Until your given the #1 Role, we will never know. As a Goaltender, you wanna get back in there, after a good or bad game. Playing inconsistently, expecialy with a 3 goalie System, doesn't allow any goalie to get in a rhythm 🪘🪘.

He hasn't played enough games?…they're playing 3 goaltenders and Monty gets the most games. Seems he's #1 on Mtl. Two thirds of the league is better than Mtl and all 3 goaltenders have played top 10 teams. On a better defensive team, any of the 3 would have better numbers. Allen is to inconsistent, out of the 3 Monty is the best chance of a #1 in the NHL. Not saying he is but at best borderline, the team lacks defensively and doesn't have any 1st line forwards, one borderline 1st pairing defenseman so it's hard to assess. The state of goaltending isn't important until they have a better team in front of the goaltender, by then maybe Monty shines brighter, maybe Fowler or that Russian takes over, maybe they trade for a #1. Right now Monty could pass as a #1 on a strong defensive balanced team on a skill vs dollar value ratio but don't think any team would seek him out as a #1.
It's hard for me to judge, I have watched so many elite goaltenders play in Montreal that a "good" goalie seems insufficient. If your bar for number 1 goalie is Carey Price, then Montenbault is not a number 1. I think he is definitely good enough to play and win games. When the defense starts to mature his numbers will be better
I'm sure MSL has a plan on his playing and when. Hughes has a plan. He has 2 or 3 good prospects, hopefully a good goalie coach is giving them all pointers. I've seem Monty play spectacular hockey one game then be off the next. It was the same with the Panthers.
Hi Coach…I agree that he has not played enough, but I think he shows promise…plus the price for getting him was first rate.
