There is nothing wrong with the first way of taking the club back, its called single plane swing what Ben Hogan did. It works great for myself because I am not as flexible in shoulders and I have broad shoulders.
100% this is a great drill. It will help massively if you have issues with a left club path. David Ledbetter teaches this take away. The extension is, take away, set the club lag then rotate the torso. 💯
Hey man, so I'm about 260 lbs. Very thick in the chest, mid section and arms. I've always found that in order for me to keep my arms connected to my chest and my hands close to me it seriously limits my range of motion. It does very well for me in chip shots, as I don't need a dynamic or powerful swing. I also play with a neutral to weak grip and so when I am swinging my irons. Anything from 8 iron and up, I have to allow my arms to separate from my body in order to lengthen my swing and pick up speed. Ive been told that I need to watch john rahm, we are similarly built and he is able to generate great power with a short compact swing. Anyway, when I take the club back I roll the club face open (this isn't a problem for me, the closing of the club face just prior to impact is a power generator for me and I have above average hand speedn with powerful wrist and above average timing/hand eye coordination(I grew up the son of a professional boxer) the main problem is the inconsistentcy that comes from disconecting.my arms and body. Do you have any recommendations. I really appreciate any help thank you
This is why golf instruction is ao complicated…..so many moves that are not fully explained. When I started playing golf in late 1970's I modeled Jack Nicklaus with a flying elbow then later swung like Couples and would lift the club and turn my hips toward the target. I could Boom the ball back then with the ability of driving some short part fours with my Perssimon head or smqll steel headed driver. It felt natural then.
I started reading instructions and have over 100 golf instruction books. This instruction would have changed Couples, Furyk, Trevino and many other half if fame golfers.
Plus it was not finished…..he said take the club back to that 1position "then swing through"……but after that position is forearm turn and a set…..then after that what are the thoughts for the downswing? There is a lot of golf swing after that position.
I have found to improve a good player who has good mobility and athleticism, these positions are helpful, but to a player who is just recreational swinging comfortably and with rythm is more important than positions….IMO
Be AWARE…I started doing this drill 2 yrs. ago and now I can't do my backswing without pausing as shown in the vid…not a big deal, I hit the ball great, but I get a lot of comments on the links about the "pause" in my backswing! But this is a GREAT drill for a proper takeaway and seems to get and keep your swing on plane on the downswing…
Striking the ball pure, I use this video every other month when I feel my take away is too far out and then I under compensate by taking it inside to quickly. This gets me back in check
Ya make sure your club face is closed so you have to flip your wrists to get the club in the right position at the top of your swing 😂 just like Rickie Fowler. Obviously anyone watching this clip is capable of swinging like Rickie so just follow these bass ackward tips and join the PGA Tour 😂

Omg that’s sooo smooth dude thank you
My backswing is horrid .once you keep it in front then it rolls back ?
Why does it look like you’re swinging out of your shoes lol
Good tip, I wrap the club so will definitely try this!
Great tip! It actually helped me to develop better swing. 👍
This was ripped off from Danny Maude. You should watch his videos for good tips
Your not doing anybody any service.

Or in layman’s terms start you backswing with your left arm across your chest Gary player explains this sequence in one of his clinics
nice drill
This guy is still underplane 😂

This isn’t a drill lol
The second option was actually good because you are under plane all the time
You thinned this shot
how does jon rahm take it back?
nah this just looks good but isnt necessary
Ben Hogan didn't.
Taking the club back slow and low has helped me with the long irons. That reminds me of this drill.
Very good advice!!!
This helped me a lot! Thx
Why?
This is what I’m working on now and then turning left at impact

This isn’t a drill tho 😢
🔥🔥🔥
What’s the benefit of this?
Looks like your club is behind you? Maybe a different angle please?…

John rahm has entered the chat.
Yall worrying avout the wrong shit … You don't hit the ball on the backswing lmao

@golfslump, should i try to take the club in front of my right pocket?
Nice one
Two words: Raymond Floyd.
Lol. The first takeaway was the best. 😂
What ive learnt about these tips is that i always circle back to these tips later in my golf journey and realize that the tip was right all along.
Lol i noticed no shot tracers on that terrible swing

Simply keep your elbows pointing down. Avoid these drills
