At the start of this video I share all my current swing change thoughts and the second half of the video 5:00 I show you how a practice session should look like, how low handicap / pro golfers work through swing changes. Trust me you want to stick through the entire video! **

There are thousands of videos online sharing tips on the golf swing, that is not a concern. The issue is, majority of high handicap golfers are unable to take the information they have learned and have success with it on their own. They struggle with swing changes, get frustrated and give up. Next week they are trying a new drill and have a similar fate. Although the correct drill for your body/swing is important, what is equally as important is HOW YOU PRACTICE to implement these changes! Most golfers fail to train correctly and those that do are the ones who lower their handicaps quickly.

At the age of sixteen I lowered my handicap to a scratch golfer from a 28. I accomplished this in 1.5 years. Yes I put in a tons of hours of practice time however so do many recreational golfers but they don’t always see the results. In this video I will share with you my current swing thoughts and show you how I practice to implement the changes I want to see. Adopt this mindset and you will see great progress in your journey as a golfer.

As a coach I really emphasize the contents of this video on a daily basis during my in person lessons. Today I am sharing this knowledge with you. Watch the whole video as there are nuggets planted throughout the video.

Welcome back to golf made easyy so today’s video is not an instructional video I’m actually going to be sharing some of the things that I’m working on right now in my golf swing I want you guys to see how I practice so the biggest thing that I see that with

People that take lessons or learn online or learn off YouTube like you guys are now is not being able to implement the proper practice habits so let’s get into it I’m going to share my swing thoughts right now some of the things that I’m working on I’ll share them from face on

View and down the line View and then I’m going to show you how I practice okay so over the years my issue with my golf swing has been I kind of rotate my arms a little bit too much at impact and I tend to come into out a little bit too

Much and hit a hook okay so what I’ve been working on is trying to stay a little bit better in posture a little bit more rotation through impact and a little bit more passive with my arm kind of release sideways with a square face instead of turning the face over all

Right so here we go I’m going to share all my swing thoughts right here my back swing thoughts right now are not to get too risty okay I want to keep a little bit more connection as I turn so I try to feel my shoulders start

My back swing instead of my hands okay so that’s one thought start the back swing a little bit with more width and more chest turn next thought as I get here I want to get a little bit bigger hip turn and let my left knee come in a

Little bit sometimes I restrict my left knee and I can’t get that little bit of hip turn which puts too much stress on my upper body okay so second thought is just let my hips turn a little bit more and that helps me get a little bit more

Around instead of lifting my arms up too quick so I’m trying to feel this okay instead of that third thought as I turn and get to the top I sometimes move towards the ball a little bit so I’m trying to feel like my legs feel like I’m trying to use my

Hamstrings a little bit more instead of getting on my toes and getting forward I want to get a little bit deeper with that hip and I want to feel like my quads or my hamstrings are engaged okay so I take it back and I feel like I’m

Able to maintain my posture a little bit better instead of getting just a little bit up here so those are all my back swing thoughts okay so now my down swing thoughts are I need to feel like I sit more in transition so I don’t come up

Now all these things that I do are like very little like compared to a beginner golfer who will move quite a bit mine’s like just a hair right but it makes a difference so that’s just kind of what I’m working on so keep that in mind as

You watch this I’m trying to take my back swing I usually have like a loop here that puts me too much into out so I’m trying to feel instead of of coming up just a smidge I feel like I go backwards which actually pushes my hands

Forward or for me more so on plane instead of under plane so I get back here feel like I sit a bit as I rotate instead of standing and tilting which takes my path kind of more into out and it’s just a subtle movement in transition so that’s another

Swing thought I have is to get here okay so coming from here now instead of releasing and throwing my arm this way which is what I kind of teach slicers and it’s like a let’s call it a a beginner or amateur kind of release for people that are

Still learning they can get some speed from their hands I kind of teach them if they’re slicing with an open face get them to shut the face over and swing right just to get the ball drawing and as they get better and better then we can have more of a passive release where

You’re using your body more you got more sh aen um kind of what I’m doing but most beginner golfers that’s too complicated okay so just also keep that in mind as I go through these things don’t copy these things that I’m doing this is specifically for me I’m just kind of

Sharing I just want to share with you guys what it’s like to practice all these thoughts okay so the downswing thought now from here I feel like instead of releasing more like that in my arm straightening I try to keep my arm a little bit more bent and just

Release downwards more okay and have just a little bit more rotation through Impact versus my shoulder gets too high sometimes stalls out my rotation and my hands flip over I’m just trying to be more this way and more that way so it gives me more of this

Look okay and I’m trying to stay in my posture another thought is I don’t want to get on my toes I want my right knee to kind of get closer to my left leg okay I’m right there so instead of going here which kind of causes all of

This I want to go in here get some weight on my left leg as I’m rotating have that release and then come out in my follow through here I’m trying to stay in posture as well that’s another thought stay in posture through impact and then come

Up so that’s a lot of stuff okay my point to show you guys all this is I am never trying to not never but I’m rarely trying to do all those things at the same time so here’s how you need to practice okay so whatever swing thoughts

That you guys are trying to work on it needs to be one by one so first I’m just going to focus on the first thing so let’s say I have an hour session and I we’re to work on all of those things first 10 balls or 10

Minutes I’m just going to work on the takeaway so what I’m going to do I’m going to set a mirror somewhere and Visually look in the mirror and see okay I know I do this what does that feel like okay so I’m looking in a mirror

Like okay I see this this feels like this what do this what I the look that I’m trying to achieve what does that feel like okay what’s the difference between these movements okay that feels like this feels like this okay I got it I got the feeling okay so then I come

Over here I try I said I can set up a camera in front of me I can try to feel this a couple times and then go ahead and hit a shot okay then I want to check that video did I actually do this or did I

Just go back to this most times when you’re making a swing change it’s going to go right back to your old movement so it’s not important too important where the ball’s going but is your swing changing okay so you actually have it’s helpful to do all of this stuff at home

In front of the mirror to feel like okay this is what it feels like this is what it feels like then you can do it faster and see if you can maintain it and you’re like okay I got it I’m ready now let me go to the driving range whether

It’s outdoors indoors or hitting in a net at home let me go try that movement with a golf ball at a slower speed slowly working up to a faster speed and measuring it via video to see if you’re actually achieving it so for 10 minutes I’m going to hit

Shots with very slow speeds just getting that wide takeaway I can even pause if I need to and then Swing Swing from that new position not from the old position so I can pause if I need to force myself to get there and then swing then I can

Slowly start swinging faster and faster if I can maintain it then I move on to the next drill I’m gonna say okay now I don’t care what my wrist does because I’m not focusing on it may or may not happen Okay depending on what level you’re at

In your body awareness you can try to do this and the next drill or you can just jump to the next drill okay so now I’m going to try to feel my hip turns and my leg kind of gets in a little bit so I don’t care about my wrists anymore I’m

Just going to try to focus all my attention on this part same thing feel it in the mirror okay that feels like this cuz when you’re swinging fast or taking a full swing you can’t see if you’re actually doing it or not so you have to look in the mirror remember that

Feeling of when you do do it and then you can try to repeat that feeling with when you’re hitting a ball and looking at the ball okay so then I’m going to come over here I’m going to set up my golf ball really going to feel like what this feels

Like okay turning the hips there and make sure I do it and then I don’t care where it goes then I after three or four swings check your video okay great that one was really easy to do so I don’t really need to work so hard on that one

Maybe I can go to the next one then I would work on the the next thing then I can work on the next thing which is for me feeling like I’m engaging my hamstrings a little bit more and just kind of sitting just a little bit versus coming forwards okay so same

Again exact same rehearsals for me feel that feel that put a ball here feel that and make sure I do that okay and now once I’ve done that then I move on to the next drill the next drill next drill so then at the very end I can try to put

All the swing thoughts together and see see what the result is right and my goal is just to get 1% better that day okay and maybe I can just go I can pair up the backswing thoughts I can feel like wide takeaway hip turn and feel like I stay back hit

Some balls like that then I can do my downswing thoughts or my impact thoughts as many as you can handle okay it’s not about trying to change things fast it’s trying about the quality of the movement so if you only hit 20 balls but you’re super focused and you’re like checking

Every swing to make sure you did it that’s way better than hitting hting 200 balls and just kind of hitting as fast as you can and you’re not actually changing any muscle movement patterns okay so after I’ve done all my all my stuff I

Can try to hit 10 balls or for the final 10 minutes just just kind of not think about anything and then see video that and see what that looks like so I’d like you guys to follow a similar process um I’m somebody that went from shooting a

100 to even par in a year and a half I hit a a lot of golf balls uh probably hit like 300 balls a day I played a golf every day I was you know I was 16 17 year old so I had time uh I putt it I

Putt for two three hours a day I chipped um obviously we don’t have that much time majority of the people watching this so how can you get better at home this is what you have to do you have to do slow motion swings into a mirror seeing what the difference is

What does it feel like do do all that work so that when you go to hit balls indoors you don’t come here paying for an hour time is ticking and you’re thinking about what you learned in your last lesson or how does it feel like right you want to do all that

Preparation stuff at home when you come here you already know what the movement feels like you’re just putting a ball in front because it’s easy to do when there’s no golf ball it’s easy to do in slow motion soon as you put a golf ball in front

Your brain only knows how to hit it the way you currently do so it Resorts back to the old movements so you have to come here and you kind of have to overwrite your old movements you have to get to that position you you want and like flow it like you really

Have to kind of feel the new one like oh I like to go here I want to go here so you have to like force yourself to go to that movement slowly and hit it like it has to work on you have to work on your

Swing in pieces in pieces then you can put this these two pieces together you can put these three pieces together and then it slowly starts to flow I can’t have a 10 out of 10 takeaway and a two out of 10 everything else like that swing is not going to

Function i’ rather have you become a two out of 10 at every single thing and that will collectively give you a better result then you try to become a three out of 10 in everything four or five you slowly level up all right guys so hopefully that helps you guys out I know

A lot of people are frustrated nowadays they don’t know how to practice they’re frustrated not being able to convert what they did in their last lesson and have it uh happen in their practice session so this is help for you guys uh let me know in the comments if you have

Any questions cheers Guys

  1. Thanks for this video, I always get frustrated with why I can’t make swing changes. This gave me a better idea on how I should practice! Work on one drill at a time and using mirrors really makes sense.

  2. Wow 28 strokes dropped in a year and a half! That’s insane. That was helpful to see how a better player practices. I definitely don’t practice like this, I just beat balls and hope I’m getting better haha. Second half of this video was very informative. I just started golfing last year and really enjoy this game. Looking forward to more content.
