01:20:44 Trophy ceremony

Note the date June 4th 2022 it’s ladies finals day at roll on caros a day to appreciate and enjoy the future and the present of women’s tennis eish fion has only just turned 21 years old already Victorious here 2 years ago the world number one is on a

34 match winning streak she has won her last eight finals without dropping a set top seed at present almost unbeatable Waiting for Shion in the final is Coco GF this is the biggest match of the 18-year- old’s career despite her tender age GF has already lived for years with the expectation of being the sports future Champion today that expectation could be realized surely this won’t be the last

Time these two meet in a grand slam final but that’s for the future for the present it’s fante versus golf for the coupe Suzanne Longland C go Reuben [Applause] Tech without doubt the favorite but this could be a decent contest those players have a bunch of flowers on their little stand next to their seats have to hope that neither’s allergic to them has been Known they probably would have checked that they they probably would every year the grasscourt season brings out at least one person with an allergy they take a tumble and start sneezing the Umpire for this final is Damian dumus one of the leading French umpires singles finals always used to be

The Preserve of Jack Dorfman he did them for about 20 years the head of UMES here and from a byone era behind with the two kids please and after just the two [Applause] players thank you in the middle please thank you perfect right so we have the net machine

25 seconds between points I call the score I start the clock you know where the clock is both big screen and the two screen in front of me towels in the boxes let’s say you have the red color and you have the gray one fine any questions no it’s going to be your

Choice rangos or 22 uh 22 please 22 22 22 I’ll serve serve stay have a good match thank super mer so golf winning the toss and choosing to serve let’s have a look at the conditions it’s the warmest day of the tournament so far predicted to be up to

27 even 28 and that’s where we are now very little wind this feels like a proper Roland garos final do have that at Roland garos the time of year means that we often get a first week it’s a little bit cool sometimes rainy it warms up towards the

End okay let’s have a look at the two finalists who will be competing for the coup suzan longen longen arguably the first Superstar of tennis International Superstar EA Shion she’s the top seed world number one 21 years old four days ago born in Warsaw now lives in rashen 1 M 76 is

5’9 hot favorite since the start of the tournament she’s on a 34 match winning streak she’s won 50 of her last 52 setso just 29 games here this year she’s posted 16 six love sets she has Eight titles to her name five of them this year four of them at 1,000 level which

Equals the record held by Serena Williams for the number of 1,000 level events in a year her last defeat was against Elena ostap Penco in Dubai in February on a final sem tie breakas girls semi-finalist in 2018 he lost that to Casey MCN who went through to an All-American

Final come back to that in a minute rout to the final just the one set dropped against young 8 hours 43 minutes and that’s our coach Thomas vovi working with him since the start of the Year estan go world number 23 that’s going to go up to 13 or8 depending on today’s result

She’s the 18th seed 18 years old born in Atlanta now lives in delr Beach lived all her life in Del Beach 1 M 75 well 5’9 to be measured in feet and inches this is the eagerly awaited first Grand Slam final for golf since she got

To the round of 16 Wimbledon at the age of 15 she was the girls Champion here in 2018 meeting her doubles partner and good friend Casey mnal in the final she got to the round of 16 at Wimbledon in 2019 us opened third round that year round of 16 Australian in

2020 quarterfinals Roland GTH last year Wimbledon round of 16 last year so measured progress this is her fourth play Court event of the year she won two matches in Madrid and Rome but this has been by far her most successful she has a decent clayt pedigree that was her

Route to the final she’s taken 8 hours 36 minutes so only 7 Minutes less thanon as little as makes no difference he has two titles one on Clay Palmer 2021 and one in ly on the hard courts of Austria indoors 2019 she has four doubles titles including two plus two

Times she’s been a runner up including the US Open last year now if we look at the head to-head Fon has won both their previous matches in Rome last year 7663 and in Miami this year the even last year before Shon had got on her tremendous run it was still 7663

So that suggests to me that this will be a tight one and Goff still in with a Chance of doing the double because she’s in the women’s double final she and Jessica bagula play the French women Caroline Garcia and Christine movich tomorrow morning 11:30 Paris

Time will go by then be the champion Luc what do you what’s your hunch about this final I I do believe that Coco go has definitely got a chance I think you know the way that she’s played the the big thing that’s been impressive is how she’s dealt with those key moments in

Matches not dropped a set and there’s there’s been uh some tight sets that she’s had to battle through her defense has been incredible and uh the forehand has definitely improved as has the second serve the forehands been effective on the clay the ability to get it to jump up and with these conditions

It’ll be interesting to see how Shon Tech deals with that as we know she’s a player that pushes close to the the Baseline I think a lot depends how she deals with the occasion she’s going to have to start well because if you let Shon run particularly in finals then

It’s going to be a tough ask the uh last eight finals she’s not dropped to set he only lost 28 games in those eight finals go go go ready the women’s singles final at Roland garos 2022 golf to serve against fon Zer Count nervous couple of points for gol not really swinging through any of those shots in the first point and that was a horrible double fold totally understandable though I mean it was similar in the semi-final but she shook off those nerves quite [Applause] quickly it’s a better

Serve let’s not assume that Shon won’t be nervous it’s a big final for her doing up her shoelace she has got a bit of a reputation over this fortnite for delaying her [Applause] opponent was a good serve certainly if we think back to that match where Sean take lost last year to

Zachary a lot of sary serves were directed to the forehand it was a a really good tactic Very nervous start by GF she swung through that last forehand but went a good meter Beyond font’s Baseline interested to see when the uh coin toss happened she chose to serve didn’t she sometimes you feel a bit nervous then it’s maybe better to return you can swing through the returns and protect your

Serve forg go she wanted to stay positive and and back herself that’s back fired [Applause] Serv Fant Tech One Love [Applause] Cel counts Up yep sa help she’ll be aware that sh’s going to be coming at her with the forand and anticipated here gof and positioned herself a little deeper behind the Baseline gave it more time to be able to hit this backand a well [Applause] reached an excellent volley go doing exactly what she needed

To here trying to get it to dip down too much air time on it needed a bit more spin one did well though it’s good [Applause] touch a couple of backhand winners down the line from golf she feeling more comfortable on that Wing than on her forehand

Well the forehand there’s more Top Spin on it so she does need more racket head speed so obviously if you are a bit tight it’s more difficult to to Really release through that [Applause] shot has served well all tournament Tri onch she’s good numbers behind both first and second

Serves took 1530 in that service game encourage a game for her we saw there the work that she can get on the the serve gets it to kick [Applause] Up go love two [Applause] can for nine count [Applause] up like her feet were working right oh she’s tight is evident some forced erors already she is firing on all sers SC get the on te she is and this is a really good play just going back in behind

Go line offline tactic really does catch your opponent out called the go a little lucky on that one well within the Hitting Zone of shant to the break point for a double break that was an excellent serve really good serve again to the forehand know that Trion be looking to

Just cheat her Court position to move around so it can be smart just to go straight at it well played serve from Goff got the range is she on the forehand flying off the strings there and actually makes it easier for Shante because she just trades punches knowing

That at some stage goof will make the error good tactics by G drilling the ball straight at [Applause] fontic fully off the body drifting long have one that go Cory as Dad and Coach to Coco her real name is Corey spelled slightly differently she’s universally known as [Applause] Coco [Applause] oh [Applause] [Applause]

Number three number four in this game yes she’s made it one took a little T to on the smash she was didn’t quite get in the right position underneath it and gave go another chance to get it pter and it’s the backand again sees the space oh

Was a better played point from go he was dictating where the ball was going just overhook that forehand thought maybe she should have gone into the the forehand side rather than the backhand she left quite a lot of court open needed to have been better fifth break point

Signs and that go was getting into it the shame is she didn’t win a game so that will keep the nerves double break for three love first set so what do you do to get rid of nerves it’s not easy to prepare for an occasion like this you’ve never been

Here before it’s it’s a huge occasion and although GF has been talking about not really feeling overly nervous focusing on one match at a at a time you never know till you step out onto the court how you’re going to actually feel and deal with it and at the moment

There’s evidence that she is tight which is totally normal I think tonch is a bit tight as well again you know it’s a huge match for both of them and I guess you you got to keep moving you you’ve got to try and use your breathing you got to

Try and keep positive as soon as you start getting static or or not breathing then you’re not getting the oxygen in your body you’re not going to be able to release [Applause] Fon serving three love first set [Applause] Gil got to find a way on the board though certainly help [Applause] out stay out of his [Applause] Chapil gall [Applause] Zal much better G as always trying to get behind Coco 146k that one cly released that time that’s a good sign for her try and get some more consistency out here not like that I mean it is a an area she’s had an issue with beforehand but it’s definitely

Improve the trouble is when you are tight and nervous it’s going to show up maybe she can afford to relax for the rest of this set but love four the chances are it’s gone she just needs to get into the game love four g [Applause] z call goil off the [Applause] G hold

Up lean king and the blue in the front [Applause] row taking a very deep breath there go This is a very important point for golf no footw work in that g all the arms I know I [Applause] know it is a big game any game that she can get will definitely help her relax better play you can see some way sh is has backed off just looking to be

Consistent aware that Goff is missing quite a bit these the openings for go yes yeah he fin to won a game that will work wonders for her so a double break do has opened her account sh on at 4-1 first set Let’s go back to the nerves I mean does it work for some players to just try and kid themselves it’s one all on a practice match well I mean you’ve got to try different things the the biggest thing is you’ve got to prepare for okay if I do feel this and then obviously

Different techniques uh are all around trying to get the body to move because obviously if you are tight you tend to freeze the feet don’t work you can’t then be free through your shots so you are going to miss more you tend not to breathe as well it’s tough though when

You get out there and it suddenly hits you it is more difficult to then deal with it so sometimes feel that a grand slam final is easier than say a a cup final because you’re at least playing on the same court you’ve played on all the way through yeah it’s it’s still tough

You’re going out there this is what you dreamed dreamed of you suddenly realize you could be on the brink of of winning a grand slam and then when you’re out there it can just hit you on Tech 4-1 first [Applause] set is alas counts [Applause] out well forced by

Gol hitting her back hand really well G at H this is an aggressive shot ability to really lean through it R there on the the left next to Cory candy and so coach that helps her as well go [Applause] moano hold that’s well done a big shot the forehand and she loves

That crosscourt normally when you serve out wide it’s to open up the court well I think if you know you can go both ways and it’s tough for your opponent they generally have to to just pick one way or the other point for 5-1 for oh what a

Shot absolutely on the junction of sideline and Baseline golf just going to wipe the mark out it’s too good I mean huge ball strike in there the best it was evidence as well G trying to get into the backand side of Shri onch where you can sometimes get more errors and

Obviously she can’t produce the same amount of pace that she does off the forehand side aaging at quicker speed than Nadal has so far this tournament a lot of work on it golf one five well play the mat is turn to come to life it really

Is great movement here from go Z the way that she just positions herself so she can read where Shion puts the ball nicely balanc slid into that perfectly it’s Go’s nerves have eased so have fantes It’s Made For Better tennis but that Gap is still big 5-1 oh pepp on the backhand go going to the twoand of Shion as much as she can I think you got two tactic obviously that’s the the weaker side we’ve seen more errors off off that side less winners sometimes if you go fast into the forehand of

Shon well played that can also be a good tactic because Fon does cheat that Court position she’s eding over towards her back side so she can get more forehands really seen go look to do so far 31 minutes played two set points for Shante this is getting good much

Better playing with much more freedom and looking to be really aggressive G she doesn’t get herself back into this set will mean that she’s going to start the second set much better than she did this one some good t still set point the off to second time it’s off

The first and was punished for it interesting idea first set has gone toon she takes it by six games to one Cody and Cameron pleaseing so with the new ball starting the second set interesting tactic from [Applause] Golf slice with lots of air she meant that thought she was trying to keep it lower wasn’t keen on Pula slicing when they played good body [Applause] out guys it hold Let prom rasma tournament director go for gone the wrong way then you got the air off this y Tech bracket gave her a bit more time the fact it hit the top of the net just jumped up break points for goth start of the second [Applause] set

Oh Das game for sh go breaks lead one love second set something we well something we talked about before the match started was the power of the Eon forehand and look where she’s been going into the forehand of Coco go it’s a big wind up on that shot for the American and what

It’s done is forced 20 errors 32 points W by Shon in that first set 20 of them coming from the forehand side of Coco go so that’s a strategy I’m sure she will continue With f is still at her chair G ready to serve this is where there should be a shot clock really if you want players to go straight through after the first game put a shot clock on them it’s now started but there’s no point starting a shot clock when they’re both at the

Behind their baselines golf one love second set [Applause] G zil sense the crowd are getting behind [Applause] her want to see a final set yeah well played she shoots that backand up the line [Applause] effectively flatter finds the target quicker able to expose go a few [Applause] times it’s a short ball

Again handling that at the [Applause] moment the brothers front missed them got the best seats [Applause] yeah Gall the [Applause] Pump okay it’s pepper in the back hand it’s working for C go men toil she’s looking a different player now Coco go shaking off the nerves that we St saw at the start of the match [Applause] Love two well handled complete shank from Coco go g zil landed quite deep in the fiant court can see he’s got that ability just to get right over the top of it that’s so good working well that play ability to get the smoother off the kick serve pushes go back and

Again backand up the line it seems a safer shot when she goes up the line all right now nice p a good sign of how goff’s feeling excellent touch from her our quick Shon is excellent use of the court [Applause] from best game the set still a breakdown he’s made contact golf leading

2-1 second set oh they’re going to turn on the lights there’s been a fair bit of cloud cover come over it has got a bit dark but Hason I think ask the Umpire if that could happen I mean we always used to play in this kind of weather without any wor

Because there weren’t any lights the big difference is because of the design of the stadium the roof covers about a third of the Arena so actually the president’s box end is quite dark the commentary box end isn’t a problem at the end where Fant is sitting that is relatively Dark maybe out of the chair a little early because they’re going to put the lights [Applause] on well she was looking at the um at the clock because that had the countdown and now it’s come to zero nothing’s happening now shion’s out of her chair now the lights are on there we

Go and it is a more even light Goff at 2-1 let CLE [Applause] service [Applause] how close fante was to getting that one because she shaped up for it quite early now fion has gone back holding up playen quite a bit it does doesn’t it fairness on that occasion the crowd were doing their rhythmic clapping G something Pula wasn’t happy

About she she certainly wasn’t I think she had good reason to be C count what go did not need some way on the first serve all Go’s efforts at the start of the second set they been wiped out by that game has anything to do with the lights well I was going to S it was a loose

Game I I don’t know whether it it’s the lights or whether it was just the fact I mean she came out of the chair quite early I mean she was moving around and then she had to go back and sit down and whether it just broke her Rhythm slightly F two all second

Set yes he made [Applause] it on the line h zil a a shift here seemingly back in charge again g z just tapping her head as if to say not thinking problem is she plays so much on instinct good game byon Tech turning the screw here a setup 3-2 in the [Applause] second

Really good couple of games there for shant Tech in the ball with such Freedom we’re seeing a few more errors from her looked a little tight seem to be the case now and again we know what a front runner she generally is particularly in finals amazing her

Record in them having lost that first final she played in Lugano she’s won every single one since eight of them in a row she’s on a run of winning five consecutive ones of course this year just amazing that she’s only lost 28 games in those eight finals it is yes

It’s very impressive but she could get nervous with Insight of Victory here so go has to keep it close Gol 23 Second set for hand from Go as interesting is that she’s really slowed her serve down first serve 132 km who saying she has to serve well three double fault so far but first serve is just not having any penetration not the speed that we’ve been used to seeing this fortnite that was a better one 182 much better

G she’s actually served bigger in terms of the speed on both first and second has been chion who’s been more [Applause] Effective again holding up GF receiver supposed to play to the server rhythm go going serve to that backand she must be prepared for the the flat backand down the line 1540 [Applause] Well that point was really from the moment return was hit down the line’s backand was very much hit in Hope yet to to win a point behind a second serve in this second set GF 33% for the whole match so fch been ruthless returning the second serve gol

Could almost do with the heavens opening and they’re being a break for about 10 minutes while they close the roof fion 61 42 the [Applause] Aans sorry that’s phenomenal defending turning defense into offense from Fon it really was because Goff came at it I thought she might have got herself in trouble with the back hand pretty close to her able to keep it in and very good at the net there stonch

The shot clot fairly close Four 3 two [Applause] G very soft serve 127 had a bit of kick on it but it’s within G’s reach maybe took her by surprise extra points on te doing really well in those moments most of them oh the Gap was open offer picked the right side just

Needed to go over the Neton busy moving back to cover the cross [Applause] SC oh that’s so five games on the run for zon and she’s just a game away from her second Grand Slam title 5-2 second set oh we thought it might be close Lucy well we did at two love and really felt

Well on the back of the first set both of them were playing well in particular G who had been struggling with nerves through the majority of that opening set and then started the second set really well took that bathroom break and seemed to clear her head I don’t know it just

Seemed as if that got broken when they sat down at 21 she was up out early and then obviously had to sit back down to wait for the lights to come on and just from then on in it’s really just been about chonch yes while we can regret the lack

Of a contest we can admire the way this woman has taken women’s tennis by the Scruff of the neck really asserted herself stepped up when B retired [Applause] please Goff serving to stay in this final 25 second set count [Applause] zero comes up Well gol couldn’t have played that point much better her best jots were coming back and coming back deep they were you can see she’s trying to hang in this she’s looking to be aggressive but the defense has been excellent from Shon Tech 1530 po that’s Vander sitting with Jill Moro let [Applause]

Promise 190k that serve do is ready to serve she’s being held up by shant who again went to her shoes problem with the shoes might be a it’s well struck gal golf was not expecting that at all well just Ed the power of golf serve can go back more powerfully than it served

[Applause] A dribbled over it would have been brutal on Coco goof fortunately for her it stayed on the pole side second point for [Applause] 35 y well there is always time certainly is we know how difficult it is to get over the line the crowd are getting very much behind the

American they want more of this final that’s what they’re playing for the cops is and longlin 65 minutes this final has gone Shion serving for the title 5-3 second set G [Applause] Zil for yes it landed in for a people groaning in the crowd but there was a lot of Top Spin on that which affects the trajectory go up there was really did get up the back of it and allowed it to just drop right in the [Applause] corner oh it’s too much weight of shot from hard Trion I mean both of them going really close to the line during that point a little bit of a distant Rumble of Thunder it was wasn’t it well there was a thunderstorm this morning and there’s another one there a possibility

Of more this afternoon so you never know f back within two points of the [Applause] title Bish fion the woman of the tennis year so far match points for her second Rand gas title She’s Not Just dominated the tour she’s now dominating the Majors not the greatest final but you have to say a totally worthy and appropriate winner lucal it certainly was just an hour and 8 [Applause] minutes we know where she’s off to speak to her team I mean it’s been incredible her run and I mean I

Guess we can almost take it for granted expect that she’s going to keep coming up with the goods I mean you’ve got to feel for Coco Go I mean in tears there was very nervous at the start I mean it was great to see the second set where

She did relax and manag to play some good tennis but it was a little too late and it wasn’t quite good enough I mean just phenomenal the winning streak continues 35 in a row I mean it’s not easy you you got a Target on your back I mean I

Think there was some tricky moments during the Championships which she was able to get through but again she’s been able to come through yet another final pretty convincingly terms of the scoreboard we’ve seen golf in tear before it happened at the US Open when she barely registered against Naomi Osaka and Osaka

Actually persuaded her to do an on court interview afterwards and I think gol did a lot of growing then and I think just the fact that she’s got these few minutes to get the emotion out of her out of her system I’m pretty sure that

That emotion will be I did not do myself Justice definitely and it’s it’s tough to prepare for something where you’ve never been before and she’s talked so well in all of the interviews about how she views things the perspective that she has because she’s had a tough time

There’s been so much expectation on her shoulders I mean I do think you know she’s turned a corner though Coco goof I think she’s improved out of sight and I just think the way that she does few things not just her tennis but but the world is is quite remarkable

For someone of her age golf has to dra this one up to experience there are plenty of people who they cannot win a slam until they’ve lost a final exactly I mean you it’s something you know that’s what experience is it helps you to learn and

Grow he still got a bit of a consolation in the doubles final tomorrow yes and we saw with Martina Hingis long touted as a great Prospect got slightly stuck won The Wimbledon doubles title and within 6 months was winning slams and singles so you never know GF may have to

Win a doubles major before she wins the singles major she’s already been a runner up US Open last year and they are closing the roof maybe because they’ve had warning from the meteorologists that there is rain on the way message to our team there run out of lens Marie saying runner

Up in her first Grand Slam final at just 18 years [Applause] [Applause] old IG [Applause] Chant this time she can be photographed of the trophy without wearing a mask when she won it 2 years ago the rules were very strict only when they were out on court could they be without the [Applause] [Applause] mask [Applause] as happens at Ral the two singles Champions get their national anthem played so this is the national anthem of Poland [Applause]
