#NewYorkMets #DavidStearns #MLBOffseason

So I have this SAR underneath my eye I’ve had this for a few weeks and I went to the doctor to have it checked out and obviously I had to for the sake of a Mets to ask the doctor see if I had dry eye syndrome he looks me dead in the

Eyes and he says what the is dry eye syndrome so Billy eper good luck in court old pal episode 35 of the Mets weekly podcast 60 Minutes of honesty that is usually brutal roll the Intro So as for the usual house cleaning make sure to subscribe to the Mets weekly YouTube channel for the premiere of this very podcast every single week put on those post notifications for instant live streams for breaking news throughout the entire offseason follow us on Twitter Tik Tok and all of our

Individual links that are in the description so last week I Was Here solo I missed you guys I was here alone ranting by myself talking to myself I was starting to go insane Frank I’ve noticed you’ve been back to the YouTube scene recently I have yes uh there’s been a lot of

Stuff going on in the baseball world but not necessarily with the Mets I mean they like to te say oh we’re we’re eyeing this guy we have strong interest in someone else and were linked to that person but then end up with none of them uh it really seems that and we knew

Yamamoto was the main goal they didn’t get him and it’s it’s really you know where did they pivot to I mean that that’s what we talked about and they’ve been looking at guys some guys flying off the board others still to be determined but uh to me I I’ve been

Saying all the videos I just want to see them actually get some guys that we know Major League signings because are we G to be competitive or are we looking to just have a kind of okay year I mean that that’s really the main question they got to figure out you banked your

Whole offseason on one player that goes wrong then you’re just scrambling and you’re not willing to go out and just spend money somewhere else and you’re going to be like hey Mike vassel is my fifth starter right now you know that’s kind of what’s happening if we played

Baseball today Mike vassel or Jose buo he’s been making these debt moves which again every team needs to do which is fine but as a content creator and as a fan you know it sucks and you know backup plans now are falling The Outfield Market really hasn’t moved but

Again there’s I guess if you’re not going pitching it would be nice to just jump into the off the offensive market and this team is afraid to make trades so you can’t even be like well trade for this guy trade for this guy no every Prospect we have is just a bunch of

Adley Rutman and jrod God forbid we take one or two of them to get a player that can actually help us win pretty much just waiting it out for just the market to just get going for all of baseball because it’s been a very slow off season

For everyone we still just don’t know what direction David Sterns is looking to put this team in and I think that’s what’s really getting a lot of Mets fans antsy I am willing to trust him right now I need to see him do his job first and then I’ll completely judge him I

Wanted this guy for about two years to be in the Mets front office I am not going to throw him under the bus after two months or 3 months it’s definitely going to hit a lot of Mets fans patience and it has so far but we’ll see what

Happens in the future we’ll just get into the offseason stuff of what we have heard with all the rumors floating around day in day out I thought that we would just start with everything as a whole with the latest on the starting pitching market now last week after yoshinobu Yamamoto signed with Dodgers

The Mets were reportedly not expected to Pivot to high-end options such as Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery as reported free agency Target Lucas Geo ended up signing with Boston this week on a 2-year $ 38.5 million contract after the Mets were reportedly very aggressive in trying to Ink Gio as a fallback option

As other free agent options dwindle with pitchers like Frankie Monas stting with the Reds Martin Perez signing with the Pirates the Mets current course to fill a very thin rotation remain remains unclear as for available arms Mike pumo the New York Post reported that there is a strong possibility the Mets could

Employ a six-man rotation linking the Mets to tier 2 to tier three free agents such as sham manah Michael Lorenzen among others the Mets rotational depth chart currently stands with breakout ace kodai senga at the top joined by contact managing Lefty Jose kintana hard thrwing right-hander Luis srino and newly

Acquired pitcher from Milwaukee Adrien Hower the rest of the in-house option include Joey lucazi Tyler McGill Jose buo with Lefty David Peterson expected to be on the shelf for the first few months of the 2024 season you look at the options it’s a lot of dog dooo I

Mean there’s Bunch it’s fours and fives I mean you you didn’t want to jump the market and again this was very a pitching Market that was again kind of Yamamoto Monty Snell and then just I mean you got the Iguana dude which again you could go that route but

Again if you went the five again list say it’s a SGA deal you know similar five years $75 million to get the unproven guy I’d just rather spend more Monty but that’s me but again lorenzen’s fine Brandon Woodruff how the hell is this guy not signed like if this year

Does not matter why the hell is Brandon woodriff not Inked to a two-year three-year with mutual options and all that what the hell are you waiting for it makes so much sense he’s the best option and in like everyone seems we don’t know what the hell this year is

Why not go into next year n s you would have obviously a couple FR but then having Woodruff having a nice onew going into that off season with where you could find your Ace on the market protect yourself in 2025 but of the options especially you know we’re not

Trading for rental so that takes off a few guys and they’re just not going to make any trades which there’s a certain team that I would be on the phone with right now maybe we’ll get to them in another the next segment but of the free agent arms I mean injury risks domestic

Abusers just BP throwers I mean there’s it’s garbage you’re picking through you know James Paxton’s fine but can he stay healthy lorenzen’s a solid Innings eater do I would I hate that no but then you get you know Mani who’s coming off bad years yes he’s had some decent years in

Oakland but ever since he’s left Oakland hasn’t been kind of the same pitcher you know he’s working with drion let’s see what you know we’ll see what happens again Alex Wood like again it’s not sexy and you know they’re not going to trade Pro ects so these are the kind of guys

You’re looking at and it’s not good and we kind of knew going into the off season if you weren’t going after the top of the market the rest of the market wasn’t great especially if you’re not going in that trade market which this team is just afraid to not move assets

For term which there are some guys with term maybe we’ll I’ll let Frank go and then maybe make that discussion but they don’t seem to be wanting to make a trade I totally agree there isn’t too much to be excited about there is risk I mean

You could say oh Blake snow there’s a guy and he W sa young things like that I mean it it doesn’t matter for one year if the years before that were very suspect and very inconsistent I mean you can just say oh if the guy was great one

Year he’s automatically gonna be good the next year when he doesn’t have that proven track record of doing it year after year and none of these guys have that I mean we’ve seen all these guys have their struggles in the past few years and some of the guys that are

Decent you know they have that injury risk like I said if Brandon Woodruff was fully healthy first of all I don’t think the mess would even really be that in on him because I feel like so many other teams would be like okay this is a much

More high-end pitcher with a more proven track record that they be will to Shell out that big money so since he doesn’t help you this year you really are looking at like we call them more you know Reclamation projects more guys that oh well we could try to find something

They’re coming off bad years get back on track and the guy you know that really stands out someone like sha Mana you know you’re like you’re going up the bad years hopeing they can kind of get him to turn around because other than that a lot of these guys they just haven’t been

Great lately and that’s why it’s it’s kind of you do lean more towards the guys like sha iaga and guys like that because you’re like you know what these other guys are that from the major leagues they’re not great so you might as well possibly take a chance with

Those other guys who are you don’t know because with these guys you kind of know what you’re going to get for a majority of them especially with their age you know they’re not getting better so for that sake like as much as we liked Rich Hill you’re not signing a 44 year old

Guy at least I would hope not because we’ve seen how that goes you know same like them not bringing back Callis carasco you’re not going to bring in clubber you just look at down the line so many of these guys really up there in

Age and what I find S is that they say okay we want to do a six-man rotation and my thing is okay I’m all good at six-man rotation but you need six good arms they don’t even have five good arms right now so before you worry about

Let’s do a six rotation how about let’s do a five man rotation first let’s get that sorted out if you could do that and figure that out then okay then we can explore the six-man and I agree that it’s much more appealing for me in the

Trade market and again I don’t want them to settle for guys who just aren’t that great and guys that aren’t a good fit for their timeline and just because you Yamoto you shouldn’t force yourself to pick someone you’re not crazy about I feel like if you you’ve built up a

Pretty good for system it’s improving and you know a lot of these guys like we’ve talked about they play the same positions of players that you already have they’re not all going to play they’re not all going to be amazing they’re not all gonna stick so if you

Want to get some of the pictures you know like from Seattle you know or Dyan C from Chicago I talked about Corbin Burns you know I’d rather go for something like that at least I know I’m getting guys that I could trust compared to oh let me shell out six years to

Blake Snell and then he starts walking bars again he’s not the same pitcher that he was this past year I just don’t think it’s worth that risk uh you know you’re you’re taking a risk regardless whether you want to give up prospects or you want to sign guys who have have

Inconsistencies and things like that I just don’t think it’s worth it right now and it just thinks that it was such a topheavy market where if you did not get Yamamoto this is what you’re faced with and we kind of knew that but it’s just a a tough year that they’re looking at

Right now with the class well I mean I look at this Mets rotation right now it seems like they just have like these limited options of somebody that you can actually trust in a playoff series at this pace that they are going like we don’t really know if they are going to

Be able to contend against some of these other teams anyway so it’s not really one of my biggest concerns right now I want the Mets to do a six-man rotation I know that they are going to do a six-man rotation because I just looked it up while you guys were talking at the

Beginning since 2015 since David Sterns was their general manager SL uh president of baseball operations excluding 2020 different story David Sterns has implemented a six-man rotation with the Milwaukee prowers yeah but we don’t have Corbin Burns Brandon woodr Freddy peral to Wade my like just you know pict I’m aware I’m

Aware of that but they need to not the Brewers I mean that’s the thing that drives me nuts just because Sterns is here does not automatically mean you’re Milwaukee that that’s the thing that that really drives me insane we’re not I I hope that all of a sudden we have

Amazing pitching but I I just I hate that that’s like oh we did it here so now we have to do it over there what I’m saying is that you can’t you can’t exclude the James Paxton you can’t exclude the Luis srino you can’t exclude the Sha

When he’s been able to give pitcher consistency to guys who are in a six-man rotation like the the health should not be something that you worry about in a six-man rotation that’s not that’s not a big factor the struggles you have again it’s that extra day that has always been

A huge factor to gaining these consistencies in these pitches and when you look at some of these Milwaukee rotations ever since 2015 when Sterns was there every single one of them were making 15 plus star starts a year like the least amount every single year was

Their six man in the rotation who maybe they skipped a day who made 18 or 19 starts I think what the Mets really need to look at because of how much of a problem it was last year somebody who can go out there every week every six

Days and you don’t have any injury problems that guy was Lucas G Alo and he went to Boston for a very reasonable deal you can say what you want about G yes and have a good year this guy’s making the start would have done that too I’m not I’m not I’m not disagreeing

At all so that’s what that’s what I don’t get is that like okay here was an option that you need to pay five years six years for and he fits your your idea you know the six man rotation and they don’t do it for a reasonable contract

There is a possibility that that leas g Alo went up to them and said I want to pitch every 5 days there’s a possibility that happen because he wants to get his his his value up I’d say that this works a little bit more with implement ing

Lefties a little bit more cuz like lefties are kind of like these spotty five to six inning type of guys typically you know you can put them in every six days but like I I tweeted out like a like a yes list for starting pitching and obviously showa imanaga

There Brandon Woodruff i’ do that sha manah Alex Wood Michael Lorenzen Spencer Turnbull James Paxton Brad Keller and Vince Velasquez that those are like the main yes guys that I would like to see the Mets add if they could add three of those guys like these are the types of

Guys every single six days you can keep them healthy you can utilize their talents and assess Talent that’s something that David Sterns is known to do he doesn’t go after the flashy name just to be a flashy name like he ain’t going to Pivot to Blake Snell and shove

Six years in his face or shove eight ears at him like I think the angels are going to do with playing snow you know he’s not going to go after the guy like Jordan Montgomery he’s going to go after the guy with actual tools for Success it

May not be flashy it may not be a nice erra the way that he’s been able to implement this and given that consistency is with a six-man rotation there’s a possibility that that could happen so if you get a few mediocre arms and they become above average with the

Mets it’s a good value deal number one guy available right now who’s not Blake Snell or Montgomery who would you go for sha manah because he is Left-Handed uh because he is younger than a majority of these guys uh and he like we said he had

Some good years but it just worries me that these past two years have not been good uh you know so if if he really believes in Jeremy Hefner if Davis CERN really could you know find something get him back on track then sure but other than that again a lot of these guys

They’re they’re just not amazing to me I think a lot of them they either have injury risk uh they have age risk or just haven’t been great lately or you know again it’s like that off the field stuff you know guy like Mike cger uh we

Saw what happened with Julio heras we we know what happened with Marcus shom like they all have something else you know that does have to do with performance but still it’s a matter of like Clubhouse not getting in trouble or whatever having any drama like when it

Comes to New York that stuff it really amplifies you know it really could stand out you have a much better chance of having something like that happen so those guys you got to stay away from and again you just I mean Zack grank you 40

Years old like again a lot of these guys it’s just it’s just not a fit it really is and and Clay Kershaw you know he’s going back to the Dodgers at some point you know so it’s like he’s not even really out there you know so it just

Limits them so much it’s ridiculous and the fact that wood can’t P this year too like it it’s just again there like everyone has something attached to them as to why they’re not like a perfect fit yeah and again that’s the thing you can limit the quality with just a bunch of

Like like you can turn like one quality arm like we’re looking at one quality arm in Blake Snell where you can bring that that money and bring in two being sha Mania and Michael Lorenzen like you can do that you can utilize that in the quantity position like yeah they don’t

Have the best numbers recently but they do have the tools that can help you to succeed every single one of those guys that I listed like a minute ago are all like guys who can give you a recipe for success to get you strikeouts to get you

Ground balls to get you those outs that the Rays always talk about just getting me outs instead of innings how they can patch that together is with the quantity and I want to just I really say that it’s just a perfect scenario here to be in a six-man rotation because I just

Want to see one year where the rotation is healthy and we have five or six pitchers and we don’t have to worry about okay who’s pitching today who’s pitching who’s going on the mound who we plugging in this time because there’s always a spot there’s always a spot that

Was missing like there’s always a spot that that’s empty and they’re like okay we got to plug this guy in we got to plug this guy and we got to sign this guy we gotta trade for this guy I just want six men in a rotation that stay

Healthy with the extra day of rest and that’s it knowing the Mets they probably still will have injuries in a six-man rotation that’s their thing it’s been proven to give you at least 20 starts from six different if that’s the case the first pitcher you pick up should not

Be Lis saino who may have as many injury problems actually it should be I’ll tell you why because he gets the extra day of rest because he has the injury history get the extra day of course there’s there’s other things you got to you got

To have to bring in like guys who need to bounce back guys who have the injury history like how I see it from a from a six-man rotation you get that consistency how I see it is you get your twoa ER guy from the top who’s your Ace

In kodai senga who they already have plugged in here your two three to three and a halfs and then the rest of them are four if you can get a sub four a 4.5 from the the the bottom half of a six-man rotation that can give you

Enough consistency to not tax out your Bullpen and they all get an extra day of rest we see this Bullpen right now again another another piece to this this thing we’ll get into that there’s a few weapons there but you want to see an extra day res where some of these guys

Can like continue to six Innings when they typically give you four like if you can get six Innings every six days instead of five innings every five days that’s what I’m going to go for and when you have the top of your rotation in kodai Sanga who’s used to pitching once

Every once every week like I’m all for that like I want to keep my Ace comfortable like I’m not trying to kill him like we almost did with Jacob deg Grom I’m not trying to kill him like we did with Noah synar I’m not trying to

Almost kill him like we did with Zack Wheeler or completely kill him like we did with Matt Harvey like I think it’s more of a PTSD of like that fiveman rotation not having like just having one time through that they did a six man at

One point though and it was it was brief it wasn’t consistent though that’s the thing yeah I I think that if uh the six-man if it was as much a I would say guaranteed but if had a higher probability of all your guys making it through I think it’d be more prevalent

Than we see it right now it also gives you one less spot in the bullpen that Drew Smith could possibly be in for most of the year like you know I mean yeah I’m all for that I mean yeah s me up if you like from what I from

What I’ve seen like the pitching just never seemed to be the problem with any of these six men rotations that were under Sterns so it has a proven track record of being consistent now listen we all know that the Mets are the ones that defy all statistics you know you got to

Try something at one point when we all know that yeah the pitching consistency the pitching development’s always been a problem well we all know that the health is one of the biggest problems s that they’ve had for a long long long time we saw it firsthand with that young

Rotation when they came up through the majors and it just all dismantled one year at a time now they’re all gone and you now start off from scratch with of course Koda at the top this is the perfect position to do a six-man rotation that’s why I think that

Bringing in a few guys who had a 5 ER last year I don’t think that that’s something that you can just completely negate unless they’re just not that good at all but what I’ve seen so far from all the pitching additions that Sterns have made they all have tools that can

Be a recipe for Success we just have to see him do that here first but I there hasn’t been a single addition he’s made so far that I’m like what the hell is this for like what what what are we what are we doing here like there’s always

There’s always something that some of these arms have that I’m okay with like I’m okay with them adding them on a minor contract I’m okay with them on a one-year deal you know we we’ll see what they do with this because there still is

A lot of spots I don’t want to see you know the in-house depth that you look at right now with Jose budo and you know uh Joey lucazi like I don’t want to see that on the opening day roster if you have your injuries you have your injuries but hasn’t really been proven

To have that many injuries in a six-man rotation and that’s what I really think that the bets need right now especially with unproven pitching prospects and you know just depth options that are just not that good so it’s time to continue the broken record phrases that we have

Had for like 5 years in the making the Mets have failed to provide Power Protection for their All-Star slugging first baseman pet Alonzo since the very beginning with a wide selection of power options on the free agent Market the Mets have reportedly been eyeing veteran bat JD Martinez as a potential DH Target

The Mets are among three teams in on Martinez along with the angels and Diamondbacks who are also looking to add an impact bat to their lineup up with the likes of David Ortiz and yordan Alvarez Martinez has cemented himself at as one of the best designated hitters of

This generation across 13 years slashing 287 350 424 with a career one 32 weighted runs created plus with over 300 career home runs over 1,000 runs batted in in over, 1500 games play last year Martinez added another career year to his Ledger after signing a one-year deal

With the Dodgers posting an 893 Ops with 62 extra base hits and smashing 36 home runs across 47 n plate appearances in 2023 this isn’t the first time the Mets have been linked to the 36-year-old Martinez as they reportedly tried to acquire him at the 2022 trade deadline

Before backing off due to a high asking price from Boston since the universal DH was implemented the Mets have had 11 different players suited up in the position as Mets dh’s are 23rd in batting average 18th in Ops 20th in home runs and 22nd and weighted runs created

Plus in that space for me uh it’s another situation where you look at what the Mets have in house you look at some of the other names are available Jamie Martinez I like him he isn’t my first option though I mean I’ve been on board saying that you know obviously I prefer

Jorge Solair you know I prefer Jack Peterson I’d rather them Target those guys who are a little younger but what I do like about JD Martinez you know maybe an old saying but perennial Allstar you can’t say that about pretty much any other Mets hitter you know other than Pete Alonzo and Lindor

But other than that a lot of these guys for DH you can’t sub anyone and I just think that it’s such a risk for me if I’m gonna actually be employing DJ Stewart almost every day with some Mark Vientos and Vientos again he has power there’s no doubt about it but

Consistently and he again has he gotten the consistent playing time to do it not enough so I think again if you want to do a one-year deal like we say no such bad thing as a one-year deal he will give you so much more than what

Everybody else on this team gives I I just think that this team has such a glaring weakness such a glaring need he fits it and if it’s a one-year deal how could you say no uh that’s the way I view it so despite the age uh the fact

That he had a better year than 2021 I think is a good sign because it’s one thing that okay you know 2022 he had the best second half maybe his back was bothering him things like that but the fact that he was better than 2021 at his

Advanced age I think that’s a really good sign you know yes he did with the Dodgers but this guy gave you over 30 home runs in only 113 games I mean that that’s really good uh so I think that again he’s someone who a teams they game

Plan for they say okay you know we really don’t want to face JD Martinez in a really good position which is what they need after Pete Alonzo someone who pitchers will think twice about just groov on to Meanwhile the guys are baded behind him we’ve talked about extensively Dominic Smith uh Darren rth

All these guys any your vog go back no fear I mean it’s like you know what don’t need to pitch to Alonzo we’ll just face a bum right after him that’s not the case with JD Martinez so I feel just the fact that he gives you that presence

That we’ve been talking about for one year I mean how does that how’s that not work out so to me I think it’s a a pretty seamless fit but we’ll see what happens I mean you say perennial Allstar I would just say like at the top of my head just say perennial wrecker

Like this guy has just been so good for so long which is what the Mets have always needed you know like every year he’s always very very good against left-handed pitching so again he makes the fit even better yeah he can also hit right-handed but like isn’t it crazy to

Have like like you can do both you know like a balanced hitter like I’m more for it because I prefer this much better than Justin Turner because the DH it’s I get why people want turner oh they have the insurance with JD or batty and whoever the hell is play their base yes

But I’ve always viewed it as just who do I want as my DH not giving a about helping young players who do I put in that position to up Justin Turner could have a very nice year would he be you know he’ll have the higher batting average or whatever JD Martinez

I know can hit 25 to 30 homers guaranteed in this Ballpark and again leadership value I don’t give a about this crap you do that when you’re he had and that’s that’s the thing though he has great leadership he’s actually an awesome Clubhouse guy do I give a about that no when I’m

Putting a team together I just want Talent yes there’s some lock room stuff there are specific guys obviously on the free your Market you don’t want to touch yes but when you’re in a point in a pet Alonzo walk and and unknown again if you

Are trying to compete like we say it all the time like we’ve talked about in the pitching why are you settling for the second or third best option if you find you want somebody and if they’re not going on Solair because Solair probably gets a fouryear deal teo’s probably

Getting a four-year deal especially what Lord has set the market as if they’re not willing to go that and we’ll get to a guy we’re GNA talk about in the next segment I would prefer JD and that guy than let’s say Justin Turner and pick one of the shittier outfielders like K

Off the board pick your like lesser outfielders because they’re not going to go out and get or even Sol there as much as we might pound the freaking ground for it he’s going to get term and the Mets are allergic to term for you know a

Guy who most time a DHS he could play the corner he’s not great but for me if you go out and get the best option or and if this is what they value and if you are trying to compete then this is the guy if you’re developing

Then go with Justin Turner but if this is the move to say you know we are trying to compete we want to protect Pete we want to make this lineup better and this is a guy who’s proven it in the postseason and it’s proven it stretches

He can go he could wreck a two- Monon stretch we saw it when he went to Arizona this is a game Chang yes that’s a what 2018 when did he get traded to Arizona 2018 17 after the deadline 2017 so like he can carry a team like he did

Plus he would put that bat he would be kind of the third or fourth most important bat because you would like obviously Pete Lindor you can arguably Nemo and him could be battling for that three and four spot a most valuable bat in the lineup and if you are trying to

Compete this is the piece you want to go out because again you’re not saying oh we want this guy because oh he can help develop Third Base position like no you go out and get JD Martinez because he’s the best bat for the DH position yeah I

Mean it’s just one of the best of the generation at that position like if you are looking to fix something you might as well get the best one out of there and to be honest if they do get somebody like JD Martinez that gives you a little

Bit more hope of they trying to maybe make a little bit more of a competitive team than you thought like yeah we’ve seen them connected to a few other uh pieces on the market nothing like too crazy especially with bats this this is the one of the first bats that we’ve

Seen the Mets actually connected to what I really liked I mean this guy had what is his seven 1700 Ops when he hits the ball in the air last year I mean for God’s sake I mean we have not seen somebody like that besides ped Alonzo

Who has been able to do that and I mean that’s a career high when he puts the ball in the air like that was a career high by Miles I mean again I I understand it is the Dodgers and the Dodgers have been able to get the best

Out of players but we’ve seen a really sustainable career from JD Martinez where yeah if he’s not playing the field you know you can get a lot of production you know if you’re putting this guy in the five spot if you’re putting this guy in the four spot to protect pet Alonzo

This is a feared hitter you can put behind him the only problem I’ve always had with JD Martinez it’s always been the hell he just always scares the living crap out of me and especially if this is going to be your main bat to protect Pete Alonzo which I mean I hope

They get two but you know what if you’re going to get one that has power then you know what Beggars can’t be choosers at this point because I’ve just needed that that secondary power source for a long time but if this is the guy that you’re

Going to go after if he’s hurt I mean what do you got protecting him I understand you got some young players and Vientos and this and that but the unproven guys who we have seen especially like if he gets hurt at the wrong time like come postseason time

That sucks like that really does suck but from what the results that we’ve seen throughout his entire career and it doesn’t seem like he’s slowing down anytime soon you know regarding the Met’s curse or whatever it’s someone you can definitely bring in I’m scared of the health I’m always scared of the

Health but as long as you’re not putting him out there in the Outfield as long as you’re not having him do extra I’m fine with it if you get JD Martinez and another outfielder I’m fine but if JD Martinez is going to be your right Fielder after Marte has like another

Injury or something that’s an issue that is definitely an issue I’m not putting a 37-year-old JD Martinez in right field to replace and already banged up Starling Marte who has regressed these last this last year so if the Mets are looking at this as just a pure DH option

And I looked at it as a pure DH this is going to be what Daniel vogelbach was doing but just better and actually ented and not fat replacing that going from Daniel vobach to JD Martinez instant upgrade no matter what whether he struggles or not he still will provide I

Will 100% guarantee you that a struggling JD Martinez would produce way better than Daniel vabo at his best and Darren Ruff because don’t forget they were a team you know against lefties you had Ruff out there meanwhile no matter what you have J against lefties

Yep so you better both of them come on there’s a few things that concern me about JD Martinez he’s not the number one guy I would go after but I know that if he sees a pitch in the strike zone he’s going to swing at it a guy who’s

Been in the league for a long time he has good pitch selection and good pitch recognition he’s been a good hitter for a long time and listen this is the guy right here if you want to put him behind Alonzo he’s also got the postseason experience and if you are looking for

Postseason bats that do well in the postseason JD Martinez is that guy and I definitely will be a little bit more confident what they’re building into this lineup if they were to bring in somebody like JD Martinez if they have JD Martinez DJ stw’s got to start in

Triple A as much as I like DJ St as a solid bat I mean are you guys good with would you be good with DJ St like backing up JD Martinez if he were to get hurt I don’t think you sign to strictly dh’s when it comes to when you’re

Approaching can play some of the Outfield but I’m just saying he can no that’s what I’m saying that so you know that JD Martinez is going to miss sometime you know he will he has being the backup because you’re not going to sign two DHS like I’m not going

To sign JD and sign another DH so that then DJ st’s the number three option so because right now my fear is that DJ St end up in the outfit so that’s why they need multiple bats because again they have multiple openings so you can’t have

Two guys in one spot I’m trying to figure out like if they have I mean they’ve talked about wanting to on an outfielder and a DH is two separate things which I’m happy that they are doing that I’m hoping that they don’t think that Tyrone Taylor is that Alf

Yeah I I I think they see him as a as a fourth outfielder because I think Sterns had him in Milwaukee and he was a fourth outfielder there so I don’t think he’s going to try to push him beyond that capacity I mean he’s what 28 years old

They know what type of player he is so if he is your your starting right fielder your starting left fielder that’s an issue but I’m GNA hope that they go onto this market and get somebody else that can start in left field or right field because Tyrone

Taylor solid fourth outfielder but I do not want to be seeing him uh start on a regular basis as for other players that the Mets are interested in ever since the devastating injury to prospect Ronnie Mauricio the Mets have been in the market for a veteran infielder Mark

W Sanchez of the New York Post reported this week that the Mets are showing interest in free agent third baseman Gio orella orella is coming off of an injury plague 2023 with the angels across 62 games where he / 299 329 374 with a 92 weighted runs created Plus in

228 plate appearances with his season ending early due to a fractured hip injury orella is now 32 years old as still a high impact Defender with a career 10 defensive run saved at third base and can also rotate around the infield as talks with veteran infielder and former met Justin Turner seemed to

Have quiet down for the Mets other veteran infield options on the free agent Market also include Evan Longoria Jean sigura Mike mustakis Josh Donaldson among others with maceio on the Shelf the Mets are expected to give a majority of the third base playing time to former top prospect Brett batty as well as

Newly added utility man Joey Wendell it’s a name we’ve obviously brought up before the report you’ve brought them up there’s of the kind of depth Third Base extra infield option he’s the youngest he giv gives you the most positional flexibility compared to a guy like Longo

Or Josh Donaldson or Mike m must is been at his age he do not playing second base but he gives you the ability can play second can play short can play Third and you know just in case of emergency you know Lindor gets hurt you know you need

A short stop because you we always have to be ready for those emergencies even though he’s not the greatest at short but he can play it which is fine um offensively you know we had those good years in New York at baby Park but you know ever since he’s left he still had

Good batting average so we know we’d love me some good batting averages so I mean do I hate it no but like again like I said in the last segment if I’m taking let’s say Oella and JD Martinez over a Justin Turner Michael a Taylor I like

That bundle more than I like the obviously I said with Turner but and he is still good said he’s still good defensively at third base which had the position defense and obviously has was teammates with Lindor so have a good defensive left side of the infielder infield with him and Lindor plus you

Would have wend though so year improving the defense and the Run prevention so he hits that obvious big check mark for David Sterns wow boring ass defense who giv a be the Phillies just hit nukes defense wait I thought Sterns was lying to everyone gar is giving a about

Defense almost like he’s been saying the same thing over and over again be the Phillies bro nobody gives a about defense just have Alec bow play Third Base and have 40 30 nukes that’s all we care about but besides would you rather your GM lie to you yes because every GM

Lies so yeah oh yeah with the robust Rel robust relief Market yeah personally I’m always gonna go Longo but for the best option I do think it is Rella because again position flexibility and has played in New York so he knows how to play and having a friendship or at least

A being a former teammate of Lindor a lot of boxes he checks um again is he sexy no but again this is what this offseason’s been it’s a buch of that looks like on paper with no Stu no uh no fun this so do what I hate it

No is it a fine edition if it happens again he’s better than Joey Wendell so again to push Joey Wendell as far down depth chart I’m all four so and he gives you some more flexibility so I don’t hate it I mean unfortunately like we said ryus injury really messes up a lot

Of things and it really just thinks that if Brett batty could have actually did what they’d hoped he would do and be the third baseman of the future you wouldn’t really have to pursue a guy like J relle you would have to pursue Justin Turner because you have your third baseman but

I think that at least with Ella he is able to push Brett batty to the point where at least you have another option that’s going to give you something you know in the chance that Brett batty just totally just isn’t giving you much at least you’re gonna get something and day

In day out you’ll get good defense which you know you’re not going to get it from batty and if Batty’s not if he’s not contributing offensively then what’s he really giving you you know so at least you’re G to have a good glove and a guy

Who again in in baby Park and a Juiced ball he had home runs lately it’s just been batting average but again at least I’m getting something offensively so you know the fact that I’m just getting at least a little bit offensively with solid defense uh and hoping that Brett

Batty could actually like take the job from him at some point if he does get it going maybe like in the middle of the season in the second half what have you then okay Le at least you just have another option you know I I just don’t

Love going into with the idea of okay Brett Betty is our only option and if he doesn’t get the job done and he struggles again oh well he’s our third baseman you know I I don’t like that approach so at least Ella just gives them that second opportunity and it’s a big gear

For him you know I think if you get him on the short-term deal coming off the injury you know orell is gonna be playing for a multi-year contract because he’s not 39 at 40 like you know we talked about with Donaldson and Longoria and these guys like those guys

Are playing for short-term deals Ella he told him to get a nice little bounce back gear so another team can give up a multi-year contract so I think he definitely would fit that and like he said the fact that he’s played in New York before that’s always a big plus

This way they at least know what to expect it’s not going to totally catch them by surprise you know I I love that and anytime the guy playing right next to Lindor has a good relationship with Lindor again that’s perfect so for me again like we say no such bad thing as a

One-year deal even if it’s a two-year deal with the second year being kind of incentive based or Mutual what have you I’m good with that just because again I feel like they need to do something uh this way they’re not just totally relying on Brett batty as the only

Option here I think that if they do believe in Brett batty I don’t but if they do believe in Brett batty as their future third baseman I think that orella is the perfect and I mean perfect guy that could push a guy like Brett P to

That next level I think that that is a perfect I wouldn’t say Mentor but like that is the perfect guy that you can install here a guy who can play multiple positions in the infield he’s 32 years old he might have a little bit left in

Him to do it he can provide you some offense he can provide you a little bit of power he can provide you a little bit of that at worst he’s batting e3e if he’s starting every day and Brett batty continues to struggle the thing is we

Didn’t see much of the power last year he was banged up he had the whole hip thing but when I see like when I see like the last three years you know you’re getting 429 slugging you’re getting you know 419 490 those last few

Years when I look out of here is that I see someone who can be a solid bottom third of the order hitter at best he can also provide some defense in the infield best at third base he can give you some short stop in an emergency he could play

Some second base for you we’ve seen him play some first base so he can go around the infield and provide you a little bit of value that way and I think he can do it a lot better than Luis goret did at its best this could be your as droal

Cabrera positional flexibility give you a plus from every single position this could be yours droal cabrer but it’s going to be at the bottom of the lineup because you’re not owned by the pawns anymore and he’s going to make the the lineup deep and he’s not going to be one

Of the main weapons I think that this is the perfect piece that can push Brett batty if you believe in Brett batty this is the perfect guy to bring in maybe Justin Turner is a guy who pushes Brett batty but I don’t think so I think it pushes more Mark Vientos than Brett

Batty if you are trying to push your top prospect in Brett batty to be a better third baseman this is your guy let’s also not for forget we we also mentioned it he has a relationship with Carlos Mendoza and he has a relationship with Francisco Lindor again this can’t be the

Only bat you bring in am I taking Gio orella of what he’s been able to provide in his career so far over the value that you were getting from Luis gor hell yeah I am on a one-year deal absolutely again if this could be your guy who travels around the infield if

Somebody is struggling you can plug him in bat him eth it’s a perfect fit and I think this is the perfect third baseman infielder type of guy to push a player like Brett batty because he has something to prove as well let’s not forget he’s had some injuries recently

He’s been had trouble staying on the field throughout his entire career on a one-year deal if he sucks you just cut him bring in a pivotal point where you can catch lightning in a bottle I think Gio orella could do that a lot better than Josh Donaldson whose days are

Behind him Longoria who’s had has one foot out the door for retirement Mike mustakis we all know he’s old as orella 32 years old we know he has a little bit left in the tank and I think that that would be a perfect fit so along with starting pitching the Mets

Are also in need of relief pitching this offseason as we currently stand the construction of the Mets Bull Pen is very Bleak going into 2024 with a variety of minor league additions we have a few notable locks for now headline by star closer Edwin Diaz returning from an injury and Southpaw

Sid Slinger Brooks rayy who was brought back on a $6.5 million team option for 2024 the Mets also added hard thrwing Sinker baller J Lopez on a one-year deal and right-handed pitcher Austin Adams on a one-year Major League contract in addition to Lopez and Adams the Mets also signed right-handed pitcher Michael

Tonen to a one-year pro-rated split contract as well as other minor league signings including Kyle cck Andre scrub Cole Soler and acquiring Johan Ramirez from the white socks for cash considerations with the gut-wrenching loss of Edwin Diaz the bullpen was abysmal in 2023 as Mets relievers were

22nd in earn run average 24th in Fielding independent pitching 24th in highest home runs per nine and 29th in wins above replacement all types of pitching will continue to be a high point of emphasis this offseason under President of baseball operations David Sterns who is a highly innovated

Executive known for his roles in pitching development and overall Talent assessment you look at the Mets B pen right now you got Diaz you got Ry you have Lopez and Adams who are most likely going to have roles on this team Drew Smith still exist for some reason you

Have relievers on the market you got your high tiers your low tiers this or that who you would add to this Bullpen to be the Frontline piece go get Robert Stevenson at this point you know a guy does velocity go add another high leverage arm yes you could say he’s a

Raised Merchant which a lot of these pitches that oh fixed by Tampa Bay then go other places aren’t his good but again former top prospect flopped around jumped around to a couple teams then Tampa Bay just turns him into an elite reliever uh it’s probably going to cost

Term which again I don’t think that Mr dumpster Dave is going to like or do but if you’re telling all kind of Andrew you get to pick your reliever uh again Stephenson I don’t like that he doesn’t have any closers experience because I think the Robertson

Role that I said has to have some guy who in the ninth inning you can trust which again if that guy’s dead then that doesn’t help but again just to have another one of these younger High leverage arms which again Drew Smith down the pecking order you know keep

Adding a bunch of guys and there’s plenty of guys I know Frank is AIS but there’s some veteran old man arms that I would take a flyer on and again there’s another Tampa Bay Ray which maybe we’ll get another guy if I get a second chance but for me you add Robert Stevenson

Again just seventh eighth inning guy you got your big three and I would put Lopez in that kind of like upper class seventh inning rle guy I mean yes he’s has that kind of a Clos experience he had that great year with Baltimore but again Stevenson can just be of the high

Leverage arm you at the middle of this Bullpen which has always been kind of the death of the Mets Bullpen it’s like you’ve had a decent backand it’s just those six seventh and eighth inning that have been kind of the sixth and seventh the the death spot so to have a guy that

Can be in that role is kind of who I would prioritize the only reliever that I I’d be really all in in is is Jordan Hicks I just feel like with the age the stuff the versatility I I feel like because like you talked about you have

Diaz and you have your Brooks rayley for sure then Hy Lopez you’re hoping for the bounce back outside of that you don’t know who else you’re going to rely on and what their roles are going to be and what I like about with Hicks is that he

Could kind of give you any role it’s like okay you got your pitcher deep into the game okay Hicks could help Diaz close out oh your pitcher didn’t go deep into the game H could do that long relief oh you need middle relief like you can kind of just put him wherever

You need based off the situation which I think is really important you can’t be so caught up by like okay this guy’s in the seventh This Guy’s in the eth This Guy’s in the ninth the M don’t have that Bullpen right now they have so many like

Openings right now that they just need somebody who could kind of be that Swiss army knife and kind of be everywhere so for me I I just feel like he should be the top priority and then if we’re GNA get into later I do have some other guys

I’m looking at but he’s the one guy I’d be like okay we need so many things we might as well get someone who can kind of cover us in a lot of different areas Stevenson is definitely the top of my list I’d also go for Hector narice even though everybody has just narratives

Against him heart attack Hector he may look like against the Mets but he’s actually a really good reliever had a fantastic year with the Astros last year think of the team he went to though the Astros like who doesn’t have a fantastic year with the as the Mets are not the

Astros hey Frank who is your president of baseball operations listen I’ll believe it when I see it if all of a sudden everyone all a Milwaukee for like over if he turns Smith yeah but it’s not just Davis Sterns he’s not the coach he’s not the pitching coach he’s not the

Guys developing the guys in the minor leagues that’s not Sterns he may find someone who has some appealing stuff but then it’s a matter of the culture is actually getting it out of them I mean in Houston they got more than just coaching we know that me listen I’m

Aware of that but of course I’m not going all in for a reliever if it if it if they’re asking for you know five years like Josh hater if they’re asking for this term no the relief pitching the the only guy that I think that I would

Just go after is Robert Stevenson just because there’s just so much upside there like this this guy currently when you look at it 31 years old he’s in that reliever prime stage he’s a former highly touted Prospect I’m not really like worried about the whole Narrative

Of the raised fixum now he’s going to be somewhere else I think that the Mets actually wanted to stretch out the tools of of possible relievers I think that shintaro fujinami is the the perfect project if you want him he can be a high leverage reliever with the

Stuff that he has you can piece this together with a bunch of no names like if there’s a Frontline guy out there that you can get if it’s Hector nerice or whether it is uh Jordan Hicks or whether it is if there’s a guy that you can guarantee to be like right-handed

Weapon to Edwin Diaz there’s no point of like going big on on the free agent market for relievers I think that they you can turn anybody into an elite reliever on a one-year deal again they just need to utilize talent and not do it based off of based off of this guy

Had a good RA last year he’s going to do it again like that that’s just it’s just not going to happen because of how finicky relievers are and how in that’s the best way to look at it is tools with relievers because it’s just so hard to

Tell if a guy is going to be effective or not out of the bullpen you have some of your sustainable pieces who have been a dominant for a long time but they’re hard to come by so if the Mets actually wanted to build a bullpen based off of

Assessing actual talent and not track record again I’m fine with this and that’s what I’m really happy they did with J Lopez if you are going to give big bucks to somebody it’s going to be a starting picture like I’m I’m definitely expecting them to do that if they were

To get a multi-year deal Stevenson nerice Hicks we haven’t even said anything about Ryan stanic if you want to add in an arm that he see something in I’m probably going to trust him in that regard Austin Adams there’s a strong possibility that this guy turns

Out to be the second best reliever in our pen maybe our best reliever there’s a possibility where that happens and like under Sterns I think that that is possible when you look at the previous general manager you look at the previous regime with Billy eper he can’t assess

Talent wor David Sterns this is what he’s been able to do so if he sees stuff that he can assess then then it can be app applied on the field six times out of 10 seven times out of 10 I I don’t think he’s just throwing darts

At a board bringing in guys to bring them in if you see a few of those guys on the free agent Market freaking go for it I would say that another guy who has that Milwaukee connection that I’d be looking at a guy like Brent suder I mean

Here’s a guy who’s ay he’s a little tricky I I think he would be another nice change of pace just another guy who would definitely bring something different uh to the Mets that we haven’t really seen I mean side of Someone Like You Know Brooks rayley other than that I

Feel like if someone that you know Sterns has evaluated feels like he trust he kind of knows what he is I I feel should be another guy you could probably get on that lower level deal I I was going to mention stanic you were you talked about him even a guy like Carl

Edwards he’s had his ups and downs at least he’s someone that I I trust more than Drew Smith a lot of the other guys that we’ve seen uh I wonder if a guy like uh you know L trino could be an interesting bounceback candidate or even

Want go real crazy guy like Matt Barnes like got to really try to go these big time bounceback cats who were good Once Upon a Time you know there are those older guys that are available like that uh because again like we’ve talked about a lot of these other guys it’s been a

Struggle for a while now or their age is just too much that you really just know their best years are behind them like adino for example definitely would not go anywhere near him so that’s really where they’re again Jesse Chavez 40 years old like no thank you he’s been

Good with the Braves but no you know so they’re just some of those guys that you really again David Robinson we talked about I I’d give Amir Garrett a call too I’m not I’m not going to lie I mean I i’ do it too because like again these are

Fixable tools that you can you know have in a bullpen if you’ve seen something from them and you can get that type of consistency I’m all for it like that again it’s just I think that if the Mets you know if they really want to build a

Consistent winner they have to go off of again sustained tools they can’t go off of Adam adino has had a near Hall of Fame career David Robertson is this you know this guy had a good RA this guy had this many saves this guy was this like

They can’t go off of that you need to look at things that you can project for the future and that’s the only way that you can look at it because again on the free agent Market these guys get what they’ve earned they don’t get what they’re going to do for you you always

Take a lottery ticket out on signing one of these guys in free agency because of that’s just how relievers are because that’s just the way to Harbor into the that finicky reliever you type of pattern of if this guy is actually going to be good or not next year like we all

Knew that it was going to be obvious that Adam adino was not going to be good the next year like we all knew that it was obvious you know if somebody was gonna regress or not you need to find out if these guys have the sustainable tools to provide quality Innings provide

Quality outings for you out of the bullpen because we’re going to need that so now it’s time for I think it’s probably my favorite thing that we’ve done on here which is the lineup card nine topics based on the Mets uh Andrew and Frank go back and fourth Andrew I’ll

Start with you one through nine it’s all yours seven seven all right this one goes to the GM perfect talked about this last week we saw in recent reports that Francisco Alvarez is open to possibly signing an extension with the Mets construct a Francisco Alvarez contract extension it’s the hard thing with

Catchers like I obviously I would love to get Alvarez extended long term so it’s like that’s the weird thing with the catching Market because JT’s contract was what six at like 10 and something five years one yeah some like that I mean if you want to throw

Seven 70 over seven do $10 million a year kind of a Braves type deal that would be kind of the starting point go8 by 80 if you want to do that to get two extra years of Team control I’m I think he would take that in a heartbeat and if

You want to do that kind of Braves thing that would be a Braves type deal hey you’re a good Prospect $10 million a year so you know you can make it kind of 10 12 maybe 13 million a year roll it over six s eight it’s kind of depend how

Long you want to get this term it is also the catching position which is again a position that you get beat to hell you know I’m for it obviously keep him as long as possible and the fact that he’s 21 you can give him a 10-year

Deal if you wanted to and he’d be 31 so he’d still be kind of at the tail end of his prime if you wanted to give him a 10-year deal so for any point seven to n years a call it anywhere from 11 to maybe 14 Frank is this a lifetime deal

Is this your yachty aolina I hope so I mean I just feel like he’s been uh such a even in the first year what more could you want I mean it is not something that you do every day where you get a a homegrown catcher who could provide you

That kind of offense while also still being solid on the defensive end I feel like he’s just a guy that really you should prioritize the fact that could do it in a New York uniform I I Feel Like The Best Is Yet To Come with this guy so

I feel like trying to get out in front of it should be a priority before if he puts together year after you know good year after Good Year all of a sudden the value goes even up and you got to pay even more so I think kind of like and

Like the Braves do you get ahead of it we’ve seen guys get contract extension before even playing their first major league game so for me I I I don’t think why there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be trying to do this contract extension as soon as possible because it will end

Up helping you out in the long run which is the way that they should be approaching this with the kind of team that they have so I kind of like the idea of like you know the seven years eight years around 13 million or so 14 million I feel like that’s definitely a

Really good Ballpark and with a guy that’s only his second year in the league that ends up being a big raise for somebody like that compared to you know someone off the previously Market if they just had some major league deals not so much as a raise but to these guys

Like wow that that’s a big increase so they’re hopefully a little more likely to take it I don’t really know how the this could to be one of the first tests of how the Bad Bunny agency approaches things if they’re willing to accept these like you know Hometown young

Player discount whatever you want to call it if they’re if they’re willing to accept that or really try to you know push it out more like a Boris kind of thing we’ll find out you because it’s kind of unknown with this being a relatively new baseball Agency Group

Representing a player so again I hope they could get it done as soon as possible so that they can save that value because he is someone that I would prioritize trying to keep long term for sure yeah I mean out of all the prospects we know that he has pretty

Much been the only one to grab the job and we know that he’s going to be here he’s your catch of the future like I mean it didn’t take much obviously but obviously I had an entire segment about this last week I think it all has to

Depend on if the Orioles pay adley or if the Dbacks pay Moreno what they give to what they give to them as for long-term extensions so I think that’s what you have to look at like the young catcher but I said straight up 8 years 85

Million that makes him a what 29y old free agent 30y old free agent it’s a little bit over 10 million which is like what some of the best catchers in baseball are getting guar it’s a guaranteed investment to give you a catcher that is going to be one of the

Best in the league like this is your best shot at it there’s a good chance that he’s going to be one of the best catchers in all of baseball during this type of contract extension so if you’re giving him a little bit above 10 million a year you know we’ve seen that Sterns

Like these type of deals so Frank it’s your board seven is gone let’s take Francisco Au number four perfect transition which free agent bat would you rather pursue if you are the Mets jock Peterson or Jor cair to defensively challenged outfielders who can provide

You a lot of Pop both on the free agent Market yeah uh for me it’s it’s definitely hor Solair I mean this is a guy that you like we’ve talked about uh one guy who May challenge Pete Alonzo like if the Mets signs Solair he’s the

One guy who could actually have a little bit of competition F out as far as who get the most home runs this year I mean he has that kind of power we’re we’re not talking 25 home runs we’re not talking 30 we’re talking like a 40 home

Run bat you know and a guy who’s done it in the National League East you know with the Marlins and with the Braves and just ever it goes He seems to have power and for me it’s like okay he may do a majority of the issue but at least he

Could give you some left field which again we know the Mexico needs some Corner Outfield so the fact he could do it every now and then I think is really important and what separates him from Jack Peterson is just the fact that Solair excels against left-handed pitching which again the Mets have

Struggled meanwhile Jack Pearson struggles against left-handed pitching so I think for the sake of what the Mets need and and really facing lefties I think Solair is such a great fit that even if it was know three years four years it’s like what does it matter I

Mean we don’t we don’t really have that that many Big Time contracts right now as far as you know guys years down the road I we we knew about you know nmo Lindor Diaz hopefully Alonzo so I mean why not I mean that’s the way I look at

It this is a guy that he’s definitely going to help you with the age that he has he could help you in the next few years and if he’s dhing you’re not and most of DH I should say you’re not really too worried about health and

Things like that hopefully uh so for me I feel like he’s such a great fit for this team I I would love to see him here I I don’t think it’s gonna happen but I would like to see it happen these are two postseason cornerstones right here

But yeah hor Solair is the option it’s the jock is older and yes they’re both just defensive cluts I’m not putting I mean you can put them out there I just let him hit fat nukes and be done that’s what I would do but again like you said

Both guys show up in a postseason both guys hit absolute piss missiles but again like Frank said I think jock is in that 25 category maybe occasional 30 where George is hitting 50 can can easily hit 50 you a smaller ballpark put him at City Field it’s a smaller

Ballpark in Miami he just hit what 46 in Miami you go to City Field maybe you do push that 5050 number and I mean you could play the game of putting him a I we keep say Protect Pete I mean what the opposite and Sh imagine you put Pete

Behind hor Solair but again obviously we’re trying to protect Pete but yeah for me it’s Solair and it’s you know not close even though I do like jock let’s go I guess it let’s just go number one in your opinion who is the best Prospect in the Mets farm system we have

A youth movement coming up you know what let’s go let’s just go crazy play Tidwell cuz is the only one I like that has upside again Drew Gilbert’s probably answer and Frank probably say that so I’ll go different I’ll go blade I think again he’s the highest upside

Pitcher in the system and desperate need for the pitching did see him I’ve seen him get the rare met Prospect I’ve saw and play live I saw him in Brook and went on up there so for me he’s the highest upside arm I know you can you

Know you can go with your Drew Gilbert which is probably the right answer but just to be different I’m going to go blade dwell yeah I’m I’m definitely a fan of Drew Gilbert I just like the kind of player that he brings that nice Lefty swing and like we talked about the fact

That this team needs Outfield as badly as they do if they don’t do anything you may end up seeing Drew Gilbert on the team by the second half of the season if things go the way they can if Marte gets hurt they don’t make enough moves you

Might see this guy on the team and I just feel like he’s a guy that that personality I could see it fitting in New York just the GU of swagy has the way he’s doing those bat flip or something he get those nice home runs I

I’m just really excited for him I think he’s probably the overall best guy because like we talked about you know with aunia with jet Williams with a lot of these guys you’re hoping that you see the power whereas you know that Gilbert already has it so I I always like to try

To evaluate saying okay at least I know this guy has it where instead of worry about oh I hope this guy can develop it or get it I’ve never seen a 5 foot n guy turn on a baseball like that the way that he does Gilbert if he has a good

Spring training he has a really good chance of making this opening day roster that’s something that I’ve believed ever since they acquired him the best Prospect in the Mets farm system just got hurt like in my opinion the best Prospect out of the Mets farm system he’s played big time’s St rule he’s

Already played in the big league he’s no longer a prospect he’s still a prospect he’s still a prospect he did not he did not graduate he’s hit too big Le since he’s not healthy I mean I go with Drew I’d go with Drew Gilbert it probably is

The best like just fit like if it goes well it’s the best fit into this Mets lineup of somebody that they need somebody who’s very toolsy someone who could power somebody who can you know has a really good hitting profile I think that it’s the best probably the

Best guy that you can install into the lineup if all goes well again I don’t like plugging in prospects whatsoever but if there’s one guy that I can give the highest hopes to of being in an opening day lineup or being on the opening day roster it’s Drew Gilbert out

Of anybody right now uh on the top 10 especially with Rony Mauricio being out for it let’s do number five let’s go to some positivity we are in free agency we are in the off season the best free agency signing in the Steve Cohen era

That’s a tough one because a lot of the guys they’re not even here anymore as far as the guys that they’ve signed I mean you look at it strowman gone uh the Black Friday spree Cana gone Escobar gone Verlander gone Sher are gone so right now the only guy really left is

Starling Marte you know Lindor was via trade so I don’t really count him I guess we could do best offseason like best addition yeah P yeah best pure move would be Lindor because with nmo and Diaz that was resigning so I don’t really look at that like free agency

Like signing like bringing in a new piece if it was strictly free agency the only guy who’s still around really is Marte to my knowledge right am I missing anyone maybe who Miss oh s yeah no s Sanga definitely was a good one yeah I really think him because he was uh you

Know an overseas player but yes what are you laughing wow it took him that long to say sing I mean it yeah I’ll say Justin Verlander because it got us Drew Gilbert so I’ll say the Justin arlanders sign he got me a prospect got me two prospects

Got two of them don’t forget Cliff dog Deon morero was 15 so 15 divided by eight free agent pitcher would you much rather pursue shaman or Michael Lorenzen well both guys have thrown no hitters so that hits that quota that’s why I did it both guys have made Allstar te I’m

Pretty sure man I made an All-Star team so both guys have made all-star teams so that hits that quota it’s all go Michael Lorenzo fine with either guy I’m not like losing sleep I like both think if you say hey both of them are in this rotation sure but I think just Lorenzen

Might be a little bit younger don’t quote me on that is ler younger than manah I think he’s like you know again I mean yes some people prefer the Lefty but you know we got David Peterson coming back midseason so and we got King we got plenty of lefties so just to go

With Lorenzen just to get a little more better Innings either of the two I’m gonna go with manah I like that in 2021 and 22 he he had the 30 starts uh you know even this past year he appeared in plenty of games so I I do value that uh

He almost got two innings in 20121 so I I feel like you know this team does need any just a guy to take the the ball every five days so I feel like he has like maybe a little more upside I feel like with Lorenzen he’s also had his

Inconsistencies too like shmanai is alone in that between these two uh so for me I feel like he’s the guy I’d rather take a chance on let’s do two this is a perfect one for you we have the Hall of Fame ballot going out here right now we have seen some ballots come

In from the 2006 Mets the bigger Hall of Fame snub that’s on the ballot if they were to get snub would it be beltron or would it be Wagner this is a great question I do like it um for me I’m actually going to say Billy Wagner I I I think that you

Know when you talk about relief pitching this is a guy especially from the left side one of the best of all time I mean he is like one of the very best and Carl beltron he was an awesome player in do Rome but I wouldn’t say like one of the

Greatest center fielders of all time but I think based off the position in the granty of having great Center no come on there’s a lot better than him my man there’s only maybe four better than Malon four he’s four fifth and War four we so much you’re disgusting you’re a

Disgusting human being no for me Wagner he’s been on the B plenty of times and and I feel that the percentage he’s got has been really low I mean way too low so I I I feel like he hopefully he actually gets in this time around uh

Because I do think he deserves it to me I just feel he’s been very underrated and I think he definitely is worthy of Willie Maye Tai Cobb Mickey Manel Mike Trout Ken griffy Joe demaggio yeah I’m taking all of those guys see all those guys play against plumber besides trout

All those guys played against plumbers so do are they really that good bunch of plumbers and bookkeepers no get those griffy besid griffy and trout no throw those old dudes you’re you’re a disgusting human being anyways Wagner or beltron would be the bigger snow it’s Wagner because we all know what’s going

On with belron so Wagner only has what one year left after X after this year so it’s Wagner again we know why belron is not gonna get in this year he’s getting his those stupid those slap in the wrist punishment so for me it’s Wagner he has

To get in this this year if not he keeps slowly trending towards getting in every year so if it’s not this year you’re GNA really risk it for 10th year on the ballot and I don’t know who’s coming on the ballot next year I mean obviously

This year you’ve had like Bel Tre and Mau and guys like that I don’t don’t know who’s coming on the ballot next year who would be like first ballot guaranteed to steal some votes so if it’s not this year I think Wagner has to

Kind of get in so I think that’s kind of the bigger snub if he doesn’t get in thiss year there’s a reason why I say’ 06 because this is a trick question because the right answer is Carlos Delgado who’s the biggest snub yeah I mean come on like how the

Hell is this dude not in the Hall of Fame but you know what that’s a different topic all right you got three left Andrew take six your number one trade Target for the Mets this off seon it’s gonna it’s tough to it’s really tough to specify because they’ve seemed

Very stingy to get rid of prospects this is realistic a guy who has term a guy who’s on a team that will trade a starting pitcher a guy the need of a starting pitcher and a team that needs a second baseman Luis Castillo how many years are

We going to do this like if you want to go lesser the Mariners log Gilbert I mean I’m of the Mariners guys he’s the guy I like the least obviously Kirby Castillo woo and Miller I like more than him Gilbert could be a fine three but again if they are moving the

Contract because of what’s going on with their TV deal and losing money with that going to premium service take that five-year Team friendly rotation top eight I mean not ace but he’s a sure as hell really good number two call Jerry depoto right the now that’d be

Great but honestly I think really any of the Seattle starting pitchers they really should be a definitely high priority for their age you know the guys outside of Castillo they definitely have a lot to give so I definitely would be on board with any of them you know I I

I’ve been talking about Corbin Burns a little bit so I I definitely look at him just because here’s a guy who you know has a St connection what have you but the fact that you know year in year out you know you’re getting a pretty solid

Pitcher at the top I feel that’s exctly what this team needs you know just to have at least one other guy who could be very good for you outside of kodai at the top I feel that should be that kind of solves a lot of things that rotation

It just makes everybody it kind of takes the pressure off them a little bit a six-man rotation becomes a lot easier when you have the top two figured out you know and then you can work on it’s much easier to find a three or four than

Is to find a one or two I mean that’s obvious so I feel like if you can at least get that established and hope that saino could be your three or four and then you know Kitana like again everyone just like fits a lot better when you

Have someone establish at the top so for me you know if and the Seattle guys are available sure but if not I definitely think cor BS if cor B’s not available D so I definitely someone starting pitching related to be at the top of the rotation should be top priority because

Like we’ve talked about before in the beginning the free agents just don’t love them you know I really you know I felt that the Mets did this when they got Basset with the trade I felt like at that time the start pitching options were too great so they got someone who

Fit much better in Basset I want to see them take that same approach with this let’s take nine nine all right we did the best free agency signing what about the worst free agency signing in Steve con Trevor May that guy was a huge disappointment they gave a

Multi-year contract to who ended up retiring way younger than he should have been because he was just just cooked and didn’t have anymore he always found the most he was guy just found the most inopportune times to give up the big home run and just would not come through

In the big game and there were even some outings that he got out of but he had to throw 30 pitches and load the bases to do it just always just sweating too much made me sweat like it was just it was brutal you know I just feel like he was

Just not a great signing in the long run Frank I’ve come to learn that Trevor May has like a huge fan base so they’re GNA come for you I’m telling fine they’ve they’ve been coming at me since day one so whatever I’ll let you have the easiest grapefruit you

Can grab so I guess I did it with the other one I’ll do this one with sherzer because of the trade package back was not as good as the the Verlander one but oh we had a good R what happened three starts we needed him

To like that’s I don’t care it’s like we say it all the time oh they’re a regular season team like oh Tampa Bay is great in the regular season but then you put them in the postseason they’re not the same team it’s like the same thing players some guys have big nut sacks

Some guys have tiny dicks Max sh with the Mets had a small C like let’s be honest like could not he did not show up in them big nut Zack moments like let’s be honest like Jake was the only one in Jake was like mediocre like that was it

So in the return of lisan hunia when you could have got Jack you could have got Slade coock whatever the hell his name is uh wal were they were some nice t Harris like there was plenty of other guys you could have got out of Texas who

Like more and you know aun we’ll see what he is so yeah I’ll go with Sher and and I think too um you know you get AA back whatever but the fact that you’re also still paying sherzer and you know same could be said for but the fact that

You are still are paying those guys too I I think also just makes the deal sting a little more and the fact that they weren’t supposed to be traded you know like it was supposed to be like okay you know we’re in all all all in mode we’re

Trying to have these guys in the post SE and then the fact of him just being such a annoying entitled player you know all the field in yeah yeah exactly in the press conferences and really the whole like they need to talk to me about what

They’re doing no they don’t I mean that that drove me nuts when he said that it still does so for me I mean just goodbye James mccan number three which we have left most valuable trade piece on the Mets roster once July comes going to be pet Alonzo that’s the most valuable trade

Piece because this team ain’t buying so let’s get negative on the last year last day of 2023 your most valuable trade piece is pet Alonzo it’s so cute how you really think that this is kind of a tough one I mean because we’ve been talking about like you know we’ve been

Talking about these trades all let’s get cor Birds let’s get this guy but in order to do that you have to give up something pretty substantial in return so you got to have some good trade pie and when you’re looking at it it’s like okay you probably would have to give up

These prospects a guy who’s actually on the 40 man roster that we just talked about we’re very UNC you is he going to fully develop are we’re gonna see Power how about Luis Anil aunia how about him I feel like he if listen they did the

Max Sher trade for him because he’s all we’ll pay off some of the money so we could get him I feel like he’s a guy that again you hope he could be anywhere close to his brother you hope he could develop power it’s enough that you could

Hope for for any Prospect you know that’s just how it goes with all them but for also and I hope he could develop power whereas other guys like you know they have it that’s risky you know I feel like if he has the value now and he

Could get you a younger start pitcher like the way I I look at is that if you turn Max Scherzer into a young starting pitcher like like from Seattle or something that ends up being a very nice trade for you long term so for me it’s

Like you know one move turns into one move turns into the other move all of a sudden things kind of align much better so for me I feel like of the guys on the 40 man he has the most value so now that brings us to the questions that you guys

Sent to us as per usual if you want to send us a question make sure to click the link in the description fill out our form with your name your Mets related question and it could be featured on the next episode of the Mets weekly podcast this question comes from Charlie the

Mets fan do you trust Vientos to be the DH on opening day this kind of branches off of the JD Martinez subject let’s say they don’t get him and they don’t get that the trust level into Mark fantos I I’ll start with no I mean that’s why we

We talked about really trying to get a JD Martinez or you know horse the fact that you’re even in the market frame these guys I feel like kind of tells you what you need to know that yes you know they do need to get somebody uh because

With Vientos it’s like he’ll hit you his homers but I think as far as just overall offensive production and value every single day we just don’t know yet I I feel like he just hasn’t done enough in his short amount of time to make me feel a lot of confidence I mean the

Strikeouts are concerning to say the least so so that’s why I would say no I I I wouldn’t be like okay Le I wouldn’t count on it that’s just not the approach I take I don’t think he’s highly regarded like that uh the fact that this

Guy slipped out of being a top 100 Prospect so also you know not just from the Met standpoint but just all around you know that’s the way EV valuers have felt about him that they have they felt like the Valu has been declining overall so that’s why I’d say if he’s the last

Resort and let’s say we’ve killed the other options no but yet if this is a rebuilding team when if again let’s say they don’t get JT let’s say they don’t get JD you’re not gonna get play them I guess but again if this team’s trying to be competitive no but again if

Moves Contin let’s say JD goes to the angels JT goes to the Diamondbacks and you’re looking at like jock goes to let’s say if I saw Seattle was in on jock today so I saw Toronto Toronto too so you know let’s say those guys are off the bored and you’re telling me and

Again they don’t make a move for the ALF like it’s Michael a Taylor and this again shows that they’re not giving a about this season sure just run them out kind of like with Brett just see what the hell you get it seem not gonna matter anyway but if you’re trying

To be a competitive team no I don’t trust him but if let’s say options go other way go elsewhere and you’re just sitting here in mid-February and all the big F Solair goes somewhere else too and you’re at the point where like all right there’s really no upgrades and this the

Bats haven’t come and the Mets are looking at the same roster fine run them out like you’re doing with their base just see what the hell you got and if you see he’s a bad year you know he’s not it you move on for a competitive

Year next year I’m not like opposed to giving him playing time like I really am not but but the thing is is that it just comes to a point where you know five years into the making you just got to get the extra power bat at the DH

Position if you just give DH reps to Mark Vientos which I just don’t think that they’re going to do cuz he’s younger they’re going to see what other tools he’s got the best that you can do is first base this is the type of question ask me again in three months

Like I think that that’s that’s kind of how I look at it it’s like you know whatever position this roster is in am I putting in a prospect as like one of the main guys to compete for this job I think the Vientos has like DH type of

Tools like someone who’s going to give you some extra power at his best but we just have yet to see that if he has if he does get the amount of reps at the major league level I think that he would become a really good high leverage

Hitter but like he needs to get the Reps and I don’t know if the Mets are willing to give that to him because if they are looking at guys like JD Martinez they are looking at guys like Justin Turner I mean we’ll see what that leaves for

Vientos to be honest at the at the top of I mean at top of my head I mean if if there they’re just going to start him in triaa you might as well just trade him like yeah that that’s the one thing I don’t want to see I mean there’s been

Too much of the back and forth I don’t I don’t need to see a prospect who’s almost 25 years old rotting away in Triple A like I don’t need to see exactly yeah that that that’s the one thing like you said if they do that then just trade him because that that’s just

Pointless your rapid fire stories for this week the Dodgers have signed former Mets infielder Jonathan aruz to a minor league contract ER spent 2023 in the Mets organization as the 26-year-old in 27 games for the Mets after the trade deadline the Orioles have signed former Mets catcher Michael Perez to a minor

Spring training so or pitchers and catchers reporting sorry so there’s guys out there I’m tired of dumpster Dave diving in that dumpster bin I need you to go I’m not saying you gotta go to Nordstrom like can we go to like Ross you know Marshalls like some name brands

Please like I’m tired of this you know we’re going in the back of the Peto dumpster oh we found an Austin Adams and you know Lopez I’ll call it like a Dollar Tree signing but like can we get into some name brands please there’s guys out there and God forbid can we

Make a trade but I like the little you know house or whatever but like let’s make something that you know we could put on a billboard we got no Billboards we got like a little pamphlet sign simpler terms just get some players that we can be excited about because it’s

Just like it’s just been off season where it’s like give me something I can look forward to next year because right now it’s like you see a lot of the same guys and just nothing great so we want you know like I said name BR but just

Someone to be excited about that’d be nice um happy New Year I guess that’s all I mean happy Holidays happy New Year uh to those of you who are watching listen I just want to see them address the holes on the roster to make it better I want to see a addition that

Makes the Mets better I don’t have my expectations up too much I think that this is right for them to step back listen that’s just me but other than that we’ll see you guys next week for episode number 36 let’s go Mets peace Out

  1. Face it guys we are punting on this year , you can't keep waiting around while free agents keep failing of the board until there's nothing left.

  2. Generation k publisher, izziunghausen and Paul Wilson, years later it went to the dark knight and Thor, what a waste of talent that never worked out.

  3. The Mets are interested in Yamamoto, 😂😂😂ONLY! The 5 year plan has been changed to the 25 year plan. Mets having temper tantrum since losing someone who NEVER wanted to be here. Way to have a finger on the pulse of the business 😉

  4. I Agree with Andrew . Mets should be Preparing this Year for Next Year . I know it's NY and NY Fans have absolutely No Patience at All , but I Say Eff the Fans in 24 and Build for the Future NOW !
