What are the great ball Strikers of this world have in common whether it be Sergio Garcia Fred Couples Tiger Woods mck valo great ball Strikers that take divot create compression and invariably it just sounds a little bit different those great golfers have made the main stay of their game

By hitting good good shots Fairways and greens those values of hitting Fairways hitting greens or what allows them to play golf for a generation on tour without struggling up on the screen as usual the attack angle club path face angle and face to path these are the ingredients

That you if you are a regular to my Channel or a new subscriber and do consider subscribing while you’re here that you need to become very intimate with when you’re practicing and playing if you have a chance to use trackman and I believe that if you haven’t used

Trackman before it’s because you’re a little bit scared about all of the data points that it offers so if you can isolate your understanding to these four boxes I believe that trackman will become your friend when you get in front of it so the first thing

That every golfer is looking for is some form of divot when we take a divot that’s where we start to reduce the dynamic Loft in the golf shop for most golfers out there when you look at the angle of attack on the left hand side there at 6.9 down compared to a

Golfer that has an angle of attack that’s more like zero or one down we tend to see a much higher ball flight so when I strike the golf ball or you strike the golf ball and your angle of attack looks more like this you get far less ball compression you have far more

Opportunity to hit it fat or thin which creates the wrong strike point on the club face which will affect your yardage and there are very different ways of taking a divot we can take a divot hitting the club head on the floor without having any angle of attack and you can

Hear on that shot there I definitely hit the ground my angle of attack though was up at 2 again I hit the ground again you heard the divot and this is the the problem with practicing on maps you heard the divot but yet my angle of attack was hitting up at

4.8 now all of a sudden you’re going to hit the uh you’re going to make a down strike at 345 but all of a sudden it sounded very clean it sounded very thin but I hit down at 6.2 so the the first ingredient that you need to understand is is the height in

Which your golf swing is at so if you can imagine a circle around me whether that Circle sits above the ground or whether that Circle sits below the ground will ultimately dictate whether you’re taking a divot or not and we can create an angle of attack that’s

Down which would create be created by sharling that would mean that we we wouldn’t hit the ground we wouldn’t take a divot so when you think of the great ball Strikers in this game they have down strike but they have a high bottom of circle so that when they’re taking a

Divot it’s a thin one when they’re creating down strike at 3° they’re finding the right point on the club face so what I want you to do is to make your angle of attack more down and the way we’re going to get you to feel that is by feeling the club head

Accelerate should I say the handle accelerate we’re going to make the handle accelerate so the handle accelerate so we’re going to get past the go ball before the head and you’re just going to set yourself up to the ball and get the handle to accelerate

Past the golf ball and then what I want you to do is hit the ground after the ball and what you’ll feel is a handle accelerated a club head unloading and you’ll feel a skimming of the ground and that skimming of the ground is exactly what you want to feel

When you’re hitting the golf ball with a decent angle of attack so you can see I hit down at 3.8 but I made such a light contact with the ground compared to the understanding that I need to make a big divot as I showed you at the

Start I can make a big divot with a light angle of attack a heavy angle of attack and even an angle of attack that’s up you wouldn’t have got away with that so much on grass but you will do on a mat and the lon share of you out

There are practicing on a mat so that’s number one make that little practice and rehearsal and be aware of how the contact with the ground and your angle of attack will create the right strike on the face number two good golfers strike the middle of the

Face if you you’re tired of paying too much for premium leather golf gloves I can’t encourage you enough to go over and check out the guys at GX golf gloves.com these gloves are trusted by Elite amateurs and tour players alike and I promise you when you try one of

These golf gloves on the quality of them will surpass your expectation and the price point that these are pitched at so please go across GX golf clubs enter in good coaching to receive 10% on your next order and I think you’re going to be in a really great place with your

Golf gloves moving forward the impact on the face is the energy now I know that sounds a little bit silly well of course do that I I get that but let me ask you this when you go down the range and you hit golf balls how much of the time do

You spend actually working on contact how much of the time could you tell me whether you were going to hit it out the toe whether you were going to hit it out the hill or whether you were going to hit it at the middle of the face being able to control that strike

Point is absolutely crucial in your ability to play the game to a consistent level because what happens the more the golf ball goes offline the more you will try to wrestle the golf club in order to forget the strike you’ll forget the strike you’ll just try to get the golf

Ball going straight so when we have someone that is a hooker of a golf ball someone that has a ball that t tends to disappear off to the left we will invariably see a golfer trying to push the path out to the right and by pushing

The path out to the right it is offsetting the hook so those of you out there that are hookers of the golf ball you will find that your contact tends to start to come out the hill because you’re trying to offset the direction of the golf ball because if I

Now try to forget the hook but find the middle of the face I would tend to hit the ball even further left so to get the good strike I would need to remedy the hook but I ask you this if you went down the range and you just simply worked on

Strike you might find that the freedom that you’ve suddenly relinquished would all of a sudden give you the opportunity to start to see the bull flight for what it truly is and remedy the bull flight before you try to fix your shank and vice versa for someone that has a

Slice because you’re trying to pull the path to the left invariably we can see the golf ball come off the toe of the golf club because you’re trying to move the path to the left now it’s not hard and fast that rule but if you’re going down the range

And you’ve got yourself some way of measuring the strike on the face dactar and foot spray or a face plate of some kind even masking tape across the face is good enough cuz it will have an indent it allows you to then start to focus on where you want to strike the

Golf ball on the club face which will give you that good contact and invariably when you strike it out the middle of the face you invariably see much sweeter shots you certainly feel sweeter shots and you certainly tend to see them straighter so the impact factor of the

Attack angle and the ball striking are the two ingredients that really start to make up a great ball Striker the great ball Strikers of this world whether the ball Fades or whether the ball draws isn’t a consequence and the third factor that the best golfers in the world have is grip

Pressure Harvey benck talked about how Davis Love through strike made his grip feel lighter and that’s something that I’ve applied to my game from the the day I read those humble words from the great Harvey penck down at strike I’m trying to make the golf club feel like it’s going to come

Out of my hands so at the pull phase and at strike those two points are when I’m trying to make your my grip pressure go down go down to a point where it’s almost tentatively coming out of my hand now everybody’s going to have a different amount of grip pressure but if

You could make your grip pressure lighter at strike I believe you might have a chance to improve your ball striking but also make your golf shots more consistent I think you’ll fine that’s good coaching thanks for being here I’ll see you next time

  1. Marry Christmas Stuart. Best Coach and resurrector of golf. You content is Amazing brother!! You’ve given me Tons of knowledge!! Can’t wait to train with you!! 👏🏾👏🏾💪🏾

  2. Stuart my dear friend, you’ve given me the one gift I hoped for this year. I’ve got no more early extension and I have a path to playing good golf again after so many years of frustration. A very Merry Christmas to you, your family and the Precision Golf family. Gonna sneak in some practice before the family arrives. Take care my friend. NWH

  3. Many thanks Stuart for all your ‘good coaching’ this last year. Your explanation of the golf swing and its various components in connection with the Trackman data is exceptional. You have transformed my understanding of golf. Have a great Christmas

  4. Practicing on a mat is much more forgiving. It takes away the precision of ball/club/turf interaction that you must have on grass. I find I can hit slightly behind the ball on a mat and still feel pretty good contact and see good ball flight. Good for the ego but not so good for the golf game when you take it to the course. Stuart, as others have said, thanks for the great instruction and insights into what makes for a great golf swing. I will be working on contact, grip pressure and low point control. Have a wonderful Christmas.

  5. Can I pile on too? Some truly great content and thought provoking ideas this year…… many thanks Stu
Enjoy your downtime….looking forward to what you’ve got for 2024 👍

  6. ……thanks Stu….. I really like the idea almost letting go of the club thru impact. Can we assume the idea of applying that results in an almost automatic release of the club?……⛳🍺🎅

  7. Stuart, another excellent explanation and lesson. I never thought about or tried t o reduce my grip pressure at strike. Will give it a try. Also, did you change your YT channel name? If so, I missed when you did so and why? Happy holidays, my friend. Looking forward to your 2024 videos. Cheers.

  8. Solid video complementing you prior "LAG" video. Spot on commentary "Ball Strike" insights regarding practise mats Vs turf. Thank-You.

  9. Merry Christmas, Stuart! I know you don't show this data point, but I'm curious if your swing direction is negative with the irons? I know I hit it best when my swing direction is a little left. Thanks!

  10. Hey Stu,
I’ve continued to implement your concepts mostly with success.
Been taking video of myself lately, and one thing I’m noticing… even on swings with a good looking takeaway and emphasis on left hand pressure in the handle… is that my arms still like to lift too much / too vertically on the remainder of my backswing. I’ve paused many of your swings from different videos and my left arm at top of backswing is definitely steeper and more lifted than yours (granted I’m not sure what camera angle you’re using).

All this to say… would the topic of arm lift be relevant enough for you to use as a future video?
Or is it a symptom that’s tangled in too many other elements?
