Aloha Kakak good morning to you all final day of the 20123 E classic presented by Hoy Pacific Health alongside carteri Peter Greenhill it’s Cav scanland coming to you from the father BR Athletic Complex on the campus of Yani school first of eight on our final day here the mid-pacific owls and the Kaimuki
Bulldogs squaring off both teams getting themselves together here for 9:00 game I think it’s to to capture the 9:00 game I guess energy and uh mid pack kid mid Pacific excuse me uh takes off his warm-up Jersey uh uh top his jerseyy on backwards all his buddies giving him
Heat about it they all have a good laugh about it and that just captures it right there right another kid didn’t have his jersey on he had to go find it I mean uh teenage boys right we’re going to go down to coach Eddie marama who’s going to give us our starting
Lineups for game one of our final day of the ilh let’s me to start lineups for the visitors from the KY bulldogs at guard senior number one Jon and guard number two Jeremiah white at guard five r at the other guard number 10 V van and at Center number 55 AR [Applause] [Applause]
SE now let’s meet the owls from p pafic [Applause] ardre five the [Applause] 12 at for 15 20 Lo c number 24 [Applause] there you have it your starting five for both the Bulldogs and the owls Ki out of the oia Oahu inter Scholastic Association and the mid
Pacific owls out of the inter Scholastic inter Scholastic League of Honolulu so enter Association battle here schools are only separated by a mile or two but rarely run into each other You’ in the case of yan exactly yeah right across the street across the street exactly unlike other schools like puno and
Marino who are literally across the street from each other and they are in the same league so wonder if they still bust to their games I hope not coach get M so you guys got to walk home like all right no big deal impack off of the man Harmon seal
Tough left hand take into the seal 66 body of Logan Mason that’s going to be an interesting match up as seal will try and negate Mason’s length and height with his size and girth seal has excellent hands as well Cher clean three gets it left wing he
Had a heck of a game last game it’s going to be important for the stars to stay out of foul trouble today fam left wing Corner they starting on fire very unusual for 9:00 a.m. not a wi y now it’s 53 early for the Bulldogs Bulldogs in straight
Man matching up here match up two three apies tennis shoot Mason contested jumper doesn’t get anything and he’ll let it go out of bounds Bulldogs will take over rare to see Mason miss that by that much he’s a heck of a player has all the Tools Lupa seasoned veteran was huge for the Bulldogs yesterday in their win as Jeremiah white got into foul trouble early most of the game is on the bench seal hard drive no call that’ll go off of kamuki and mid Pacific will gain possession there letting him play kind
Of like it actually look like what you called yesterday a physics experiment it’s physics right that’s what it is Cher he was feeling it let’s another one go and there it is that’s two in a row for Cher don’t get too close to him you’ll get singed right now
That’s a scout on Cher you know you get him a clean look he gets comfortable and the same goes to fam who misses from the the free throw [Applause] line corner it’s Riley meura that time Cher unselfishly draws his attention and kicks it to Mira so nice team play there
Still letting them play tough shot Jeremiah white you know he scored 22 yesterday even though he spent a lot of the game in foul trouble so that says a lot about what he’s capable strong physical young man can absorb the contact from mura ye excuse me and finish up ahead to Fritz P
Uncontested very unselfish he wants the assists more than the points does Fritz p as he’ll get Jason Lupa for his point to the first points of the game Thea played great yesterday Jacob B from the corner great kick there by jerck E and it’s 99 we’re going to
Need to check the size of these rims the circumference cardi what is the over here I don’t know what the over under is but somebody’s looking good here this is the highest we’ve seen a post player in the tournament from what I can recall he’s at the top of the key seal really
Opening things up oh my everything falling is the bank open this early it is Friday that’s true 119 Bulldogs we’re not even 3 minutes into this thing ye Baseline cutting base through the Baseline gets it to Jacob B he’ll get another one take a b Jacob B that’s two in a
Row nothing but net literally very nice release on that that jump shot oh snatch back to lead Jeremiah white says I’ll see I’ll see that he’s been watching Ryan Hirata videos early shot clock probably Edis shot there by white just a little just a little ego check there right see if he
Can play that game too coach espinda imploring his fellas to put a little more ball pressure on the owls Cher elbow ye gets a clean look on the Twan game can’t get it to go here comes fam so far it doesn’t look as though uh kuki is all that interested in running
Yet yeah seems they’re content to slow it down I mean they do have some size they do have some size advantages there which unfortunately goes against white officials thought white was forcing the issue a little bit there but we got to be you know really thankful to the officials the job they
Do very nice dish to Mason there the officials did nothing but heat but boy it’s a tough job at this sport hard to find anybody who wants to do it SE had a 15 on the clock lb tough contested turn around can’t go here comes Mason they’re sitting on a three-point
Lead two and a half left in the first quarter Cher he’s already got two that one’s off the back Jacob also has two here comes he cutting ill advised yeah he had the shot Lupa easy finish here but can’t actually easily finish and he’ll blow the
Layup and his teammate frit B will pick up his first foul of the game looks like we’re regressing to the mean a little bit here we’ve actually had some Mis shots well you know you want e to perhaps jump stop in the paint there give himself more options and more
Time now the Bulldogs have switched to a man coach spin wanted to Ratched up the pressure here on ball Charizard Mason deep in the paint got him on his back and lupico was in trouble early nice look by chizer they found the mismatch Mason did exactly the right
Thing took advantage of it good footwork that’s often where you you lose the battle early there is Lupa lost that battle prior to Mas catching it allowing him to pin him deep the 66 frame easy target for postentry so he’ll try to clean up his on one and
Does quick five points for Logan Mason he’s going to be one of the stars of the ilh this year certainly needed in the league where there’s a lot of length this year frit ptiu he’s got six threes in the last two games so need to get him going for the
Bulldogs you know if someone can emerge as a as a third option consistently for Mid pack they’re going to be tough because they have both Mason and Cher ye’s been really strong for them a good all-around player yeah kind of a hybrid in mea so they do have some options yeah
White takes his time here assesses Lupa sees an angle pull up in the lane gets it tough shot good job putting on the brakes and going straight up it’s not bad D is better offense on that shot and M Bulldogs cut the lead to four got about a minute left here in
Quarter one easy post entry too easy and mura just operates on white who already has a foul excellent [Applause] move too easy of an entry pass there for the owls and Mira decisive Agreed white eyeso on on y tries to face him up got 12 to shoot fam doesn’t need any more than that off the mark and here comes y 25 left in the quarter tries to slide it into Ryan man can’t get a hold of it so Bulldogs have 22.6 left
We’ll see if they can take advantage of this and hold for the last shot look as though man took his eye off the ball right at the last second didn’t complete the catch and was headed to the basket knew what he wanted to do probably would have done it too if he
Had held on to the ball Tyson norin in the game for the ows here pressuring Lupa with nine to shoota high up Top Kicks the fam he’ll let it go that’ll be short man with two seconds and the ow will be content to just let this fizzle out as the quarter comes to
An end here the first game of the elani classic 1913 mid Pacific owls over the Bulldogs of Kim key here’s the the dream never stop doing what you love the choices you make now can keep the dream alive tomorrow so you can live your life your way we’re here to help with a
Personalized approach to a healthier you Hawaii Pacific health just telling my colleague here Peter G got to be careful you so how names change and you grow up with so many ways of saying things we’re so used to saying mid pack to short mid Pacific but want to make sure you
Know Short change their name right very good reminder I remember when I was young thata would be often referred to as cam Kam which I think the the next generation is that’s sort of washed out so that’s a refreshing KS is a little bit easier now but I think part of the
Problem was in the programs and in the schedules instead of KS it would list Kam for kameha so I think often times people just go to that short Change Nagata up the guts nobody there easy layup Ry nagata’s on the board and opens up second quarter quickly here for the
Owls up 2113 the got read that situation extremely well nice balanced shot there by Jeremiah white from Lupa he’s got many different shots in his repertoire and moves wasn’t an easy shot either he double double pumped it and had a guard behind them so hard to make it from the
Strange distances of 9 10 ft Shyer cutting to the hoop can’t finish white pushes he’s going to pull a long two and get it playing with tremendous confidence right now absolutely carrying over from his huge second half yesterday get 18 in the second half for the Bulldogs in their win Mason
Baseline will not get the shot but will get a block call so it’ll be out of bounds here for the owls falls on Jason Lupa his second one of those bang bang plays just Lupa just there just a second late most of the banging was on him he took he took some
Punishment Alo inbound Cher shakes loose in the corner somehow doesn’t get it Tyson no in flying in for the offensive board he’ll get two freans impressive rebound by no not only can he get up but he really timed it read the rebound off the rim almost like Dennis
Robin didn’t rush his shot either sometimes you get in there and panic and you throw it up when you’re in a great position to keep at the very least draw a foul and nor did a nice job there of maintaining patience and balance so he gets his
First yeah whatever he scores from the line he earned it Well Done Tyson no gives the owls a six-point lead here early in the seconds Jason Lupa sitting on two fouls here riding AATA little little too much energy on white there and that’s kind of a case of he’s giving up quite a
Few lbs to the Rock Solid Jeremiah white so trying to compensate for that Harman seal speaking of Rock Solid yeah exactly can’t get his left hand jump hook to go fam pressuring Shyer white gives Baseline to legata the gotta turns it over normal gets it back and here comes
Lupa crosscourt pass the fam and he kind of wants that one back little surprised he didn’t go to the right wing on that one yeah he did have two other closer options kind of a case where the coach goes where you got a guy right next to
One pass away he just pass it in alas trying to make plays so he’ll take a seat he has two fouls so coach asenda will give him a second here now got the Aaron pass into the [Applause] paint That’s stolen away by Kioki Joseph just into the game for the
Bulldogs going to be Paul offensive rebound pump fakes and draws a foul on Logan Mason [Applause] right number Logan Mason pick up his first foul of the game in that case that’s a little bit of a scouting report on Mason he’s got to be a little bit smarter on
That as he has certainly the length and size and jobi is not too comfortable with the ball perhaps you give him a little space and let him commit to the shot and then challenge it instead of getting your body in there but he’ll make an adjustment there the left handed job he
Gets both of them so jobi jobi Paul he earned those also he worked really hard to draw the foul he real patient on his possession there Tri the left wing wasn’t afraid of the contact either Mason to The Cutting ye good look can’t get it here comes white and he’ll
Settle directing traffic he sees an opportunity here against Jacob B he’s thinking Mouse in the house yeah yes he is uses his body on the turnaround can’t get it here comes Mira I mean I’d rather see him take advantage of that size mismatch a little
Closer to the basket he was out on the perimeter give it up get it back yeah Bulldogs content to switch perimeter Mason just right to the hoop too long nobody on the court for K to Challenge Yi Joseph gets it poked Away by Cher and the Bulldogs will have it out of bounds 29 the clock looks as kuki could provide a little more weak side help on defense within two or three instances so far right down Main Street Nagata had one ye had one koki Joseph mishandles the
Inbounds we get Fritz ptio in a clean look Harman seal big offensive board can’t get it to go and Logan Mason will swallow up that board and get up to Bow here come the owls they’re up six with 430 left in the second jerie set in a situation Mir a clean look no
Good CU controls Lupa back in with the two fouls so he’s got to be prudent in the way he handles himself with both ends left wing in and out for Lupa as we have a jump ball on the rebound and so the Bulldogs will retain possession and also win a new shot clock
As that was one of the rare times they ran through their offensive set and used most of the shot Clock seemed they were doing that early in the first quarter when they were making a lot of shots but they got away from It fam sloppy pass to Cher he’ll accelerate and can’t finish but he will get go to the line as fam fouls pass was a bit telegraphed and also a little too far there he was a little far out to make that pass a lot of things wrong with that one
And the tournament we’ve been seeing a lot of that sort of thing where um the turnover is a result of passes that are too long teams need to shorten that up just unforced errors in general you know chatting with a lot of the coaches throughout the week it’s just you know
Some of the common themes one of them is you know lamenting just unforced errors and how often trying to keep young players focused so you can sort of minimize those which to some extent it’s you know symptom of early season good point yep timeout here for the owls as
Charer converts both and puts up puts the owls up eight we halfway through the second of game one of the 2023 elani classic presented by Hawaii Pacific Health just a look back at the route that both teams have taken to get here both teams have played three games in four days for
The Bulldogs they opened up with a lopsided loss to the Masters Academy out of Florida came back the second day and played a tough gritty match up against the Warriors of kapal Lama kameha Lost That by nine and and then yesterday the Bulldogs with a solid win over Kawaii
High which was a lot closer than the score indicates here they are trying to even up two and two for the tournament they look as though they’re definitely going to be competitive in the OA this year seal nothing fancy he gets burned for trying to get back a missed shot
But there’s no surprise about what he’s going to do using his body solid move just can’t get it to fall he picks up his second and will have a seat he’s creating good shots for himself down low just can’t quite get him to fall usually he’s shooting too hard that’s the
Problem even though he’s got real good rotation on that ball they’re just too hard clean entry pass to Mason against a smaller fris p t there’s no challenge there that’s that’s going to happen most of the time as the Bulldogs need to figure something out quick on this or
Else Mason’s going to have a field day probably need at least for someone to come over double team it’s just too much about this match maybe get somebody over the top and then at least force a more difficult lob in because he’s going to take it to him all morning
If they don’t adjust here as he is perfect from the line for the morning Gathering his eighth Point 3 minutes left in the quarter ow stretch their lead to 11 and this is danger zone time here end of the half where you could potentially let this
Thing slip into the 182 Point range so bulldog’s got to be careful here very true 15 seconds on the clock you got to be at least patient enough that they’re not trying to get it all back at once white squares up doesn’t get it hustles after it J Paul gets away with
Steps doesn’t matter y comes away with it cross score Cher Rhythm J in and out and here comes white white taking it to the hoop can’t get it jobi another offensive rebound jobi Paul needs to get out of the key does fam three short koki Joseph Jeremiah white says I’ll take
That again Fritz B with a third offensive rebound of The Possession he’ll get Jacob Bal pushing from behind so that’ll be BS first Bulldogs had some open looks there they could have made just one of those I mean that’s what they need right at this
Point hit a couple of thre get back in the game Bulldogs only going with three of Their Stars here as both coo and Lup are on the bench with two fouls so here’s fam from the top we got a jump ball here nor wisely recognizing Joseph not
Too comfortable with it yeah he also turned to face him too too soon without even have having a sense of where the defensive player was brought the ball right into his defender’s hands and lap under two minutes to go here how’s up 11 Bulldog’s now in manto
Man another clean entry pass and Mala will get tagged with the push from behind but more importantly ow are the bonus so they’ll take two free ones Mason will build on his eight points for the half yeah kaimuki’s got to figure things out defensively to uh try to deny Mason the ball
He’s having a field day now well dribbles in the first one yeah I mean there has to be a serious adjustment on getting somebody in the top side of that that’s just way too easy of an entry littleit of ball pressure on the on the passer in the in combination
Might might help as well as Mason’s perfect from the line this morning he’s 4 for four he’s sitting on 10 first half points he’ll take a excuse me Jer y will take a break minute and a half left Bulldog’s down 13 in danger of letting this slip a little further before the half
Ends Alo fouled on the pass not called so fam will just launch deep here and is short again he’s been off all morning and to his credit he has not you know um sto shooting he’s not bashful um I guess he’s got the green light from coach he shown earlier in the tournament
He can hit it that’s Tyson no getting his first foul just one of those halves for him so far but I mean he he doesn’t hesitate he’s letting it fly white looking like he’s forcing the issue a little realizing he not too many offensive choices here for the Bulldogs theying hard on
Ball white making the mistake of trying to go one on five here instead of moving the ball around and getting a cleaner look here it’s just difficult Al Loo’s out of bounds tries to save it no doing and ‘s at 51 on the clock is coach Robie
Schav offense defense here and put in daryus Scher and Jer sensing an opportunity perhaps even a two for one here for the eles you do get a sense that white is um feeling the pressure to shrink this lead trying to get it all back too quickly yeah hopefully he can recognize
That you can do that right you move the ball a little get yourself in a position again easy entry for Mason again same result and uh what’s the definition of insanity right there Peter you got to give the owls a lot of credit they see what needs to be done
They see where the advantages are and they keep exploiting them SEO has been patient with his with his post moves and Mason baits the ref into a charge call and flops on the contact so seal picks up his third smart play by Mason to send seal back to the bench really
Their only inside offensive presence yeah and uh Mason probably probably has noticed that coo always goes left first because of the left hand and you rely see him turn spin to the right shot clock off here 15 seconds left quarter Troy hiashi my classmate son Jill and Lenny Mason straight to the
Hoop too easy he is having an absolute field day hiashi almost gets it and that’ll be that the Bulldogs have let that quarter slip away from them it’s 3619 to end the first half owls up comfortably Mason’s scoring so easily he doesn’t look at winded or sweaty at all
Yeah Bulldog’s making it too easy for the owls here early on we’ll be right back after a visit from our sponsors hey Rocks come and look and neighbors are up to something probably taking out the trash no they got guys roolling all around the place maybe they’re aliens from another planet maybe
They’re getting rid of bugs and termites or something so what’s so strange or our guys don’t do that maybe we don’t have the right guys hi I’m Ian and I’m Joe and we’re pest Hawaii we have the latest termite and Pest Control technology let our guys be your guys we’re pestech Hawaii Here’s the dream never stop doing what you love the choices you make now can keep the dream alive tomorrow so you can live your life your way we’re here to help with a personalized approach to a healthier you Hawaii Pacific Health okay that’s it all right all
Right here we go well welcome back to the uh 2022 year classic presented by white Pacific Health we’re just having a little fun here with our daily uh half court contest coach Eddie marama has anyone wants to come down and win a t-shirt we’ve had we’ve had winners so
Far Ki McGee here trying to get a repeat winner getting closer okay half time is almost over we got a oh oh that was oh here we go so picking up on uh just want to make sure we follow up and get the uh all right We the tournament experience for the owls we just shared earlier the Bulldogs and their path to the final day the mid Pacific hows open the tournament with a pretty tough matchup against the formidable Oak Ridge pioneers and that ended as You’ expect they move on second
Day they turn the tables and have a solid 21-point win over the Kawaii Red Raiders on day two their third game they played Mo Lua the is in a close matchup they win that 6357 so they’re looking to go three and one here in the eand classic and kind of take a
Little bit of momentum going into the ilh season which will start up immediately after New Year’s Day and we have a [Applause] winner Bulldogs looking to even up their record and at two and two and leave with some momentum of their own as they have actually already their their Le League begins
It’s already begun for some but it begins tomorrow for most of the oia school so no rest further weary as the Bulldogs will have played five games by Sunday and played five games in a row as you watch the Bulldogs you know from a coach’s perspective get
A sense for how valuable this tournament is for being able to see as a team where are our weaknesses where are our strengths what do we need to work on in practice and how are we going to approach that what drills Etc you know who’s capable individually
Of this or that right it’s just an excellent opportunity for every team especially if you’re not concerned about a national ranking and trying to win win win good point you know yeah and it really is for coaches what are you taking away from this experience right that you mentioned
And kind of sort of maybe highlighting the positives MH uh you also addressing the areas of growth that’s why we have pre-seasons and that’s why we have these type of tournaments is you know everybody has to work out the Kinks I mean we mentioned in the past but it’s
You know we we we have to we have to uh give attention to the fact that a lot of these kids are coming off of a false sport whether be football or otherwise so you know unlike a fall sport of football for instance where you got some time you
Have summer to build into it and you you have sort of a ramping up logically and cleanly into your Season Winter Sports and spring Sports to be fair have to kind of adjust quickly and sort of uh I don’t know preseason fall Sports get the uh full Runway of whereas
The uh winter and spring Sports get the aircraft carrier takeoff version ver vertical takeoff there you go St up Atlantic little VTO but you know um the other part part of it is that you can’t say well every team faces that because it depends a lot
On which school it is schools that have small enrollment are much more susceptible to this problem than the schools that have the large enrollments not to mention the case of you know the the seasons can be significantly longer for those that Advance into postseason play you know football at least in the
Division one which I always get confused cuz it’s kind of like the second division but you know you have so these teams sitting around for 2 three weeks waiting on the other other teams to kind of shake out and in the meantime you know other teams have their preseason workouts and a lot
Of it you know touching the ball too you know the touches on the ball uh matter so anyway those schools I guess in those cases become uh classic examples of being a victim of your own success you know um also every you know every football game is significant physically when it comes to
You know how banged up you gradually get right so the longer they’re moving into the postseason the harder the recovery is as soon as they jump up into basketball now we’ve had uh a lot of insight in people sharing their experiences from a player standpoint from the coaching standpoint I’m curious
As a longtime e lineing teacher educator Mentor for you Peter what has the classic been I guess from a teacher’s perspective over the years of being on campus and interacting with the classic and having it sort of butt up against and during school I’m curious how that was for you well I I
Think um it has become such an institution and it did so pretty quickly that I think um it became just a natural part of the school year Rhythm so I didn’t see too much of an adverse effect on the students I mean because it coincides with um Christmas vacation there was
Already you already are you know dealing with the excitement that students start to feel building leading up to vacation because they enjoy the vacation so much you know and the the tournament adds an extra ingredient to that but I mean that’s just natural true and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it
Thank goodness but for it seems almost like the highlight of the year I mean you’re thinking about it all summer all fall You’re Building to it you know you’re thinking about oh where am I going to sit who am I going to go with um you know which games am I going to
See to me it’s just to me it’s like the climax of the year and it comes in the middle of the year yeah pretty cool it’s kind of I mean a lot of schools have you know Carnival like Carnival can be like that as well correct me if I’m wrong but
At least for eani it’s a little bit different cuz a little bit less academic pressure because their finals are after the break yeah that’s true which we need to address because I that baffles me as a college preparatory institution why would you have call finals after a break
But that’s that’s another discussion uh but you know there are there are some schools that do actually have finals uh during uh classic week luckily for uh some of the inter I schools be puno excuse me here but Kam and in the past you know they they they have their
Finals culminate and then they can play but for some schools the oia schools they still have finals where they have to come play a game and go back to class or you know make up so there’s a lot of for some of these teams the pressure academically can vary and that can kind
Of factor into your play you’re sitting here you got to get up early I got to get back to class I’m missing this I I got to make up a final so lot of moving Parts here for a lot of these players it’s not just a vacation where they’re
Just playing basketball all day and that’s it so you know regardless the the electricity is undeniable even the first day even before you get into the gym just walking towards that gym door you start to feel it underway here in the second half of game one Harman seal a little step
Across and gets it soft move makes an adjustment from the first half big psychological boost for the Bulldogs off the bat there smart smart move there he was throwing fast balls all first half and then little change up there yeah Mason has not seen that move or that
Approach Mason Baseline can’t finish but guess who Johnny on the spot jerck e as he’s been all tournament nice follow he does a lot of different things to help his team with the put back he’ll get on the board good allaround player good athlete K te much more patient here in
The second half as they run their stuff Peter excuse me Peter yeah moo excuse me with a jumper that’s Off the Mark jerck simple jump stop cutting Mason too easy again Logan Mason having a field there you know we were talking yesterday about um the importance of making shots
When you are being patient in your half cour court offense I mean they’ve got to be patient because there’s plenty of time well L speaking of patience it’s an impatient unnecessary three and just like that uh Bulldogs in trouble of going down 20 Jer nice Balan Jumper in the lane can’t go
Solid shot though you I like it a lot that neither team looks over at the bench after a missed shot I that’s a sign of good coaching you know let him play Miss a shot put it behind you come back and make make the next one Lupa contested elbow jumper doesn’t go but
Jeremiah white carals a rebound and he draws a foul so that’ll be the first foul on jerck y golds Baseline out of bound and I mean if you just look at both sides the if you compare the quality of possessions and quality of shots taken M midp packs
Mid pacifics close and easy clean looks versus the challenging Decisions by the Bulldogs as Harman seal says I got this I see you from outside too he’s doing his Joel embi in personation patient shot he’ll cut the lead to 16 you know they can trade three for two
Two for one just gradually you if they can get this uh deficit down to about eight or nine by the end of the quarter you not get it back all at once and coaches spend the suggesting to the boys that we just hang in there Mason can’t
Get the three Tyson no again another offensive rebound and he’ll draw a foul from Jeremiah white his second nor has definitely made his presence felt in in limited minutes but that’s the kind of shot that the Bulldogs want Logan Mason taking the the the 20f footer instead of having him
True feasting inside on smaller players Jacob Bal can’t hit the corner three out of the out of bounds fam will bring it up not sure fam has come out of the game here he’s been with the foul trouble from Lupa he’s been asked to run the show and it’s
Poor decision on the entry passes Shyer was waiting there to bait bait it and lose his out of bounds so I’m lucky to get it back there for kamuki if I’m not mistaken that that’s the second Telegraph bounce pass he has made both times to the right wing so that’s
Something for him to think about each turnover at this stage takes on a lot of significance white faces up shoots a 24t or 23 ft and it’ll go back to the owls Ryan man into the game Jacob B up top tyon nor gets a look he’ll let it go nothing
Doing white up for quickly boy as he have some speed here uncontested to the hoop can’t get it to fall seal Mason definitely gets rid of it then finishes with the Strong extended step around yeah I think you’re being diplomatic with the extend but um nowadays that’s that’s not called travel Harman seal gambled there and at half court probably should have just bailed out and got back to home base and bought time for his troops but
Decided to go for the steel early and Mason pokes it to his teammate and knows he’s going to get right back and he’ll have another his third his third and one of the game he’ll clean that up as well Logan Mason’s perfect from the line today mid Pacific is uh impressive in their Ability fam finally gets a three to fall and their ability to answer every time it looks as though kauki is going to start drinking that lead true they really keeping their Poise very very well nothing fancy about mid Pacific really showing the discipline coach Robbie slaving company really instilling their boys
Quality possessions and taking care of the ball as on Q he turns it over Nagata Malo tough pass in traffic and yeah that’s the right call Jon Lupa would want that one back he realizes I put you in a bad spot buddy my bad know this the
First position in quite a while where we saw too much dribbling by mid Pacific and that’s where the turn turnover came from yeah I jinx it was my fault time out on the floor we got a 30 second timeout here for the owls okay all right so here we
Are halfway through the third owl sitting on a 16-point lead and playing pretty comfortably here as the Bulldogs try to scramble back this is the first of eight games today as we will have championship Friday here in the lower gym of the father Bray Athletic Complex kind of a Bittersweet
Day the last day you know it all day it’s building towards the excitement of that final at the same time you think a man it’s it’s going to be over you know use another week of this and as it most of the time ends up we have the
Morning set with all the local teams populating the early games we go over the go over the lineup here in the next opportunity but Kami opening up with a half court pressure here kind of extending a one two two and forcing something different from the owls so
Gets some sped up a little bit Ryan man seems like a good move defensively tough Baseline jumper there there’s nor again Tyson nor is third offensive rebound of the game and more importantly psychologically just putting pressure on this Kami defensive rebounding they absolutely cannot give up second shots at this stage of the
Game with a 16-point deficit that’s Aiden La strong to the hoop can’t convert Malo gets it out of his hands Hot Potato up to Lupa Lupa Seas an opening takes it good help by La forces a Miss by Lupa and here comes y nice decision with a floater in the
Lane I was about to say exactly that he’s a player who makes good decisions he consistently makes good decisions really nice looking player here heady player high IQ he’s a senior and he plays like one nor gets caught with a reach around there so Bulldogs will have a baseline out of
Bound with a fresh clock they’re down 18 with two and a half left in the third and looking to sort of turn the tide here before the quarter ends that ain’t going to help Lupa going to bring just drops his head and he wants that one back as ye up top
Being pressured by white and physical white gets the steal from Y and calls a timeout he was stuck on the ground with nowhere to go didn’t want to give up a jump ball cuz the possession was towards the owl so smartly the senior says I let me burn one and does
So 2 minutes left here in the third quarter ‘s up 18 give you the set for the rest of the day following us here in game one and on the El classic.com website beautiful website user interface is top Top Notch I must say you’ll see the whole slate of
Schedule so I apologize I’m calling today game one it’s game one of today it’s actually game 25 of the entire tournament but the second game today will be the Kam kapalama Warriors taking on the Kawaii High Red Raiders that’s at 10:30 and then that’ll be followed by Milani Trojans and the
Other kameha from Mai at 12:00 for our new matchup white strong to the hoop nor a little too close and he’ll get tagged for the body as white will take his first trip to the line white is an outstanding individual player but I’m not sure if uh you know
Isolation is going to get this team back into the game he needs to evolve in that sense where he needs to recognize he’s going one on five against a setup defense where if you just get deeper into the shot clock you get more defensive bodies moving and heads
Turning he’ll have a lot easier opportunity and we can see that as the Bulldogs have only attempted which is this will be their fourth free throw of the game as opposed to Mid Pacific who Logan Mason alone has attempted six so little tail of the tape there as Jason Lupa will take a
Breather Bulldog extend in sort of a three4 chord one two11 looking to see they can just get something different perhaps somebody handling the ball they don’t want or somebody shooting the ball they don’t want and Brian man gets fouled by fam and no call so results in the air ball but he’s
Clearly got hit in the arm there white finally gets a three to go six-point turnaround there Bulldogs cut the lead the 13 so seeing if this pressure can render better result for them is it hasn’t caused turnovers but it’s caused them to take low percentage shots
In it has caused a turnover and then they just give it right back kind of the story of the game so far seems like a Nagata up top fan pressuring aside from the turnovers the Bulldogs have not played badly it’s just that mid pacif played so well both teams trading turnovers here
As neither one wanting to sort of settle in on a possession so Bulldogs down 13 minute left looking to perhaps at least get themselves an opportunity to be in Striking Distance for the fourth quarter here’s white again forging his way into traffic and he’ll get a tough
Jumper to roll now that he’s made a couple he’s in a position when he beats his man if the help defense comes they’re so keen on him that now he can find an open man get another shot he’s got great body control and to broad shoulders he can get his shot off when
He wants big pick here by Jason Lupa and second Miss of the day for him in the open court and he just claps his hand in frustration and says really and not all misses are created equal um at this stage of the game you’ve got to have that that would have
Cut it to single digits let’s see if fam can do that he does Bulldogs with a flurry here to end the third and they’re only down eight you he just 18 and fam could be a really key part of the comeback if he starts to make threes at his normal rate he was
Ice cold in first three Shyer Corner gets it that’s a clut shot huge shot by Cher stops the bleeding 10 seconds left in the quarter Lupa clean look from the elbow and gets that to go we might have ourselves a ball game here Cher half court heave just off the Mark he’s watching
Those girls at halftime boy was that close well catch your breath here because after those turnovers the last two minutes a flurry of action settles us at a 9-point lead at the end of three for the mid-pacific owls we’ll be right back We all all [Applause] right and what has I think is becoming an unintentional and for some of us unwelcome tradition here at the Yani classic is coach Eddie marama in the breakfast bowl games Here urging the fans to join in I like it it’s early it’s tough to get everybody’s blood moving here so coach trying to get crowd participation here speaking of getting blood moving there that was not a problem at all for the Huddle between quarters he is very very
Animated I think he wants his team focused and we can see now as ye does yep he does get a walk here as the Bulldogs open up and finally extend full pressure and it catches the owls on by surprise it’s definitely played a role in this comeback the fact that they went
To the half court pressure at the very least that forces mid Pacific to use more of the shot prop than they want white got e isolation post move all the way to the hoop converts he was determined score Here Comes Jeremiah white another big second half as he is
Taking advantage of of that size and strength and body control the mismatch ye but boy if there is a if there is a detriment to his game it is his decision making on fouls as significant trouble as he picks up should be his third but the board says his fourth we’ll get that
Corrected as that’s pretty significant here as we wind down into the fourth quarter Bulldogs poke it away Al will have 22 to shoot here as he is uncontested on the inbounds from the corner Jacob B stuck needs to get out of traffic still there goes into traffic
Spins out Mira kicks it bow Corner three short gets his own rebound how often do we see that little things like that kill a r wow another clean look can’t convert Harman seal finally converts caral on here as Cher gets called for a cheap one reaching in yeah those little things in
The comeback everything counts he got to box out that’ll be his first smallest guy on the floor gets a rebound of his own three-pointer okay we did confirm from the table that yes in fact Jeremiah white has four fouls and he remains in the game and you
Know this is almost a repeat of yesterday in a couple different ways and one sort of inverse way where white is again in deep foul trouble with a lot of time left in the game as Robbie schav the all will call a 3 a full timeout
Excuse me he wants to draw something up there against the uh the guys are out out of sorts or last position but you know as much as Deon Lupa carried the load for them yesterday as white was saddled with foul trible he just has not found a way to
Get things going at six first half points has been blanked in the second and several key turnovers and Miss shots and he just loses that our B there just doesn’t look like the same player and you can see the frustration there in the senior guard yeah we’re all human every day is
Different day if they if if kuki could have days where where most of their starting lineup is having a good day the same on the same day very tough but each game it seems one guy’s off or another guy right if they could all beond of course that’s true for all
Teams but in their case in particular cuz you know their bench is okay but it’s not it’s not a great bench yeah the olives can go a little bit deeper than can be dogs as but as you were saying right um it’s still early it’s pre-season and one of
The things is not just the physical skills you’re working on but the mental ones like decision making Bulldogs again with the fierce half court pressure ye recognize it nice dump down to Logan Mason who finishes Logan Mason having a big night big morning excuse me very good decision
Making at high speed by the whole whole mid lineup on that position Bulldog’s assistant coach Shane matayoshi beautiful spin move by Hario can’t get it the fall last night saying how they really got to have a lot out of their top six because they don’t have much
Depth and that can go both ways for them as the owls with another turnover early in the shot clock trying to force the issue they’re sitting on a nine-point lead here just under six to go in the game couple of reason the whole picture changes I mean that’s that kind of play
A turnover early in the shot clock that’s exactly what Kaimuki wants from mid Pacific at this point got to frustrate coach schab a little bit to see that after that great possession on the previous coach has spin th subbing in Fritz ptiu shooter he has his five best offensive weapons on the floor
These are the five main options here for the Bulldog to score so they’re in a nice set little one 14 High trying to two-man game here take advantage of white here shoots up over the top but a double team and gets it that’s a big time shot Ry
Mir tough defense but that’s a division one college Cali beautiful shot by Jeremiah white as Logan Mason was sitting there on the help and he still converted it seven-point lead here for the ows Mira nice off the glass by excellent pass by CH not a bad cut either
Well Jeremiah white there with four fouls couldn’t do much about it got cross faac and got caught himself in trouble here as lupa’s kind of just kind of go one on five and that’ll work cuz he’ll get the runner in the lane to go starting out to use some clock
Strategy so we have a Timeout on the floor here it’s a 30 second time out we’re just under five here in the fourth with what looked like it could have been done by now Al had an 18-point lead in the third Midway through the third almost
Makes you wonder now did they go to the pressure defense too late great point cuz they went on the Bulldogs did they went on a 10o 10 run and have earned themsel a shot at stealing this game plenty of time left but you know one thing on their side is that because they
Didn’t go to the the pressure defense earlier they’re not tooo tired to execute it from here to the end and on the flip side of that the owls haven’t had three quarters to get used to it either as we see three turnovers in the last spanning the last end of the third
And beginning of the fourth but they still have not adjusted sufficiently every possession is a whole different picture they’ll look good one possession sloppy the next Bulldogs here and again kind of a loose one two11 one of sorts trying to go the owls into a turnover y
Solid with it gets doubled nor nice kick out to an open jaob B for three and he gets it yeah that started with great decision making by by everybody finding the right person at the right time and ball can’t take you can’t give him too many chances he’ll
Stick that so lead stretches to 10 here Lupa trying to answer early shot clock deep three no good y wisely gets himself out of trouble sneaks wi into the mea and the ows will hold it’s no coincidence that this comeback is taken place at the same time that we’ve seen a lot
Less Pacific he was dominating true Mason only two points in the fourth quarter as often times a change in defense dictates a change in offense in terms of who’s touching it when ‘s in a two three Zone and another unforced error just can’t happen here as you’re trying
To claw back in the fourth quarter hard luck hard luck that one was probably the worst one of the day for the Bulldogs considering when it happened how’s moving the ball nicely here Y in control in the pain another open look for Jacob B can’t get it huge
Offensive rebound by Tyson no he’ll keep it himself can’t get it to fall Harman seal gets it in chiso again tries to sneak in with another foul nor is an offensive rebounding machine nor has four offensive rebounds seems like you know 80% of his touches come from offensive
Rebound chizer ill advised there tried to get a steal on seal there but that’s his second time time he fouled trying to grab a def offensive rebound here come the Bulldogs white up top two-man game here with Lupa White’s got y in the wing takes it strong gets
Bump no call seal fights for it Troy yashi comes down with it gets wrestled away Fritz ptiu gets it now seal fam deep open three can’t get it to go that’s the one they needed that’s the one really needed that Cher quickly up Court to Y who will settle in here
Cher tries to dump it into Mason and that’s an easy too easy dump to Mason where Cher recognizing that they had size on the inside and Mason gets his fourth point of the fourth quarter here you’ll get a could have been could have been the
Nail in the coffin I me I don’t think the nails hammered all the way down but it’s in there two and a half left here 12 point lead for the owls and you are right here these next couple of possessions could decide it as white launches a deep uncontested
Three well white heard us and said well we’re not done yet just what they needed lead is nine ows is extended pressure got admire how much Poise Cher plays never out of control nor balanced inside very smart Cher clean look doesn’t get it ye hiashi will launch a bank three today his Birthday they had a fresh shot clock and he decided to launch it and we’ll ask him later if he decided to call Glass quick shot by Lupa and that might have done it as the owl sit on 12-point lead and only a minute and a half see if they can actually take
Advantage of this clock here no gets doubled and Coach Robbie schav with the parachute timeout here to save him in the coffin corner speaking of coffins so minute and a half left ‘s on a 12-point lead with the ball 2 seconds on the shot clock definitely a valiant effort in the second
Half just didn’t have enough there is still time here but I think coach espinda and Coach mon yoshian staff are going to kind of look at this film and say and our offensive decision making in terms of when we’re shooting from where is might come back to give him a little
Bit of a headache because they have advantages and mismatches on the floor and it just looked like they didn’t have the patience to exploit them as M excuse me as both Lupa and white tend to force the issue early in the clock now to White’s defense he can get these looks he can
Get a shot off anytime he wants and that’s true so hard to talk at a guy out of that but perhaps maybe little nuanced uh suggestion of maybe perhaps looking at a little bit higher percentage opportunities nonetheless to the senior senior tandem of guards here for the Bulldogs are
Going to give the OAA fits this season no doubt as Shyer recognized the double was weak and split it they have a lot of the ingredients strong team kind of they’ve got nothing to be ashamed they’re GNA have a good season and even if we want to play the we have
A there is no three there’s no three this okay so the ref yeah we’re yeah we that’s what we figured yeah we figured uh yeah just a little miscommunication here as Lou Francis called the fou on three but it meant to be Peter M 33 so we got that all sorted
Out you hear people seeing double but this time you saw single fris ptiu now Bulldogs still have two to give to get to the bonus so you know they need to play the bonus game here and they can’t let I will sit on a fresh shot clock as they have a fresh shot
Clock here and shisa will get it in and guu they try to double and get a steal and they do Lupa converting finally finishes gets fouled doesn’t get it ye inbounded so the owls will maintain possession here and as a timeout by Kim key they’re down 10 minute 14 left and
That’s where that pressure comes and I think sometimes offensive players are just expecting to absorb the foul instead of being strong with it and understanding that they still need get need to get out of pressure yes yesterday’s broadcast coach Dean shimamoto had said the same thing in the
M game about cowering and exposing the ball and exposing yourself to being turnover PR as be as opposed to be strong with it and not assume the fouls coming cuz if you assume it and the defensive player is deaf enough to avoid it then you come up with nothing and
That’s frequently the case on first pose yourself to a 5-second call when you’re trying to unfurl your arms to deliver the ball things bad things can happen so we shouldn’t be surprised if K ke is going to bring more pressure on this next possession coach robish slav preparing his guys to say
Okay this is what happens he’s gesticulating what to do with the ball and pressure and we’ll see how this plays out you know it’s almost unfortunate that um paik did not get the foul call there because then he’s going to score three with the clock stopped and it’s only a nine-point lead three
Possession game did have a good case there he got hit pretty good across the head but no call and Troy yashi will sneak around the initial pressure and Y likes to have that back we want our guards to have their eyes to the rim but he tried to
Get White’s hands up and no look to Mason problem was it was arm level so easily poked out of bounds by white nor with an ill advised early three Piru easy play from White the lead is now eight 52 to play here Bulldog scrambling ye nor travels doesn’t get a call
Cher dumped down to Mason he can’t get it to call here come the Bulldogs down eight white trying to get a hold of it gets it P three by nor and nor will get called for a foul guys intelligently as mid Pacific has been playing the whole
Game very surprising to see them take that position hard to the hole that possession hard to the home instead of pulling it back out running the offense and using some clock one forc one of the mistakes they’ve made all through the game is their second as white goes deep
Doesn’t get it gets his own rebound finishes in the lane around and outstretch Mason great challenge by Mason no no with no foul there and Garner’s a missed shot by white as this thing starting to bleed down and this might be it for the uh bulldogs as they’ll give a foul and
I think white did exactly what you were talking about there he was anticipating the foul so much that he didn’t stay focused on the shot was a very makeable shot and at the same time Mason was very Adept and avoiding the foul he’s got good body control he’s athletic he’s
Smart yeah smart play by Mason to challenge without fouling and leave Lupa in a tough spot here as nor will get the inbound and this should do it here as Bulldogs try to fight free but hiashi has been a nice late addition for the owls actually where they needed
Some measured decision making young sophomore put into a put into the fire here late has done well he was he did a really good job of helping the team as a quintet maintain their spacing offensively and um he handled the ball well kept the ball moving nice contribution from The Young
Sophomore as ye misses the first but it won’t matter there’s one and a half left to play and he’ll convert and we’ll get a heave here and or not and Fritz P says thanks very much and that’ll do it so first game of Championship Friday is
In the books as the owls hold on to an eight-point win here 60 to 52 over the K Bulldogs the owls will in the tournament at a 3-1 record and the Bulldogs one and3 as they’ll start their league play tomorrow you know now that we’ve seen the whole
Game I think you know it’s safe to say that did not end up being a breakfast bowl kind of game the energy was good not just on the floor the energy the intensity but the the crowd was bigger the crowd was more into it it didn’t
Feel like 9:00 in the morning a great point and although there were a few turnovers for the most part it was less than the normal sloppiness you see and that’s a testament to the coaches in preparation the players being ready I think this is they’ve had three early
Morning games in a row or at least midday and um so they’re kind of used to it you know really classy job here of Coach Gren vinda and Shane matayoshi you know coach great into of K making sure all his players go and thank the staff and the the tournament officials here
Is really grateful for the opportunity and I tell you what after of all the coaches that we contact Brier and we try to get them set up with their pre- tournament packages and communic and so forth and Coach Raiden has been the most coaches thank you so much the email yes

Great Testament to both both schools but coaches Spinda runs a compete and learn League which again even the name itself suggests what he’s all about and uh he and his family and staff run the league and it’s in the fall and it’s in the spring and and those are not easy I mean
It’s not glamorous it’s not you don’t make a whole ton of money off of it it’s a lot of work and it’s youth leaks the little ones all the way through to the upper ages and so we talk about a lot of these coaches and their contributions to their not
Only their schools but their community and and that’s islandwide so hats off the coaches sper because you know my sons and a bunch of my nephews and kids we coach have benefited from that league for years um and with wins not being the priority and coach has been the
Stressing League wide to the coaches and the players it’s about class sportsmanship unselfishness you know that’s the kind of seeds that are planted in the community that grow later as we see those very kids Darius Sher Cher being one of them coming up I mean Darius was he was a
Little shooter you know when he seven eight years old but that that just that’s just goes to show how much of a reach a lot of these uh coaches have so to put a bow on our first game of the day between the Bulldogs and the
Owl hard poot game for both we’re going to set up here our next game and take a quick break for sponsors in the breath of fresh air as the sun is finally out here I can see through the door so we’re going to get some vitamin
What is it B what is the sun E I think is it b e I have no idea can’t remember anymore well no right now hey Siri which vitamin does the sun give us Sor says vitamin D well that’s what we meant yeah we just want to make sure our listeners are paying
Attention vitamin D you know I I found a way to remember that from now on we should all remember it vitamin D daylight D daylight vitamin D well we will have the KEH kapal Lama Warriors matching up as against the kaii Red Raiders here in just about 9 minutes as
The two teams warm up for carteri and Peter greenh Hill certainly been a pleasure hope to run this back next year Cav scan and we’ll get back with you in a few minutes malao we’ll see in a little bit Allah chrm I
