Hello everyone and welcome back to the 2023 disc golf Masters Tour finale at North Cove presented by Inova and generated by grit discs we are bringing you the back nine here from Mary North Carolina we are at the Gorge one of the three amazing courses on this property here in Maran North

Carolina Ace R Productions once again bringing you this coverage I am Felix of Ace Run Productions and let’s take a look at our front nine leaderboard to see what’s transpired so far see Robert Ryan right now currently two down through 11 holes is Johnny McCrae now in

Second place after a fiery hot start of 5 down through five but some hiccups along the way has brought them back down to even let’s see how he responds here as we kick things off on whole 10 this gorgeous Par 3 503 ft with multiple elevation changes you’re teeing off from

An elevated te position down into this Valley here the hole then is going to subtly Drift from left to right and have a second elevation change it’s going to move up this hill here and there you’ll see the pin tucked away inside of this tree line a very difficult pin access

For the birdie this is a bonus bonus bonus bonus birdie if you can get one very difficult to get starting things off on the T here is Todd roel as he is drifting this one right to the meat of the Fairway pretty common play here no need to take any

Extra Strokes here if you can chop this one up for the three you are fine in doing so Jason chapen getting this one turned over and needs to fight out out of that wood line and does so at the very end and puts him in line there have Chris Garcia also pushing

That right hand side look at that wind drop we are starting to get some wind here on the back half of this course the front half we didn’t have a lot of wind but we started to see it kind of kicking up right around ho seven and is

Definitely starting to become more of a factor as Johnny going right at the corner trying to cut some distance off and settles and he’ll have a little touch Heiser approach there Todd going with the turnover up the hill and gets an unfortunate first kick and maybe a helpful second kick

There his hands on the head I feel you after a good drive there you were hoping for a better result on the second shot Chris floating up the Putter and he’s put himself well inside of his putting range see what Jason’s got here little jump approach nicely executed there

Johnny looked like he was giv that a bit of a bid is Jenny Jennifer in the background there telling that one to sit had to break out the mama voice good putt there for Todd still gets the par didn’t let that kick phas him very nicely

Done and again this is a hole that a three is quite all right this is not one that’s getting picked up for birdie very often and it’s looking like we’re going to see a series of pars here on ho 10 and that’s exactly what we get there

So all par is here to get things going on the back half of this round one Coverage We move on to Hole 11 this par three coming in at 375 ft again unique elevation changes here as you’re teeing off from an elevated team position you’ve got across this entire Valley here and then you get to the actual pin which is similar to whole six kind of nestled

On top of a turtle back hill with rollway potential everywhere you can see 08 only the second hardest hole on this course is a little surprising cuz i’ I’ve seen lots of rollways happen here that this is going to float over to the left hand side Down By the Hillside

Pretty common shot here you’re going to see a lot of disc that are going to Drift Off to the left that one gets tipped and is going to move on over to the left even more the as you can see the flag there moving also from right to left

Does not help your disc to stay on line it’s going to kind of guide it more and push it down to the left left hand side this so a stable flight but then gets dropped at the end and is about a third of the way up the hillside on the right hand

Side Johnny taking a more direct line and that Nestles just to the left there of the PIN nicely done there for Johnny that one gets up to the top of the hill on the approach we’ll have Jason here looking to do the same again with that jump putt

Approach and that’s going to put him close to the Target there you really want to get this as close as you can you don’t want to have to worry about any rollways here on your par putt Johnny wants no part of that just lays it up smartly

And looks like we’re going to get the par parade started one more time with Todd knocking his home first Jason looking to do the same and I would anticipate nothing but more of the same coming yep from Chris and Johnny there so a parar beginning

Here to the first two holes of the back nine everything’s staying the same as we get ready to move on to whole 12 we’ll pick that action right back up after this commercial Break [Applause] Again huge shout out to the disc golf Masters T C mcor check them out dgmt us the 2024 schedule is out you definitely want to jump in on some of these events you definitely want to jump in on this hole too this is a signature one whole

12 par five 9986 ft big elevation drop from the t- boox down into this Valley left hand side car path is out of bounds here’s also out of bounds as you get closer on the right hand side of this green here as well really controlling your t-shot there’s a hazard bunker on

The left hand side that you want to avoid but it just kind of ends up being right at the end of where most drives land so let’s see how these guys navigate it with a little bit of wind kicking up here Todd putting a move move on this

One on the right hand side and gets past that Fairway Hazard bunker there he has found the middle of the Fairway Jason opting for the right hand side Heiser with a little bit of stand up there drifting its way back over to the left hand side and unfortunately that does find

The left side Hazard so he will have to play his second shot from inside of that bunker Chris going wide Heiser with that stable blue disc he’s been throwing a lot this round and that one is going to be safe of the hazard and in the Fairway so all four players opting for

The right hand side Gap there is that leftand side if you want to kind of flip something over but the wind just doesn’t quite match up to that shot right now so all of them taking the Hiser line you see how close Jason was to actually clearing that Hazard but

Unfortunately he is in it so this is going to be his third here punching it to the right side and that is safe I mean take a look at these mountains in the background these trees absolutely gorgeous property out here in marry North Carolina if you get a chance to come out

Here and visit North Cove I can’t recommend it enough that one is going to drift out of bounds has got the skip there and is on that bridge which is out of bounds cart path left side is is O Johnny McCrae middle middle that’s how you want to play

It just dissecting this whole shot by shot Todd pushing the right hand side again with some Heiser and finishing right back over right in the middle of the Fairway beautifully done Jason with his full fourth get set up a little high but it looks to be a neutral to understable disc but finishes

Left side and is gone obb this is going right at the pin probably about 18t or so maybe maybe even a little shorter going to be left there Chris after going out of bounds takes his meter in approach roaches with a Hiser right towards the pin and that’s going to roll

There’s that out of bounds there and that has gone out of bounds on the right hand side you see the white line there marking the out of bounds unfortunately Chris has found it Johnny floats to putter up Johnny breaking down the physics and science of disl there Jason after taking his meter in

From the out of bounds has this putt coming up and that one settles next to the basket Chris here with a good putt to save the bogey after that unfortunate series there of out of bounds oh and Todd splashes out and there’s going to be that roll there is OB back there as

Well but it looks like he has stayed safe and inbounds Johnny for the birdie yes sir and that’s the first birdie for Johnny here on the back nine as he runs to get his disc and get out of there Todd with a tricky putt from inside that tree line and he’s able to

Send it on home for the bogey first couple of BL ises we’ve seen on the back nine here for these guys and Jason is going to tap in his double bogey there so Johnny making up some Strokes there on the entire card gaining at least two strokes on everyone on that

Card on that Hole ho 13 a tight one this one par three 299 ft this V tree here you don’t have to go through it but there’s really no other way to get there you want to shoot something straight here with a little bit of finish these guys are going to be throwing mid-rangers maybe

Fairway drivers as this this as this uh hole does go slightly uphill then finishes over to the left hand side here on this rock wall beautifully framed up here just a picturesque beautiful disc golf hole there’s car path on the right hand side but the car path on the right hand

Side for this one does not play as out of bounds Johnny mcra sizzles that one right on through the Gap and he’s put himself at about 25 ft with a look for the birdie two for two through the gab here put your hands up and celebrate Step One is

Done Chris here looking to make it three for three and he he is safe he clips that one on the left hand side but he is not out of bounds that takes a nasty kick to the right side but he looks like he is still inside the

Tree line we’ll see what what options he’s going to have there Chris throwing the Hiser and beautifully done he’s not going to know how close he is until he actually gets up there and a forehand roller and again that one is safe as the car path is not out of bounds on this

Hole so Jason floats his third shot to about 25 28 ft oh nice little floaty half bid there for Todd settles nicely and Jason has this left for the four and that’s going to be low I’m sorry that was for par and Johnny starting to pick things up here backto back

Birdies if you didn’t watch the front half you A lot happened a lot happened Johnny McCrae got off to a sizzling start and then as the course giveth the course took it away uh just a roller coaster of a round so far and unfortunately there the Double for Jason oh that was the bogey putt that he missed that’s right sorry I lost track of Strokes there hole 14 Par 3 45 ft this is a beauty of a hole your teain off from an elevated Tad there down towards the Straits here you’ve got these trees kind of

Lining up what is essentially uh the left and right of the Fairway no out of bounds on the left and right there is a hazard bunker on the left hand side once you get past this chopped up down log here there is danger behind the baskets

There is water which is out of bounds behind on the end of this basket here Johnny McCrae up first after birdie birdie throwing his anchor and this one finishing just short of the hazard dropping anchor before going into the beach Todd lining up a beautiful floaty shot here as well fing left near

Johnny’s and his unfortunately does not check up and he will be in that Hazard bunker there playing with a stroke penalty from his lie Chris Garcia with the rabbit off the tea here putter looking to just softly Nestle and he is breaking this hole down for the par Jason looking to bounce

Back their previous hole this one’s going to be early left will it avoid that Hazard it will we’ll see if those low limbs there are going to present a challenge to get to the basket from where he is as he’s going to be up first here just bends around them nicely nice

Touch there settling up well inside the circle Chris with the little Heiser approach you see how close Johnny was to actually going into that Hazard he’ll go ahead and lay up as well no sense turning this into a bigger number than it needs to be and Chris

Stuck to the game plan there he’s going to take three here on whole 14 going to be a par as well for Jason Johnny will Turbo in I don’t know what you call that style of putt but it’s a it’s a par nonetheless on the score on the score card and the

Bogey there for Todd As we head towards hole [Applause] 15 Thank you to everybody for checking out this action make sure to like And subscribe if you haven’t done so yet as we’re trying to close out the year with 30,000 subscribers here we are whole 15 par 4 444 ft that’s a lot of fours this car path here that you’re seeing on the

Left hand side plays out of bounds you’re teeing off winding the line somewhere here and then if you have to cross this cart path here and get onto this is for your second shot if you do not make it on then you go to a drop zone there

Are multiple Drop Zones on this hole depending on where uh you do or don’t go in bounds Johnny McRae opting for the turnover there with the the warship once again put himself in nice position there to approach for his second shot Chris going with the forehand like that it helps kind of

Bring the disc naturally over back in bounds just like that using the cart path for a little bit of extra skip Jason also going with the backand here just needs to hold that line and that is drifted out of bounds just got stable Todd putting a nice move on this

One and that’s going to be near where Johnny’s Drive ended up so Jason will proceed to this first drop zone here if you don’t make the island there’s a second Drop Zone on the island but he has cleared the rocks and he will be safely on the

Island see Johnny lined up nicely here with The Gap throwing that shield and that settles on there out Stop beautifully done there three very solid approaches Chris with the forehand approach and they shorted that one a bit that terrible money he’s going to proceed to the Drop Zone on the island there and unfortunately that is going to result in an extra stroke Jason with a very nice putt there

Saves the par even though he went out of bounds on the drive very nicely done good Scramble game there Johnny for the birdie yes sir connects once again Johnny mcgr with three birdie so far on this back nine he’s three down overall for the round birdie there for Todd roel as well

Brings him to five over on the day Chris with the bogy unfortunately have to shorting the Upshot we move on to Hole 16 she’s a be you can say that about just about any hole on this property hole 16 par three 378 ft you see the out of bounds string there on the right hand side this hole pretty unique as you’re going to see

Here as we approach this basket here really the creek line itself is what is in bounds as you get past this bridge here you’re going to see the green open up here but there is out of bounds far and to the right on this screen here so controlling the speed of your shot

Coming in here very Paramount there’s a Drop Zone on the bridge if you do not and safely inbounds off your drive Johnny floating this one nicely and he has put himself about 15 ft or so with a birdie look into an elevated basket this may be a little early

Left and there is OB over there if you go too far left and he has found the out- of bounds left so he will be proceeding to the Drop Zone very straight flight on this disc here and that is beautifully done by Jason putting himself inside the circle it

Looks Chris going with a big wide right hand Heiser following falling back quickly and checks up nicely inside the circle so this is the Drop Zone here on the bridge okay that settles up nicely there Johnny mcra with this left for his birdie oh and that one a little

Low it’s a weird thing to say but it is low on this very high basket oh and that one spills out left side there’s always the argument to had about to be had about the baskets not being designed to catch at an upward angle like that and whether or

Not these elevated baskets are a good thing or we understand wanting to create more of a challenge uh in putting and in the game itself but sometimes you see things like this sometimes discs just don’t catch we’ve seen even discs that are going in Center Center that don’t seem to catch

On elevated baskets but it’s definitely becoming more of the norm Hole 17 Par 3 445 ft you’ve got the creek on the leth hand side playing as out of bounds throughout the entirety of the hole there’s also out of bounds on the right hand side marked by String Line really pretty tight Fairway overall you’ve got this cart path here which

Snakes alongside the end of the hole here which also plays as out of bounds tricky one one that going for can definitely either gain you multiple Strokes on the field or it can cost you multiple Strokes Chris playing for the three here putting his shot right in the middle of the

Fairway Johnny with a shield so that tells you he is not trying to get there for the birdie this one a wide Edge disc and that one’s going to bounce and go out of bounds to the left hand side Todd playing the right hand side and he is in bounds

There that needs to hurry and unfortunately that is Hazard I’m sorry not out of bounds it’s Hazard on that right hand side Johnny with a little more angle is safely in bounds see our friend Keith down there trying to get the disc back for Jason

And this one is a little high and a lot of angle this needs to check up and unfortunately that is going to be out of bounds again so two for two on the o be here Chris going wide looking to get some Skip and that has gone into the hazard as

Well oh man just touch low and rolls another four or five feet after it hits the ground Todd here from the hazard ni makes the putt limits the damage to a single bogey very nicely done there especially late in the round those things can snowball and before you know

It you’ve turned a a single bogey into a double or triple with a lack of focus or a laps in Focus I should say but not the case there Jason going to card the triple here on whole 17 and Johnny for the birdie excuse me for the

Par I think it’s a par four but it’s a par three having a good time with his buddy Chris there who will tap in the double bogey whole 17 showing its teeth a lot of big numbers there got one hole left to close out this opening round of the disc golf Masters Tour Finale all right welc welcome back whole 18 this par five is our finisher 818 ft out of bounds Creek there off the te want to get your disc to finish over on the left hand side here then you see this straight approach here there’s a lot of difficulty to this

Hole here as the pin as you see we approach here on this peninsula you need to land safely on the peninsula in order to advance if not you rethrow from your last spot out of bounds very difficult closing hole here see how these guys approach it Johnny

McCrae up first opting for the left hand side turnover and needs it to sit and does that car path on the left hand side can come into play there but that one stays safe of it sometimes we’ll see some hisers around the right side like this just

Needs to be high enough and swing on back in time to avoid the out of bounds and that one appears to be safe Chris opting for the left side and this looks fantastic right in the meat of the Fairway the entire time very nice shot there for Chris on whole

18 Jason also going up the left hand side a little bit higher needs to push past that last set of trees looks like he’s going to be just short and inside of it but looks like he does have a gap here to aim for Yanks that one over to the

Right but does finish back in bounds Todd here a bit of a uphill run up it’s going to go with the Hiser gets clipped early but stays in bounds he’ll have some decisions to make from there see what Chris is lining up here taking the left side the entire way

Here we’ll see if he’s going to be obstructed he’s going to have a lot of trees to deal with Johnny blasting one up to the second Landing Zone there and flirting without of bounds the entire way but he is safe with that St Pro

He’ll have a look there for a chip up to give himself a birdie opportunity Jason trying to pump this onto the peninsula but that has gone out of bounds so he will advance to the last spot inbounds on this side of the peninsula Todd opting for the leftand side

Layup he’s just behind Johnny’s blue dis there Jason last point in bounds this looks fantastic right over the top top of the basket there and has gone Obi long you see the white line there by that last Boulder there is out of bounds long so he now

Goes moves up another 10 15 ft or so to his last spot in bounds and will once again be trying to get onto this peninsula oh and that’s drifting right gets a tree and that has gone out of bounds once again he moves up another couple of

Feet this one needs to check and it does just a difficult ho 18 what’s been I’m sure a frustrating round uh for Jason today Chris there opting for the chip up to give himself better positioning on the next shot and that pays off for him there as he is safely on the

Peninsula there many times I’ve said Peninsula on this hole oh and that jump putt is going to be shorten out of bounds for Todd there Johnny McCrae here this is I believe his third shot and he is in the bullseye there Todd once again getting it across this time he does stay in

Bounds and now the Journey Begins across the riverbed Chris able to knock home the par on 18 which is a great score to take on this closing hole that is getting Strokes on a lot of folks double bogey there for Todd unfortunately after going out of bounds on the jump approach Johnny

McCrae is going to tap in the birdie here on hole 18 and unfortunately a quint tupple bogey there to close out this round for Jason you see Johnny mcgrae with a commanding lead on this card here we’ll take a look at the overall leaderboard in a sec to see where he

Stands and at the close he is indeed in first place three Strokes over Robert Ryan they will be battling over at the boulders course for round two then back here for round three and we’ll finish on the boulder course for the finale the final round big thank you to
