a piece of it a lot of dribbling but also again Yukon very handsy in this first half and and getting away with it deflections extending plays [Applause] eight on the shot clock and Terry the

Inbounder and a foul is called on Samson Johnson taking us to a timeout unselfishness has been one of the Staples of Yukon Basketball the swing pass I was saying as you see the record there 15 to n the big for you Big East conference doesn’t matter regular season

Doesn’t matter they they they’ll go through and lose every game and then get try to get into the tournament and then win win the whole fake what do you make of it because it’s not like they’re going up against Lester competition we talking Kansas Gonzaga Texas it’s scouting and there’s Samson Johnson

Picking up another one you know teams have time to scout you when you’re in conference play and in all the every conference across the country playing in conference is harder than anything else you’ll play some good out of conference opponents nothing as difficult as playing in conference and that that’s now where you

See caraban going to have to play essentially the five spot if you’re going to put numbers at this point you don’t put any numbers on anybody so with the foul trouble as that’s an air ball Ukon having to Tinker their lineup as from behind a foul is

Called on Carter and a great opportunity for Dall to understand you got to get downhill you can’t settle for jump shots unless it’s late clock situation and anytime for young players anytime you come down over the top of the ball the palm of your hand is facing

Down it’s easy for the refs to call if you come from behind and the palm of your hand is going up towards the ceiling and you’re trying to steal that you can get away with that that’s an easy call for the ref when you slap downwards on that ball Caleb Murphy just

Checked in he’s been out the last five games with a wrist injury cam Spencer from diara just can’t happen now here’s the [Applause] issue and now a line out of bounds a foot out of bounds for Odin and yukon’s going to get it back missing shots turning the ball over

Know those are things at times that really kill teams and that right there the lack of communication when you’re a big and you have to chase a really a shooting guard in Alex caraban even though he’s 68 if pulls The Bigs away from the basket leaves that interior

Open the types of little things Mak you talk about winning in this league What It Takes Caravan boom Nelson answers and breaks up a 90 run yeah a great opportunity for depal and Nelson in particular to to try to get down hill test the feet of caraban Castle but Yukon is comfortable playing

Big and they’re comfortable playing small that’s just what championship teams do no matter what style they play you know they’re comfortable that in their skin Christen Newton Samson Johnson two starters out with two fouls right now H diara count it well we talked about in the open out tan being an important

Part you know it’s not just the bigs that can step in when another big goes down there are other parts and Alex gaban is one of those guys and his teammates know it they want to find him Dan Hurley running plays for Alex caraban he knows that not just for this

Game but the confidence level is so important for a guy who’s been [Applause] struggling kayb Murphy with the basketball now has not played since early December that one Castle got a piece of it s Li for jump shots and Castle the fresh star blossoming in stores how about the concentration take the [Applause]

Listen the pass thear heads up but the concentration from Steph Castle to catch and finish long enough when he got pushed and they called a foul chance for an and one a 14-2 Connecticut [Applause] run and it’s come with multiple starters on the bench with foul trouble you learn

A lot about your team not just when things are going great I think you learn more about them when you know you have some stress on you and Yukon had some stress the first 10 minutes of this game Nelson out of control and here’s Caravan how about the way they collapse

Though five white uniforms inside on that move now Castle again and he’s [Applause] foul nice job the one thing you you add some athleticism to this year’s team some wonderful freshman where is the leadership coming from because all the guys coming back besides TR and Newton have haven’t really been coming into the

Season haven’t been in a position to lead and I think that to me is the one that stands out the most leadership can win you a lot of games guys know what it’s like to be there and they’ve done it before here he is Stefon Castle talking

In the preseason about how much he wants to be that next great Connecticut guard he’s not thinking about the NBA you said it Jaylen score checking in as well so more freshman here in this first half for ukah they go a little bit thinner without clinging with clinging

They go eight deep now it’s seven and with Samson Johnson going to the bench you give other guys like Ross and Stewart a chance to show you what they have shot clock is down to eight it’s at six fer Elijah fer get some help from the

Rim and they they may be getting buckets at times to Paul but it’s they’re working hard for him a lot of dribbling that basketball lot of hoping for fouls if you don’t get the ball to [Applause] fall Hassan diara the kid from Queens not his specialty but when he’s knocking down

Shots especially from Deep this team is they are a problem he’s not a guy that’s going to beat you from there but if he can make a couple wow Huskies four of eight from [Applause] downtown here is Cho Carter shot clocks down to seven again they go deep into

The timer all three of these Elijah fiser again but again off the pass John it wasn’t a dribble dribble dribble dribble again dribble some more it was a pass bang bang play catch shoot Caravan off the window and once he gets it going that basket just gets bigger it’s like a hula ho

Print he’s got 10 seven straight made field goals for [Applause] Yukon like to see the PA get this ball going downhill no shot block was in the game we’ve been talking about it Terry shot clock again at three here’s Carter and another shot clock [Applause] violation well you needed someone to

Break the where does caraban competitive nature stand for you it’s I mean it’s up there obviously with or he wouldn’t be wearing that uniform it’s just you you can’t come to this school no matter who the coach is you can’t come to this state and play in this building wear

That uniform if you can’t compete if if you’re going to cow to to competition and I just think he’s a he’s one of those silent leaders plays he’s he’s not Donnie Marshall that has to tell everybody in the building what he thinks and I love that about him he’s

One of those just quiet confidence and and obvious see a talented talented player Alex Caravan you tell everybody what you think well when I was a player I did no one will listen now you’re barely listening to me I see your eyes GL glazing over a foul on Solomon ball Yukon in the

[Applause] penalty yeah too much hands right there and and he’ll learn you have the power and the speed you can give maybe a step and if that shot goes up you’ve done your job you contest it [Applause] late one and one here for Elijah Fischer oh and that one so I I think

Somebody opened the door Breeze came in and blew that ball short many faces of Donovan kinging telling the story close the door this wasn’t 11 to 10 the Paul lead and since then 21 to7 h and now another foul that sounds St so they’ll be back to the

Line here’s the hard part for freshman too you saw castle at one in with the foul and here the aggressive foul by Stewart your coaches are telling you get in there play hard stay up in him be aggressive and and that it’s hard sometimes to sift through exactly what

They mean to decipher when to do that and when not to I think you know as a as a as a player and and being close with a lot of coaches like you and I are I think it’s better to tell a guy to be aggressive and then you

Can pull him back then to then to have to force a guy to to to to play hard those aggressive fouls I don’t have a problem with Fischer redeems himself back at the line it’s a really talented player at the free throw line Donnie and he was

With the Canadian national team the past two summers helped Canada to a bronze medal finish at the FBA under 19 World Cup on MVP at another tournament Fisher is has been a breath of fresh air says Tony subfield you always want those guys who understand what it takes to win we all

Want winners but you got to figure out how to win first he’s one of those guys Spencer all the wayc really nice offense I mean we talk about the athleticism of Yukon and what they do when they have to play without some of their bigger players [Applause]

But their offensive sets are seconds and none Henley stuck Castle defending him that one little long as ball provided some help the Freshman doing work Spencer again and you never want to put too much on one player but this team is a different team when Camp spenc making shots they just

Are in two losses he’s shooting 16% and 21% from the Field cam Spencer now it’s not all on him but when he’s making shots this team’s hard to beat how about little short too much standing around and watching I think by depal almost kind of conceding a little bit they’re

Not running guys off the line you still you know that clock can’t tick fast enough for Coach Stubblefield to get his guys in the locker room and try to regroup here over dribbling just just to just too much and Terry is off and here they come again a 26 to8 run cam

Spencer is short and it goes back to [Applause] Dall yeah cam cam Spencer he’s he’s just so well balanced on the season coming into today’s game 130 field goal attempts 83 of those are threes that’s balance you know it’s not you’re not just getting all threes from cam Spencer you’re not just getting

Layups he can make his free throws almost 90% I still think he’s one of the the the most special I’d say top one or two after maybe Hunter Dickinson and C Spencer in terms of the portal and what they brought to their teams this season you said it in those two losses just

Five points in one six points in the other when he’s been quiet they’ve been a different team when he’s loud they have flourished and he’s got it again and he does that too he stays in he rebounds one of the toughest guys you’ll ever meet too really hard on himself but

You like that caraban Alex Caravan with a dozen in the first half yeah probably should have got got a file call as well I thought he did a nice job taking that contact and playing through [Applause] It Yukon on a 28-8 run one second difference between shot and game clock here is Carter dishes out to Ry with three Ry in and out Caravan dispenser a whistle and it came in just after the horn it’s the half wow that was a that whistle was before the buzzer I thought cam

Tied this is a Yukon team that D Dan Hurley is learning hey I don’t want to play without Tristan Newton but if we have to go a little spent without him just a couple of Spurs we have guys who can step in and keep us in games and not

Only that can get us leads so Newton and Samson Johnson back on the floor to start the second half they checked out somewhat early in the First with two fouls Newton finding Johnson and Samson Johnson scores seen this a lot this season with the the really really good teams they

They don’t allow their guys who have sat out who only play 10 minutes in the first half to warm themselves back up they go right to them the play immediately is for Newton to Johnson that’s exactly what the great teams do that’s an awesome call by coach Hurley here is desan

Nelson Tony Stubblefield said he has to be our most important player in this game I don’t know why there can’t be a steady diet of that you take some time you keep your spacing and now not only that you challenge Samson Johnson to stay out of cloud trouble you just have

To have confidence in your big inside to to give him a chance to get a touch and do something good with it sometimes simple works most of the time John you know that I mean this is look and the refs are allowing them to just play basketball no Tic Tac fouls there

Were some physical aggressive plays in the first half look out a reading from the book of [Applause] Samson you got to give credit to kamman Young and Luke Murray and Tom Moore the assistant for for Dan Hurley they draw up some plays out of bounds unders offensive sets second to none in the

Country d bit out of control to PA with numbers Carter behind the back Des Nelson gets it on the F and I don’t think I don’t think coach Hurley liked that play from Tristan Newton Tristan Newton was looking for a foul I just think it was a little bit

Out of control and now you see depal back in that Zone off of rade bucket got to stay active though in the zone cam Spencer beats the zone and what happens is when the ball gets to the foul line all the eyes go to Tristan Newton and you fall asleep on the

Three-point shooter how in a Zone do you avoid being reactive and being proactive I almost have to match up at times when when you’re on that weak side you see teams run a lot of matchup zones out of that two three check the closest guy to you Fisher off Spencer to Newton Newton

Poetry and it’s castle with the jam know what made that play So Special is that most players not even young players would try to grab the rim pull that down and miss the dunk Steph Castle just says you know what two points is two points throws it down doesn’t have to

Hang on the rim awesome play and a foul out of bounds under there look there are a lot of great teams that run this really well but when you have the size and the length to be able to take advantage of that have the right guy making that pass that’s your special on

Them there in transition just Newton might not have even taken two steps before he pass that in transition to Castle the foul was on Samson Johnson that’s his third so Solomon ball comes in as Yukon will go small again and put Caravan at the five that’s a smart play

By the Paul though throw the ball inside put Johnson in a little bit of a pickle with those fouls but now understanding no shot bler you got to get in the paint well Caravan said I can still reject it but there’s Nelson with the clean up and that’s one block but who’s

Going to follow that back up when you’re going small if you’re Yukon B [Applause] can they keep attacking two for n from three car backto back blockson and he was able to hit that off of the foot of Henley there is Alex Caravan to a t i

Mean Henley’s out of bounds this is a smart play by cariban caravan’s inbounds this ball’s still alive then he just knocks it off of Henley [Applause] Castle all the way step Castle just so strong I that was a little bit of a flop I think it was a good no call by the

Officials There Teran is called for the foul he didn’t like it no call I it actually could have been a block you you know that you have three guys that understand it’s not just about it’s not I it’s it’s about us you know Tristan Newton has had triple doubles

And by the way TR Newton the only guy on the floor in this game tonight that has double has a double figure rebounding game so he can give it to you on the glass points obviously we know he passes the ball but to have that wherewithal to

Say you know what I got to get guys involved that’s why they have that good balance cuz they have a terrific point guard in Newton 16 points seven rebounds six assists per game he’s getting on All-American consideration radar no not one other player in this game has had 10

Rebounds in a game this entire season except just heard of short on the three what I love is this Yukon team as 15 assists on 20 made field goals they lead the Big East almost 18 a game you shouldn’t be [Applause] surprised on Mr Paul team the officials

Will converge and keep it with the Blue Demons conversely three assists on 11 made field goals a big difference there in this game you just you can’t win a game like that at any level Henley is off Newton with the vision nice DH for the bucket by Castle he’s got

12 look if you’re Tony subfield you’re not even running any plays you’re saying look just go compete play hard have some pride in both the name on the front of uniform and especially the one on the back don’t worry about the score let’s try to win this next four minutes nice

Back door pass from Nelson to fer Nelson and fiser have combined for 19 of the teams [Applause] 28 castle and he gave it away yeah it’s all about understanding what you’re supposed to do at that high post when you catch that ball you look at Newton sometimes when the scoring’s not happening for certain players they could go quiet but his presence remains those six assists this [Applause]

Evening here is Nelson he’s double Carter back to Nelson Nelson gives it off again on the put back it’s good for jermiah [Applause] Odin if you want to try to chip away at this game if you’re depal has to be more touches in the paint to number 21 because right now

Nelson’s the real the only guy who’s really affecting this game with his either his passing or his ability to score in the post in the second half again they cut and on the back door Elijah fiser he’s got 12 and now it allows depal to get back into their two3

Zone which at times if you’re an offensive Juggernaut like Yukon has shown this season it gets boring playing against the Zone solo ball connects yeah that’s a great answer there quick time out call by Dany yeah what you don’t want to do is when it comes to actually solidifying

A number one seed Health your leadership you can see it growing every game with Yukon but I think your health is the one thing that really stands out especially with Donovan kingan had a now this is the second time he’s had an issue with that foot this

Season with pigs you just never want to rush them back because you know how special kinging is and how important he is to making a run here is Nelson with Samson Johnson back in with those three fouls and Johnson was straight up defense at Arizona lost to Stanford on

New Year’s Eve propelled the Huskies up to the one line I’m sure that’ll move up and down all season long is foul what tickles me is Yukon is only talked about as being a blue blood when they win championships but when you talk about Duke and Kentucky and Kansas even when they lose

You call him a blue blood I just think that’s an interesting thing to to to ponder why why are are the huskys only considered a blue blood when they win championships why is that and you don’t have to answer right now something we could talk about on your

Podcast get say are you getting into column writing in 2024 I think it’s interesting and obviously being a former husky I take a little you know little offense to that can hear it in your voice and airing of grievances a little bit little bit speaking of Mr dorsi’s

Bracket forecast one of his first eight teams out currently but there’s plenty of seas left Butler in action next on FS1 against St John yeah I’m telling you faad Ma he you know he he told us he’s got Butler players and and he’s got some terrific players not only that they’re

Playing together in the right way in his system awesome to see Butler is a really really good team folks Spencer with a deflection and Ry came down with it KT Ry scoreless tonight after he had 15 the last game with three on the shot clock Nelson cannot [Applause] [Applause] connect

Ball little bit long Hassan diara with the offensive rebound and diar’s efforts pay off how about that Assan diara just digging that rebound out Donovan clinging out but for Yukon thus far it’s been no we want some of that and I love that they’re traveling and not just playing big teams in those

You know in in the the multi-team events and things like that I love that they’re going places look at that four games versus AP 15 that is just unheard of this time of year to be able to do that but in my opinion that is a championship schedule and it’s you’re you’re learning

A lot about yourselves I always say if you’re not winning you’re learning and they learned a lot about themselves against Kansas obviously season in conference play starts and they they’ve learned a lot about themselves since SE Hall in the current net rankings yukai at nine that’s the highest Mark in the

Big East with Marquette at 10 a foul on Johnson that’s his fourth yeah they gave that to diar that’s a great job by Hanan diar to to raise his hand and go to the official knowing that Samson Johnson’s in some foul trouble that’s a heads up play by

Diara that’s a hook right there that they missed Elijah Fischer back to the line the leading scorer tonight for [Applause] depal you’ve been bringing it up ball movement connectivity is there another big picture thought when you’re watching theal that they can focus on as January goes along look this is

About the time where you find out what your identity is and coach double field said he wanted to be more athletic I think they are more athletic I just you know the only way you can find Winners is by winning and right now they are really struggling to find even winning multiple

Possessions just a tough place that depal is in right now in coach double Field Spencer with one on the shot clock he short by the way the officials conven and assessed the foul to diara moments ago so Johnson’s count is still at three yeah well diara ran over to the ref and

Put his hand up and said that was on me that’s a smart play they were heading towards putting up 35 here’s fer and now diara commits another foul that’s his third yeah no question who that foul was on diara doesn’t have to raise his hand on that

One did you ever step in and raise your hand to take credit for the foul uh yeah you know it depended on who it was I don’t know if Ray ever did that for Ray Allen yes for do Marshall no never not once never for Danielle it was that Marshall yeah definitely that

One when you talk about talent that they do possess we’ve seen it from Elijah fiser tonight we really have and the one part about being a coach and again you and I have a lot of close friends who are head coaches at this level obviously at the next level the confidence of one

But also when you have a couple of guys who are your stronger personalities and they’re playing well you want them to lift everyone up but what happens at times is the players who aren’t playing well or can’t function in a losing situation is they pull those those good

Players down and that to me is the hardest situation for a coach to be in when you’re not winning how do you get the good players to lift everyone else up instead of it being the other way [Applause] Around here is Tristan new scoreless tonight but six assists and he delivered it off do that to you I think for TOS stay shot ready your hands weren’t ready though they were not I got to admit they were I I’m a little I’m down on you now your hands weren’t ready boy

It wasn’t that close to this was exactly definitely passed to someone else Don Fanta good hands Donny Marshall with you from stores Yukon in control after a 10-day layoff following their win over St John’s young off on the three and here comes Solomon ball lost control control of it young up ahead

Connects it’s all you want you telling your guys don’t worry about the score and again as a coach you can find out a lot about your guys when they’re not winning when they’re down big in games and I’m sure coach Stubblefield is paying close attention to how his guys

Are responding to being down big jayen sortis just checked back in for Connecticut shot clock is down to six here’s Spencer with four Spencer with three gives it off to Jaylen short and that is a shot clock violation and that stinks I’ve been in those positions

Where you get in the game you haven’t played a lot and now a guy who plays 30 minutes a game throws you the ball with one second on the shot clock that’s a and then now Stuart comes back out it’s really no fault of his own what a just a discouraging position to

Be in and I’ve been in that position that Jaylen Stewart was in right there it [Applause] sucks honest oh man he feels like you’re on an audition stage right yeah like come on guys help me out here Johnson with another rejection Spencer in transitions it off and then C Spencer

Knocks one down the very play down the floor Dan to Johnson with four blocks tonight just shoved his way and that is an offensive foul Spencer took the charge really can’t say enough about cam Spencer I mean he’s knows where his feet are pulls that right toe back donov

Mcing loving it and then takes the charge that is square to the chest such a smart player I know he’s like 37 years old I joked with him this Summer we played some golf and I’m like man you might be as old as me but Johnson and Samson slams at

Home and this is where your personal Pride kicks in if you’re deul you know you really got to understand that you you’re out there playing for your team yes but out of respect to the game and pride in yourself you got to try to play some defense and compete here the last8

Minutes no matter what the score is counted in the foul for Chico Carter that’s his first bucket of the game Chico Carter really nice job there transfer from South Carolina just another veteran you know you don’t like when you know things are going poorly for you when your when your older guys

Have been struggling Chico Carter his last three games he’s at 11 points shooting 33 from three and he’s been a lot of places Murray State a couple years South Carolina a couple years those are the guys if you’re Tony St you rely on than tonight hav’t scored double

Figures in his last six games that’s just three points tonight one for eight here’s Castle he is dazzled at times tonight Johnson with the feed from Castle his fifth assist you know what I love about Samson Johnson he’s got an old school Big Man game it’s not a power back to

The basket it’s long athletic active Corner three a little short here they come again Castle off to Caravan Castle has six assists their unselfishness is not talked about enough Yukon when you have that much talent on one team and they continue to thrive in passing the ball and sharing

The wealth it’s awesome top 20 nationally in assists tops in the Big East eten gets it to go I love the energy Tony Stubblefield showing that sideline though he’s down in defensive stance he’s still coaching his tail [Applause] off Spencer off of screen cam Spencer’s automatic he’s got

20 mening to you Cam Spencer is a good golfer about a four or five handicap wow yeah he can play talks a lot of trash too look talks a lot of trash let me tell you he’s got game he does and Samson Johnson here night the Paul may

Want to sign something either the half court shooter or the three-point shooter in both of the timeout games the participants have won the honors we saw a halfcourt shot and then that was just a buzzer beating three so the fans in stores have started the year strong yeah [Applause] yeah something about these

Builds they’ve won 22 of their last 23 games here the only team that came in here and handed them a loss it was Xavier sule bone and the Musketeers part of their sweet 16 Season a year [Applause] ago here’s SC with some defense it’s great hustle that’s how you stay on the floor

If you’re a young player I love it again you you’re up big and you’re still diving on the the floor for loose balls that coaches are watching that as a freshman you’re doing anything you need to do to stay on the floor you say this all the

Time when a player is isn’t necessarily hitting their shots how do they contribute elsewhere maybe that propels yeah stand out in other areas small things too set screens dive on the floor make an extra pass here is Newton seven assists on his night he goes to Johnson Samson Johnson on an

Island ah he missed Stewart cutting along that basine L that was a terrific cut along the Baseline and Samson Johnson just turned the other way foul on caraban take a look right there he was open just for a second look Samson Johns you can’t ask him to do

Everything he he’s blocked shots he’s he’s been finishing strong can’t expect him to throw a no look over the Shoulder sending fiser back to the line Elijah fiser we’ve talked uh quite a bit about him he was a top 15 player out of high school five-star rating from Ontario had over 20 offers from high Majors ended up going to Texas Tech and make a coaching change and his name in

The portal and he always felt like maybe Chicago could be a destination and a soft spot for the the ball landed there and tonight he’s been their best player with 17 [Applause] points here is Newton Newton trying to create some space but he traveled well Fisher one of those guys

Talking to Tony Stubblefield earlier in the season said he has the highest ceiling you know he thought he would be a breakout player for them this season again it’s all about him trying to lift those other guys up to his level night in and night out what’s that process

Entail you you can’t it’s hard enough to be a college student athlete going to class trying to do what you’re supposed to do in the classroom traveling playing this game I mean it’s a full-time job but you just just hope that you can pull those guys with you being confident when

They’re down being encouraging look at that pass caraban what a pass and and it was a pass that hit him right in the pocket where caraban could knock it down fourth time this year that Yukon has hit at least 10 threes Nelson and Caravan Fon is third

Yeah it’s a great pass jayen Stewart finds his guy again a lot of young players there’s a difference sometimes most of the time they throw the ball to a teammate and when you throw the ball to a teammate you don’t know where it’s going you hit

Them in the knees The Shins over their head awesome to see young players fundamentally sound like that passing the ball hitting their teammate where they know they like to catch and shoot it it’s caraban and Spencer come off they combin for 37 points and seven

Triples one game at a time when you got your stud you know on the shelf and clinging just one game at a time you got a couple tough ones ahead on the road if you’re Yukon can’t look too far ahead in these situations win the one that’s in front of you

Clinging still out a couple of weeks with that injured tendon to his right foot there’s [Applause] jayen my favorite freshman in in all of America and tell us why he’s got some great DNA in his in his blood Dal coming from Seattle all the way across the country Hassan diara an exavation point

On a big night for [Applause] Yukon 11 for 22 from three [Applause] wow and now diara with some defense we talk about a two-way player diara showing he can be that tonight it’s time for the emotions of Hurley and then praton Marquette two of the best basketball Minds in shakas

Smart and Greg mcgm in the country how about these stars tonight this Duo the way they lit it up with seven combined threes it was a slow start but and they scored in so many ways John it wasn’t just shooting threes it wasn’t just layups I mean just the balance of

The way those two guys scored the ball tonight and it was contagious diara got into it solo ball early was scoring Stefan castle at The Rim carear High seven assists for Castle so it’s you know when they say turnovers are contagious but the good things are contagious too sharing the ball

Rebounding castle with those seven assist off to Ross here’s ball another battle for it and theal will take it 62% from the floor for Yukon best Mark of the season and there’s Nelson yeah Ross got no better than that stay at home he’s one of those guys who likes to

Play those those passing Lanes he’s got great spatial awareness on the court just a little bit too late on that steal castle with a Euro ston castle with 14 points and seven dishes awesome balance there using that strength and powering it up at the end foul on diara his fourth and Dan Hurley

Not pleased with the foul this late Dan Hurley is a coach that most of his career I I don’t think he’s had blowouts the way he’s had them since in the last couple of years with Yukon so he’s just it’s in his system to continue

To coach up 30 like you’re down 30 it just that’s who he is and and I think if you love basketball that’s endearing it really is it’s it’s awesome to see that he’s not just sitting down like okay we’ve won this game he’s respecting the game by

Continuing to coach no matter what the score is and he is a numbers guy and he looks at the net rankings which we brought it up earlier yukon’s nine the net gets impacted by margin of victory yeah it’s uh the new way of college basketball [Applause]

Hassan diara a big night for diara a season High 14 [Applause] [Applause] points fer couldn’t connect and there’s Nelson so Nelson and fiser with a combined 36 tonight now west spot on the floor we talked earlier about Dan Hurley how about his record at gamp Pavilion

Wowza pretty special that 22 is about to turn into 23 of 24 they have been dominant inside this building and there’s something about this building as you well know it’s it’s a different field they also play in Hartford which is about 30 minutes away 35 minutes or so at the XL Center but

You don’t have the it’s just not as cozy I guess you know the studs are close here they’re loud they’re engaged none of them have left it’s a different atmosphere in this building [Applause] 10 on the shot clock here’s Ry he had a big game against Chicago state is fouled

Here with seven on the shot clock well they’ve been great at home they’re about to move to 12 and two but now Road life in the Big East is about to kick it how about that Friday night game FS1 at Butler you talk about a crowd you talk about a building that’s

That’s into it that’s knowledgeable Butler their fans there their students there again they’re they’re Second To None there are a couple really great buildings to play in Butler kraton Providence I think is to me in my opinion Providence might be the hardest place to play in in the entire

Conference but go to Butler it’s not just a team you’re playing against a new and new and improved team you got have to think about those fans and then you go to Xavier after that same deal awesome fan base y all just saw Andrew Hurley check in the son of Danny two Hurley

Boys that one a little bit Long offensive rebound though scor making another hustle playl oh can h on the other end RL with the [Applause] rebound students love when those guys don’t get a lot of minutes get in the game and do something special zingar with the catch and he’s [Applause]

Fouled on the other side for the Blue Demons well it gets no easier in this conference a game at Geor town this weekend and then kadon at Villanova Providence at Butler if I’m Tony Stubblefield though I’m telling my guys every game is an opportunity for us to surprise some

People and maybe even surprise ourselves I mean that that’s how you have to approach it that’s what’s great about conference play is every single night you can pop some teams you can sneak up on some teams and this season is not over for depal Yu sar from Molly hitting

Both making the most of his opportunity late look that that’s tough you sit on the bench almost two hours and then get in and have to knock down a couple of free throws and he makes them both look at this showing a little two three Zone working on things late and with

These guys getting some time who’s going to make the most of a [Applause] chance as Yukon will dribble it out and we talk about their balanced offense this the fourth time they’ve held an opponent under 60 points this season pretty special they can score the ball we know that we’ve documented it we’ve

Illustrated it but the defense still continues to be where Yukon is Head and Shoulders above most Connecticut begins 2024 with a dominant performance really impressive is just what the doctor ordered at home season’s not going to get any easier for anyone in the Big East cam Spencer with 20 Alex Caravan
