Let’s explore the common misconception many golfers harbor regarding their arm movements in the golf swing. The prevalent belief is centered on broad, free-swinging arm actions directing the clubhead at the ball. However, upon closer examination, the contrasting grandeur of shoulder and body turns presents a strikingly different movement sequence. Admittedly, these actions might feel akin if one relies solely on sensation, but mechanically, they differ vastly.
Now, let’s get practical. When you position both hands on the golf club at the starting point, consider the natural stance everyone assumes at this stage. Try swinging your arms while keeping your shoulders steady; solely focus on the arm swing, leaving the rest aside. Surprisingly, there’s minimal action beyond the shoulders during this arm-centric swing – just a bit of motion.
Delving deeper into the swing mechanics, during the backswing, it’s about transitioning the club over your shoulder. From the triangle position, attempting to swing the arms from there becomes impractical due to the limited movement range. It’s all about the fold, unfold, and refold sequence to nail your top-of-the-backswing and striking positions.
Here’s a test: Take your golf club, pivot your body, and let the arms follow suit without any deliberate arm action. Observe the natural motion your arms adopt. The folding and unfolding action occurs almost automatically when your hands turn over by themselves, eliminating the need for forced manipulation.
The essence here is focusing solely on folding and unfolding – these fundamental movements serve as the crux for everything else to align, from squaring out the club head to achieving the perfect follow-through. Origami Golf emphasizes this hands-on, 100% genuine approach to golf lessons, fostering an automatic swing devoid of unnecessary thoughts or worries. It’s all about building a swing that flows effortlessly when you step up to that ball – just relax and hit it with confidence.
