Viktor Hovland has slammed PGA TOUR boss and made a number of comments in relation to the situation between the PGA tour and LIV golf tour. I have total respect for Viktor for being honest and giving his opinion on this, Viktor Hovland is a huge PGA tour star and one that a lot of golf fans have a lot of respect for. This interview shows how open and honest he is, but he does make some big claims so I can’t wait to hear what your thoughts are on it!

Do we think HOVLAND is talking sense?
Where is the interview?
When Phil left the PGA going to LIV, he all but said the players were little more than a commodity. The players had no rights to any of their tour victory films or any copyright to any of their unforgettable shots and Phil had plenty! The PGA should be a player owned tour and the people running it should be HIRED management!
What a shambles the PGA would be if it was run by the players, what a shambles the PGA is now run by the current PGA committee! The problem is not with LIV, the problem is with the PGA committee. The players know it and LIV Golf knows it. The PGA gravy train of Jay Monaghan and his committee has come to a screeching halt.
You can not have a cut with team format.. It is mute point. You would have to get rid of the Team format.
There will be an uprising for sure. Much unrest and feeling disrespected. Unionize boys
I am getting tired of LIV vs PGA drama, drama, drama. Seems to be the only content your channel has to offer, and I am sick of hearing about it.
Sorry unsubscribing.
Everyone is talking about what the PGA did wrong, or didn’t do wrong, but plain and simple. The Saudis are buying the sport because they have more money than God. Who knows what their endgame is and hopefully we don’t find out in a bad way. no, you can’t fault the players for chasing the money, But let’s just hope they don’t end up regretting it in the long run
The PGA tour does not pay their players with terrorists blood money. Just saying
I sure hope Viktor doesn't go to LIV because I just don't enjoy watching it. it isn't as good a coverage as the PGA and it feels more like real golf. LIV doesn't feel like real golf to me.
48 players doesn't justify a cut, so there would need to be more. Also, would just individuals be cut or entire teams?
Do you speak or understand Norwegian? The podcast you are referring to was in Norwegian and I have listened to it all (1 1/2 hours).
Stop making it sound like he has any plans to go to LIV by
a couple of sentances said and exaggerated ten times by you and other people.
The podcast lasted 1 1/2 hours and they talked about his season and golf in general. They spoke only 5 min about LIV because he was asked some questions. He also started by saying he doesnt complain about the position he is in and that he is grateful for everything, but at the same time he is critical of how the management makes decisions that are not best for the players, but best for themselves, and they are businessmen and not professional golfers.
As an example they decide several new rules on how the game will take place (eg "golf-ball rollback" to limit length golfers hit the golf ball). There are so few players who is gaining from being able to hit long. The stats show that players who hit long isnt necessarily on top in strokes gained. It will take away some of the entertainment value where some hit precisely, others hit out of bounds and others again have a fantastic close game Hovland thinks focusing on how golf courses are designed is more important (in some tournaments the score is -27 and that has more to do with easy courses without obstacles such as more trees, narrower fairways, different sizes and slope on the greens, etc.) than how far you hit the golf ball itself. To create challenges that way instead of changing the golf ball.
He feels there is a great arrogance behind the PGA-leaders and quite provocative that a group that does not play professional golf should manage everything and that they wont listen to the players. Therefore there must be changes that have to happen. He further says that he does not know what is right or wrong about everything that happens behind the scenes, but that it must be allowed to say that the PGA Tour has done a bad job without being linked to LIV. Things have to happen as you cannot have a split. It only destroys the sport of golf. He hopes it will return to some normality in the future so that golf fans do not lose out on this division.
The reason he said the PGA tour has done a lousy job, isn't because of the money. It has to do with several things. As an example, awarding the winner 500 Fedex cup points for winning a small tournament like Bermuda and the same for winning a bigger tournament like Memorial is unfair. The quality of players in those two tournaments are very different and its "easier" to win the smaller tournaments, that's just a fact. He has always been critical on certain things and open about it being too many tournaments and the difference between the worse tournaments and the better tournaments is too great. He also has said he wants to decide himself how many tournaments and which tournaments to play and he dislikes being forced or told to do things. Thats why he was even ready to give up $10 million or so for the player impact program last year I think.
There is no secret Hovland has always said he wants to play where the best golfers play. He said "You need the matching with 150 players and a cut. If you don't play well enough, you're out. There's something about it that makes your game a little sharper. If I had gone to LIV, I don't think I would have become a better golfer. And then it is, in a way, the end of that discussion. But I can't blame people who make that decision and go over there. Then we instead have to try to find a solution in the end, otherwise I fear that the situation will go beyond the interest of ordinary people.
– It is important that the fans do not lose out on all this here. We need to find a product that people want to watch.
.
The last question in the 5 minutes they talked about LIV was "We won't see you in LIV soon?" He answered quickly "No", so he is definitely not going to LIV. He doesn't care about the money. He even still lives with his mates from college. He lives in Oklahoma because of the community and down to earth and nice people cause he isnt about the lifestyle of the rich and famous. He hardly spend money at all. He doesn't care about the money, and that's not just something he says.
PGA are using the plantation's platform Player's are property Contract's are the commodity & PGA are the owner's
I don’t know what Vik is going to do but he is pissed.
It is crazy Jack and Arnie and the boys left the pga of America because they felt they were not being run by tournament professionals. But the pga tour ended up getting run by a bunch of amateurs, with probably less player control than during the pga of America days when they were at least being run by golf professionals.
If viktor needs cuts and full fields he will have to play outside the PGA Tour, because that’s exactly where they are going.
The fact is if you have a world tour with all or most of the top players, even with half the players and no cut and one less round, that is still
much harder to win. Add to that the chance to win 5$ million dollars at each event (with a team win as well) and that’s a lot of pressure considering how I feel playing for $5 bucks.
Viktors biggest issue is the majors. That’s the leverage Hovland should be using with LIv over downplaying the format. He is highly ranked but doesn’t have major security for long. Imo so long as LIv is not getting owgr points (which imo is completely unfair) LIv needs to be extra generous with top guys who don’t have that major security. That’s the only way to chip away further.
I do hope For an agreement but I don’t want to see a cluster F of compromises. Golf needs LIv to continue getting top players and continue doing what they do, maybe adding innovation, but not going back to arbitrary things like 72 holes or cuts or full fields.
Surfing has a full field tour, which is super prestigious with hundreds of athletes competing countless events around the world. But the actual world championship
Tour with all the top guys has 10’events and only like 30’some guys and the field now gets cut in half after just 5 events (which I’m not a big fan of).
They call it “the dream tour”. It’s hard getting there, and even harder to stay, but if you can be there it’s where every surfer wants to be. The women surfers have even less competitors but they share the stage with the men competing for equal purses.
That model is where golf is going with LIv and I think that would be great.
At this point, I don't think the PGA has the best golfers in the world anymore, which in my opinion is why Rory has started winning events again. I look forward to when all the players leave the PGA so I can see my favorite players again and the Sports TV networks that start showing LIV golf tournaments.
Honestly think Liv is killing golf. The PGA has spent considerable effort to get star players from only playing the minimum events. Events where there sponsored or the majors. The FedEx cup helped that along with the fall events. With major stars leaving some events are going to suffer drastically in attracting an audience or sponsors. Stars who have left Liv. leave some sponsors money behind. My fear without stars there will b3no sponsors. No stars limited attendance limited money for charities and businesses that rely on events. Anyone who thinks Liv will not hurt golf in America is mistaken. These golfers are basically paid contractors who will go where the money is.
The owner of the pga looks like dr fauci
So for how long has the pga paid appearance fees. I mean come on this is a stupid pissing match that is ruining golf
Let's be real here, ALL pro golfers absolutely are 100% employees. Players running the tour and the tour falls apart in a few years. There is a ton of work that goes into procuring prize money, choosing venues, and all the other work that goes on behind the scenes; it's not just playing golf.
I for one am getting pretty sick and tired of the PGA Tour players continuing to say how poor the tour management is. They have done nothing but criticise since this whole debacle started. I have not heard one explanation of why they have been so poor. It is too easy just to say something is wrong or poor, explain why it is so wrong or so poor. Just saying there is a problem is not going to get anything fixed, you need to know what the problem is. Can anyone give just one example of where a player has described a particular problem in detail and then given the slightest hint of a suggestion as to what and how they would manage the situation any differently. And please do not suggest that the players’ claim that they are not being kept informed and if they were is going to fix one problem. Maybe there would be a benefit in not keeping them informed, it seems that every time the management of policy board send them an email it gets leaked. And just as an aside Viktor, you have won more prize money in 2023 than any other player on any tour, including LIV.
Some of the so said main guys of the PGA Tour seem to forget where they have made a name for themselves, golf for the most part is an individual sport. The reason why the Ryder Cup is a success is because they are not playing for money. Four man teams throughout a season is an idea that will never catch on among the masses, while there’s no doubt golfers should probably make more money they already make a lot when they are good, rewarding substandard golf with huge payouts brings the game down, paying out LIV purses is not sustainable or the PGA would have done it so end game is all the “current” top players go to LIV, LIV wins and then brings the purses down as the PIF is not there to lose money in the long term and we are back to where we are today, with a lesser product, less golf and the current crop of “current” top golfers are no where to be seen
If they loose 2 to 3 more high caliber players like victor or Speith or Scotty it’s over for the PGA – I’ve watch LIV, not all that impressed.
Jay Monahan is an absolute disaster… he should have been gone a year ago
This guy would love it if another mercenary left to join LIV.
Major suck-up.
Jay Monahan should resign before it's too late, if he remains, more and more players will leave. Bring in someone the players respect and lets look to a brighter future, if he stays the PGA couldn't lose the most talented player young player in Hovland. Losing Hideki, Finau and Cantley to LIV wouldn't be a bigger loss than Hovland.
It is the PGA Tour that is crashing and burning…hence, it is their debacle!
We all know it has always been about money no matter what any of these hypocrites say !! So being bought gives you more freedom Viktor ????
We never heard what Hoveland said what we heard was your interpretation which is meaningless !!!
LIV players not sharp! Please Victor, Brooks PGA champion, plus 5 of 6 DP World tour winners for pre Xmas season are LIV players. I'd say that's very sharp.
LIV will go down if it doesn’t change its format.
The clue should really be in the name. The Professional Golfers ASSOCIATION
The PGA should have changed to a team business model long ago. Pay any player with a tour card like a member of a team. If they sign up and show up for an event give them per diem for travel expenses, don't charge entry fees, pay them $10k just for attending, and pay some bonus base on how they finish if they make the cut. The better players will still make millions from endorsements but it gives lesser players or new tour players a way to make a living while learning their craft. Take the anxiety and pressure of making a living off the players and let them play comfortably to the best of their ability.
People who criticize LIV's format don't realize that it can change. It can also expand. The format is not chisled in stone. The LIV is not limited to a certain number of teams. They could even have team qualification events for weekend slots.
It's easy to lead an organisation with a monopoly and the only game in town because you have no competition and nothing to be compared to. You basically get to do what you want.
Now look at how incompetent the PGA leadership looks since LIV has emerged. They litterally are clueless and were completly unprepared for what they faced.
Thank god for ff.
LOL he's really delusional if he believes the PGA can't replace every single player on the tour and market them just like they are doing for him! Supply and demand, for every player on the tour, there are 10 more below him waiting to take their place and the next man up is always going to be the next big star (for marketing purposes)!! BIG BILLIONS talk and those players are just that………entertainment labor, so they might as well take the best deal they can get, wherever they can get it!
LIV golf is crap. I will not watch golf if all there is to watch is LIV type golf. Team golf is garbage. The Ryder cup is mildly interesting b/c of nationalism. Once every 2 years is plenty. The players are leaving for LIV for only one reason – MONEY – period. I agree that with you that the players should run the tour. I agree that, like Rahm, Hovland may only be trying to raise his price to go LIV. I also agree with Hovland that Monihan et al are putting their own interests ahead of those of the players. I can enjoy playing golf without watching on TV. Giving in to LIV and the Saudis is going to kill professional golf in the end. The players who got the big money are out for themselves and are fixed for life. But the game will suffer. When things turn around, they ones who left should not be allowed back. There will be plenty of great golfers coming up to replace them.
Poor Victor. He’s on his way to Liv. They all start this way.
How dumb are the PGA Tour radio guys are Well Jay made a deal with the Baseball guys and Now he wants to Negotiate with the PIF. So Jay Says it's a Three Way Deal SORRY NOT
Jay made a deal supposedly 50/50 with the PIF he goes out on His Grift and brings in a third party. Well Guess what Jay you made a deal with the baseball guys so your 50 % is now 25% because you CAN NOT renegotiate the PIF'S Part of the Deal you only had CONTROL OF YOUR SHARE. what an ARROGANT ASS !!!!!
Viktor should play the LIV Tour …. .Strike the IRON while it's still HOT !!! LIV could offer him easily a 50-100M deal …..
Do you really understand the PGA ? It’s the PLAYERS GOLF ASSOCIATION. !!! They OWN the TOUR……it’s their tour and they employ the likes of Moynihan !!!! Like the PFA when they took it back that’s what the tour should do !
