The emont Oilers tonight we’ll get to all of that big win last night for the oil over the New Jersey Devils they really shouldn’t have been trailing that game they controlled long stretches they had two kind of bad giveaways that led directly to goals they didn’t give up
Very much last night and then three goals in 69 seconds nice dry cdle David Adam Ernie what a power move by Adam Ernie is look there was the guy who led the Detroit Red Wings in goals in 21 where he played right wing well he burst down the right
Side and instead of just firing one of the pads makes that power move at the last second beats vanc far side and put the orders up five to three hey Conor Brown there’s a little bit of a note you want to stay in the lineup that’s how
You gotta play you know what Adam Ernie all he’s done is outscore the opposition when he’s in the lineup Ernie Hamlin and G have all outscored the opposition those are fourth line guys that’s huge for your team and it’s a note to the guys in the top nine need more guys out
Scoring the opposition now I understand that they’re not playing against the other team’s top players because they’re not the ord’s top players but Adam Ernie hey he’s five and three goals four goal against when he’s on the ice and he has a goal Conor Brown’s three and 12 and he has no goals
The Only Way Conor Brown’s getting in the lineup tonight is if d Ryan uh can’t play you saw Ryan get crushed into the boards in the final minute of the game and Sam G took that erant Vinnie dear a stick with about 13 minutes to go he didn’t return probably getting his uh
Chick his chicklets fixed so I would think you know we might see Sam G in the bubble mass tonight but hey if he can if his guys have played with a sore mouth that’s not a big deal now unless he you know needed a few root canals well
That’s a little bit different so we’ll see Chris noblock will be speaking at around 4 30 our time uh tonight so we’ll find out who’s in the lineup or not but there’s no you’re not taking Adam Ernie out of the lineup zero reason too why
Would you no reason to do it he’s earned to stay in the lineup and that’s how it should be and eventually Conor Brown will get back in and when he does he better make some notice and you know what I said yesterday benching Conor Brown it’s different that there’s a guy
Who’s played 14 minutes a night he’s played a lot his most common linemates have been dry Sidle and Kane so he’s basically being a top six guy it’s it’s easy at times for a coach to always bench the 13th forward 12th forward that’s easy seventh defenseman but when
You bench a guy who you know what I I can’t remember the last time Brown was healthy scratched maybe back as a rookie that sends a different message you know another guy who was on the verge of maybe getting a seat in the Press Box Ryan McLoud and what did he do last
Night scored 24 seconds in and then scored a late goal good for him his second two-goal game of his career and the seventh two-point game of his career too those have coming against the Devils so they needed some other guys to step up they did they needed Leon dry settle scored a big
Goal excuse me and he got one like the orders in the first two periods are you kidding me how many times you have a shot right in the slot and they’re like oh geez let’s try to pass it God it was infuriating so like they scored six
Goals they probably get at 10 last night they dominated the Devils for long stretches the McDavid line like I’ll disagree with Louis de bruss there’s no reason what do you mean load up dry C on McDavid right now you’re loading up McDavid by playing with himman and nen
Hopkins that Line’s killing it do what noblock did leave the Top Line together and figure out the other lines if they’re not going you move those pieces around the chessboard do not touch the first line tell there’s an injury don’t change it it makes zero sense to me to
Do it I’m sorry dry and McDavid aren’t producing more than Heyman nen Hopkins and McDavid are right now so don’t do it don’t switch it at all so it’s uh positive Friday it’s the final day of the month of giving final day and man we’ve had an unreal month

Donate their 7500 to the Christmas p and the 7500 we raise today because they’re short of money is going to go to adopt a team and you remember that awkward stage being a teenager still could be a great stage of life but at times could be awkward well imagine how difficult it is
If you’re in a family where you’re the teenager and you kind of age out from Santa’s Anonymous and your younger siblings you know they all get a gift and you don’t and that’s what adopted teen does is it covers off the teenagers and so they feel part of it at Christmas

Good’s such a picky eater it’s so hilarious it’s like you’re 10 still I don’t really like C cabbage rolls you don’t like cabbage rolls not really no God do you eat them though I try to avoid them the first year the first year I met the family I definitely indulged
And try to you know take it all and stride but now fraud you fake that you liked it to try to oh look at them he likes our food and now that you’re in the family you’re like I don’t like this what what is this cabbage garbage I
Definitely ate it I think they could probably read on my face that I didn’t like it but I wanted to be someone who tried it okay um year five now no I’ll be sticking to the the more traditional items yeah what what don’t you like about cabbage rolls I don’t understand
It well I don’t know I guess I just not the taste to to make it a very simple I don’t like the taste yes more for everyone else would have said the texture I could kind of get it that’s yeah that’s part of it too the taste so

Night obviously the the orders put on a pretty good show offensively and tonight they got the first place New York Rangers uh should be a good game and just give me your thoughts maybe kind of on you know the coverage of a Canadian team like I think this is the first time
Ever you’ve had a Canadian team all three games in a row on ESPN yeah shout out to our programming Department there’s a lot of hardworking people behind the scenes that s to make this happen well in advance and realistically like we were talking about this in studio we were uh doing the
Intermissions for the Oilers Devils game and it was Conor McDavid versus Jack Hughes and you know hockey isn’t necessarily at least among the major four Sports in North America uh the one that particularly puts a spotlight the brightest on Superstars yeah oftentimes you always hear about the logo in the
Front not the name on the back but at the end of the day Superstars matter and this that’s particular game you had McDavid versus Hughes and I asked the question of my analysts I said is this a situation where we’re seeing like the two biggest box office attraction the
Two most exciting players in the NHL today Jack Hughes definitely in the conversation Conor McDavid probably consensus number one for every hockey fan so for us to be able to have this New York trip uh exclusive to ESPN plus culminating with the Rangers like you said in America I think it’s a
No-brainer I think it’s something if it were up to me and it’s not it’s you know well above my pay grade but I would do something like this every year because that’s how important Conor McDavid is to the game I’m with you I think it’s something you have to do like you look
At basketball all their they play on Christmas and it’s all their Stars they focus on all the biggest names the biggest teams and and you got to do it to religiously I know sometimes you know it’s later games this be on the East Coast definitely the games are earlier
So you know everybody has a better chance to watch it and uh I know the orders as a team right now aren’t necessarily at the level that they would want to be overall although they are 11 and six in their last 17 and they’re coming around but McDavid is still
McDavid and he’s a he’s a pretty big draw and Jack Hugh is a pretty good player you know the Rangers got a you know Artmy panarin the orders also have dry cidal Adam Fox shest sturken like there’s some big names on the game on the sheet tonight yeah and the Rangers
Are among the best teams in the NHL and like you said like the Oilers are always exciting the one thing that I take away from I say this in just but half serious like I’m sure a lot of the heart trophy slart Ross Trophy candidates this season
Are happy that Conor McDavid kind of stumbled out of the gate this season if they can always get like a 13 to 14 game lead on McDavid every year I’m sure they’d be more than happy to receive that because he’s always gonna be the front runner for as long as he wants to
Be in the NHL yeah no 100 perc um you see a lot of the Rangers and it’s interesting like their special teams are dominant like they’re actually not a great five on five team they’ve been outscored uh 5857 five on five but with that defense core that kind of surprises me what
What’s kind of maybe not going as well as they would like five on five a lot of Rangers fans would not necessarily be surprised by that because this is the knock that has been against them for several seasons quite frankly even two seasons ago when they were really coming
On strong that was the big uh criticism was what will they do five on five especially in the postseason when five on five hockey often matters the most and so uh that that is it’s definitely something that has plagued the Rangers for many many years but like you said
Their special teams are dominant Chris krider in front of the net like that’s been uh something that we’ve seen for a couple of years uh and Chris krider’s really really successful at it he just became the third uh highest scoring Ranger of all time uh you know there
There’s a lot to be optimistic about as it pertains to the Rangers particularly this season and it starts in net iGo shurkin I know that there’s you know question question marks for every many teams around the league uh between the pipes and you know if you listen uh to
Kevin weeks who’s one of our analysts and also a newsbreaker uh he’s saying you know maybe the goalie Carousel will pick up steam ahead of the uh after the uh the the trade freeze the roster freeze of the holiday season who knows what will come the next several months
But there are definitely teams out there that are looking for goalies but eigor schurin is one of those and Jonathan Quick too by the way I mean what a one-w tandem he’s undefeated in the in in in regulation Jonathan Quick this season it’s amazing 90 and one he’s got a 926
Sa percentage he shut out the orders back in October like Jonathan Quick’s numbers there was a lot of people that wondered oh man can he still play and he’s gone to New York and and he’s looked unbelievable uh for them and shurkin like I was looking at sherin’s
Numbers in December he’s got an 888 say percentage uh now his last two games uh at least by the numbers I didn’t watch him but by the numbers you know maybe being two of his better games is he showing signs of maybe coming out of this because for sherin’s level for the
Most part of this season he’s been below it yeah certainly like and I think that he set a very high bar for himself it looks like this is a um hole that he can certainly dig himself out of I would say that he’s definitely exhibited signs of
Improvement and uh or for by his standards in the in the immediate after effect but uh yeah certain I I I don’t think it’s a like a huge concern uh among the Rangers it would be more of a you know okay we we’re seeing you know slight improvements here and there each
Game uh you know each practice Brick by Brick I think that uh they’re trending in the right direction Aro Cal joins us uh breaking down uh the orders taken on the Rangers also the the league you know you cover the league for ESPN you’re doing a lot of different games and this
Is this has kind of been a weird year when you look at hey if they want parody man this is the the ideal thing for parody the uh the New Jersey Devils the Edmonton orders teams at 100 points last year both currently on the outside looking in as is Tampa Bay uh Carolina’s
Just squeaking in give me your thoughts on the capitals they just keep winning despite can’t score goals but man they don’t give up many goals and Obie finally scored last night so you wonder if maybe he starts waking up a bit 14 games without a goal you didn’t expect
That to happen coming into this season it was really going to be the bridge year for him to break the record next season and now we’re wondering there’s a little bit of Doubt whether we he will even get to the point uh at all whether
He will get to that um that the grety uh total at all but I think it’s still GNA happen I’m holding uh hope that we will see that you know once impossible record broken and you could see it on his face too it wasn’t even a one-time goal in
Overtime he got the puck he had a couple seconds to think about it he was in his office and he risked it home for the winner by the way um the image afterwards because preceding that they were on the power play in overtime and right before that there was a scuffle in
The net between Tom Wilson and Elvis M lein and M lein was punching him with the Blocker on he got a penalty as a result and that led to the capitals power play but the image whoever took that photo it’s one of the alltime awesome hockey images definitely of our
Time like it’s incredible all of the Capitals players are celebrating and every single one is looking at Elvis Mur lein leaving the ice what it it’s like one of those Goosebumps like wow what a shot kind of images I highly if you haven’t seen it yet I highly recommend going the
Capitals posted it on their social media definitely go and check it out yeah it was it was a unique post and it’s kind of interesting listening to and I get that Ms Le’s like hey Wilson gets him off his game and all that stuff but man like things are going so wrong
In Columbus right now like it is uh it is tough times I I got it’s only a matter of time I would think there’s going to be a change maybe not till the end of the season for the general manager but you know this season could

It and it’s much easier yeah I didn’t have too many people to uh to pick up for so that’s okay okay so today I’m I’m gonna talk about because you you obviously focus a lot on the mental side of of sports and preparation and all that stuff for for athletes and um so
Connor Brown’s season hasn’t gone the way he would like I think that’s you know cap an obvious thing to say and coaches they’ll work with athletes especially veterans who you know who they get a little bit longer of a leash and there was other things he was doing
Okay for a while but then eventually it just you know what he wasn’t scoring he was getting outscored uh then he was you know had some few bad giveaways in that Islander game so he’s healthy scratch last night and you know the mindset for an athlete and I was looking back I
Couldn’t find the last five years when it was healthy scratch he might have been healthy scratch as a rookie it was hard for me to tell because you know maybe he was banged up I didn’t know so but really as an established player hasn’t been healthy scratched so it’s a
New thing and we all know like it’s easy to say well you can’t pout and you can’t Sol because if you do that you’re gonna be done but it’s easier said than done you’re competitive so what are some things you’ve dealt with athletes where the season isn’t going the way they want
And you got to refocus during the year it’s different if the season ends and then you got all offseason to refocus because after a while then you’re like you’re working out you’re feeling good it’s easy but now you’re in the middle of it so what are the things that brown
Has to do mentally that can help him when he gets back in the game well number one I think this is the greatest gift he could be given and it’s not just because it’s Christmas it’s just he will learn so much from this and learn more
Than if he’s winning and one of the things we’ve talked about is doing a reset go back to the fundamentals go back to the basics go back and just make everything simple and you know it’s that acronym keep it simple stupid yeah but it’s just kiss yeah and it’s just go
Back to when it was working what were you doing and if you can look back go backwards go from now the past eight nine games and go okay what wasn’t working where do I need to improve and when you go back to the Simplicity part
Of it is there’s a lot of Clues there they’re not going to be obvious at first that’s the challenging part right there but is go back you you you got to go back to when it was working what was my mindset like what was my physical training like what was my schedule like
What was my calendar like and how much time was I spending doing the mental preparation was there times was there gaps was there holes was I doing it every day and typically what I find is there’s always one or two things that slip off and we don’t do them because
It’s going so well that it’s working so well why do I need to spend more time working on it it’s not that you need to do it consistently every day and that’s why I I say to my athletes you got to be consistently consistent every day and there’s something small that is missing
From what was working before and it’s just you got to figure it out there’s Clues game one was a clue game two was a clue game three was a clue and so on but we didn’t rarely take the time to re-evaluate it now what about because things for him like you lose confidence
That every athlete does at times even we saw with Conor McDavid on a small scale earlier this year so Conor Brown he hasn’t scored a goal since March of 22 because you know then he went the final 13 games or 14 games of that year then he comes starts the next season plays
Four games gets hurt that’s it’s a whole calendar year now he comes to Emon it’s a new team there you know obviously people know the contract even though his cap hit is only 775 there’s the bonus overages so there’s more pressure and now you’re up to Christmas time and you
Haven’t scored like that feeling of scored there there’s even though you play well right it’s probably like you can race great all the time but if you don’t win right you’re kind of like oh God eventually it it gets you know what’s normally happening you’re trying too hard yeah all you’re thinking about
Is win win win I gotta win I gotta score I gotta win I gotta score and that’s when you screw up yeah you do and it’s like just go back go through the drills Master those drills where are the deficiencies and what could you do to
Improve get the puck up right where can you improve and those are the points that you need to start thinking about is forget about scoring is where can you improve and where can you improve 1% 2% just a little bit more yeah W you can and how about overthinking it like can
You spend too much time on video if you’re a guy like brown I think you can I think you can in any sport I think there should be a certain amount of time set it do it when the clock runs out that’s it that’s all okay and then make the time time where
You are make it really great not good make it really great make it the best number one be present if your mind’s wandering it’s like well that’s you’ve just lost a bunch of time but make every minute count of when you’re on because that’s going to translate onto the ice as

Think it started in our warm-up we had a lot of kids who just like warm-up was fun but they weren’t and our warm-ups were only two minutes so it’s not like I’m ask them to warm it’s not the end each other on warm out for 20 minutes
Two minutes three maybe right so you’re just like and you know they’re not really paying attention you know kid’s going in line and the next one’s supposed to go and he’s standing there he’s not watching and I’m just like there’s you’re not ready and so first

After a terrible start and you know I thought both Alberta teams weren’t as bad as their early records were um you know there’s a lot of me teams in the west which means the do still open when you look at I think Arizona’s an eighth and they’re on Pace for 89 points right
So there’s still there’s lots of opportunities for Emington and Arizona and Nashville and Calgary and Minnesota um you know what have you seen lately from the Flames that gives you believe that you know what hey maybe they could stay in the run or should they even stay
In the Run would they be better off trading guys yeah you know what I’m gonna go two two places here first of all I’m gonna go to the Blue Line no hannahan and Chris tanip are really good defenseman and and Noah is 26 Chris is a little bit
Older but you know Craig Conroy knows what a good top four looks like they have weager they have Anderson tth and Hanan that’s a really good strong top four uh blue line and and so yeah you can look and you you you can say we’re going to trade Noah Hanahan and you can
Look and we can trade Chris tanif and you look at what the return can be I know one thing you can’t find players like no Hanahan that are 26 years of age uh and and are going to be able to carry play in the way that he does and to me
I’d be sign I’d be trying to sign unless he doesn’t want to sign there I’d be looking to try to sign him and tantha would be on a shorter ter because you you want some you want some protection for your younger players and and you also don’t want Anderson and rager to
Get overextended there’s a two there’s a two-sided equation here it’s not just putting younger players in there but now you extend those two guys and your team becomes weaker so you know like if they trade Hanan and they trade Tannis they’re going to be looking for guys

255,000 we had two companies uh um do it a few weeks ago and uh 16,000 another week and 15,000 another week so it’s utterly amazing so uh uh thank you thank you thank you very much so $164,800 to help out various Charities adopted teen holiday hamper Christmas Bureau Santa’s Anonymous operation
Friendship senior society and the the Bright View elementary breakfast program um trust me those Charities and all those people uh you made a huge difference in people’s lives uh whether you were donating whether you’re giving the package whether you’re just listening and uh and allowing us to talk

You look at his number his goal share and the things that he’s done and it’s not like he’s playing 15 minutes a night you know Adam Ernie has has delivered you know he’s he’s I think people want you know prospects to come up but he’s not playing enough really to bring up a

Being outscored and and they’re shot they’re not dominating teams five on five where they kill teams is on the Special Teams and so the orders can’t take many penalties tonight and uh their power play is going to have to be good for sure against the Rangers but five on
Five like emont would W hey do what you did last night not a lot of penalties in that game I think that actually benefits the orders as good as their PowerPlay is their penalty kills still not on the level of the Rangers I if you’re the orders I think you you’d almost rather
Play more five on five tonight if you could yeah and they gave up I think three five on five goals last night but scored a bunch more than that the orders at like you know I’ll I’ll give I’ll give the new coaching staff credit even even in the wobble games they’ve been
More settled at five on five and you need to be but I I mean if they can keep it five on five and and they do tend to take some penalties maybe that you don’t want them to but I I as they build and as they get you know I’m looking forward
To seeing where they put hallay and how McLoud looks on this line I I I think that you know these aren’t the McTavish days where they were button down five on five and they might as well have declined the power play but if they can
Get back to being a team that is really good at five on five we know the power play eventually will be great again uh penalty kill has been an issue geez I I mean who’s the last great penalty killing team on this or coach on this
Team I I don’t I think they’ve had somebody since mclen maybe Tipp it but it’s kind of been hit and miss a little bit the last few years oh it has been ever since like under Woodcraft they they had like a 25 game stretch at the end of the year
Where their penalty kill I think was like 86% but other than that overall if you look before it and after it it’s been an issue it’s it’s getting better uh there’s no question about it but the one thing Mike Smith was excellent on the penalty kill and and M cin was too
They had the first and six best save percentages on the penalty kill over a twoyear span like um it’s something that I think gets gets overlooked a little bit at times um well the other thing about Mike Smith is look at his save percentage would you like that
Now oh oh so funny people oh he’s terrible I’m just like what what are you talking about he had a 923 one year had a 9 you you’d be Oiler fans would be begging on his feet right now to have a goalie get that from that how how sick

Might be sending picker down bringing in uh an expensive go tender uh in terms of asset cost and getting no better performances like it’s every everything is like Shades of Gray in the go tending Department except for maybe four or five guys at the top end and that’s why when
People get mad at Stuart Skinner want them shipped out of town I’m like you need two goalies and he’s definitely going to be one of your two no matter who they get yeah the orders are you know the I think the key for the Oilers right now if you’re an Oiler fan watch
For that defensive structure they are really but trying to batten down the hatches if they can do that then I think that this team you know has a way better shot no matter who they get in terms of goal tending and I don’t see a goalie out there Jason that is available
