That comment we’re officially at the point and maybe a lot of golf fans were already there who aren’t in our orbit of caring as much as people who are probably watching this but only four tournaments matter and he can do whatever you want with the others

Um and the ones that will matter to me are the ones that uh Victor and and ludic are playing in not going to lie like everyone’s got to find their own reason and obviously Tiger but in this like [ __ ] storm of of what is pro golf

At the moment that you got to choose your own Adventure as to what’s going to matter to you outside of obviously the gambling sphere and you give me a hot ticket in the Sanderson Farms and I’m going to watch it that’s the big thing so I’ve just heard a lot of negativity surrounding

Especially the PGA Tour because well Liv is still Making Waves we’ll dig into Liv here in a second because we don’t as of the time of this recording we don’t know exactly what Liv involvement the piff is going to be with the PGA Tour it sounds

Like that’s still on the table at the moment so that could wildly shake up everything should they end up coming to an agreement for an infusion of cash but what will you remember 2023 for is it the fracturing of golf or is it just that the PGA put themselves in such a

Spot trying to get into this arms race with Liv in terms of money that they kind of screwed themselves yes uh from that like macro sense it was they broke their own back and they ate a lot of their own words and um they ate themselves in some

Regards and they made a lot of their top stars look really stupid like John ROM Rory Maloy guys that put up themselves on a pedestal for these for the tour and try you know Arie and Jack’s Vision you know what would they do and and they tried and you know you had a

Great conversation with um with powers and the tour junkies on a lot of that ROM stuff so don’t really need to jump like too deep into it but John ROM can simply say like J Monahan I like it’s j Monahan’s fault I’m gone like or the

Vision of the tour because yeah now it does look Bleak and they have these embarrassing moments Pat where it’s like the three third like the 300th ranked player in the world is like crying like we don’t care about you either man um but a lot of it’s hyperbole I

Think in this moment a lot of us you know who like a lot of people I’ve seen people who we’ve been friends with or at least like internet friends with forever being like very very very down on golf like they’re going to win one Showdown thing and in January they’re

Going to be fired up like that’s just how the cookie crumbles for at least the people we interact with right yeah I I find it kind of strange like I If if gambling in Daily fantasy sports are the main reasons that you follow golf I don’t understand what’s different

Whatsoever like the only thing that’s different that has made things worse is for the upcoming season is that we’re going to have more smaller field no cut events which are absolute disasters I mean they’re just not fun to play DraftKings on they’re not fun to bet on

By and large I would prefer to have a even as kind of Victor pointed out although you know if he ends up going to live we’ll end up seeing because he’s going to play in all these elevated events that he thinks that know golf should be play with 150 people with a

Cut line it gives you that incentive to do well and I I just I understand wanting to funnel the money to the better players but I don’t think I mean at least in my mind I don’t feel like the elevated events were that big of a success in 2023 do

You no and they kind of piggybacked right in like major season and that was something new that the players are going to have to figure out like the best way to do that but um they kind of got boring and repetitive granted there were a lot of surprise winners like from

Kittama to Keegan to I even want to say Lucas Glover in some respects so it was very interesting in that regard Pat but yeah 2023 I’ll remember you know am I silly to think that Brooks kepa’s performance in both the Masters and winning the PGA Championship may have done more than the

Extra100 million that live offer John ROM to get rom to go to make him go to make him real I could go why not go I I don’t think so I I think it was the promise that there was all this money floating around on the PGA tour and

Maybe and listen ROM played it smart from a bunch of ways that he ended up getting the bag anyway I don’t know exactly how much money he got but it sounds like he was one of the top three people paid to go to live he didn’t have

To deal honestly with any of the backlash that the first wave of guys did they kind of took the bullets for everyone and now he’s just on like a media blackout he got his money and if all things play out like the tea leaves have shown us that live and PGA or I

Don’t want to say be merged but they’re going to be very friendly with each other within two years so it’s like he it’s going to be like he didn’t leave at all but he got a big pile of money to go do it yeah and he gets his exemptions

He’s in Augusta he’s got his Majors uh there’s going to be a path back into those Premier Events Pat um but as we sit here now it seems like the PGA Tour is bleeding more title sponsors going into this upcoming year well it would make sense they lost Wells Fargo for

Quail Hollow when a bank doesn’t want to pay you the money the extra money that you’re demanding you can find yourself in a world of trouble there was something with the Fenway Sports Group that they ended up know buying part of the PGA Tour and infusing a bunch of

Money like they need to the PGA can’t like I said can’t get into the arms race apparently they were spending like $150,000 per day on lawyers fighting live with all this stuff like I don’t get why they care about Liv so much no one else cares about live they care

About losing these top end players but the PGA Tour has always been the league the Premier League over the past whatever many years like when we’ve seen like sort of the it’s not that the Euro tour has dissolved but its importance has become far less important

Over the past few decades and the PGA Tour has risen above it because they can always replenish with new stars they had tiger and then you had a new wave coming in at all times be it young players older players like furick or Steve Stricker going on a little bit of a run

With a bit of name credibility then you have the new infusion coming in and we’re still seeing that on the PGA tour but it’s like they think that they can get to the levels they were at with tiger without tiger and that’s just crazy person thinking total crazy person thinking and

It is as we’ve spoken about a few times it has created a a a misrepresentation I think of these guys on their own self sense of worth I don’t think they’re worth what they think they’re worth outside of just a very small handful of them and Patrick

Kentley’s an easy target but there’s no way Patrick kentley is worth what he in his head thinks he’s worth like it’s just it’s impossible it’s impossible he’s an incredible golfer world class but I don’t think he moves a needle for anything for anything for anybody so

It’s this awkward you know D of who’s actually worth something and golf is so Niche that people just like to turn it on and see good players hit golf shots I it Liv’s biggest problem and I invoke my father a lot on this show because he’s

Part of the culture who’s a lot older flirts with 80 years old and has never had a PGA app has never made a PGA bet he just knows like in the same way he knew when I was a kid that he could turn on like CNN at a specific time and that

Larry King live show was on he just knows on the weekend I turn on one of two channels and the PGA Tour is on it’s literally like putting on the Nightly News Liv’s biggest problem is people like people can laugh like it’s easy you just download the CW app or go

To the CW channel why do people make fun of that that’s not hard you’re right that’s not hard but there’s such an inconsistency in the schedule that people have no idea I’m not talking about us who know when events are going on but like the niche part of the sport

Has no idea week in week out which week is that live event they just know that they can turn on CBS at 2 o’clock on four o’clock on the weekend and watch the final nine holes of the leaders and that’s what that that’s that like they

Put on the weather they put on the news it’s there they don’t know one lives there doesn’t matter what course or who is playing I mean that and and one of the things that I got into with the tour junkies and Chris was whether it be

Stars or not there very few players that actually do move the needle and I didn’t think that Rah was one of them he was helpful having John ROM near the leaderboard in your tournament was a good thing but it’s not like people were running everyone wants to treat it like

It’s tiger where it’s like oh Tiger’s in the hunt we need to watch this there’s no one Rory is the maybe closest one and even he’s like eh spe maybe casual people like my my Grandma will tune in to root against spe if spe is in the

Hunt so that there’s one of your viewers for you she might not watch other than that but oh it just trying to hold it to the courses end up being kind of the stars of all this and that’s what the PGA still has like oh yeah Liv stole

Myoba great like no big deal on that front but if Liv and I know it’s brand new so like how you supposed to know consistency and the fewer events is part of the charm at least to the players that’s what makes it attractive but if

Liv is like on if people know where to watch Liv or sorry they know where to watch it but if it’s like consistent as a golf F Pat like if I’m seeing Phil Mickelson line up a flop shot I’m going to stay if I’m seeing Bryson dambo line up a drive I’m going

To stay and watch if I see Cameron Smith I’m gonna watch if I see DJ W just walking on The Fairway I’m as a golf fan like that’s enough equity in from those guys for what they’ve given me I’ve even mentioned John ROMs Brooks Kea that I

Would like stick around and watch I would um and the easy thing is with a lot of casuals you could just air like the tape delay overnight from Spain or I don’t I know they play all over the world all over the world but um I I

Don’t know they just got to get something that’s consistent that like golf fans know that they can know when it’s coming and then they’ll watch it like that’s what I believe yeah the consist especially because so much of this audience is old that this is when

It always comes on you basically have to think like cust when it comes down to how the PGA programming who are the most regimented people in societ iy old people old people they have their ways they’re like everything they do they don’t like breaking their their patterns

I mean yeah I admit it like I own it like when live it all started my biggest take wasn’t so much like where the money was I’m just a spoiled North American Sports Fan where the best players just play in the same league I’m not into

Soccer I watch the World Cup but soccer is not my thing so you know if and I get it a lot of the world is used to Messi and Ronaldo Al though not being in the same league and never playing but as a spoiled North American Sports Fan I’m

Not used to it I’m not accustomed to it and I don’t like it I don’t like it one bit and um I guess all the power to the majors but that’s really just my biggest beef about it that was the biggest thing that stood out to me from 2023 is how

Important the majors have become and after that every tournament’s sort of irrelevant it’s what now we’re not going to get Honda as the title sponsor but we’re still going to get I forget what the the new sponsor is or what they’re calling the one at PGA National now is

That there’s just it’s just the P it’s just the Palm Beach Classic or something man there you go like I don’t care if Honda’s a sponsor or not but I would not enjoy it like that’s what one of the reasons that I tune in to watch because

It’s not like the basically since that fourman playoff that tiger almost got into like eight years ago at the Honda they haven’t had a good field it’s a Jabron field it’s been giving terrible placing placement on the schedule for the PGA or sandwich in between the players and elevated events it’s just it

Was thrown to the wind and no one would care but it’s still a tournament that rat’s okay because people like that course great course and they just they get a lot of great finishes off the top of my head you can run them off from

Like it it’s come down to the wire last year was that Eric Cole playoff you almost hit a monster we had the Justin Thomas Luke Liss playoff we had the sun JM battling Tommy and Westwood down the stretch to 18 um and and I’m sure even more before it

So it’s had a lot of entertaining finishes there there and even the Brooks versus Fowler that who stole it with the putt help me oh Keith Mitchell Keith Mitchell stole one there um and then before that the burger Herrington on a mon I don’t I’m just RI now I’m just

Showing off how much I remember the event that’s sorry didn’t mean to do that I agree I love the course that’s the fun because that’s where after watching these guys be able to bomb and gouge for like a month they actually play Precision golf I love the Honda

Because that’s it’s like a FAL European it’s like my favorite European tour players or like European players that’s usually where they show up for the first time getting ready for the Masters and such uh in the Old World um yeah courses I don’t know man Fields leaderboards I

I’m just a better too though so I feel weird speaking about it like if I’ve got a hot ticket like I’m enthralled if I don’t I can go play with my kids if it’s not a major you know what I mean that’s the reality of it it’s no different than

Me having money on the Euro tour waking up and like my guy is still in it you know I’ll sit down and watch it for a little bit probably if I have things to do on a Sunday morning or Saturday morning I’ll just track it on my phone

The entire time I’ll pay attention to it but I think that’s how a lot of us interact with golf like I do like to sit down and watch golf every single week but if I can’t do it you can kind of pick it up it’s okay and ratings by CBS

They had 42 PGA broadcast for the season CBS said numbers were up 1% and the designated events were up 5% year-over-year from the tournaments that they used to be so I guess it’s somewhat of a success especially in a dwindling TV ratings Market that if you can have

Anything going up that’s probably a really good thing at this point but I I don’t know it’s just not just because you go up 5% in ratings for your signature events that doesn’t justify expanding the prize polls by $20 million and sponsors know that that’s ridiculous yeah and sponsors know that these guys

Aren’t worth what they think they’re worth if they were if they were worth that much then actual sponsors to put listen how much did Nike pay tiger in the Heyday like $100 million a year KPMG was paying Phil like $30 million a year or something if you’re actually that

Relevant then you’re going to get the actual sponsorships from companies to where their logos and their names on your shirt if you’re not getting that money chances are you don’t mean anything yeah I don’t I mean it’s a cruel It’s a cruel world out there right now and

We’ve joked about it before that almost there are so few players in the world that can push equipment and I keep picking on the guy like Patrick kly isn’t one of them a lifestyle like golf YouTube is can Will can push more equipment than Patrick kley can yeah and

I would say it was even with some of my favorites like I love Colin morow just cuz he’s giving his endorsement to the Forgiveness driver it’s not like man I need to get out there and buy Colin Mora’s driver like whatever but yeah it’s a weird it’s a

Weird landscape it’ll be interesting to see how these guys how their schedules look if the defections continue um all of it because if it is the world that you that you seem to think Pat that in two years it is going to be a soft merger anyway somewhere

Between a soft and hard hard merger will have already be in Blossom and you’ll be able to play Signature Events if you have your exemptions you have nothing to worry about if you’re you know we assume the ryer cup shouldn’t be a problem uh you know I

Like to hope that those live guys are going to be allowed to play for the Internationals at the President’s Cup and that’ll be a barometer where they stand in like what nine months or something when that that’s going to happen oh for sure so I guess the

Biggest story of the year was live and the PGA Tour what would you say was the second biggest story PGA wise or even golf wise is the Ridder cup or is it just the year of Victor havin despite not winning a major I could argue it was Brooks kepa’s major those first two

Majors um with all the questions with if we were doing the show again we’ve been talking about that like episode two of the Netflix show where he is just I know editing can do wonders but like he even admit like that’s why he went to live like he had lost some self-doubt so

For like him to like just roar back like that that would probably be story two for me obviously the Ascension of of Victor and then the birth of ludvig and then honest selfishly for me with the Canadian open being at my club and that being ludvig’s first event that will be

Probably my long lifelong memory from the year but in the same way Pat I’m not kidding like I’ve a couple times had to go back into the room not in my house where I watch that jaguars Chargers playoff game and I get like a chill every time I’ve stepped in that room and

I got a chill every time I went to that 18t and thought about Tommy Fleetwood not like [ __ ] that bed so that kind of annoyed me but my club got a Canadian Heritage moment out of it with Nick Taylor so selfishly that’s like a huge pedestal for me but other than the live

Stuff it’s live connected it is John Rob I mean sorry it is it is Brooks winning the major answering All Those Questions instantly about himself and how a live player could perform in major championships well we have I mean Brooks was clearly the most successful live player of the Season despite gu winning

The regular season title I’d say that Bryson had a really good year for Bryson too it was kind of a it went under the radar a little bit because it was lot Liv related but he played pretty well in the majors despite not actually contending for a win but his team ends

Up winning on Liv that was the most live that I watched was that final event at the raal which was actually pretty cool but it seemed like people not necessarily Flo back onto Bryson but people are more open to Bryson this year like he lost some of the weight he

Doesn’t look like the Incredible Hulk anymore he seems to be having more fun with everything and he is the one who everyone can say why they went to live because of this because of that it was the and he even acknowledged that but he also said it was because you know he

Gets this influx of money he gets more time off it means he can create something down in Texas where he can help people do whatever and he’s making more internet videos now that are actually kind of neat of him hitting different shots and things like that it

Seems like he has embraced the time off and putting back the money and time back into golf more so than anyone else that went to live and I think that’s reflected positively for him yeah that’s wonderful I’m a Bryson fan I think he’s capable of of winning

Big events certainly on on the PJ tour it was great to see him come alive late last year um I have to say though Pat the most embarrassing golf thing I did last year betting wise and I’m so stubborn that I stuck to it because I’m

Just like a man of my word I guess I’m loyal or stupid a bit of both in many aspects but I proclaimed at the start of the year that I was going to bet Thomas Peters to win every single live event until he did and every single one he

Went off somewhere between 30 and 50 I don’t think he ever finished in the top five I don’t think I ever got a sweat like I mean I thought there’s no way there’s 48 guys that play this golf tournament Thomas Peters like I I think he’s pretty good so that was really

Stupid of me not to take away from your Bryson um point and I’m happy that Neiman got this late stuff around the world which should help him get into Majors I hope because that was a concern for me well until we get to the mailbag questions the final thing on live that I

Wanted to point out is they dominated the end of the Euro tour I think they won every event bur Easter won and Louie won and Neiman won in Australia I think they won five in a row to end that season that’s incredible uh that’s pretty cool and something maybe to look

For last year all the like high-end LIF players got it going a little little bit into the year and they’re in their new normal as to how to prepare for a season we even saw Cameron Smith get to the major and acknowledge at the Masters like yeah he didn’t maybe you know do

Have the like wintertime prep that he should have and he earned it with his year before but I got to remind myself that if I am going to bet Liv early in the year like that’s when the jabronies win man that’s when like Howell won that’s when like

Didn’t not who else Danny Lee won yeah exactly like that is when you can catch the jabronies I think but maybe next year it’ll flip I don’t know but that’s that’s my recollection of Liv is all their jabronies were winning early well didn’t a lot of those guys defect like

They played the PGA swing season and then went to live and then they ended up just coming out on fire on the live tour I don’t have a clue but no one has to feel bad for any of these guys not that they do Bubba Watson was courtsiding at

NBA game last night Pat and a$2 and a half million doll watch okay so they’re doing good all right so PGA wise Victor ludvig is there anyone else that you think really ascended last year in terms of being a real player like Victor was a real

Player but he took that leap you know with the performance that he put on Majors he won the FedEx Cup he won Jack tournament he was one of the major players at the Ryder Cup in Europe’s dominating Victory is there anyone else maybe not on his level but someone else

Who took the leap in your mind wam Clark yeah W Windam to a certain uh extent you could maybe categorize there uh gez the leap like a leap like that Herman won the Open Championship yet his stock did not go up or down it just remained the

Same and yeah I mean not to like piggyback through the mailbag but someone asked a question like will this player contend at a major this year and uh well to answer the first question I think maybe sah uh but that I don’t know if that’s just in our little bubble

Although my wife and that’s just because golf is on TV a lot in our house and he like you can acknowledge it like you just can’t deny it his name is different he looks different so he’s different he can stand out like other than the 10 guys that look the exact same walking

The Fairway but my wife’s like oh year every time he’s like that’s my favorite player so I don’t know what that means but yeah it does probably feel like it’s just our bubble right yeah it’s funny because my wife said the same thing about sah when I was watching she’s like

Who’s that guy like that’s sah the gala and he won in during the swing season too so he got that monkey off of his back so hopefully this season he can be one of the Breakthrough players but in terms of like can a player contend in a major and then I

Thought in my head like what does that mean because last year like how many players contended at the Masters three how many players contend at the PGA three how many players contended at the US Open like Windam Ricky and Rory let’s try to let’s let’s let’s try to think

About it in reverse how many people actually contended at the Masters it was ROM it was Brooks and Klay Victor no was Victor Victor that’s right that’s right and then even by Sunday it was down to a two horse race yeah but yeah because it was the double and everything bled

Together it’s kind of a blur but at some point Victor was like two you’re like holy [ __ ] but yeah you’re right two and a half but three and then the PGA was Conor havin and Brooks and then con didn’t Connor like eject himself at the end of Saturday but yeah sure he

Contended I remember his he was in that bunker on 17 he plugged his ball and that was the end of him and then Michael BL that was Saturday Michael BL is Michael block the biggest story of the year non live like honestly yeah I gu

For sure sure yeah you hate that guy so much dude people hate him so much more and like I’m mid I’m mid in terms of Michael block haters I swear to you Pat I am there are people that I couldn’t even compete with if I cared

Um and the US Open like I said it was wendam Ricky Rory right was anyone else there not that I can remember cam Smith lurked for a bit but no and then at the open it was just Harmon it was nobody so what does contending mean like

Sure like I guys can get a number so it’s hard to even quantify that question uh um but yeah soth would be my guy that maybe kind of felt like he broke out but that’s probably a lie yeah blocky Block’s the breakout star close I I

Would say that kind of lost in what Victor did because Victor’s up to the number four player in the world that H really did take a leap from being Fringe midcard player to like legitimate top tier player on tour yes he continues to take these leaps um

Though homa’s profile was already on the rise I I would consider that he probably made more gains in a mainstream sense so and then especially after the Ryder Cup you could be right Pat Uh you might have nailed it with hom well hom finally got

The top 10 in the major too he finally grabbed a that everyone forgets that he ended up T10 at the Open Championship but Patrick Reed was this way for a while too I remember cus that used to be his big thing on ragging on Patrick Reed

It’s like well the guy’s so good he can’t even finish top 10 at a major and then he ended up coming I forget what it was at Quail Hollow in 2017 then he just won the 2018 Masters that get the top 10 is so big for some of these guys that have that

Sort of stigma to them where yeah they’re fine they can win this event they can win that event they can win an elevated event plus see what they do when major time comes around so now’s done it at elevated events he’s done it at like classical venues and classical

Events and he’s done it at both the President’s Cup and Ryder Cup and now he’s notched a top 10 on in a major that maybe that he is the guy this year like if we’re thinking about firsttime major winners it’s him who should be we we should be looking up in that

Front yeah I mean there’s a few guys I feel like the the script could really flip on um does Hatton have like the mental capabilities to like do the last nine holes of a major well he’s on the good side of it like he can he goes black out

Hot sometimes he does we saw him do that at the Players unfortunately Scotty was already winning by like nine Strokes so it didn’t matter but he made some like oh yeah that that birdie he made from the trees on 18 at the Players to come T2 was one of the

Nicest like shots of the year um I’m trying to think what what do what would you say were like cuz that one stood out to me too as one of the shots of the year you know what honestly does stand out to me as much as you’re going to

Hate it and the blocky heads haters out there are gonna hate it was blocks up and down on the 72nd hole I can’t believe he did it I don’t hate it I don’t I don’t hate it I I I get romantic thinking about it it’s just like

Everything that comes after and like the I’m yeah whatever um no and blocky got a hole in one man yeah but that wasn’t the way like that happened that was fun but like the actual pressure of getting up and down short-sided at a major championship on the 72 hole with him

Knowing that if he doesn’t get it up and down he doesn’t get his automatic spot back again next year like that was real drama like that was a good story I would say Tommy’s Tommy’s that like driveable t-shot at the Ryder Cup to clinch it

That was uh one of the better shots of the year but fresh in my mind so Nick Taylor’s pot is definitely on The Boll for like moments of the year um and then I’m sure there’s so many great shots that don’t factor in winning at all that are kind of just blurred

Together I I can give you one McIntyre’s approach on 18 in the Scottish open to win the Scottish open was amazing and then Rory won the tournament from underneath of them unbelievable yeah that sequence was that yeah see it’s stuff like that that it doesn’t matter like you still get

Romantic about golf it doesn’t matter who’s on what what tour and a lot of people watching this everyone watching this Pat like obviously we love the top players but like we’re talking to a bunch of guys right now who you know we get excited when it’s

You know we we get excited if it’s Sam Burns vers like Lowry like I don’t know we’re just golf losers like that from Kim like listen I know that I was highly invested in Eric Cole winning at Honda but Chris Kirk shot from behind the tree

Punch Out sticking it to a foot to win in that playoff was a pretty incredible sequence as well one that was very unprofitable for me yeah and how about me Pat you cashed it I didn’t bet Ricky Fowler to win I forgot you know what the

The two players that we that was such a that shot he looked like he was dead on 17 te goes birdie birdie I mean Rose Juan Dayan it was a nice you mentioned Kirk in that story there were a lot of really nice and and Glover like Glover

Won too much or it annoyed me in the end you can win once or twice I’m happy for you in said be like no dude like get out of here go away and then he did do you think Glover will win again this year I don’t know but yeah Ricky Ricky

Becoming a guy again like that’s when we said the stories of the year like shouldn’t that maybe be right there too yeah I would put Ricky and day kind of in the same thing because after they both won they kind of went away and there was a huge backlash against Ricky

As well that people were seemingly mad that he was good again after he was good again because a after the US Open then after the Detroit win like his season kind of went down the tubes a little bit he just wasn’t it’s like he got his win

And that was kind of it for him for the season and then people were still hyping him up like oh yeah Rick’s still really good it’s like no one’s saying Rick’s the number one player in the world but from where he was to where he got to

Which is why I have no worries about Justin Thomas moving forward because we saw spe go through the exact same thing a few years back where spe fell off the face of the Earth for two years he was still in all these tournaments and he

Made a run at the Masters one year but week over week like he was playing in Jabron tournaments where he wasn’t good whatsoever and then the same thing happened to Ricky now Rick’s back a little bit now Thomas obviously he won a major not this season past but the

Season before at Southern Hills and his season was bad in 2023 but it wasn’t like scraping the bottom of the barrel bad like spe and Ricky were in the years that they got bad so I have no worries about Justin Thomas coming back and being good again so I agree I don’t have

A worry but I would say being friends with and I feel like I said it at the time in the season the fact that he’s such good friends with Ricky and spe should give him confidence that everything is going to be okay because like look what happened to them

And look where they are right now or got back to but also being good friends with them could show Justin like and I said this at a point in the season where he hadn’t even hit rock bottom yet where was like you might not even be at Rock Bottom because knowing their experiences

It got worse and worse when we even thought like I don’t think it can get worse and it got worse to the point of Ricky not playing in Majors for full calendar years and obviously Justin is a completely different level of of player and multiple major Champion but yeah that

That friendship can work both ways what those guys went through because um it can get lower but I’m confident Justin would be back I am silly question who are you it’s probably unfair but like are you like are you nervous about zalot Torres being back that’s all that all seems to be

Injury related so as long as he can get himself right physically and it seems like his swing has to be changed because these back problems that he had that yeah I’m a little bit concerned but he seems to be a good enough I guess my biggest problem with him would be where

His swing was so unique and he I mean maybe he just needs to gain some weight because he’s so skinny that he has all that leverage all that torque if he’s not able to have the same swing can he adjust his swing on the Fly fast enough

To be able to continue to compete again but he is one of the few when the lights get the brightest the tournaments get really really difficult he gets better it’s the really easy ones that he seems to have problems with and I always think that’s a good look for

Players and this is such an unfair question but like if you had to pick on one of the better players in the world to have a Thomas or like dare I say a mini phenow season from last year like is there anyone who you’ve got like

An arrow going down on or like you don’t even think like that you’ll just see what the data says through the year I mean I I would like to be able to figure that out obviously and yeah I’m not smart enough I thing put you on the spot

And and like yeah I mean we can try to do it I honestly think so let’s try to do this we’ll try to come up with our top five up and down players going into the season so Five Guys that should be on the upswing five guys should be on

The downswing now a downswing I wouldn’t consider like if havin doesn’t win this year but still comes like third in two majors or whatever it’s a lot like say that morawa had a really [ __ ] year I think he came top five in two majors and

Had a win like how if that’s your Bad season that’s fine going forward like the expectations for you may have been a little bit out of control maybe I’m a part of that too because I think that he’s a really good player but at the same time like even last year like

Scotty won the Masters two years ago he didn’t win again after that like was that a did he have a bad nine months although he came second in like every tournament I would say no to a lot of that stuff so that would I would put

That on shots of the Year too cuz that so affected his year that one putt at the match play against Sam Burns to keep the match going he misses the putt from two feet and I don’t think he made another two-footer the rest of the year yeah you’re not wrong in shots of

The year you could create You could argue that like to an audience of golf fans and like make a strong case that that might have been as important a moment in the season as any and had a big impact on how Majors played out because he didn’t win any and that’s

Weird so if we kind of do the year in review and think about who the top five players were that ascended this year I think Vic is clearly number one would you put I mean is it you putting Ludwig ludvig at number two or would you say it’s like Ricky or day or

Rose I don’t know if it’s me putting LV number two but if you go look at odds to win tournaments next year i’ promise you ludvig’s ahead of anyone else I think you’re going to debate here um yeah but that I I don’t think that actually has I

Would put Windom like I’d have to put Windom yeah I think that’s a good call because he won an elevated event and a major I would put fer on that list I think we probably like days what did D Lucas Glover count I don’t know Keegan no because Keegan kind of

Got it back the year before in a lot of ways Brooks I guess Brooks got it back like cuz the year before I don’t think anything happened yeah Brooks won the Stella award for getting his groove back for 2023 and then probably Ludwick because he just kind of burst onto the scene and

He was amazing from basically day one day one and it didn’t matter the courses even the courses we were like I don’t think that’s a ludvig course fit like he made every course a course fit when you drive the ball that well and you hit it that far and you hit it that

Accurate every course is going to be a good course for you yeah and you can play bully ball on the shorter courses or at least try to and you know Pat I’ll say like again like I saw it firsthand early and that’s like saying pizza’s good or like saying a top prospect’s

Torus I would throw sunj onto that list I can’t recall him competing for an actual win in a tournament all year long yeah and I would consider Xander too maybe Pat although didn’t he do something late in the year Xander came second in the FedEx Cup like it’s tough

To say he had that bad of a year yeah that’s fair that’s a different category of bad obviously uh like f and JT were couldn’t believe like to not make the rider cup it went that bad for f now so Xander yeah he was second at the Tour

Championship he was second at Wells Fargo elevated fourth at the RBC Heritage yeah it was can I put it it was top he was top 10 at the Masters top 10 at the US Open 17th at the Open Championship and 18th the PGA Champion yeah that was rude I take that back that

Was but I I I understand you’re saying cuz he didn’t win so so I got a better one then and I think we forgot a guy from another tier for the other list okay but Eric Cole oh yeah Cole’s hole like this guy went to a new like you

Know tier of of um I mean from an unknown at least to me um cam young probably goes on on the bad list oh yeah that’s true like there were moments early where you felt like it was inevitable and we’re fine this year and then he just

Disappeared and it didn’t seem like the caddy switch that we all thought would like okay that’ll get him over the hump it didn’t um I’m still expecting big things though I will say that Taylor Montgomery went away very quickly after top fiving in every tournament for three

Months yeah he looked like he looked like what we thought Eric Cole was going to be or what young was the year before then he was just a disaster yeah I I um you’d see him drive and Putt you’re like wow you know you know who had a

Sneaky underrated year and like for his level of player but mainly because he he missed so many cuts and had so many bad performances but the highend for him was Seb straa well his he’s his ceing like he his hot is like white hot like it is uh

That was probably the round of the year right what he did to win that tournament to win John Deere I had John Deere but it was still an unconscious scorecard like an unheard of scorecard and the next week he or the two weeks later he ended up coming second at the Open

Championship yeah and he did okay got all the way to East Lake um so you’re right yeah I can’t uh and has he now piggybacked wins in back-to-back years yeah cuz he won the Honda yeah in 2022 yeah yeah so good for him I don’t know there’s I’m telling you the list of

Players that have wins in the last each of the last two seasons it’s it’s not a big list and it it lacks a lot of star power too I mean that did you see the rumors that Hatton was going to go to live I didn’t see anything more than it

Being a rumor it was rumored around the same time that feno was going to go to live and fow stepped in front of it and said that he’s staying on the PGA tour so I saw the rumors I haven’t seen anything more um you could argue after

Scotty Sheffer like Hatton had the best season without well sheffler won events Hatton didn’t win anything right yeah he came second a lot let me pull up fantasy National for a second like the every like every two weeks Justin Ray would tweet again that Hatton is the only

Player on tour who ranks top 20 in these four categories and it is literally the four most important categories Golf and he just couldn’t he never cracked it he lost me so much money this year it’s incredible he is my least profitable golfer of the year

Because I kept betting on him to win because he he’d come second he’d come third he’d come second it’s like okay it’s gonna happen never happened yeah and he’d be like okay full field Hatten 40 50 to one like I’ll take those stats and I’d rather bet him at that number

Than like 20 at a [ __ ] field or something like yeah and but he’s been bad at Majors right isn’t I mean he was okay he made the cut in all four majors this year he was 34th at the Masters 15th at the PGA Championship 27th at the US Open

20th at the open like Not Great by any standard he played really well in the elevated events he was like third at Wells Fargo second at the Players fourth at API sixth in Phoenix so the elevated I had him in our season long Fantasy Draft that we do every year he was I

Think my third or fourth round pick because we didn’t know when he was going to come over and he was coming off kind of a Down year and he just He piled up so much money by becoming top three in all these elevated events yeah that was he’d always suck

He’d always suck you in to do enough and I I do believe in him despite knowing that there is another side of uh the hardest be beat with him this year was actually the Canadian open because I had money on him and Tommy and of course Nick Taylor win Satur

It was it was Thursday and Saturday he was even on Thursday seven under or no sorry eight under on Sat or Friday even power on Saturday and eight under on Sunday and he missed the playoff by a shot yeah he missed I think he missed a

Putt on 18 I don’t know yeah he did he put He put himself in the short side bunker on 18 and couldn’t get it up and down for Birdie the things you remember like Tommy’s fivewood like just fire it into the stands man it’s fine yeah just fired into the stands uh

I will remember ROM taking my hom money by doing that exact same thing at Riv too when he remember he hit the ball out of bounds like into the the next parking I was on a streak of egregious drop so maybe get out of here no I don’t want to

Downplay him leaving Pat because in my opinion and I I do this when I mention him when every week we do a show that’s a full field and I I would always say like I don’t know to me rah’s the best player in the world I don’t know know

What the rankings say or I know it’s like splitting hairs but he was always the guy that if I had to pick between like the big one or two in a moment like Rah was always my pick so I don’t want to underplay him not

Being around hey he he rued golf for us for three months so I’m kind of glad to see him go take a hike pal he was no it was no fun to bet events because he kept winning yeah no and I go back and forth

Because I think one of the like you know I’m uh I’m a golf fan who likes to bet and I get caught up and I do I say like like a fan like a lot of my opinions are like emotionally driven or bias driven but

Um yeah you’re right the Gambler in me I guess I’m happy you’re gone and we’ll see how the books like react to that but the golf fan in me I don’t know it’s not good it’s not good we’ve mentioned almost everyone and doing a year in review here maybe we’ll split

This into two shows because we’ve gone 50 minutes on the recap and I haven’t talked about any of the majors yet for next year but we haven’t mentioned Rory yet in a year review he had a good year didn’t win a major but again for like he

Ended up becoming the face of the PGA Tour amidst all of the live stuff he was the one who had to take on the burden and I think that I I I feel like if I was him I would just go into hibernation for four months and not [ __ ] talk to anyone

Yeah that seems like it wouldn’t be a bad idea um yeah it’s all about those Majors it’s so weird because Pat we’re going back to Valhalla right and that’s was the last one in the dark versus Phil and versus but according to cus that’s actually a Phil theoretical major championship

Because it was unfair to Phil according to Tim yes um I believe yeah he W the open and that PGA but that was the old schu schu where the PGA was last so I feel like this is the last 21 it’s been a decade that’s insane I well one of the

Questions that we got was how many majors would Brooks have to win to be considered the best player of the past 15 years and it’s so funny to think about that it’s still Rory over that time I mean he probably has what three Majors over the past 15 years or

Probably all four of his Majors have come in the past 15 years just none have come in the past 10 yeah and then like Brooks also like that is just it’s unbelievable when you like unpack it uh crazy I don’t really have anything to say about Rory I

Expect it to be the exact same but maybe he’ll win a major maybe he won’t like I don’t envision myself betting on him to win any Majors but I’ll be happy for him when he does he’s really entered that zone where he’s going to go off at

Between 8 and 12 to one like it’s a testament to his consistency every single season that his odds don’t really drop like very rarely like even I think at the beginning of covid after the restart that maybe we were able to grab a 20 at them at a

Tournament that just so rarely happens that he is the most consistent of all of these guys year over year over year and he consistently doesn’t win Majors either so Al least you could probably bet on that yeah no like I don’t know I just I have nothing to say about the Rory

Discourse I feel bad for him because he is an emotional guy and he put his like he sort of put himself out there and in trying to stand up for and maybe it’s all like phony anyway but like what would Jack do what would Arie do and

Like he just you know it ended up being so embarrassing for him um he reminds me of presidents when you see a president go go into office everyone besides Trump who like come came out looking better somehow but like they age 40 years after their four-year term Rory looks like

He’s aged man he’s like five years younger than me he ain’t looking at these days yeah and I know Tiger’s always been getting older but like I see him now he looks like he’s aged a lot like even between last year’s Masters I don’t know his face looks really puffy or something

I don’t know what’s going on there but happy to have him back yeah I mean that would be one of the fun things for 2024 is that tiger can stay healthy we’ll get to see him five or six times which would be awesome so like what would the two events be Riv other

Than the majors assuming he could do them Riviera you know where he should play is Pebble I mean that’s a different conversation he should play at Pebble it’s elevated maybe he will maybe he will but I think I mean obviously Good Vibes at Pebble Beach historically

For tiger and it’s not a course not to say that he was having any problems hitting the ball off the te at the hero or even the father son event like it seems like he’s got his distance back but you know what what’s tiger is he

Going is he going to lead the field and strokes gained off the te unlikely but if you put a bunch of approach shots from like 150 and in at a historic course that he knows really well especially with California greens I feel like that’s a tournament where almost

Anyone can compete at Pebble Beach because of the size of the courses and some of the variables with the elements I think that would be a good course for him it might be too cold uh that North that time of the year like anytime that you see the temperature drop below a

Certain level just fade tiger completely yeah I didn’t think about the weather but my head was spinning thinking about all the other reasons why it makes sense and he can even glad hand one of the corporate partners that pays him $100 million to be tiger and do Pebble

UMES I don’t know be curious is Jay Monahan The Biggest Loser of 2023 yeah he has to be the Biggest Loser uh I want to go down the rabbit hole but like what a loser used 911 families as a shield because he was bad at his job and then

In the end went home with a tummy ache I have nothing nice to say and I didn’t even when others were I didn’t care I did not care who do you think was the biggest winner of 2023 in golf Victor hland I’m gonna say it was John

ROM okay you’re right but then I’d probably say it’s Brooks kka after ROM Brooks kka and John ROM well ROM ROM won a whole bunch of times became the number one player in the world won the Masters $700 million he won the most important tournament on earth when cuz

Why didn’t what was ROM about like pre agreeing live it was like no I’m a legacy player I’m a legacy player well what did he do um before agreeing to go to live he won the Legacy tournament that cements your legacy and unlike the other Majors we grow old with you now we

Grow old with John Ram unless he goes to jail like penguin um right that’s the only way out so you’re right John R but then I’d probably say second Brooks Kea third Victor those those would be the the podium finishers for best year in golf yes

Okay I think I can get behind that anything else you want to contribute about what happened this year what was your favorite tournament this year CU I I have an answer and I didn’t win money on of it and I G I gave the pick out and didn’t bet it for whatever

Reason and then it happened and I was like oh no the most fun that I had watching golf was Kurt kyama winning Bay Hill there was like eight guys tied for the lead the conditions were awful and he just made some big time shots and no one would have thought it would have

Been him on the ninth hole or the 10th hole when he got stuck underneath that tree branch and took a triple bogey the ability to Rebound in that size of tournament for being clearly the guy on the leaderboard that was not like all of the others in terms of world ranking or

History or what we project to be great skill that he was just able to overcome it like that’s what I love about Golf and that was a really fun tournament to watch okay so I’ve got a couple then um havin winning the memorial because there’s a moment on the back nine where

He just flubs a chip and like I know it like was a meme thing like he went on to win From This Moment uh and it was Denny McCarthy that he outd I guess I’m lucky it was Denny McCarthy uh the gorilla water ball like oh yeah the gillo ball going down that

Pathway as so many of us well in the community self-included Shadow Ben RZA trying to get gillo to a Finish Line um those are what those are what uh stick out to me a ton and I don’t know there was like a really in the Ricky wh like

There was a huge press pressure shot that he just stuck um that I was so happy and I didn’t have any money on it and I like jumped out of my chair happy so those would probably be what um yeah those would be what for for me non-canadian open speaking Yeah well you

Got to be there do people every time that they play your course now do they put the ball on the spot and try to make the putt a lot of people do but the PIN is isn’t always in the same place right so that’s true they they should always
