Sends a message that Georgia belonged in the college football playoff in Florida State for all the whining and complaining that’s participated in over the course of the last few weeks obviously a shell of itself here today but perhaps the seminal have themselves to blame for that for the lack of focus

And the the lack of connection maybe that team shared as it really just completely quit on the season and uh was absolutely fed to the Lions today in the form of these Georgia Bulldogs we’re going to talk about all of that here on our final edition of the dog Nation

Postgame show here for the 2023 season a lot to unpack Jeff SEL going to join us here in a few minutes there as well Jeff will’ll tell you some of the stuff that we hear from the Georgia locker room over the course of the uh next few

Minutes here tonight too so there is a lot we expect to take place here obviously reflecting on the game and then of course in the uh event that there’s some announcements that are made remember it was last year in the immediate aftermath of the national championship game that Jaylen Carter

Announced he was going to the NFL draft and so tonight we could be on guard for other Georgia announcements to be made as this show is ongoing tonight so we will watch for all of that we’ll get a chance to hear from Jeff coming up about what he heard from the Georgia locker

Though let’s reflect on what was and I will tell you here a little bit of housekeeping quickly to begin things unfortunately we’re not going to be able to take your calls here tonight and I really hate that on our final broadcast of the year not to be able to do that

The way that we’ve obviously grown accustomed to we tried in every angle we could make it happen ultim we just decided it was best um you know just not we just didn’t think we’re going to be able to do that so we’ll hopefully be a

Have a chance to do that again very soon here but as far as like I think my initial takeaway from this game and there will be a lot to say about it but as far as my initial takeaway from this game goes I think one of the things that

Kind of comes to mind for me is is that there was clearly a sharp contrast for really the entire month of December in terms of how Florida state was viewing its preparations for this game and its disappointment about not making the college football playoff and how Georgia was viewing its disappointment about not

Making the playoff and its preparation for the Orange Bowl and it certainly seemed like and we said this a lot on dog Nation daily this past week it certainly seemed like Georgia was saying all the right things about the level of focus and the level of intensity it

Wanted to have and by comparison it seemed like Florida State just could not quite shake the dis appointment of not being included in the college football playoff for the very first time ever that a power five undefeated conference Champion had been left out now if you’re a simol fan you’re watching you would

Say the reason why Florida state had such a hard time shaking that off was because of the travesty of the miscarriage of Justice well be that as it may that’s nonetheless what it was I I got to confess one thing though that while we obviously were watching and we

Were seeing this incredibly sharp contrast Georgia saying the right things Georgia not having the opt outs Georgia star players seemingly trying everything they could do to be ready to play this game while that by appearances is certainly what looked to be true I I kind of wondered if reality actually

Really matched that that if this wasn’t more along the lines of Kirby Smart kind of knowing how to manipulate new Cycles knowing how to master messages and then ultimately the actual level of focus that the George was going to show the actual level of you know I guess the

Full nature of the roster the actual you know level of all that perhaps might not quite be as um I guess as full as it as it perhaps seemed and there was a part of me that kind of downed that a little bit that well Georgia says so and so is

Going to play but is he really going to play and Georgia says they’re obviously eager to finish this game in this season strong but do they really feel that way is that really what in my mind I was thinking that is that really what what

What George is going to be all about and I got to tell you if there was ever a doubt in my mind about what level of focus Georgia would show and what is kind of being described as otherwise meaningless game man how emphatically did Georgia answer that tonight clearly

Sending a message about a a few things here sending a message about the way this program goes about its business on a daily basis it it doesn’t have to have you know some exterior external reason to want to come out and do what needs to be done that Kirby Smart said this week

If you love football you want to play football well I think the Georgia Deni demonstrates how much they love football and I do think it’s absolutely fair to say and I know Jordan Travis is hurt and blah blah blah blah uh I do think it’s absolutely fair to say tonight that

Georgia demonstrated kind of a an overall cultural strength an overall program Vibe the Forida State’s not capable of matching and I don’t just mean at the end of this season when they’re all banged up and Jordan Travis is hurt and people are sad I mean just

In programs that is trying to get where Georgia has been the very top of the college football landscape if there was a 12 team playoff even with the Jordan Travis injury there’s a really good chance that Georgia and Florida State could have been been a college football playoff expanded you know kind of

Quarterfinal type matchup and the game would have obviously been just as lopsided if it was played under their under those circumstances as it was here tonight because it is very obvious that Georgia just goes about its business in a way that is so different from what

Florida state does you know I kind of wondered privately would that really prove to be this true would Georgia you know ultimately be tripped uh tripped up by the same you know kind of motivational issues that seem to play a lot of teams in games like this and

Georgia showed you tonight no they’re not that kind of team that Georgia really does have an incredible level of focus and kind of a default setting of intensity that obviously is going to serve this team very well as you move into the 2024 season which if you’re a

Georgia fan that’s really a lot of what you want this to be about you want it to be about the you know the chance for some momentum the spring board into a new year well you couldn’t have asked for anything better than that tonight than 63-3 what you got here just a

Moment ago now I’m going to read some of your comments here in a minute give you a chance to react to all of this but there’s kind of one more point I want to say before we get into any of that I want to go back to the last time we did

A dog Nation postgame show a very different vibe for us when we were in Atlanta after the SEC Championship we were obviously incredibly disappointed after that game and some of you were a little bit frustrated with me because I took some of my time on the show that

Night to make the argument make the case for Georgia being in the college football playoff even though they just lost Alabama and Georgia fans were kind of smarting from that having lost the Crimson Tide even though all that was true at that time I really tried to make

My case that I don’t care you know what you just saw I don’t care how disappointed you were with the result that just took place that Georgia I believe was still one of the four best teams in college football and had a very strong argument to be included well

Ultimately George’s argument in that case did not get much of a fair hearing but can we all agree now based on what we’ve seen tonight that it should have gotten more consideration than it did that George is obviously one of the four best teams are they better than Alabama

Could they’ve won a rematch I I I don’t know but are they one of the four best and should they have been in the college football playoff in place of a program like Washington who plays in a league that no longer exists a program like Michigan whose head coach was suspended

Twice for two different things uh thus far this season uh did Georgia belong in the playoff over perhaps any of those teams even Texas Texas I know beat Alabama as we said before that would have been an argument in favor of putting Texas in over Alabama but Texas

Is head-to-head win against Alabama I don’t think helped In the comparison with Georgia at all so the point was back then we tried to argue emphatically that Georgia ought to be in the college football playoff and what we said is that Georgia fans ought to be more comfortable making that argument and I

Would say that tonight’s like tonight are one of the reasons why that argument deserved to be made then and why in the future I think you got to be ready to argue your case AR argue your side no matter what because people are more than happy to take that opportunity from you

If they can they don’t want to see 65 to7 like we had last year the national championship game they don’t want to see that in the playoff if they can help it they certainly don’t want to see 63 to three like the the likes of which we had

Deny so if there’s any excuse for keeping Georgia out of course that’s what the college football playoffs s committee is going to do because they don’t want a team that runs rough shot through its National semi-final games or perhaps even its national championship game I’m not saying it’s some sort of

Grand conspiracy against Georgia I’m simply saying that if there is a window to exclude Georgia and make the sport seem more balanced make the sport seem uh you a little bit more even good to see some of the red coat folks walking by here always entertaining us the way

They did tonight um if they had a chance to do that that is exactly what they were going to do and uh the Lost Alabama gave him the chance to do that and so Georgia was left out but the message was sent tonight that Georgia should have

Been one of the four best teams it is one of the four best teams and should have been acknowledged that way by the college football playoff selection committee so to be honest with you even though Georgia won 63 to3 I’m a little salty tonight because when you watch the

Thorough dismantling I don’t care who was playing for Florida St uh by the second half George is playing with it third string quarterback too let’s not forget but you a little salty in watching all this play out because as you see Georgia just running rough shot through the simal you’re just still have

To conclude that you know my gosh yeah they lost to Alabama but line them up and play a Michigan tomorrow line them up and play a Texas tomorrow line them up and play a washingon tomorrow these other teams that made the college football playoff not only do I like

Georgia’s chances in any of those games I like Georgia by a pretty wide margin uh in most of those games there as well and a rematch situation you obviously sort of see where the cards uh kind of you know fell on something like that but

Um but I think tonight kind of serves is that uh Is that real strong message here that Florida state had to be on the receiving end of a beat down because Georgia had a point to prove that in this and perhaps every year going forward the road to a national

Championship is going to run through ug no matter what the playoffs selection committee set here tonight so that’s kind of some of the stuff that’s on the table there right there the incredible level of focus the incredible level of determination that Georgia showed to want to finish this off on a on the

Right note on a strong note uh here this season they clearly accomplished that goal and also just some of that leftover negative negative energy about the fact that Georgia was excluded from the college football playoff and I would say unfairly so we’ll talk about all of that we can get into the individual

Performers from tonight’s game there as well if you were watching on TV a moment ago just to my left you saw the uh Podium there Kendall Milton getting honored as the game’s MVP obviously two early rushing touchdowns for him we believe this is likely to be Milton’s last game he hasn’t announced that

Officially at least yet as I told you before you know we could be seeing a lot of those announcements made throughout the night here we’ll be paying attention to them when they do take place but uh but Milton what very likely is going to end up being his last game

In the Georgia uniform certainly went out in emphatic fashion couple of touchdowns on the ground really kind of demonstrating you know what has always made him such a fan favor because there’s a highlight nature to Milton’s runs that are that are great to be able

To see and uh tonight he put that on full display so this is the last time we see Kendall Georgia uniform I think he will leave as a pretty beloved figure in this program and a guy was obviously a contributor to some national championship teams and a guy that just

Went healthy was a lot of fun to watch so congratulations to Kendall Milton there on all of that it’s fun to see Dylan Bale getting involved tonight in the in the offense giving you a little bit of an idea of what his future in a Georgia uniform can be if it’s the swan

Song for lad makoni he also goes out on a really high note a fun receiving touchdown that almost looked like it started off going to be a lad makoni throw makoni didn’t see anything there tucked the ball ran with it and then got into the end zone uh an amazing

Highlight for him capping off what’s really been a highlight career for Maki so that is out there to discuss the individual performance from tonight’s games young guy young guys that you saw that you’d like to see more of going into next year uh perhaps previews in

Three points obviously it’s going to be a great night for your offensive coordinator and we also know that after the SEC Championship uh that when Georgia did not have the offensive performance that it wanted to have Bobo was going to be put back in the spotlight the end the season that’s just

Natural that’s not fan hysteria or anything like that bobo obviously had big shoes to fill replacing a guy like Todd monin who had been so successful to the tune of two Nationals championships and the offense playing such a big role and how it was that Georgia was able to

Get that done so of course Bobo who fans obviously already knew very well from his previous tent as offensive coordinator and had some I think fully formed opinions about him already you know prior to that of of course that Boba was going to have a big Spotlight on him and obviously the SEC

Championship didn’t go the way that uh he or any other Georgia fan wanted it to coach Bubba was pretty candidate in talking about that here this week uh you know saying that they just to get the job done did perform as well as they could have on third down and that obviously cost

Your for Georgia based on what the offense had really been for Georgia based on what the offense had really been all season long and if you want to you know spend the offseason believing that with the return of Carson back with the continued sort of comfort and familiarity that exists around coach

Bobo this offense can keep up going in 2024 achieving a lot of the same Heights and perhaps even higher Heights next season uh you know even in comparison to the very prodigious offensive numbers they put up you know here this year uh let’s see what else 225 girl says three

60 points in consecutive years Georgia has set the record for the largest uh margin of victory in a bowl game so if you want to have some idea of just how dominant this Georgia era has been uh the idea that in back toback years Georgia is laying waste to an opponent

As a lot of the players start to kind of run onto the field from actually this uh Tunnel right here as they start to run on the uh run on the field you saw lad makoni kind of hang back and I’m not saying he was like looking around the

Stadium but it was very easy to look at this and just sort of felt like it sort of felt like he is taking a moment it sort of felt like he was taking a beat and when you read into that it becomes a little easy to

Wonder okay ises that mean that lad Maki was soaking all this up one more time perhaps his final time in a Georgia uniform well as of right now as I’m speaking I don’t exactly know the answer to that I would say the the likelihood more likely than not that Maki is going

To move on to the NFL uh that’s not a given makoni obviously as he’s acknowledged does have eligibility left to use he could choose to come back and perhaps he will uh I’m led to believe that he’s contemplated doing that but I’m also kind of led to believe that it

May be more likely than not that Maki does move on and go to the NFL I know there was some folks who made a little bit of the thing out of this week when um when Mike Bobo was talking to reporters one of the things that Bobo said was you know he referenced

Something about l makoni in his last year was that just a slip up a misspeak from Bobo certainly could have been but you kind of add that to the context clues much like there were kind of a series of context clues around Carson Beck that made it seem like he might be

Coming back I think around makoni there appears to be right now a little bit of a series of context clues that maybe makes you think that uh that he’s considering moving on to the NFL we’ll obviously watching to see how many of those announcements may come out here

Doubt that Kendall Milton you know I I think you know in some respects we can maybe say for the entirety of a career maybe we didn’t see the best of Milton because he obviously dealt with a series of injuries but the one thing that Kirby Smart was always emphatic about when it

Comes to Kendall is that Kendall was eager to want to be out there for Georgia he was doing everything he could to be as healthy as he possibly could be you know on weekly basis on a yearly basis because a lot of this kind of stuff you know spanned over a series of

Years and the one thing that no one’s going to doubt is is that when he was completely healthy a phrase I used a little early he was like a highlight style running back he was the kind of guy that that was just really fun to watch and tonight

Was another example of that so I’m personally happy for him that his final moments in the Georgia uniform if that’s what this turns out to believe to be we believe it probably will be I’m so happy for him that he got a chance to go out on a very high note individually because

I know while maybe at times in the past he wasn’t playing as much as he would have liked to have dealing with injury or things like that he was certainly very happy for his team success on the two national championships and then this season especially late here as he got

Fully healthy also able to show what he’s able to do individually and I don’t think it’s going to surprise any of us if Kendall Milton goes on to have a wonderful career in the NFL and kind of furthering the legacy of what we call rbu running back University for Georgia

I don’t think any of us will be surprised if that’s what Kendall Milton’s Legacy goes on to be there in the NFL and if he’s doing that after night we wish him well I will tell you that his father Chris Milton you guys know him on social media he calls

Himself father of Ballers he had a very uh heartfelt message today about all the emotion that’s kind of going through his mind not obviously revealing this is Kendall’s last game but clearly with the idea that it could be and perhaps already knowing that it would be uh he

Was very emotional on social media about that today it’s probably worth checking out if you have not gotten a chance to uh see that Greg Rosenberg on the subject of Gunner Stockton yeah so I I saw there were some Georgia fans who are you know getting a little bit impatient with a

Couple of things around around Gunner and I’m G to tell you right now y’all you’ve got to be really really careful about stuff like that the experience that Gunner Stockton Got Tonight invaluable this wasn’t the same thing as playing Charleston Southern on ESPN Plus on the third Saturday in September

Something like that you know this was all be the depleted Florida State team but it’s still the orange B it’s still national television and it’s still the precursor to what we believe is going to take place uh starting in the the beginning of 2024 in these early days of

This new year calendar about to turn here that Gunner Stockon gets a chance to step up and emerge into that number two quarterback for Georgia and obviously in the past when Carson Beck did that when when when uh when he had a chance to become the backup quarterback

Think about the great effect to which he used that opportunity the experience he got little bits and pieces little Snippets here and there growing and getting better improving I know he was in kind of the Cross here a lot of Georgia fans after what the UAB game in

2021 and he’s clearly a more mature young man now than he would have been then and Gunner Stockton tonight showed you some good things he’s clearly a very good runner for Georgia fans who like the idea of having a quarterback that’s capable with his legs Gunner Stockton

One day could be that for ug obviously an extra Dimension if you ever needed to use him in a traditional backup situation or if Carson back would to get banged up or something like that and tonight the experience that he got I think is going to propel him mightily

Into what can be a very very valuable next 12 months as George’s backup quarterback perhaps as a bit of an understudy to uh Carson backck and maybe one day even the replacement for Carson back there as well and the one thing we were pretty clear about was even in a

Quarterback room that could have perhaps included Dylan riola we’ve always been of the belief that gunar Stockton would be very difficult to beat out uh in in in in a competition that for for Georgia’s next starting quarterback the Gunner Stockton we have always believed was going to be

Greatly heard from at some point in time and a quarterback battle for UG and stepping into action here to begin the third quarter tonight leading Georgia on a couple of scoring drives I think you get the idea and the indication of just how true that possibly could be uh

Christy says the Gunner can run and yeah I mean we know what a valuable asset that is in college football here right now I don’t think there’s any doubt that George is going to want to use that here in the future um let’s see if we can get

Going out there and celebrating a little bit y’all y’all know this but I’m going to say it again anyway this team works hard it is a grind day day after day week after week month after month and for a lot of these guys it’s also year

After year so you know what if you get a 15 yard excessive celebration penalty tonight I can sleep fine knowing that Georgia gave up a couple you know 15 yards 30 yards with the penalties on some of those celebrations because if there was a team that had ever earned

The right to celebrate uh it was a Georgia you know team for what it’s been doing over the course of the last three years and for guys who’ll say goodbye or maybe for guys who are you know saying hello playing for some of the first time in extended situations no problem at all

Future there’s obviously been a lot of chatter this week about Mel Williams you know Williams you know didn’t exactly end speculation that you know maybe he would uh perhaps into the transfer portal that just could be a reflection of the Modern Age where no one’s going

To say in no uncertain terms no I’m never leaving I’m here at Georgia forever maybe that’s just kind of reflection of that but you know people kind of Wonder oh when Williams said what he said this week well what you saw from him tonight and some of that

Playing kind of what looked to me like an outside linebacker position no hand on the ground he’s standing up um you saw tonight him be very effective at the pass rush he is athletic enough to play the outside linebacker position and frankly with his size he may have an

Opportunity for Success there that Nolan Smith because he’s a little bit smaller never really had so um you know I want to lead into a discussion of guys that we do at least hope or expect to be back in Georgia next season Mel Williams perhaps kind of top of the list here and

Really demonstrating what next year could be for him 2023 was probably a little too quiet for Mel he may have been out of position that may have been what led to that but boy he really reminded you tonight of how good he could be next season so you know

Which can be an indication of what they think he could be next year it’s another guy that I mean Harris did take the step of saying that he really might be looking to go to that transfer portal but obviously ultimate gy smart said listen just just because you tweeted

Doesn’t mean it’s actually a real thing in the case of Harris looks like he is going to be staying here at ug getting a chance to play and I thought at times not playing pretty well certainly running step for step very well with the Florida state receivers that were in the

Game Harris tonight showing you that you know he’s going to be a big part of this competition for quarterback playing time next year we think the Kamari lter is probably leaving at least that’s our best guess here right now that means there’s a battle for starting position

Open and I think that Daniel Harris staying at Georgia is a formidable foe to perhaps win that quarterback conf well that’s playing some defense against the portal wasn’t it they Brandon a little bit you see him I think it was the second the second series he’s in

True a little bit um you saw a lot of the guys that were just kind of you know you could just look in the locker room you looked around the locker room and you saw guys like looking at each other like hey we we it’s that run it back

Look or you know we don’t want to be here again and we should be somewhere else the dogs Brandon and me they all feel like this shows that we this team was destined for better things I think you and I have always sometimes talked about maybe one of those two Champions

As one would do if he thought he was doing it for the last time do you think lad makoni played his last game for the Georgia Bulldogs tonight I think he probably did he gave that no I mean I’m kidding I I think he probably did too

Especially after that NFL scout see that play he made early today I mean he was like let me give him a little bit more to elevate my draft stock some 10 points see the thing with lad man is he’s going to test really well he’s done almost

Everything he can do at Georgia um you know I think Georgia fans would be overjoyed and over the moon if lad Maki returned to Georgia I think it is a decision for him I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as I kind of made it sound

Right there but you look at LAD he’s been on campus at Georgia since 20120 he’s a smart young man got a really bright future and you know one of the things he’s just really frustrated with you know this season never been able to go or never been able to get his body

Right where it needed to from back to back to back in the SEC and it’s one of those things where I think lad you know lad has done a lot for the Georgia Bulldogs and I think it’s one of those things where you look at him and you go

Surely it’d be greedy to want him back and maybe he can put together a thousand yards and 12 touchdowns again and make Carson even more of an impressive candidate but it’s one of those things where I said you’ve done enough for Georgia right now it’s time to do

Something for yourself had a chance to talk to Kendall Milton the other day and is I just sort of asked him I said you know does it go by as fast for you as it has for all of us you know 2019 s seems like that was just yesterday and now

We’re talking about a senior year career coming to an end and I I asked him I said does it feel like it’s gone by that fast for you he said absolutely it has and I said I know you’re just kind of getting ready for the next game week

After week but do you allow yourself to stop and reflect on what this career has been for you and he also said that he did and so my point in all of that is is how much of that did you also see tonight maybe the lock room or and and

Uh just hearing from various guys or just the body language of various guys how much Nostalgia and for these very young players who are in a lot of ways just beginning their life but they might be ending their Georgia football life how reflective do they kind of want to

Be on some of the best moments some of the best moments in program history have taken place over the course of the last couple of years and a lot of the guys in that locker room tonight were chiefly responsible for that how much reflection were they willing to do on what this era

The stands great to see folks catch reminiscent of two years ago when the 29 game winning streak started that night against Michigan the same kind of flicking of the oranges in the St I I didn’t get one tonight but um did you get one did you get one last time I did

Get one last time but I didn’t did not get one tonight um you get it bronze what’ you do with it honestly that’s a good question I think eventually it does wilt so I had probably throw it away it it’s it’s not quite as easy to keep the

National champions don’t concede anything be ready to be combative about everything this Sport’s always been about arguing it’s about to be even more about arguing than ever before Georgia fans should have argued more emphatically for this team to be in the playoff because tonight they showed you
