I think this debate just got A LOT more interesting!

#detroitlions #onepride #nfl

It’s time to reopen and rehash the ultimate debate for the Detroit Lions who’s the better quarterback Matthew Stafford or Jared G the conversation may just surprise you stay tuned everybody we used to be a team no one respected we used to be a team no one feared that was then this is

Now first victory of the year on the line Go’s got it back looks grow Enzo you know who we are 10 five Endzone touchdown Detroit Lion and you know where to find us we won’t be far we’ll be on your front porch waiting for you we are the new Air allons and we

Are driven by Detroit hello everyone and welcome back to yet another episode of MCM Motor City Mania I’m your host David te Pike and we’re diving in right now but as always I just want to say to those that are tunning back into my show I just want to

Say thank you all for your view your support your patronage thank you all for everything that you do it absolutely means the world to me and I’m ever so thankful for each and every one of y’all and to those that are tuning in my show

For the very first time I just want to say thank you all for giving my show a shot I hope you all enjoy the content but even more so I hope to gain you all subscribers if I’ve earned and deserved it and I just want to say to everybody

God bless I hope you all had a Merry Christmas I hope you all have a Happy New Year and with that let’s dive into the show so here’s the thing folks why am I having this discussion I need to clarify that right now because I went through this whole recording once and I

Asked myself that question at the very end of the recording so I’m like no no no no we got to redo this when we’re talking about Matthew Stafford and Jared G why are we talking about this right now here’s the reason why because when you think about it Matthew Stafford and

Jared Goff are always going to be joined together because of that trade and because of that trade everybody’s going to ask the question who was the better quarterback now here’s what I will say if you’re going to compare the two as far as the totality of their careers you

Really you realistically have to ask the simple question here as much as I’m a golf fan you have to ask this question who’s got the Super Bowl ring who does not that right there kind of sums up the question for me at least in that regard however though that’s not why we’re

Having this discussion because again I’m not going to compare the two as far as their careers are concerned I want to talk about for the Detroit Lions here because again I can’t compare what another player has done once they’ve left their current franchise and moved

To somewhere else but what I can do is compare okay what did you do with the franchises that you were at least both a part of that I’m a fan of which that’s the Lions so that’s why we’re talking about them here because it’s like okay we’ve already seen that the Lions have

Gotten all the picks that they’ve gotten from the Rams and put those players into play now we’re talking about what have those guys done while they were here in Detroit and put that comparison in because you have to think about it here Matthew Stafford he’s still a very

Popular person here in Detroit that’s not going to change anytime soon Jared G has gained a lot of popularity over the last couple of years because of his hard work because of the fact that he’s not going to lash out of people and now most importantly because

He’s taking the Lions to the playoffs and they have won a division crown with him but when you think about it in Detroit sports franchises Detroit sports media for each and every one of the Detroit sports franchises that are out there whether it’s the Pistons the Tigers the Red Wings and the

Lions one position always gets more praise or criticism than any other for the Pistons it’s the point guard Tigers it’s the pitcher Red Wings it’s the goalie and for the Lions it’s the quarterback now when we’re talking about this whole thing when you take a look at every single other franchise that’s been

Here in Detroit it has not been nearly as long for the last time that they won a title of some type whether it’s been a division title whether it’s been a world championship whether it’s the Stanley Cup the NBA Championship does not matter you take a look at every single one of

Those teams whether it’s the Red Wings the Pistons or the Tigers it’s not been nearly as long for when they last won something versus when the Lions last won something up until this point when you take a look at the Red Wings they won their last division championship 2010

2011 they last won the Stanley Cup in 0708 Pistons last division title 08 last championship’ 04 Tigers last pennet in 2012 last division title in 2014 so again not very far off from the current day in comparison because when you take a look at the lions like

Everybody already knows the last time we won a division title was in 1993 when the division wasn’t even the NFC North it was the NFC Central so you’re talking about a massive difference in time here now why am I talking about the position of quarterback here well again when you

Talk about teams like the Red Wings the Pistons the Tigers you usually are trying to attribute it okay this one particular player really stepped up and did well for those teams when it comes to the Pistons okay you start taking a look at the fact of who was the point

Guard who were all these other players at the time same thing with the T the Tigers who was the freaking pitcher blah blah blah blah blah when you take a look at the quarterback situation for the Lions they’re usually the ones that either get a lot of Praise or they get a

Lot of criticism and that has not changed in the last 30 some odd years that’s been going on for the Lions it just does not change and here’s the reason why I’m going to say this because again we as lions fans all know this to be the truth some fans will blame the

Ownership whether it’s been the fact of William Clay Ford rest in peace or his wife Martha Firestone people have blamed the Fords blamed the Fords in the past and if it’s not the ownership it’s the management whether it’s been the GM such as Matt Millan Martin Mayhew or Bob

Quinn or it’s been the head coach whether it’s been Marty morning wed whether it’s been Steve maruchi Rod Marinelli Jim Schwarz Matt Patricia the list goes on and on but if you talk to almost damn near any Detroit Lions fan the one person they almost always agree

On as far as blame gets asserted to is the starting quarterback and let me tell you something folks 1993 30 years that’s a long time to go about it I was born in 1994 if you take a look at every quarterback from 1994 until now so the

Very year after the last time Lions won a division title there are 20 starting quarterbacks on that list that’s a lot of starting quarterbacks now that’s not meaning that they all started the majority of the Season majority of the Season were started by players like Steve Mitchell uh sorry not Steve

Mitchell Scott Mitchell Charlie Batch Joey Harrington John knna Stafford Sean Hill and currently Jared G there’s a lot of other guys on that list and I’m pretty sure a lot of people would choose to forget like you know freaking Gus farat Stony case Ty dmer Jeff Garcia Dan

Orlowski and all those other nonsensical dudes but my whole point is this 20 quarterbacks over the case of 29 years that’s a lot of starters and a lot of those guys have been that have shouldered a lot of blame lot of blame some of it Justified some of it not

Justified but here’s my whole point when you take a look at every single one of those quarterbacks that I pretty much am talking about every single one of those quarterbacks save one has something in common they all never won a division championship the only one that’s an

Exception to that rule is Jared G which brings us to the point of why I was talking about what’s the topic of this video why are we talking about it because now that g has won that division Crown now I have to ask the question that I’ve been trying to assert for the

Last couple of years is Jared G the better Detroit Lions quarterback than Matthew Stafford cuz you have to start considering some various points when you start having this conversation who had the better statistical production in terms of quantity versus quality who had the more roster help who

Had the better ability to win games or the better ability to win who has the better athletic ability things like this are stuff that you have to consider when you start looking at this kind of a conversation so that’s why we’re having it because for me it’s like listen the

Quarterback position is one that’s always going to be under scrutiny in the NFL and when you’re talking about the Detroit Lions it’s even more highly scrutinized so that’s what we’re going to do who’s the better Detroit Lions quarterback is it Matthew Stafford or is it Jared gof well let’s dive in when you

Take a look at the statistical production of J of sorry Matthew Stafford this is what you see Matthew Stafford lots of completions lots of attempts not really the highest completion percentage but a freaking crap ton of yards lots of touchdowns lots of interceptions as well pretty low

Passer rating that’s what you got for Matthew Stafford at least from his time here in Detroit when you take a look at his win loss record as a quarterback I understand that’s not totally attributed to the quarterback but that is a that is a stat that usually gets attributed with

The quarterback I know it’s a team stat but the quarterback’s usually the one that gets that record Stafford’s win loss record is a quarterback 74 wins 90 losses one tie he’s also zero and three in the playoffs he has four winning seasons one other little fun stat about

Matthew Stafford that I’m pretty sure most people don’t know this some might some might not Stafford also despite the fact of being one of the most prolifically productive quarterbacks with the Detroit Lions and in the n NL during that time he never once had two consecutive passing seasons of 25

Passing touchdowns or more I could not believe that until I checked it out but it’s the truth you take every freaking year that he was the quarterback of the Lions he never had two consecutive years of 25 passing touchdowns or more that was kind of bewildering to me now that’s

Stafford right off the bat when you then take a look at Jared gof in his time here in Detroit because again we’re just looking at Detroit Lion stats here not talking about anything else when we take a look at golf stats here in Detroit again substantially less again you’re

Only talking about about 1100 completions to a little over, 1600 attempts almost 67 completion percentage rate almost 12,000 yards 75 touchdowns 25 interceptions 96.6 passer rating so again those are what gol that’s what golf has to provide but again when you take a look at the win loss record again

Team stat but obviously it usually attributed to the quarterbacks 23 wins 20 two losses one tie has not been to the playoffs yet with the Lions that’s about to change but he has two winning seasons with the Lions and one division crown that right there is Jared G now

Let’s talk about let’s talk about what’s realistically going on here who’s the better Detroit Lions quarterback based on quantity Stafford easily Stafford blows freaking Golf out of the water when it comes to when it comes to quantity he’s freaking got more than 35,000 Yards More Than Jared G does he’s

Got way more passing touchdowns that right there does not even come close to what golf can provide however though I’m going to say this right now quantity is nice and all but you want to know what I prefer better quality when you take a look at the Quality golf destroy

Stafford it’s not even close think about this folks when you take a look at golf’s pass rating over staffords Golf Pass rating is almost seven points higher I think it’s like 0.1 points off from being seven points higher that’s that’s pretty bad for staff but then when you take a look at the

Touchdown interception ratio as far as the totality of how many yard sorry how many touchdowns interceptions they’ve thrown over their totality of the careers here in Detroit gol’s touchdown interception ratio is at a three even Stafford’s was at a 1.95 so it’s not even at 2 to one that’s a problem but

When you start breaking it down even more think about this gol has thrown 75 touchdowns to 25 interceptions when you start doing the percentage of the amount of throws they actually have that means means gol is throwing a touchdown at almost 4.6% of every throw that he has

So that’s actually pretty high the interceptions is only at 1.5% so that’s a 3.1% plus that’s really good when you take a look at Stafford’s on the other hand his touchdown percentage is at 4.5% so that’s that’s equ that’s that’s Equitable the the problem is is the interceptions which is at like

2.2% so at that point it’s like dude you’re losing almost an ex ra full percentage Point compared to golf so again the efficiency the quality of the stats it simply does not compare to golf that’s why if you’re talking about quantity Stafford wins if you’re talking about quality golf

Wins now that’s statistical production when you then move off of the statistical production and you start looking at roster help again this is one of those conversations that it kind of depends upon your perspective when you’re having it because again I know some some Lions fans are instantaneously

Going to say well Stafford never really had a whole lot of help here in Detroit and for the most part I could kind of agree with that argument but again there are some problems with that argument first big problem for me is 2014 that was arguably Stafford’s best

Roster that he ever had here in Detroit and that was one of the best rosters in my honest opinion that the Lions had had since the Barry Sanders era cuz think about it you go back to that roster they were 11 and five that year best record

They’ had since 1991 but that Ro that roster it had five pro bowlers on it at the end of the season three offensive two defensive and on top of that it had three allp proo players all of them on defense then you go back to the offense

The Lions had two 1,000 yard receivers that year Golden Tate Megatron they had one they had a 1,00 yard rusher something had not been done in a long time that was Reggie Bush and then to go back to the defense like I said three allros on defense that def defense was

Absolutely suffocating it was a top five defense that year actually top three so when you think about it you had great offensive weapons Golden Tate Megatron Reggie Bush you had great defense as well what more could you ask for when we take a look at Jared G on the other hand

His best roster obviously is the current one it has a lot of young Talent a lot of talent that’s primed for more growth that’s primed for better results in the future the problem is while that has helped out on the offense giving a top five offense the defense has not been

Able to match what the offense has been doing the defense has been and again I’m not trying to roast Glenn here or roast the defense but it’s like dude the facts be the facts the defense as large has been mediocre this year the offense has been pretty much what’s been saving a

Majority of the games for the Lions this year so if you want to kind of assess this whole process I think it’s a draw and here’s the reason why because if you think about it what has Stafford had and what has gof had that the other did not

Have well think about it what did g what did g not have in comparison to Stafford G has never had a top defense never once Stafford actually had three years while he was here in Detroit where he actually had top 15 defenses or better in 2013 the defense was ranked 15th in points

Given up 2014th like I said it was ranked third 2016 it was ranked 13th Stafford at least had three years where he had top 15 defenses gol hasn’t even had one year but then the big difference for golf compared to Stafford is that gol has never had a generational wide

Receiver like Megatron don’t get me wrong I love Alan Ross Brown but even Ross Brown would say he is nothing compared to to freaking Megatron he’s great but he ain’t Megatron great Megatron was in a class all his own but when you take a look at Stafford on the

Other hand what has Stafford not had that gol had or golf has pardon me Stafford did never never had a top overall offense he never had an offensive line that golf had he never had a tight endend that golf had these are all things that Stafford never had

The ability to have access to really and then on top of that Stafford never really had the ability for a GM to get good rookies for him to work with so that again that’s not totally on Stafford but again it does prove that both of these guys did not necessarily

Have a fair Shake in comparison to the other that’s why I’m saying it’s kind of a draw in terms of roster help they both had things that the other didn’t have so again I can’t really say one had it worse than the other now we get to the ability to win

Obviously this is the biggest I would say the biggest ability that a quarterback has to have is the ability to win now I know for some people they’re going to say well David you can’t really judge you can’t really judge Matthew Stafford too harshly because of the fact that Detroit was not

Really good when he was here for the majority of that argument I could agree with you but there’s a couple of reasons why I can’t and again I go back to 2014 primarily but I also go back to this simple argument who did Matthew Stafford

Have to throw two for seven out of the 12 years he was here that was right probably arguably the second best wide receiver of all time in Megatron and think about it the best he could do with Megatron was make three playoff appearances and only have four winning

Seasons no division crowns I’m sorry but the same argument that was made with Barry Sanders has to be made with Megatron if Megatron goes to any other team vers in the NFL he’s winning a Super Bowl just like Barry Sanders had he gone to any other team in the NFL he

Probably would have won a Super Bowl and again I love Barry Sanders I love Megatron but it’s just simple logic and fact and I’m not trying to be a Debbie Downer it’s just the simple point is had those guys been on any other team that

Was a lot that was a little bit better than us they probably would have at least won one Super Bowl they couldn’t do it with us because either one we didn’t have the quarterback or two we didn’t have the team quarterback that would be Barry Sanders team that would

Be Matthew Stafford and Megatron but the point is that 2014 team that was the year you could have had it that was the year again Golden Tate Megatron Reggie Bush top three defense it’s like dude that was the year that was the year that Stafford could have had at all but if

You go back to Stafford in 2014 he was actually really bad by comparison think about it you go back to 2014 Stafford barely had over 60% completion rate he had 22 touchdowns to 12 interceptions that’s a less than two to1 touchdown interception ratio his passer rating was God awful it was an

85.7 think about it you’ve got both a prime golden Tay and you have Megatron to throw to you have a 10,00 yard rusher Reggie Bush in your backfield and you’ve got a top three defense and those are the numbers you put up during that year the best year the best roster that the

Lines ever put around you that’s what you put up that to me’s a bit of a problem but again this is where it gets even more to a problem for me again best roster best year that was a year that some people would probably like to

Forget because of a couple of games but the biggest game for me other than the Dallas game and the wild card was the last game of the year against the Packers think about it Lions going into that game they’re 11 and four just like the Packers it’s a winner take all game

Pretty much whoever wins wins the Division and has a shot for the number one seed you go into that game you go back to the play notes you go back to the playby plays what happens in that game Stafford has a critical fumble in the third quarter that’s lost the

Packers take that fumble score a touchdown from that fumble what happens the Lions lose by 10 points 30 to 20 that fumble wound up being a big reason why the Lions not only lost the game but lost the division crown and lost the chance to go higher up in the seatings

For the play playoffs which is why they had to travel to Dallas for their first for their playoff game but then I know a lot of people still remember the Dallas game because of the fact that that pass interference call was not called on Brandon pedigree but let’s be fair and

Honest here go back to that game as well Matthew Stafford had three turnovers in that game he had two fumbles and one interception two of those turnovers were in the third quarter alone or sorry not the third quarter in the second half so think about it here the Lions only lost

Lost that game by Four Points you take those three turnovers away or hell just take away one of those turnovers the Lions have a much better chance of winning that game so I get it that freaking flag that really hurts and that’s the one that most people remember

But Stafford was a big component a big reason why we couldn’t win that game because he was turning the ball over left and right it’s hard to win regular games when you’re turning the ball over three times forget playoff games that’s almost damn near impossible so that’s why when I take a

Look at golf it’s like yes golf does not have all the fourth quarter comebacks that Stafford had but you want to know what he does have that Stafford doesn’t have he has a division Crown the last quarterback that did that was freaking I don’t even remember I don’t know that

Off the top of my head I wish I did I wish I would have at least looked it up before I started recording this but that’s my whole point Stafford had all the goodies in 2014 and he coughed the ball up in both games that could have

Gotten him that Glory that kind of Eternal Fame that now golf has because he was able to play clean and I’m referring to golf when Stafford could not that’s why for me it’s like if you want to talk about winning in big moments at least as far as in Detroit

Jared G has got Stafford beat I don’t give a damn about all the freaking fourth quarter comebacks because you know what all those fourth quarter comebacks that freaking Matthew Stafford had all they’re going to amount to is a freaking number on a stat sheet it’s not

Going to be the same thing as a banner flying in forward field that says yeah division T division champs 2023 golf can say yeah that’s my banner along with the rest of the team I had where’s yours I know staff I know golf won’t say that but that’s much my whole point that’s

How this kind of argument boils down for fans then you start looking at the next one this one is kind of important to me because like I said earlier in the beginning of this episode when it comes to the fan bases of Detroit based media and also Detroit based franchises fans

Here in Detroit they are something else I know I’m part of that but it’s like dude I’ve seen some fans that make me are like wow that’s your personal thought process but just think about this who’s had the more adversity since showing up here in Detroit was it

Stafford or was it g it was golf let’s be honest here when Stafford was drafted by the Lions yeah there were a lot of expectations on him but everyone considered him the hero the savior of Detroit because they’re like this is the guy that’s going to help us get to where

We want to go this is the guy that’s going to turn around the Detroit Lions how was Jared go heralded when he got here oh he’s a bridge quarterback he’s a bum we can’t wait to get rid of him we’re just looking for our next guy in

The draft pretty much Jared G was never given a chance here in Detroit pretty much everyone was thinking he was trash as soon as the trade went through as soon as Stafford got drafted nobody was saying anything bad about him they were like listen this is a guy that we just

Need to develop and he’s going to get us to where we want to be that’s a completely different reception which means gol had it much worse than Stafford did I’m not saying that Stafford never had his bad moments cuz he sure did get some licks from the from

The fans and from the media but overall golf has had it much worse from the fans because even to the day there are fans that want to get rid of him and it’s like the dude just won you a division crown with the rest of the team and you

Still want to get rid of him what the hell does the guy have to do win the damn Super Bowl this year and I’m pretty sure even if he’ done that people would still want to get rid of him either way I digress final category who was better

At developing Talent now I know this is contingent upon the team’s GM at the time and I know that Stafford didn’t really have a really good GM with him because Martin may he was the best one he had but even then still not that good because again when you take a look at

All the freaking talent that Stafford was drafted as far as wide receivers and tight ends only one of them really is going to have any sort of a mentionable career and that’s TJ hackinson and he only had hackinson for what two years that’s not really a good showing for

Matthew Stafford again is that totally on Stafford no it’s not but it’s like listen your job as a quarterback is to develop young talent and bring it up to be good cuz again as far as I’m concerned take a look at guys like ma uh take a look at guys like pton Manning

And Tom Brady they took nobody named players like Wes Welker Julian Edelman Marvin Harrison and they develop these guys into bigname wide receivers some of which are going to go into the Hall of Fame that’s my whole point I understand that looking back on it now these guys

Did not turn out very well for Matthew Stafford but that’s my whole point you’re supposed to take that talent and you’re supposed to develop it into something take a look at what G has done in comparison to what Stafford did he got Alan R st Brown in the fourth round

Alan R st Brown is going to be an All-Star wide receiver folks no doubt about that he’s already a top 10 wide receiver as it stands Jameson Williams he’s not quite there yet but I expect that Jameson Williams is going to be a top wide receiver probably in the next

Year or two take a look at Sam lto already considered a top five tight end and he’s a rookie that’s what Jared G has done in three short drafts compared to all the freaking drafts that Matthew Stafford was a part of the list that Stafford has in terms of overall draft

Picks compared to golf is ridiculously different but the amount of results and the amount of production that golf has gotten from his rookies that’s what’s that’s what freaking just makes this lopsided list even more ridiculous because it’s like GF has had less and has gotten more so again quality versus

Quantity but that’s my whole point when you start taking a look at what golf has been able to do in three short years versus what Stafford did in 12 the fact that golf has won a division title when Stafford never could even though Stafford had a generational tight end

Had a top three defense had all these different weapons around him even if it was for that one year but even still had a lot of other pieces around him what was the argument that we kept hearing out of everybody as soon as golf got

Here he’s never going to be as good as Stafford he’s never going to be able to surpass Stafford because Stafford was a much better quarterback than G really Stafford never won a division title Jared G did and again I understand it’s not like Jared GF went out there

And play all 22 positions but it’s like listen that’s the position of quarterback you’re going to get a lot more blame and a lot more praise regardless of what’s going on here so it’s like listen Stafford wasn’t able to get that division title that the Lions

Had longed for and when he had the chance to do it let’s be fair and honest he crapped the bed when G had the chance to do it he not only met the challenge but he passed the challenge CU think about it the Broncos game he passes five

Touchdowns easily destroys one of the best passing defenses with the freaking Broncos we go into Minnesota a team that we had not beaten their home stadium for a while goes in plays a clean Flawless game we win that game to take the crown from the division title winner last year

That’s what good quarterbacks do Stafford was not able to do that here in Detroit that’s why I’m saying in my opinion based upon the stats and the logic that I presented G is the better quarterback in Detroit even though he has less than a fourth of the sample

Size than what Stafford had now I know some people are definitely going to want to argue with me and you know what that’s fine but I feel like I’ve been fair with this as best as I possibly could cuz again don’t get me wrong I still like Stafford but to me it’s like

Listen you’ve got to take a look at the facts for what they are but anyway with that having been said I’m going to cut this video really quickly here and I just want to say thank you all for watching in another episode of MCM I

  1. Did Stafford ever win a cold weather game(that mattered)? And as you mentioned the costly turnovers Stafford made are probably the reason he had all those 4th qtr comebacks.

  2. I gotta say, Matt is my favorite all time, Lions quarterback!! I suppose that could change tho. Jarrod is ok but, gotta say I can't wait to see Hendon out there. I see in him, something the Lions have always needed!! Someone like, another Micheal Vic!!!! GO LIONS!! 😃

  3. No question Mathew Stafford is the better quarterback. I will say this.. Jared Goff most certainly has a hotter wife.😅

  4. To me, poetic justice dictates that the younger, more accurate and younger QB shines in the playoffs. Stafford is more experienced and flashier while Goff is steadier, less of a risk taker & more reliant on a methodical grind it out running game. It may be out dated & old fashioned but the current Lions run it down your throat, ground it out & beat you into submission REALLY PLAYS INTO GOFFS STRENGTHS. Admittedly Goff didn't play well in his only Super Bowl appearance while Stafford won his BUT Goff was a very young QB whereas Stafford was a seasoned veteran with a far superior overall roster in L.A. stocked with erperienced veterans in their prime. The last point is that in Goff's lone Super Bowl his very young coach McVay was simply out coached by a much more experienced coach.

  5. Love your view… but i remember that Dallas game and our Oline sucked.. we had talent..but no oline.. i love both.. but we dont gotta knock Staff to prop Goff… i dont know who is better great lions both.. but with the team we have now im good riding with Goff thats nothing against Staff

  6. 2016, 7 comebacks to make the the playoffs in a 9 win season, Only Stafford Could, that trade for the rams future assets made this team really good to dominate, time will tell, Your comparing Goff to Hersal Walker trrade, we fleched the rams, I'm happy with Goff but Stafford will make aa losing team with no running game or defense make the playoffs 1/3!, Stafford with this lions current roster on offense would scare the Ryan coaching dynasty! 2014, we would have won that game if life was honest, mammonism, a few million dollars would have been lost for the nfl via profit sharing, the collective owners are about fixing games to maximize profit, who is in the business of losing potential profits, they're walking to to the bank like "ja", they are not German…, Don't let this demoralize, understanding nature will always be a lions fan, team build, similar to Miami, reminds of 90's cowboys, smart, super bowl or bust Heil Henry Ford, William Clay should had his team forcibly taken

  7. I also want to add that Goff was a young QB led by an arrogant young coach McVay who believed his own press and got completely out coached by a veteran coach, Mike Tomlin and a veteran QB, Ben Rothliesberger. Crybaby McVay responded like an immature child by throwing Goff under the bus AND demanding that he be shipped away in disgrace to football purgatory Detroit along with 2 first round draft picks and a third round pick ( current sensation Iffy Melantowu). Wouldn't it be poetic justice if the Lions do play the Rams, hound Stafford the gunslinger, pressuring him into costly turnovers AND cause arrogant, immature wonder kid McVay into blaming old, immobile gunslinger Stafford into costly turnovers generated by the very players that the Lions aquired as a result of McVay's last childish temper tantrum. Will McVay threaten (AGAIN!) to take his ball AND go home?!? Will he take a cushy broadcast job where he can feed his gigantic ego by criticizing the very teams that he couldn't beat? If that's what ends up happening; I humbly suggest that McVay doesn't let the door hit him in the ass on the way out!!!

  8. Enjoyed the history lesson, the Analysis was spot on i believe the dynamic situation that quarterback position in Detroit has not been talked about much anywhere in the footbal world like you have done here , keep the narrative going the best seems yet to come .

  9. To me Stafford had better talent….but Goff has better command of an offense and better touch. I was ready to move on from Stafford

  10. In fairness Stafford is also known as Stat Padford he was criminally known for being so far behind in games defense would go into prevent defenses and would make the score not look as pathetic as it appeared. Stafford was no comparison to Goff when it actually comes to effectiveness

  11. It's stafford.

Goff has had an embarrassment of riches in his 3 years as a starter. He's had Ben Johnson a innovative play caller. Stafford had Jim Bob Cooter, Joe Lombardi, Scott Lienhan, Darell Bevell who got play calling taken away by Matt Patricia to himself….himself.

Goff was blessed with an amazing O-line from day one. Remember the dark days of Swanson, T.J Lang and Rick Wagner? How about the days of Gosder Cherilious, Rob Simms or Stephen Peterman?

Goff has a GM who has actually drafted dynamic playmakers on offense. In 3 years Brad Holmes has drafted dynamic playmakers Sam LaPorta, Amon-Ra St.Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs and Jamies Williams. In Stafford's 12 years in Detroit the only dynamic playmakers on offense the lions have drafted were T.J Hockenson, DeAndre Swift, Kenny Golliday before he got lazy and milked an ankle injury and possibly Jahvid Best before the concussion but that's a stretch.

Goff has had a running game. A QBs best friend is play action but only works if you can run the ball effectively. Goff has a running game that is an threat. There's been more 100 yard rushing games in Goff's 3 years than in Stafford's 12. The entire offense isn't on Goff's right arm like it was with stafford. When you're one dimensional you're easy to defend against. And somehow Stafford kept the lions respectable in seasons we had no business being respectable.

Just saying Goff wins games stafford didn't so he better is low level thinking.

  12. I totally agree. I would not take Stafford over Goff right now, my conclusion before this episode. Goff has embraced Detroit and the Lions' culture and we should embrace him as well. He's earned it. Today on the Herd Cowherd did a guess the mystery QB with stats in the top 2,3 to 5. I already knew the answer. Yup, it was Jared Goff. Cowherd said: "I've said for years, Goff throws a purty ball." Last Thursday with his regular 1:00 "meat sandwich" segment with Greg Cosell, he ended the Lions/Broncos exchange with "Goff throws a real purty ball." (Usually he says "beautiful") Immediately Cosell chimed in "Oh, he sure does." Cosell has been watching NFL films for 45 years, and neither hands out unsubstantiated compliments. Both know their stuff well and tell it like it is. Nuff said. Goff's our man. Hands down.

  13. This is a lame take. Goff and Stafford both went to the SuperBowl with almost the same team.

  14. I'd like to see this same review 2 years from now. I feel like this is a bit unfair leaning Stafford based on Goff starting at the beginning of the rebuild.

  15. We won a division with Goff. Under Goff the team is playing better. Goff is showing leadership that stafford never showed. Stafford might have a better arm. He has the talent to be a franchise qb. But could never do it on a consistent basis. I put both Goff and stafford in the tier 2 of qb. Above average to good starter. Both have there strengths and weaknesses. Both need talent around them to do well.

  16. Incomparable since it's a team sport, endless variables to compare, so in the end it's a mere opinion

  17. To be fair, I hate this debate because in my opinion. They need to have the same coaching staff or the same players. For an accurate comparison.
    In my opinion.

  18. Goff was the quarterback implementing McVays offensive schemes on the field. Goff is the one implementing Johnson’s schemes on the field. Goff is doing it with 2 different teams and Stafford couldn’t get it done while playing in Detroit.

  19. Goff was behind the 8 ball when he arrived in Detroit. The Rams him and four big draft picks for Stafford. That in itself says Goff is not as good. More interesting, Stafford took the Ram team that Holmes had helped to build and won. The team that Holmes is building here could be a lot better than the Rams and could win multiple Super Bowls.

  20. Problem with that logic is that this might as well be the greatest lions team of all time (and thats sad). If Stafford had this offense, defense, and O-Line, it wouldn't be close. Stafford this season has been balling this season with a terrible O-Line, 5th round Rb/Wr rookies, and a non healthy Cooper Kupp. Also Stafford since he recovered from his injury after the bye has been winning and throwing 14 TD and 1 int.

  21. BTW; Lions coach told ALL referees BEFORE the game started that they were going to do this play.
