On “Hot Take Central” on 590 The Fan KFNS, the fellas discussed all things MLB winter meetings including John Mozeliak’s comments about trading Tyler O’Neill.
Its sickening listen to these guys slobbering over a guy whos injury prone, how many times does a guy get to burn you before you realize as Vince McMahon says " You're a damn fool "
They need to acquire Dylan Cease! Dylan will be their number one starter and this will put them in contention for the World Series. If Mo does not make this trade happen, he is nothing more than a moron.
Trade Tyler O'Neill, Dylan Carlson and whoever else is necessary to make this happen. They will not hurt their core. They are getting him for cheap!
Mo just keeps making mistakes. The biggest mistake he has made recently is signing Contreras and not trading for Sean Murphy. It doesn't actually matter since I can't watch them anyway.
Somebody's getting hurt in spring training so Edman & Donovan are extremely important. Noot, Tommy, Gorman, Donovan, even Walker can play multiple positions. Not a bad setup knowing historically someone pulls or breaks something early in the season.
I like putting the kids at the top and giving them the opportunity, as well as showing faith in them. I’m always full of Hopium for Broneil. Thinking Boras has him locked down with yoga/pilates etc. trainers. It’s Tyler’s chance to make the big $$$$$$ “If Lance Lynn’s pitching, they’re going over the wall anyway.” Dayummmmmmmm 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Cardinals need better timely and situational hitting. Haven’t had either since 2013. No one hits to right to get the runner over to third. Need hitters that ca drive in runs. Dylan Carlson cannot drive in runs. O’Neill can’t. Tommy Edman can’t. Nootbar is a little better but not much.
The fact that we are pegging Tommy Edman in as our everyday Center-Fielder is just wild to me. The guy who was slated as our everyday 3B in 2020, who then became our everyday 2B in 2021, who then became our everyday SS in 2022, was our everyday CF in 2023, and might still be in 2024. And we still haven't signed him long term!? While his offense is not spectacular, this guy is literally saving our defense, amd keeping us from having to possibly make yet another move. But, this also just creates another cog in the machine we call our Outfield. I.E. trying to fit ANOTHER piece in that puzzle.
I still feel like we need to move on from one of our utility guys. Do I want to? Hell no! Could it be a mistake? Definitely. But no matter how I rationalize this, I don't see us keeping both Edman and Donovan, unless we move on from two of O'Neil, Burleson, Carlson, and another of our OF prospects (like Richie Palacios). Donovan plays well in LF, and I would be fine with him being our everyday LF, but he's great at 2B as well. However, he cannot take playing time away from Gorman anymore. Gorman needs, I repeat, NEEDS to play everyday! Whether or not you're a fan of him, whether you think he should be untradeable or traded all together, if he doesn't get playing time, he will not be able to grow. And if we want long term value, or trade value out of Gorman, he NEEDS to be an everyday fielder (1B, 2B, or 3B, I don't care). We cannot keep benching him against lefties. He's a major leaguer now: it's time to figure out if he can hit lefties or not. No more platooning him. But, that means that we need room for Donovan. So, unless we move on from two OF guys, I don't see Donovan playing in our lineups as more than a DH (until injuries inevitably happen).
To sum up my ramblings, I find it hilarious and somewhat worrying that our everyday CF is now being pinned on one of our utility guys. Also, we need to clear up the OF logjam, as it's blocking plate appearances AND defensive growth for our guys who need to take some priority now. We all want to see Winn and Walker grow and improve, but how about we give some genuine opportunities to the guys who came up first (in Gorman and Donovan)?
I am NOT willing to trade our AAA pitching prospects! I think Mo should no longer be allowed to trade ANY of our pitching prospects; they will just become Cy Young winners for another teams, and I'm being absolutely sick of seeing this!!! If that's what it takes to get Cease, than I'd pivot to someone like Bieber as the top priority. The Guardians need Outfielders, we need pitching. Mo is forbidden to touch our farm system's pitching prospects!!!
"Jimmy The Fox News Hays"…….My wife just had to ask me why I was laughing uncontrollably! 🤣👍 I would love to see Cat have ONeal on the next "Cat's Corner" and ask him some of the same questions he asked Lynn. Now that Mo has said they are shopping him he might actually let loose and give his side on what actually happened between him and Marmol? Charlie, this show had me laughing throughout! Keep em coming my friend! ✌😉
Here a Idea package Tyler O'Neil in a deal with Alex Burleson and Maybe a Brendan Donovan and possibly a minor league pitcher I would approach the Cleveland for Close
Rather strangely, Dylan Carlson is rated as an average defender in the corner OF positions by DRS and as a below average defender in corner OF by OAA, but both metrics rate him as well above average in CF, so maybe he should play CF more? By the eye test of what I can remember he's been pretty good out there. It's somewhat uncommon to see those stats actually agree, for instance Nootbaar is rated as very good in RF by DRS but mediocre at best by OAA at the same position.
No matter what team O'Neil is playing on in 2024, Boras will whisper in O'Neil's ear and have him ready for a good 2024 season. O' Neil knows 2024 is his walk year and probably have the best year of his career to go into free agency !
Regarding Tyler O’Neil, “if he’s healthy, he’s really good”. To quote the late Don Meredith, “were ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ only candy and nuts, what a Merry Christmas we would all have”.
A little outside of the conversation but if the Ohtani contract is 400+ million, I think it will be the worst contract for a team in the history of all sports contracts.
Can you imagine when Ohtani is in his upper 30’s making 40-50 million per year. Ouch!
I suppose there may be an organization out there, that thinks they have a superior medical staff than the Cardinals, and can keep Tyler O'Neill on the field. Just got to figure out who the suckers are.

Great content as always!! Tyler O'Neal probably won't get u a huge return unless he's packaged in a deal!

TO has next to zero value. He isn't going anywhere unless packaged with 2 to 3 players.
My perfect world;
Winn
Walker
O’Neil
Gorman
Goldy
Arenado
Contreras
Donovan
Nootbaar

Patience. Relax. Enjoy the holidays.
I'm at the part where Jim goes "I know math is hard when you are text-line tough, Wombat" and I'm dying of laughter lol

“Some or one of those players”. Big deal is in the works hopefully. Mr. Cease, wanna go to baseball heaven?
34:45 LOL
Need bullpen Help! Let's start by bringing Ol Friend John Brebbia back 🤓😌!

Clearly the outfield should be Noot/Edman/Carlson with Walker as DH…and Palacios as the 4th OF, with Burlyman being traded
Just like MO to ignore the lineup that was just awful at driving in runners in scoring position. It never changes.

🔥🔥🔥
Lol,you guys are as crazy as me. 😂
Love this stuff! You guys need to acknowledge that Arkansas is Cardinal Country.
