Pitching The Golf Ball Is Easy: This Is What You Need To Know.

If you struggle with pitch shots around the green and controlling distance it’s because you have a pitching technique that is either too complicated or your trying to use the same technique for all your short game shots.

In this golf video Coach Lockey explains the difference between two pitching techniques for ultimate distance control and shows you exactly how to use each technique depending on which one you choose.

Here’s what you are going to learn:

1. How to control your length of swing
2. Two golf swing techniques to fine tune your pitching distance control.
3. Understand the importance of finding a technique and the right equipment that works for your golf swing.

Hi I’m Matt Lockey, welcome to my Coach Lockey YouTube Channel. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, and to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf course vlogs, golf challenges, golf tips, golf lessons, golf club reviews and the odd golf club unboxing. So pretty much everything golf!

I want to help you play better golf by providing coaching videos on all topics about golf. How to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
As well as helping you produce the best long game you can have, I will help you lower your scores by chipping better, stopping duff and thin chips, pitching the ball closer and creating backspin like the tour pros. Finally, I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts too!

  1. Thanks coach – great inputs. I use %'s instead of clock and know distances for those. And it's more of a feel, so I sort of think it's the best of your 2 'worlds' here… I have 4 wedges (you'll love that 🙂) and work around 25%, 50% and 75% (of full swing) for my feel, but can 'easily' increase a % from 25 to eg. 40 if need be. I cover just about 40 meters to 120 meters with those. Anything below is likely chipping more than pitching (depending) above is getting into full swings…

  2. I don't like to get too complicated. I have a one half and a three quarter backswing on my wedges. (46, 50, 54, 58)

  3. I use a version of the first idea (relating to body parts) as a base to then work in feel. Having a clear idea of how far you hit it makes it easy to make the small adjustments

  4. I have a clock face table for every club up to 5 iron. If I’m 100yds away but have to hit a low punch under trees it gives me the confidence that I know how hard to hit it. This method is also great to get started on learning the feel for the shot

  5. Excellent comparison analysis Coach of the "clock method" and your method of hitting pitch shots! I prefer to use the "clock method!" of pitching because unlike yours, which requires a lot of practice, I don't have that luxury! So, I have to go to a more "generalized" method which would be the "clock method!" If I were younger and had more endurance, then I would probably use your method of "calibrating" each club for a specific distance! No matter what Coach, I will still give you a Well Done!!!

  6. Cheers for that will try to work on both aspects as I'm desperate to improve, great vids and lessons keep up the good work👍

  7. I like the second secret. LOL. Always great stuff Coach! All that Lockey Magic… who would’ve thought that “practice” was behind it all! LOL.

  8. I do the clockface thing and Iv found for the in between gaps that choking down an inch gets another 5m off to plug the gaps

  9. Matty 2 wedges 43 and 48 pitching wedges ! Anything above that is so hard to commit ! Whatever works for you ! Cheers janner

  10. I have been doing the clockface for a couple of years, but only with my 54º & 58º wedges. This winter (won't be out on the course till April now) I am doing some indoor training and will work on my PW & AW a little more with the clockface. I do have a rough 3/4 swing with my AW that I know will carry 90yds consistently, but that's about it for that club & nothing for my PW. Great tip as usual.
