With your game in 2024 like that right there that might be the best drill on YouTube right there all right guys so in today’s video we’re talking about how to get the trail shoulder working in the down swing to be able to hit the ball more solid you have
To get your shoulder working correctly to be able to get the handle forward to hit the ball consistently solid day in and day out and Trevor’s going to show us two different versions of drills that I’ve seen him do that I love that you’re absolutely love now one caveat we’re
Putting this in right away you’re going to see a stick over the golf ball from the down line angle like Trevor and I talked about as you learn to get the trail shoulder forward it is imperative it’s a non-negotiable non-negotiable that you must get the club head working from
Inside as you do that so as we’re doing these two drills today you can just put an alignment Rod over the golf ball to ensure that you’re doing that because if you’re too steep with this that’s going to make that problem worse not better so it must come from inside absolutely
Trevor if you can hop in and show us the first drill that I saw you do I really liked this when you explained this we’re referencing where the shoulder works and we’ll show you some pros on the screen really relative to where it starts or or
Where it is inside of the trail heel yep right so they’ll see some players with the line up the heel and the shoulder working forward but you sort of explain that concept and how it works relative to the midline yeah absolutely so when I
Come in here and I get set up to the golf ball obviously a lot of people that I coach that Eric coaches we struggle with what you would call low Point control and I think a lot of people try and drive low point just by either
Moving the left shoulder hence do why we have the stick right here they’re either trying to drive the left shoulder and going this way which now changes the head’s access point and gets us moving too far forward that would be getting us to hammer the stick and that would be
Our way of being able to still get our dividend front but now we in return we have a path issue so where we have the stick set up and we’ve got the golf ball one two three Club heads behind this and I think a very good relationship for you
Is just take your normal setup and I would put this just on the inside of your Trail heel and so this would be my relationship right here and so this stick right here as you can see from down the line this stick is in line with
The golf ball so what this will not allow us to do from here is this cannot be our leader coming into impact right here what we have to lead with to get into the golf ball while we’re staying on Center is I’m a big believer that the
Trail shoulder is what is driving low point forward so you can see when I’m doing this right here my head my eyes are staying on Center and I’m driving my trail shoulder forward which would get this golf club to miss the stick now I can compress the golf ball and I can
Still swing this on a neutral neutral swing path this doesn’t mean I’m coming 10 yard 10 miles from inside out I can still be on plane I can still hit shots straight I can draw it from here but this is going to ensure the most important piece of the golf swing is
Contact you have to make good contact to play better golf everything needs to be be designed around contact and that’s what a drill like this does for players so the should you driving the shoulder forward the trail shoulder forward to get the solidness of contact and obviously the stick back here like you
Mentioned we’re going to miss that with the club head hit the ball first ground second y but what you’re saying is and with this stick in if you do the shoulder forward or I need to do that with the head staying on Center to be able to still deliver the club from
Inside absolutely and the first version you showed with the the lead shoulder two forward and the head forward that you said that’ll get a solid contact but they’d be swinging way too over the top they would be swinging typically the average person that does this is if we
Go here and we try and drive the lead shoulder forward and around well if we use this as our Pivot Point going this direction right that club is still going to be going this way I’ll be able to miss this stick but now I’ve changed my swing Direction my attack angle could be
Coming in too steep now to where I’ll hit the ball first but I might get high contact on the face I might catch it thin probably low shots probably pulls and Fades a lot of low shot probably losing distance Los distance and we’re probably not creating the same
Compression as if we had the club coming from here keeping the head as the aess to stay centered and driving the trail side of our body this direction to hit that right there let me let me try that and so you guys will see on the screen some of the
Visuals from face on with the shoulder kind of getting forward to that line early in the downswing versus like if Trevor were to show some of the bad ones if my shoulder doesn’t get full that right if my shoulder went too far back obviously then the head’s too far back
I’m going to have low Point issues back behind the ball y so I do need to get it forward but as I’m getting it forward with my head on Center that’s the piece that gets the the swing that’s that’s that’s like the golden moving ball striking in my opinion so as I’m hitting
With this in you guys can put an alignment Rod right here just inside the the heel line we’ve got the stick over the golf ball and so I’m feeling the club head I’m feeling the shoulder drive forward we said the shoulders got to get forward of the stick on the ground but
I’m still keeping that club head inside my hands underneath that stick that’s the that’s the feel there and then we’re going to show you drill number two to to even drive the shoulder which I think is even better to drive the shoulder forward in just a moment but let’s get
That shoulder forward Club head’s still working from inside here I mean that’s perfect yeah it’s solid this is yeah go ahead this is without a doubt I would say for any player that is watching this this is a drill that works for every type of player this might be the best
Drill on YouTube if I’m being honest with you for ball striking contact low Point control swing direction that is everything all inone and it’s a very simple visual station to set up that this is this is a result oriented drill right here that will give you better
Contact I like that I agree with that too I mean regardless of where someone’s coming from they can hit good from here but if this is the best drill on YouTube wait till you see the next one we’re going to show you in a minute cuz I
Think that one’s even a little bit better okay Trevor can you show us drill number two with the object under the armpit and the toe line this one guys I’ve never showed before I’ve never seen it done like this before so I’m excited for you guys to see this here too if you
Could walk us through this one Dr yeah so this again this is about using the trail shoulder the trail side of our body to drive our low point forward so what you’ll take so I have an antenna here you could use a shorter version of an alignment stick uh anything that’s
About hip width or a little bit wide or somewhere in that neighborhood and what I do is I use this as a visual reference for where I’m trying to get my shoulder to move so this is the reason why I like this drill so much is this is such an
Area that I struggled with immensely for years and years and years to is what I would see if you watch the direction that this moves so when I make a back swing we can see how Target line is right right here so this is past or just about perpendicular to Target line and
So we would get this perpendicular to Target line and what I would do is I would keep this perpendicular to Target line well now my club’s coming 10 15° from the inside I’d stand up and I’d throw it and this is where this stays directed hence to why I would always hit
Blocks Hooks and really high golf shots and typically I would catch it a little bit thin I never knew why so when I put this in here what I would challenge you to do with this from a visual reference remember this we are keeping the head on Center
So as we work this up I’m here now instead of this staying back here perpendicular to Target line we’re going to get this keeping the head on Center my pressure is still forward I’m going to start driving this more the direction of where the target is now so this is is
Moving this would be moving the trail side of my body forward versus the trail side of my upper body staying backwards where I now have low Point control issues and so this is a great visual great feel helps you with arm structure but really what it helps you with is
Being able to drive this side of our body the direction of the target which would be our closing mechanism in the golf swing right there one of the ways that I think it’s really really beneficial to look at this is right here at setup this is the widest point of my
Body so this is the widest point of my shoulders widest point of my hips so if we call this midline right here what I’m trying to do is I’m taking the trail side of my body and I’m now moving this into the most narrow point which would
Be closing this side of my body moving this forward to where now everything I’m still in the same spine angle spine inclination that I started but I’ve driven the right side of my body forward the direction of the target which is going to help me control low Point
Better and help me control the contact piece better versus keeping the trail side of my body back here to where now I have more of a hand dominant release pattern that I’m probably going to struggle with contact right there and when you do that that was awesome when
You do that and I think literally you’re you’re saying get the stick down the to to line right yeah so if Eric’s right there as Eric’s right there this would be the stick on the on my toe line here here again it’s perpendicular I’m going to start moving
The trail side of my body forward I have pressure forward so right about here this is now in front of the golf ball and now I’m going to continue driving this that’s so good right the direction of Eric by the time I get to impact right there and as you’re doing that the
Beauty of having this swing Direction stick in is that cuz some guys are going to think well man if I open my chest and rib cage like that aren’t I going to swing way over the top well if we get the club working from inside as we’re
Doing that which is what the best players do they’ve got significant amount of rotation of those pieces and still get it from inside that’s like Optimal ball striking so the shoulder Works forward for low Point meaning consistently hitting the ball solid ball first ground so I can take a divot but
Being able to do that staying on Center has the club work from inside and even even when Trevor said like he fought with the shoulder going back too far inside we’ll see a lot of guys who like you skip too steep early with the shaft and then the shoulder stays back to try
And compensate from that for later and so th whether you’re too steep too far inside whatever that’s what we said before this is so universally good because we all need to get the Shoulder forward like all of us need to get past that midline can I can I have in there
And try that one doubt cuz I actually haven’t done it specifically like this before so I’ve got this underneath my armpit pit I’ve got this down my toe line here and I’ve got the stick this is just to to make sure I stay from inside
So I’m going to make a little back swing here get this stick over get this stick over the toe line and I’m trying to feel that like add or pass impact essentially that sensation absolutely so it’s like when when you do that again right there
So like we could give this so this is Eric this is his Center so he’s got his pressure forward and now you can see he’s driving his Trail sight in into his lead side versus just rotating everything which would be over the top and that’s what I think you and I see a
Lot of is people just go up to the top and they say all right we got to get our low point forward and we just go into too much of a rotation and it actually starts to steepen out the golf club and so from face on if we do like the line
Up from the ball you’re saying like as my shoulder’s working forward my head is staying like back over that ball line correct yep that would still be on its initial axis that it started so I’m going to try and feel like I get this over that line kind of pass impact here
But keep my head on ball line let’s go ahead and do one yeah that was pure that is so good right there yeah so yeah gosh I like that as a visual too like that just kind of straight keeping the head right in line with the ball line as you’re
Working through so I don’t get too far this way and have this as a little addition in there like that um I like that any other add-on pieces with this I think it’s pretty I think it’s pretty straightforward for you guys to be able to have this I really like this in there
Y like these two that we started with and maybe you just have this as another visual yeah together another it’s another great visual yeah you can we can do the trifecta right here and that’s three Club heads you said three Club heads three CLS okay let’s see this feels a little
Tin cuppy let’s see if I can put these here together and I like that motion there too and look at the TR on that now I like that a tragic got the tiger terms so I like these two listen guys getting the trail shoulder forward we’ll put
That on screen you guys will see some pros you heard us talk through it it’s like you need to get the Shoulder forward for low Point control low Point control three words you have to be able to do that to hit the ball consistently solid doing that while still being able
To get the club working from inside is like golf swing Utopia and as a simple feedback station it probably doesn’t get any better than this so I like that if you guys have any questions always leave a comment down below that was awesome thanks man appreciate thank
You I’ve told a lot of friends like hey you need to get on air Coral golf like you have to well my name’s Armando linky from Katy Texas just right outside of Houston my full swing had always got me in trouble uh short game was always good
I would shoot around mid 80s low 80s on on a good day and as soon as I started getting with JT I’m talking about like the second or third session like so two months two and a half months in some things I was he was implementing started
Working right off the bat with the short game that I had I started breaking 80 pretty consistently joined in May I think September I shot a 71 it was like the lowest score I had ever shot I’ve told a lot of friends like hey you need
To get on airo golf like you had to first of all I was like the C like the value is just so are you going to get that many lessons and be able to learn this much and use all of these other tools to be able to refer back to all of

👍💯
This is the best tip/concept/image!! Thanks guys! (Hi Ty, I beat you here. 🙂
Another great video. Getting my right shoulder rotated forward is my number one goal for 24. You sold me – my checks in the mail for coaching. Also you should market a shoulder antenna. Best teaching aid of 24.
I thought the best part of the video is when Eric showed the clip of the pro and said "inside the trail heel". That makes the most sense to me.
You two are the best duo in golf! Where does Trevor get his cool duds?
Beautiful…. how high is that angled stick from the ball? From top of ball to tip of the stick? Thanks
Eric this video is great! It goes along with what Steve Holmes has been working on with me. I get the right shoulder going down too much and right tilt too early and not good contact. Thanks for this video!
The swing thought that changed my game years ago was “right shoulder down, under, and through”. The down part assures that you’re not immediately spinning it out, over the top. The under part helps maintain the right side bend. And, most importantly, the through part gets it driving towards target, and keeps you from bottoming out behind the ball. I rarely “save” videos, but this one is going in the bank. Great stuff, guys.
What a great video !!!
Pete Cowen!!!
Pete Cowen explains it quicker and much simpler. But thank you for all your videos
Happy New Year Eric. Great lesson. Does this also work for the Driver and Fairway Woods?
Eric….I used to do this drill you have at the beginning, but I hated how it made me pull the club inside during the back swing. My normal backswing would always clip the alignment stick. It definitely helped on the downswing, but because I normally hinge my wrist a little early to ensure the club stays in front of my hands, it was a disaster of a drills. What am I doing wrong?
This only works if you have the correct right wrist angle. Also, the right arm has to release during the down swing, terrible to try and hold angle which many people do. It's a good exercise but I think it's only scraching the surface.
I love it. Free golf lesson from the dude from jemiroquai. Great tips, thanks lads.
I assume this doesn't work for driver though right?
