The most important skill that you can introduce into your game is the ability to hit down on the ball and the ability to control basically your low point because if you can do that that means that you’ll stop Mish hitting and that will be really beneficial but also we
Know that all professional golfers are always trying to make sure that they can control their low point so they can ensure they control where that club strikes down on the back of the ball and the main reason for this is because the fear for professional golfers is if they
Hit the golf ball a little bit too clean or they hit up on the ball a bit too much if that golf ball starts straight or it starts slightly left and it curves left that can be a really disastrous shot for a lot of better golfers because that ball is now
Likely very lost and that’s why we tend to see with all the pros they’re always trying to strike down on the ball because striking down on the golf ball means that the more you strike down on the ball the worst case scenario is when you hit the ball the face might be
Slightly open and a shot that leads slightly towards the right hand side is much better and more favorable than one that hooks excessively left now the point is that’s what you should be aiming to do and that’s why on the channel I’ll often talk a lot about trying to strike the ground opposite
Your lead ankle because students that get the chance to work with that if you can change your mentality to do that you will start to introduce at some stag in toward your game however the reason why this will never come to fruition is very much through alignment now let me
Elaborate first of all by focusing on the face on perspective if you are somebody who when you’re setting up with your iron if you’re somebody who positions the ball very centrally and you have a very sort of tilted shoulder action and everything is really parallel you are likely to get
Very stuck okay meaning there is a high chance that you’re going to end up turning away from the golf ball get stuck behind it and hit up on the ball this will mean that you’re susceptible to Mish hitting but it will also very very much mean that you’re never going
To be able to hit very much down on the back of the golfball what we see with professional golfers is very different we tend to see the ball position progressively move slightly further forward but the big thing that we tend to see is they find a way to get the
Stern and more over the ball and the way they do this is by having more weight on the lead side so I would suggest flare your lead foot get more weight on toward towards your lead side get your sternum nicely over the ball and just allow your
Hips to be slightly open okay and if you want to stand slightly open in your setup position and that’s what I wanted to run through with this position uh this exercise so if I place a stick down on the ground there to represent my target line you always want to keep the
Club aiming at the Target line but I would suggest why don’t you try and hit some shots down the driving range where you open up your feet so if I allow my feet to be more open like this that means I can get that weight on that lead
Side I can get my sternum nicely over the ball and then you can practice hitting some shots where you’re try and keep hitting down on the ball so the way I keep this elbow nice and close and keep get that feeling of keeping that club face really open as I’m
Demonstrating there because that is what professional golfers are doing and that’s why we always see professional golfers end up looking very tilted very low to the ground because ultimately what they’re doing is trying to stabilize that club face as much as they can because they know that if they were
To move this way then they’re not going to be able to control that golf ball anywhere near enough wel it have a go opening at The Stance a little bit try and play around with that feeling of trying to hit more down on the ball almost be a little bit braver at leaving
That club face slightly more open when you hit a few shots you might just be surprised I’ll see you soon bye okay

I hit bad shots to the left al give it a go Russell 🏌♂️ cheers have a good new year
One of the best little lessons ever. The description of hitting from the middle and getting the weight back with wrists breaking down early is my exact problem. I fall back into it when I must layoff from golf for a bit. Saving this for my reminder this upcoming Spring golf season.
Thanks for a year of great tips and drills. Happy New Year.
Thanks very much Russel…a great explanation to learn more about striking the Ball….have a great and healthy New Year…Heiner
If I understand this correctly, club face aligns with yellow stick (target line). Toes are aligned with red stick. But where are the shoulders and hips aligned with? Both to yellow? Both to red? One of each?
Maybe this is the trouble I have with my hybrids and lofted woods. I'll try to work on this.
Slightly open stance is something I read in a Peter Alliss book over 40 years ago. It’s always worked for me,
What did Moe Norman do to avoid the pitfall you describe?
