Against Morehead State uh in a game they trailed by 15 late in the game with 10 minutes to go we’ll talk about that they win by 169 68 after um Malik Renu is able to block a last second shot attempt by uh the guy that scored 30 points for Morehead straight today is
National Signing Day for college football and it is expected to be a busy day around Memorial Stadium for Kurt cetti and his staff as a uh Bevy of new players coming in now a lot of these guys are transfers so um I’m not sure how exactly what the class is set up to
Be just yet so there’s so much to keep up with there um but regardless it is expected to be a very good day for Indiana Tyler Cherry the fourstar quarterback from Center Grove has committed to Indiana man how about that quarterback’s room for Indiana right now it it’s going to be a
Bustling busy place and you’re going to have two centerr team forward teammates in there with TR with Tav Jackson and Tyler Cherry but Tyler Cherry uh that that’s a another good sign for Kurt Signet and Indiana football because Indiana football was not on his list prior to
That so good things on the U on the rise for there and we will keep you informed but you could also go to thehour.com and they have a live link that will be uh updated all day long as things come across because those faxes start coming in and that’s when things become
Official um there’s so many different the wide receivers transfers you’ve got miles price coming in from Texas Tech kesan Williams uh and M Donovan McCully coming back miles cross from Ohio who was Curtis RS number one target at Ohio coming in so Indiana is I have not said this ever
Indiana is set offensively next next for next year I can’t believe that I just said those words this is December and I’m talking about next season and you can already say well man they’re loaded uh on the offensive side for Indian indana wide receivers quarterbacks uh I don’t know how deep
The running back’s room is just yet we haven’t heard from Josh Henderson uh he has been deciding on whether or not to turn pro or come potentially come back he did not enter the transfer portal to my knowledge so that is on the table for him um man we’ll hear from
Every involved in the game last night kayin dor he is your 20 23 AP coach of the year kayin of course a great friend of the show was on again recently and uh as he they are preparing for the college football playoffs playoffs at Washington Tom Allen officially named
The defensive coordinator at Penn State that’s your 2,000 American coaches association coach of the year so Indiana football has had two coaches of the year on the that were on the same staff within the last three years so to say that the national you can get national attention in football at
Indiana if you just win and I I think that uh Kurt cetti is garnering a ton of well I know he’s garnering a ton of attention how much nationally that will translate to that will they’ll wait to see what happens but if Indiana starts winning I I’m telling you people they
Will love in Indiana would be an incredible story it it’s a it would be a great story line the proverbial worst program in America winning now and I’m just putting I don’t want to put the cart before the horse but um plenty of plenty plenty of uh things to talk about
There Michigan loses to Florida in basketball in two overtimes in the Jumpman classic um I’m assuming all the teams that are in that are Nike teams that that I don’t know that for a fact but I know that Michigan is a Jumpman team um another sad note former Wisconsin guard Walt
Mcgory passes away just the age of 24 also from cancer he was a member of their program from 2017 to 21 so he uh has played against Indiana here recently uh so our thoughts and prayers go out to the Wisconsin Basketball family and his family and friends as

At Andy Mor Honda get more to your door and just get more go to Andy Mor honda.com we got all that covered now how’s everybody doing Kent on from Mount Pleasant uh MET Michigan Kent was just down at a game I believe correct can’t make sure that I’m right
On that uh Kevin in from Jeffersonville John Kevin how are you sir um Bob from Georgetown you know Georgetown is uh little town where I the first town I lived in over in Indiana in Floyd County down there in Southern Indiana and the elementary school
Is one of those old it used to be a high school it was former high school but a little bitty high school but their gym is unbelievable I grew up playing pickup basketball in that gym in the wintertime and I didn’t realize it because this predated the movie hooers
But their gym is exact exactly like the one that hooers was filmed in right down to the panel panel wood uh siding on the the out of bounds area where you have about a foot there’s no room out out of bounds um and it it’s just so many
Similarities but what a a great old gym Joe Hinton the former coach at Floyd Central started out in Georgetown was Pat Grahams coach at Floyd Central one of the Wiest coaches in the state but uh just a little little trip down my memory lane there uh Kent pointing out tjd had
His first NBA double double last night I was watching trying to watch that game but uh I couldn’t hear any sound I’ll have to check on that and get all that information as well out uh yeah last night if you didn’t uh get a chance to check out the postgame show
With Tod ly it was I if if you would have given me a million dollars and just and a choice of 15 games how well they haven’t even played 15 games yet um what are they 10 10 and 10 and three right I I don’t even know the exact record but
Uh and giving me a list out of their first 15 games and said pick pick the one that’s going to draw the most talking points it’s going to be the one that talked about the most that’s going to uh you know our audience was man right up peing right up until the time
We got off but uh and it was mostly just Todd talking about all the various things involved in the game but beyond that uh that talked about free throw shooting and you know we all myself included think that a lot lot of that is mental but uh you know
Todd is on that on the line of thinking that it’s not mental it’s just pure in inconsistencies in their shooting that these guys have deficiencies in their shooting stroke and that he’s not sure that anybody’s working with them on it that anybody talks to them not that they don’t have
Capable people like Jordan holes or Calbert Cheney but I I we don’t know is is that something that Woody is is pointing out saying all right you you guys there’s some intricacies in your shooting that if you could alter your shooting would be better and Todd is
Adamant adamant that he or someone like them could just help them because these are obvious to him someone like him and it’s not and he’s not putting himself in this light of you know I’m Mr Fix It it’s there’s certain things that that are noticeable by people with the right
Eye like and he uses the reference uh a swing coach in golf which is every every major golfer has a swing coach and they are always tinkering with the swing or making sure it is the same or doing this and that and these guys don’t have that
Now I know a lot of them play with trainers or get with trainers in the summertime but it’s not always working on the certain issues and and that doesn’t make that person a uh a shooting stroke instructor whatever Indiana does not shoot the ball very well and that’s not just from
Three-point line it’s from the free throw line as well so there there there’s definitely something to what Todd’s saying but uh we’ll get more into that later uh thank you uh Jennifer go ahead John boy trying to take a break Oh no you’re good let you know we can take
A break here shortly uh thank you so much Jennifer yeah it was I I couldn’t believe that thing went long we went over an hour we usually don’t go quite that long but uh I was like Wow little surprised that it went that long john jumping on from Southern Brown County
Thank you sir as well uh we’ve got lots more coming up here on Indiana Sports Beat radio including Dylan sin looking forward to talking about today is also national Signing Day and it’s going to be a lot to keep up with we’ll have H Kurt Signet tomorrow uh after he speaks today but
We’re back with more Indiana Sports speed radio right after this we’ll be right back to the golf club at eaglepoint Studios for more Indiana sportsbeat radio with Jim Coyle presented by wow food group and Andy Mor Honda of Bloomington in the mark morning Dylan morning guys how are
You good Jim I’m gonna go grab my coffee real quick I’ll be right back you can’t use your thumb to wipe it off Dylan it makes you have to use a piece of cloth yeah oh well it worked a little bit oh how are you my brother I’m good
I’m good just uh trying to keep up with everything here yeah um anything happened already um well I you got uh one of the one of the guys they got was uh transfer running back from James Madison that hadn’t previously committed so now are transfers signing today as well
Some of them I I I they can I not all of them probably will but are they are they in the same window do they have to sign in the same window when you transfer um I believe so yes I didn’t know that I think they might actually be able to sign basically
Whenever am I crazy I I can’t yeah because you’re transferring schools so as a student yeah whenever transfer as on being healthy eating hummus and carrots how about that CA because I remember basically every year they have like the the teams basically tweet out transfer recruits the same day they they do on
The high school ones but I don’t know if what the rules exactly are do you have do you have time to do two segments today uh sure there’s so much to unpack basketball and football sure we’ll split up this uh you know these 40 minutes then we’ll talk first about basketball
In the game last night okay Dylan you’ve been a hardworking dude haven’t you you’ve been going to Indiana then to Indianapolis then to when is IND I always say that oh yeah always I give he’s the second hardest man in in the Indiana media that’s right who’s the hardest Kyle our next guest
Yeah the same day that’s right Kyle Ned rip uh I give it to Kyle every day and twice on Sunday and as a matter of fact I voted for him for the uh sports writer of the year for Indiana tell I mean all the that he
Has to keep straight are you kidding me all those high schools all those players just couple coule seconds Z the golf club at Eagle Point in Bloomington this segment is brought to you by The Chop Shop home of the Indiana football and men’s basketball coaches Shows now back to the golf club at Eagle Point Studios for more Indiana sportsbeat radio Jim Coy presented by wow food group and Andy moranda of Bloomington way welcome back Indiana Sports speed radio here on this December day it’s the 20th and uh five days away from Christmas Merry Christmas Dylan sin joins us from the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette Merry Christmas to you and yours Dylan Merry Christmas Jim thank you for
Having and all that uh brother we would be remiss without you um you are going to be a busy man I we were just talking in the break I I I I dubbed the the second second hardest working man in in Indiana in the state of Indiana media uh
Behind our next guest Kurt Kurt our Kyle Ned rep rather um I always say that he just because the Dude covers there’s three how many high schools are there in Indiana 360 something along those lines yeah it’s no he doesn’t cover every single one of them but let me tell you he does
A damn good job of covering a high percentage of them in one way or another just keeping up with Indianapolis High School is is tough as as I know you cover Fort Wayne High School which is a job in of itself so but uh don’t want to
Get too far off the topic last night Indiana basketball taking on a Morehead State team that um I’m not saying should have been an easy win because today in college basketball there’s there’s there may be lopsided scores but I I’m never gonna say anything’s an easy win just because we’ve seen college basketball
Has really risen the tide of the waters equaling and leveling out across the sport with the transfer portal so but last night’s game was way too more much exciting than Indiana fans wanted or expected or that there should have been uh a a a very very poor first half of
Play Dylan from especially from Indiana starters they combined I thought it was 14 but Todd corrected me said they combined for 12 first half points 12 no I I mean I said it at a halftime look Anthony Walker saved IOU last night if if if Anthony Walker had not played the
Way he did that game would have been not Not only would IU have lost they would have gotten blown out like it was it was incredible they were on their way they were on their way to getting blown out they were down 15 yes and um and no it
Was the an Anthony Walker show 18 points and rebounds and Mike Woodson said of the best game he’s played at Indiana the best game he’s played period for about three years now TI career high for him yeah a a career high that was set in December of 2020 it tells you how long
He’s been around college basketball um but yes it was it was not a good effort um and I I think what we saw was you said no win should be easy of course but Indiana played the way Indiana should have played for the final eight minutes
Of the game right they they scored they on a 20 to2 run and it didn’t look like they really broke a sweat doing it right like it wasn’t it was didn’t look like it was that difficult for them to pull off it looked like they basically said
Okay well I guess we got to start playing now and they did and they won um that’s not how you want to play basketball and I mean they said the right things after the game about how that shouldn’t happen like they they shouldn’t come out flat like that they
They shouldn’t need to do that they and Anthony Walker said it won’t happen again trust me and he like Anthony Walker I I think Anthony Walker is a more important leader on this team Than People realize he’s despite the fact this his first year
Here and he’s a he’s a not a starter he seems like a pretty important voice in that locker room so my guess is that he is going to uh light a fire under some people uh last night and today and you would like to think they come out with a
Better Effort against North Alabama tomorrow a North Alabama team is on a very similar level to Morehead State they played um they played uh those two teams actually played a week and a half ago and I think Morhead State won by seven or eight something like that so
Indiana will be on upset alert again tomorrow if it comes out flat again so they have an opportunity tomorrow um on short rest to turn around and say and say basically hey that was a fluke on Tuesday let’s go out and prove that we actually have improved and we can play
Some basketball here I I’m looking at the first half stats right now and I I if brutal it’s brutal I don’t even know I’m like H how is this possible zero kwar zero points 0 for three from the field uh he did have three rebounds uh
An assist and a foul in 16 minutes of play so played most of the three fours of the uh of the of the first half Gabe cups pretty much zeros across the board uh we’ll get into him Todd Larry just says right now he’s the guy that just
Brings the ball up to half court and then he’s no longer a part of the offense and there’s a lot of Truth to that uh Malik renew Four Points he was Indiana’s uh second leading scorer as starters go he did take three shots hitting two of
Those he had six rebounds in the first half yeah that that’s a an important number there uh in the 12 minutes that he played so he didn’t play as long keny ybak two points 0 a five from the field in the first half he was two- two at the free throw
Line in his 12 minutes and Trey Galloway coming off of that career performance against Kansas goes three for six six points 0 for two from the free throw line that is a serious problem he is shooting 50% from the year yeah for the year from the free throw line and this
Is a guy that was supposed to be one of Indiana’s three-point Shooters and you can’t hit the free throw line um that’s that’s a worry he played 18 first half minutes and he had two turnovers along with those six points and as a matter of fact Indiana only with five total
Turnovers last night one in the second half yeah they didn’t the ball first and half they didn’t the ball this is the craziest stat line I’ve ever seen in my life life um and let’s see Sparks zeros gun had two and uh Caleb Banks had three first half points but Anthony Walker in
Just eight minutes of play he scores eight points being uh very efficient outing four of seven he was over to at the free throw line that’s uh sad to see there again because Indiana goes three for nine 33% at the charity strike in the first half I mean it’s like they
Were sleepwalking yeah and I you don’t have a re you don’t have an excuse to ever be that bad they didn’t you cannot use the excuse of coming off of this Candace game as a hangover they lost the game and I understand that sucked for him and but
You didn’t lose a game that you got screwed out of you didn’t lose a game that you played your best so you there’s nothing you I to me you can only have a hangover when you go all out you give everything and you do about everything
As right as you can and then you lose that’s hard to take but they didn’t play well they they turned the ball over too much against Kansas and missed too many free throws very simple math and so there there’s no excuse for them having a hangover uh or coming out flat
Whatever you want to call it uh I don’t ever get that it’s the lights are on the people are in there you you you’re going through warm-ups how how does it if you’ve got to get your mind in that same position I think yeah no I and that was
The thing is is it obviously did have something to do with the Kansas game it was I I think what it was was they put they didn’t play their best against Kansas but they put so much emotion into that game coming off of the Auburn game was like Hey we’re gonna we’re gonna
Throw everything we have into this Kansas game we’re gonna we’re going to go all out for it and yeah they didn’t play their best but the starters all played or well everyone except Malik renew uh because he was in foul trouble the starters all played like 35 38
Minutes in that game so it was one of those things where there was an emotional hangover um and I and I do think that that was part of it and I mean Bruce Weber the who was calling the game on the Big 10 Network said it at
The outside of the game he is like look the crowd is not as into this game as it was on Saturday right at the outset he said that he said it was it was it was crazy in here on Saturday it’s pretty muted right now and so I think that was
Part of it is the crowd wasn’t there to get IU jazzed up at the beginning of the game no students no students it it was a smaller crowd that the I I I I was not there personally but the Rapters were probably pretty empty would be my guess
Right um I wasn’t there either I have to admit okay so yeah you could just kind of tell that the the the crowd wasn’t as into it the players weren’t as into it I mean that’s a problem like it’s a problem that the players they needed
That kind of they needed that kind of Boost from the crowd to get going you should be able to do to get the energy yourself and that that I think is kind of an underrated thing and we can get get into this more you said you want to
Talk about gay cups that is an underrated thing that IU misses with Xavier Johnson Xavier Johnson is an emotional leader on the floor for this team he is a guy that when you need a little bit of emotion or or someone who’s going to attack he’s gonna do it
He’s going to give you a little bit of a boost and not having him out there there’s not re there’s not really guy that that does that for you I don’t think Trey Galloway was that guy on Saturday but he’s not usually that guy and so I someone needs to step and
Anthony Walker tried good for Anthony Walker like he came into the game you said he only played eight minutes in the first half every single minute he was on that floor he was given IU a spark um and they did it again in the second half
And they there was a reason good good on Mike Woodson for realizing that Anthony Walker was doing that and playing him 15 minutes in the second half he deserved every single one of those minutes and more um because he was the guy that was giving IU a spark when he was on the
Court so they need to find someone to do that consistently I don’t think it can be the third guy off your bench some of one of the starters needs to do it it probably needs to be Trey Galloway until Xavier Johnson comes back but that’s something that this team is missing with
X out and it really uh makes me laugh every time I see people say uh they’re better off with x the offense runs better with X yada yada y you don’t know what you’re talking about you’re you are missing probably the most athletic defender on the
Team uh with him just in that alone that doesn’t include the fact that as the point guard he’s also able to score he is quick enough to get got by guys to get to the rim he his quickness with the ball causes problems people say oh he
Turns the ball over he doesn’t turn the ball over anymore than than anybody else uh but when you do turn a ball over like Todd L was pointing out last night if you have the ball in your hands that much you’re going to turn the ball over some especially when you’re really
Trying to push it uh anybody can have zero turnovers when all when you come up the floor and and and never touch the ball again after half the court line and I’m not blaming Gabe Cubs for that he he’s just not an integrated part of the
Of this offense and you can look at the shot that he takes doesn’t take I should say he’s you cannot have a an importance position as important as the point guard and just get no scoring out of them nothing and and it’s not again this is
Not on Gabe CBS he’s being thrust in a in a position he wasn’t expecting but last night was a game where someone like him could Step Up could try to start doing something could uh because you know what he started a lot of games now and you’re playing Morehead State
Indiana the team needed somebody needed a spark be that guy try to be that guy with without forcing but um thank goodness for Indiana fans that Anthony Walker did he was a a man on a mission but he’s always been the best guy off the off the bench for Indiana this year
Yeah no he absolutely has like he he’s a guy who is who is really quick um he plays very very hard um that someone’s got to figure out how to defend that spin move that he does no one has figured out how to defend that yet
Really good for him that he has like a move that that you can’t stop basically um and that three that he hit was enormous for Indiana uh it was the only three that he’s made the entire year and that thing looked about as pure as you
Could as you could ask for it was the only only three Indiana made all night by someone other than Trey Galloway they went three for 16 Galloway made two Anthony Walker made that one and galloways obviously galloways were huge um but but no to go back to Gabe Cubs
For a second I I do think that he at least made an effort to get in the scoring column last night I think he realized that they needed him to be a little bit more aggressive um he took a three-pointer that missed uh he took he
Took a 18 foot jumper that missed he had that nice drive to the rim where he finished around the rim like that I I don’t think that he is incapable of scoring I think that he just thinks that or or maybe this is just kind of a freshman mentality where he is deferring
To the guys around him because he’s the Freshman point guard and it’s his job to distribute right and that that it can’t be that he needs to be a guy that can that can score for them at least a little bit you can’t be playing four on five out there offensively and that’s
And you’re right about Xavier Johnson you can’t have too many guys on a team that can get their own shot off the dribble IU doesn’t have a lot of guys who can get their own shot off the dribble Trey Galloway can every once in
A while that’s good for him um but X is the guy who usually can do it and when you have someone who can get their own shot off the dribble that’s how you create open threes that’s why IU doesn’t take many three-pointers because they don’t have a ton of guys in the back
Court who can get their own shot so then they don’t have defenses collapsing and you don’t have kickouts that’s why they don’t take many three in addition to in addition to the fact they don’t make many threes they don’t take many because of that they don’t have kickouts which
Is how a lot of teams get a lot of their threes so yeah g CBS needs to be more aggressive I think Mike Woodson is telling him that and he saw the light turn on a little bit last night he just didn’t make like he could have had eight 10 12 points
Last night he just didn’t make any of the good shots that he took part of it I think is because he’s been playing a lot of minutes I think his legs are a little bit tired as a freshman and his shot is flat like we heard in high school that
He was a really good shooter and I think he will be his shot is flat right now and it’s it’s affec its ability to go in the hoop we saw it last year I saw it last year with Fletcher lawyer at Purdue his shot got really flat at the end of
The year and it was he wasn’t shooting a good percentage and that was why and so I think that Gabe CBS might be suffering from that a little bit too yeah Todd Larry’s talked a lot about they’re just being bad shooting form on this team and
That is why they’re not a good shooting team uh from the field or from the free throw line hey we’ve got a lot more coming up here on Indiana Sports Beat radio Dylan Sin from the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette with us right now next we’re going to talk about Indiana
Football it’s national Signing Day it will be a busy day at Memorial Stadium for Coach Kurt cetti and staff as they are welcoming in a a pretty big class but it’s not all freshman there are a lot of transfers that are coming in and they are flying off the shelves ladies
And gentlemen we’ll have all that and more for you right after this we’ll be right back to the golf club at Eagle Point Studios from more Indiana sportsbeat radio with Jim Cole presented by wow food group and Andy Mor Honda of Bloomington Dr Drew Walker yeah Walker
Does hey does I I know he doesn’t because Woody has not shown and I don’t get this I don’t understand coaches that just have the same lineup no matter what Archie Miller did that and it drove me insane they would be coming out of a half in which an anthy Walker would have
Had a first half like that and Anthony Walker wouldn’t have been in the lineup to start which I doubt that he was in the second half of the Morehead game I’ll have to go back and look but he wasn’t he wasn’t in the lineup but he played 15 minutes in that second half
Mike Woods Mike Woodson knew where his bread was buttered in that game well it didn’t take long to get him in there but I don’t understand why not give him a start you know what I’m saying but I guess he wants to stick with the chemistry but that chemistry wasn’t
Working sometimes you break things up you just to get it to shake it up I mean you just got to do it different sometimes I think but that’s In fairness to him they came out of the second half pretty strong like the the only part of the second half they didn’t play well
Was kind of like that five minute stretch from like 13 minutes to eight minutes but they played the first seven minutes and the last eight minutes were really strong uh the last eight minutes they yeah a 20 to four run yeah yeah it was7 straight points I didn’t even talk
About that again it didn’t seem like they were it was really that hard either like why why didn’t they I mean I know why it’s because they they weren’t all there mentally but like why didn’t you do that the entire game it didn’t seem like it was that difficult they were
Getting anything they wanted in terms of shots and uh they were either forcing and I’m going to they’re going to have I’m going to have to say forcing because it’s happened too often they were forcing Morehead State to a point I think they missed nine straight shots yeah now I
Will say Morhead missed some open shots during that stretch like the shots they had made during the previous portion of the game they missed and that was a part of it Morhead SE just went cold and sometimes when you shoot a lot of Threes you go cold at least IU doesn’t have
That problem they’re always cold let’s see and for everybody that’s talking about Indiana moving on from Woodson Woodson’s not going anywhere why is that even why is that even something people are bringing up I I have no idea because they just gave this is the Tom Allen syndrome they just gave him an
Extension and a raise this isn’t even in that realm in my opinion like Tom Allen had terrible seasons is three and he hasn’t had a losing season there’s he’s saying that like it because it just fired Tom Allen people are in the mood for firing I
Think just a couple seconds guys here we go you’re making the right choice with garnish catering visit garnish catering.com that’s garnish catering.com garnish catering is a proud partner of wow food group this segment is brought to you by Remax Advanced realy Indie Home Pros team by Cheryl seore
Now back to the golf club at Eagle Point Studios for more Indiana sportsbeat radio with Jim coil presented by wow food group and Andy Mor Honda of Bloomington hey hey welcome back Indiana Sports speed radio here on this December day the 20th 5 days out from Christmas for those of you
Celebrating Merry Xmas make the X uh welcome aboard and I hope hope it is warm you are where you are it’s not where I am either look at I’m having to wear this to keep warm man uh chilly but it is a big big football day in America in college
Football and I I can honestly tell you in all of my years of being a journalist a reporter I am this is not counting really during my time uh as a student with when B mallerie is there because they they were Indiana did have a buzz back in the mid
80s with b mallerie and had there been social media and all that it would have been pretty big because you had a a Heisman Trophy Contender Anthony Thompson who should have won the Heisman you you beat Ohio state two years in a row you beat Michigan you get that
Monkey off your back so there would have been such a a buzz then but there has never been uh um a fan Buzz that I’ve seen and much less on social media than there is right now for Indiana football things that I I will put out on social media pass along
Getting four five six times the reaction the reception people are into it and man Indiana football has been a laughing stock Dylan and if Kurt cetti can put together a a bowl win a bowl achieving team next year these fans are going to go nuts because that means they’re
Probably going to be even in games that they’re losing uh that they lose uh of course you don’t expect to go 12 and0 so but it it it’s just makes it the excitement I’ve not seen it to this level um one of my I I sent out the Tweet of
When he recorded him saying his the his big introduction where he says you know Purdue sucks and uh Michigan State and then he got he got such a reaction I don’t know that he planned on saying Michigan and and Ohio State do too but such a reaction from saying that about
Purdue he just threw Ohio State Michigan in and but that was the the biggest tweet I think I i’ ever had minus the the bob Knight thing and for that to be football boggles my mind yeah no I mean based on the way this offseason is going the first couple games of Memorial
Stadium next year are going to be exciting like actually genuinely exciting for the first time since like late 2019 and pro and like maybe even before that you like you’re you’re right about the excitement I mean I I I I’m an IU Alum um I went there I got there in
The fall of 2012 uh so right at the near the beginning of the Kevin Wilson era um and yeah it’s never been anything close to this in term just in terms of people think that IOU is actually doing something right like Tom Allen had moments where it was like oh they’re
Moving up in the world right that was to me that was happen stance they they Tom Allen was I love Tom but that was not a position he was ready for but he had he he got really lucky with having getting kin to board come in and and then him
Selecting Kane wck was added to that and right then he had what he needed uh to to to to succeed yeah there was that the there was that offseason there were a couple moments in the offseason between 2020 and 2021 where they they were coming off the 2020 season they they
They got the commitments from the mccullas remember it was they got the commitment from desan McCulla they got the commitment from D Mulla and it was like oh this might be something and then like three minutes into the Iowa game it was clear like nope that we were wrong
Sorry I never I I will never forget because I traveled to that game in Iowa City yeah and we all went there in the media Corp thinking Indiana’s GNA win this game it this is going to be a start of a a great year for Indiana and you
Talk about getting punched in the mouth I mean the old Mike Tyson saying everybody has a plan until you get punched in the mouth um and that’s exactly what happened to Indiana and we were like whoa oh wait a minute what what what’s going on with his team yeah
Yeah and so that it was it was a very brief moment and like thankfully I guess for Kurt STI I don’t think that that’s going to happen this year because IU starts the season with Florida International uh I guess if they do lose that game I guess all of this goes away
Real quick right uh I don’t think that that will happen um I I do think the Indiana is bringing some serious Talent into the program uh in a way that we haven’t seen for quite a while and we can talk about it now I mean Tyler
Cherry is a dude Tyler Cherry is a real live that’s that’s a that’s a great land a four-star quarterback absolutely and by the way like look everything that IU is feeling right now Michigan state is also Feeling by the way it’s Jonathan Smith is come in and done basically the same thing at
Michigan State where he’s gotten guys that they’re excited about he’s really reinvigorated that program after really tough couple of years for them and so to get Tyler Cherry away from Michigan State because that was the final two was IU and Michigan State so two programs
That have a lot of momentum and and to get him away from Michigan state is a really big deal too because that’s those are kind of the waters that I think Kurt Signet wants to be swimming in is recruiting with the Michigan states of the world you’re never going to recruit
With the Ohio States and the michigans you can recruit a good staff at IU can recruit with Michigan State it can recruit with Nebraska you know th those teams I you can say we can compete with those guys especially for kids especially for kids inside the pro for
Inside the state right like that’s IU has never done great in Indiana but it’s not okay and so to go get one of the best players from Indiana in the class that’s really big and I and it’s not just recruiting like um Chris ignet has said that he doesn’t care about
Recruiting rankings and he and he shouldn’t but you should trust your eye as a football coach but the recruiting rankings are backed up by Tyler Cherry’s play Center Grove he was outstanding this season he’s really really good he he completed 7 1% of his passes this
Year that’s unheard of for a high school player and it it’s not like they were dinking and dunking either like obviously they have talent there so he’s throwing to some good receivers but man he he’s a good good player I don’t think he’s gonna start this year because you
You brought in Curtis Rook to do that but he is going to if if Tav Jackson sticks around there’s gonna be one heck of a quarterback battle in 2025 between those two former Center Grove guys uh yeah I was thinking that but you um this quarterback room is packed it is
Uh I mean loaded with to the point to where there’s definitely going to be someone not there next year uh which doesn’t seem like that’s going to be a problem for for Kurt Signet uh you’ve got the the RoR kid who’s coming in with only one year to go but he brings in
That experience you you’re expecting that he’s going to be the starting quarterback and that all the rest of these guys are uh going to be not fighting for number two but just fighting to become the heira parent uh but that does not just because someone gets name number two don’t don’t get all
Hung up on that because growth continues for everybody and that could change but I agree with everything you said that man who who’s going to be that quarterback two years from now the fact that we’re even talking about that again blows my mind we’re sitting here talking
About who’s going to be in which one of these guys are going to be in theana quarterback in two years and and I’m like what the hell were we in a a Time Warp but uh that’s what’s going on and to be able to do that that quickly shows
You why Kurt cetti was a good hire now does he go out and win these games we’re gonna have to wait and see but simply by looking at what is going on right now that’s where I have you have to I think be a the opinion that cetti was a good
Hire because of the the buzz that’s going on the recruiting that he the job that he is doing uh tally Cherry was not coming to Indiana prior to Kurt cetti getting this job Indiana was not even on uh his list to my knowledge uh they weren’t um on his um choices but yeah
The fact that he’s able to do all that that says everything yeah no absolutely I mean he was like that’s the thing it’s it’s Tyler Cherry is kind of like a a McKenzie mbaka or Malik renew where he was committed elsewhere he was committed to Duke Mike Elco leaves Duke to become
The Texas A&M coach he decommits and good for Kurt zetti for realizing hey there’s an opening here there is a chance for me to go get a guy a real live guy and he went and got him like it was it’s the same thing that Mike Woodson has done the last three off
Seasons with like the late committing festar and so um yeah it’s it’s a huge deal I like Kurt cetti is the first coach at IU that I can remember that didn’t think we oh it’s G to be a slow build he didn’t come in saying that we’re going to do
This slowly step by step piece by piece maybe four or five years from now we’ll have it going and like he has a process and and a process he believes in don’t get me wrong but he wants to win he doesn’t think it’s going to take four or
Five years to get there he thinks he can do it relatively quick quickly and and he thinks he and Kevin will like think of it this way Kevin Wilson came to IU thinking he was going to build the program into six seven eight wins and then go get a big
Job because that like I because he he he was the offensive coordinator Oklahoma he clearly he clearly wanted to be a big- time head coach in college football and he thought getting IU to six seven eight wins was the path to becoming a big time coach Kurt cetti thinks that IU
Can not only get 678 but can do more than that and he plans to stick around for that it seems like now maybe when he’s 66 years old he he runs off and becomes the head coach at Ohio State and honestly if if Ohio state is gonna hire
Away from IOU I wouldn’t blame him good for Kurt zetti you did your time go for it if you’re 66 years old want to take that on go ahead I don’t think that’s G to happen I think that they probably have their guy for the foreseeable future which is why people were
Concerned about his age I actually think you can spin his age into kind of a positive because he’s not going to Le in four years if he’s got the program going a little bit he’s not going to take that next step probably because that he’s he he is that age where it’s
Like you’re looking for a place where you can finish out you’re looking for a place where you can say I’m I’ve left the Legacy here and I’m done and so I think that he sees IU as that kind of job and is gonna build with that in mind
And so I I really do think that that he has a plan here that he is executing step by step yeah I was uh writing down the quarterbacks that I’m aware of you’ve of course T Jackson in the house there but you’ve got Alberto Mendoza who flipped
In a Miami Florida quarterback not the university uh from Columbus High School I believe but you got Tyler Cherry uh the fourstar from Center Grove and you’ve got Curtis roor from Ohio in in that quarterback’s room that that is um Man without knowing that one of these
Guys are going to be like an NFL type guy uh whether it’s Trent green or or uh Nate sudfeld this has to be one of the most talented quarterback rooms Indiana has ever had at one time yeah and that’s why you’re exactly right I don’t I don’t
Think that all of these guys are going to be here next year right like there there’s no way you keep five quarterbacks all of whom believe they can start right like Brock Lowry that was a guy they added at the 23 class last year um and like if he doesn’t if
He doesn’t see some like movement up the depth chart this year he probably leaves because you have like you have guys that IU is recruited over the top of him right um so like so you’re not going to keep all five of these guys but the fact
That they’ve built the depth that they have right you’re not just saying okay we have one guy and we’re going to ride with him and that’s kind of what IU did in 2022 with Connor basac right and when Conor basac struggled they didn’t really
Have anyone else to turn to it it was it was a struggle when Conor basac went I mean Jack T also got hurt and that didn’t help but it the the depth is is to a place that we haven’t seen in quite a while in this quarterback so it it’s
The the combination of Youth depth and talent I think is something that we haven’t seen at IU a quarterback in my in my lifetime yeah and uh has pointed out Signet also pointed out in his opening press conference Indiana had five one- score games last year that
They lost and that James Madison had six one score games that they won uh and that they led the comp the country in that and then that goes back to his is I hate to use the the word word but uh uh oh gosh now I’m forgetting it what
Complacency he the one thing that he talked about complacency he you can’t be complacent in any Avenue on on any position group on anything and I I think that that’s something that uh you’ll see a change in like special teams Indiana had had a kind of a rise in that but
Last year was was terrible uh for special teams they really committed a lot of bad mistakes that that were costly uh but the talent coming in to look forward to see how it s signs the dotted line um but I I it’s expecting to be a a massive day
In Indiana football history in regards to where their future goes especially as we look forward to a new Big 10 yeah no I mean that’s the thing is that that’s this is why I un needed to make this move now with ton Allen I think and and again you said you said it
Earlier I agree with you love Tom I think he’s a great person I I just think that the juice was gone that whatever juice he had in 2020 it was gone it wasn’t coming back right and so I think that that’s why you needed to make this
Move now to get a fresh start and a new identity as the conference is expanding as your kind of as your role in the conference is changing right you don’t want to be stuck at the bottom of this league because college football is changing around you and there is a
Chance that there is going to be a breakoff segment of teams 50 60 70 teams that break off and do their own thing in five to eight years and you want to be part of that we talked about this earlier have to be part of that you have
To be part of it because if you are not guess what for all those people who think that oh we should just focus on basketball we’re a basketball school that affects basketball too do you do you want to be Yukon getting kicked out of their conference and having nowhere
To go like they like Yukon was in the middle of the 2010s they were in there’s a reason that Kevin Oly tenure fell apart and it’s not all on Kevin Oly like it it is a bad situation when you when your football team gets kind of left behind that affects the entire
Athletic department because because no matter how good your basketball team is and how much money it brings in football brings in the real money so you need to be part of those big football programs if you want to have success in other sports too absolutely uh what is up next for
You my friend I will be in Bloomington uh tomorrow night for North Alabama so we we’ll uh see if I you can bounce back from the bounceback game I guess absolutely that and lots more we’ll be keeping up with the signing day national Signing Day go to the hoo.com as well

A discussion that other people had afterwards um I think he took it he took it um but first of all I should have been a little more clear there were three I should have I meant to say at this level when I was asking him about nil but he did want
To compare you cannot compare the Sun Belt to the Big 10 I I don’t care what he um wants to to say it ain’t the same uh you know it’s not Nebraska even much less Michigan Ohio State um Michigan State GE whiz the money those guys make when you make $6 million
A game and that’s what Indiana makes in a season no I’m sorry it’s not close to the same but I don’t think I got told off all right Jim I will I will let you go but have a good one okay buddy I can’t thank you enough and uh enjoy uh T

More details this segment is brought to you by Hanks pizz now back to the golf club at Eagle Point Studios for more Indiana sportsbeat radio with Jim Cole presented by wow food group and Andy Mor Honda of Bloomington how’s everybody doing welcome back to Indiana Sports me radio on this Wednesday it is college football national Signing Day go to the hoo.com to uh stay up to date on all that is flying uh for the hooers um Doug sent a uh a video clip that I just looked at it
Showed uh at um I think that was in Indiana’s run at part of their run last last night that um Morehead State put the ball in play twice on the same play uh a guy stepped across the line put it in play to a guy
Who then stepped out and put it back in play again um just just one of those odd little things but I think that was in the midst of IU’s run so it certainly didn’t help him any um to keep up with the national Signing make sure you go to the hoo.com
There’s a live blog there Kurt Signet and his new staff have uh like I said worked tirelessly to sign their uh their hooer first class uh with their name and impact on it winesday Indiana is able to make many of its commitments official in turn Indiana can officially uh recognize
These people they can talk about them because until they are signed a coach can’t can’t mention them can’t talk about them and uh we will certainly watch those as they come in um National letters of intent tie you to a school at least so you have that but
We welcome in Kyle Ned rip from the indd Star and make sure you’re following Kyle to keep up with uh as I mentioned before when Dylan was with us we gave I knited Dylan the second hardest working man in uh Indiana Sports Kyle but Kyle nedp always the the
Busiest man in Indiana Sports and I said I can’t take that title away from Kyle baby I said he’s got it um and always will National letter vent day today which is a college thing of course but a lot of Indiana guys involved and probably none bigger right now than
Tyler Cher the fourstar quarterback from Center Grove who had uh already committed elsewhere to Duke and Kurt cetti after getting the job and the job and the job change at at Duke was able to land uh Tyler Cherry well I guess once they get the letter of attemp but
He committed to Indiana on yesterday that’s that’s a gigantic win Kyle because Indiana does not usually win these kind of get these kind of guys from the state well yeah they they didn’t win the first time around with Tyler Cherry so you know it didn’t you know he was
Obviously he was he was headed to Duke um you know so kind of a a fortunate turn of events at least for IU fans sake is that Mike Elco got the Texas A&M job uh otherwise he’s headed to to Duke I’m sure no doubt um you know and that when
He committed to Duke he had some really good offers that had just come in actually Penn State had offered him uh right around that time when he committed to Duke he had you know I can’t remember everybody he had at the time but he had a lot of of really good offers including
IU I think IU was actually the first school that offered him uh back probably almost a year ago now uh but he you know obviously there was coaching change there that sort of opens the door uh Michigan State and IU basically became the two schools along with Duke that he
Was looking at uh he kind of crossed Duke off there late and Michigan State I know they had some other uh quarterback uh you know bringing some other quarterbacks in as well so you know IU kind of became the you know the front runner and you know it’s a family that
You know you they live close to you know not too far away from Bloomington so you know kind of everything sort of fit together and the coaching change IU obviously made a made a change there as well so yeah it’s a it’s a big one I mean I think he
He’s one of the highest rated recruits that IU has in this class if not the highest so you know that’s uh you know you’re getting a guy and I’ve covered him the last two years he’s he’s improved a lot we didn’t know much about him uh when he he started out you don’t
Know I mean I don’t know much about any anyone who hasn’t played varsity football at that point but I was so impressed with him last year and then this year he was just even better I mean more efficient um you know just just seems like he puts everything on the
Money you know he he’s tall you know can see over a lineman and you know he had a really good receiver too and Noah Koy who’s going to Notre Dame to to play baseball but uh just a really good player I mean really good passer he’s
Not like a super mobile guy not a dual threat guy necessarily but he can move a little bit in the pocket he’s not going to take off and run a ton but uh but yeah good athlete good good good player uh very very um you know has a good head
On his shoulders good leader you know all those things and uh I think I’d be I’d be excited if I’m an IU fan I think he’ll need I don’t know if he’s a guy who can come in and play right away this necessarily I you know I don’t know
About you know it’s always hard to project quarterbacks you know in general you know as as we’ve seen over the years it’s just so hard to project because so many things around them have to be right too uh but uh but I think he’s mean he’s
He’s about as ready you know at least from a a standpoint of you know having played at a high level of high school football for the last two years um you know to get himself ready to play at that next level you know I I think he’s
He’s uh on a on a good track absolutely and not only that Indiana has two guys off of the same that were teammates at Center Grove which is which is unusual in the quarterback’s room with because Tav and Jackson um at first I thought that there’s no chance of him transferring
Because he had already transferred from Tennessee but as we see things play out and I’m not saying that he’s transferring but that ability to transfer that kind of was keeping people hemmed in I think the the second transfer rule is I think that there should be I don’t think that I
Don’t think the players should be able to go from school to school to school to school that is that to me causes way too much stress on an athletic department I I think that there has to be some way of getting a commitment for at least two
Years or or or something because there it’s they put there’s a lot of money that goes in uh to an athlete you in so many ways especially the younger ones they’re building them up they’re doing all the things nutritionally but that’s a that’s a different argument uh for
That but Tav in in the pocket now or in you know in the quarterback’s room so he’ll be in a battle with Tyler and with uh Alberto Mendoza this Florida kid that’s coming in Curtis roor to me is goingon to be the expected starter he he’s got three years of experience
Behind him he’s got one year left so he’s not coming to Indiana to sit the bench yeah that that you know that makes the most sense you know is to have him play and you never know how things work out exactly you know and you’re always
One injury away at that position of of having the whole plan kind of blow up and you know things like that not obviously not wishing that on anybody but you just have to you know that that what you have projected doesn’t always happen happen the way you think it does
So you know I’m sure that is the plan and that makes a lot of sense you know honestly um you know so you know I don’t know I mean I would say you know it’s it’ll be interesting I agree with you I mean I just yeah it is it’s hard to
Follow college you know the way it is now it’s just there’s so much Movement we went from you know kind of you know all these rules to almost no rules and it’s just it’s kind of hard to follow it all I’m not saying what’s right or wrong
Necessarily but you know it’s just hard to you know just all of the movement makes it a little bit hard to follow but uh but yeah I mean I think it’ll be you know I think that will probably be the plan you get Tyler Cherry ready uh to to
Probably be you know ready to play in 2025 not necessarily the upcoming season but you know worse comes to worse he’s he’s going to come in there and be you know hopefully be able to push those guys and and get himself ready if if called upon but you know this is a
Long-term rebuild I mean it’s not like you’re gon to you know I know uh you know he the new coach zetti plans to win now but you know in reality you know it’s you give him a long ramp I think to do what he needs to do to build
A program and and uh you know do it the right way and and hopefully you’ll see the results of that in uh you know in the in the in the in the future you know not necessarily this first season well and yeah and but I’m not surprised Indiana has eight home games
On the schedule so that is a great benefit to them they got rid of Louisville off the schedule so that goes the back I call it the old Bill mallerie day scheduling where they had the the it always have the three and 0 start because you have the the three non-con
Games but actually it’s it’s split up a little bit for Indiana next year they get their first two non-con games at home then they travel to the Rose Bowl to take on UCLA before coming back uh but who knows what goes on with UCLA but
They just they just won a bowl game and so that’s going to be a a tough game no matter what and they they’ll probably be loading reloading as well but um Alberto Mendoza this kid coming up Tyler Cherry Tav Jackson all going to be battling Mendoza and uh Tyler Cherry obviously
Freshman D Jackson’s going to be in his third year uh as a college quarterback if he doesn’t get the backup role uh there’s he’s a guy that I would could see transferring out because there would be no reason to stick around really unless he wanted to stay close to home
Right I mean yeah and who knows you know nil could also factor into that as well you know you just you just don’t know for sure what uh you know what’s there on the table uh and and sometimes we see that’s kept kids at places longer than
Maybe we we thought you know and that’s been that has been a an interesting uh you know part of all this nil in this new world is is that you know maybe some guys who go off you know I’m talking more basketball probably but guys who’ go off and and start playing
Professionally if they were a fringe guy you know might go off and start hey I start making some money well you now you can make a little bit of money uh in college so maybe that has been a good thing as far as that go I mean it has
Been a good nil’s been a good thing I think in general uh but maybe that helps the college game a little bit more but yeah I don’t know I mean Tav it quarterback’s always so hard to me because it’s so much about the situation you’re in the guys you’re competing
Against and then you you only have so much time and there’s you can basically can only play one guy it’s not like linebacker where you can play three or four you got you know quarterback’s one one spot you know and and uh you know so
A lot of times just man I mean if you’re going to go I think people need to be smart coming into college anymore and you know we honestly we saw you know it is interesting too like uh you know with Nebraska getting the the rayola guy from
Uh Georgia you know he wants to go in and play I’m sure so and you don’t know if you go to Georgia if you’re going to play so you know that’s another thing too it’s like quarterbacks you know especially that if you’re five star or whatever you you want to play right away
So you want to go into a spot where you can where you can play because that clock’s ticking you know once you get there so yeah quarterbacks to me I I’ve said a few years ago it’s like I’ve stopped trying to figure out like how good these guys are going to be in
College because I’ve been wrong and and I thought Donovan McCully should be a quarterback in college and clearly he’s better at a receiver but but uh but yeah I don’t you know it’s hard to know exactly because everyone’s situation is the situation you walk into is different
For everybody yeah and uh Ross makes the comment that Jackson would have to sit out of year because he’s transferred once well the reason I brought that up is because there are a lot of lawsuits pending right now in revolve regarding this and if it goes the way to to where
You can just transfer all the time to me that’s just a even more of a mess because now recruit coaches are already having to re-recruit their rosters uh for the guys that can transfer and if everybody’s able to transfer again your your workload has doubled to where you
Have to recruit guys you have to make sure they’re not being tampered with uh it there’s just a ton that that opens up to but it to me it takes away from the game but I don’t know if the game cares about that if they’re just going to let
Let it level out itself which sometimes that’s all you can do but if not if there’s something you can do to protect a product that has been really good and really fun uh I’d hate to see it just turn into a free-for-all well it’s it’s sort of a
You know you’re sort of in a situ and I I kind of when I watch college football sometimes I’m like you you wonder about these postgame conversations you know where the you know the players are talking to each other after the games or a coach may talk to an opposing player
And you’re like man I wonder if he’s telling him hey come play with with us you you know because it’s like uh it’s almost like a minor league system anymore where you know if you’re a guy goe have a great season at Ball State or you know uh Indiana State you’re almost
Playing in your way up to another level potentially and you know it kind of always was that way a little bit I guess but it just seems to be more so that way now uh for sure and I’m not saying it again I don’t know if that’s right or
Wrong or indifferent but uh but just it is I mean the the freedom of has allowed it to kind of change you know and I can’t you know obviously there’s tampering you know it’s just a matter of uh but that’s gone on probably forever anyway yeah I mean certainly has yeah
I’m not saying again it’s not you know not like everyone was uh on the up and up before uh necessarily but yeah it’s just it’s it has changed a lot I mean it’s just uh you know I think there’s some good things that have happened too
Like uh you run down the list of the top recruits in the country and they’re not all just congregating at one school now or one or two or three schools now it’s it’s kind of spread out more so I think that maybe we’ll see the the results of
That with this new playoff system and you know some Talent being spread out a little bit more because I think that’d be you know it has gotten a little bit stale I think with the same teams making it every year uh which is kind of a college football thing that goes back
Years too but but it just seems like something something is needed to kind of get some new blood in there and and give some other teams opportunity and maybe this 12 team playoff will allow that to happen uh in the future that’ll be a lot more fun to watch especially with with
What we saw this year but uh getting back to Tyler Cherry not him so much as Indiana now Landing a recruit like that at that level and again like they were not getting those guys they haven’t they they lose them to to to Columbus and Ann
Arbor and those places a lot of the time you see what’s it going to take for Indiana to break through that ceiling because this is a major gift it is yeah and I think uh you know these next few months will be will be interesting for
IU recruiting I mean can you go out and get to you know some of the other top guys you know there I had a list of potential Mr football players for next year uh that ran the other day and I’m not saying all those guys are on that
List for IU necessarily but you know yeah I mean we’ve always said you know can you win those battles with Ohio State and Notre Dame that that you know typically that’s where the top guys in the state go not all of them of course but but if I always say if Ohio state
Offers you and you’re an IND Indiana guy the success rate is extremely high you know and IU doesn’t win many of those uh over the years so you know that’ll be telling I think and I think always the first part of a coach’s tenure you know
Like I said you may not uh you know yeah you know who knows what the record is this coming year but but I think you need to start winning some of those recruiting battles to get some momentum going and you have some cach a coming in as a new coach and everyone’s excited
And you want to cash in on that and they did this with cherry I mean that’s that’s a huge uh that’s a huge win recruiting win it’s a good PR win uh he’s in your backyard he’s a former state champion um you know all those things so that that from a PR standpoint
That’s like saying okay we got our guy who’s who’s in our backyard and uh look out so that that’s a great momentum uh victory for that coaching staff so yeah it’s it’s just a matter of stacking those recruiting wins together and you know building some momentum and I think
A quarterback you know honestly is probably bigger that way than most positions just because guys like you know running backs receivers and offensive linemen they look at who the quarterback’s going to be and and then then he can kind of go out and and recruit uh other players as well and
Getting Donovan McCully back uh from the transfer portal among others but Donovan McCully another local product that was set to leave but they got him back out of the transfer portal and he’s going to be staying that uh also says a lot about what this coaching staff is doing yeah
Great Point uh because that may be bigger than any uh anyone they signed today is bringing back on he could have gone anywhere he wanted to go yeah he was and I talked to his coach a couple weeks ago and uh he wasn’t ruling out
That he could come back to IU but he had some really good options out there I mean he was you know he could have gone to UCLA or you know he had he had a lot of opportunities out there what are some of the ones that you know
Of um gosh I can’t remember exactly I know Michigan was involved um UCLA I know had offered him and uh yeah I mean there were there was some good I you know I have to go back and and look at that but but he had some good
Opportunities there that he uh that he passed up and it when I talked to his high school coach it didn’t sound like he was necessarily ruling out IU but I am a little bit surprised he ended up going that route and it kind of shows
You uh you know I’s making a you know making Headway that yeah great point because that’s about as big as it gets there to bring him back into the fold yeah and uh it’s G to be interesting to see how that continues to mesh uh what
Is up for you I know you’ve got a lot going on do you do anything in regards to the Indiana kids and and this Signing Day yeah uh we actually I mean we have a list going we also I I reached out to uh Kobe Martin who’s in that recruiting
Class at IU and he wrote a little why I committed uh story that’s up now this morning appreciate him doing that for us and then also Ian Moore uh at newal he’s going to Ohio State he did the same so we kind of kind of like a players
Tribune type of thing they wrote why they committed to where they committed Martin Dau and and uh more to Ohio State and uh yeah and then we I had a story up last night on Cherry and we’ll have some other things obviously Zach ostman covers IU football for us he has a lot
Of stuff up there now and and uh but yeah just I’ve written already about you know really the stories kind of when they commit not necessarily when they sign but I track down all the ones I knew who were going to sign today and uh
We have a list up now so you can check that out too but uh and also uh deola Johnny from Speedway I’m going to have a story up on him later probably I don’t know if it’ll be today or tomorrow morning but I’m going to go out and talk
To him today he’s also in the fold for IU as an offensive lineman so he has an interesting uh background and looking forward to talking to him a little bit more today and and funny you say that because linemen are probably one of the position groups that they lose the most
Players out of in this state because when you have a really good one man uh Ohio State comes calling and they’re gone or whomever it is and to to have someone they’ve been in in in the the finals with a couple of guys but landing that big- time lineman that will that
Will to me send a big sign that there’s being there is being a change with what is uh what Indiana football is looked at yeah those guys are the life the lifeblood of your program for sure offensive line defensive line them you know if you can get a defensive end you
Know those guys are like uh you know they don’t they’re they’re hard to find you know those those to me to me those are the toughest to get of the defensive the offensive line if you can get a guy uh you can develop and bring along it’s
Got the size and the and the skill and the ability uh you can build a build an offensive line the defense the defensive line is hard man I mean those guys they have so many great options and I don’t know defensive end might even be a
Higher nil I’d be curious to know like what what like a five-star defensive end you know like that’s Russ yeah man those guys are so valuable to your team um those are almost his biggest quarterbacks to me I mean I’ve always been a you know believe that but but
Yeah I mean if you can start getting these offensive linemen um you know and then a Johnny will be I think a good one you got to also Kev Lawrence from uh from Danville coming in 6’7 uh who is a he was kind of an under the radar guy and his recruiting ranking
Has shot up some uh really good athlete basketball player uh I think he’s going to be really you know potentially I think he’s got the ability to be a really good player uh for IU as well so you know those are some those are some big ones you Styles Prescott is going to
Uh Notre Dame he’s he’s again another big-time offensive lineman uh from Hamilton and Southeastern and then of course Ian Moore are going to Ohio State so you know those guys are going obviously to the big uh programs that you know dominate recruiting around here
So you got to try to start win some of those battles as well absolutely and it’s going to be fun to watch uh this thing turn around Cal Ned rip from the indie star can I thank you enough brother appreciate you and go uh enjoy the busy day we’ll do thanks Jim you
Beta we’ve got more coming up here on Indiana Sports Beat radio what national Signing Day in college football we’re back with more right after this we’ll be right back to the golf club at Eagle Point Studios for more Indiana sportsbeat radio with Jim Coyle presented by wow food group and Andy Mor
Honda of Bloomington man I wish I had have thought of this last night Dylan pow is been oh yeah he would have been good to have on d g it I I just I sent him a message but I doubt he gets it in time I’ve got uh sound from last last night
Woodson walker and a quote from the Todd ly show as well want to use that I hope the Todd lry WS a long one because he was great it’s um I didn’t listen to the entire thing of it but it sounded like it was gonna be a good one and so
Yeah it’s about 15 and a half minutes in the one I’m using he was he was just on the whole time it was Boop it was like lobing softballs up Woodson is um I mean it’s it’s what you would expect I mean it took me a little bit to find the the
Best one I guess but what’s the question I can’t even remember who asked it I pulled these up about a half hour ago um it’s just talking about why things went wrong I guess for a while and then same thing with Anthony Walker why they came out
Flat um so similar questions for both of them we’ll see good show especially for two guests I really hate that you that you determine the show’s quality based on the amount of guests I don’t I’m just saying that mean that means it’s me talking and can’t imagine that
People give a rat what I had to say about much a little bit but not every not not everything because I do not claim to be an expert that’s why I have Todd lirry on the postgame show being the analyst because I know he knows what he’s talking
About and it absolutely does that Justin beard uh it absolutely does that but I en enjoy talking to these guys and getting their takes and the different opinions and spreading them to the people thank you Andy we appreciate that but and that’s all Todd um loading we appreciate you
Man back at you feel you all right here we go part of the wild food group is your butcher Baker and Fish House no matter where you live this segment is brought to you by Bubba 33 in Clarksville and Evansville Pizza Burgers beer now back to the golf club at Eagle
Point Studios for more Indiana sportsbeat radio with Jim Co presented by wow food group and Andy Mor Honda of Bloon hey hey welcome back Indiana Sports feed radio here on this 20th of December 5 days away from CIS and as a program note we will not be live on Monday
Christmas day but there will be a show uh John has put together actually don’t know that for sure there will be a show on Tuesday I need to check with the PDS but there won’t be a live show on Monday or Tuesday and they’re depending on where the what the stations decide uh
You may get a Best of from us on those days so we’ll have to wait and see you and I will promise you I’ll forget about Tuesday and I’ll be sitting here ready to go but um yeah there’s that uh last night Indiana of course knocks off M or
Morehead State barely squeaking by 6968 after being down 15 points with about 10 minutes to go uh a a horrid start to the game for Indiana their starters combined for a whopping 12 points uh two starters just didn’t score at all and and it was just a horrible look Morehead State
Come comes out on fire and they put up 363 pointers in in the game they uh they had Indiana on the ropes and then things started going arai for Morehead State they got into some foul trouble uh they probably started feeling some fatigue uh going at them like that but uh Indiana
Was able to turn things around mostly on the back of Anthony Walker who had tied his career high with 18 points last night and came off the bench to do that uh he was a oneman wrecking crew for Indiana he provided the scoring that nobody else was and if it had not
Been for Anthony Walker Indiana has a very very not only a very embarrassing loss at Simon Scott Assembly Hall but a really bad loss for their NCAA resume which would be coming on the backs of the Kansas loss which was not a bad loss but then when you follow that up with a
A turd uh you tank boy that would have been really bad at the end of the year but they’re able to win and like Todd said on the show last night doesn’t matter how ugly it looks in the column it has a w and or it has an L there are
No I’m going have to coin this phrase but there are no q1 almost s uh there’s q1 wins or quad one wins or quad one losses but no quad one almost um Mike Woodson spoke to the media afterwards was asked what went wrong why did Indiana come out so flat play so lacad
Desically um the entire team not just one guy it’s it’s just blows my mind that uh you can do that but anyway here’s what Mike had to say in loer well again I it it wasn’t real pretty I mean not you know based on how we were
Playing I mean we we’re awful and you got to give them credit because they competed the first half and you know our fans don’t come out to see stuff like that I was very disappointed and um you know we got it going you know late and
Like I said in that seven minute Mark that’s when we really dug in and did what we needed to do and he’s he’s right they did exactly that uh Anthony Walker was uh a leader last night I I think both vocally um and Malik Renu has been I watch him a lot of
The times in the huddles he’s one of the most verbal players that they have as well but walker uh was the guy that led them last night again Off the Bench to do so tying a career-high with 18 points to help lead a 20-4 run for Indiana to
End that game and that included a 17 to0 run uh in to get back in that game and then take the lead but here is what uh Anthony Walker had to say when asked about why the team also performed the way they did um it could be a number of
Reasons I couldn’t I I really couldn’t tell you specifically but it it shouldn’t have happened and we know that and we we obviously uh grouped together and and pulled together and pulled out with a win but this is a good lesson for us they’re a good team they played hard
They’re well coached so just just being able to come together when we did get punched in the face early in the game and finish the game is something that that means a lot to us good comments from um Anthony Walker who who played like a veteran and
Indiana’s lucky to have him on the bench because he has been their best Sixth Man all year I’ve said that a lot and if if you’ve got a guy that you can count on I you’re you’re not going to get 18 points every game Off the Bench from Anthony
Walker just like you’re not going to get 30 points from kle we or this that and the other thing especially every night but kle we has got to start playing better uh he’s gonna have to start playing harder this is the last couple of games he’s really been able to be
Shut down so he’s GNA have to start playing better but the team has to maintain a level of intensity uh last night on the postgame show Indiana basketball after the game with toddler of course uh when I’m speaking with Todd I’m not sure what uh this particular
Comment is from Todd but it’ll make itself known quite clearly I’m sure the only reason I I don’t agree with the hangover comment is because this this isn’t the first time we’ve had this exact same conversation after a game with a lesser opponent we had it against
Army and we had it against Harvard and it’s it’s not a hang it’s not that they’re not trying it’s not that they weren’t into it it’s not that they are have anything from the Kansas game in my opinion it’s that they’re not a good shooting team
And yeah Fred I see your your comment on there and I agree with that except for I will say this just because someone is a good shooter doesn’t mean they’re good at teaching other people how to shoot and and I’ve just always I I’ve never understood why people think that you
Know just be look at take a guy like Reggie Miller Reggie Miller is not gonna go work with people and have him shoot the way he shot he had a very unique shot that was not something you could teach other people it’s not even and half of it’s not even
The shot it’s the confidence to make that make take and make that that’s a part of it that’s a part of it but they’ve got some flaw these guys have definitely got some flaws like they they could be fixed I mean I’m I’m straight up telling you right now if they would
Let me work with these guys they would be a much better shooting team and I’m saying it outright no questions asked that’s a fact but but it’s not the way it works and I I will also say this that’s not a reality because of the NCAA
Rules the NCAA has rules where only a certain number of coaches can work with players on the floor they can’t go bring in someone from the outside they can’t go bring in Steph Curry to come in and work with these guys it’s against the rules they can’t do it
So that was kind of cut it off there we could let it keep rolling if you want but that’s kind of go ahead and let him if he’s let him finish okay here we go that’s I’m not saying that the coaching staff just isn’t doing it it’s not an
Option for them because they can’t go bring in a shooting specialist right now to work with these guys it’s against the rules but these guys easily make some adjustments and changes to be better Shooters but you’re also right the confidence level is is a big issue and
And let’s use a guy like CJ gun is is a great example CJ gun if you go stand and you go play a game of horse with him probably gonna beat you he’s pretty he’s a he’s a good shooter he he can make shots he’s a good shooter but right now
His mentality is if he makes a mistake or takes a bad shot and it doesn’t go in he’s immediately coming out so that’s a that’s a difficult world to live in and I played Five Seasons I only played four but I was at Indiana for Five Seasons
And I can tell you I live that life for Five Seasons that is you have to come in and you got to make something good happen and you got to do something well or you’re coming out because there’s people behind me that are just as good
As me or not better than me so you have to do something positive when you go in there and CJ gun um gabes cups is going to be back in this as soon as Xavier is back he’s going to be in that same position um Anthony Walker is kind of in
This position where if they come in and don’t do something right off the bat out and that’s a tough position to be in and he’s right but that also shows you who you can count on Anthony Walker becomes one of those guys last night uh but again you can’t that’s not something
You can expect game in and game out but in the end has to be able to rely on more guys off the bench than say than Anthony Walker CJ gun Caleb Banks um Caleb Banks is not really boy you’re not seeing the growth yet uh in him you’re you’re still seeing
Some some freshman type mistakes even though this is his second season getting in foul trouble uh that’s the one thing that’s the one knock on Malik renew someone pointed out earlier that he reaches a lot he gets some dumb fouls um no Justin I don’t think so at all I
Think that uh he just makes some dumb fouls sometimes uh he does reach he does not he’s just not quick enough at times he doesn’t make the quick enough move and he gets caught so that’s what happens yeah you can’t blame this stuff on the officials they’re G to stink both
Ways trust me I really they’re not thinking team and all that they’re just watching and and they’re sometimes they’re just terrible uh so that that’s the case there but Indiana has to expect guys off the bench whether it’s CJ gun uh or Caleb Banks like I said to get
Better and provide the minutes that they can and Todd mentioned see that um if Xavier’s able to come back that Gabe CBS will be in that position but not really because he’s out there now and there’s the expectation for him is is very low and I I guess that’s okay because he’s
Just treading water to to get through it and playing good defense uh not really providing any offense which I I don’t care what anybody says I don’t think you can win if your point guard is not a threat if he’s not a threat to score he
Doesn’t have to score 12 or 15 points a game but he has to be a threat to score he has to to be uh able to keep their defenses not focusing to where it’s a four on five situation if he’s removed from the offense that’s exactly what it
Is it’s a four on five defensive situation advantage to the opposing team he Todd pointed out that you know a lot of times now you’re seeing G bring the ball up court and once they cross half court half court he says that he doesn’t touch the ball again and if that is the
Case man I I I get it that he’s young and learning but he still he has got to start getting into the offense um they cannot go through the Big 10 let’s say Xavier is not able to come back you can’t go through the Big 10 with a point
Guard that’s not producing and aiding you on the offensive end because there are going to be nights like last night against Morehead State and it doesn’t matter obviously if it’s home or away away only makes it harder and makes it worse but you’ve got to be able to have
A guy that you can count on in uh in in those situations for him to step up Gabe cups seems to be one of those guys where there when there are kns like that then he can step up and and add something to the team you uh Indiana was lucky to
Have Anthony Walker do that for him last night but going forward it’s going to get tougher uh they’ve got two more games tomorrow night and then uh again next week and then it’s off to Big 10 play and their first game is at Nebraska and Nebraska is you’re going to say it’s
Nebraska but let me tell you going out there uh to Lincoln is not going to be easy for this team I really I really believe that I I watched Nebraska play once they won I forget who they beat but it was a uh a good win for for the Corn
Huskers and we’ll see how they’ve got things going but we’ve got to take a break here at Indiana Sports be radio a little more coming up for you and we’re back with it right after this we’ll be right back to the golf club at Eagle Point Studios for more Indiana
Sportsbeat radio with Jim Coyle presented by wow food group and Andy Mor Honda of Bloomington in the all right was that a good clip from Todd that was awesome okay good that was awesome it’s probably hard to have gone wrong to be honest with you because he was
Just he was he was just on such a great role last night it would take nothing just boom here’s the lob up another softball and he is so knowledgeable and I I don’t care about anything else the dude knows what he’s talking about when it comes to
Basketball he praised when he played he praised the guys he talked about shooter shoot you know shooting uh instruction uh the assistants were very helpful he said Dan docket was probably you know he said do wasn’t the greatest shooter but he was very good at at recognizing and teaching fundamentals and Todd really
Talked about fundamentals I wish we could find that clip where he talked about uh teaching I can’t remember you ever want specific things from the postgame show I need to write down yeah right right yeah I need to needed to do that because that was a really good one
He when he was talking about um the proper form and talking about how Jordan hulls is you know he’s he’s probably the only guy that actually shoots with his elbow underneath the ball like like really good form because everyone thinks that’s perfect how it’s supposed to be
Which it may be you said but not everybody’s like that um and he talked about a time when Todd Todd lindman had an elbow problem maybe surgery or whatever and when he came back he he shot the ball with his elbow out he said they’d be at the free throw line he goes
There would be me uh he said there’d be Brian Evans all americ there’d be Calbert Cheney All-American there’ be Damon Bailey allamerican you got Pat Graham and they’re sitting there at the free throw line with him analyzing his shot and and telling him to do this and
Do that so uh and he said I I don’t see this team doing that but I should have saved that for on the on air hopefully I can remember that yeah um Anthony Le I think his deficiency is just on defense um his speed must to be if there’s a chance that Johnson’s
Gonna be out for the rest of the year why is he listes questionable and not just indefinitely you know what I mean well I didn’t say that I mean I’m just saying what if yeah you always have to plan like jakai Newton people will continue here and there to
Ask about jakai Newton he he ain’t playing this year I can tell you right now he is not going to see the court for Indiana this year the golf club at Eagle Point in Bloomington this segment is brought to you by Reynolds Family Dentistry in Sellersburg now back to the golf club at
Eagle Point Studios for more Indiana sportsbeat radio with Jim Coyle presting Ed by wow food group and Andy Mor Honda of Bloomington welcome back Indiana Sports speed radio here on this December day a Wednesday hope you’re H having a good one you’ve made it to the halfway
Point you’re that much closer to the holiday weekend Merry Christmas um and IND theana I got a present last night from Anthony Walker as they are able to storm back from a 15o second half deficit to defeat the Eagles 6968 behind a career timeing high of 18 points from Anthony Walker Off the
Bench today is also national Signing Day in college football and you can follow all of that’s going on at the.com the signings by the way started early today and by early I mean like 7:24 a.m. yeah 7:25 was the first reported excuse me you’re right 724 was
The first reported s for Indiana and that was Miles cross wide miles cross wide receiver from Ohio now he’s a transfer over from Ohio that uh is a favorite Target of the Curtis roor who came over from from Ohio as well um you also have a running back from Wake Forest Justice Ellison
Who that adds to the running backs room of Indiana having um oh Dag on what’s Tyler’s name Tyler drawing so many names going on but Indiana gets in the the Indi I can’t remember his name but they got out of the got back out of the portal they’ll they’ll throw it up here
In a second uh coming back so that bolsters Indiana’s running backs room but also uh on the defensive side they got a lineman male chimra that came in at 726 he’s a sophomore from James Madison you gotta feel sorry for James Madison no no feel there’s no this is I
Mean I guess you can say Indiana’s kind of a similar boat to this if let’s just say that Kurt cetti was making the jump up to program like Ohio State per se you’d probably be seeing a very similar Exodus from Indiana players if kind of change was happening it’s like I mean I
Guess you can feel sorry for him if you want but like that’s just the way the the cookie crumbles you know as cliche as that might be to say but I mean I mean they’re have to find their new Kurt Signet if that’s possible well Indiana’s first surprise commitment uh of the day
Came uh from James Madison running back transfer Ty Sun laon the fourth sigy of Indiana’s class so that’s two running backs they’re able to pick up uh already by 720 before 730 and that one was not expected he carried for 568 yards five touchdowns on 126 attempts this past
Season uh for the Dukes lton spent Five Seasons at Stonybrook he’ll be a seventh year senior next fall so he’ll be 32 as he enrolls in Indiana he might be he might be my age and that’s not a joke I mean I’m 26 years old four years removed from
College I mean maybe he’ll be a little bit younger than me but that’s that’s insane to think about it is uh he was the first team all CAA conference running back in 2021 total over 2,000 career rushing yards and 21 touchdowns don’t during his time at those two
Schools uh but so you’ve got an experienced guy there then you’ve got receiver miles price that’s coming in from Texas Tech a senior more experience a slot type receiver uh one of two to make uh the call for Indiana on uh Monday price was the fifth official sign
Of this class today 43 catches for over 400 yards and five scores last season added to a career that uh on his time in lmic 161 catches 1700 yards 12 touchdowns with 10 of them coming in the receiving game uh so a lot of uh contined offensive Firepower Curtis RoR
Has previously talked about the senior quarterback from Ohio coming in this guy is experienced and he is thrown for 7,600 yards 50 touchdowns over five seasons in Athens so uh again experience Indiana getting a ton of experience for this first season while they are grooming other guys uh offensive lineman
From Wisconsin and he’s a junior two years years of experience left for Trey weding so a 6’7 315 pound offensive lineman uh that is a a great get for Indiana uh it’s very important that they get that offensive line bolstered up for Bob bad who has bringing experience Bob
Bad came from uh Wisconsin so there’s familiarity with there on him Kean Williams a wide receiver from Wake Forest Indiana man killing Wake Forest and James Madison with players coming from that uh those programs he is the other talented slot playmaker Indiana received word of his commitment on
Monday night he has signed with the hooers as well so Indiana just getting a ton of offensive Firepower he hauled in 107 receptions for 1300 almost, 1400 yards and six touchdowns uh at Wake Forest Brody Coen he is a from Clarkston Michigan and he assigned his letter of
Intent a top tight end in the state of Michigan committed Indiana back the end of April but he maintained his pledge uh to the hooers dantrey Henderson uh from Charlotte North Carolina another former James Madison commit he flipped to Indiana earlier this week as he’s a 2024
DB uh the fourth JMU former JMU commit to flip his commitment to Indiana this off season he is a two-star recruit out of Charlotte six 6 foot 165 lbs great coverage skills to go along with great speed he intercepted four passes and broke up 14 during his senior year at
Julius Chambers High School Quinton Clark from georia Dublin Georgia becomes the 11th member of the signing class he committed back in June and maintained his commitment he’s a three- star recruit out of Georgia like I said protects projects to play inside linebacker for the hooers on the
Defensive side um it’s the these are all signed that have come in we’re still at 738 uh Evan Lawrence made sure he got his in from Danville Indiana he’s a HomeTown guy uh he is a 6 foot7 250 pound offensive tackle there’s an Indiana pulling in a home
State offensive lineman that I talked about someone that they can work with and build on he is the first instate recruit to commit to Indiana in the 20 24 class he was rather and was the second offensive lineman at 7:40 the lit the uh letter of intent Loi rather from
Alberto Mendoza came in as he announced his commitment nine days ago for Indiana The Three Star Quarterback originally committed to James Madison Kurt cetti uh took over to Indiana and of course he flipped his commitment during his senior year at Florida’s Mendoza or Florida was oh Columbus High School he threw for
Nearly 2,000 yards 22 touchdowns he added 319 yards on the ground and 46 rushing attempts so uh he’s somewhat he’s not uh a runner as much as a thrower but uh just another great get Indiana picks up from Speedway Indiana a big 6 foot5 270 pound offensive tackle
And adola aani he was the third offensive lineman to join the hooers class when he committed back in June so Indiana picking up more lineman along the way Mar o landina is from imas Pennsylvania another former James Madison commit he decided to follow cetti from Harrisburg to Bloomington he
Decommitted from James Madison on the 4th picked up an offer from Indiana on that very same day so you will be seeing him in Indiana as well he was named the eastern Pennsylvania conference defensive MVP and was named to the All Conference first team at the defensive
End position so there’s an edge rusher for you Charlie Becker a 6′ three 200 pound from Pounder from Nashville Tennessee went to Father Ryan school he committed Indiana as the 10th member of the 24 class back in late June as well he’s a three-star wide receiver out of
Nashville long and athletic pass catcher a 6 foot three frame something Indiana didn’t have a lot of last year then they got injuries uh then another Big Time pickup was jaha Boyd committing to Indiana he’s a a two-way star at Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia Pennsylvania but Boyd had
Initially pledged his commitment to James Madison of course uh however the highest rated recruit in James Madison history decommitted from The Dukes to follow Kurt Signet to Bloomington so that’s a that’s why I said earlier said man you got to feel sorry for them not only they lose their coach but they lost
A ton of uh uh pledges and players uh he’s a 5 foot1 170 pounder named Philadelphia Catholic League MVP in 2023 and was a member of the first of the PCL first team offensive and defensive teams this past season so being recruited as a two-way player by the way uh very
Important to keep in mind to see does he play both ways uh William depage also got his Li in 6’6 225 pound uh wide out uh from Georgia picked up an offer from Indiana he was in Indiana or Bloomington about a week ago and he committed out of
Molen Illinois he’s an edge rusher intimidating Force Indiana looking to bolster that defensive line again like I said uh Mitch vertigan 6 foot5 270 pound offensive tackle from Kakuna Wisconsin so anytime you get a an offensive lineman out of Wisconsin it’s usually a good one but uh there’s
Tons more yet that I haven’t even gotten to and you can go to the hoo.com looks like Austin leadfield a six foot sixer 265 pound offensive tackle from Wisconsin there’s another one Indiana getting some offensive players out of T that’s that Bob bad connection right there exactly uh came in from uh
Wisconsin and and getting those that’s that’s just huge that’s just everything is going right in Indiana’s Direction up on the football side of things man I’ve got to thank everybody uh of course big thanks to Dylan sin for joining us today as always from the fortwayne Journal

“If a win is a win” then that loss against Kansas is not a “moral victory”.
