Backing this week at the sentury over in Hawaii the first event of 2024 right without so much of a do let’s let’s crack on the plantation course at caloa l in Hawaii we got two events in Hawaii this week and then the Sony Open next week the course itself it’s very very

Quirky it’s a carton crore design had a 2019 renovation it’s an 1991 original how do I categorize it’s Coastal you will see beautiful shots of the Pacific Ocean although it’s up on a hill so you don’t tend to get close to the sea but the sea is all around the golf course um

7,596 yards it is a par 73 though it’s a quirky unique setup uh Circa 7,600 yards uh it’s a par 73 a 36 37 par split and it’s famous for having 11 par fors only three par 3s and the standard four par fivs interestingly enough though this course

You have to categorize it as long it’s 7,600 yards but there are eight sub 425 yard PA fours and when you read interviews here and it isn’t always the long Gunners that are saying this if you can unleash with the driver which you can on most of these holes it’s so D

Wide the fairways this week are up to 65 yards wide so think El Cardinal where they played the wwt championship at the end of last year think here big wide Fairways also very undulating very hilly very contoured it’s a hard walk for the Cades but it’s very very getable but what I

Was going to say is that with a lot of these holes even for short hitters um or you know mid-range hitters it’s literally a drive and a flick with a wedge so it tends to become a bit of a wedge Fest I will go into The Strokes

Game numbers a little bit further down the line though Agronomy wise oh isn’t it great to be back when you can talk about Agronomy and golf courses um we are dealing with Fairways which is celebration Bermuda grass rough which is celebration Bermuda grass if you can

Call it rough it’s 2 and A2 Ines wide um greens they are mive 8,7 22 Square ft on average they feature Tiff Eagle Bermuda grass in terms of this golf course’s difficulty last year and the year before and the year before that it’s the easiest golf course on the

Whole of the PGA Tour don’t forget it’s a core and cren or design pineur number two also Trinity Forest golf club where they played the 2018 2019 AT&T Byron Nelson on the PJ tour that was the golf course that was sort of a faux linkx built on a dump outside of

Dallas so yes what let’s let’s go into those um Strokes game metrics shall we Strokes game what the Le winners here have done over the course since 2016 actually so where in the field did the Champions Rank and then you just you run it through from 2016 through to the 2023

Which which of course last year was John Ram so what do you need to do well here well this is the infield ranking of the winners off the T fourth on approach 10th in the field around the green and I tell you what there aren’t many golf courses where you see this

Statistically uh in the field rank of the Champions that won it since 2016 average it through eighth so around the green more important than approach T to Green Third and this here is absolutely critical Strokes game putting the Champions here going all the way back to 2016 on average or finished

Fourth in the field for strokes game putty so when you’re seeing Scotty Sheffer at 6 to1 and I know that Scotty Sheffer last season was the best Strokes gain te green player of all time apart from Tiger Woods you cannot put negatively or even close to neutral here and hope to win

The event yeah top three top five yes but to win you have to be gaining well over a stroke per round with the flat stick so that’s an interesting angle so around the green cuteness and putting very very important here right weather looks pretty similar to last year there

Hasn’t been a lot of brain in the buildup I just think that this golf is going to have I mean it’s always prodigious in terms of some of the run that you get on the fairways here I think this year it’s going to be even further roll just going to shorten the

Golf course on and to just to make that even more pronounced the winds that are here which look like they’re going to be up to 20 M an hour across Thursday Friday and Saturday are from the Northeast they are the trade wins and the trade wins on

This gold go course make the golf course shorter anyway so again it’s going to be low scoring 24 to 25° C 75 to 77 fahrenheit low scoring I would assume that they’ll just make sure that those greens are are pretty soft for the opening days and

Just just ease them off from there but I cannot see a I cannot see this being anything sub 25 under when I say sub I mean bigger than that so like I can’t see 14 under winning this week it’s got to be 25 27 28 under that actually gets

The job done those um Strokes gain numbers are very very very interesting I mean Strokes gained approach less important around here than Strokes round gained around the green that kind of also comes through in the traditional skill set numbers driving distance 12th this goes all the way back to Jeff ogy

In 2010 so the average infield of where the Champions ranked so driving distance 12th driving accuracy 18th Greens in regulation eth proximity to hold 12th scrambling ninth putting average third right there we go key player skills are required done and dusted for this week’s uh the century at the

South Africa on the DP World Tour after the Ridder cup so he’s in good Nick next up two and a half points each way again 14 to1 this time I managed to get it with the full eight places with our friends at bet 365 via their eway extra
