A decision on whether the golf ball will be rolled back is coming and the decision is pretty clear, but why is the golf ball roll back happening, what will this mean for professional golfers and how soon will the golf ball roll back come into play

NEW INFO on Golf Ball Rollback as R&A chief REVEALS imminent decision… There is HUGE new evidence that all golfers need to consider about the ground breaking golf ball roll back!!

Ben hogan is one of the greatest golfers of all time and no one is relating him to the golf ball roll back! The golf roll back is for elite golfers and tour golfers who could be playing on the liv golf tour, DP world tour, pga tour players…

  1. I don't understand what they hoping to achieve? Whether it's the ball or the clubs, they will create a dived between normal players and "elite" (whatever that means?), this must affect development! The manufacturers aren't going to spend millions developing equipment for their 20 or so elite players, when the "normal people won't buy it. Look at disc golf, they expect to get Birdies. They didn't complain when Paul Mcbeth shot a perfect 18 under par round, the celebrated a great talent.

  2. Over the last 40 years, greens have become too slow and too soft, Course design has encouraged bomb and gouge by having receptive greens and lessened the advantage of hitting from tight turf. Lowering the spin rate on the ball will be the best change to make, albeit it will go further but require more skill to stop.

  3. The problem is the driver. Make it a maximum of 250cc for everyone and it is back to 25 years ago. If you then rolled back the ball by 15 percent, then you are at at least a 30 yard difference. It has to be the same for all of us, otherwise it will be destructive.

  4. I agree on you guys, this is something they shouldn't be touching, It will create caos in the game of golf, Some wont do it some would. And then we will have all the drama again.. I really hope the ball manufacturers dont go with this… That would be so funny, And what will this ball be like? Will it be like the old ones where you hit them a few times and like are formed like an eg… Or would they be hard as a rock.. I mean this for me is just because they want to put something out there… they want us to know whoes in charge

  5. If the longer shots is the problem, why limit equipment…? Easiest and simplest way to counter that is for the courses to add bunkers and traps place strategically on fairways. That way the players have to decide if they want to lay up short of the trap…or take the change to hit an absolute perfect shot to get over trap or risk loosing a shot or 2 in the trap…that way you make it fair for short and long hitters…easy as pie.

  6. Love all the crack lads, keep it up,thus roll back idea,is to protect courses, but it's not the big hitters that it will affect,it's the short hitters, the shortest tour pro,its making it alot harder for them, not rory or bryson, there big hitters for a reason, the shortest hitter cud still be using same driver/ball combo as rory,

  7. Totally agree with a rollback. Golf is a joke today – just slam a drive anywhere and then it's a pitch shot. Fairways need to be narrower and rough much much deeper to penalize errant shots. Right now most tour courses are pathetic. Greens are absurdly fast – so it encourages long-bomb drives to enable short irons/wedges. Nobody has to hit long irons anymore.

  8. Alec I think the strengthening of the lofts on irons as made the biggest difference to players games as well as the balls I have played for 50 yrs and have seen the difference to my own game

  9. Replace sand traps with fake rocks and put fake rock into the longer hitting areas. If you are willing to take the risk the so be it. That would make the game a lot more exciting and a lot more thinking.

  10. It's just stupid. We have great athletes coming into the game, putting in the work to get stronger, faster and also working on their game. So they want to punish them for doing the hard work

  11. The scoring argument is irrelevant, why does it matter -2 -20 ?
“It winds me up” that you keep repeating players will get fitter and get round it, that is PRECISELY why it needs a knock back.
Being excited by driving every par 4 ?? Come on grow up. if for you excitement in golf is purely how far someone hits a ball you're watching the wrong format of the game. The excitement should be the closeness of competition hence why the score is irrelevant to a degree. unchecked some of our oldest most cherished and historic venues & the challenge they present become irrelevant in years to come.
also why should the very very best in the world have access to essentially game improvement equipment, they dont need it ! if amateurs of any ability want to use pro gear they can.
golf isnt unique in equipment terms, cricket, tennis, squash, baseball, with at least three of those changing the ball to keep the game played as intended.

  12. I think, if the R&A would change the parameters for the Iron Byron to approve a ball, the designs of the dimple could be adjusted by the industry to fit for approval. The aerodynamic drag is increasing by the square of the speed. So for instance the Iron Byron at the R&A should be testing at 130mph and not getting further than 280m to make a ball acceptable. So any player with a slower speed would have less airodynamic drag and not even realise that he is using a roll back ball. People playing Badminton or who ever played a Pro V1 without its cover (peeled off the urethane cover) knows what I mean.

  13. I don’t think changing the performance of the golf ball by say 5% will make much of a difference 🤷‍♂️ these guys will adjust very quickly, it won’t be much different than playing at altitude and not playing at altitude. They can adjust to this from week to week never mind over a whole season 👍

  14. Perhaps an easier way would be to shorten the maximum length a wood shaft can be for a professional 🤷‍♂️

  15. Since the 5 Ball Flight LAWS determines ball speed (distance), the Rollback is not going to attain the R&N goals. The single greatest evolution of GOLF is AGRONOMY… Put a Tour player on the conditions of the everyday Golf Course… they wont hit it as far.

  16. Stop following the sun around the equator & have a proper world tour that plays different style courses in not-so-perfect conditions. The Scottish, Irish & the Open never have perfect conditions & test all levels of skill not just distance. Soften fairways, thicken & lengthen rough & more penal hazards would work. Bunkers should cost you strokes.

  17. Once upon a time, a pro golfer never lifted anything heavier than a stein of beer or a cocktail after a round and some were legendary for having more than a few. Now, the gym trailers at each tournament let the pros work out to improve their physical skills and stories of pros staying late and closing the clubhouse barroom are unheard of. Once, the best players were all sizes: short, tall, heavy, or light. Some were big men like Julius Boros or Craig Stadler but now most look like 6 foot plus well conditioned athletes who could play baseball or basketball professionally. Once, pros had a variety of swings; some were classic, like Hogan or Snead and some were homemade, like Chi Chi Rodriguez, Lee Trevino, and Gay Brewer. Now, there seems to be one way to swing and swing coaches for each pro school them so everyone looks, basically, alike. Once, pro golfers dealt with their attitude problems themselves whereas today, mind counselors like Dr. Bob Rotella deal with the state of the golfer's mind.

So, the golf pro himself has changed and evolved to be longer and more powerful along with technologically new equipment but the anal retentive old fossils at the R&A are concentrating on messing with the ball. So what if a few modern pros like Bryson hit it unheard of distances? Why just 5% on a rollback? Maybe they should legislate that all pros need to play with featherie balls, or maybe gutta percha since that would make the old courses as difficult as days gone by. Modern technology has changed golf as well as most everything else in creation but who wants to go back to something now obsolete like dial telephones or vacuum tube TVs? (Then again, maybe the R&A would like that, too.)

Golf is not broken so if it's not broken DON"T FIX IT. If the R&A goes through with this, I foresee many lawsuits from manufacturers and individuals, many high priced attorneys getting wealthier, and the game suffering.

  18. I played on the UCLA golf team in the 1990s. I have always been a short hitter, and back in 1995 I was hitting my drives 250 yards. The long hitters in the 1990s hit the ball 280 yards. The super freak long hitters — John Daly and Tiger Woods, hit the ball 300. Today I hit my drives 270 yards but the long hitters hit the ball 350-370. The point is the long hitters picked up much more distance than the short hitter. If we return to 1990s golf balls which spin more, the long hitters won't be able to "fly " the ball like they do today. If all golfers played 1990's balls today, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless they hit the ball over 300 yards… When you go to a tournament today, you can't see the ball land when they fly the ball 350 yards! It is ridiculous… much better for the ball to max out at 300 from a spectator perspective.

  19. Furthermore. Remember Tiger Woods hit the ball 300 yards in the 1990s… He hits it 350 yards today with one leg. The long hitters of today are not swinging faster than Tiger woods in the 1990s. You guys don't know what you are talking about… I am so tired of hearing this garbage that the players today are such amazing athletes… hilarious. How did Tiger hit his drives as far as Rory and Justin Thomas at Riviera last year on one leg if those two players are such amazing athletes? If Tiger was 25 years old and healthy he would easily be the longest player in the game and probably fly the ball 370 yards. Please please roll the ball back and bring back shot making

  20. At the US Open this year I was spotting drives on the tees and was able to track the ball… but many fans and spotters were not. It was hard to see the ball flying 350 yards! It is not better for spectator golf. Why should golf courses expand to keep up with the technology? Using up more real estate and water is not exactly a good direction for the game to be headed. The only benefit is golfers get more exercise walking when they play the Pro tees LOL.

  21. I dont think rolling the ball back is the right decision. Just leave it alone. I agree it is now an entertainment sport and golf is changing and evolved and so have the golfers. Penalizing golfers is not the answer. It will only hurt the industry.

  22. i wana see harder pro courses. Taller grass, British style bunkers in the US, and more tree. Make it as difficult as possible for these gods of golf.

  23. I dont think its totally about distance off the driver, its more about the spin the Tour Pros and Elite Amatuers create. Instead of those affected using as an example, PROV1/X make them play Velocity or any other Rocks from the other manufactuers.

  24. The issue is the long hitters will still have a decided advantage. The disadvantage for shorter hitting tour pros will be increased, especially on tour speed greens. Some would say the course length will correct this disadvantage….. then you are right back to square one. The change makes no sense. Length will still be king.

  25. It reminds of the stupid mistake they made around the no anchoring rule. They now anchor up the arm? They should have limited the length of the putter which would have stopped anchoring altogether.

  26. There are ways to address this issue. You can make courses harder without lengthening them: more water, more deep pot bunkers, turn current areas of rough into OB.
    OR
How about reduce the number of clubs the pros can carry eg down to 10 or even 9.

  27. I watched Martin Borgemeier hit a ball on a golf course. He hit is 3 iron 300 yards! Golfers would just practice long drive more to hit the ball the same distance, like Bryson Dechambeau did!

  28. Since there is ZERO talk of rolling back course distance…this will all but retire average hitters. Some players wouldnt even be able to reach long 4s on courses like Augusta😂
This will be a great way to actively drive players to LIV😂
